The Chinese food is pretty tasty but I've mainly only had their sushi rolls. It's really reasonably priced and always delicious. The staff is not the friendliest and always seems very rushed to get your order out of the way. I've been here so many times that they should know me by now and be a bit nicer but no customer loyalty credit here at all. Also they don't allow you to eat in the carry out box which is something that I thought was weird.

Food is pretty good. Price is not too bad depending on what you order. Service is good, maybe because i'm Asian. One thing that does kinda start bothering me nowadays tho is non-Asians making Asian food. Maybe it's being a little stereotypical, but how do you have an Asian restaurant with Asian people working the front and non-Asians cooking the food?? Maybe it's just me...

This place is pretty good. $20 can feed three people. Tastes good too!

Why does this place get so many stars? It's just OK. Nothing totally extraordinary. I ordered the egg drop soup with corn and chicken because I was totally craving a soup. It was very disappointing. A little bland, and there were maybe 5 pieces of tiny tiny chicken bits, similar to the ones you see in a cup o noodle. We also ordered a large chicken and mixed vegetables. Granted, the portions are big, but the sauce was nothing to rave about. A little boring in my opinion. Came here once before, and we weren't impressed either. Sorry can't remember what we ordered that time, guess it wasn't worth remembering! Oh well. I'll probably give this place another try since it's close to where we live. I'll update when i do!

Came to eat here for the first time in a while and it hasn't changed that much. I think they removed something that used to be by the door that makes it a little bit more spacious and they have some new furniture(I think). But it's still really tight between the tables. This place gives pretty good portions and is a no frills kind of place. It looks like a carry out joint but has some pretty authentic dishes. I tend to go to it if I want to spend little but be full. You'll often see older Chinese empty nesters splitting a dish or grabbing a meal there to save the trouble from cooking. They do sell the fast food type of Chinese food if that's what you want, but I never really tried it. Some of their dishes are on the blander side but the quantity and selection makes up for it. The best items are posted on the wall to the right when you come in, where they now include the English translations as well. The prices have gone up a bit, but that's the case with everything nowadays. They also have someone bussing the tables now who works really hard. So I'm not sure if you're supposed to leave a tip now because it's still mostly self serve in picking your order and getting drinks and utensils. As for the post about non Asians cooking, that's just the way things are these days. There are a number of places with good reviews in this area that have non Asians working in the kitchens or behind the sushi bars.

A quick option for cafeteria style food. No frills, huge portions...don't come here for a fancy meal. I am a fan of the homemade soup noodles--huge portions and the noodles are delicious. 4 stars because the seating is tight and not wheelchair accessible.

The good things here is the services are nice and the food is really a lot. But according to my experience around this area's Chinese restaurant, I think their taste is worst. Several attractive dishes I try is really disappointed. I would say if you want a lot of food, go here. If you want tasty food, not here

Not the cleanest looking restaurant but they do serve up some delicious, flavorful food. . We ordered the vegetable delight and General's Tso's chicken. Both dishes came with rice and it was delicious. No complaints and enough left over for a meal the next day. We also had a small egg drop soup, which later we wished we ordered a larger one because it was that good! Simple soup with great flavors.

Cheap and delicious sushi! I love the California Rolls and the Salmon Rolls. Also their soup bowls are giant, cheap ($10) and could feed a family of 4!!

This is my favorite Chinese fast food place in the area. I love their braised whole fish and DaLu noodle soup. The noodles are handmade and very satisfying to sink your teeth in. The only improvement I like to recommend is to offer brown rice.

The food is decently what you expect from strip-mall Chinese food. The counter service is equally ok. The portions are enormous. My hungry teenage nephew is thrilled with his Szechuan noodle soup. I'm happy that I have veggies and brown rice. There are three menus - sushi, Americanized Chinese, less-Americanized Chinese. Take your pick. Been here twice this week because it's convenient for a visiting traveller, not worth going out of the way, but if you're here and hungry this is a good choice.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in the area. I'm a frequent customer. Surprisingly, their sushi is very fresh and generous portions and absolutely yummy. My go-to order is always: - Salmon Special: 6 giant sushi pieces, 6 giant slices of sashimi - Broil California Roll: it's a jumbo Cali roll topped with REAL crab meat and sauces and tons of tobiko - Dried Tofu with Pork: it slices of dried tofu and pork with jalepenos stir fried The sushi comes with miso soup. They have Americanized Chinese food and authentic Chinese cookings along with a full Japanese menu from edamame, to teriyaki, to sushi. This place is awesome and I frequently go every week. I highly recommend you check it out and don't be dissuaded by its location.

Been coming here for years. Top notch prices and for what they charge they give you alot of food. They keep it authentic and simple. Love it. If you're looking for recommendations, try the da lu noodle soup. The noodles are made from scratch and the broth isnt too salty.

