A costly $38 brunch & bad experience with skimpy portions average service and a gruff & indifferent manager/owner that admited the portions were smaller to meet todays standards. Question ? why was the price increased for less. Will "never" return. A sad epitaph to a neighborhood tradition.........................

Gone are the days when this place was a Baltimore staple. It's sad when you can't get a decent corned beef on rye that tastes good, if anything that should be something they can do. Corned beef was no better than a pre-packaged lunch meat. Another good name gone, they just don't seem to be making an effort. My guess is they will close in the next 12-18 months.

HORRIFIC!! Service and food atrocious...Owner, Mark Horowitz refused to comp Matzah Ball Soup after it was returned 4 times !! Soup was not only served luke warm, but the carrots were so crunchy raw, they should have been in a salad!! For $26+,for soup, a sandwich, and ice tea, this restaurant should be avoided.

I've been here on several occasions with my wife. Me And my wife was out with our grand daughter so we decided to stop here for breakfast. We enjoy their food and portion size. If you have never been here before this establishment has a mixture of old & young families. It seems like the patrons that visit this establishment come here for the breakfast. The only complaint I have is I wish they knew how to make corn beef hash the correct way. Otherwise they have a outstanding breakfast menu. There breakfast menu has a lot to offer on the breakfast menu, including one of my favorites yummy yummy buttermilk pancakes, french toast, and bagels including any other breakfast item your heart my desire.

I came in to get a bite to eat and get some work done at a quiet table. When i walked in no one was near the dining side of the building so i sat at an empty table. It was early on a Saturday so no one else was there. 5 minutes pass and no one.comes from the back and the ppl manning the deli didn't send anyone out to check on me either. Im trying not to get annoyed so no biggie I will just get a sandwich to go and be in my way. Walked to the deli and the lady behind the counter greeted me like i hadnt passed her 5 minutes ago. Lol no mention of the missing in action waiter or anything. Whatever. I Ordered a real baisc turkey sandwich and some chips so imagine my surprise at a bill that was close ton $10! I did a double take. And made a mental note to not frequent this place. Bright spot my sandwich was good. Not $10 good but decent

Awful business. Owner is rude, does not honor his word. Provides terrible service and does not in any way appreciate your business. Do not use this vendor. Spend your money elsewhere at a small business that cares. Save yourself the headache. Our family event was ruined by a Mostar and the owner showed no remorse at all. Yuck. Thank goodness Karma will take care of him in the end.

The old location would have been a 5 star rating. I loved going to S&H and even placing orders for pickup. The location has moved after a very unfortunate fire and some things are not what they used to be. However, the food is still good. They do have the best whitefish salad than anywhere I've been. I recommend the three way bagel, lox and cream cheese with whitefish salad. It is so wonderful. They haven't had chubbies the last many times I've been there. They used to always have them. I don't know if they'll ever get them again or not. When I ask they're never sure, so who knows?! It may be all of the memories of the old location but I do prefer the way the other place was for dining in and picking things up from the deli, even though it was cramped at times. I do miss it, but the food is still good and the parking is even better than before! I love the Yiddish "translations" on the place mats. I'm glad they kept that. It is a cute touch that gives it a nice little bit of a hamish feel. :-)

I have been to Suburban House 3-4 times. Each time I received a very similar experience. On one hand consistency is a good thing, but on the other hand none were that memorable. THE GOOD... -easy to park (big private lot) -lots of seating (sometimes there is a wait, but only a few minutes) -lots of menu options -wait staff has been friendly THE BAD.... -the food doesn't taste that good...not very fresh tasting -drink refills are slow -for practically diner-fare the prices are a bit high -crab cake was loaded with filler -matzo ball soup was too salty -tuna melt was bland and tasted a bit like aluminum Overall this joint isn't worth revisiting. I was told from a friend at one point this place was run well, but from my experience those days are long gone. I went back a few more times because I really wanted to like this place. I thought maybe it was a one-off experience...not so much. I'd rather go to a diner.

