I was super early to an appointment in the area and was starving. I didn't want the same old stuff (Panera, Jerry's, etc) so I decided to try Moby Dick's. I wasn't disappointed. I was greeted by the friendliest staff who took my order. I got a veggie sandwich. I was shocked at how HUGE it was. I told them there was no way I could eat the whole thing and they laughed- said they have boxes for just that reason. For less than $7, I was so surprised at how much food you got. The veggie sandwich was delicious. I'm so glad I got it. The cheese in it was so good. The avocado was perfect. The sauce was light and tangy. I was in and out of there in 15 minutes. I'm so happy I stopped in here and finally tried it.

Moby is a multiple location mini- chain, but the food is very constistant, and consistently good. We had the Joojeh (Marinated chicken), Kubideh (ground seasoned beef), hummas and a veggie platter for me. Usually, the food is on styrofoam plates and we get the saffron rice since bread comes with the hummas. The atmosphere is cafe, fast food eatery, but families can be easily accommodated by pulling multiple tables together. Service is pleasant and relative quick.

I have a long history with Moby Dick and its nearby locations in the DC area and have tried just about everything on the menu over the years. While the food remains unchanged and is still as good as ever, there are two reasons why my most recent visit will probably be my last: 1) there are a ton of new fast-casual restaurant chains popping up over the area with lots of different spins on cuisines, and 2) the prices at Moby Dick have gone up (a plate of rice and 6 chunks of meat now costs over $10) and are not really worth it. If you're already in the door, the kabob entrees are really good (my favorite are the chicken and the lamb) but only come with a whole lot of rice and two charred tomato slices. The combo plates with two racks of meat (shown in most photos) are much better because it's about the right amount to complement the rice, but run from $12-$15. You will probably be better off getting a sandwich or platter. I also highly recommend the veggie sandwich or veggie platter - both come with deliciously sauteed cheesy vegetables. For an extra bonus, you can get a side of meat with your veggie dish and they go gloriously together (much better than the normal meat/rice only option). Your entree is also served with a half slice of freshly baked pita bread and yogurt sauce. The hummus and eggplant dips that you can order come with additional bread and are delicious, but are costly given the size of the orders.

this is a decent Moby Dick location Food -I always get combo II and the chicken and kubideh came out fresh and tasty. The rice was warm (not hot though) and the salad was fine. The bread and yogurt as usual were amazing! Location -The restaurant itself was a bit shabby. There was duct tape holding the booth seats together. No one was busing the tables and they were mostly dirty. Parking - plentiful lot parking in the strip mall Overall love the food at Moby!

On October 23, 2014, my brother and I went to Moby Dick's for lunch. Thursday is our favorite day to go there because of their lunch special, Zereshk Polo, which is baked chicken, served with steamed basmati rice, and garnished with sautéed barberry (currants), shredded tangerine peel, sugar and saffron. The Zereshk Polo was sweet and savory as usual. We also ordered Moby's Veggie Platter which didn't look anything like the picture. It came with sauteed fresh mushrooms, onion, tomato, spinach and alfalfa sprouts served on a bed of Basmati rice. Even though Moby's Veggie Platter was light dish, it wasn't anything spectacular.

The reason I'm giving two stars is not because of the place being horrible but because of the very slow service especially at lunch time (12:37pm). We have been waiting over 15 minutes.

Worse service ever!!! they took down my order wrong and they get offended I don't think is right for "manager" and employees to discus the issue infront of the customer and start talking in their own language it's so unprofessional poor customer service falls grove location is really bad manage

Out of all the moby dicks I've been to this place has the worst service. I always ask for the green hot sauce they have and suddenly it costs $.50 each. I've never been charged that and I told her that and her reply was " i guess it's a new rule" (very rudely, with her rolling her eyes). I definitely won't be patronizing this location anymore.

Food is good. Just wish my chicken wasn't undercooked almost every time I go. I always order ahead... not sure why they have trouble with this. Other than that.. no complaints.

Not being familiar with this chain, I figured I'd give it a go while in town for training. I wasn't expecting much and honestly was just happy I could walk here from my hotel. Inside, the restaurant was clean and the staff anxious to help me decide from the options of sandwiches and platters. I ended up with a combo of beef and lamb kabob with a salad instead of rice. I was a bit taken back by the price, considering I thought it was sort of fast food and turned off by the nickel "bag tax" added to my to-go order. However, they earned some credit back once I saw the portions and tasted the quality. They offered a Persian Ice Cream, but were out so I missed my chance to give it a chance =( Overall, slightly better than typical fast food, with a slightly better environment, but slightly higher prices. Solid option - still not more than A-OK.