I find that the recipe for great Chinese food is like a lot like a Hot Escort (Not that I know about Escorts, only from what you see from late night Skin-a-Max). The best ones give you a lot of bang for your buck. They are all the same so you just need to pick one. And the more you frequent, you are known as a regular and get the hook up ;). Granted there are some Chinese places that are just plain crap but those are the like the street walker hookers......you can see them coming from a mile away. Im talking about the whole in the wall Chinese places that you only hear about from word of mouth. Now I would have given them 5 stars, but this place does not deliver :(. What kind of Chinese food place does not deliver. That's like if Abercrombie didn't hire douchey High School Bros. Anyways, I discovered this place one day when I was roaming the streets of Rockville. It looked promising enough and the prices were just right. After deciding on my usual General Tso's Chicken and some Noodle type soup, I discovered the true brilliance of this place. They serve portion sizes that challenge even the most accomplished Sumo Wrestler. THEY ARE HUGE!! The noodle arrived to us in a bowl that could literally fit my entire head and my girlfriends entire head....and we have big noggins. On top of everything their food is fantastic. Better than basically every other overpriced Chinese place around the area. Deciding that this is going to be my go to place I realized that I needed to try the sushi. I am a huge fan of good sushi at a reasonable price. They have more than just reasonable prices, they are some of the cheapest sushi around, that delivers great no frills sushi. I don't remember the last time I could go get sushi and fill up for less than 15 bucks. Needless to say, they have a new fan and I will certainly be coming back for more sushi and more Chinese food. Friendly tip: The Medium is more than enough to feed 2-3 people. The large is meant for people that need to feed a whole village. Stick to the medium for most things.

Based on the comments maybe my expectations were high. I ordered the crispy beef and it tasted like it was coated in flour after they cooked it. The texture of grainy flour over meat was not good - I couldn't eat it, so having a lot makes no difference.

Reliable and tasty chinese food. Homemade noodle dishes are one of the highlights here. They have had the same chef and owner for over 20 years. Unfortunately they do not deliver but they are centrally located in Rockville which makes carry out an easy drive down 355. In my opinion, a mark of a good chinese restaurant is the quality and taste of their Hot&Sour soup and the one served here is one of the best. Keep up the great work.

Food tastes great and not as greasy as DMV chinese food. Ordered orange chicken (lunch specials) and spicy salty squid, costs around 20$ but the portion was huge. The place is clean and bright. Definitely will come back.

Their sushi's are pretty good. Worth the try. I think Taipei Tokyo have a fancier presentation of their sushi

This is NOT your typical Chinese take-out restaurant despite what some of the reviewers say. While the usual Americanized Chinese dishes vary in quality from average to very good, the standout dishes are the amazing noodle soups, offering a choice of noodles, including in-house hand-pulled noodles. The portions of the noodle soups are enough to feed one person for three meals! The broth is completely delicious and flavorful. My favorite is the chicken or pork with snow cabbage that comes loaded with those wonderful homemade noodles, cooked perfectly, and lots of chicken or pork. I've also tried the kung pao chicken just for variety and found it well beyond the neighboring competition. I've also tried the spicy crispy pork chops which are great both in quality and quantity. Look on the wall for the specials and use those as a guide for what to order. It's true the decor is somewhat lacking, but the food more than makes up for it. Bottom line - great prices for great portions, try something other than what you usually order at a Chinese takeout!

For a broke college student with an expensive sushi habit, China Taste is a natural fit. While it's not the best sushi, it's darn good for the price.

This place is undiscovered, except by locals. Small strip shopping center in between a dry cleaner and a liquor store. You would never even notice this place. Cops eat here. I see my neighbors here. I looked it up on Google maps...and came up blank. Not even Google Maps recognizes this place!! So is this an underdog? I have eaten here several times, always Chinese food, never sushi. How good can sushi be from a Chinese restaurant. One night last week my family wanted sushi. I grabbed one of our paper carryout menus and ordered sushi and one Chinese dish. I actually intended to order from a similar Chinese/Sushi place across the street, where we have ordered carryout many times, so much so that I know what the sushi will taste like before eating a bite. But I grabbed the wrong menu. When I arrived I realized my mistake, so I got the food I ordered, and returned home. PS the food was ready really fast, way faster than the place across the street. Wow! The sushi was way better than I expected, way above my imagined taste. The Chinese dish also really good. Family loved it. I was the hero. So I thought, got be an anomaly. One time good. So, last night I tried it again. Ordered different sushi and different Chinese. Really good. Good sushi, good Chinese. And really fast, a few minutes. I'm coming back. Love this place. Fast, efficient, good value. Highly recommended.

I came here for lunch one day and was surprised at how expensive it was: $9 without tax for sesame chicken, egg drop soup, and white rice? Jeez, granted, it was a lot of food. However, I was not impressed with the food. The sesame chicken just lacked "umph": it was not memorable, it did not make me want to come back. Imagine fried chicken pieces, sauce, and sesame seeds for decoration, flanked with broccoli. The egg drop soup came in a big bowl but egg drop soup has a simple taste. The worst part of my experience was that their water glasses are disgusting. People use the plastic glasses for hot tea, which has left the plastic water glasses in some semi-melted and reformed state. The water tasted like it had egg in it and yes, it tasted like this before I even had some soup.