Sadly, the clientele of this once-popular Deli is either dying off or has moved permanently to Florida. The food and service have become mediocre at best, portions are skimpy and dull and the wait staff is indifferent. I predict that unless major changes are made S and H will be closed permanently in the next 5 to 10 years, if not sooner.

This is a very nice restaurant. Their tunafish sandwiches are unbelievable, The manager/owner Mark is a very lovely man he seems to really care about his customers.

Got the Rachel (which is the Reuben with coleslaw instead of sauerkraut) but they still managed to put sauerkraut on it which kind of ruined it for me because it was melted into the cheese. On top of that the sandwich fell apart because the bread got soggy. For $13 I don't expect to throw half a sandwich away because it's literally inedible. Also got a grilled cheese with bacon & tomato. The bacon was brown...not a color I've ever seen bacon. The best thing about the meal was the $1 kettle chips. The other $26 was a complete waste.

Love coming here. The Matzah Ball soup is good and the Oriole Club Sandwich is a MONSTER. Def will be back here when I need my local Jewish Deli fix.

Horrible- we had a bar mitzvah - they catered it- it was 2 hours late, they had the wrong day, then over charged us. Then, lied, said they didn't have the wrong day and were in a car accident. What the heck.

Suburban House is just what one would expect for a venerable Pikesville Deli. Jewish comfort food that tickles the taste bud memories of days of yore, served inconsistently by a wait staff that often seems beaten down and jaded. Service has raised inconsistency to an art form, and this seems irrespective of how busy the venue happens to be. Jewish Food 101 can be found here: the basics. If you are expecting novelty or adventure in new approaches to the old standards, you will not find it here. The kitchen is fast, efficient and predictable. The variability is introduced entirely at the "front of the house." The "Restaurant Impossible" folks could turn this place into a gem; it would not be hard. As it is, it's just solid enough to warrant an occasional return.

Went here for breakfast before the Preakness. Got simple bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches. The eggs were barely in the bagel, the bacon was just sitting in the wrapper, and the bagel definitely came from a bag of frozen ones. Would have had better breakfast going to target and getting frozen meals.

Set up like a 'Jewish style deli' although not kosher , this place is well staffed and has a comfortable atmosphere. The mishmah soup was served warm and was big enough to feed two people. The egg salad was served on soft fresh rye bread with lettuce and tomato and was perfectly made, tasty. The coleslaw served was crispy and light, no overpowering of dressing. A return for me.

Wow! This was the perfect place for lunch on a day of running errands. Got one of their signature sandwiches - "the Orioles" - for $11.95. Corned beef, pastrami, slaw, on rye with a pickle on the side. Great flavor and quick service. I only wish my pickle was a little stronger. See my picture posted of the sandwich.

I recommended if you are looking for a good diner. This place is an institution. My Swiss cheese and and mushroom hamburger was done really well although I didn't really care for the onion rings my husband Love them The service was slow but people friendly you need to check it out. .

Bummer- had an awesome corned beef sandwich here a few weeks ago and wanted to take my husband for lunch. Our server was sick and felt compelled to express this to us as part of her greeting. Took a very long time for her to bring back our drinks. I understand the issue with being at work sick and her bosses should have had her take the day off, not just so she could get better but also not expose the patrons to whatever it is she may be ill with. My sandwich wasn't nearly as great as the previous time I was there. They forgot to toast the bread, the meat was barely heated up and the sandwich was about half the size of the one I had last time. Overall disappointment in the entire lunch.

I called a week ago to make reservations for 14 at 1:15 pm and was told no problem, they could accommodate my party. I gave them my name and cell number. Called yesterday to increase to 15 then again this morning to increase to 19. Each time I called they confirmed my name and time and that they could handle my request. Got there after my mom's unveiling and they had no record of my reservation. Plus they had no AC. The owner accused me of not calling and then when other people in my group said they witnessed me calling he said that he has crappy employees who don't care. As you can imagine we were angry and left. This place needs to close down unless they have a total change in management. What a train wreck it is.

