I walked into Panda Garden for the first time yesterday, and when I walked out, I had new friends! I'm born and raised in New York. I have also lived in New Jersey and Connecticut. When you live in these areas, you get used to having ethnic/cultural food, such as pizza, Chinese, etc. prepared a certain way. When you move to an area such as Downeast Maine, you miss the food, not because there aren't a plethora of these types of restaurants - we feel that such foods pale in comparison to the ones we grew up on. I've been hankering for curry chicken. I've gone to some restaurants near me (such as China Hill in Ellsworth, which is completely gross) only to leave bitterly disappointed. After reading the yelp reviews, I decided to drive out to Bangor to satisfy my craving. At Panda garden, it was just as delicious as any curry chicken dish I have ever eaten (even more delicious than many!) Furthermore, it was the perfect blend of heat and flavor. In many spicy dishes some are so hot that I can't enjoy the flavor. I have had to tell some restaurants to make it less hot. I did not have to tell them that at Panda Garden. It was perfect. Spicy AND flavorful. The egg drop soup was spot on, also. I've had some weird egg-drop soup in some restaurants around here where they put peas and corn and sometimes chicken, I think that is presumably to distract you from the fact that their broth has no taste or is too salty. Not at Panda garden. Egg Drop Soup at panda garden is exactly what it should be - broth and egg - and maybe a couple tiny pieces of corn - that's it! And the delicate balance between saltiness and thickness is perfection. PER FEC TION. Another great thing about the food at this restaurant is that there are many options for different diets. They can make anything gluten free, and they have a brown rice option for people who like to eat rice that has actual nutrients in it (sorry white rice, but you have no nutrients. You're delicious, but I like nutrients.) If it was just for the food alone, I would be back again. But in addition to the great food, Mike and Josephine are every gracious thing that people on Yelp are saying about them. I wanted to buy some Taiwanese pineapple cakes for my wife from a website in Taiwan. Along with Yong, my server, they spend time helping me navigate the site. Unfortunately, the company that sells them would not ship to the states, so they got out some brochures and they helped me to find different distributors of the pineapple cakes. If I can find the box, they will further assist me in tracking down the cakes we originally had. However, because they sincerely wanted to save me money on what could be an expensive proposition importing them from Taiwan, Mike and Josephine actually gave me a package of pineapple cakes they have in house (from a different distributor) for me and my wife to try out, and then would not accept money from me for them! Such a nice thing to do for a person they had known for all of 45 minutes. Proprietors Mike and Josephine and server Yong are friendly, fantastic people who totally made my day. This is the best Chinese food in Downeast, perhaps all of Maine, and I will never eat Chinese food anywhere else within a 100 mile radius of this place. This will be my Chinese restaurant for as long as I live in Downeast Maine. Thank you Panda garden for your friendship and hospitality!

We are travelling through Bangor and decided to stop here due to Yelp reviews I must say it was some of the best Chinese food I have eaten. Everything was perfect. The staff are some of the nicest people you could met and the service was first rate I would highly recommend this place for dining

Panda Garden is the best Chinese in Bangor, hands down. There is no competition. In fact, it may be the best Chinese in Maine and is on par with places I've eaten in Boston's Chinatown. The food is fresh and made in house. There is literally nothing bad on the menu - you could throw a dart, order whatever it hit and have your mind blown. It is family run, and the host, Josephine, is one of the most genuinely nice people in existence. They offer duck, a rarity in Maine Chinese, and some of the best General Tso's I've ever eaten. The split dish platters - listed on the Chef's Selections part of the menu - are absolutely enormous and provide more than enough food for two people to leave full and happy. I'm shocked this place doesn't have a line out the door every night of the week.

Always satisfying and tasty. Great staff and owners, so kind and helpful. The lunch buffet is a great deal both price wise and for the food. Absolutely the best Chinese food in the area.

We have two Chinese host daughters and we have eaten in dozens of Chinese restaurants in Maine and the girls say this is the best -so that settles it for me. The owners also take a personal interest in the number of Asian students who come to this restaurant and know many by name.

Great food, even better staff. Josephine is the friendliest person in Bangor, Maine. She treats you like family when you walk in the door. The food was fantastic and everything we ate tasted wonderful.

Best Chinese restaurant in central Maine . The husband and wife are always here . Vegetable dumplings are superb. Everything prepared with care and beautiful to look at. Reasonably priced . Parking right out front. Not wheelchair friendly .

I love Panda Garden. The best wonton soup and ginger chicken with string beans. if you are looking for the regular, over fried "classics" this is not the place for you. For a quick lunch out, the buffet cannot be beat!

Panda Garden has the best Chinese in the greater Bangor area, and the best I have had in Maine. Their food is always cooked fresh to order and they are happy to alter dishes to taste, which not all Chinese restaurants will do. I often order fried rice without onion, and they are happy to oblige. They have the best hot and sour soup I've tried, and their General Tso's chicken is delicious. My husband is a New Yorker and says their food is on par with places he has eaten in Chinatown restaurants. The lunch buffet is on the small side, but fresh and delicious with plenty of options, and the food cooked in small batches to ensure freshness, which can be lacking at buffets. Last but not least, the owners, Mike and Josephine are wonderfully pleasant people who always make customers feel welcome and leave full and happy.

***just an update*** The owner told me that they can do majority of their dishes gluten free. The person just has to tell the wait staff or the owners. They will do their best to accomplish it. I ordered house special fried rice and kung pao chicken gluten free. It has been two hrs now... still feeling fine!

