Mid-Atlantic Seafood brings soul food to the DC area at multiple locations. From the name, you'd think it'd be your typical Maryland crab shack... but it's really so much more. So many different seafood dishes, about 30 different sides, amazing desserts, smoothies... honestly, their menu is a little overwhelming. Plus there are specials, and signs everywhere with more things you can order. Eventually you just have to pick something and resolve to come back later to try the rest. I've been to a few different locations, but this is by far the swankiest, with a shiny bar right in front. They serve a couple dozen beers, it's impressive! It's a gorgeous open space with lots of seating options. It was an auditory cacophony, though, as they blared the television and the radio on top of conversations and numbers being called. If you have ADHD, it might be hard to handle. No matter how you like your fish (fried? baked? grilled? on a po'boy?), they can do it. I think the things that really shine here are soul-inspired, fried and soaked in sauce. I love any place that serves fried okra, and theirs is tasty. The only disappointment I've had is the black-eyed peas, which are just bland. Bring on the seasoning! After you've filled yourself with breading and grease, a smoothie will make you feel like you've done something nice for yourself. And some cobbler will reverse that but leave you so satisfied, who cares?

A great place to go for happy hour! The bartender is friendly and makes great drinks. The food is awesome, too! Try the fried okra, stuffed shrimp, and chef salad! Also, a great place to watch sports!

Great food! The bartender, Tavaris is exceptional. The drinks are strong and the fresh seafood really sets you up for a great evening.

I would actually give this place 3.5 stars. We Stopped in for lunch and I ordered the fried whiting sandwich with French fries while my fiancé ordered a shrimp po' boy with fries. The fish was lightly fried and had a nice coating, but lacked a bit in seasoning. However, I'd rather have less than too much. Plus, I was given three large pieces which could last three meals so that made up for it slightly. However, I asked for a sandwich and wasn't given any bread which was a little disappointing because we all know how good a fish sandwich is! And as far as the fries go. ..well fries are fries. They were pretty decent especially dipped in a little mumbo sauce. My fiance really liked the po' boy and he's a tough critic who's hard to please when it comes to food. The shrimp were lightly fried as well and had just the right amount of lettuce and tomato with boom boom (?) sauce on the side. We ordered to-go but the place is spacious and has a nice looking bar. I wouldn't mind checking out their happy hour on another occasion. In general, the portions are plentiful for the price and the staff is pleasant. It's definitely one of the nicer spots in Hyattsville.

I really don't know how to describe this place, maybe its best to say its Asian Fusion, rather than Sea-food? First off, walk with some air-freshener because this place smells like a darn FISH MARKET...it STINKS. I just don't get how you can sell crabs, lobster, clams etc. right next to a fake "sports bar" section. So you got a 3 for 1 deal here, soul food & seafood combo, stinky fish market, and a sports bar. If you can stomach the stench of fish while you eat go right ahead and dine-in. But I couldn't hold my nose and chew. I took my food to go, which was pretty much bland. The only thing good was the sweet potatoes. While the food was hot, the fried rice (or what looked to be friend rice) was very very oily. The place seems to have A LOT of Hispanic/Latino folks cooking/distributing the food...which tells it all. It AINT really Chinese seafood, but a mixture of everything.I like to sample the food joints in my area, but I was really disappointed in this spot! Next,

This place is hard to describe. It is best described as a large, more aesthetically pleasing Chinese/Asian food carryout that experimented with the menu by serving traditional "soul food" dishes instead of traditional Asian food dishes. Does that make sense? It has a "fast food" style set up, not a restaurant with a host and/or wait staff who come to your table and take your order. You walk in. You stand in line. You look through a window at various cooked dishes. You give 'em your order. You stand/sit in a waiting area. They scoop out your meal and put it in a white foam container. You can either go back to a table and eat it or leave. The place gives you no reason to stay. The place looks clean enough, with decent tables and chairs to share a quick meal. There is no music or ambiance, so don't expect much. There is no owner coming around to greet you or ask you how you are enjoying your meal. There are large flat screens on the walls. The clientele looks to be largely retirees or worn out working folks who'd rather not cook today and don't want McDonald's. The "soul food" is mass produced, and standardized - definitely NOT grandma's soul food. It offers dishes like fish, ribs, pork chops, meatloaf, chitterlings, fried chicken and more. The ribs are good and they are fairly juicy. The fried chicken wings were dried out, and I took them back and requested baked. Baked chicken was ok but not really juicy like I like it. The barbecued chicken isn't really great. I can't eat fish so I can't comment. There are vegetable side dishes like greens, cabbage, and sweet potatoes. I personally like the sweet potatoes and the collard greens. Greens could use some seasoning variety, but they suffice if you are hungry. The rest of the veggies don't look or taste that great. Portions are HUGE so you may get 2 meals out of the 1. There are lots of cakes and pies for dessert if you feel compelled to add even more calories. The desserts look "ok" - not designer cakes or bakery style cake, but standard cake flavors sliced and sold in plastic containers. You won't look at the cakes and hear them shouting your name - don't waste the calories. If you pass this place and you are hungry you will get a meal. If you live more than a mile away, you probably won't be a frequent flyer.