I am only reviewing this restaurant for the sushi. The portions are very generous, especially when it comes to the sashimi. I have not been to a sushi bar where you can get so much sashimi for this price. Unlike a lot of other sushi bars, there isn't an overwhelmng amount of rice on the rolls. The sushi is also always fresh and delicious. This is definitely my favorite afordable sushi restaurant. Note: During lunch hours, you can get 2 different rolls (total of 16 pieces) and a miso soup for under $7. On a side note, the restaurant itself is nothing to special. It's very basic. Don't let the lack of decor detere you. If you are all hoity toity, just order your sushi to go. It's worth it!

Best Sushi restaurant in the area. Perfect for pick up and bringing home. Great California and Philadelphia rolls and the best fried salmon skin roll I've ever had.

  • Kathy C.

They give enormous portions, at least for the noodle soups. A trip with a friend here on a rainy day is perfect. The texture of the tuna in their sushi roll is similar to baby food, I wouldn't recommend it. Try the smoked salmon roll!

I used to work right across the street from this place, and my coworker and I would come here for lunch. We always intended to try different menu items, but kept coming back to two of the first dishes we tried: Cashew Chicken and Chicken and Broccoli! Both are soooo good. The Cashew Chicken is my personal favorite. Both dishes are economical and very appetizing-looking!! They play top 40 music in the restaurant and there's a good amount of seating. Staff is pretty friendly, too! I would drive 20 minutes to visit this place again.

Lunch Review: This place came highly recommended for their sushi & Chinese food. We ordered the California Roll, Hunan Beef, Shrimp Noodle Udon Soup, and Homemade Iced Tea. The California rolls were good, reasonably priced, but not rolled well. The hunan beef was caked in sauce and the fried rice tasted super oily. The shrimp noodle soup was the only thing worth getting, mostly because the veggies were fresh and not soggy and it came out hot. Self-serve...food comes out quick. Portions are huge...I would say each item can feed 2 people instead of 1. They have a great location and I'm sorry, for an Asian, this place did not pass.

My go to sushi spot. The only thing I've ever had that wasn't excellent we're the fried veggie dumplings. Everything else is great.

This place is cheap, fast, and standard. There aren't any highlights to the food as is apparent in the decor and the nature of the joint. It's quick and convenient. Portions are large and filling. I do not think anyone ever leaves here hungry. Check out the menu against the wall to your right as you walk in, then step to the register and order. Get a ticket and wait for your food. It's pretty standard and simple, just like the food. Oh yeah, and free hot tea is always a plus.

  • Eugene H.

ah the food here is pretty bad, but it is cheap and you get ginormous portions...so if you want a lot of bad chinese food, then this is the place.

Customers order at the counter; the staff passes out little square chips of cardboard with a handwritten number scribbled on the back. Customers wait a few minutes for their numbers to be called. "Number 9...Number 9" Ahh, my food is ready!! Then, the food appears on a cafeteria tray at the front counter. Usually, there is a plate of General Tso's chicken on a tray, an oversized bowl of beef noodle soup, or a heaping pile of fried rice waiting for someone. I have come here on-and-off to eat the fried rice. I typically order the combination fried rice and tell them that I don't want any beef (so, I settle for just chicken and shrimp). While the rice is stir fried extremely well, the beef that they use is cut into long strips, a bit tough for my liking...and, it tends not to blend in well with the rice. On any given day, looking around the dining room, one will see many customers eating heaping plates of fried rice....shrimp fried rice, chicken fried rice, combination fried rice. Yes, for some reason, they do fried rice very well here. And, it is not necessarily non-Chinese or non-Asian customers who order fried rice. While there may be a Hispanic customer digging into his, in the opposite end of the restaurant, a decidedly Chinese patron may be indulging in his own plate of fried rice (perhaps, indulging in a bit of assimilation as well and not wanting to admit that this Americanized stuff really is pretty good here). However, I have indulged in other specialities as well. Another mainstay for me is chicken stir fried with dry bean curd. They cut their chicken into long strips and stir fry it with strands of pressed dry bean curd. Tossed in with the mix are slices of jalapeno peppers. The final product is quite zippy and a real pleasure. The Singapore Noodles are decent here too--though, it is not the best that I have had (a bit too damp...but, serviceable). So, I typically do not order this here. Once, I ordered their "whole fish in brown sauce." The price seemed right, and it was a chance to sample something a bit more complex. But, the fish was smelly and not fresh at all. God only knows how long it had been tucked away in the kitchen refrigerator. It is not like they have fish tanks set up like a Cantonese seafood restaurant. Of course, it was fried; but, the lack of freshness could not be masked (nor could the "brown sauce" jazz up the stale fish). I have never ordered the fish in brown sauce again. As for the "Tokyo Express" part of their moniker, I have not really explored that part of who they are (nothing beyond a simple order of California rolls). The sushi here has never really attracted me or caught my eye. The California rolls, however, that I did try were agreeable but nothing spectacular. I do not make China Taste a dining destination. Somehow, it just pops up like a figure in a pop-up book (as a testament to cheap eats).

