Service is great, food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. I have never had a bad experience here. They have a very large menu with a lot of options and choices. I would definitely recommend to anyone for any meal breakfast lunch or dinner!

This location in specific needs to make it look like they care about what they put on my plate. Everything looks kindof just thrown there. At least garnish my chili with a sprig of parsley or a dollop of sour cream. The service is good. Veronika and Alex M are awesome. The manager Morgan is a very nice except she always seems concerned with what she is eating as opposed to us, who are paying. Bathrooms are clean, hostess is kind and beautiful (russian?) Not sure if I should return.

I love this place. Not only is the waitstaff super friendly, but everything on the menu so far has rocked my socks off (see: buttermilk pancakes, club combo triple decker) And they have pickles in a barrel if that's your thing

We just moved to the rockville area and I almost feel guilty about giving this place more stars than my old deli I use to go to! This place is a hit!!! Simple and a great variety that's not overwhelming. From the chicken kabob salad to the amazing sandwiches...this tucked away deli has it going on. A staple in the neighborhood and I am sure the hot spot for people to grab lunch during the work week.

I've been to this restaurant a few times now and have always been happy with the service and the food. They have tons of options, though I always seem to get the turkey Ruben. A great place to get a classic hot or cold sandwich.

I love this place! Their menu is huge I can never decide what to order, but I'm always satisfied. One thing I must say (that sounds a little weird) is that they don't do that well with breakfast dishes, especially those that involve eggs. But I can't even complain because I can order anything I want off their menu. This morning I ordered spaghetti and meatballs for breakfast (which was an amazing idea). I love pickles so I love that they have a pickle bar, and now they have sauerkraut?! Awesome for if you order a deli sandwich! The prices are really good for the amount of food you get. The service is always great too. The quality of their food is even with what you pay for, but at least it is tasty and prepared with care - which is all you can ask for!

I've been here twice in the past year for lunch - the food is not particularly great or terrible; what it lacks in novelty/taste/flavor it makes up for in value (decent portions for lunch prices), consistency, and variety (the menu is more akin to diner rather than a "deli" - in fact, there isn't much "deli" in this place other than barrels full of pickles (?)) The Ruebens are stacked but a bit too much dressing; the BBQ pulled chicken sandwich on kaiser was similarly filling but the accompanying fries were average at best (too deep fried). Service is friendly, straightforward, and quick - you can get lunch in and out within 45 minutes if pressed for time. Despite my three stars, this location is better in terms of variety and value than most of the lunch places that are in the town square.

This would be the second time I've been to Woodside Deli, and I must admit, I love it! I brought my parents here because hey, if you love someone you need to feed them right. And of course, my treat is my pick too. I ordered the Grand Slam which is a humongous amount of food. 4 triangles of french toast, sausage, bacon, potatoes and 2 eggs is just too much for one person to eat! Or maybe just too much for me to eat! I might be biased, but I think everything here is delicious. Did I mention the pickles? They have pickles and pickled food that you can go and grab from the barrels up front to eat! Well, I hate pickles and pickled foods, but it's a pretty nice pull for this place! The staff are so nice and the place is so homey. If you're impatient like my mother is, this place might not be the place for you. But if you wanna grab a cup of coffee, read a newspaper for an hour and be served by some wonderfully nice staff for breakfast or brunch, then come here! I'll be at the table right next to you, maybe.

Alex M is the best server. All the other staff is super friendly as well. I got the Woodside Skillet and it is delicious. I'd highly recommend Woodside for breakfast/brunch, lunch or catering needs.

I have always been a fan of Woodside. I was a patron of the one in Germantown for many years and since moving to North Bethesda, I have yet to go back. That is until I re-discovered Woodside and remembered that there was one in Rockville. The long and the short of it, is that this place has a vast menu that would serve to cure any craving you might have. They have some weird hours though, like only open until 4 on Sunday and Monday's. Aside from the weird hours, they always serve consistent eats and the service is truly a friendly neighborhood dining experience. On top of everything, they have a pickle bar here which they did not have in Germantown. Being a fan of pickled anything, this was right up my ally. Best of all its completely free....BONUS. If you are looking for killer sandwiches, or just anything delicious in general, give this place a shot. You wont be disappointed.

I've been here twice for lunch, and I would say that it's OK. It isn't worth a special trip, but if you're looking for a place for a networking lunch near Rockville Town Center, you could do a lot worse. The place is friendly and clean. You get a warm welcome when you come in the door and the wait staff is pleasant and attentive. The food tastes good. I just wish there were more of it. On both visits, I had a reuben sandwich and it looked and felt small to me. All the ingredients were solid, but everything could've been bigger--the bread, the corned beef, the kraut, cheese and Russian dressing. If they want to charge me a few bucks more, I'd be OK with that, or maybe they can have regular and large sized sandwiches--that would be good too. The salads and chicken soup looked pretty good from a distance. I might give one of them a try next time!!!

What a poorly run business. I checked yelp for their hours and verified them on the website, but when I arrived at 8 they said they were closing (though they were suppose to be open till 9) Not a way to run a business. I won't be back.

I can't speak to quality of the food here. But when I called the restaurant on a Thursday evening @ 7:47 to ask what time they were open to, I was told 9pm. Upon arrival @ 8:30, I was told the restaurant only serves carryout food beginning at 8:30. This was not communicated on the phone to me, and is a glaring and unfortunate oversight. Despite having my 5 year old and six month old with us, and brleing informed we were two hours from home, no offer to seat us was made. We are instead seated as I type this @ the Peruvian restaurant next door. However the food tastes @ Woodside, this is no old world, New York-style delicatessen. My family grew up in the appetizing bysiness, and the first rule was treating the customer like they were family. This establishment will only treat you like the black sheep.

The food is good. 4/5 The service I am confused about. Russian server 2/5 We were greeted by a young girl with the biggest smile. She led us to a table and just gave us a warm fuzzy feeling. Unfortunately, she was not our server. I have been reading about the Russian server...let me say that she is very nice but made us feel like she was rushing us out. When my dining companion asked about the soup of the day she was actually steered away from the Vegetable soup and towards the chicken noodle, which was much more flavorful and used fresh carrots and celery instead of frozen veggies. She even brought out a sample of the veggie soup to compare. She was attentive...enough. I wish she had told us about the pickle barrels. I ordered the Triple Decker #1, Cyrano de Bergerac $9. Pastrami, corned beef, swiss, slaw and russian dressing on rye. Delicious! Instead of chips I paid extra ($2) for potato salad. I was happy. A couple bites into my sandwich, the check was brought to my table. She did ask if it was "ok". I told her, "no". I needed to spend $20 for my Groupon and needed to order dessert. Instead of letting me eat in peace, she needed to know right then and there what I wanted for dessert. It was only 2:45pm and they did not close until 4pm. I asked for the dessert menu and she proceeded to list the different items they had for dessert. I asked her if she was leaving because that would explain why she was rushing me to order and pay. When she told me she wasn't leaving, I gave her this perplexed look and she thought I was confused about their cookies. Again, she was very helpful and brought me the whole basket so I could see what she was talking about. As I wanted to just eat my sandwich, I ordered the cheesecake to go $6. Turns out I could have had a slice of apple pie for half that price...if only I had seen a menu! This story gets better. So, she brings the cheesecake and now she wants me to pay. I showed her the Groupon on my phone and she waits for me to hand it to her. WHAT??? I figure I just hand it to her and she discounts the check. NOPE! She tells me that I still owe a dollar and some change and she stands there waiting for me to pay her. By now, I am livid. I give her my credit card and continue eating my sandwich which is now cold. The funny thing is I never see her again. Someone else brings me the credit card slip and I had to ask the nice young girl for a box because I no longer want to be here. I seriously hope a manager reads this review. The food is delicious and the prices are great! As I live down the street, I would come here often. But I will not be back. I eat out a lot. At least four times a week. The russian server tried to be helpful, but I have no idea why she was rushing us out of the restaurant. I guess it was too inconvenient for her to have a table to wait on. No pickle. No ice tea refill. No box. No server. No going back. Sigh.

In this day an age, it's hard to get good food for a good price. Apollo has lost a customer today to Woodside Deli. Clean and cute atmosphere, funny old fashioned ads, free pickled products if you eat onsite, and kids eat free 3 days a week from 5 PM till close. They have a coffee bar, but frankly I didn't think they were a good value. The bagel and nova platter does NOT include capers. I didn't even know that was ever done that way. I requested that they consider adding it to the menu a few times, but was kind of brushed off. Oh well. Overall a great first impression!

