This place always draws a crowd. I think the food is excellent, and I enjoy seeing my old heros, like Dodger Duke Snider, on the walls. My wife recently got a deli sandwich platter here for a baby shower, and it was great. And the prices are reasonable for what you get. The Brooklyn Deli is my "go to" place for chicken soup, when anyone in the family comes down with a cold.

Is it a deli? Is it a restaurant? It's a deli priced like a restaurant. I ordered a reuben (no sides) and a soup that totaled 18 dollars before tip. The corned beef is pretty good - nice, relatively thick, juicy pieces.. by the sauerkraut, dressing, and bread lacked flavor and didn't add that tangy, bold sweetness that I enjoy with my reubens. They do give you some seemingly house pickled cukes but beware - some are nice and crisp and others are limp and unpleasant. This place does get packed.

WOW......that was the best sandwich I've had in years......Italian Hoagie. Period. $9.99 This place gets it done as a deli and a sit down place....still busy at 8:30PM. Prosciutto ham, cappicola ham, genoa salami, pepperoni, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sweet peppers onions....... The roll was perfect and soft and with all meat and the sweet peppers and onions going into your mouth........I sound like Adam Richman from Man vs. Food huh? Kinda pricey......but check..... check out this sandwich TODAY!!!!!

I have a weakness for good hash browns, so I keep coming back here. I must say, they have improved the quality of the food and the customer service. I believe it takes several visits to a restaurant to really evaluate them, and I just want to be fair to the Brooklyn Deli.

I've been there twice: 1. Breakfast. Food was fair. Service was fair. Prices high. 2. Dinner. A much better experience. Had the chicken noodle soup and a potato knish. Both were awesome and tasted real (although I can do without the funky bowl shape). Real mustard is a requirement for me ... and it's on the table. Staff were amazingly friendly. I was offered free pickles - nice gesture (plus, why waste them if they won't be eaten). Bill was $8. You can't beat that for real food. I will be back to try the corned beef on rye - that's the ultimate test of a good deli.

I've patronized the deli since they were on Rt 28. Early on the food was great, particularly the corned beef and pastrami. The food eventually settled to good (vs great) but the ambiance improved to average. I must now report that now the food (including the corned beef and pastrami) can no longer be graded good. On Saturday I had a corned beef sandwich I didn't wish to finish. The meat could have come out of a plastic bag. Other previous meals have been inconsistent. I hate to see their slide to mediocrity, but two stars is their current status in my mind.

Can't go wrong with the Pastrami or Corned Beef. Kids always go for the Beef Tongue (go figure). And everyone loves the Matzoh Ball Soup. Always tastes great and is especially great in the cold weather. Carry out is always fast and the wait staff is very friendly. Go early for the outdoor seating once the weather warms up.

The Blume Sandwich $14 (4/5 NOMs) What the pile? Needed to satisfy some messy noming in Rockville. That is one very well packed pile of sandwich goodness. First bite in and things just start falling off and your whole face is covered in greasy messy things! Sometimes you just want to get messy to enjoying something great. Its a flavor explosion with soft and savory meaty combination. Its all about the meat here with hot pastrami and kosher hotdog. Topped with melted swiss cheese and super tasty cole Slaw. They sure love cole slaw at this deli. Not a cheap sandwich, but there is a lot going on in there and you are paying for it. So much going on in that mess, but you can still taste everything and enjoy each great topping. Make sure to ask for extra napkins, you will need them. Its probably a good idea to only eat half, eating whole thing will insure to place you into food coma. Goldberg $12 (5/5 NOMs) Its meat overflow in my mouth. Get ready for some Brooklyn style sandwiches right here in Rockville. They truly master our favorite kind of sandwich, the messy pile of crazy slobbering. Bite into it and you can just taste giant pieces of roast beef meat with mozzarella cheese all over. Like most sandwiches here, they put lots of yummy coleslaw on top. We rarely like coleslaw, but here they got it just right. So hard not to finish the whole thing, but beware they are very heavy and might just put you in food coma heaven. One of our to go places for sandwiches.