I had the Kung pao shrimp. one of the shrimp had a shell on it. the vegetables and shrimp were so so. overall, bland taste. I will go across the street to china garden house for much better Chinese food.

I've enjoyed food from China Taste before, but this past time around I was quite underwhelmed. I had the handmade noodles (combination). The portion was as huge as ever, but the taste was rather lacking. My wife had the beef noodle soup with spinach. The broth was underwhelming, but what made it worse was a sizeable piece of plastic wrap that she found in her soup. Not good.

When I think of sushi, I think of China Taste. I love their Tuna Crunch & Salmon Crunch. The place is very simple and could definitely hiring an interior designer, but they are probably working hard to provide solid sushi at affordable prices to be worrying about that. I always have a solid sushi lunch/dinner here, and find myself coming here very often.

  • Jenn K.

China Taste is non-descript, utilitarian, and efficient. Sometimes, that's all you need in a meal - I've never strayed from their California roll special, which is cheap and filling and surprisingly tasty, but when my family comes, the giant-ass bowl of noodle soup is usually what gets ordered. Sometimes you just need competent food - and their specials (on paper near the entrance) do the job - they're cheap, tasty, and more importantly, a lot of food. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but usually if 495/270 traffic is bad and I'm heading home, this is the place for me to stop in Rockville.

  • Ronnie P.

Tofu with sesame sauce was too sweet. My friend's curried mixed veggies with tofu was not very tasty. How can a curry not be tasty? Clearly this place has its roots in carry-out as the dining area is a somewhat hectic after-thought. I'd almost up their stars to three for offering brown rice and generous portions.

    (2)
  • Alicia R.

China Taste/Tokyo Express loses a star because they don't deliver. Their Chinese is good, always satisfies that craving. Their sushi isn't bad, maybe even better than Rolls and Rice, with better pricing as well. Good stuff, solid four stars.

Always ask for white meat if you get the chicken! This place is know in the are for clean Chinese food! I like the Hunan chicken here, shrimp with the lobster sauce, and lo mein. They also have shushi but I have yet to try it!

I must have driven past this place at least two hundred times before I even noticed it. It's tucked into a small four shop strip mall. It's in close proximity to other Chinese Restaurants (Kenny's Sup Shop and China Garden) so I never imagined all three of them could survive for so long but they have. The portion sizes are huge. Most entrees are clearly meant to be shared but that didn't stop my three friends and I from ordering things individually. Their drinks are standard (though like the other two Chinese restaurants, they have homemade iced tea and lemonade which I found odd but enjoyable). One friend ordered the Bento Box which he said was standard but everything was done right. Another ordered the Moo Goo Gai Pain because he was trying to be healthy but said it was surprisingly good. They both got sushi (California and Spicy Tuna rolls) and said it was good. But it was my third friend that had problems. He ordered the wontons which I believe were suppose to be a special of some sort at the time. They were filled with beef which was incredibly tough. I'm talking beef jerky tough. Either they were deep-fried leftovers or were left in way too long. He also ordered the Sesame Beef which (he thought) couldn't go wrong but once again was really tough. The sauce tasted very good when poured onto the (somewhat dry) white rice that came with everything. But in the end he said he wouldn't come back so it wasn't enough. I ordered something I never had before which was a Tomato and Egg over rice dish. The eggs were moist and were mixed in with some onions. One friend who had gotten the dish in Hong Kong said it tasted exactly the same and (hopefully) authentic as a result. I personally LOVE both eggs and tomatoes so really enjoyed it. I had to add some salt, pepper, and sriracha but I never mind doing that when the condiments are readily there. Long story short, 3 out of 4 of us would go back. Some things are clearly better than others but it is definitely worth a short if you've never been. The sushi is good and the dishes you wouldn't normally get seem to be a step above others.

Bland and cheap food. Been here many times to eat as I work right near it but I have not found anything that I would want to eat twice. It is cheap and the portions are big. But it is so bland or strange tasting that you wont want to finish it all.

  • Evan H.

From the outside looking in, one might say, that place looks horrible, who would eat there. Those people have never been inside, or they'd change their tune. The prices are excellent, portions are huge and they have pretty respectable sushi. Ive always wondered why they use disposable numbers for your order, even when its empty, but that is their style. I love the sushi and they have good lunch specials with a couple rolls and soup. The crispy fish is a great deal, as are almost all of the noodle soups.