Just like the college park location, the menu is excellent and the food is high quality and good. They give you a nice amount of meat for the price you pay which I appreciate. However, these full restaurants are a hair more expensive than the express versions. My favorite option at all Moby dick locations is the joojeh which are juicy chunks of chicken breast. Lamb is very good too but a bit pricey. Now the cons: 1. Microphone abuse! Every minute they call out over a loudspeaker the order number. If you hesitate for even a second they'll call the same number again. Not necessarily what I call an enjoyable experience. 2. A longer weight than most fast casual restaurants. They cook the meat to order but the thing is, I don't notice the difference in quality between the meat here and college park where it sits in a hotel bin and is regularly refreshed, kind of like chipotle. This would make sense for dinner service but for lunch I want to grab my lunch and go. My food is already going to be cold because it's sitting on a salad so the made to order so made to order is a nice but unnecessary gesture. 3. A hair more expensive than college park. They both give the same amount of meat but college park gives you much more salad. I will not hold this against them since compared to other Kebob restaurants in the area, this is reasonably priced and has a reasonable amount of salad but if you like to eat like college kids the Moby Dick location is superior. Overall I still believe this is the best restaurant in the fallsgrove shopping center. It's a local chain, the food is great, and you'll be hard pressed to find as much meat for lunch at this price. I wish there was one in the Wheaton location so I could always have a healthy low carb high protein option available.

Okay so I went here on Thursday this week with a few classmates! This was the first time I have ever tried middle eastern food, so it was pretty adventurous! Well, I ordered the spicy chicken kabob with rice, which also came with yummy tomatoes! I didn't really like the kabobs! But, the tomatoes were good...can't really go wrong there and the rice was extremely dry! They do offer free naan with mast-o-khiar! Don't get it confused with ranch! I definitely did that and was not expecting the taste I got, but the bread was good! :) Oh and you can watch them freshly make the bread! Very neat! Nice vibes though and the employees were really nice. Kind of a longer wait than I would have liked for the food, but with good company, it's fine!

This is definitely one of the chains better locations. The food came out perfect for everyone in our party. And it was so good we ordered takeout. Food was great Service was great Plenty of parking is a plus

This is a well known place in our area - very solid for kabobs and Persian fast food. I just had the Zereshk Polo, their Thursday special and a dish I regularly get whenever I'm in town. It's an interesting dish because (1) they always hide their chicken under the rice (the first time I ordered it, I thought they had forgotten the chicken!), (2) the chicken is always very tender and comes right off the bone, and (3) the mix of crispy sweet rice, tangy currants/orange peel, and oily/buttery basmati rice and chicken seems incongruous at first, but it makes sense in the end. I think this dish is less savory than their standard fare of kabobs, but it is worth a go if you're feeling adventurous and want something slightly outside of the ordinary. Other pros: price - very reasonable. Seating - this location seems to have just the right amount, even on a busy workday lunch. Freshness - I think the quality on this dimension is fairly consistent. My only suggestion would be to manage your expectations on the bread - yes, it's basically made to order, but it's definitely dry and needs a major assist from the yogurt dip.

This review has nothing to do with the food and everything to do with the management and customer service. I've been going to Moby Dick at Falls Grove for years and never truly minded the mediocre customer service. I always attributed it to staff shyness about English being a second language. HOWEVER, on this occasion I went online to look at the menu, saw that they had some new mobile app that you could pay through, and decided to try it out. My order went through fine and was ready when I got to the counter. I used the mobile app to pay and left with my carry-out -- no problem, right? Later that afternoon, I received a call from a very pushy man who insisted that I hadn't paid. I'm a pretty law-abiding guy, so I was immediately offended and annoyed by the accusation. I'm also inherently suspicious, so I started probing and learned that this fancy new app wasn't processing payments correctly (i.e., I did nothing wrong). Despite it being their fault, this man (the manager?) insisted that I pay again. credit card payments can take 1-3 business days to clear, depending on when the store closes the day out, so I pushed back by saying I would watch my credit card account to see if a transaction went through before paying again. When he realized I wouldn't budge, this guy accepted that as a solution (or so I thought). For the next three days, despite having previously discussed and agreed to the timeframe, I received multiple voice-mails from this guy, badgering me about paying, threatening to take the money from the employee who'd processed the transaction, etc. I was really steamed. When I'd confirmed with my credit card company that nothing had gone through for roughly a week, I went to the store, found the poor clerk who'd processed my transaction to begin with, and paid for the meal. I also asked as politely as I could muster whether the other guy would stop leaving me belligerent voicemails. I got a sheepish smile from the clerk and a sideways glance at the culprit standing at the other end of the counter, but nothing more. Needless to say, I WILL NEVER, EVER GO BACK TO MOBY DICK FALLS GROVE, and I may never eat at a Moby Dick restaurant again. There are other options for kabob that don't come with the poor behavior and customer service.

My previous review was removed because "it appeared to be intended for another establishment" -- I guess the management contacted Yelp and complained. Let me be clear, this review is intended for the kabob restaurant DBA Moby Dick's House of Kabob at 14249 Shady Grove Rd in Rockville, MD. I love Moby Dick. But I will not eat at this location again... And their food made me think twice about eating Moby again. They served me moldy rice (carry out). When I called to complain, the manager said he was aware it was musty... The whole shipment had a bad smell. I pointed out it was a health hazard... He said it was sent by the Corporate Office, and they had to sell it. He refused to take any action, but said I could call the office to complain. Honestly, I don't care how lackadaisical Headquarters is. If you receive bad food, send it back. Don't serve it.... Ever. When a food service manager shows this little concern for food safety, we should be afraid. Very afraid.