I keep trying to find a good NY style deli around the Gaithersburg/Rockville area and continue to strike out. There's a couple of things that you measure a good deli by and to me that's their Corned Beef, Pastrami and Kinish. In each case it was mediocre. I had the pastrami on pumpernickel and it was extremely greasy, overly salty, fatty and with gristle to boot! The flavor wasn't right either. The pumpernickel bread was the most flavorless pumpernickel I've ever tasted and fell apart way to easily. The kinish we shared was tough, dry and flavorless. I think it was made the day before and reheated in a microwave. The corned beef was no better - this was very disappointing and for roughly $14 a sandwich hardly worth it (not to mention that the stack of meat on the sandwhich was not worthy of the cost either). Their homemade (I assume) pickles are horrible, very salty with no pickling flavor. They seem to like a lot of salt here. Service was lackluster and seemed unconcerned with my unhappy demeanor. When asked how it was I responded so-so, she said okay and walked off. A manager later asked if I wanted to box the 2/3 remainder of my sandwhich to which I responded "No thank you." He walked off without another word. Unfortunately I've lived and worked in NY and eaten at Katz's Delicatessen, I'm probably never going to find something that comes close to that. If you've never been to NY and eaten at Katz's Deli I highly recommend it!

Favorite place for Jewish Sunday brunch with the family. Best corned beef sandwiches in the area. Matzoh ball soup is really good too. Atmosphere isn't the best but. Great way to start a Sunday morning. Coffee bagel and smear!

Had late breakfast on a Wednesday. While the service was fine and my friends seemed to enjoy their sandwiches, my food was awful. I ordered the Nova and cream cheese on a bagel. I was first served a bagel with a tiny prepackaged portion of cream cheese. When I pointed out that I had ordered the Nova platter, a server took the bagel back to the kitchen, where they smeared an even tinier, transparent layer of cream cheese on one side of the bagel, topped it with salmon that looked as if it had been cut with a chain saw, and plopped the bagel top on. This was served on a tiny plate no bigger than the bagel. I had to wave someone down to ask for onion slices. For this, I was charged $13.99. DON'T order a bagel platter and you might enjoy Brooklyn's Deli.

I've eaten here several times and always had consistent delicious food. Matzo ball soup is super good and a large portion. Just love the bowls they serve in. Grilled cheese goes nice with the soup, I like mine with tomato. Today we had the Kosher hotdog which was so yummy with a nice bite to it and juicy and the fried bologna makes it taste even better. Also had the Rueben which was piled high with tender, lean corned beef and grilled to perfection. Service is fast and friendly and the atmosphere is very energetic. Love the Dr. Browns products and free pickles with dine in. Did not love that the fries, although enormous in serving size, came out cold. They sure looked good though, but I'd like them hot please. I will keep going back especially when I have a sick family member that needs some good ole matzo ball soup, just like my dad used to make. Will request hot fresh fries next time.

Have gone to Brooklyn's Deli several times the past two weeks for breakfast and lunch. Each time every table was filled, including the tables in the area where desserts are displayed and carry-out orders are placed. There were folks waiting for tables to come available in the always bustling cheerful atmosphere. The staff moved about with brisk confidence. I was seated each time close to where the food comes out of the kitchen and everything looked fabulous. I had a big breakfast one time and lunch another. Love the tuna salad and their egg salad sandwiches, always accompanied by the awesome crispy fries! We always stop at the dessert displays for their gourmet cookies to "carry-out"! Love this place!

I too, first liked this place years ago in Rockville, and am also an ex-NYer, and although I've never been to Katz's, on LI there was a true Kosher deli (no cheese on your meat sandwich- unthinkable) on almost every corner, so I think I know a good pastrami sandwich when I have it - and this one (Esther's delight) is pretty good. Meat's a little greasy, but that's to be expected; delicious, fall apart tender, piled high on fresh (also fall-apart, would have been better toasted or grilled) pumpernickel, with creamy coleslaw and Russian dressing. One bite and I was in heaven. If that's all I had, this review would be a 4 easy. BUT, NO ... please, whatever you do, stay away from the latkes!! Deep fried tasteless thick hockey pucks, not even close to the real potato (with a grate of onion) pan-fried thin ones, or even what comes out of a Manischevitz box! I've also had the matzoh ball soup (cool tilted bowl), and stuffed cabbage (billed 'like my own bubbie used to make')- both passable, but I've had much better. The free sour and half-sour pickles are nice when offered during lunch or dinner. All in all, a notch above Woodside in Germantown (where I was once served a COLD, as in NOT grilled, awful pastrami sandwich), which isn't saying much. Parking is challenged, but this is a cool place to people watch though.

Very disappointed. I ordered a hot turkey sandwich and got a few slices of microwaved turkey on old rye. Lots of huffing and puffing when I asked for condiments and a pickle. I'm not sure what happened since everyone else was getting the type of deli-quality sandwiches you'd expect. The chicken salad is on par with other places, but nothing special. Parking is ample since the place is in a strip mall. May try again if I'm in the neighborhood, but would not take a group here.