Now, to be fair, I'm giving this establishment 5 stars for what they do best in my opinion: noodle soups, on the back of the menu pamphlet. Giant, giant bowls of noodle soups, which are super filling and comforting without making you feel gross. Looking for something rich or spicy? Their beef noodle is hearty (though perhaps not as flavorful as some I've had), and their lamb soup has a sheen of rosy chili oil that chases away the coldest winter nights. Looking for clear soothing broths when you want to feel healthy, or just rehydrate? Their seafood (or combo pork-beef without seafood) noodle soup has plenty of veggies and tender strips of meat bathed in a light, delicate broth that I guzzle down like water. Their lovely chewy hand-made noodles are different from the ones at A&J down the street. A little cruder, a little meatier, shall we say. (Protip: if you're not going to finish your leftovers immediately, store the noodles in a separate container from the soup, so the noodles don't absorb all the soup and swell into a soft and soggy mess overnight.) I never bother with the Americanized dishes listed above the checkout counter, and always go for the noodly goods, so perhaps they're not as strong in the other dishes. But this is one of my go-to Chinese noodle-soup places, and that's what I love them for. Their sushi is also decent; not spectacular, but reasonable for the prices. Next time I'm going to try the crispy whole fish just for kicks, but I know I'll be back the next time I want some hearty, northern Chinese-portion tang mian!

How does this place have less than 4 stars? The food is great! Not greasy or dripping in corn syrup. The lady at the register isn't nice, but who cares. I love the sweet and sour shrimp! Also their garlic shrimp, and basically all their shrimp dishes. My BFF loves their California roll. She gets that every time, with miso soup. Over the past 20 years we've been coming here, I have yet to see her eat something else. Their sushi chef must be doing something amazing behind that counter. I kid you not, never have I seen her try something else!! We've been going here for 20 plus years. Love this place!

I LOVE this place. I have been coming here with my family since forever ago, and this place has remained a favorite over the years. Everything is self serve here after you pay and you get a number for your food. I am all for ambiance and good food, but for the price and the food, I am a fan. I come here for the Sautéed Handmade Noodles, and I have never been disappointed. I am a noodle-junkie, and the texture of the handmade noodles never fails to satisfy. For $9, an entire serving is enough for two people with leftovers to bring home. It warms up well, and the noodles absorb the juices even more when you decide to eat it later. The whole fish in brown sauce is pretty good, as are many of the dishes listed on the whiteboard to your right as you walk in. *tummy grumbles* I want some noodles now.

I read many, many reviews on Chinese food in Bethesda, MD and picked this place due to reviews. One HUGE problem... They do not accept American Express or Discover. I have to use these two for corporate expenses. This day and age I have zero sympathy for businesses that are not up to date with all forms of payment. Especially so close to DC. Beware and bring cash!

Alright, I'm in disbelief. As much as I couldn't believe there were no reviews for Sushi House, I can't believe more people haven't reviewed China Taste. I've gone to China Taste a few times and each time I was not disappointed. China Taste has fair prices and pretty good food. I was surprised to find the variety they had. They even have sushi at decent prices. I think I would still prefer Sushi House for the guaranteed freshness since I'm not too familiar with China Taste's sushi, but if you're stopping here for lunch or dinner and have a craving for sushi, I'd go for it here. I would say this restaurant has a mix of traditional Chinese dishes, carry-out dishes, sushi, and Taiwanese fdishes. Just like Big N. I was impressed by the size of their portions, but I don't mind ordering the fish with the head attached (this is a trait of a traditional Chinese dish). Seating is limited especially around lunch time. Definitely worth checking out if you've never been before.

China Taste, Tokyo Express...Finally, a place that lives up to it's name. Ok, this isn't actually a good thing. But, it's incredibly accurate in it's simple description. It's a taste of Chinese food and their Nigiri/Maki rolls may be some of the quickest around. Is it necessarily the best? No, but read this now, eat before hand and believe me later....there is much worse. Much, much worse. Atmosphere: Decor is that of a basic stripmall cafeteria with enough seating and tables. It really should just concentrate on it's take away service, but for the locals working around the area...it's a good deal. Food: You get a lot. You get pretty fair to decent quality. The General Tso's tends to be runny, but you do get real chicken. The combination Lo-Mein is good. It could still use a little more meat, but still a good deal. Soups are ginormous. Which is also a great deal here. This here is sharing food. Get the fish specials...We're talking mass quantities and pretty good meal for such a low price and it's pretty good. Nice soy flavored sauce with a little thickness to it and a little garlic/ginger tossed in. The Sushi side of Tokyo Express is just that...it's express. They don't do fancy here. Tuna, Red Snapper, Salmon...the usual suspects. California roll like it's going out of season. It's fresh...so fresh at times, it's still frozen. Service/Staff: Order at the counter, they give you a basic numbered ticket, you wait, you get food. It's pretty cut and dry and sometimes there is a slight language barrier. Get over it. They're nice folks. Pricing: Lunch specials, fish specials, fair pricing for sushi for the area. It's cheap eats. Return rate: When you see locals, when you see asians, when you see yourself in the mirror...you'll be back. Bottom line: You want cheap eats, you want good go-to food, you want to make it easy so you can get back and watch Sunday night Full contact Chess on ESPN12. You come here.