Stopped in this past Sunday evening and thought I would give this place a try, as It has been a while since I have eaten at a good deli. I was warmly greeted by the cashier/hostess and then seated. Looked over the menu, which has a huge selection of meals, sandwiches and so forth. I decided on the Matzo Ball soup to start and then ordered the Franks and Beans platter. The Matzo Ball soup arrived first, which is the bowl size, very large. It was delicious and probably the best Matzo Ball soup that I have had. Ingredients and noodles , all fresh and hot. Next the Franks and Beans arrived, which came with two large Franks and a couple slabs of Bacon and generous portion of beans. This dish was excellent! The manager was great on checking to see that everything was ok several times with me. I will be back again, and I would like to try the entrée "Chicken in a Pot", which is a very rare find on deli menus in this area. I don't know why some of the reviews are so negative, but this was one of the best delis I have been to in this area. The area where you come in also has a large carry out area, deli meats, salads, bread, pastries, etc. Keep up the good work.

Today is Easter!! I figured many of my fav breakfast places would be packed so I came into this establishment. Hungry! They offer carry out and dine in. My boyfriend and I chose to dine in. Cozy little place that could use some remodeling. The prices was great and by looking at other customers plates the portions was huge! I was excited about the huge portions because that means more bacon!! Lol I ordered French Toast, hash browns, bacon, and a fruit cup. My boyfriend order the same sides but with pancakes. Sadly my bacon was the worst. I had the bacon switched out for sausage which was still awful. The spices used on the hash browns was just too much. The "fruit cup" only had honeydew. On a good note the French toast and pancakes was good. The bread used for the French toast was really sweet. My waitress at the beginning was really nice at first. When I told her that food was not good for my taste buds(of course I said this very politely) she just walked away and sent the manager. I told the manager my feelings. He took the food I didn't like off of the bill. Kudos for that but I will not be returning.

This is a nice little find in Pikesville on Reisterstown Road. Nice big sandwiches that are really delicious. Nice place for breakfast or lunch if you're close to this location. The service is just meh, but I don't understand the bad reviews. It's a deli. Calm down, people! ;-)

I was here today for lunch with coworkers. We order our food and was waiting patiently when a mouse ran out and dance for us in the middle of the dinning floor. I scream because yes I'm not a fan of mice and customers came to see what was the problem. When the manager came out(he didn't identify himself) to explain they have field mice but passed inspection. No apology or asked was i ok. I guess as long as they pass inspection mice are ok. My coworker asked to speak manager(because we didn't realize he was the guy that came out earlier) came out and offered us free dessert. I cancelled my order. If this app had a no star option this place would receive a negative star.

They somehow managed to take pre-made frozen crap and make it even worse. They even made food that's not pre-made frozen crap taste like pre-made frozen crap. I had the slammer #3, consisting of cruise line level scrambled eggs from a powder mix, latkes that were fried to the point of being rock hard greasy little coasters, and a hunk of kugel that tasted like it was made a week ago and left out on a counter since then. I also tried the chicken kreplach soup, which was like a pint of hot oil with some store-bought pasta in it and one dumpling floating on top. The chicken was noticeably absent. My boyfriend had the slammer #2, which was something you'd expect from Denny's. The potatoes were frozen from a bag with limp onions thrown in to dress them up. Together they were squishy and sad. The French toast that came with it looked delicious. But upon biting into it we realized that they didn't bother to cook it all the way through, leaving big globs of raw egg throughout it. The least offensive part of this meal was how they don't season their food. At all. Nothing had salt in it if it was meant to be savory, or sugar in it if it was supposed to be sweet. Nothing had texture, or flavor, or anything to qualify it as food. Also, I was charged more than the menu price, but that's not as big of a deal as having to go get breakfast elsewhere after getting breakfast here.

As a long time fan of the old "suburban house" we were excited that they've re-openend and looking forward to a big ole bowl of matzo ball soup.... Insert big sigh here well. All I can say is that they must be under new management. The menu is different, the matzo ball soup is different...the service is different.... So- what I loved about the former matzo ball soup was it's simplicity- just simple chicken broth, the matzo ball and noodles (which were optional). Now the broth has celery, onions, and carrots in it. Now don't get me wrong- in any other restaurant this would probably be considered good chicken soup- but I liked it the way it was. I think it's a really bad business move to alter your most famous dish. I'm not sure if I'll go back. And that's pretty powerful- my family and I have been patrons of this place for over 40 years. I'm pretty sad right now. Bummer.