GO TO CASPIAN IN THE KENTLANDS INSTEAD!! This particular Moby Dick is a decent place for generic kabobs. However, customer service from the female employees has ALWAYS been rude. I've over heard them criticizing me personally bc I was with my boyfriend (from their culture) and am in an interracial relationship. Last night pushed me over the edge when I tried to order for carry out. The girl had a huge attitude, sounded annoyed and actually said "OMG ugh why did u say 'platter' if you just wanted rice?!?!" And I replied "I don't have your menu memorized!" I then asked for her name, which she said "why do u need my name?" So I called her manager directly to explain how rude she is. Never going back!

I visited this Moby Dick location with my aunt last week and really enjoyed it. It's Persian fast food, so you can't expect it to be fine dining, but you still get a delicious meal for a reasonable price. I ordered the kabob koobideh platter with salad (get the rice instead - the dressing is a bit bitter and definitely not something I enjoyed). I really loved the kabob - it was fresh, juicy, and came as two generous skewers. I also really loved that they gave us a bowl of tadeeg (hard rice). I am obsessed with tadeeg and could eat a whole plate of it in a sitting. The service was friendly, the food was fresh, and it's in a convenient location (a large shopping complex with plenty of parking). Can't ask for any better than that. We've also ordered food to go from here before and it's always been reliable and fresh.

The food here is so good and a family favorite. However the staff, especially the lady who takes to go orders is about the rudest person I have ever spoken to. Repeat the same order over at least three times and half the time when I get there, the order is still not right. I know they are busy there quite often but customer service is shot here. How hard is it to get a chicken with rice platter. Oh I am sorry lady, you don't have to scream at me that a platter means salad too. I just asked for chicken with rice....you work there not me so no need to be rude. Just give me what I ask for. Make sure you check your bag before leaving or you will be sure to end up with something you did not order but still got charged for, or something is missing. NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES you repeat what you want.

I don't see what all the fuss about this place is about. The wait is too long, the manager doesn't give a crap about what's going on, and the food is just ok. I saw all the great reviews on Yelp about this place and decided to try it out. But it pretty much ended there. It took almost 30 minutes to get my meal and it wasn't that busy. When I went up to the counter to ask where my food was, the manager didn't even look up from wiping down the counter. He just said its almost ready. Meanwhile behind him, two young ladies overheard me and started looking through the orders calling out to the back "where was number 560" (my order). About 5 to 10 minutes later they call out my number, and just walked away when I went to get it. No so sorry for the wait, no apology, they just walk away from me. After all that, the food was bland and cold. I'm not exaggerating when I say I say I just walked out of the place and threw my food in the garbage can in the parking lot. Ended up eating a cheeseburger just across the way from them. This place was a waste of money and time.

Good food but terrible service. I have been going to this location since their inception but i would rather go to other locations if possible and when i am not in the neighborhood. They need someone better to answer the phone also.

We were really glad to have Moby's come to Fallsgrove several years ago. In my view, they make the best kabobs in the DC area. the service at the Moby's is generally good, though it's thankfully not the speed of "fast food." My only gripe with Moby's is that it's pretty expensive for some chunks of meat, rice, and a piece of bread. Granted, it's a lot of food, but it adds up quickly! Still, it's a nice treat and a bit on the healthier side too. I'll be back for sure.

During our numerous visits to MD, we had always seen the Moby Dick House of Kabob chain but never had the desire to try it until a friend recommended it and said it was one of his favorite places to eat when he lived in MD. We don't have any Kabob chains in NJ or NYC. The closest thing to this kind of food we have are the Halal carts with their various rice or salad platters that you can get on the streets of NY. We decided to get dinner here one night. The place wasn't packed. The person taking our order probably sensed the fact that we weren't familiar with the menu and was very nice. I decided on the Kabob-E Joojeh, but opted for the salad instead of the rice. My boyfriend decided on the Moby's Combo II which had one Kubideh and one Joojeh. He got this with rice. We ordered to go to bring back to our hotel, which took a little longer than your average fast food time but we didn't mind since it meant fresh food! We didn't realize how much food it all was! We def could have shared. Overall the food was good and fresh. Just not something I could have every week and probably not something I would crave either.

Service is extremely slow and when you come in to order, they'll continue to do what they're doing without acknowledging you. How can anyone run a successful business like this? Smh.... Management needs to revamp the two old guys that wrk the register during the day :) just saying!

    (1)
  • Arun M.