My first breakfast dining out in the New Year. It has probably been 14 years since I've been here. With Parkway Deli a block from my house, it is hard to go to any other deli. We were probably the youngest folks in there, and because I just used the word 'folks' I guess you can surmise that I'm not that young. There appeared to be a lot of regulars enjoying their breakfast along side us. My friend had her usual bacon and eggs and I had my semi-usual french toast. I ordered a side of bacon to take home for my pooch. It was only $2.50 for four crispy slices. The french toast was okay, but nothing special. They use a thicker slice of bread, but no cinnamon or nutmeg. Whatever. It was cheap; $5.95, I think. I think I can wait another 14 years to come back. There is nothing wrong with this place. Service was efficient (Don't ask for ANY substitutions). The utensils were clean. Parking was easy. My dog was happy.

Well, on my third trip to Woodside Deli, I left happier than either of the first two times, and I was happy with my meals both of those times, too. The matzoh ball soup here simply can't be beat. The matzohs are fluffy, but not mushy, there are huge chunks of tender carrots, celery, and chicken, and the broth is perfect. I don't think there will ever be a time when I go to Woodside without ordering the soup. The pickle bar is awesome. I love the garlicky spears and the dills. The pickled green tomatoes and the health salad are also excellent. I'm not a fan of half-sour pickles, but those who like them have said the ones at Woodside are good. For my entree this time, I got the fish and chips. They were excellent. The breading on the fish was super crunchy, not greasy, and the cod was still nice and tender on the inside. The "chips" (fries) were awesome. They, too, were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and had really great flavor. The prices are reasonable, the service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy. Woodside will be a regular destination for me.

Went here with a friend and two children on Feb. 5, and at 10 a.m., the place was surprisingly empty with the exception of a few tables. People are missing out because this place slings great breakfasts. When I order scrapple at other diners, I usually get two squares. Woodside gave me three squares and a boatload of home fries. We never had to ask for refills of water or coffee as our waiter was attentive. After our meal, I told me wife that I'd rather eat here than wait 30 minutes to an hour at First Watch Cafe in the nearby Rockville Town Center.

My office orders from this location every so often. This review is only for the lunch selections - such as salads, sandwiches and soups. I have never actually sat down and had the pleasure of having more comfort food dinners here. Although, I do plan on doing so in the future. The salads are decent. Very often average and bland. No good salad dressings. The sandwiches are good, especially the traditional kosher style variations. I really enjoy the matzo ball soup from here. And I don't know about dining in, but when you order the matzo ball soup for carry out, they give you a HUGE portion. The matzo balls are large and the soup is so flavorful. Definitely my favorite thing to get. The portion of the soup alone is perfect and filling. I never need to order anything else. Recommendations; order the more comfort food options and soups. Some of the traditional kosher style sandwiches are your better bet. I would stay away from the salads! The prices are a little on the higher side for a diner like setting. But I do feel that the quality is much better than your average diner, and they do carry some great comfort foods, you may not find in your average diner. Service is decent. Again inconsistent. Sometimes they are quick and friendly. Sometimes they are slow and very unpleasant. Really depends on who takes care of you. Always the polar opposites. Parking at this location is a PAIN! Especially during lunch time, parking is full and restaurant is busy. Orders get backed up and you spend a good 40 minutes driving in circles on one way streets to find parking.

MARIO IS BACK!! Mario is the sort of server that any restaurant would kill to have on deck! He's alert, considerate, helpful and quick. And now he's the manager! We love to have breakfast out, and we find it hard to get consistently good food at a fair price---but the Woodside Deli is the place to go in Rockville! Our meal this morning was great--hot, well made with quality ingredients, and served in a very friendly, but not over-familiar way. There is a parking lot out front whose ticket the restaurant validates, making parking free. We'll be back soon.

My second visit (11/21/12) to "Woodside Deli" was delicious. The Pastrami w/munster cheese sandwich & the fries are very crsipy. The fries have a coating w/rich potato flavor.

Pretty standard fare. Ordered the French onion soup and eggplant Parmesan, the husband ordered some chicken sandwich. First of the wait was ridiculously looong! After waiting for about 30 minutes we thought maybe they have forgotten our order or something, but right at that moment the onion soup miraculously appeared! All I'd say is the soup wasn't worth the wait! Unfortunately, the rest of the food wasn't impressive either.. The eggplant parmesan was pretty bland, I could barely finish half of it. I didn't even bother to get it boxed.. Not impressed!

This evening, we ate dinner at Woodside Deli in Rockville. This was one of the worst, if not the worst, dinners we ever had at a restaurant. First a few good things. They do have a pickle bar with good sauerkraut, OK health salad and pickles. I had the the grilled chicken sandwich and it was good, even though it had to be reheated. Now as to why my chicken had to be reheated. Our waitress totally forgot about us. After 40 minutes of being ignored, I went up to her as she was entering another order into the computer. When I asked about our food it was obvious that she had forgotten us. I warned her not to bring it out if it was cold. When she did bring out our orders, my chicken and french fries were just barely warm. My wife had ordered a corned beef reuben, but the waitress brought out a corned beef sandwich, so it all had to go back to the kitchen. At this point the manager took over for our waitress. During the hour or so we were there, neither of them ever thought to refill my wife's water or my iced tea. Fortunately they were able to warm my chicken without drying it out, and they gave me fresh fries. My wife's reuben was AWFUL. The corned beef was rubbery as if it had been microwaved. In our minds, you judge a deli by its corned beef. Woodside failed on that score. Add in the absolutely atrocious service, and well, we definitely will not be back. If you had any sense, you would avoid this place as well.

A really great deli! I love the food, the atmosphere, the dated decor. One thing that separates it from its nearby counterpart Parkway is that they seem to do a much better job handling the weekend crowds. We always seem to be seated quickly, no matter how daunting the crowd looks, and the service never suffers. The location is strange, and parking is far from a breeze, but those brief struggles are ultimately well worth it once you get inside.

(visited 12/24/11) This Christmas Eve afternoon was my first visit to the Woodside Deli. It's a quaint little eatery decorated with old photos and ad posters in a small strip mall nestled next to the Rockville Town Square. Very friendly staff, extensive menu (at least I thought so for a small place), and really delicious corned beef! It was a late lunch so I showed up hungry and what I ended up finishing off I didn't think I could at first glance. the #1-The Cyrano de Bergerac triple decker sandwich!! That is was a very over buttered 3 slices of rye and placing hot pastrami, corned beef, & Russian dressing topped with creamy slaw & melted swiss cheese in between the rye. Overall the sandwich was good enough that I am willing to return and try something else on the menu. The "bonus" for dine-in patrons here is the unlimited self serve pickles in barrels you can have to compliment your sandwich. They offer 3 selections of pickles, pickled tomatoes, pickled vegetables, and a barrel of house made sauerkraut. I think for this area the triple decker sandwiches here are reasonably priced considering the portion and quality of the meat I had on this visit. So overall it was a good first impression here now we'll see if it is consistent on my second visit :)

Very tasty sandwiches. We tried several different sandwiches and meatloaf, and they were all fantastic. Also sometimes groupon sell their gift cards, grab some if you can.

Went here for lunch. Wasn't too busy once we first got here around 11;45 but it started to get busier as time went on. I got the chicken cordon bleu sub. It was pretty good but I don't think I'd get it again because the Philly cheesesteak was much better. My grandmother had the cheesesteak sub and it tasted so good. Was mad I didn't get it. The fries are nice and crispy and the sub rolls are very good also. They had a good assortment of desserts- which I would have tried one. Will be coming back again for a cheesesteak.

Mediocre at best, Bland tasting foods with simple ideas. Nothing special about getting a turkey pita or BBQ chicken sandwich. White bread, sliced meat, cheese, no flavorings beyond that of simple homemade sandwiches. The pickle bar is a nice amenity, but it doesnt make up for the lack of imagination in the menu.

I used to really like this place. I really gave it a fair chance. I gradually realized every time I went there they were sort of ripping me off. It is not a cheap place to eat. Sandwiches are 8 and 9 dollars, and come with......potato chips. The coffee is routinely absolutely terrible. Once got a piece of cake there at night walking home from dinner with my wife....tasted exactly like what it was....sitting in their fridge for probably 2 days. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice/thrice, shame on me! I vote with my feet now. To their credit, the food is not bad. But there are too many other options around Town Square to take the kind of value they are providing at Woodside. You can hit up any number of the fast casual places around and get a much better deal.

