The ambiance is nice. The service was fine. That's the good side. The bad side? The steaks were mediocre and overpriced. Ok, Bath can be a bit of a tourist trap. So why the 1 star? Because of the 6 people in our party, three didn't feel well after the meal and one got a full-blown, doctor-diagnosed case of food poisoning. Considering that we all flew in from all over the country and the only common place we ate at was Admirals, there's no question where the bad food came from. When one of party called a couple of days later, they couldn't have cared less. So unless you want overpriced food and a doctor's bill to boot, stay away.

An admirable bunch of people. We went for our 33rd anniversary only to walk in just as all of the lights in Bath went out. Except for the one steak order, all of the meals were first class. This was our third visit. Each time the meals were great except for the steak. When they get the steaks right, I'll up the stars to four.

The bread was good! Aside from that I ordered the 8oz New York sirloin and it was cooked wonderfully! The steak came with a bernaise sauce which was no longer emulsified and had fully separated. The garlic mash was gummy but palatable. My partner ordered the pork with the onion jam which was cooked well but the jam was far far too sweet and needed to be removed. Service was lass than to be desired we waited at the greeting podium for 5 minutes to be seated with only one other table in the place, once seated we waited another 10 min to place out order while the two wait staffers rolled silverware and cleaned up the other occupied table. Well - the bread was good.

STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!! We went here for dinner, one they told us there was a wait yet the dining room was completely empty. Apparently they didn't have enough wait staff on a Saturday night! We ordered steaks which were not good at all. When I order my steak I want it medium rare, the steak was old when cutting into it had a fowl smell to it. The sauces you can pick from were all gross, I asked to try all of them and they wanted to charge me 3.00 per sauce that wasn't even a TBS portion. The sides were all over cooked, the gnocchi wasn't homemade and in a bacon cream sauce. Seriously, it was too heavy. Save your money, the steaks are 20-30 a piece and I could get a better one at Apple-bee's, granted I've never had a steak from Apple- bee's I'm just saying. Go to J.R. Maxwell down the street for a real steak dinner!

First time going here, when I walked in it seem very romantic like atmosphere. The steak that I ordered was wonderful, but a bit to raw for me. The decor was very navy like and staff there were kind and professional.

Had an exceptional dinner here last week! It was a pleasure to eat in such a lovely and traditionally upscale setting. There are linen table cloths and napkins, cushioned seats, good (and not too loud) music, and perfect (darkish) lighting. It is a very nice change of pace for the mid coast area and obvious that everything about the environment was well thought out. The food was even better than the setting. First the bread which is fresh from Diane's Bakery was fantastic. It was sour dough with some kind of cheese baked into it and served piping hot. The chopped salad had some interesting ingredients and a wonderful house dressing. I had the filet which was perfectly cooked and delicious and the au poivre sauce which was great too. The baked potato and dessert were also good. All in all a fantastic meal in an elegant setting for a very reasonable price and well worth the 45 minute drive. I will definitely be back!!