(12/23/2011) Classic place to go in Pikesville. Got the renowned matzoh ball soup; matzoh ball was larger than a tennis ball (a sinker, but not too dense and seasoned well), soup was savory, yellow with fat, chicken a little chewy, chock full of tender noodles, some carrots and celery. Whitefish salad was smokey, salty, fishy, the best I've had; do yourself a favor and get it on a bagel as it was meant to be, regardless of the other bread options. Dining room looked recently redone, but as this was my first time there, can't compare to previous incarnations. Prices a little steep; but quality was relatively high. Service was prompt, and efficient. Lots of great things to try that you don't see in most other diners in Baltimore, like Scotch kippers, chopped liver, matzoh brei. Am looking forward to another visit.

This place sucks...even by Baltimore restaurant standards. Keep in mind I've only been to the old location (pre-fire) when reading this review. The service is horrible, the clientele is always busy complaining or placing special requests (while there I heard "I'd like my toast burnt and my eggs soggy with only two shakes of pepper" from a customer), and the orders often come out wrong. I went with a large group and was told that there were about 4 things I should "never order at the Suburban." These items included any meat, any type of seafood menu item, any vegetable besides potatoes, or anything that requires "good ingredients," according to a friend. Basically, my only safe bet was the pancakes. I got the pancakes and they were tasteless. Almost like soggy carboard with fake high fructose syrup on top. I won't be back and I won't look back on my experience with a smile. That's for sure!

  • Gene T.

Not on the same level as New York deli diners, but not so bad for Baltimore. Just don't expect a culinary revelation. In my experience the service was always good, the owner often stops by the tables to ask customers about their meals.

My husband and I visited the old location a number of times. We actually had our wedding day lunch there. Loved the food, the atmosphere, and the staff was one of the most attentive I've ever experienced. Tonight, we went to the new location for the first time. They just opened up very recently. The experience started out on a bad note as one of the employees (manager maybe?) stood in front of the door in middle of a conversation with another person. It took us saying "Excuse me" about 3 times before he moved about 6 inches to let us through the double doors into the restaurant. The glass doors, were filthy, and the smell inside the place was less than pleasant. The place was packed, and there was a feel of disorganization. We were seated in a booth, and sat there for a full 5 minutes before one of the many busboys came by and asked if we'd been helped. He left to go get a waitress who showed up in a frantic hurry. She took our order, and came back a few minutes later with 3 of our 4 drinks. My mother-in-law reminded her of her request for water. Another busboy ended up bringing the water 10 minutes later when we asked if he could get it for us. Food came. The portions were very large. Two of us got Reubens, my husband got a cold cut sandwich and my mother-in-law a chicken Caesar salad. My Reuben was dry as a bone and the salad was anemic. The waitress only came back to give us our check. The most impressive part of the experience was the efficiency of the bus boys. These young men were attentive, polite and thorough. A huge, huge disappointment, and their prices were much, much higher than they'd been at their old location. I wish them well, but we certainly will not be back. Goldberg's down the street will continue to be our Jewish "go to" place in the neighbourhood.

Food was fair - very greasy! The service was fair, distracted and inattentive. I almost felt like I was imposing on my waitress's time. I went with a coupon from Chewpon but they wouldn't honor it. Claimed it needed to be printed on a full sheet of paper to be used. Seriously, in this day and age of smart phones and trying to respect the environment. Overall a real poor experience and bad value for your dollar!