Pretty good fried seafood. The sides are hit or miss but the hush puppies are perfect. Lots of options. Staff is very friendly.

Very large selection. Most sides are premade on a hot bar so I guess the time of day will dictate freshness. I grabbed the fried shrimp with fries. Delicious. Large butterflied shrimp with a good portion of fries. I was shocked at the quality for the price (12 for 11.99). While I was waiting for my food I noticed the full service bar. I really did not expect that variety at a place like this. The seating for the bar didn't look like a place I'd want to sit at, though.

Had a carry out order for my first visit this past weekend. The food was good. I got catfish, Brussel sprouts, Mac n cheese and peach cobbler. My order was ready when I came in but there did seem to be a bit of a hold up at the register, it seemed to annoy quite a few other folks as well.

Solid seafood carry out. Full service liquor and beer plus raw bar. They give you a mountain of food. I had the grilled tilapia with two sides and it was perfect. Friends had the fried trout and the crab legs and they liked both. I can see what some people say about this place about the quality. Not everything is great but it you stick to fried fish or the seafood and the basic sides your good. Crab legs were on point.

Great new addition to the 'hood. Had myself a shrimp po' boy recently and the shrimp were generously sized and flavorful, with a breading that wasn't too heavy. And the price was right. A lot of space inside but most people seemed to be taking out. Would probably do the same as the atmosphere is pretty no-frills. 9 out of 10 for lunch!

My parents were in town and we ordered from this place for pick up, not realizing that it is essentially "fast food" seafood. Which, I guess, kind of makes sense in this neighborhood (although I'm not a fan). Cons: - Things come in the styrofoam containers that Chinese take out usually comes in, but they don't deliver. - Rice is yellow and terribly dry. Veggies taste soggy and canned. Fries were soggy. - The set up is like at Boston Market with all the sides sitting in a glass-cased counter. You order and then usually have to wait on the benches they have set up in the place. Long waits. - Fish comes with bones-in and was fried (even though it didn't specify that on the menu we ordered from, and they definitely didn't verify that that's how I wanted it). - Incredibly uncomfortable/tacky interior. This isn't a place to stop and eat with its wood benches and plastic chairs. Get take-out, and head home to be comfy. Pros: - The "stuffed shrimp" was pretty damn great - stuffed with fresh, lump crabmeat - hands down the best thing they offer there! - Good daily specials. I saw on the board they had "boken crab legs" for around $5/lb, which is pretty cheap in this area, so I ended up adding them to my order. Then, they actually turned out to be out of those, but since I had already paid, gave me non-broken ones anyway. Nice, right?! - Promixity - it's pretty close to my house which is convenient. Also near a CVS and two grocery stores if you need to run some errands too. All and all, I don't think I will be back. If I am though, I'd only get the stuffed shrimp or check out the daily specials on the board near the entrance for a cheap deal.

Ordered the grilled snapper with collards and Mac and cheese. Snapper was under seasoned and over cooked, slightly rubbery and almost no flavor. The collards once again no flavor. I was thinking the Mac and cheese would be baked but no, it was pretty much Velveeta and macaroni noodles. Large portions but not worth the $20 I spent. Bar inside was a good area to wait for my food. Bartender was nice.

Last night I was at Mid Atlantic Seafood Bar and Grill with my family and ordered food for 9 people. We all enjoyed our dinner served in less than 5 minutes...!!! Just the Alaskan King Crab Legs takes a bit longer because they where cooked while we started our platters of delicious dinner. All together took no more than 10 minutes to come to the table including natural fruits smoothies and selected beers. That's remarkably fast service...!!! So if you are hungry and didn't want to wait long; this is the place to go...!!!

Midatlantic Seafood Bar and Grill is a welcomed addition to the Mount Rainier neighborhood. The food is very good and T has magic hands at the bar. I've been coming here since opening day and have not been disappointed.

They have a very large selection to choose from, all very fresh. I got the grilled cod w/2 sides. It took a little time because they had to cook the fish to order. Most other food is ready to go.

I ordered there grilled scallops and shrimp picked it up and it was a container of rice , grilled veggies but only two very small shrimp and two scallops. No mention on the menus of greasy grilled veggies. Don't call ahead they will give you what the menu shows. By the way I had ordered two orders of this and both were the same sad meal. Just mention that they seamed disorganized when I got there couldn't find order I called in when it was in front of them. This is new to our neighborhood so maybe it will improve.

I really enjoyed my visit to this new Midatlantic location. The setup is just like the Laurel one. I know they only serve the freshest fish and you can even see some of the seafood in the cooler (not frozen!). I don't know of any other places where you can get this kind of seafood at their prices. If you're not in the mood for seafood, they have many other options. When I first walked in, I stood in line to order but I got to scope out all the dessert while I waited so I didn't mind. I ordered a fried whiting dinner with collard greens and lomein. It took about 10 minutes for my food to be ready. My fish was hot, crispy and so tasty!! Greens and lomein very tasty as well. And I got all the tartar sauce I wanted at the sauce bar. Overall, the restaurant is very clean with polite staff. There's also a full service bar with a very affordable happy hour menu. Tevaris, the bartender is friendly, fun to chat with, and makes great drinks. I definitely plan on going back!