Disappointed to get a fairly large chicken bone in my bowl of matzoh ball soup. More, disappointing is the manager's respose: "Well at least you know that it was fresh". What does a bone and gristle have to do with being fresh? When I complained about how dangerous a 1 inch bone in soup can be, they grudgingly took off 50% for the soup.

Good food. Good service. Pleasant atmosphere. High prices for small portions. Paid $12.99 for a "manly" sized lean corned beef, but it was just average size, not stacked high like you'd expect from a Brooklyn themed Jewish deli. Cans of soda were $2, kind of a rip off.

Holy cows! If you haven't seen my picture from here - check that bad boy out. Though, it's a modified sandwich; we just took one of the meats and replaced it with chopped liver. If you're cat hair-balling right now. I'm sorry, I'm jewish and I love chopped liver! My totes fave is chopped liver on matzoh with a little cold horseradish. If you're adventurous, try it out. It's delicious. The meal was very good at Brooklyn Deli. I love the pickles there. The sandwich was so big I couldn't fit it in my mouth and the whitefish salad was a hearty portion and very tasty. I can tell you that this is the only whitefish salad platter in the area that comes with all the fixins' I love. Tomato Cucumber Olives Capers SWISS CHEESE ( thats the big difference) Lemon and Whitefish Salad And now you will learn how to make- what I like to call: Mike's Perfect Bagel Start out with bagel, spread the cream cheese, and sprinkle a few capers in the cream cheese. You have to sprinkle the capers at this step or they will roll all over the place like a dropped bag of skittles. So once you've embedded the capers in the cream cheese then top with whitefish salad. On top of the whitefish salad, put one slice of tomato. The whitefish salad will hold the tomato on. Then cross two triangles of swiss cheese on top and you've got - MIKE'S PERFECT BAGEL! Brooklyn Deli is serving up large sandwiches with great quality meat daily. They have an expansive menu, you'll definitely be able to find what you want. So it sounds like this place is perfect right. Why the one star knock off. I'm not a huge fan of the actual bagel. Where ever they source them from is not my favorite. I wish they would use Goldberg's Bagels. Man o man , if they did, I'd be there daily.

The warm pastrami sandwich with provolone on toasted rye was delicious. The shaved pastrami meat was flavorful and savory enough it almost tasted like soft bacon. My husband's cold roast beef on focaccia was alright though I thought the mea was bland. Not sure if that's because of the meat or the fact it was cold (I prefer warm sandwiches for flavor enhancements). Was impressed enough with my to-go orders I'd be willing to come back for a sit down breakfast or lunch.

Very good New York style deli, but expensive. Like the pastrami lean and the regular corned beef. (The lean corned beef is some kind of boil corned beef slice thick--do not recommend it.) Nice bowl of sour and half sour pickles included. Fries and onion rings good, but not impressed with the potato salad or cole slaw; potato salad a mush of potatoes and mayo and the slaw has very little flavor. Excellent breakfast including omelettes with the deli meats and great pancakes.

I love a good deli sandwich. Brooklyn's Deli has a variety of sandwiches to chose from. The hardest part is deciding which one to order. As we sat trying to make up our mind we snacked on delicious crunchy pickles. They served both full dill pickles or half done. We ordered side salads that were huge and had many dressings to accompany them. We also ordered the turkey club on rye. It was packed with lots of freshly roasted turkey, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. It was delectable. Then, we ordered the roast beef with Munster cheese. The roast beef was perfectly cured and tender as it was tasty. The roast beef was piled high. There was enough for three sandwiches. The wait staff was patient and helpful. Anytime you come in with 2 children there are many issues to deal with. The children's grilled cheese was yummy according to my granddaughter. It came with French fries and a drink. We had lots of food to take home. The meal was not cheap, but the food was high quality and delicious. I will definitely return to try there matzah ball soup and whitefish salad platter. So come hungry and enjoy the meal.

I had a great roast beef sandwich about a month ago from here. I went back to have another one on Tuesday and it was a huge disappointment. I ended up throwing most of it out. It was the consistency of shoe leather. I am not even joking. It was so tough and lacked any flavor at all. I am not sure what happened with this place in a month, but I don't think I will be going back.

I love trying different delis whenever I travel and I saw this place next to a Starbucks so it was an obvious Choice. I had the pastrami and I thought it was pretty good. It was flavorful and true Brooklyn style with just pastrami on the sandwich. They piled it high and it was worth the quick bite.