In the past, I've loved coming to Admiral Steakhouse. It's been my family's go-to restaurant for birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasion. This review is not for those visits. This review is for my most recent visit, which was on New Year's Eve 2014. My husband and another couple went to dinner at Admiral for New Year's Eve 2013 and had a great experience with one exception - we ordered garlic smashed potatoes, and they ran out. We weren't too put off by this - it was late (we'd been seated around 9:00pm) and we hadn't made reservations. We had such a good time that we decided to make spending New Year's Eve at Admiral a tradition. My husband and our friends (the other couple) talked 2 other couples into joining us for dinner. I made a reservation for 8 at 8:00pm. I consciously chose an earlier seating than last year to ensure they would have the garlic smashed potatoes when we were there. Hubby and I arrived exactly at 8:00pm and the rest of our party was already seated. They said they'd been seated for about 10 minutes or so. They didn't even have waters yet. It took 20 minutes for our waitress to even stop and introduce herself. I ordered a French 75 from the bar and the bartender had no idea what I was talking about, looked it up, and said he didn't have the necessary ingredients (what bar doesn't have gin, champagne, lemon juice, and simple syrup/sugar?). Not the best start but the waitress was friendly and drinks and appetizers went well. About 40+ minutes after we'd finished with our appetizers, the waitress came back and told the table that they were out of garlic smashed (which 6 of us had ordered). I was stunned. Clearly they hadn't learned from their experience the year prior - they'd run out of garlic smashed EARLIER than they had the year before!! 20 minutes later our food came... well, food came for 7 of us. After everyone else had their plates, the waitress came up and told us that they'd run out of the duck, which our 8th companion had ordered. They offered to make her anything else she wanted, but at this point it was 9:30 and she just wanted to go home (she also has some serious dietary restrictions and can't eat beef/pork or refined sugars, which is what they offered her). YES, the manager comped her "meal" (a beer, a bowl of lobster bisque, and the plate of spinach she'd asked for when they told her they didn't have any duck). YES the manager gave all of us free desserts (that we hadn't planned on ordering, didn't really want, and weren't very good). He was beyond apologetic and did his best to make things right. It wasn't enough, though. I am HUGELY mortified that I raved about this place to my friends, who drove all the way down from Augusta for an experience on par with what I'd expect at McDonald's. Our night was ruined by poor kitchen management and amateur mistakes. We will absolutely not be returning to Admiral Steakhouse ever again.

We have eaten at this restaurant several times and always had a good, basic steak dinner. This time was disappointing. My petit filet tasted terrible. The waitress suggested the twice baked potato instead of our usual ordinary baked potato. It tasted like it was made days ahead of time and reheated. Not good. My husband's salad cam on a small plate that was overflowing to the point that it was impossible to eat without having the salad end up all over the table. He said his drink was good though. This was our Anniversay dinner so we were evn more disappointed than usual. There was only one other couple there so the kitchen wasn't busy. It will be a long time before we go back

We entered the Admiral Steakhouse full of excitement. The menu looked great, the decor was wonderful, warm and cozy with just the right touch of elegance. The noise level was just right not too loud like so many place around now. We were excited to get our meals and quite willing to pay top dollar for a great steak! Unfortunately what came to the table was anything but a great steak. My mother ordered the Aegis Burger, medium rare but what came to the table was a charred hockey puck. Not only was it over well done, it was burnt! We immediately sent it back and got a new burger. This one was still charred badly and again it was over cooked, well done but at least not a cinder this time. We sent it back again and it finally came back medium well but still charred on the outside. When I say charred I don't mean grill marks, I mean the outside of the burger was black! We also ordered three steaks, a 12 oz sirloin, a 6 oz filet, and the ribeye. The ribeye and the filet were at the correct temps but the sirloin, ordered medium rare, was well done. We sent that one back and it returned medium so we ate it anyway. The ribeye and the sirloin were tough and the ribeye was full or grizzle. They were also charred black and tasted like charcoal, bitter and burnt. Now although the main meal was horrible, the sides were very good. The creamed corn and creamed spinach were amazing. And our waitress was very personable. We tipped her well even thought we had already decided we would never go back. Quite frankly I've had better steak at chain restaurants at a much better price. We were all surprised to see the place still in business.

This is the worst steak house I've ever eaten at. Seriously! Had a delmonico. Well, tried anyways. Steak was OVERCOOKED, and all special requests ignored. Asked for the wonderfully described "blue cheese cream sauce" on the side so my wife could try it. It was a nasty glob of old stale cheese, and they put it on the steak. It oozed into all the crevices.... The proposed fix from their "so called chef" was to sear my OVERCOOKED steak on the grill to,burn the flavor off... Excuse me? They agreed to cook a new steak. But only after the chef belittles us to the server through the window, within earshot. Sorry pal- medium does not mean dried out and brown center. This time, it came out still mooing. I decided to just eat it- but it was rubbery, the marbles were all as chewy as rubber bands, and there was NO FLAVOR. I don't think their chef knows how to cook steaks. No seasoning, no sear, it honestly, looked like they pan fried it together it out fast. Now the sides. The bread was AWESOME! The "sautéed Brussel sprouts" were offered in a creamy butter sauce by the sever. They came out taking like frozen, steamed, and had no seasoning whatsoever. The creamy butter sauce? It was an ice cold scoop of butter. The Gnocchi Augratin- well, suffice to say dried out ghocchi, with a light dusting of microscopic ham bits and a few strands of,cheese, burned to a crisp under a broiler is not what I expected. Gross.... My wife also had the baked onion soup, which DID have good flavor. Pity it was ice friggin cold in the center! I did complain. The "manager" offers an excuse that the chef is new. I suspect the chef was a fry cook for a failed fast food joint somewhere, seriously. The managers way of making it up,to,us was a free slice of cake, called the Towering Chocolate Church cake. Towering it was not. It was also the thinnest slice I've ever seen. It WAS good cake... But much like the rest of the experience here- it left me wanting something better. Avoid this place like the plague!

