This place is great. Food is always fresh and I enjoy it. Service is efficient. I have a very picky order & they get it right about 90% of the time. When they don't, they happily exchange it.

I tried the new "surf and turf Bonfire Bowl". Four little cubes of steak, six tiny shrimp, and a random piece of chicken on top of bland black beans and crunchy rice. Yuck.

Used to be a well loved lunch spot, but after failing me more than 5 times with their deliciously-amazing-when-cooked-right fish tacos, I have decided to never eat at a Baja fresh again. I'm serious. I have complained numerous times to management about the lack of breading on the fish tacos. It seems the staff only cooks it right half the time. The other half they do not bread the fish and throw it directly in the fryer drying out the fish. They are meant to be breaded and fried with their seasoned breading. The last time I went here, the management remade my tacos by breading the already fried fish and fried it a second time. It tasted awful. I wrote Baja fresh a letter and have yet to hear back about their training policies for their food as this has happened at another Baja and I was disappointed there too (Wheaton) They have yet to get back to me. Thus I will not eat here anymore.

We ate here for the first time tonight and we were pleasantly surprised. I had the shrimp burrito ultimo, my husband had a carnitas diablo burrito, and my 6 yr old had the chicken taquito kids meal. The kids meal included a drink, applesauce, rice, chips, and 2 taquitos, which I thought was a great deal for a little over $4. Our burritos were excellent! My husband actually said there was too much meat in his! Like there is such a thing!!! We will definitely be back and I can't wait to try the tacos and salads.

I had NO time between appointments, so I thought I would order ahead so I did not have to wait. The sign on the door, and the standup sign outside have always todld me I could do that. Those signs are wrong!!!! Do NOT order with the online system and expect it to be ready, or right. I placed an order at :30 past the hour, with a pick-up time of 25 minutes ahead. When I got to BF 34 minutes later, my order was not ready. They had no record of it. The manager said they did not get the fax, so she went to the office and printed out my email. She said I should have called as a backup!!!!! WHAT???? The whole point was so I did not have to wait. I waited 12 extra minutes, for a total waste of time of almost 20 minutes. When I said "what do I get for my time being wasted" she said your meal in a few minutes. When I said "you should buy my lunch today" she said I can refund your money but can't give you the food for free. She did not even offer me anything to compensate for my wasted time. Not only that, but the order was wrong. An awful, stressful experience. I don't think I will be back, I discourage everyone from going there.

I gave them two stars because the food is decent. I'd give them one solely based on the service. They can never get your order correct. Seriously? I don't get how they consistently mess stuff up here.

Baja Fresh is good, however at this location the quality and quantity isn't good at all. I ordered my food and when I got it there wasn't much food (portions have been standard at several baja fresh places Ive been too except from here). I didn't get chips with my order and the staff weren't nice at all. Not going to bother going here any more.

Hopefully I just went in on a bad week...I was really looking forward to a small simple but delicious meal at Baja Fresh. I had never been at this location, but given it's in this Rockville strip mall, I figured there would be no surprises When I walked in I was slapped in the face with a most pungent odor. As I stood in line I decided to order mine for take-out given this offensive odor, but I looked over at the grill and cooks and kitchen and it looked so quiet with no fresh food being made (2.5 hours before closing) that I got a bit nervous. That was 2 strikes already. Why wait for strike three? was forced to turned around...dejected that my taste for BF that day went unfulfilled. Oh well. Maybe in 2-4 months I'll give it another try, since I have been frequenting that area of Rockville a bit more recently.

I enjoy this place but it doesn't compare with chipotle. Before chipotle became popular our family frequented this place. It's much different then chipotle but it has it's own flavor.

Good value! Pretty healthy! I always get the baja burriito chicken and americano taco chicken. Fills me up for pretty cheap! Healthy too - chicken, avocado, and tomatoes!

This might be the worst restaurant on the Rockville Pike. Run, don't walk to the near Chipotle. If you must know, read on... This store consistently gets the order wrong. Even if you just order straight off the menu w/o customization, they will give you something else. The first two times I let it slide (mostly because I got takeout). The third time (dine-in) was on the level of a hidden camera show. I took the order back, explained what was wrong, 5 min later, they gave me the EXACT SAME thing! Messing up an order is one thing, but being ignorant about it and not offering to fix the situation is another. The cashier argued with me in front of a long line of customers that what I got is what I ordered. I had to go ingredient by ingredient comparing the dish to the menu. Even after being show how wrong the order was, they refused to fix it. Finally, after waiting another 10 minutes the manager *promised* to refund the meal to our credit card.... that never happened. @Fenny: YOU ARE WHATS WRONG WITH YELP! How dare you give this place a 4-star rating when you openly admit in your review that the place sucks and you've seen ROACHES on MULTIPLE VISITS. Your Elite status should be revoked!