Great service, excellent food!! A large selection of sandwiches, breakfast and brunch items. Be prepared to bring your appetite because everything is huge. You definitely get your moneys worth. Our server Nicole was very efficient and friendly. The manager stopped over and asked if we'd like pickles with our meal, he brought us a large metal bowl full of whole pickles, very fresh and tasty. We brought our 2 younger kids, they got chicken nuggets and fries (big steak fries). Perfect location for breakfast or lunch!

This restaurant deservedly has become a neighborhood institution. A basic, down to earth ambiance and the informal hustle and bustle makes it feel like an extension of one's own kitchen. People can be themselves with each other. The food is now consistently good. Tender, tasty corned beef is heaped on rye bread that is the real thing-- crusty slices with the deep grain flavor that evoke memories of a time when there was less to worry about and salads were still a side dish. The menu is full of all the classics: both surf and turf. All good quality. While the prices are on the high side, the portions are large. When you consider how many delis have failed in this part of the county, it's worth the price to keep this place going strong. As Tevye said: "Tradition!"

Some tough reviews from Yelpers but I find the place fair and worth repeating. Another sign of a good restaurant is its patrons, and this place is full of locals and families. Also noticed not many reviews for their breakfast - it's definitely one of the better BF places around Potomac - good food, fair prices and ample parking.

A deli, the pure essence of the word.Even thinking of this place makes my mouth water. Met some friends here today and started with some fresh pickles, excellent! Then a hot pastrami sandwich which absolutely melts in your mouth. This is only the best deli between here an the big apple!

This popular and crowded restaurant gives you exactly what you'd expect in a Jewish delicatessen unless you're expecting kosher. It is crowded, as in cheek-by-jowl, and noisy at lunch and at weekend breakfast time. You can expect a line at peak hours--and there's not a lot of space for waiting. Take out is available and there are s few things that can be bought separately but this is not a full-service deli. And it's certainly not a place for anyone on a salt-free diet. Don't get me wrong: I like it on occasion, though only on occasion.

Very delicious. Never had matzo ball soup, but, after tasting it here, I'm not sure I can go back to ordinary chicken noodle soup! Also shared a side of corned beef and hash-tasty but a little too oily (noticed this after I reheated the entree). Random side note: loved the painted designs of mah-jong tiles in the bathroom.

I went to the takeout section and when I went to the counter I asked which was better, the corned beef sandwich or the philly cheese steak. I was advised to get the philly cheese with lettuce and tomato. I went to go sit down and the cash register guy asked if I wanted it carry out of to eat in- I said eat in. So, he went to the back to tell them not to wrap it up and brought it out on a plate. He saw me take a picture of the sandwich and said, want to check out my version of that sandwich? And ran to get his phone. His version had strips of bacon on it....DROOOL. I told him I wish mine had bacon on it- and he said- next time I come in- he'll make sure they made it that way for me. That was nice of him. Then I noticed I didn't remember to buy a drink, so I asked for a Coke- he gave it to me and said to pay for it after I ate. When I was ready to go, I tried to give him money for the soda but he wouldn't take it- so I stuck it in his tip can. The sandwich was better than Jerry Subs, but definitely not an authentic philly cheese steak (though they DO use Cheez Whiz!) It cost me $10- which was kinda pricey. I plan to come back another time- If I was judging solely on the sandwich I would give it a 3 star rating- but I was entertained and when eating alone- it's nice to not feel so alone. So, Brooklyn Deli should be grateful for that cash register guy- he earned them an extra star for being neighborly!

I recently treated a friend to dinner @ Brooklyn Deli (9/15/13). We enjoyed our meal. The "Esther Delight" (Pastrami, Cole Slaw, Russian Dressing on Pumpernickel bread)-delicious. The Pastrami was tender/flavorful, cole slaw fresh/crunchy. Our waitress was courteous & attentive-our soda glasses were never empty. Nice neighborhood place.

If you're going to sell a $13 reuben, you'd better be ready to blow my mind. Unfortunately, the reuben was almost completely lacking in flavor, with bland (but very moist) corned beef, stale-tasting sauerkraut, and not enough dressing. It wasn't altogether bad, but it wasn't nearly good enough to be worthy of the price tag or the calorie count. Woodside Deli in Rockville has a bigger menu, more flavorful sandwiches, and much more affordable prices (their reuben is only $8).