Been going here over 10 years for sushi and it's the best value I've found. Even though the prices have gone up a bit the last year or two, 2 rolls of 16 pieces with excellent Miso soup is $8 (Lunch on a Saturday) including tax and no tip is necessary since you place your order and pick it up at the counter. The sushi is always prepared by a chef that knows his craft and is experienced, as all pieces are cut evenly. The place is unpretentious as it gets, located in a strip shopping center next to a dry cleaners, which is a good thing as it keeps prices down, and lets face it, when you go out to eat you come for the food not the décor.

While working in a nearby shopping center, I had many opportunities to try local dining establishments. After over a year of substandard Chinese fare, I decided to try out China Taste, and I was surprised and enthusiastic for a number of reasons. I literally ate there every day for over a year afterward, mostly for the hot and sour soup. I am a hot & sour soup aficionado (I make my own) and of all the local restaurants, from chain to hole-in-wall, this is number one to-date in DC area based on some personal criteria (though not one single restaurant meets all). They spice their soup with white pepper; most local eateries use red pepper. Personal preference for sure, but relevant to me. Also, they use exactly the right amount of corn starch to thicken, and very low sodium. Most hot and sour dispensaries use enough starch to hold a spoon upright; this place gets broth right, and you can adjust sodium at your table with provided soy sauce (I add about a TBSP since they appear to add none). Not a "perfect" soup (lacks lily flower and uses cheap mushrooms), but the best I've had outside my house; that includes anything in Chinatown DC. The place across the street will serve you something that tastes like heated up high fructose corn syrup, so that might skew my judgment. Bears noting that this place is no MSG (not that it matters to me, I use MSG in own kitchen when warranted) but also appears to be salt nazi in general. You will probably want to use the provided tableside soy sauce, unless you prefer no/low sodium. Their handmade noodles are SO AMAZING I WISH I COULD WRITE A WHOLE SEPARATE REVIEW FOR THEM. Keep that in mind if you order soup or entree with that option. I mean, even without salt, I would eat these noodles by the fistful. They literally inspired me to an evening of learning how to make noodles at home. Their udon and other noodle assortment is also totally palatable. Agree with most reviewers here on the sushi - is really good for fast food, non-specialist rolls and raw! I'd flip a coin between sushi lunch special (two rolls), sweet sour pork, and chicken chow mein (entree and soup for under $7 with no credit card minimum is RARE at Chinese places). Never disappointed. I rate this place four stars for exactly what it is. If you're looking at this place for lunch or dinner, you're aiming at an affordable Asian lunch or dinner that gives you more than you pay for in quality and quantity. Why not 5 stars? One reason: they use really awful beef. Don't get anything with beef. They use really the worst slices I've ever had the misfortune to chew on until I spit out. I mean, really. Would have rated 5 stars if they had one piece of beef out of ten entrees I tried to eat. Go for chicken, pork, or anything fish. All good.

My boss loves this place for its sushi... It's decent sushi, but it's not on the level of other places I've gone to. The crunchy yellow tail and smoked salmon rolls were tasty, but the spicy tuna was a little vinegary. They don't use dyed ginger, making it tastier, and they had the best wasabi I've had in this area. The place is definitely a hole-in-the-wall and the staff are a little gruff. It's a decent price, we paid $30 for three people and we all got rolls. I wouldn't mind trying the noodle dishes, those looked ridiculous!

Yum yum yum! I loved the homey-ness of this place.. It was an interesting mix of chinese families pushing tables together and ordering large meals with random non-chinese ordering takeout or some of their non-chinese offerings! I thought it was so great to see a family of 3 adults splitting the bowl of da-lu noodles for dinner. That's just 3 bucks a person and a relatively healthy, well-balanced meal! Honestly though, I think it kind of reminds me of the hole-in-the-wall places in China where it feels like the whole family is working at the restaurant and everything is super fast and efficient. I went with one other person and we got the da-lu noodles (of course) and the crispy whole fish special, all for just $20! I thought it was all excellent. The soup for the noodles was lightly seasoned but tasty and the homemade noodles were excellent! They had just the right bite for good noodles and a good flavor. We took more than half home and had enough for another 2 meals! My friend thought the soup was a little too lightly seasoned at the restaurant, but thought it had excellent flavor the next day (the noodles are bit too soggy for me as leftovers). The crispy fish was also excellent. I love when they deep fry fish so crispy that you can eat the fins and tails. While, I wasn't in love with the brown sauce personally (I thought we were just going to get plain whole crispy fish instead of whole crispy fish in brown sauce), it was still a pretty good and gave the fish some nice flavor. My friend LOVED the crispy fish (first experience) and the sauce both and couldn't stop munching on it. Definitely want to go back and can't wait to branch out and try the stir fried noodles next time. Yum!