Food Taste good, people are not rude, the place is very casual, but this place doesnt wow me. It can get very loud at times and the place feels more like a sandwich shop than kabob place. Dont expect fast food servuce because the orders can take awhile. I was hoping to see more Mediterianean desserts but I didn't. This place is still good if you're looking for some healthy options.

I love love love the food here! It's delicious. But I have to say that I was not happy with part of my service dining there recently. I asked the woman up front if I could pay for another piece of bread. While she was charging me, another customer also came up and asked for another piece of bread, but didn't offer to pay for it. The woman at the register just goes over and grabs her a piece of bread! Unbelievable, I thought to myself. I wondered had I not said specifically, "May I pay for another piece of bread," would she have just given me one for free? Bottom line is this: please treat all your customers the same. There's no reason one should be charged again for bread while another gets to have it for free. I work hard to earn my living and have no problem paying for food and services, until I see this happening at one of my favorite places to eat and that makes me angry!

I refuse to come to this Moby Dick location ever again. The food has been getting worse and worse, and the portion sizes smaller and smaller. But the worst part is, the service is absolutely horrible. Today I ordered a spicy chicken kabob platter for lunch, a simple enough request. After sitting in front of the cashier and waiting for 30 min, I went up to ask about the status of my order. The cashier took a look at my receipt, walked into the back and disappeared into oblivion. After waiting for another 5 min, I informed another cashier that I had been waiting for a little over half an hour. He had the gall to tell me "no way." Excuse me...? I finally got my food after about 40 minutes, which is quite possibly the longest I've ever had to wait. They've definitely lost a customer today.

  • Natasha S.

I thought this was a good location. Most of them are pretty consistent, but I've been to a few that were just not remotely as good as the others. This one is good. The kabob meat is perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. The rice and bread is always hot and fresh. The salad always has fresh ingredients. I love their lamb and beef. I especially love their eggplant appetizer. Their daily specials are good as well. But they run out quick so only available for lunch really. The service is fairly quick, even on super busy days with long lunch lines. I am always pleased when I come here. Prices are standard to all their other locations. I know when you walk in you expect cheap because it's a fast food kind of atmosphere. But really... Persian food is never cheap. So this is actually much cheaper than actual sit down and other quick Persian fare establishments. Additionally, they carry Bastani (Persian ice cream) here! Woot!

This location needs a huge shake up. They offer Terrible service and the salad was disgusting. They need new management to improve the quality of the service and food.

Food is good, as always, but much prefer Olney location. They are MUCH friendlier there. Here, I was greeted by a sullen woman who apparently doesn't have a clue about how to smile and greet her customers.

  • Steve J.

Been a while since I have been to any Moby Dick's. I got a chicken wrap-like carryout and it was good as was the yogurt/cucumber dipping sauce. However, the baklava dessert bumps my rating down to 3 stars from 4 because the ingredients label says sugar instead of honey. Kind of lame.

  • Stephanie B.

Moby Dick seems to have aimed for a solid "decent," and hit right on the money on all counts. The food here is good. Not great, but good. The portions are adequate. Not large, but adequate. The prices are inexpensive. Not cheap, but inexpensive. The atmosphere is suburban. Not "food court," but suburban. I would suggest thinking of Moby Dick as being to kabobs what Chipotle is to burritos. It's a great place to take people who have no idea how good kabobs can be (this may include yourself), but would flatly refuse to eat at some specious little hole in the wall where the food is often fantastic and food poisoning always possible. In contrast, everything about Moby Dick signifies a safe and enjoyable dining experience for the whole family. And that is exactly what it is, no less and no more.

  • Avi S.

Had this two nights in a row. Both times ordered Joojeh Kabobs. I have to say it was pretty good. The rice is light and seasoned the way Persian rice should be. Maybe a little too much oil though especially since they claim they are healthy. Lost a star because they said they would Charge me for the green sauce. That's like Getting charged for Taco Bell sauce. They did give me a container of green sauce on the house though.

Very good food! The platter for 3-4 people feed my family of myself, my wife and our two kids.. We still have enough for my wife and I to have lunch today! The price seemed a lil high at first but once we received our meal it was obviously worth it given the taste and portions! I will go again without a doubt..

  • James R.

Well, I was excited to try this place out because I have not had a good kabob in a long while. I ordered the platter with Beef and Lamb. While the lamb and rice were delicious I was unimpressed with the beef. Portions were fair for the price. I will defiantly go back to try some of the other items... but I am not in a hurry. It was fine for kids.

I eat here pretty frequently when I'm in the area on business and staying overnight. The staff is not the friendliest bunch or either they are just way too serious but they are efficient and accurate so I can't complain too much. The servings are healthy and you won't leave hungry. I recommend one of the combo plates. You can't go wrong with the tenderloin, lamb or chicken. All are excellent.