Lunch meat is a forbidden food on the pregnant woman's diet. Being the good rule follower that I am, it had been about nine months since my last cold cut sandwich. Needless to say, I was overdue! Woodside deli came to the rescue. My husband picked up carryout on a Wednesday night around 7. I ordered a salad with salsa instead of dressing and a turkey sandwich on toasted wheat with lettuce, tomato and spicy mustard. The salad was fresh and they included two types of salsa-mild and medium. It was covered in sliced cheese (which I didn't eat) and hit the spot! My sandwich was huge! I ended up pulling out half the turkey. It was thickly sliced and not watery or overly salty like cold cuts can be. My husband had the deli sub and really enjoyed it. The bread was fresh, crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. Both came with ruffled potato chips. Cheap, fresh and delicious!

I am a little pissed off with what just happened to me at Woodside Deli. Let me start off with first, I've been here once before and the food was good, so my friend and I came back here with a Groupon for breakfast. We ordered the Woodside Reuben, and the Half and Half Egg Benedict, which were both tasty, and the waiter seemed nice. He told us that the Egg Benedict came with fries or grits, and that the Woodside Reuben came with onion rings or fries, so we gave him our options. I also ordered hot chocolate, which was $1.67 on the menu. We did not tell him that we had a Groupon until the receipt came. When the bill came, it was about $7 more than we had anticipated. Upon looking at the receipt, it turned out that they charged us $4 for the hot chocolate, and $2.99 for the onion rings. When we questioned the cashier at checkout why the hot chocolate costed so much, she said that he had served us the "fancy hot chocolate" instead of the normal, which I had no way of knowing since it was NOT ON THE MENU and he had NEVER ASKED ME which one I wanted. All I said was that I wanted hot chocolate. Also, he told us that the onion rings came with the meal, when apparently it was a side item that costed extra. Ladies and gentlemen, this is considered FRAUD. How can a business charge for an item off the menu without even asking the customers what they want? It's only $7 over, but it's the principle of the matter that the restaurant has to be honest and responsible to be a good establishment. I don't think I'll be coming back here because of the uncomfortable feeling I had when I left the store, and I don't know how much they will charge me next time.

There's not a single good deli in Washington, DC. Not anywhere. So far as I can tell, everyone here is on Michelle Obama's diet when it comes to food. BUT...if you MUST have deli, and you are confined to the boundaries of the Greater DC Area, this place will do. The deli meats aren't bad at all; the matzo ball soup is solid, it's a pleasant throwback to when red meat was good for you. This place might have died a horrible death in New York, or at least drive the owners crazy trying to make it profitable. But it'll make it in DC.

Woodside is classic deli/diner fare. I used to eat carry out from here all the time in the early 90's because I worked about a mile away and the consensus was always either Woodside or Popeye's - and you can only eat so much Popeye's! It's in a really tough location for parking because of traffic, so I'm guessing that most of their business is carry out. This was actually the first time I've ever eaten inside the place in about 15 years and it appears to have never been redecorated in that time. The staff is super friendly and not in a rush, checking back right away to make sure everything is OK. The food is just like I remember, which was always fantastic. I got a sandwich, but I recall some great breakfast food as well as really good entrees "back in the day" :-) If you're ever leaving Silver Spring, it's just on the right before the ramp to get on 495 and it's worth the stop. The food is served fast and it's great.

It's almost like a little taste of home. I recently discovered Woodside Deli and have been back several times since my discovery. They pretty much have anything and everything on the menu and the prices are sweet for a poor man's (me!) budget. The tables are kinda bunched together, so you can evesdrop on your neighbor's conversation or check out the pictures on the wall. I haven't made it to the back room yet to check out those pictures, but I hear they are quite interesting. It can get pretty crowded on weekends for breakfast and lunch, but we have lucked out with the crowds for dinner.

An absolutely spanking family deli. Had a tremendous breakfast featuring a lovely ham steak and ....wait for it....grits. Yeah baby. Bring it. Service was absolutely smashing. Place looks great - a lovely comfortable down home casual vibe to it. Guy in front of me at the till was complaining that tey had changed their patties and he didn't like the new ones. That's a class spot right there.

Taking into consideration cost and portion size, I gotta give this spot 4 stars. I'm not really a diner type gal, and wasn't really raised on down home American fare. Had breakfast potatoes or home fries for the first time last year. I also do not like eggs; however I popped in here and ordered some french toast and home fries for breakfast. Coming off an evening cheering on the Caps, I was in a state of mind that demands grease. French toast wasn't bad, and neither were the home fries. Don't tell anyone, but I bring my own maple syrup with me when going to places that I know won't have real maple syrup. Fake syrup was a crime in my house growing up as it should be in all yankee households. Overall my bill came to $8, and as stated, portion size was huge. The waitresses were all very nice and seemed to know everyone. I will return - and please tip your waitress well here. The food is such a bargain, but they shouldn't have to take a loss because of that.

My husband and I went yesterday afternoon after hearing great things about this deli. We ordered the #1 and a BLT with American Cheese and a side of onion rings. When we arrived home we were surprised that this cost $24 and change as the sandwiches were quite small. My BLT was not very good bacon was overcooked and I like mine crispy but this went beyond it also tasted like it had been sitting around awhile. The pickle was less than impressive tasted like a cucumber that was floating around in some dill juice for a few hours, and lastly the chips were stale. My husband did enjoy the taste of his pastrami sandwich but the size was very small and very expensive. We wont be going back.

I have been here for breakfast/brunch only but a number of times and figured I should write a review. They definitely get busy on the weekends, which of course is most likely when I have time to go. But, the wait is never long and the place never has a feeling of being overcrowded or too loud. The service is always impeccable regardless of how crowed it can be. The food is yummy - and the menu pretty diversified. Basically what you'd expect to find at a good deli. I have had the omelets a bunch of times and always love them. They come with home fries/potatoes which are ok but not fabulous. Better to get the slice of tomato or even the grits. They muffins are good too. I have also had their fluffy pancakes, mmm mm, and the whitefish salad and bagel and locks. All delish. The coffee is pretty good to and plentiful. Good to come with kids or friends, or just on your own. Friendly neighborhood feeling, fun decor, and just good grub.

I am ecstatic that I won't have to go down to Silver Spring anymore for the greasy diner food and the hyper-extensive menu that I love. I want to note that this deli is actually a sit-down restaurant. It's located where the old Pizza Oven used to be near Rockville Courthouse. I dragged my co-workers for lunch today, and I'm so happy I did. We showed up around 11:45 to beat the lunchtime rush, and were seated right away. The deli has the picture frames and the cozy atmosphere of the original Woodside Deli, but without the murky, musky dustiness that Georgia Ave has seemed to have acquired over the years. I split the strawberry belgium waffle and the Woodside skillet with Angie. Fries were perfect. Even better with gravy. There's a free pickle bar for eat-in patrons. Service was fantastic, our glasses never ran dry, and we even had a kindly gentleman named Barry bringing a plate of free fried potatoes and cheese around. By the time we went up front to pay for our meals, a line had formed out the door. I love Woodside Deli. After months of anticipating its opening, it's finally here, and I will definitely be back!

good breakfast on a Sunday morning. Place crowded but no line. Prompt service, quick to fill coffee and food quick out of the kitchen. Omelette was done perfectly, home fries had good crust from the grill. Standard fare done well with quick, no fuss, no drama experience.

This was my first visit to the Woodside Deli. I decided to give the place a try based on a Groupon deal I received. I went there for breakfast and was quickly greeted by the owner and led to a table. The place was mainly empty on a Wednesday morning with the exception of a couple of tables with what looked to be elderly regulars. I ordered a burrito with potatoes and chocolate chip pancakes. Both were excellent however, they were a little stingy with the syrup, serving it in a small metal pouring cup. The food cae out fast and hot and the waitress was nice and adequately efficient. Upon checkout the manager accepted my Groupon w/o any problems. The atmosphere struck me as kind of bland and boring but if you are just looking for a quiet place to get a decent weekday breakfast Woodside Deli in Rockville fits the bill.