Wow. I'm surprise I haven't done a review on this place yet, even though I've been coming here for years, at least once every week or two. We just end up coming here every time we're up for sushi or some comfort food. This is another hole in the wall restaurant, nothing fancy, plain basic eating establishment. Here's my recommendation, stick with the authentic Chinese food. Try the list posted on the wall when you walk in; fish with tofu on hot pot, salt and spice squid and the spicy wonton. If you are into fried rice, try their ham and shrimp fried rice, this is not your ordinary soy sauce soaked fried rice. Noodle soup is another HOT item; they are served on a huge bowl, I always call them dog bowl meal. The noodle soup could serve two people easy. All their Sushi is excellent, from California Roll, to sashimi, to salmon teriyaki. Oh, don't forget the chicken wings; you could get it in different flavors. Good food, large portion, cheap to eat, plenty of choices. What else can you ask for?

The 4 stars is for the price-to-quantity ratio -- this place is a great value. You will see Chinese and Mexican families eating large bowls of noodles. A large bowl of noodles that can feed 3 is $7. A whole fish with sauce is $10, and with rice, can feed at least 2 or 3. (But the fish has the head attached to it, so if that grosses you out, don't order it.) Now the food isn't to-die-for, but it's a solid B. It's like -- it would cost the same whether you ate here or made it yourself , and since I hate doing dishes and cooking in general, it's easier to let them do the work for me. Other items don't seem to be so large -- the vegetables and the sushi. (I don't know, because I don't order them, but another family did, and seemed disappointed). Cash only --- perfect if you're a starving student or low on dough. Spending $15 here gave me 3 meals -- and I eat a lot.

This little restaurant is hidden off of Rockville Pike in a puny strip mall next to the Micro Center Shopping center (Federal Plaza I think its called?). My hungry friends always rave about this place for the great food quantity to price ratio. The amount of noodles and soup you get for 7$ or so is freakin' ridiculous, so don't expect to easily finish a whole bowl by yourself. The handmade noodles are good, though sometimes the soup they reside in is flavorless. The sushi is also decent, but seems to be lacking the freshness and quality sushi-rice that I enjoy. Sushi prices also seem to be around the normal realm of cost in the Rockville area ($4-7 ). If you're really hungry and on a budget, this is the place to go.

When I am in the area and I need a quick, cheap, lunch - I can't beat this establishment - the food is great, quick, the seating area clean and adequate, and the staff is courteous and helpful. Last night, my brother's kids chose to go there - the added benefit is that you can have your choice of Chinese or Sushi or both. We ordered the Kung Pao Chicken, several orders of California Roll, Egg Drop Soup, and Chicken and Mixed Vegetables. All were delicious. The check for the 5 of us came to $45. Cheap enough for a very casual dinner and without the frills of a traditional Chinese restaurant. We will be back again soon.

QUANTITY QUANTITY QUANTITY. If your hunger pangs are echoing to the pits of your stomach (and you want a good value for your dollar), this is your spot! But don't complain of a stomachache because of overeating afterwards (like I usually do)!

Delicious food for terrific value. They do the basics well. I usually go for the sushi as carryout. (salmon rolls, add avocado). I remember their handmade noodles being good, although it's been a while since I've dined in. The noodles came out in extremely generous servings.

Good take-out. Large portions, good price, quick service, tasty food. Also has some tables but don't expect much of the decor ;-). For 20 bucks you can feed 4 people easily. In conlusion, simple and decent chinese food.

love the sushi here. cheap and delicious. for about $10 i can get more sushi than i can finish (and i can eat a pretty good amount of sushi). i live in dc and struggle to find good sushi that isn't overpriced so anytime i am in rockville i take advantage of china taste. crunchy spicy tuna, miami heat, and boston rolls are my go-to's.

Went here again and impressed again. The sushi isn't amazing, but it's great for the price. So far, it's the best that I have tried in the area. I noticed they make the sushi to order but quickly so you're not waiting long for your food. And free tea! There's a minimum for Credit Card use...it's $8 I think.

This place is good at pork chop and Chinese noodle soup with handmade noodles. If you like pork chop, Pork Chop Over Rice and Pepper and Salt Pork Chop might surprise you. My American friends who love pork chop think they are the best. Pork Chop Over Rice is made for order, so it takes more time. A noodle soup can feed me for three meals in the cold winter. I'm a Chinese and like to cook different types of cuisines in a light and healthy way. I'm picky and couldn't find any good Chinese restaurant in Washington DC area. This is the restaurant I'd go if I don't feel like cooking but craving for Chinese food. And I only order pork chops and noodle soups.