I'm sad- I have happy memories of the old Suburban House, and maybe I built it up too much in my mind, but this was a huuuuge flop for me. I'll grant that it can never be exactly the same, but this was just so... "blah." It's still a Jewish "Style" deli-diner, with a senior-citizen vibe oozing out of the walls, and they still have those ridiculously awesomely cheesy paper placemats with the sarcastic Yiddish term definitions on them. The service was attentive, I'll give them that. But the food was only so-so, and in my opinion, overpriced for what it was. The standard diner-style menu (with all of its adorable yiddishisms) made it take forever for me to figure out what I wanted. When I finally did decide on their three-way bagel with veggie cream cheese, tomato, and swiss, I asked if I could substitute the veggie cream cheese for lox spread, since other similar menu items offered that option. Sure, sure... but the consolation for the kitchen staff seemed to be forgetting the tomato and collecting a pool of grease over top. I must have used half the napkins in the dispenser mopping it up, and I still could feel my arteries hardening. The apologetic waiter tried to remedy the Mystery of the Missing Tomato by putting a dinky one on top and then melting another grease-congealed slice of swiss over it, but at that point I found it beyond unappetizing. When we got the bill, I saw that I'd been charged a dollar extra for the lox spread. That was my fault- I just *assumed* it wouldn't matter what spread I used, since similar menu items offered it interchangeably. Didn't make me any happier to be paying it, though. Everyone else said their meal was just ok. My sister got a strawberry-banana smoothie that I thought tasted like bubblegum, but she seemed to find palatable. Overall, it was just a disappointing experience, and I'm glad I didn't bring anyone who I'd previously been yakking this place up to, and thus embarrass myself. Food is mediocre at best, and not worth the price. The end.

Went back today at the new location. I got chocolate chip pancakes and home fries. First, the prices did go up. Second, the food portions are larger. Not really a bad thing since I got what I paid for. But it's not the same. The food is still good, but I got sick a few hours later. :(

This place is terrible. The restaurant is dirty, the service is distracted and apathetic, and the food is bland and looks as though it has been sitting around for weeks. Save yourself the money and the upset stomach. Subway is a better pick than this place

Oh where do I start? Waitress was very nice but not very efficient (had to ask for something about 3 times, disappeared for several minutes); Food took a long time; Someone got the order wrong (not sure if it was the waitress or the kitchen staff); Food was just ok - nothing I'd order again. Portions were nice but that doesn't matter much to me if the food isn't tasty. Onion rings tasted OLD and they were COLD! I cannot say for sure, but the ketchup (in Heinz bottles) tasted like anything BUT Heinz. I think they are refilling the bottles with the cheap stuff (by the way, had to go to 3 tables to find a bottle that was actually full enough to use). Same with the mayo - just tasted weird. I mentioned my visit to my Mom and she said that she went there a while back and didn't like their corned beef - she said it was just too fatty. Anyhoo...would I go again? Maybe. But probably not. I prefer Lenny's just down the road.

I have been going here since I was a kid, and love coming here because nothing has changed that I can recall. If you are a Russian immigrant and have gray hair, you already know about this place. The crowd is a mix of old & young, lots of families. It seems like everybody celebrates a family birthday or anniversary or Jewish holiday here, because theres always a large group celebrating something. The breakfast has lots to offer, including yummy buttermilk pancakes, french toast, and bagels with lox. The fish medley with the different kinds of fish is lovely, and worth the expensive price. The sandwiches are stacked high...like Grandma Yentil's gray hairdo, and the whitefish salad with whitefish meat tastes better than how great aunt Rose used to make it. Gefilte fish is decent, but not made in-house. Nice place for the family, and will comeback as long as I live near Baltimore.

Best deli sandwich in Baltimore is Attman's Deli -- but this place is pretty good -- they have some triple decker sandwiches that are more than a meal -- and it is a good place for breakfast as well. Very good diner fair with some standard deli choices. Good service as well. A Pikesville institution........worth a visit.

Currently closed after an electrical fire. According to the sign and the restaurant's website, it says they will reopen in the future...

Good sandwiches, uneven service but if you like deli food, this is as good as you're going to get outside of New York. I like their punnishly named triple decker sandwiches. (Liver come back to me: chopped liver and rare roast beef. I've never been able to finish one at a single sitting.) Breakfast all day. I'd give them an extra star if they were open late on Saturday nights.