1st visit to the new location, at about 6pm (pre-show) on a very quiet Saturday night earlier this month. Good to very good food (reuben, salads, eggs around the table, plus a basket of good pickles) but a totally uninspired, forgettable, physical plant. No deli "personality" whatsoever. I'm from Brooklyn, this place isn't....but its not bad. First I've been there four or five times and the food is consistent. With a coupon its a good place for some calories. The matzo ball soup is very good..take that from a Brooklynite! The corned beef and pastrami are better than most places in this area. The portions are also average but diminutive compared to eating in NYC. Their chopped live is below my high expectations. You will get better chopped liver from Snider's Market or the Grovesnor Market for sure. I had their stuffed cabbage and it was sub par (my mother made the best on the planet) The service is OK sometimes confused and the restaurant is neutral deli decor. All in all its a good local place to go for deli and a beer. They stay on my list.

Yum! While the prices were a bit higher than I would expect for a breakfast/deli place, the food was pretty good. I had the nova lox - yum yum, but my bagel was a bit hard. My fiance tried the whitefish platter and loved it. All around it was a good place for breakfast and the service was fast and friendly.

I give this place three stars simply because the selection in Rockville/Potomac is horrendous and they are better than the rest. Is that saying much? Probably not, but I still come here a lot. The sandwiches are pretty good, though avoid the grilled cheese at all costs - it's TERRIBLE. It was ice cold on the inside and they use that crappy, processed orangey cheddar cheese for the filling. Absolutely terrible. Their HUGE saving grace are their french fries. STEAK FRIES, my friends. STEAK FRIES. YUMMY!

Have been here for dinner and had good sandwiches and service. Decided to go for breakfast one morning recently to try a bagel and some chicken salad to go. Bad idea. The guy at the counter was not interested in helping, told me they had black and white bagels (they didn't, they had white and rye bagels), and gave me whitefish instead of chicken salad. When I went back in and told him about it, he said that white and rye was "their" version of a black and white, and that he just mislabeled the contents of the container and it was really chicken salad inside. When I asked if he charged me correctly, he didn't know and didn't make a move to check, so I just got my money back and left. Probably will go back for lunch or dinner, but definitely not for breakfast.

It was a sunny day yesterday and when we arrived a musician was just about to begin performing. So we took a table outside. Neomi had the Matzo Ball soup and potato latkes. I took the pastrami sandwich which was spectacular. The soup was good, but we did not like the latkes. Nonetheless, it was a great experience and the service was very good.

I live up the street. I've been here more than fifteen times. The best dishes are barely adequate. Best bets are at breakfast; hash browns are actually, good. Another Bethesda/Potomac//Rockville excuse for a "deli."

Went there today for lunch, sitting in the full service section. I ordered first cut corn beef on rye which was good, and corn beef was tender and moist. BUT after eating I went over to the section where there is a deli counter (for carry out, breads, bagels, etc.) on the top of the counter top there was an UNCOVERED tray with mini-mini cupcakes (not even a bite size - about 1/2 inch in size - without exaggeration!) because they were uncovered and no sign stating otherwise I took one believing they were samples. Very understandable on my part since it is a common practice in grocery stores, bakeries, and other delis. As I was removing the paper cup the man from behind the counter announced to me that the cupcake was $1.20. Three others at the counter were ready to help themselves to cupcakes until hear that they were not samples. There was a sign about 12 inches away from the tray and near regular size cupcakes in individual plastic containers. On the sign there was a small notation of the $1.20 price of the mini-mini cupcakes. SO I CAUTION YOU BEFORE YOU MAKE A TRIP TO BROOKLYN DELI!!!

Went in today around 2pm for lunch. While food and server were decent, one of the workers (not sure of his role) decided to turn a channel on the TVs. Patrons were watching a movie. There were two tables with people eating. He was so rude, that we nor the other customers will be back. Over a TV channel really!!! His customer service skills need major work!!

Good deli, but two stars for the breakfast sandwiches or more appropriately the service. It's a challenge to screw up an order consisting of three ingredients but the gentleman behind the counter in the morning, while pleasant, has managed to botch my order...twice.

Well where do I begin: food was expensive service was basic. We were rushed, and the waitress ignorder us. Worst of all we waited patiently for 15 minutes to be seated. When we were finished, the waitress asked us to leave because another group was waiting. When we hesitated, she was persistent. We felt uncomfortable and left . She claimed her manager made her do it, there were other open tables ,but she wanted this one for a party of six. All during the meal, they were rushing us and forgot our orders. There seems to be a level of arrogance among the management there. I didnt beleive it, though others have mentioned it. I will need to go somewhere else next time

I commented on this restaurant a few months ago, said that I wasn't overwhelmed with the pastrami here, and that I thought it was on the dry side. Must have been a fluke, because I've been back 2 or 3 times since then, and the pastrami has been great. The portion sizes (manly brooklyn portions) are just enough, and the pastrami is good and juicy. This has become a regular stop for me when I'm in the area, and need something good to eat.