This kabob chain is usually decent. But this location is the worst. I came in at around 830pm to order a simple beef kabob for a family member in the hospital across the street. After waiting 30 min for my order and seeing others came after me get theirs, I asked for an update. They said it's coming. Few minutes later, I asked again. This time they said there's a problem with the kitchen. After about 5 minutes of talking back and forth amongst themselves without even an apology, they tell me to wait for another 5-10 minutes. At this point, I had enough and asked for a refund. I went to another kabob place 10 minutes away with much better service and food. There are too many good kabob places to spend money. Why put up with bad service, mediocre food, and ever increasing prices?

    (1)
  • Al M.

Good food - but horrible service. The folks at the counter need to be more courteous given the amount of customers they get. They've lost one tonight for sure.

I remember having my credit card overcharged here a few years ago and there was no rectification of that. Also from my memory, the meat here is constantly dry and the menu items are overpriced. I have not come back since.

This moby dick is worse and worse as time goes on. It used to be ok but now it's bland and over priced. They charge 2 dollars for extra bead and .50 for the spicy green sauce. There food is so plane, if you want real kabob then go to kabob palace in crystal city it's open 24 hours and always packed for a reason, even if u go at 4 am it's packed. Moby dicks ground kabob sandwich is so skinny with meat all you taste is the bread and veggies and the chicken is always undercooked. I wouldn't recommend moby dick to anyone. It's a disgrace to real middle Eastern food.

I love going to this place for lunch. The shopping center it's in is nearly impossible to navigate during lunchtime, but if you CAN find a spot (or even get into the lot, for that matter), try Moby Dick's. The food is simple and tasty, with generous portions. The staff is neutral, at best, but since it's counter service, who cares. My favorite is the chicken kabob, with rice. Yeah, it's 10,000 carbs, but it's a nice departure from the typical near-work lunch game.

They have my favorite hummus in the world. Their pita bread is fabulous as well. I recomend the beef and rice plate. The amount of taste that one gets from their food is ten times better than the price of it. Amazing value.

    (5)
  • Megan B.

Easily the best kabobs in the area that I have come across. Their naan is out of this world and the perfect amount of toughness to it. It tastes great dipped in their awesome yogurt sauce. The rice is so good and perfectly seasoned. I love the chicken kabobs but my absolute favorite is the Chenjeh. The steak filet pieces are always tender and so full of flavor. I get the Chenjeh platter which comes with kabob meat, rice, naan, salad, and sauce for less than $10 including tax. It is a total steal. I have visited many Moby Dick locations and they have all proven to be 5-star worthy. This one is no exception!

  • Irene F.

2.75 stars. I will never understand why people flock here. The pita bread is good-I will give them that. But they are expensive, the people are rude and just awful. The service is slow- and they aren't even serving you!! It's just slow to even get your food. But if you don't pick it up immediately when they call you- boy will they give you attitude! The yogurt sauce is gross btw. If you're in Rockville- go about 10 min out to Yetka. They are super nice, the kabobs are unbelievably moist, and the restaurant is beautiful inside. For the same prices and they keep bringing out the bread. Unlike Moby's who is soooo stingy with the bread!!

You make my meal so yum Your white meat chunks are flavorsome And every time I gnaw, I grin I'm such a happy individual The marinade's not weak Piquant and moist - YAY, this I seek! I want to sate and hum a tune Feel like a big balloon Yogurt, I... Taste mint herbs first then tart pops Creamy three ounce is mellow Dipping up sauce with warm bread - oops, drops You make my meal so yum Soft chewy bread, they're made fresh how wholesome Swell, happy tongue and of course I did not leave a crumb And even though there's one my way I'm gonna make the drive just like today 'Cause you make my meal so yum . . . . I probably wouldn't go again. $10 for bread, a few pieces of chicken, half a tomato, and a soda? It went for a weekday lunch, but I'd rather not spend 10 minutes trying to park at Fallsgrove and then waiting for 20 minutes for my food. The chicken (joojeh kabob) was delicious and very flavorful, but not particularly memorable or outstanding. The bread also had great texture, but wasn't very flavorful without the yogurt. I guess you do get a whole sheet of bread, but by the end it was just a chore to eat. I've had better bread elsewhere. I realize this is apples and oranges, but if you're trying to get a quick, filling, yummy lunch on a workday, just go to Chipotle, even if their line is out the door.

If you want quick and very good quality middle eastern cuisine this place is for you. Good prices and large portions. I enjoyed the atmosphere inside and it was clean. I suggest the gyro Platter if your first time. If your looking for a good deal get a gyro. Ask for yogurt sauce, very good.

Persian cuisine is one of my favorite foods to eat. Interestingly, moby dicks food is consistent at all locations unlike every other establishment. Definitely would recommend to eat there for lunch sometime.

Moby Dick is a great persian fast food chain. I go to a lot other DMV locations. This particular Fallsgrove location is an absolute joke compared to other locations. I usually place orders for pick up and almost always they get the order wrong. It's almost as if they are playing a prank. The staff is rude. It's unfortunate that this location represent the moby dick brand (for 20 years). I'm a loyal customer of moby dick and falls grove is my closest location but I'll gladly go out of my way to another moby dick location so that I don't have to deal with the poor service at Fallsgrove.

