The good: Price ($6sh for lunch special), portion & the conveniency (10 mins for take out, lots of parking available). The bad: Almost everything else. The food's very americanized & greasy. You can't see the chicken in Orange Chicken, it's mostly breading. The Pepper Steak w/ Onion's filled with mostly onion; It got really gross after awhile... Conclusion - I'd only come here when I'm desperate for food, in a hurry or low in cash.

6 months later I'm doing a follow up visit. Very good Seasame Chicken with nice flavors. Typical takeout place with not much room to sit and eat. Open kitchen and front door is hard to pull open. They labeled thr front door problem but never fixed it. Lunch special a good deal comes with soup and if you want an egg roll it's $0.50 extra. It's a good place to eat, I would not drive out of my way to eat here.

This is my overall favorite Chinese takeout place in the Rockville area. I have tried a whole lot of them and this is the one I come back to over and over. The quality of the beef and chicken is always good. My favorites are the Kung Pao and General Tsao's chicken.

I live in the neighborhood and I go here often. It's fast and plentiful. It's your basic Chinese / Americanize food. It's not the best but what do you want from fast food? Egg drop soup is bland. Since its fast food, it's up to you to get condiments, napkins, chopstick and fortune cookies on the way out. I grab 3 cookies and they never care. It makes me happy. When they say ready in 10 minutes, it's usually less and waiting for you all bagged up. There are 3-4 tables and the cans of soda available are over $1 a piece. I skip the drink.

I tried their buddhist delight ( vegetarian) dish. It was awsome! Must try the rest

I've only been here a couple of times, and on both visits I ordered Singapore noodles to go. The noodles are great, and it's a generous portion.

Maybe it's just because I was especially hungry but I thought the food and service were great. Ordered online to a hotel and it came within an hour. They were out of one type of dessert and called to let me know. When it was delivered the delivery guy piled on fortune cookies. As for the food - the sweet and sour chicken was all white meat and the breading was light and fluffy. The egg drop soup tasted fresh as did the spring rolls and seaweed salad. The biggest surprise was the bread pudding which tasted totally homemade. It's some of the best I've ever had and that's comparing it with New Orleans and other restaurants specializing in the dessert. Would definitely eat there again.

Neighborhood Chinese carryout in the heart of KingFarm in Rockville. Good solid Chinese fare. Love the hot and sour soup, wonton soup, vegetable spring rolls, hunan chicken and kung pao chicken. Every now and I'll try something different that isn't as good as some of the standards (recently had the General Tso's Bean curd which was overly sweet) but that's not the case for the Singapore Chow Mei Fun. Thin, flavorful rice noodles with a variety of chicken, pork, seafood and vegetables. Good stuff! Staff always very friendly, quick and accommodating. Will definitely be back.

I wish we found this place sooner, so we could've saved ourselves some $ and gas from having to go all the way to Mama Wok (Gaithersburg). Only found out about Eastern Cafe because they delivered a carry-out menu to our house. Pretty much had almost everything on their menu. I wish they were consistent with their hot & sour soup. Sometimes it has too much vinegar, sometimes too much hot sauce... Their honey chicken is not that good. Do NOT get their pan fried noodles. The noodles are not the same. It's the thick fried noodles that you would put in soup, not eat for a dish. We also ordered over $30 to use a coupon, but they didn't honor it through their online ordering. Other than that, you should give this place a try.

Some of the best take-out in the area. Thought not vegetarian myself, their vegetarian options (vegetarian ________ chicken is better than the real chicken).

The standard Take out place... but they have brown rice!

I won't be going again in a hurry. Sesame chicken pretty nasty, Szechuan pork disgusting. Inedible. Friendly and fast service on a Sunday evening. Handy location. Bad food.

Growing up in New York my Chinese food standards are high. This is excellent compared to other stuff I've had in the area. Just mediocre in general. Lunch delivery took about an hour.

I've ordered delivery from Eastern Cafe on two occassions. On both occassions, the food was delivered in a timely manner. The deliver driver was pleasant as well. The food itself is okay. I've tried the eggrolls, boneless spare ribs, Singapore chow mei fun, beef chow fun, and sesame chicken. Definitely your standard American-Chinese food. Of the items I've eaten, the boneless spare ribs were my favorite. Portion size was rather generous as well. My least favorite was the Singapre chow mei fun, but probably because I'm not a fan of curry. They offer lunch specials Monday through Saturday. They also have coupons on their website and on their takeout menu. Overall, Eastern Cafe is an okay option for Chinese food. However, there's definitely better ones in the area. If the weather is bad and most restaurants are closed, this one is probably open. Delivery is free too (within a certain area)!

The food tastes fine. However, It's been twice already that I've ordered off the vegetarian menu (and even specified that I am vegetarian) and found a piece of meat in my food. Nice that they deliver though.

4 stars may seem a little high, but its great for what its meant to be: a neighborhood Chinese takeout joint. Compared to some of the other places in the area, the quality of the takeout it pretty decent and reminds me of the type of takeout I've had growing up in NYC. Service is quick and they speak English. It's no authentic sit down restaurant (ie. Bobs Shanghai or East Pearl in Rockville), but way better then your mall cafeteria Chinese food.

A Chinese joint nice enough to delivery? Color me happy. I must say that having a ton of these is one thing the East Coast has over the West. Delivery got to us in around 30 minutes and was still piping hot. I got the chicken in black bean sauce and it definitely hit the spot without drowning me in sodium. Definitely looking forward to ordering in again when I don't feel like leaving the house in sweatpants (although that rarely happens).

If you are finding yourself with a craving for American style Chinese food this is your place. There are probably more authentic things on the menu but some times you just need the classics. I got the General Tso chicken and boneless BBQ spare ribs and they were great. The ribs I particularly liked and, although very good, the chicken could have been a little more spicy. I also got the egg drop soup which was a little watery but I still enjoyed with those crispy noodles on top! Will be going back for those lazy Friday nights!

Rude and slow. They could care less about your time. They're just walking around aimlessly doing everything else except taking care of the customer. Why should it take 20 minutes to cook chicken and French fries??

The delivery time was quick, but the food was do bland. First and last time I will be ordering.

I ordered the Sechuaun Chicken and Hot and Sour Soup. There are no Sunday lunch specials so I had the full portion dinner size order. The Sechuaun Chicken was unremarkable. Not much flavor other than an odd sweetness. I only ate a few mouthfuls. It was just not that good. The hot and Sour Soup had large chunks of mushrooms, large pieces of tofu in a thin sauce. Though there was some heat, there was just not much flavor. Many HSS in the area have either a peppery heat or a stronger garlic component, but this soup was just bland. This was my first time here. I may look at other recommendations and see if I just didn't order their specialty.

I finally went back to try out their vegetarian/vegan menu options. My fiance ordered the standard chicken with broccoli with a side of egg drop soup and crab rangoons for us to share. I had the vegetarian beef curry with brown rice. We were both pleased. No complaints. The vegetarian beef is made from a combination of sprouts and so it is tasty! It's hard to find good mock meats and I try to avoid eating too much soy. The curry sauce is tasty, but enough sauce but good flavor and spice level. It comes with a ton of onion and green peppers. I added broccoli and I loved it. They also have brown rice so that's a plus! My fiance thought it was standard Chinese take out but liked it because it was fresh and had good flavor. Definitely a lot of MSG though. The portions are HUGE. The prices are reasonable. It's conveniently located within a mile from us. Fortunately, we could walk, drive or order delivery. This time we decided to order online to avoid their not so great customer service. When picking up the food, the service was better but still not the friendliest. Good spot though!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