The bagel was and lox were standard. The sandwich my husband and daughter had were average as well. The Deli windows and cases were dirty. The place in general could be cleaner; floors and tables.

We go to Brooklyn's Deli and Grill every week and it's always good. The service is good. The pickles that come as a free appetizer are always delicious. The soups, eggs, pancakes and sandwiches are all great. I also like the diet tuna...it's the best I've ever had.

Picked up a turkey sandwich on rye and a side of slaw. After a few bites into my sandwich, i felt something stringy in my mouth and pulled out a small clump of blond hair. Disgusting. Will not go back here. If you want to eat here, then I would urge you to inspect your food before eating.

Deli just can't get it together.... This is the second location of the Travilah location in Rockville. Mind you it is just breakfast and lunch items -not too difficult. The quality of anything you order is good. HOWEVER, every single time I have gone to this place -the service is TERRIBLE. You have to ask to be seated, the servers can't remember if they have taken your order or if you are waiting for the check. They are terribly disorganized and to be honest.... I don't think the owner cares. He knows this is the only decent deli food in the area and even though his customers have to wait just to get water and or menus he is still raking in the dough. I beg you don't bother with this place take your money elsewhere....as a local yocal I miss the Hoffberg days....Oy!

I liked Brooklyn Deli in Shady Grove. Only G-d knows how much Rockville needs a decent Jewish deli. But I have been waiting for the proverbial messiah to arrive when it comes to the Seven Locks Brooklyn Deli. I ditto the previous comments about skimpy Cornbeef sandwiches loaded with fat - when you ask for lean. In fact, what they do is give you a hot fatty cornbeef sandwich in a bad attempt to cook off the fat, EVEN WHEN YOU ASK FOR A COLD SANDWICH. For Christ's sake, I say. Brooklyn Deli gives me little to no confidence in its cleanliness. My most recent trip involved the hostess telling us we could sit outside - no servers after 20 minutes revealed that the area was closed. This place sucks and will sadly be out of business in no time. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO GET A DECENT DELI IN POTOMAC!!!!

Brooklyn's has always had GREAT food but the service at the Potomac Woods location had been a concern. Over the past year or so I have noticed a significant improvement in the service. The staff is now pretty stable, like it was at the old joint in Travliia, and is consistently very good. Couple that with the always amazing sandwiches and you are in for a treat rarely found in the DC area. Straight Corned Beef on rye is always a winner but I also love The DeLozier. You are going to have to trust me on this since it sounds odd but it's delicious. It's hot turkey, gilled peperoni and melted provolone on a sub roll. They then take the au jus from the homemade brisket and pour it on the turkey giving it more of a beefy/salty quality. They then add a couple onions and some hot peppers which adds a very enjoyable sensation to the palate. If you are not a hot pepper fan get them on the side and try, I don't think you will be disappointed. Lastly they put some russian dressing on the bun to add the perfect topper. Last time I was there I checked SOME of the menus - some did not have it listed and some did. I think they are making it more of a special. Anyway- you may have to order if "off-menu" but they are happy to make it for you. Add some fries, pickles and a soda and you have a killer meal!

There is NOT a good deli in the DC area. I will only compare Brooklyn's to other non New York delis. The corned beef and pastrami are jus OK and the portions are skimpy for the price. Go here if you can find a Groupon or Living Social deal. That price reduction makes the skimpy portions more "palatable" to the wallet. The service was surprisingly good. We recently ate at the Bagel Deli in Denver, Co. Portions were huge and there was a festive atmosphere in the restaurant. Too bad the same is not true at Brooklyn's. Maybe it is just the difficulty of operating a restaurant in MoCo. Duplicating Denver's Bagel Deli would make me a regular customer at this establishment.

I've gone to the one in Travilah and thought it was pretty good. However the take out at the Rockville location was horrible. My order was pretty simple... Corned Beef on Rye. I went for the big one, since I'm from Chicago and used to bigger portions. $11.00 later I was chowing on the skimpiest corned beef sandwich I have ever had outside of a shiva house. Not only that, but it was LOADED with fat. BTW, this was my second attempt. The first attempt was even worse as they were still working out the kinks. So, unless you like skimpy, fatty, WAY over-priced corned beef... might want to try another place.

I've been to this restaurant quite a few times, and the food and service is ok. I am from the New York metro area and I would not say this anything like a true Brooklyn deli. But if you want a decent sandwich or breakfast, this restaurant will give you that.