I've been going to S&H since I was a kid. It's been our place of choice to take my 84 year old mother, almost every Sunday morning for the past 8 years before and since they moved to their new location. But we will not be going there anymore. What happened next was a scene from the movie "5 easy pieces" when Jack Nicholson wants toast and it's not on the menu. My mother's favorite breakfast is the "3-Way". She used to also get her bagel cut in thirds, instead of the normal halves. A year or so ago, our regular waitress told us that the staff can no longer serve the bagels that way, because they were slicing their hands while cutting bagels and insurance would not cover them. Ok, it seemed ridiculous and we were not happy, but we still kept patronizing. Then a few Sundays ago my husband wanted lox and bagels, and knowing he couldn't get his bagel sliced in thirds, asked for a steak knife to slice his own bagel, all by himself. The waitress refused. They wouldn't cut it in the kitchen even though there was a menu item on the menu that specifically serves a bagel sliced into thirds, called the "Suburban Triple Treat, A fresh baked bagel, sliced 3-way, toasted and topped with chive cream cheese and Swiss cheese & tomato." We asked to speak to Mark, the manager, and the waitress belligerently refused to get him. He wouldn't come out to talk to us because he was supposedly too busy when there were only 3 tables occupied. We see him a minute later, doing nothing, arms folded, in the dining room. I walked over and he reluctantly agrees to talk to us and obviously doesn't even realize that he has a menu item that serves its bagel cut 3-way. Because of his refusal to get my husband a steak knife to cut his own bagel, plus his belligerent attitude and his waitress's general rudeness towards us, we will never patronize this mis-managed place again.

Just as I became a regular...it went down. Allllll the way down. I have had breakfast, soup and sandwiches here. I still think they have great pancakes and the value for the breakfast is amazing. First thing to ruin lunch today was when my pastrami sandwich and fries arrived. I reached and opened the ketchup (plastic squeeze bottle) and it promptly exploded orange colored ketchup. All over me all over the table and the walls of the booth. That's bad. But what's worse is that orange means EXPIRED. A nice bus boy gave me napkins and I escaped to the bathroom for damage control. No one cleaned the table. I asked to move myself. Waitress was apologetic and that was it. The first hot pastrami I had was good. Today it was greasy, overcooked, not peppered, and in these ridiculous strips. And why does my soda cost more than the fries? I really wanted to make this place a "go-to" for when I was in the area. But now it's just a NO.

This place is a must visit for my husband when we are in town because he ate at the original Suburban House growing up. I'm not as impressed. The "homemade" corned beef hash was mostly gristle, and came with a hefty price tag. Wait staff made uncomplimentary remarks about guests where other guests could hear. The bagels are fine, but not noteworthy. My husband likes the meat knishes.

I was really looking forward to having some nice Jewish food tonight. Instead I had the most disappointing meal ever. It was the 1st night of Hanukkah and I was looking forward to eating some latkes, soup and a sandwich .Instead i had a bowl of bouillon soup filled with diced processed deli meat( gross) chicken and a matzo ball that was lead. I sent back the soup and got some split pea which was better. My "half" a pastrami sandwich was 2 bites!. I've never seen such a small portion of food let alone a Jewish deli. Since dinner was disappointing I hoped to end the meal on a better not with dessert. Boy was I wrong. I had a slice of coconut cake that was so dry it was inedible. Believe the negative reviews.

I really don't understand the bad reviews. I've had several things on the menu and they all tasted yummy. I defenitly recommend the whitefish salad sandwich. It's the best whitefish I've had to date. The Matzo ball soup is a little bland, a little extra salt wouldn't hurt still good though. Plus those balls are huge. I enjoy the food here and feel sad that it has such poor reviews.

Went for Mother's Day breakfast. Expected a long wait but we got a table right away. It did fill up by the time we left. I read a couple reviews as we sat there since we had not been here in a long time. I can see why some are good and others not. Good points- our server was friendly and did a good job. The pancakes (both regular and chocolate chip flavor) were good. The homemade corn beef hash was good. Portions are huge. Bad points- home fries soggy and luke warm. Coffee was not very strong- almost watery. Price was very high for breakfast- 3 people with 3 drinks- $50!

I have never received worse service. The place has the most rude employees. It is an embarrassing establishment.