Now I'm afraid that my review is going to be a little slighted here... and I don't mean it to be rude. But I was in Bangor and was having a craving for some Chinese food. I looked up places on Yelp, and sure enough... Panda Garden was the top spot to go to. So I headed out the door shortly after 12:30 to go get some food. By the time I got parked and into the restaurant it was shortly after 1. I was greeted promptly... and seated and had my drink order taken. The next question was if I was there for the buffet. I had said, "Sure" because that was what a lot of the Yelpers and talked about on their reviews. I was given a plate, and as I approached the buffet... it was... lacking. They had very few items, and not to mention very much of a variety. General Tsos... Chicken and Broccoli, Crab Won-Tons... vegetarian stuff.. and well... that was it. I scooped up what I could of the General, and some of the Chicken and Broccoli... and headed back to my seat. I had some of the Won-Ton soup that they had brought out to me... and well, it tasted like watered down chicken noodle. It left much to be desired. I nibbled on my food... and found it to be rather tasty... however, it wasn't that 'wow' Chinese food I guess I was imagining from what I was hearing from the reviews. I then noticed a chef coming out and checking the bins, and then directly approaching the customers and saying good afternoon to each other. He even knew some of the customers by name... He then went back into the kitchen and came back with a little bit more food for one or two of the pots on the buffet. It turned out, he was more or less cooking exactly what the other people wanted. I completely get it, I think thats really cool... but to someone coming in randomly... thats not really the best way to get the customer to go... 'wow'. I also understand that I came in with less than an hour before the lunch buffet closed. I don't know if that had something to do with it... Or maybe that the reviews that I read for the panda garden were more meant for the dinner time crowd where you could get more bang for your buck in a combination plate... *shrug*

The building is run down and musty. The food is sub-par and lacking taste or variety. We were completely ignored for the better part of 20 minutes until we flagged down a waitress for the check. Not impressed. Wouldn't recommend.

Take out today. Shrimp with lobster sauce was white with dry peas, uncooked mushrooms. YUCK! Pu Pu platter was tiny and greasy. Nice people at the register. My favorite! When having normal conversation they understand me, but when I ask why my food is late " no understand". I felt like Rodney Dangerfield, no respect and food is slop! If you're hungry, go downtown, better food EVERYWHERE including the gas stations. By the way, I don't recommend!

Enjoying another great meal at this wonderful restaurant. Compares with any Chinese food available back in NYC. Do yourself a giant favor & give this gem a try. They also have the hardest working, as well as most polite waiter we have come across in years. Just adding a note to our review, we have yet to try the lunch buffet, instead we have always ordered off their menu, giving us the ability to pick & choose items we were in the mood to eat. One item we can't seem to resist is the heavenly House Fried Rice. Enjoy!

By far one of the better Chinese restaurants in the area. It's a great place to bring a date. The staff is really nice and friendly. I recommend the general gaus.

Small lunch buffet compared to most places in the Midwest. Price was fair at about $7 per person. The best part is the service. They get 5 stars for that alone, but the food selection was only average.

This will likely change as I grow older and more cultured, but as of right now Panda Garden has the best Chinese food I've had, ever. I want to cry whenever I have the hot & sour soup, because I'm sure some of y'all feel me when I say I've had some uh... colorful... experiences with the soup at other places. It's absolutely perfect. Light, but full of flavor and just spicy enough without losing tastebuds. I haven't tried everything on the menu (since I'm only in Bangor a few times a year) but I feel secure in saying that everything you would think of ordering won't be bad. There's never a time when I felt I needed a minute to process the shame and oil that just slid down my throat. The General Tso chicken and garlic shrimp dish so far is my favorite. Drinks are solid, and like everything else is inexpensive. I haven't experienced the buffet yet, probably because I don't trust myself to not end up in a coma.

This is one of the best Chinese places anywhere, definitely the best in Bangor. I have been going there since I was a kid, and back then I had no idea how lucky I was. Today I realize that you can't get food this good anywhere else. Everything on the menu is cooked just right with just the right amount of delicious sauces. My favorite thing to go for is the lunch buffet. It's a great way to sample the quality and variety of food they offer, and it's really inexpensive. It's a small buffet, with 20 or so options, but everything on there is delicious, and trust me you will leave full. Happy China can keep buffet with 80 items that sit soaking in their own grease all day. I like seeing the items come out of the kitchen just before I put them on the plate. Panda Garden is also a great place to go for dinner. All of the dishes are good sized portions and the food is ready quickly. If you want a suggestion to get you started, try the dumplings, the general tso's, and the moo shu. They make them all better than anyone. Do yourself a favor and try this placeout.

Tucked away on Franklin street Panda Garden hosts Bangor's most authentic chinese cuisine. If you have grown weary of the massive feeding-troughs on the other side of town check out Panda Garden for their amazing shao mai \ The dishes use authentic ingredients; for example, the orange chicken features real orange peels. The hot and sour soup was one of the best soups I have had in the Bangor area. A rich, peppery & flavorful pork stock filled with mushrooms, tofu, and bits of pork. If you want a quiet, intimate dining experience with great food ignore those "all-you-can-eat buffets" and come here.

Very good food, and pretty nice atmosphere. I love the lunch buffet. It's small, but the food is much better and fresher than most buffets, and it's incredibly well priced (some of the stuff on the menu is a little pricey, though). The buffet was $7.45 after tax when I last went there, and it comes with a soup.

This is my fav chinese restaurant. Fresh food. Healthy fresh veggies, subtle flavorings and a secret sauce for the dumplings that cant be beat. Family who owns it are so nice. Prices are great. I highly recommend the Ginger Chicken Green Bean meal.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