I live nearby and really wanted to love this place. I am almost always disappointed. Service is not good, have to wait longer than you should for basic food. Hash browns too greasy, turkey sandwich too dry, poor wine and beer choices, plates too boring and prices too high. Also it is quite loud. With other good restaurants in the area, this place has a lot of work to do to keep up. Not worth it unless you want a good bagel--before they run out of the good ones, that is.

Try to find a fresher, heartier and delicious sandwich in all of Montgomery county!!! Can't, can ya??? Besides the corned beef, which melts while chewing it, all the other sandwiches and fish platters are terrific. There's not a bad listing on the menu, no matter what your cravings. The breakfasts are enough food for a Viking and always fresh and hot. The atmosphere is easy with great photos and posters of NY's most colorful borough. the wait staff are all characters in their own right, and they make one hell of an eggcream. Just like moms. Every restaurant has its great days and even a few that don't stack up, but Brooklyns never disapoints and is certainly never boring. Great food and great folks. Worth the visit. Enjoy.

Sorry to write a bad review but as a person who was born in Brooklyn, this deli has nothing to do with NYC in any shape or form. I guarantee you the prices are cheaper in NYC and Long Island at any good deli, and I'm sure the food prep people wear gloves there. My stomach still hurts today. Yuck.

These reviews are absolutely ridiculous. This place is GREAT. It's easily the best deli in the DC area...my sub-par sandwich at Loeb's NY Deli this afternoon confirmed that. The corned beef and pastrami are home-made and absolutely delicious. Steak fries are great, pickles are just the right amount of sour/vinegar-y. This is absolutely the closest it gets to NY deli in the DC area.

I'm tired of making excuses for this place -- which I did the first several times I ate at Brooklyn's because I was so happy to have a deli in Potomac again after the (much deserved) demise of Celebrity. Delis are supposed to have two things: ambiance, and great corned beef. This place has neither. The atmosphere is as sterile as a hospital cafeteria, and the corned beef is tasteless. And the service is terrible -- not the charming kind of terrible you get at Carnegie Deli -- but rude and tiresome service that just makes you angry. Even after being open for several months, the food preparation process is unreasonably slow (45 minutes for sandwiches) and the servers routinely make mistakes with the orders. There appear to be two owners -- one who is surly and disrespectful, and one who is apologetic though unable to rectify the restaurant's problems. About the only thing Brooklyn's does well is bagels (which I bet they "import"). I suspect this place will do well for a while simply because there is a large appetite for deli food in Potomac, but others will get fed up with the bland food and poor dining experience, as I have.

We were wary about trying this because of the negative reviews. That said, without many decent breakfast places in the area, we figured that we'd give it a go. Very happy that we did. (We've been back three times now, 2 weekend breakfasts and 1 dinner.) The service was excellent each time. Orders came out perfectly, and the coffee (usually mud at this sort of place) is pretty good. Personally, I hate delis (usually dingy, gross places with those dead gold fish in the case) so a nice, clean one with good breakfast food is a find. (Dinner food isn't bad either. My husband ordered a philly cheese steak at the last visit, and it was humongous. The kids' hotdog was grilled nicely, too. Not microwaved or boiled.) Outdoor seating, as well. Oh, they don't really have a dessert menu if you're doing dinner, but they do have cookies at the take-out counter. They let you choose those to eat at the table. I wish that they had a bigger cookie selection, but what they have (e.g., the black-and-white cookie) was very good. My only complaint is that the counter service is kinda slow. I tried that once and gave up, walking out. Tried it again and had enough time to get take-out coffee at starbucks next door. But the food and service at the tables have been consistently good and the prices are great. We still miss Bob and Edith's in VA, but we're fans of Brooklyn Deli/Grill.

This place has consistently horrid service, and is just as poorly managed. Sometimes service is disinterested, but often just plain mean. Comments about "trying to act like they are in NY" are spot on (although the service in NY isn't bad, just curt- here it is both). The food is generally passable, but is often sloppy. It is also so expensive- just a plain sandwich is 11 or 12 dollars, no sides, average size. There is certainly better deli to be had in the area. The last experience which prompted this review was particularly horrendous. I recieved a sandwich where the bread had literally disintegrated on the bottom, presumably from sitting in the window too long. I pointed it out to the server, who for a change seemed to care. He told me he would take it off the check. The kitchen manager then came out, rudely questioned me, told me that of course that type of bread would fall apart (keep in mind- this was not a special order, this was a sandwich straight off the menu), acted like I was stupid, and left. The server came later to me and asked if I could speak with the manager, who was refusing to take the sandwich off the check (this was a big order, the sandwich was a drop in the bucket). The manager decided it would be a good idea to stand in the kitchen window, 10 feet from me, and argue with the server openly, some of his comments personally insulting to me. If the owner is reading: fire this manager immediately- he is a liability. Finally another manager came by and told me he would take care of the sandwich. Over a sandwich! This will be the last time I go to Brooklyns. There are other, better delis for me to take my business to!