The food and service has gone downhill! I used to frequent this location because it was so close to work and home. Well- no more. I have noticed that the food is not as fresh as it used to be and the service is down right HORRIBLE! All of this coincides with the fact that the older gentleman is gone and the lady has been there more. I was there last week for dinner with some friends and I ordered steak and rice. The steak was good, but the rice tasted like dirt. It was disgusting! I echo the reviews of others when they say to double check your order before you leave because they will frequently leave stuff out (EVEN THOUGH YOU PAID FOR IT!) When I arrived yesterday to pick up a call ahead order, the bread was hard and cold. I asked the lady to give me a fresh one and she acted like I asked her to personally make it (complete with sour face). I asked for the spicy green sauce and she told me I had to pay for it! None of the other Moby Dicks I go to charge for this. My friend ordered the salad with chicken and they didn't give her salad dressing. The lady at the front counter needs a lesson in customer service skills and could benefit from smiling. It might lighten her attitude up a bit. Do yourself a favor and don't go to this location. The Kentlands location is awesome and SO much nicer and fresher food!

Great, simple, and reasonably affordable. Quick service, lots of healthy options that still taste great.

Seasoned and cooked very well. Rice is okay. A bit pricey

i love this place. its out the way for me so i dont get to go often but when i do i love it. the parking lot gets packed because its in a shopping center with chipotle, wow wings, panera, mama lucia, and shoppers. i get the chicken kabob with rice when i go. the bread with the dipping sauce is very addictive. there is a good amount of seating but sometimes gets busy. staff is pretty decent.

  • Rachel S.

I really like the chicken kabob with rice platter here but I'm giving 1 star because of a few reasons: 1. They increased their prices and didn't update them on their website - it's over $10 for a chicken kabob with rice 2. They took off the kid's menu 3. Their portion sizes decreased SUBSTANTIALLY 4. They came up with a rewards card that clearly says for every MEAL you get a sticker, but everytime I go in there and pick up more than 1 meal, they try to only give me 1 sticker ... 5. They don't seem to really give a rat's a$$ about you - they are mean and rude I found their recipe online and since I don't eat their bread, I hope to not return again.

The food is great and never worse than good. 1 star is deducted for the semi-stupid people who work there and the not so cheap prices on some dishes. However, if you are looking for good middle eastern food in about 15 minutes or less, this is your place. I have been about a dozen times and it is pretty consistently delicious and they have great gyros!

  • Puja L.

If you're in a rush - call ahead, because these guys take forever to give you food. It's NOT really fast food. I've had a few of the kabobs (fish and chicken) and have NOT been impressed. But, the gyros are sooooooooo good! We're careful not to overdo it, because we could easily get sick of them - but for now this is one of the few places that we regularly CRAVE food from. The falafel is a passable vegetarian alternative (I'm not vegetarian, but order them from time to time) but nothing beats their gyros! Definitely ask for the spicy green sauce (if you can handle a bit of heat) - it makes the food even more spectacular. They're usually really stingy with the stuff, so you sometimes have to press them to give you more than one container for four people! (we usually go through at least one per person, but we love it a bit too much)

One of my favorite restaurants. Great Iranian food. I love the chicken and rice platter. Sumac is great on top of it. They cook the chicken perfectly and the rice with the chicken tastes delicious. Also love the bread and yogurt sauce they serve. Very good food and I highly recommend this restaurant. The people who work here are friendly and it does not take long to get your food.

I came here four times last week - it's evident that I'm a fan. Price: ~$9 for the chicken (joojeh) & rice option. A little on the higher end, but they give you a huge portion that lasts me 2 meals. Food: I always opt for the chicken & rice, which comes out nice and hot. Everything is cooked to order, so it takes 10-15 minutes for it to be prepared, but it's well worth it. The chicken is marinated and spiced with great herbs, and comes in six little kabob-like balls. The rice is a combination of butter, oil, cheese, and other spices - I could eat this rice all day long. The meal comes with two cubes of tomatoes, a large piece of naan, and a cup of white yogurt sauce. The yogurt sauce is light and tasty - I like to dip my naan and chicken into it. The naan isn't spectacular - sometimes not warm and too hard. Service: The ambiance is very casual, but the cashiers and employees are always very friendly and helpful. They also don't make fun of me when I grossly mispronounce the names of the items on the menu. Bottom Line: Get the chicken and rice! So delicious. If you're in a rush, call ahead because it can take 10-15 minutes to prepare.

Seriously, my experience at this Moby Dick's on Saturday night was fantastic. I cannot hide my undying love for Moby's chicken kabobs, so I won't even try. When I visited, the place was pretty busy, but service was very quick and our food was STEAMING HOT. Everything was good - the bread, the chicken, the rice. It was a great meal at a great price that really hit the spot!