I have heard my good friend Steve rave about this place, but I have been dubious of his reviews since encouraged me to attend a concert of the Left Banke recently which I was non-plussed to say the most. (Suffice to say that over-the-hill musicians are not much better than over-the-hill ahletes). He is also (want to be very PC here) is of the deli persuasion, so I was a bit suspicious of him talking up his ethnic food heritage. I am happy to say he is spot-on with this comments on the Woodside deli. I went there with my wife and she is Chinese, so the entire Western culinary skill base is not always appreciated by her. However, she does have a craving for pickles. You could say the deli had her by the time we passed the pickle barrel. An additional note on the pickles, they had big one and small ones and very briny ones and ones that tasted a lot like cucumbers. (I am not quite adept at pickle reviews, but I did taste a couple and they were extremely tasty). Did I tell you they were free and you can go back and help yourself? Li especially thought that was a good idea. And, that is not all. They also have pickeld tomatoes (way too briny for my taste) and sauer kraut which Li said they have in China. Another international honoratium. Well, I was a bit miffed at the service. The place was not crowded, yet no one came to give us menus, in fact, I had to get up myself and fetch them. But then, I read the menu and it said something to the effect that if you are not served in 5 minutes, wait another five. I got the idea the owner was trying to deflate the type A's. Good idea!! Now, the piece de reistance. I ordered the pastrami sandwich, onion rings and Li ordered a Tuna Melt. Absolutely, unequivocably the best pastrami sandwich south of the 80's in Manhattan. There is a place in the Rio Center in Gaithersburg that is called the CB (initials used to protect the guilty) which ought to have its food license revoked for selling what is called a pastrami sandwich. The Woodside delie was so good! Toasted rye bread, layers of warm succulent pastrami, melted swiss cheese. Oh, heaven! The tuna melt was also good, although she took out the bacon. And, the onion rings: no excess oil and done perfectly. Li said, "We are coming back here!". I agree.

I think this place is a bit overpriced for the quality of food they serve. We met family here for a late breakfast and was generally disappointed with the food. They serve the saddest and most expensive breakfast sandwich in the area. What's worse, they don't even include a side w/ the meal.

There is a certain expectation when you try to market yourself as a New York deli. They went to the trouble of having a pickle bar, but the cheeses and meats seemed like the prepackaged stuff you buy in the dairy section of the grocery store. It seems to thrive on the regulars who come there- we, however, will not become regulars or even repeat customers.

We were actually up in Silver Spring to get bagels, but in a forehead slap inducing error, we went on a Saturday. The bagel shop was obviously closed. So we looked across the street, and saw this little diner next to a gas station with a *packed* parking lot, and decided to give it a try. It was ace, perfect diner breakfast food. French toast, sausage, bacon, silky eggs over easy and home fries, along with perfect diner coffee. Service was quick, and the Reading the other reviews, I want to go back for lunch!

I've given this place several chances & they never fail to fail. The Reuben was terrible - the meat was awful & the bread was saturated in butter. The breakfasts are okay but often very bland. Except for the matzo ball soup this place is really a greasy spoon. Go next door to Pita Hut. They are awesome!

Woodside Deli was awful. We went here for brunch and wanted to order the Eggs Benedict but they were all out. Let's ponder that for a second...there aren't that many ingredients to that dish. Does that mean that they use some kind of egg substitute in the kitchen? When I bit into the Racheros it became obvious. Totally bland concoction with some New York City brand salsa slathered on top. To make matters worse, the service was poor. The waitress didn't know what to recommend (in hindsight it doesn't matter since everything looked bad) and she never brought me a dish to put down my used teabag (my LIPTON teabag for all you politicos). Save your money for Denny's or IHOP.

After reading the reviews, I expected more. While the pickle bar and people were nice, the prices were high, quantity mediocre, and the matzo ball soup lukewarm and flavor free. They offered to make it right but we were on a tight time schedule. Five onion rings for $2.99? Clearly hot and made from scratch. The pastrami and Swiss sandwich was good.

Next to my office. First 3 times they could not get my order right despite sending the food back. Since then my orders have come from the kitchen 50-50. Pickle bar is about the best thing going. Chicken Soup is just like mom's. The rest is not even close to Woodside's Silver Spring location. This is a follow up review. Since opening, Woodside Rockville has worked out a lot of the bugs. The place is running much better. Cudos to management for recognizing that they had a big problem and fixing it.

Do you have a favorite Christmas carol from pre-stereo days? And you want to hear the vinyl version, not some digital cover by Brittany Spears or even Mariah Carey? Well, that's the Woodside Deli. The walls are covered with poorly framed black and white photos of people like Shirley Temple, Gregory Peck, and Natalie Wood. The decor, if you can call it that, doesn't look like it's been updated in decades. But I think the clientele would be upset if they came in one day, and it had changed. I had the Woodside Reuben which was wonderful. DW had the homemade chicken noodle soup which may have had a whole shredded chicked breast in just one cup. Whatever you do, try the chocolate shake. It was incredible! I have to mention our server, Shira (whose name means song in Hebrew). She was like a field marshall, directing bus boys, customers, and other servers. She keeps the place running. If she were in charge of the DC Metro, I guarantee there wouldn't be any late trains.

I wish I could give this a 3.5 stars instead. After hearing a rant about the great sandwiches, I had to check it out. If it was strictly based on food, this place's Woodside Reuben is AMAZING! So fresh & packed sky high for the meat. And the help it yourself to the New York pickles? NOM! That would be the sound of me crunching down and wishing I could eat the entire barrel of pickles. I haven't come here for breakfast but I sure want to! The only detail that left me miffed was the POOR service. My friends and I were here for lunch and we all left appalled that he had not even gotten their water until about 20 minutes after they had been seated. While we were getting lunch, not everyone's lunch schedule permits that much time - so 20+ minutes later, they realized they have to pack it and go. It's one thing if it was just lunch that took a long wait - that's a kitchen issue - but fetching a glass of water for each of my friends? Our party size was small too so I feel like there was no excuse for that.

I rarely write reviews for places I patronize but I feel compelled to do so for Woodside. My partner and I have been coming here for over a year because of the great food, friendly service and comfortable setting. We live in Forest Glen so Woodside is just a short drive away. We're moving to Capitol Hill this summer and will miss our frequent visits but we will surely make the trek to our favorite weekend breakfast place...Woodside. (try their swiss and broccoli omelett...YUM!)

Mmmmm!! We had the corned-beef/pastrami triple-decker and WOW, was it good! The most tender meat I've had in a long time (since I left Chicago!). I was told they season it themselves! Oh, and the chicken soup was to DIE for!! The "pickle bar" is a great idea! Help yourself! They even had "half-done" pickles which have more of a cucumber taste! Goes great with the sandwich! Another very important part of this experience was the service. Very friendly--we were made to feel right at home when we walked in (and it was very busy!). During our meal, we noticed all the wait staff smiling and helping each other out.You could see people watching to be sure customers had their needs met. The owner came up to us before we left and asked if we liked everything, and spent a good 3 or 4 minutes with us to hear our comments and tell us a little bit about the place. Oh, and did I mention reasonably priced!!? Yes-sir, a very nice place indeed! Great experience!

I just like this place, it's real. They haven't changed much (as it would appear) since they first opened and it's pretty cool. They have TONS of nostalgic pictures, news clippings and posters from the past 6 or so decades - so neat to look at! And, they have new stuff, like a photo of the new first family, but mostly, it's a collection of items provided by patrons to be shared and enjoyed by all. In the back of the dining area, they even have an old radio and a number of other antique gadgets. The tables and chairs are old, worn and wobbly, but there's something comforting about sitting in a place so unpretentious and carefree. It's a collage of living history and I like eating sandwiches there. And drinking shakes. The service is just as you'd expect (maybe a little longer than that because we were wondering why it took so long to make a couple of sandwiches) and the food is decent. The reubens are really good - the cold sandwiches are cold sandwiches. Good, but you know, sandwiches. We also shared a chocolate milkshake that was a great addition to our sandwiches and chips. Their pickles were a little shriveled and small...and funny tasting, but don't let that deter you from their overall performance. (wink)

I have been here a few times over the years, most recently last Thurs after a surgical procedure on my wrist. At that point after not eating anything for 16+ hours prior, I could have eaten the wood paneling that has adorned the place for years. Not much has changed @ Woodside over the years, and I think they like it that way. On their menu is a note that says "if your server has not gotten to you in 5 minutes... wait and they will be there in 6... or 8." At many places, such an attitude would piss me off, but at Woodside it somehow works- service is harried, but always friendly. Prices are terrific. Food wise, pretty much everything is good, but nothing exceptional. I recommend the Reubens, the Chicken Noodle soup (huge chunks of chicken, lots of dill, very tasty), and the beef BBQ. Check it out if you are in the area, it is a unique experience, and dependable food.

The Woodside Reuben was delicious - and very full, where as a lot of places are skimpy with fillings. The pickle bar is also a nice addition. Our waitress was very nice and kept checking on us. The fries and onions rings are $2 extra which I think is a lot, but when the waitress asked if we wanted fries or onion rings, she pointed this out. (A lot of servers will not mention this, they just add it to the bill at the end because technically the menu says there is an up-charge). I thought this was very nice of her - and we did end up getting fries and onion rings and they were really good. Very crowded even in the middle of a weekday, when we left at 12:30 (arrived at 11:30) there was already a wait.