This place has major cleanliness issues. I watched as the counter had all sorts of food on it left over from making platters. Buckets of tuna and something else sat. A spilled soda sat on the counter along with a rag the person then proceeded to wipe down the meat slicer. He was not wearing gloves then grabbed a whole turkey and let the sliced meat fall down on the area where he had just used the dirty rag. Not one employee was wearing gloves even though they have a sign that says they should. The last straw is when he dropped a whole container of bagels on the floor for safe keeping. I couldn't stomach the thought of eating anything from this place, FOOD POISONING WAITING TO HAPPEN

I'm gonna crush this place... granted I walked in at 3PM... not necessarily peak hours, there was a mix of about 5 people standing in the immediate area. I wasn't sure where I was supposed to go to be greeted or order to pick up a sandwich. As I stood there, figuring this out, an older gentleman bumped into me to the point that it swung me around. As I looked over, he didn't miss a beat to apologize or say excuse me. As I stared him down in disgust, I realized that he was an employee there, quiet possibly a manager by what I gauge in observation. Finally I walked up to the register where an employee was counting money. The guy didn't say anything to me for close to a minute, in which case I began to walk out and just leave. Finally he asked if he could help me. Couldn't he have told me to hold on a moment? As I waited for my sandwich, I decided to use the restroom, as I walked past the wait station it smelled awful... too late I had paid. The sandwich was mediocre at best, but $12.50. I am from the NY/NJ area, so I have high standards being brought up on Carnegie Deli monsters for the past 20 years, but this was a joke. I'll never go back there again and recommend all friends stay away...

Although it was lunch time, I wanted a breakfast sandwich. I ordered an egg sandwich with ham and cheese ($4.99). What I was served was a ham and cheese ($10.99). I hate to waste food, so I told the waitress about the wrong order, but ate the sandwich that was served. It was a good sandwich, but I don't think that I should have been charged the $10.99 for their mistake. I also think that $10.99 for a ham and cheese sandwich with nothing on the side is pretty steep. I won't be going back.

This was the kind of place I hadn't been able to find in Rockville until now, just when I'm leaving. I had the Spanish Omlette and my husband had the Western Omlette. Good-sized portions, fresh made, the side order of bagel was fresh and delicious. The decor supports their theme without being junky and the place is clean. I would have preferred that the waitress had stopped by to refill the coffee before we were ready for the check but the mugs were huge and I don't feel I missed out on anything.

sandwiches are WAY overpriced for what you get- a $13 sandwich should be enough for two meals, but it didn't even fill me up, and I weigh 160 lbs soaking wet!!! I ordered a pastrami reuben to go and when I got home- surprise... it was a half turkey, half corned beef! the place is not busy enough to get a sandwich order wrong! I called to report the error and hey did not seem to care- very annoying. Also think charging $1 for a bagel, regardless of the amount you buy is absurd- who pays $12 for a dozen bagels??? And they are not even home made! I hear they are busy during breakfast, but they are empty for dinners... can they survive on breakfast alone? I hope for their sake they can because overpriced dinner places don't make it for long in Potomac.

The food and the ambiance are very good. However, when asked why they don't carry Junior's Cheesecake or cheesecake that is as good, the owner said that he had never heard of Junior's. No authentic Brooklynite would ever say that! Shame!!

Very good food. Especially for breakfast, since they don't have much in the way of competition. That having been said very poor service. Inaccurate on most orders. Ate there today took an eternity to get our food, when asked the manager became quite rude and abrupt with us. All I wanted was for him to make sure it was still coming. Very uncalled for!!!

Went to buy lunch yesterday and gave my order to the deli. After waiting 20 minutes with nobody in line, I was finally getting service. I wanted to order egg salad, but they did not have enough, and offered me a small quantity with with hair in it. I also wanted to order fresh sliced bologna, but they wanted to sell me already pre-wrapped meat they found under the counter from god knows when. They had no corn beef cut yet, and no rye bread sliced. ( Terrible ) I called my wife to tell her I am leaving and a man behind the counter said to me "do not talk in front of the other customers" . I did not answer him, and left the store. This is the third time I tried to get good food and good service, and will be the last . None of the workers had gloves on, and all they wanted to do is ring up customers at the register. I know friends and family that are going to have huge parties coming up soon, and I will definitely tell them not to go here!