I went for he first time looking for a gyro. I have to say this is not the place to go. There were two (MAYBE three) slices of meat on the sandwich, and the bread was tough. Aside from that, I enjoyed it. The aside being the yogurt sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, onion (Generous, and I was definitely a fan!) and feta. The service was so-so, I had an important call as I came in (If any of the staff sees this, I apologize for being on the phone during check out, it was very rude of me) and didn't say much other than my order to my cashier. It was also around 9-10 PM, and people get run ragged through the day. Would I go back? Perhaps. I'm hoping anything else they have is better than what I got.

My how the mighty have fallen. Ordered takeout and received: Swordfish - it was so salty that the taste of old fish was overpowered. Kubideh - one tiny, gray length of what tasted like boiled hamburger with dehydrated onions, with a salad of iceberg and one olive, tasteless rice and bread that felt and tasted like frozen pizza dough. Falaffel - saltier than the fish on dry tasteless pita with iceberg lettuce and, I think, some feta. Cucumber yogurt dip - watery and spoiled, perhaps because it was made when the country was still Persia! Most amazing of all - lots of customers! Speaks highly for a culture that calls McDonald's a restaurant!

The food is good here, really good. But the parking lot is severely annoying. And it's crazy crazy busy at lunchtime. Last time I went I waited about 30 mins for food, only to find out it had been sitting behind the counter getting cold (despite the fact that I'd been up to the counter THREE times while I was waiting and it was waiting and kept getting told it wasn't up yet). It's still really good food, though. Lots of veg options. I would have stopped here for lunch if I had an extra 30 mins for parking/lines/waiting for my order.

YUM...The food is amazing! I'm Persian and this is the best Persian food you can get next to moms cooking. The rice, kabob....wow always delicious and it's fast food that you can sit in or take out. Secret: order the bread that's made in the traditional fire kilm with hummus.

With the choices of food lacking in the area, Moby Dick's is one of my go-to places in the area. The Kabob-E Joojeh (chicken) with rice is delicious!! It comes with half a side of pita bread. Eat the bread fast because it gets hard when it's cold. Rice portions are humongous and I really should try to exercise portion control but I don't. I don't really care for the yogurt-y sauce but love the green jalapeno sauce! I usually get extra with some extra feta cheese. The staff is really nice but I have to agree with some other reviews in that they are really slow in getting you your food! Sometimes my order just sits in the kitchen for 10+ minutes waiting to be packed up while the staff just sits around doing nothing. -1 for service

What!!?!? I can eat in DC for under $10 and get a soda too??!!?!? OMG! Heheh .. Came here for an early dinner and the food was great. I had the the beef kabob plate which comes with a salad, rice and pita bread. Beef was juicy, the rice was fluffy, salad was tasty, and the pita bread was warm and addicting. I loved it! Only problem was that place is too small to eat in. Long lines too but everyone seems to order take out =)

Have to agree with the other reviewer who said the people who work there are obnoxious. Walked up to the door at 8:30 only to be turned away by a rude and obnoxious guy who made weird faces at us. Apparently they were closing even though closing time was 9pm. We don't need ugly faces, and weird hand signals. All you had to do was say "Sorry, we're closing early tonight." I'm assuming that's not too difficult for anyone to do? Completely turned us off and won't be back.

Though this is a chain, they have pretty good chicken kabobs with basmati rice. I get this every time and it's delicious. I still prefer those family run smaller places for ethnic foods as they are simply more authentic to me. This place is pretty clean and the service is decent.

Like a hump on a snowhill... Best kabob chain in DC, consistent too.

For under $8, a Kabob-E Kubideh here is a truly ridiculous amount of food. Cooked to order, these sausage-looking hunks of juicy meat-n-onion are served along with a half a roasted tomato on a hunk of fluffy bread large enough to smother a grown man. Located in the Fallsgrove plaza, you actually have to enter the plaza from Fallsgrove, from the looks of it. Once inside, there's a Safeway and a whole host of every kind of service and chain restaurant you can imagine, from Chipotle to Krispy Kreme. Ahh, welcome to the burbs. Of random note, they offer the Tehran Post for free in their foyer. It appears to be scribed in some Arabic language. I've not encountered this at other Moby Dick's, so if you're interested in news from the Middle East, you might stop in here to pick one up. Oh. And best part of the meal? The greasy bread directly under where your kabob is sitting. Mm. Artery-clogging delight! NB: They don't accept AmEx. Sadness.

Went tonight and have gone a few times in the past. I got the sword fish kabob with rice. I was treated very nicely by the front counter people. I have noticed the staff can be a little short at times. Expensive $15 for a kabob and rice. The bread wasnt very good and sour dipping sauce wasn't that great. I liked the fish as it was cooked perfect. The rice was bland this time but has been really good in the past. Just average overall experience.

Chicken tastes good! Got the platter that they recommended. Comes with naan & rice. I don't like the salad dressing tho. Overall three stars.

Pretty good food! The service stinks... you order at a counter from the most obnoxious, uncaring, unresponsive people I have ever encountered then wait for your food to carry it back to your table. The food was good though. I had the lamb kabob platter which came with homemade pita bread (so-so), a salad, and basmati rice. Plenty of food at a reasonable price.