After a not-so-impressive first experience, I decided to try it again. The server remembered us and was MUCH friendlier- she even gave my friend a big hug in greeting! The matzoh ball soup was pretty good, but I was not impressed by the Greek salad. Didn't realize it would have actual anchovies- bones, fuzz and all- on top of the salad. Regardless of the salad, THIS was what I wanted from this place.

As close as you're going to get to a NY (or Baltimore for that matter) to a good Jewish deli in this area. A Silver Spring institution, the new Rockville location is a sanitized version of the original (which isn't a bad thing) with pickle bar intact (full sours...yum!) The matzo ball soup is the real deal, with the matzo balls themselves delicious with schmaltz (chicken fat)...who does that these days? Woodside and my Jewish bubbie, that's who. They also throw in some "stuff" as my husband call it...a bit of egg noodle, chicken, carrots...Oy! We also indulged in the "Cyreno de Bergirac" sandwich...Woodside's (far supirior) version of the Reuben. Tender corned beef, pastrami, russian dressing and slaw on grilled rye...perfect. I also appreciate that the triple decides are not served as "stunt food"...they are certainly large sandwiches, but they aren't the towering monstrosities you find at some delis that substitute flavor for the look of a meat mountain. Now with Pita Hut, Jackie's Wine Bar, Lola's Argentinian cafe and Woodside in the same location, that sad little strip mall across from Town Center has become a dining destination!

This place is great! At heart it's a deli, so the sandwiches are really outstanding. I ordered the Cyrano de Bergerac, and it was delicious. Think a reuben on steroids: pastrami, corned beef, slaw, russian dressing, swiss cheese, and three slices of bread. In fact, all the triple decker sandwiches sounded amazing, but to branch out we tried to order some of the other items on the menu. The gyro is good, but not great. And you can definitely find better at an actual greek restaurant. The matzoh ball soup was really good, it had a nice homemade feel to it. My friend tried the veggie burger, which is house made, and quite good, according to him. Finally it's worth mentioning the decor, because it really makes this place stand out from other places in the area. There are old photos, magazines, and other strange promotions lining the walls that give the place a nice charm, but, as I overheard one couple referring to it, there is also an "adult section." This section, along with old life magazines, has pinups and nudes from around the 40's. This is nothing I would call even remotely offensive, and most of the dining room does not have a view of this material. But, for some reason I have to assume that my sandwich tasted all the better because of these decorations.

Mmmmm Woodside. We stopped here for brunch today around 1:30 and found plenty of seating. I ordered the pancakes which were so fluffy and yummy. My fiance ordered the western omelet which came with the tastiest home fries I've ever had. Whole meal was 13 bucks plus tip. Can't beat that at all. The pastrami here is also delicious (much better than at Parkway down the road and better service too!). And it comes with a pickle as all good sammiches should. Parking right in front can be a hassle but there is a metered lot by the light.

We're new and very enthusiastic fans of Woodside Deli! What a great place!!! Located in a non-descript Silver Spring shopping strip mall, I had noticed Woodside in the past, mostly because of the large number of cars always parked out front. Today was no exception. Woodside was packed on a Sunday at 3:00 PM. After we took our first bite of our shared pastrami sandwich (No. 1 - Pastrami on rye with Russian dressing and cole slaw), we understood why. This place has GREAT sandwiches, all at reasonable prices. Woodside's menu has an amazing number of both classic breakfast dishes (pancakes, omlets, etc.) and sandwiches and homemade subs. Each sandwich is named after a famous patron, giving the place, which already has a homely feel, even more of one. PLUS - they serve large 16 oz bottles of Orangina! Doesn't get much better than a good sandwich (served either grilled or plain) with an ice cold bottle of some French lovin'. The decor of the diner only adds to the experience. The walls are decorated in what one could only describe as history -- framed copies of Life Magazine sit next to photos of presidents and newspaper clippings. This is exactly the kind of personality that we love to see in a restaurant and the type of middle America feeling that will make us loyal customers of this great American diner and deli. Thanks Woodside!

I recently ate at the Rockville location for an early Saturday breakfast. I'm familliar with the Woodside Deli in Gaithersburg. I ordered the breakfast burrito and coffee. Ok, I know that's not really the fare for a deli but then the owner wasn't Jewish, either. At least they should be able to cook their menu. The burrito was mostly canned refried beans with a few fine-diced sausage and a thin layer of cooked eggs. The potatoes were greasy. Ketchup as the "salsa"? Seriously?? After being served disgusting food, I deserved better than the Folgers-quality coffee. The decor is consistent with the Gaithersburg location but I wasn't expecting oldies rock, which not the atmosphere I'm looking for at 7AM on a Saturday breakfast. As for the service, it was wonderful. I do believe the owner(s) are doing their best in a tough economy within a competitive industry. Still, I'm not eating out for charity. The difference in quality between the Rockville and Gaithersburg locations is *huge*. Summary: Rockville Woodside Deli is a waste of your money because the dishes are poorly cooked and they cut corners.

Food is good for quick lunch, and quick breakfast. Dinner is alright if you want a sandwich, but i wouldn't recommend eating in. The Ruben here is great! I'd ask for extra Russian dressing, and the veggie sub is good. (i ask for it on a wrap with extra hot peppers) Matzo ball soup & chicken noodle soup are very good too. The 3 layer sandwiches are okay. Ruben is probably the best at the deli. As for the dining I'd skip it, and go to carry out. The dining area is SMALL, very cramped and, sometimes it seams the walls are caving in on you. It does have a very warm atmosphere kinda like grandmas. (especially with all the picture frames) However i feel like i want to dust everything when I'm in the dinning area. The chefs, carryout staff and, the waiting staff are some of the coolest people I've come across. Very friendly staff. Management is always there for you to talk to. some of the food is good.....but i think parkway deli is WAYYY better.

can you keep a secret? i have a little confession to tell you. every now and again, i like to sneak out and put some meat in my mouth. i know, i know. it's bad for you to put too much meat in your mouth, but as they say - everything in moderation. therefore, an occasional meat cramming of the mouth is okey dokey. so you ask, just where do i go for this meat cramming of the mouth? none other than a nondescript strip mall off of Georgia Avenue where the Woodside Deli is located. you see, they have these triple decker sandwiches which are piled high with all kinds of different meat and let me tell you now, brother - some of them ain't kosher. if you dig on the swine - then this is your place. fear not my M.O.T. and Muslim friends, there is plenty of pastrami, roast beef, and turkey to fill your bellies. one bit of warning when eating these triple deckers - it's not a good idea to order a side of gravy fires to go with your triple decker (unless you are a real fat bastard). you just might rupture something if you try to finish it all. i recommend sticking to the meat and leave the veggies in the kitchen where they belong. now for my homophobic friends out there who may find it difficult to shove a sumptuous pile of meat into their mouths - don't fret. there are tons of nostalgic photos that cover the walls of this little deli. just make sure you are seated in the back of the deli where you will be surrounded by half naked, pin up pictures of the finest gals and dolls of the 40's and 50's era. not to mention, the famous Playboy pic of a red headed Marilyn Monroe. simply stare at Marilyn while you slide that meat into your mouth and everything will go down smoothly. stay clear of the James Dean pic and you won't choke on anything. focus.... on.... Marilyn. for those who may not be in the mood for cramming meat into their mouths (and let me just tell you - those people are plain crazy), there is an abundance of other items to choose from this rather large member.... errr, menu at the Woodside Deli. you can even get a fallefal platter, if you are so inclined. have at it, you meatphobes. one non-meat related note - their coffee is just 75 cents until 11am. i don't know why the time is 11am. perhaps they figured out that they run out of quarters around 11am, so they jack up the price in order to give the appropriate amount of change to patrons? perhaps the price of coffee bean futures spikes at 11am EST in the global market? there are many theories, but no conclusions. all you have to know is - get your butt to the Woodside Deli before 11am if you want some cheap coffee! in summation: when you are sitting on your couch on a lazy sunday afternoon and you feel a certain tang peculating in your taste buds along with a trembling pang in the chasm of your innards - it is time to get off the couch, head on over to the Woodside Deli, and put some meat in your mouth. don't forget to wipe the mayo off your chin. people might talk.

Very nice. Food is always good. Service just ok. Everyone's order comes out at the same time hot at breakfast. My personal pet peave at other Deli's in the area. It is definitely a example of how a Deli shoudl be run. Sandwitches are very good as are eggs, pancakes and coffee. Be careful one waitress is not great, seems she can not get orders correct and doesn't care if they are wrong. All waiters are awesome.

