I used to bartend at this place back in the day when they first opened. Their steaks and bread are really good, they are very similar to an Outback. The owner used to work for Outback before he opened this place. This was the best place to get LIIT's, we would serve them in pint glasses and only charge $5. A cheep way to get drunk for the poor college kid. Tell Martin (the owner, I said hi)

Blegh-- inoffensive. The place doesn't seem to have changed much over the last ten or twelve years, though I guess it's a statement to its' staying power that it's lasted this long. I recall some minor issue with my burger that made it suck-- don't expect to be blown away. There are, sadly, probably better steak choices at corporate joints like Texas Roadhouse or Outback.

The food is here is pretty good, if standard steakhouse fare. The steaks are well-seasoned and the sides are tasty. Service is usually pretty good. It would have gotten a higher rating if a mouse hadn't run across the back of our booth the last time we were there. Needless to say, it kind of ruins the ambiance.

My husband likes going to Old West because he's a steak fanatic, but I've never been all that impressed. The decor is Old West themed with wanted posters, saddles, Western themed toys, guns, etc all over the walls. Some of the posters are quite amusing ("Why walk around half-dead all day when we can bury you for $22.00?"). Dover Doc, an elderly fellow dressed like a cowboy, is sometimes on the premises and walks from table to table talking to diners. While I think this could be cute and fun for kids, I actually find it kind of annoying when I'm trying to enjoy a meal with my husband and I suddenly have a stranger trying to make conversation with me while my mouth is full. The staff is friendly (although I think there is some sort of dress code rule that the women aren't allowed to wear jeans that don't cause muffin-top) and polite. The last few times we've been there, they seemed a little overworked and we waited quite a long time for drinks or the check. The food is nothing special, but I'm not a big steak eater. The bread with cinnamon butter is probably my favorite thing. The salads are okay but sometimes absolutely drenched in dressing. The cream of crab soup is decent. I usually order the seafood pasta, but I could make do with probably about half as much of the giant portion size. Tried a grilled chicken breast once and got a boring, unseasoned slab of chicken with some black grill marks on it. I do like the way they encrust their baked potatoes with big chunky sea salt. My husband is a steak eater and it's always his idea when we go to Old West. He always gets one sort of steak or the other, but ends up drenching it with steak sauce. Compare this to his other favorite place for steak, Goin' Nuts, where he wouldn't dare put any sauce on the prime rib, and I'm just not sure why he keeps asking to come back to Old West. It might be the live pianist that plays honky tonk piano tunes. I think this is probably the most enjoyable part of a meal at Old West.

The food is terribly boring at this place. They think that if they give huge portions it will make up for the lack of flavor. The Prime Rib is the only thing worth ordering off of the menu. It is aged and seasoned off site, which is why it is probably so good. I can't figure out why the bread is so good, but it sure is delicious. They are only open for dinner, except on Sundays where they open to cash in on the church going crowd. Business is real slow around there now that better run businesses have moved in to Salisbury. There is an old man that goes from table to table dressed in an old western getup to entertain the kids, and another gentleman that plays the piano which kinda adds to the ambiance. I know someone that worked there, and they mentioned to me that the kitchen isn't the cleanest and the staff doesn't seem to care that much about its cleanliness.

Prime rib and burgers are enjoyable. Baked sweet potatoes are always done just right! Crab cakes are decent. The bread and burger rolls are white, sweet and made up of mostly air. The salads are just lettuce, croutons and jack cheese literally drowning in dressing. Fun ambiance, with a live pianist during the weekend evenings. Service is usually good. Prices are okay. Old West is really nothing special overall, but I definitely like to go if all I want is a burger and sweet potato.

Another fantastic restaurant in SBY. Once a year I make a trip out from UT just to eat here and at La Tolteca just down the street. The trip is worth the time and money. The steaks are cooked to perfection. The sides are plentiful and well tasting and the atmosphere is quiant and rustic with fast, friendly service.

As new residents to the area, we have been trying out various local restaurants in an attempt to find some new favorites. When my husband suggested steak one night, we decided to give this place a try. Our first impression wasn't favorable, as we walked in and there was no hostess - having never been there, we were faced with the "umm what do we do" moment as you enter into an odd hallway type vestibule area. We opened the door to the dining room, and the hostess appeared- seeming rather annoyed that we were just not waiting patiently for her return in the vestibule. My mistake. She asked if we wanted bar or dining room- and I said we had never been there before so whichever she recommended would be fine. We were seated in the dining room -which was awkwardly quiet as there was absolutely no background music playing. My husband and I felt like we had to whisper to avoid our conversation being heard across the entire room. We ordered steaks and salads. The salad was a very sad pile of iceberg lettuce with barely any other vegetables. The steak was adequate- not the worst I've ever had, but not good either. For what we received, we were disappointed. Chain or not, we both felt like we would have been happier had we gone to Texas Roadhouse, and we would have spent less money.