Right off US 1 in downtown Bath. Decent location with adequate parking. The inside is classy and nautical (Wood panel, nautical pictures and good mood lighting) which gives it a nice atmosphere. I felt under dressed wearing a T-Shirt and shorts but there isn't a dress code here. Most of the guests were dressed in upscale casual, shirts and slacks, I didn't see any ties although one would not have been out of place. The menu features a reasonable selection of steaks and seafood (no Lobster that I saw) and the prices are about what you would pay at Outback or other contemporary chain Steakhouses, maybe a bit more. 12oz NY Strip was only $21 with a side. Maybe a bit much for Bath Me. but not too bad by my standards. Full, but small, bar and a good drink menu. Service was quick and friendly. The food itself was excellent. The Shrimp Cocktail was fresh and tasty. The NY Strip was done to my liking (Medium). They actually grill their steaks over a fire vice frying them as many places do, always a plus in my book. The Garlic mashed were tasty and I'm not a big potato fan. Shrimp Cocktail, 12oz NY Strip (with side) and Ice Tea came to $44 (including tip). Not too bad. All in all a place I'll come back to when I'm in Bath again. Let's hope this place makes it, it's nice to have a good steak place here.

This restaurant looks like nothing from the outside and is in a slightly dis-advantage location compared to Front Street. That said, it's an excellent choice once inside. Classic steak house decor and low lighting, with walls adorned with ships launched from Bath Iron Works down the street. This place is a bit pricey for Bath, but such a nice change of pace that I would go again. Martinis were well mixed and inventive. Fresh baked bread was so sublime we bought a loaf to go at $6. Wedge salad was ok, baked potato just right, and petit filet good but not great. I can't remember the vegetable. Good choice if you are a bit tired of seafood, though it is on the menu and probably good.

Four of us had dinner here last night (St. Patrick's Day.) Our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful, and confidently answered a few questions we had about the menu. We got wine and beers, and were very tempted by some of the house cocktails on the menu- next time we'll definitely try a couple. We had the cedar plank roasted salmon, mixed grill, prime rib, and a steak (can't remember which one specifically.) My salmon was lovely, tender, perfectly cooked, but the cheesy grits that came with it were a little underwhelming and pasty. Hubby loved his prime rib, and our friends seemed to really enjoy their meals- the sauce that came with the mixed grill, a sort of orange marmalade with horseradish, was a huge hit- my friend was eating it with a spoon when he ran out of meat! We all got desserts (creme brulee' and cheesecake) and they were very good, though not exceptional. We'd like to express our gratitude to the staff that evening. The combination of good food, a few drinks, great conversation, and the cozy, candlelit dining room made us lose track of time. Eventually, we realized we were the only customers left, and the kitchen guys were cleaning up while the remaining waitress tidied what she could without disturbing us. At no point did anyone hurry us along or in any way imply that we should wrap things up- although we certainly must have been inconveniencing them. They were so gracious. We'll absolutely be back again, and this time, we'll try not to linger quite so long!

Well priced steaks and they come with a side. Great bread, salads, and garlic mashed potatoes. My filet was so-so, it came out med rare and I had ordered med well, came back charred on the outside. Hubby had the sirloin which he said was one of the best he had ever had. We finished off our night with their giant slice of carrot cake...it was amazing and could have fed two more people.

