Although I went there only once, I had a really good experience at the Seska Lounge. The food was really good and they custom made something vegan just for me, which I sometimes try to eat for health reasons. The employees were great, very helpful with food suggestions and the bouncer was very nice. They have different themed evenings in terms of their DJs. Their location is really unique and it always looks pretty busy. It's behind a shopping center, but has plenty of parking and lighting. The decor was very unique and just... well, cool! As another review mentioned, most of the clientele are Africans, but it doesn't seem African-themed or exclusive to Africans or anything. If I go there again, which will probably be a Reggae Sunday event, which they said has no cover, I'll expand, but I thought it was a really cool place and wanted to give it a better review because some were unnecessarily negative on here. I'm actually thinking about going their tonight after writing this!

I started going Seska almost every weekend for about a year now. it's truly one, if not the only African spots to hang out around northern MD, however it's had it ups and downs over the months. Initially, there used to be a lot of people and it was really fun seeing so many Africans (especially East Africans ) having fun, then the management had a 100% increase on the entry fee for all gender. This killed that place and all appeal to reconsider their decision fell on deaf ears... Well, the inevitable happened. For quite some time the place was literally empty... Perhaps that led to some sensible business decision. In the last month, no entry fees has been collected and people are beginning to come in significant numbers again. it's a nice place to be and the DJ (Especially Friday nights) is awesome . The food is quite nice, and for people like me who just want to see cheerful People.. I hope the management gets it right this time. Tay.

Ownership has changed since my last review in 2010 and it is now owned by a Kenyan Lady, thus the food is no longer a fusion of African/American/Jamaican, but more Kenyan and east African influenced. We tried two dishes (can't remember the names). The dishes were good and plentiful. Wish they would mix it up a little bit and offer dishes from other African countries, but I am pretty sure it would be a bit difficult....oh well!!! The place has potential to take it to another level (commercialy and business wise), but as I know my African people....:) ...it probably won't happen...but check it out, it's a good place to experience.

Depending on time of night this place is either a terrible wannabe night club in the middle of nowhere, or a restaurant and bar run by what I can only guess are friends of the owners. Terrible alcohol selection, sub par food, strange awkward atmosphere.

Nice atmosphere. The food is great. Only issue I have is that there is no sign on the main road telling where it is located. The happy hour specials are great and the music is just right. i've been going on thursdays and it's been a nice treat weekly

On the nights I've been to Seska: 1) I'm agitated because it is a nightclub buried in the back of some bumblephuck strip mall in Rockville awkwardly adjacent to 'Beer and wine Latin market" and next to the dumpsters. 2) I'm mystified about why I usually have to fork out a minimum of $10 cover for this suburban Maryland excursion. 3) I'm exhilarated when I enter this small, dark, but surprisingly-not-sketchy-at-all club and hear African beats pumping. A crowd of all age groups typically hailing from the Motherland is alarmingly ready to contort, writhe and jiggle to the early hours. 4) I'm exasperated at the pricey drinks and slow service. The only solution to this is buying more drinks because then one no longer differentiates between the dance floor and bar area so not a single minute is "wasted". 5) I'm exhausted. Seska stays open until 3 which is a great time for the pretty young thangs to duck out as the vultures/suitors begin aggressively circling in an alcohol-infused haze.

If you like clubbing and don't want to go into DC then go here but the food is nasty.

A great find not wanting to go into the city. Great atmosphere! Great prices! Great music! The owner, Francesca, is a wonderful person! At first we couldn't find this place but realized it was in the back...Can't wait to go back!

Went to this place on 3/4, and all was dark and quiet. is it CLOSED? Perhaps. Would like to hear correction from another reviewer, accordingly.

This place is like found treasure! In this unlikely spot is a beautiful and worldly setting that transports you to a fantastic culinary experience. Even better than the food and lovely decor is the unbelievable service; with a professionalism coupled with warmth, the friendly people at Seska will make you want to come back every day. The owner, Francesca, seems to always be on hand making everyone feel welcome. And the bartender, Sheri, is delightful with her witty repartee and extreme proficiency. As a lover of fine food and ambience, I count this as one of my favorites in the area.