  • Chris B.

this place is awesome! a little expensive for causal dining but worth the bold taste. love the lamb and beef kebab with that delicious buttery rice. the flavor of the meat is pronounced and the meat itself it high end and tender. the hummus is balanced with no overwhelming flavors like you get at the grocery store. the only negative is the bread is often stale. the real secret is to make sure you ask for the green sauce. it is spicy and can literally be put on anything on the restaurant to add kick and flavor. definitely check it out!

I ordered chicken with bread and my cousin ordered fish with salad. The food overall was good except the wait was a little long. I guess it's lunch time so it's quite busy. I love the bread that came with my chicken.

I always get the homemade dough. I recommend the combos. As good as or above average for a Moby dick location.

Great food for a great price. Granted I came down from NYC and everything out in Kings Farm is roughly 50% of the price, but this was truly great food for a great price! Saturday night I went over to my friends house in Kings Farm. When Moby Dick's was suggested I was the only one that did not know how good this place actually was till I tried it. I got the mixed platter with a salad. So much food and so good. I tried some of the rice off of a friends plate as well as the bread and they were exceptionally good as well. All in all for $50 dollars we fed 4 people and everyone left food no their plate. Leftover food was of no testament of the quality of food. Simple goodness!

Service is excellent and the food hits the spot. This is Persian style food, but it is rather Americanized (sp?). However, they are extremely friendly at this location! This is ins't fast food, therefore you will have to wait for your food to actually cook. 3.5 Stars really

The Germantown Moby Dick's is better than the Moby Dick's in the Falls Grove shopping center on Shady Grove Rd. On Wednesdays, they have a lunch special where they give you beef, lentils, and a couple strips of eggplant, plus rice. If you order from the Germantown Moby Dick's, they will put the beef and lentils into a cup, and place the 2 strips of eggplant onto the rice. But if you order from the Falls Grove Moby Dick's, then they will try to rip you off by putting the 2 strips of eggplant into the cup, which leaves less room for beef. Also (at all Moby's locations), they put a bunch of hardened crispy rice on top of the regular rice. I'm not sure who eats that - it's too brittle and doesn't taste good at all, plus I'd be worried I might break a tooth (yes, it's that hard). Finally, don't think you're eating healthy food here. Their rice tastes good for a reason - it's oily and most likely is cooked in butter.

One of the most delicious kebabs I've tried before.

    (5)
  • Robyn F.

Moby Dick's has pretty decent kebobs, and I was impressed to find good ethnic cuisine in the suburbs. It's still a fast food chain though (and a slow one at that), so I only gave it 3 stars. Food - I tried out the Kebob-E Chenjeh (chunks of tenderloin) with rice. It also comes with bread and salad sauce. I wasn't blown away by this dish, though I liked the rice. My companion got a combo for only a couple dollars more and got twice the meat -- a combination of the Kabob-E Kubideh (grilled sirloin) and Kabob-E Joojeh (chicken), which was a lot better than my dish. When in doubt, get the combo. You get twice as much meat, and you get to sample different kebobs. Downside - We had a coupon for a free appetizer, but they forgot to add it to our order. Oh well.

  • Greg P.

Turkish food? Not at all. Very popular location, but the food doesn't live up to the hype. You never know what quality food will come out of the kitchen. Joojeh was bad and smelled like manure this time. Hummus is the only consistently good item.

    (2)
  • Jen L.

A lot of people seem to like this place. However, this is one of those places where I just don't get the hype. This restaurant chain isn't cheap and the portion sizes are small. The lamb is pretty good, but is sometimes not juicy like I prefer. Sigh, the buttery rice is the only redeeming quality to this chain.

    (3)
  • Kevin I.

I was very impressed with the food. Lots of tasty and health conscious food for a great price, enough said.

    (5)
  • Y L.

I love Persian food, and Moby Dick's HoK is no exception! While I respect Robyn's experience below, one can only do so much with beef tenderloin (chenjeh) chunks, which are inherently flavorless. You've got to go for the koubideh (ground beef and lamb with spices) or the joojeh (their tender, juicy chicken chunks), each of which has a lot more flavor (and the koubideh has more fat, which again, lends more flavor). The bread and dipping yogurt sauce is a bit bland, so go for the rice.

    (4)
  • Jay K.

This place is very good. The bread with cucumber dip is tasty and unique and all the meats are pretty delicious. The rice that comes with the combo is also delicious and with the meat is very good. The price is also very good for the amount and quality of food being given. Overall, this is a great place to eat.

    (4)
  • Ryan N.

Every time I come here I always get good quality food and always have a hard time choosing because I have enjoyed every menu item I have tried. The store is clean but I will agree that the employees have an attitude at times. If you don't walk in and go straight to the counter to order (without looking at the menu) they act like you are causing them all kinds of problems and walk away from the register. Use some patience!
