I had the fish and chips. The portions were huge. My aunt had the haddock sandwich and onion rings. The onion rings were fantastic. I kept stealing them. The waitress could not have been nicer. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Belfast.

The best part about this place was the friendly staff and that it was on the waterfront. The beer selection was a joke. Apparently this is a NE chain and they take their marching orders from Corporate. What a shame.

The Weathervane is closed and has a for sale sign on it. Sorry folks! But there's lots of good choices to eat at in beautiful Belfast!

Nice view. Food is decent. What you would hope for in a small dockside place. Service is pleasant but don't come here if you have anyplace to be in a hurry.

I like the Weathervane, but I don't love the Weathervane. The Weathervane has been a Belfast waterfront landmark for as long as I can remember: a great outdoor dining spot overlooking the harbor. As long as you don't have super high expectations, the Weathervane is an excellent spot to grab some fried seafood, lobster, or a lobster roll. Beyond the staple seafood don't expect much more. I stopped by yesterday to get a lobster roll to go. I received excellent, fast service. The lobster roll cost just over sixteen dollars and was ready to go within ten minutes. Yesterdays's excellent service aside, I have also had less than stellar service many other times dining there. Be prepared to be served by surly, local women who could care less about the quality of your dining experience. A few summers ago my cousin ordered the lazy man's lobster. Much to her chagrin it contained hardly any meat and was lukewarm. It was pretty ridiculous for what it cost. I probably will be back out of sheer convenience, but if a better seafood joint opened up, I would have no problem switching allegiances.

I have been coming here for many years and it has always been a reliable stop for lobster and fried clams. This year we stopped for lunch and I had the clam chowder and mussels. The clam chowder was watery (not thick) and relatively lacking in solids ( potatoes and clams). The mussels were terrible! Over cooked and rubbery while the broth was nothing more than water with some garlic. Good thing there was no bread for dipping, I wouldn't have used it. Two stars because the lobster was good and relatively inexpensive and the fried clams have been good in past visits.

I have friends who take me along to Maine every once in a while, and the Weathervane is a necessary stop for us every time. The food is normal seafood restaurant fare, but the lobsters are a reliable and inexpensive choice. The service has varied on my visits from attentive to much less so, but get seated next to a window and enjoy the view of the harbor instead of watching your waiter go past your table for the tenth time. Nonetheless, the food and the price makes this a worthwhile stop.

Major disappointment. My wife and I were here 4 years ago. At that time she had "Lazy Lobster" and it was great. We drove up from Lake George today and decided to revisit the Weathervane for another delicious meal. But, that was not to be. The service was terrible and the lobster was tough as nails. We asked to speak to the manager who was not very sympathetic. However, after some discussion he did offer to replace the lobster. But by that time you are in no mood to sit and wait for another long period. Had the manager offered to make an adjustment in the meal, I would not have written this review. While some people are reluctant to complain if they have bad service and/or are served a bad meal, it has been our experience that restaurant management appreciates this information. Unfortunately, the Weathervane manager seemed provoked that anyone would dare question the quality of their food. No one is perfect all the time! Needless to say, we will not be returning to the Weathervane.

Given the reviews here, we were a little apprehensive about stopping for lunch, but I'm glad we did. First, the waterfront location is a great reason to spend some time here. Second, it's all about the fresh seafood. My husband began with a delicious and traditional cup of clam chowder, creamy and full of clams. He followed that with a lobster roll that not only tasted fresh and sweet but was well seasoned. I asked whether the haddock was fresh and was told it was. I ordered the broiled fish sandwich and it was so fresh I wondered how long ago it was swimming. We loved the place.

Weathervane has a great location in Belfast right on the water. Other than that, the food and service are ok.

Good lobster and location for the price. The burger was one of the best I've had, and I'm from the South. The meat was a very good cut of beef and tastes like a steak rather than a burger.

I've been eating here once every month or two for the last 15 years...and I can honestly say that the two things that have never failed are the chicken baskets and the lobster. They also serve an amazing alcoholic beverage called "The Big Brown Moose" which is awesome! Other food on the menu can be hit or miss, the lobstah stew seems to be less lobstah and more...well water. Price wise the place isn't terrible, it is right in line with about every other place to sit down and eat. Unlike some of the other places in town they have a pretty wide variety of items on the menu...just try at your own risk.

I've eaten here twice now and I haven't had as bad an experience as everyone else has. Granted, I'm not a huge seafood eater so I may be missing some of the subtleties of the niche. On my most recent visit (for another late lunch), I got a special of the day -- fried haddock nuggets. The breading on the nuggets was just thick enough and the size of the nuggets was more a strip than a chunk. I loved it.

This rates up there in the top ten BAD meals in my lifetime. The fried clams were uneatable, overcooked and old. I sent them back. With all the places to eat in Belfast there is no reason to go here