Some might find eating Burrito Ultimo while gazing upon (and being gazed by) a roach, sitting on the wall, a little disconcerting. However, those people obviously never grew up in Taiwan, where I've had many a meal with more disgusting companions (uhhh...sorry Tourism Taiwan. Ummm...visit Taiwan everyone, it's really less gross then I make it sound). At least Clarence the Roach (of course I named him), isn't 4 inches long and flies at you, like the Taiwan roaches. I admit that the first time I saw Clarence - just as I was about to bite into my Burrito Ultimo - I threw up a little in my mouth. I went to the manager, and he made a great show of coming by where I sat (in the back, next to the kitchen), and waved his arms around. Of course little Clarence, wily little bugger that he is, was nowhere to be found. The second time I spotted Clarence, I was with my husband, and he screamed like a little girl (sorry hunny, but you totally did). By the time the manager got to us, Clarence had made his exit. By the third time Clarence decided to join me for lunch, I felt like we were old friends. After all, it's not like he's making a move toward my food. In fact, the only reason why I'm not more disgusted by this, is that Clarence never seems to make a move toward the kitchen. I'm not sure if this is a commentary on the food or not, but the burrito guys in the kitchen see Clarence...and they see me seeing Clarence, and as *they* haven't made a move toward him...well, who am I to find fault with their mascot? All this talk about Clarence the Roach isn't to put you off of this Baja Fresh. Actually, if anything, it bespeaks well of this Baja that even after multiple sightings of Clarence, I still come back. What makes this Baja different from other Baja's? Well, besides the lovely lunch companion, they are fast. Incredibly so. Their cashiers may not be the friendliest, but I'm not here to make new buddies. I'm here to eat burritos. The staff here seems to understand that, and whips out my Burrito Ultimo in a speed that makes me think that they missed their calling as...ummm...burrito makers. Uh. Scratch that. For those of you new to the Baja franchise, let me say this first. Comparing Baja Fresh to Chipotle is like comparing McD's to Subway. Superficially they both make the same thing (burritos), but their business concepts are completely different. Chipotle makes customized burritos filled with love and all that is good in the world. Completely different then Baja, which makes marvelous, tasty burritos - but the burritos are not really customizable (and before you try to tell me otherwise - try to get them to leave off the cheese in the burrito. It'll never happen). But if you're in the mood for a good, hearty burrito, you could do worse then Baja. And their salsa bar? Yeah, when I become rich and famous, and am highlighted on MTV Cribs, you'll find me sitting in a jacuzzi filled with their green salsa.

I just want all the lunches I order to be in the bag. Not the big show of going through it, just the order right. And when it isn't I want a credit for what was missing, not a second charge for the order minus the missing item. Then I would like NOT to get two harrassing calls on a Saturday, 3 days after all this happened, that still cannot just get me a receipt of the credit. Pathetic.

I'm sorry true believers but this place reeks. They call it Baja Fresh I call it Baja Rot. Went there during the summer 08 never ever again. Order a mango chicken salad and a chicken burrito for fiancee and myself. 3 legged Chicken tasted really old like sitting out for a while maybe a day or two. Mango or what ever that was suppose to be taste syrupy and overly sweeten again more 3 leg chicken taking on a life after death, lettuce pretty nasty a little slimy and that's not from the mango yeck. Needless to say we did not finish this uh I wouldn't call it edible food so we wound up donating it to the conveniently located basura (that's trash bin for those of you who no habla). Avoid this place save your stomach taste buds and faith in food of all types period. While I didn't see a roach in there like the other reviewer but certainly wouldn't put it pass this place. Go to California Tortilla or Chipolte instead.

I always get the chicken quesadilla here. It's always delicious, and theyve never messed up our orders. There's lots of seating, sometimes theres a lot of little kids, but what can you do? Ive never seen a roach, and have always enjoyed my food here. Yum!

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Ok, so their food, in theory, is pretty good. But their service is so terrible that last time I was there, I ended up getting a refund and leaving to go eat elsewhere. The last *2* times I ordered to go (different locations, this was one of them), I ordered a Loaded Chicken Bowl with no rice. Both times I received the wrong item - a Skinny Chicken Bowl. When I went back this weekend, I ordered the same thing, but was sure to check to see if my order was right. Lo and behold, it was again wrong. My husband returned the dish to the counter and asked for a correction, explaining that we had received the Skinny chicken bowl, not the Loaded Chicken Bowl with no rice. We verified on the receipt that the cashier had rung it up correctly - she had. When they remade my order, they intentionally made the Skinny Chicken Bowl to show the difference! I have no idea why they would think that making the wrong item that I did not order would somehow correct the situation. It was the exact same as the first one but with different chicken. We read through the ingredient list on the menu with the cashier to compare it with what we got, and she admitted that the first order had zucchini on it which was wrong, and was missing sour cream (which it was supposed to have). She seemed unable to grasp how to fix the situation and told us to choose one of the two wrong preparations. I said I'll take my money back please. I asked to talk to the manager, but the manager happened to be busy ringing a line of 20 people and could not talk to me. I left. I will not be going back. FWIW, if you order something exactly off the menu with no changes, it will probably be fine, but don't dare to try and customize your order. Service is a big fat FAIL.

Had heard about Baja Fresh as a possible Chipotle competitor, and especially that the fish tacos were good. Neither is true. The crispy "wahoo" is horrible, and I honestly couldn't tell whether it was fish or chicken.

The service sucked. I can't comment on the food because I didn't buy anything comment-worthy (I just bought a side salad with only romaine lettuce and pico de gallo). I accompanied my aunt, uncle and cousin, who each ordered a grilled veggie burrito. They did not receive any Chips with their meals as they were supposed to and the guy taking our order took like five minutes to comprehend the simple order.

Undercooked chicken and a careless staff. Never again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