I really wanted to like this place because of the awesome pinup art, but alas, I just can't avoid the fact that every time I have eaten there the food has been bad. I went today for another round, just to give it another try, and it was worse then the two previous attempts. My food was cold and the fries were stale, the eggs were obviously egg beaters, pancakes tasted like Bisquick, and the cheese sticks marinara was actually just salsa (It was an eclectic lunch). The deli sandwiches have a lot of potential, but you have to get them when they are nice and hot and not room temperature and to that I'd say good luck! There might be more to this place, and I want to believe that, but after trying and trying to like it they've just let me down over and over.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Woodside Deli. That said, there's nothing really outstanding about it either. All their food is completely diner-level quality. Which, if you're after that, this is a great place. The staff is generally decent to you and they'll help you as much as their able. They are great for breakfasts or a sandwich.

About time the Rockville/Potomac area have a worthwhile deli move in. The matzo ball soup was great, if that's your thing. The lox was quite fresh; bottom line you can't beat their EXPANSIVE menu and free pickle bar. If you've been fiending a good deli then Woodside is the place to be.

I've been going there for 10 years and still love it. Family owned and operated, and it just has that authentic, old-school vibe. I hesitate to tell too many people because if it ever really caught on, I'd never get a table.

  • Lesly S.

Clearly Woodside Deli is a classic. I get the sense people have been going there for their entire lives, and the pictures on the wall are probably the same one's they've had up forever. It feels old, which can be a comforting thing. But since I'm a newbie, I guess I just don't get it. The food is average, the parking lot is microscopic, and the table arrangement is like playing a game of Twister--you're all over the folks right next to you! Maybe if I start going more often I'll get into it?

Very tasty and reasonably priced diner. Wife had some sort of monster club that was perfectly built. Plenty of meat and quality bread. I had a breakfast feast fit for a king. All of the food was freshly prepared. The waitress was very attentive. Really the only complaint I'd have is that all the food came on the same plate.

As a long-time fan of the SS and Germantown branches, this one has a long way to go. Ordered a corned beef sandwich with onion rings. The onion rings were great - hot out of the fryer. The sandwich had dry meat and rye bread. Ordered dressing on the side which could not revive the the sandwich.. And, where was the cole slaw? The server was obviously very inexperienced which was especially obvious at the end when she was stacking and attempting to remove the dishes and dropping them on the table even after we suggested she remove them in two trys. Fortunately, for a good quick fresh sandwich Subway is next door.

I have gotten carry out here a few times and the food is decent - i have mainly gotten steak and cheese type orders. I don't know that I could give this place 4 stars - but i would give it 3 solid stars. It isn't bad but the inside just seems run down - at least in the carry out area - light fixture covers missing, shelves worn, floor tiles missing, etc. A place doesn't have to be perfect and I get it has been around a while. But it just takes away from the place and makes you wonder how well kept it is.

    (3)
  • Lillian C.

They're ok. They definitely don't compare to a NYC deli, and if Parkway didn't exist less than a half hour away, I may have given them 4 stars. There's nothing offensive about the food here but you know you can pretty much get a better version of what they serve elsewhere in the county. Not to mention, they're a little pricier than other places. A sandwich alone is EIGHT dollars without any sides. You're looking at what looks to be a mediocre 12 dollar sandwich lunch if you add fries and a drink. If you don't mind traveling a little ways and waiting, definitely go elsewhere. If you just want breakfast or in a "I'm too lazy to cook today" mood, then Woodside is adequate. yes: anything with pastrami in it (get it on rye!) no: appetizers, Mediterranean dishes.

  • Christopher P.

I decided to have the Woodside Chef Salad and I was not impressed. Both the cheeses and turkey were just pre-sliced sandwich ingredients that they cut into strips. They couldn't even separate the cheese! Just was cheap an unimpressive. My wife's sandwich looked okay, but I would have expected better bread and sides for a Deli! The pickled vegetables they have when you come in are good though. Not sure I'd go back

  • Stephanie W.

I have to say first off I'm not giving it 5 stars only because believe it or not I have never set foot in the place, I have always ordered from Waiter on the Way. Every time I have gotten great food at a great price. I just had their turkey dinner which basically could be phrased as "Thanksgiving in a box" It had great turkey, mashed potato, stuffing...ect ect.. it was well done and the portion was so big I put the rest of it in the fridge for later. My only complaint, needed more rolls, one simply wasn't enough :) Ok I was just informed this should go to the Germantown site. Again I never actually physically dined so I am not sure which one I got the food from, but I assume it was Germantown.

I love this place for weekday lunches! The service is generally quick, so it's a good and convenient place to go on your lunch hour if you work in Rockville town center. My go-to is a veggie omelet with home fries and a bagel - the vegetables are invariably fresh, the portions are satisfying, and the price is right. I've been going to Woodside regularly for a couple years now, and there has been almost no turnover in the waitstaff, so it seems to be a good place to work as well. They validate for free parking up to two hours. Great choice for solid deli food and friendly service.

Completely inedible food. We ordered lunch takeout (beef sandwich and wings) and everything went straight into the garbage. The beef sandwich was DRENCHED in gravy (including the fries - gross!) The wings were awful. The beef was fatty and not even edible. Waste of money.

An update on my first review ( could it have really been five years ago?) This time around the ancient decor seemed more cheerful - nothing like a roomful of people enjoying their food to make a place seem better. Also this time around noticed the inventive breakfast menu - a friend really enjoyed his breakfast. I had a brisket sandwich. It still doesn't measure up the Parkside deli equivalent. the bread could have been better quality although the brisket itself was excellent. But shouldn't a $10 sandwich come with french fries instead of potato chips? The Parkside version comes with cheese and french fries for about a dollar less. Service was excellent.

Love, love, love this place! I always get one of the fish platters with bagels--whitefish salad is my vice. The price is reasonable and it's consistently delicious.

I used to live in Silver Spring, and so I was more familiar with the original location of this place on Georgia Av. I hadn't eaten there in a long time, though, and I've seen a branch location open and close on Rockville Pike. Recently they opened this new branch in the strip mall where it replaced a place called Pita Hut, and I decided today to try it, particularly since I just had a craving for stuffed cabbage. You see, the food that this place specializes in is my childhood food -- just as you see reviews by Chinese people saying a particular Chinese restaurant is so authentic (or not), and similarly for other ethnic groups, East-European Jewish food is my ethnic heritage. And I haven't had a decent dish of stuffed cabbage since my mother died a number of years ago. (She knew that stuffed cabbage was my favorite, and would always make it when she wanted to give me a special treat!) Well, the meal altogether cost me more than my usual lunch, but the portion was huge, and so I guess was worth it. And while the stuffed cabbage didn't taste like my mother's, or my aunt's, it was good. I'll probably be back again, though, as I said, the price of the whole lunch was such that I won't be doing it every day.

Was here for breakfast. It's friendly and clean, but the quality was lower than I expected for a place so close to all the courthouses, as well as having multiple locations. I expected corned beef hash made with real chunks of corned beef, but it unfortunately tasted more like canned.

Western omelette with Swiss cheese, pleeaassee! I absolutely love this place. My coworkers and I order from here about once or twice a week. Great service and wonderful staff, haven't had any issues. Top 3 favorites are the western omelette, chicken noodle soup and the turkey club. Portions are big!

I wanted to go to the pita place in the strip mall for a shawarma, but it was closed when I stopped over. I noticed this place next door and decided to grab my lunch there. Solid neighborhood deli adjacent to Rockville Town Square. Everything here has a neighborly feel, from the friendly staff, the barrels of pickles and sauerkraut, and the decor. The cashier was really friendly despite being stuck getting people pass a malfunctioning gate outside the door (get that fixed parking gate people!). The best chicken salad I've ever had. The chicken salad sandwich was chunky and very lightly but flavor fully dressed with mayo. I don't remember the last time I've had chicken salad sandwich when the chicken wasn't canned and/or stringy, and the stuff here was not. The matzo ball soup was amazing and not like anything I've had either. I admit, I'm not an expert in this soup, but the matzo was a balance of light and crumbly - not a dense dumpling brick. If this is what matzo ball soup is supposed to be like then I'm sold! Definitely want to come back to try the other fare and give a complete assessment of this deli. Solid!

Really delicious matzah ball soup that is always on point. I always come here for a fresh quart when I'm back at home. Flavorful, light broth and huge chunks of chicken, celery, and carrot. I think there's a sprinkle of squiggly noodles here and there. Yum! Coffee is good w/ free refills. The falafel platter is huge and definitely made for sharing. Very yummy and fresh. The fish and chips are good but not my favorite. On a recent visit, I had the Woodside Reuben with pastrami. Heavenly! I used the pickle spears to bite the protein of the Reuben. I would have to agree with the other reviewer that the Vidalia onion rings are phenomenal. As someone else mentioned, there is a free pickle bar but I usually just stick with the "mature" pickles and the pickle spears. Half-sours aren't my thing. Everyone here is super friendly and there is validated parking. Awesome.