We usually get the cheese fries and a sandwich or steak. It's all good! The atmosphere is fun and we've been there when a live piano player was there. Fun, upbeat place.

7/10/2015: This was my first time at this establishment. I came in for a drink at 9:45pm (closes at 10). The waitresses and bartender were very sweet and personable. However the manager (or owner), I believe his name is Martin, was a huge jerk. He clapped his hands at me and told me to hurry up with my drink. He was also very disrespectful to his staff. If I come back, it will be because of the great service and friendly staff. Martin needs to change his attitude and not be such an ass to his employees.

My wife and I went to the Old West Steakhouse tonight and was very disappointed with the meal and the service. We ordered a bowl of crab soup and it was served to us cold and we told them to send it back and heat it up. Took almost 10minutes to get the soup back. I had to call the waitress over for more tea the service was bad. My wife could not eat all of her soup so asked for a container to put it in to take home and the lid to the container was nasty when she gave it to us and we had to ask for a clean lid. The only thing that was enjoyable was the steak but other than that I would not recommend eating there to anyone.

Western Chicken Salad with the homemade Honey mustard is the favorite item o the menu. The Prime Rib is second favorite menu item. Once in a while I will get a Crab Cake which is very good.

I have mixed feelings writing this review. Mostly disappointed. This used to be a family treat to come to for the past few years. The steaks were really good (preferred them to Outback, on par with Texas Roadhouse) and the atmosphere was fun. The piano bar guy was just an absolute joy. With pricing and food being on par with Texas roadhouse, we opted to come here most often due to the service and atmosphere. Plus, we are local busniess owners and wanted to support a local business. Unfortunately the things that made this place stand out for us are no longer enough for us to support this place. Twice in a row over the last few months we have experinced sub par service and even more sub par food. this last time was just unacceptable: Our server, while very friendly, was difficult to track down when had an issue to address. we had an appetizer (cheese fries, which while tasty, were the highlight of the evening...not really a good statement) The problem really arose once our steaks arrived. I ordered the ribeye, medium rare with a baked potatoe My wife ordered the 8oz sirloin, medium with a baked potatoe. neither steak was cooked correctly. My wife's sirloin was a THICK 8oz cut that has a decent crust on the outside...but was RARE in the middle. the middle was a deep purple and cool to the touch. After finally waving the server down, we asked if it could be fixed. She was apologetic and eager to remedy the situation. She took the steak back on a small plate and left the mainplate with the baked potatoe. Ah yes, the potatoe. Actually both potatoes were terrible. Smallish in size, and nicely crusted with salt, I had high hopes. but something has changed in the kitchen here. these potatoes had been microwaved. They MAY have been properly baked previously, but they had microwaved before being served to us. You know a microw'd baked spud when you taste it. the skin was super hard and difficult to cut through. The flesh was a weird mushy texture. I once made the mistake of getting a baked potatoe from Wendy's....this was the same experience. My wife's steak returned a few minutes later...now it had a darker crust and was still VERY medium rare. My wife cut it and it was still a very deep red to almost purple....the server took it back after we showed her it wasn't correct. Now normally, this is when I expect to a manager come by and apologize. This is a steakhouse, not a family diner. Any other place, especially the big national chains (that texas place...the aussie steaks...even that "neighborhood grill" with the apple in its name) the manager would come and make sure that we were ok. Not here. The only thing that appeared was my wife's steak...again...only nearly black in color and now absolutely dried out. They had fired the same steak.. A THIRD TIME. My wife STILL tried to eat it, she was hungry and she didnt want to write this place off just yet. But it was no good at all. The server had been eager to deliver the refired meat and walk away, she really didnt pay attention to the food. When she finally came back to check on us, I asked for a box (my dog does not have the standards we do for beef) and explained how unsatisfied we were with the food. She looked concerned and apologized and informed us she was going to get the check if there wasn't anything else we wanted. Bear in mind my steak was ALSO improperly cooked. Ironically, mine was cooked medium. But my wife didnt want my big ole hunk of ribeye and had been hopeful that hers would be remedied. I expected the manager to appear now....nope. Just the check, and none of the food comp'd, discounted or otherwise. I paid the check reluctantly realizing this will be the last $$ my family or any of my customers spend here. There are too many other places to spend our hard earned money @ that will care enough to correct mistakes. I worked in the food industry...bussed and waited tables...I know how hard it can be. Mistakes are made all the time, it's how you address those mistakes that count. this place was either incapable or didn't care enough to correct them. A shame, as this place reminded my wife and I of resturants from when were kids. Take a pass on here if steak is what's for dinner...

On the recommendation of my Dad we went here for drinks & apps a few weeks ago for the first time. Sat at a booth in the bar area. Atmosphere was warm, service was prompt and drinks & food were good. Looking forward to going back regularly.