Bread was good but the steak was nothing special. Was disappointed they didn't have lobster bisque nor surf and turf option with lobster tail. Isn't this Maine where lobsters are everywhere?

AMAZING food!! A wonderful atmosphere, great little twists on old favorites. Vegetarians beware, the menu is true to form. There were some delicious escargot stuffed mushrooms that are quite amazing!! I am a steak gal, and I enjoyed the steak quite a lot. THe service and the atmosphere also receive high marks. On balance, a wonderful place to eat for date night (if you haven't fallen for a vegetarian)!!!

I just ate one of the best delmonico's I've ever had! Turns out they wet age their own beef and my god soes that flavor come through. Bite for bite one of the best I've had. Great sides and a nice wine helped to make a perfect meal. Nice to see this fine establishment come to Bath and I will make it a regular stop when coming through this part of Maine. Staff very attentive and friendly and met the owner at the bar. A local guy you'll love and his passion for his business and the area truly come through. Best wishes for a successful run Admiral!

Excellent new steakhouse in Mid Coast. Warm and cozy vibe, with dark paneling and white linen tablecloths. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks before being seated; the bartender poured a great beer, but didn't really know her wines. As for food, this is a true steakhouse: other than a mushroom ravioli and a salmon dish, the rest of the menu is red meat. Luckily, the special tonight was grilled swordfish - delicious and healthy (sauce on side) - so my non-meat eating son had something tasty to eat. The sirloin (NY Strip) was 16 oz, and cooked to medium rare perfection. A crust on the outside, with a thin layer of marbling - wow! Absolutely delicious. We loved the Brussel sprouts, sauteed in more butter than humanly possible. It was absolutely heavenly, but not light on the calories. The "steakhouse rice" was not a good combination with the steak. It was mixed with beans, corn, and other veggies, and just didn't match properly; go with the mashed or baked potato. They also have great starters - raw winterpoint oysters (delicious and fresh) - and a crazy good wedge salad dripping with Roquefort dressing and bacon. Yum! Deserts were tasty, if uninspiring; the creme brûlée didn't have the torched top, but the raspberry parfait cheesecake was good enough to be demolished quickly. Polite and quick service, fair prices, and a great steak - excellent all around.

We have eaten here 4 or 5 times. I want it to be a great restaurant but it regularly disappoints on its supposed specialties, steaks. Yes, the warm crusty asiago bread is heavenly and we always order the delicious wedge salad (my husband likes the heavy-handed dressing and I scoop most of it to him). Unfortunately on most occasions our steaks have arrived far overcooked - I'm talking well-done when ordered rare or medium rare. Also the meat just doesn't taste that good, like one should expect from a "steakhouse". Last night we gave The Admiral another chance. My husband's teres major steak was - surprise! - overcooked and saved only by the horseradish sauce on the side. I opted for the yellowfin tuna, medium rare as recommended by the waitress, with a wasabi mayonnaise. It arrived well well done (needed a steak knife to cut it), and the sauce was flavorless and garnished with, yes, potato chips. I wanted to laugh and cry. Another table was complaining about their meal, so I wonder if it was just a bad chef night? Dessert was decent, an Irish Baileys creme cheesecake and a chocolate fudge cake - consistency of pudding and skimped on the ice cream but tasted ok. Once when we were here they served a bananas foster special that was so good that it should be on the regular menu. I hope they can fix the problems in the kitchen because this place has so much potential, but we won't be going back for a while.

We were there last night and had an overall nice experience. Although it's not much to look at from the outside, inside is a nice cherry-wood decor. We had some delicious cocktails (their orange mojita was very satisfying) and tried two entrees: I had salmon cakes, which was a special, and my fiance had the tenderloin Oscar, another special that featured crabmeat and a bearnaise sauce. My cakes were very good, cooked well and the sauce (tartar with some dill) was not overly salty. The garlic mashed potatoes were delicious as well. The tenderloin was cooked well but unfortunately the sauce had separated a little bit. Also, we suspect that the sauce and the rice pilaf that came with the tenderloin were out of a packet - the peas in the pilaf were definitely rehydrated. It makes me wonder if this place is not doing well and they are cutting some quality. That would be a shame!