My wife and I eat here almost on a weekly basis for lunch. Love the pickle bar and the really good and friendly service. The matzoh ball soup is excellent, with lots of chicken and vegetables. (They are more than happy to supply you with two spoons if you get a bowl to share.) After getting their delicious deli sandwiches for a while, we started getting salads (one chicken salad and one tuna salad) and share. The salads are very good, with not too much mayonnaise. The vegetables that come with the salads (lettuce, tomato, onion, peppers, cucumber), and hard boiled eggs always taste fresh. Each salad comes with potato salad and cole slaw, which also are tasty and not overly mayonnaised (if that's a word). One thing about the salad that is disappointing is that the Deli charges 50 cents for a side of salad dressing. That seems "cheap" to me - after all, it is a salad. Soft drinks are refilled and we never feel rushed. And more pickles!

Not bad at all. We were there during brunch so most of us ordered brunch type of food. The portions are quite large so that's always good. I got a veggie omelet, and bagel and cream cheese. It was ok. lots of veggies, and cheese inside the fluffy omelet. Nothing too special but not bad. They give complimentary coleslaw and pickles... so for pickle lovers, there yah go =). I can't really give an adequate score here because I only ordered one thing... but mostly the experience there was ok. Our waiter was nice but he sort of disappeared after we got our orders... so i'm not sure if he would've been back if i ran out of water or something. All in all, not bad. give it a try

I've been to the Woodside Deli a few times since moving to Rockville and I never have a good experience there. I am always going there for lunch, so I cannot speak to the breakfast food, but the two times I have been recently were for a ruben and a cheeseburger. As some others have said, the ruben that I got was just a greasy mess. Most recently, I got a cheeseburger. The burger gave me the impression that it was a frozen puck at one point in its recent life and it was also spotted with gristle. The cheese had no flavor so it was just empty calories. Veggies were all sad (except for the pickle) and the one thing I can say that was good was that the bun was able to hold up and not fall apart. The best, and most flavorful part of that burger was the polish mustard that I put on it when I got home. I have to say that I am sad because it would be my local deli, but I feel like I would get a better deli sandwich from a local grocery store deli counter. All in all, I am still in search for a decent deli in the Rockville area that does not come sporadically via a food truck.

Love this place. I come most Saturday mornings with a group between 8 and 12. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. The food is unpretentious, but the have a good selection and it always tastes good. The location is always clean and parking seems adequate.

We went yesterday The food was good. The only reasons I did not give 4 stars... #1 they had 1 waitress on the floor and it was a holiday with a huge event in the area! #2 the "hostess" had a super shitty attitude!! And could have helped the waitress but was to busy outside smoking! #3 they offer turkey sausage as a side...IT WAS A TURKEY HOTDOG! seriously just say "I don't have any sausage would you like something else?" DO NOT try to pass off a freaking hotdog, sliced in 1/2 and grilled as sausage. #4 they gave my husbands pancakes to another table, brought my omelet and were making him new pancakes. So I was done eating before his even came.... Other than those issues I thought the food was ok. I would like to go back another time but not sure we will. I had the egg beaters with feta, spinach and mushrooms and could only eat 1/2 of it.

Amazingly friendly and prompt service, per usual. Complicated takeout order exact down to the half sour pickkes. The matzo ball was not solid and came apart. They need to improve on that. If you want matzo ball soup with just the broth you have to tell them. Otherwise you get chicken noodle soup with a motzo ball in it. I removed one star for that. Sandwiches are made with top quality meat.

This review pertains to a takeout order. The food is a bit more expensive than the subway next door. I am always on the lookout for good subs though. I will pay for more for higher quality when it comes to sandwiches. The wait for my sub was much longer than I think it should have taken. I believe the staff forgot about me. They also messed up my order and put vinaigrette on my sub. The lunch meat was fresh but was covered in their overbearing vinaigrette sauce. It pretty much ruined my meal. I might go back there again, and if I do, I hope next time the staff figures out how to make a sandwich.

First time I have eaten here and I it was really tasty. They have a large menu selection for breakfast (which is served all day so it's a plus), lunch and dinner. The wait staff was very nice and gave prompt service. I'm glad they made a good first impression on me and I will be making return trips.

You know, friends have been eating here for years. Now I see why. You know the type of place- a place with older pictures screwed willy nilly onto the wall, that you find...well, curiously fascinating. Conversation slows, as you and your dining companion's eyes rove over, well, EVERYTHING on the walls. And, that takes time. Then, the food comes. Wait staff is excellent and friendly. And, very knowlegeable. The portions are huge, the taste great. What's not to like here, guys? Oh, one thing. They do run out of parking spaces here, so try to carpool, willya?

A fabulous breakfast joint This is an established eatery, hidden in a shopping strip on a busy street. Don't let that deter you - it's been there for decades, and is filled with locals who know a good thing. The staff is practiced and pragmatic, the food is good - next time I'm in DC, I'll stop by. Not sure how it is for lunch or dinner, but as a breakfast destination - it's great.

3.5 Stars--Sometimes A-OK can mean, "it was good enough, nothing offensive, but nothing exciting." Other times A-OK can mean, "pretty good for what it is, and worth returning to for a particular reason"...In Woodside's case it is the latter. The food is 3 Star average, but satisfying in the grand scheme of things. I doubt you will crave a specific item. The friendly service and great prices are what give this place value (the additional .5 star). Solid casual dining option in Rockville.

Had an issue w/a groupon. "Sandy" who claimed to be a manager who had an awful attitude from the start refused to make it right blaming her inability to do so on Groupon. After a conversation w/Groupon it turns out that Sandy was full of shit and could have completely and immediately rectified the issue. I brought this to Sandy's attention and even politely suggested that she might consider resolving the issue by extending good customer service and perhaps gaining me as a customer. She wasn't the slightest bit interested. Spoke to a 2nd Manager "Nicole" whose attitude was equally if not worse that Sandy's. They no nothing about customer service and as a result I wont ever go there, not because the food is good or bad, but because of the horrible, rude, and nasty attitude towards the customer. In addition, I brought this to the attention of Groupon who told me they have had many complaints and issues w/Woodside deli and they promptly refunded me what I paid. So, Woodside lost out completely, I was refunded the full amount and I will never go there.

It's 3:15pm, the Chargers game starts at 4:15pm, and I'm craving a sandwich. Head to Woodside Deli in Silver Spring or Rockville? The Rockville location was a little closer to where we were and would give us some extra time before the game started. So, we called in our order and headed there. I ordered the potato skins appetizer (skins cheddar cheese, bacon, sour cream, and chives-$5.95), a charbroiled chicken club with wheat bread ($9.25), and the #1 with wheat bread (hot pastrami, corned beef, Russian dressing, creamy slaw and Swiss cheese -$8.50) to go. Once we got there, we waited about 5 minutes for our food to come out. Excited to eat my food and in a rush to get home in time for the game, I didn't end up double checking my order. Bah...shame on me! I got home and ended up with a charbroiled chicken sandwich, not the club. So sad. I wanted the bacon and cheese, not just lettuce and tomatoes! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I totally would have been fine eating this sandwich, but it just didn't look appetizing. Because the sandwich was hot and the bread looked like it was toasted with loads of butter, my sandwich was soggy! My lettuce pieces were wilted and my tomato slices looked sad. The condensation of steam into water that dripped down from the containter due to my hot sandwich (yes, I'm a nerd) also made my fries soggy. I opened the other container and the #1 looked better, but was also soggy. The potato chips weren't crispy as well. Bah. The potato skins were okay. A little too crispy for my liking though. I'm also not sure why they have to put it on a bed of lettuce. Is that supposd to make it healthier? yelp.com/biz_photos/7lrC… I called Woodside Deli to let them know that my order was wrong. Although the manager offered to fix it next time I came in, this won't happen, because there won't be a next time. You would think they would know to keep warm food from getting soggy. Poke some holes in the styrofoam container, get a different container...do something! This sogginess made the food unappealing and altered the taste of what could have been a delicious sandwich (but let's get the order right first). I'd head to the original location in Silver Spring if I were you.