After many years away from Baltimore, I was excited to have brunch again at "S&H." Although the old location had gotten a bit tired, it was far homier than the new spot. Waitstaff still was cheerful and attentive. The portions were still huge and the matzoh ball soup was still good. The lox and cream cheese were not as flavorful as in years past. I still would return because as always you go to suburban house because you always went and not necessarily because the food was great.

I had heard great things and the place was recommended but I thought it was really bad- near lots of other locations offering corned beef I found it tough and tasteless. Tried the matzah ball soup (also recommended and it was weak. Our server sat next at the table next to us talking to other servers about customers and checking their phones... And we couldn't get any refills and she never checked back to ask about our food- when I left a 15% tip at the counter I got a look from the guy like I was a cheap skate but he also didn't ask how our meal was.

We've been patrons of Suburban House for many years, the old location as well as this one. The old location had turned into a filthy restaurant with sub standard food. Customers had disappeared, not because of the bad parking, but because of the dirt, food encrusted silverware, poor service and poor food. I was eager to try SH at the new location, hoping they cleaned up their act. Today was the end of the relationship. I've put up with the spotty service, incorrect food arriving (they always made it right), but it's gone so far downhill, I won't subject myself to such an unpleasant, upsetting experience. At this point it's worse than the original SH. The portions are large but what's the point if it's inedible. Over the years, I've had tasteless soups, spoiled whitefish, rancid dairy food. undercooked eggs, stale bagels, etc. Today I ordered a Greek salad. I specifically requested no green olives, since it used to be prepared with only black olives. The salad arrived after 20 minutes with mounds of green olives and an added surprise of 10 huge jalapeno peppers! I wasn't expecting a Mexican salad. Why would anyone put jalapenos in a Greek salad??! We signaled to the waitress, who was in her own world. A male employee told her we needed her but she ignored us! Quite a while later my husband carried the salad back to the kitchen. She finally came out of her fog and put in an order for a substitute bowl of soup, at our request. She brought the soup, rather she flung it on the table! I used to like their matzo ball soup. This soup had a huge, dry matzo ball in a greasy, salty, oil slick broth to which extremely overcooked, too soft noodles had been added. No carrots, no chicken. The waitress scurried away as soon as she "served" the soup, not to be seen again until she brought the bill. Based on her lack of attention and attitude we left her a very minimum tip, paid the bill and left. Imagine my surprise when she ran out of the restaurant, confronted me with a nasty attitude and threw the tip into the street! Isn't it a policy/procedure that staff display some form of professionalism? I've never heard of an employee leaving the premisis to confront a customer! Bizarre. SH sank to a new low. Good riddance! BTW, I agree with the poster about the greasy, dirty front doors. If the entrance is dirty, I can only imagine what the kitchen is like!

One star is too many. They old location was so dirty and gross I figure the new location will be soon. The owners are horrible and the placebos a rip off. It is known as S&H, I could tell you what the S and H should stand for!!! I told the owners!!!!

Worst meal our family has ever had in Baltimore! Grilled cheese sandwiches filled with cold, gummy, greasy cheese. Tasteless soup arrived lukewarm. They charge for soda refills, and we even left our desserts half eaten. Cake was dry and sundaes were topped with cool whip. Avoid!

Used to eat at old location before fire and it was good. Took family Sunday and it was average to poor. Service OK food wasn't.

Ordered the "drink of the day". 2nd time they did not have ingredients needed and had no substitute drink! My wife ordered a "powerhouse" sandwich. It came to the table with 1 piece of cheese, 2 slices of cucumber, and 1 slice of tomato. This is NOT a powerhouse. And it was $8.00. I ordered a sandwich with swiss and was charged an extra $1.49 for a slice of cheese! To bad, it used to be a nice place in it's old location. Most of the staff is "sleep walking". The place is not very clean. Over priced, and food is not as good as it used to be. Go to Lenny's right up the road for the "real deal"!

Phenomenal nova lox - got it on a bagel with house-made chive cream cheese but the tomato was a bit blah . . . The kugel was great too and they warmed it up for me - I have never had kugel with bits of fruit in it - raisins and maybe some apples? not quite sure - there was a bit too much cinnamon for my taste though.