I've been here twice and had the noodle soup both times. The best thing about this place is the price you pay for what you get. A HUGE bowl of noodles ($7-7.50) will easily feed 2-3 people. On to the food... handmade noodles are good, but the broth is kind of bland. Had the house noodle soup (da lu mien) and beef noodle soup on two different occasions, and both soups were very lacking in flavor. The different meats and veggies in the dish are good though. Many other people I see have sushi on their table; still others have family style dishes. Portions are all big, so it is very cost-efficient for families. Overall, a good hole in the wall, Chinese, family/home-y place for an authentic Chinese meal.

I have gone to this place since I was in diapers; their food is over the top amazing. I have always gotten the Hunan Chicken because it always taste so fabulous. I have tried other dishes as well and they never fail to amuse my taste buds. The place itself isn't a wine and dine type of place but it shouldn't matter as long as their food is good, and they definetly live up to that expectation. The pricing is absolutly fair and you get more for your money.

I am going to have to agree with everyone else. This place has become my "I could use something tasty right now" go-to place. Standard, completely americanized chinese take-out but for some reason it just tastes soo good. Maybe they put sugar/crack in it, i don't know, because from the look of the place, plastic chairs/tables, water cooler for free water, it looks crappy. But if you want cheap, americanized chinese take out, this will make you really happy.

For what this place is (a small place serving hot, home-cooked meals at a price that is hard to beat), it is amazing. I have been eating here for the past 10 years and it has rarely disappointed me. China Taste underwent a minor facelift many years back and they have maintained it pretty well. The place is well lit, and though the space is cramped, it is not disorganized. As far as food selection goes, they have everything from your Americanized Chinese food staples to regional specialties to noodle soups that leave you yearning for more the next day. Good thing there were tons of leftovers! I recommend the beef chow foon, house noodle soup, dried tofu with shredded meat, home style tofu with veggies, and the california rolls (I'm not an adventurous sushi eater).

This is a very special place. The plain decor masks the great value and quality of the entrees, which are surprisingly good. I have been eating here for more than ten years, and continually return. The portions are huge, the owners very friendly, and the chef will prepare a meal to your specifications. My favorite is the House Noodle Soup, which is huge (easily big enough for two), but there are many other good selections. The special Chinese menu (listed on a board on the wall) (ask for a full translation) offers unusual but tasty fare. Although the usual American Chinese food is offered, there are enough unique dishes to wet the palette.

Hidden behind Rockville Pike nearby either a Police or Fire Station, this restaurant doesn't have much of a setting and everything about the environment is pretty standard - nothing frilly or too fancy. The standard setting and self-serve operation keep the restaurant costs low. As a result, you get large portions of noodles at reasonable prices. To be honest, some items on the menu are better than others. I personally prefer the noodle soup and noodle dishes because I love how the noodles are hand-made with that deliciously chewy texture. Some of the other items I've tried were a bit flavorless and too oily. Overall, the food here is pretty good for the price, but incredible enough to cause random cravings.

Bland and cheap food. Been here many times to eat as I work right near it but I have not found anything that I would want to eat twice. It is cheap and the portions are big. But it is so bland or strange tasting that you wont want to finish it all.

Not good.

QUANTITY QUANTITY QUANTITY. If your hunger pangs are echoing to the pits of your stomach (and you want a good value for your dollar), this is your spot! But don't complain of a stomachache because of overeating afterwards (like I usually do)!

love the sushi here. cheap and delicious. for about $10 i can get more sushi than i can finish (and i can eat a pretty good amount of sushi). i live in dc and struggle to find good sushi that isn't overpriced so anytime i am in rockville i take advantage of china taste. crunchy spicy tuna, miami heat, and boston rolls are my go-to's.

  • A. F.

Nice place for cheap Chinese food. The food good for its price. Quick service. Their special was a whole crispy fish for $8.97, it look delicious. I'm definitely going back to try it.

  • Steve L.

  • Adrienne W.

Based on the comments maybe my expectations were high. I ordered the crispy beef and it tasted like it was coated in flour after they cooked it. The texture of grainy flour over meat was not good - I couldn't eat it, so having a lot makes no difference.

    (1)

Best Sushi restaurant in the area. Perfect for pick up and bringing home. Great California and Philadelphia rolls and the best fried salmon skin roll I've ever had.

They give enormous portions, at least for the noodle soups. A trip with a friend here on a rainy day is perfect. The texture of the tuna in their sushi roll is similar to baby food, I wouldn't recommend it. Try the smoked salmon roll!

  • Sophia K.

Oh yeah, and free hot tea is always a plus.

ah the food here is pretty bad, but it is cheap and you get ginormous portions...so if you want a lot of bad chinese food, then this is the place.

  • Ellen W.

The good things here is the services are nice and the food is really a lot. But according to my experience around this area's Chinese restaurant, I think their taste is worst. Several attractive dishes I try is really disappointed. I would say if you want a lot of food, go here. If you want tasty food, not here

This is my favorite Chinese fast food place in the area. I love their braised whole fish and DaLu noodle soup. The noodles are handmade and very satisfying to sink your teeth in. The only improvement I like to recommend is to offer brown rice.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions.