I ended up at Woodside Deli today for two reasons: 1)Gloria I. wrote a review yesterday that triggered me to come back here after all these years and 2)I wanted to catch up on some emails after dropping by the Staples nearby. As soon as I walked in, I was reminded of all the reasons I was fond of Woodside Deli when I was in high school. I love mom and pop type diners. I seems to score some awesome classic meals at these types of establishments with menus laced with comfort foods. The restaurant walls are adorned with framed black and white photos of Fred Astaire, Shirley Temple, Dick Van Dyke and other classic icons of their time. But what's so cool is that they are the original Life Magazine covers and periodicals that are framed. There is hardly a spot on the wall that is not covered with these nostalgic photos. Then there is the nudie wall - a wall in the very back of the diner with 1950s sketches of semi-naked pin up girls. Although I may not want to show this off to a little boy, it's still fairly innocent and tame although it gives the back of the restaurant a little edge. I order what I always used to order here - a classic, Italian sub with French Fries. Less than 7 minutes later my food comes out - that was fast! The sub was pretty good, although it was a little too heavy on the meats and cheeses. The one little piece of lettuce on the sub just wasn't enough for me to balance out the heavy salami. Still tasty though and the bread was soft and warm. The waitress warned me that if the fries were not warm enough to just let her know, but they were just fine for me. They needed a little salt, but other than that, very tasty. I feel like the entire meal COULD have been better, but I was satisfied overall. Sitting in the back of this restaurant, on my laptop (with the nudies above me) was peaceful and enjoyable - very cozy and relaxing.

Blah at best. Fried egg sandwich was overdone, bacon limp, only cheese on half of the sandwich. Pancake no flavor, turkey tasted like boars head. Great fries. Tons of better options. Would give 1.5 if there was an option for it.

I love this place. So close to home but not to mention so good! From the breakfast to the lunch this place has got it. I favor a turkey club triple decker. Nothing like a good turkey sandwich lol. Definitely worth a try.

Practices here are rude and petty. Placing a takeout order is a study in frustration and being repeatedly interrupted. I could put up with that, to a point, and supported a neighborhood restaurant. The last straw was having my order cancelled by a manager, who did not tell me until I had waited for 20 minutes. The restaurant outright refused to fill my order because I had originally accidentally placed it by phone at another Woodside location. They lost my business.

A family of 6 ordered various meals, my kids love chocolate chip pancakes but home fries were burnt, they refused to touch it. I ate a bit of it, it was burnt aftertaste. My wife ordered roast beef sandwich, it was a bit too raw so we sent it back and ordered a cheeseburger instead. Cheeseburger was very good. I ordered a corned beef reuben. Reuben was AWFUL. It was rubbery and soggy. Our kids enjoyed their meals but we the parents don't enjoy our meals. There is a telltale sign that the business is struggling because they offer free meals for kids on Mon, Tues and Wed. Service was so-so. The parking lot is very very small and it is not free, you have to pay to park there. The street is full with parked cars with meters. We won't visit again.

I always have a great experience at The Woodside Deli. LOVE LOVE LOVE the Matzah ball soup, and their meatloaf dinner reminds me of my mothers. Highly reccommend breakfast, especially on the weekends, you never have to wait in long lines like any other breakfast places.

I've been here three or four times and have never come to post a review of this place, and I think it's because it's the type of place that, while not bad, is completely unmemorable. I've tried two or three omelettes, the waffles, a burger, the fries, and french toast. The free pickle bar is a nice touch - I'm a sucker for a good pickle. But still, if I'm spending money on take out, I want something really great, something I can't make myself at home. I've always liked the food here, but it's not better than what you could make yourself. On those lazy nights when I don't feel like cooking and want something simple, I stop by here, but once I move more than a short walk away, I don't think I'm going to miss Woodside.

I got a groupon a while back, and was blown away, so I grab 3 groupons whenever they are available. The sandwiches are pretty pricey, but the groupon offsets that. I've had their fries (very good) potato salad (mediocre) their Chicken salad triple decker (decent) but to any and all of the bad reviews on here... do your research. I looked before going here, and saw that everyone loved the "Cyrano de Bergerac. So I got it on my first visit, and now my family and I get it every time we go. A phenomenal Reuben variant. If you tell me that sandwich isnt an INCREDIBLE deal for 4$ post groupon, I'll call you a liar, or someone who doesn't like Reubens. TLDR get the Cyrano, ignore any bad reviews here, you won't regret it.

BEST place for unpretentious Saturday morning brunch. If you're not in the mood to dress up, hit the town, and pay $25-$40 for brunch, Woodside Deli is a nice alternative. My friend and I went there the other week and loved our eggs benedict. These people are expert egg poachers. Pair that with a coffee and you have brunch made in heaven for $10.

Perhaps this place has not been reviewed because it is truly off the beaten path... Well, kinda. It's on Georgia Avenue, north of Silver Spring, just south of the Beltway. The parkling lot is the size of Rhode Island, which might be another reason people either miss it, and/or drive by... Yes, the decor is as funky as funky can be, and it doesn't have the largest dining area, but this man's breakfast food jones was more than sated by the fare. The toast alone was worth my close proximity to some jerk holding a verrrrrry personal phone conversation at 8 in the friggin' morning... Okay, almost... But I liked the food anyway.

I usually go to the Silver Spring location, where the service is always great those ladies over there are great, I go there for the food but most of all for the service. I just started going to the new location in Rockville, because I live closer to Rockville, food is great. That was my first visit on my second visit I was blown away I was waited on by one of my favorite servers Sandra. With her there keeping me company and waiting on me I tell you this the food was even better. I will be back and will tell my friends and my family. And for those people with any issues about Woodside Deli thats there misery talking they are not happy with them selves. There is a good wholesome place to go to, Keep up the good work.

If I were honest I'd give them three stars but they made our (sort of) brief residence in Silver Spring a little more liveable so they get the extra star. Breakfasts at the Woodside are among the few positive memories I have of living in the South--always delicious, always served by nice people, lots of cool crap up on the walls, and a very pleasant walk from downtown (obviously we didn't walk down Georgia to get there).

i am not writing about the Rockville Deli but the one they have(the original) in Silver Spring on Ga Ave.....it is absolutely not the place it was...we were there Sat evening and evidently others agree as we were one of two customers in the place......soup nothing like other deli's....sandwich (we ordeed one of their specials) was greasy....mystery meat.....iny wife would not finiish it....we did not order fries....never do...but they came...told the one server that I did not order he said"thought you did"///noticed they were included on the check....will not go back ....unfortunate journey into the past that should be best remembered as it was....

Best deli in the D.C. area. Very authentic Jewish style deli in a nice, open space. The pickle bar is the icing on the cake. Had matzoh ball soup which is the best in the area, and a delicious burger with perfectly cooked fries,, and the wife had a hot turkey sandwich which she thoroughly enjoyed. Service was friendly and very helpful with our 2-year old daughter. We will be back soon.

We ordered lunch today. We have been giving all of our business to Parkway when we order from delis - today we decided to change things up a bit. Everyones food was good, including mine. I ordered a cobb salad, which by the website says it has avocado on it. Not today! When I called to inquire the lady that answered said "We don't have avocado, I'll let you talk to the Manager". After a five minute wait on hold the Manager explained to me that they no longer have avocado on the salad but have yet update their website or carryout menus. Go figure... see my last complaint.

Woodside Deli never disappoints. Maybe that's why it's been around for over sixty years. It was introduced to me as a place to get a satisfying deli sandwich and dessert. With such an extensive menu the toughest part was always making my decision. Lately I've come to know the Woodside Deli as home to some of the best breakfasts in the DC area. On my most recent stop I tried something I hadn't before, the Woodside Skillet. A medley of potatoes, yellow and red peppers, sausage, and onion, all topped with two eggs, it was a welcome sight on a rainy morning. If you indulge in coffee, like I do, you'll be happy to discover that the waitstaff keeps the refills coming. Service is attentive and friendly, while the surroundings are nothing fancy, just plain comfortable. If it's your first visit you'll want to check out the walls, which are chock full of things to look at. All in all, the Woodside Deli is the perfect place to go for a leisurely meal, even if it's not a rainy day.

My boy friend and I tired this place for breakfast this morning. We live close and just moved to the area. The service was ok, it was busy and I think our sever was new. I got eggs Benedict I would not recommend it, the eggs were totally cooked through. The rest of my meal was good though. My boy friend had something basic and it was really good too. I would definitely go back and order something else. Maybe even try lunch. I walked away feeling like it was a well run, clean, friendly establishment.

Whether you're having breakfast, lunch or dinner, Woodside Deli can satisfy even the biggest of appetites - and they'll do it for cheap! They are a good ole diner, and they have a huge menu of the usual diner fare. You can start your day with eggs or pancakes (or both). For lunch, you get your choice of over 50 sandwiches, along with other menu items. Dinner includes standard favorites like meatloaf and fried chicken. And dessert? Well, if you're not totally ready to burst - and you should try to save some room if you can - their pies are delicious. I'd recommend the Boston cream.
