Lovely little restaurant. Staff is super nice and hearty! Food was great, fresh and plenty. Just a little bit to noisy but overall a good and affordable place to visit.

Working in the area today and needed a quick meal. Read yelp reviews and decided to give this place a try. Glad I did. I was able to eat a good meal in about 25 minutes total. Salsa and chips were yummy. Salsa was fresh and chunky with tomatoes and cilantro. I ordered the enchilada pollo. Lunch arrived before I finished my chips. Chicken and peppers were nicely seasoned inside enchilada. Guacamole was also fresh and tasty. The music was loud, too much since there were only a few people in the restaurant. U

Well - I did not see this coming - this place isn't that bad - perhaps 3.5 stars. I went here on a whim, and somewhat early so it was almost entirely empty except for some people at the bar. I was the only sit down order. The place itself is not terribly attractive - I don't think they care too much and not sure if they have any interest to invest in the atmosphere. The complimentary chips were quite good - I scarfed them down and probably spoiled my appetite a bit. That said, I did like the food and did not expect that. I ordered the veggie enchiladas which were not very greasy and seemed somewhat "healthier" than your typical Mexican restaurant. It came with a good amount of rice and beans as well as some salad - a good meal portion overall. I found the pricing very fair and the service was very good too (although I was the only one there in the dining area so would expect that! lol). As I referenced, they do have a bar area and perhaps that is where most people end up. I can see this place catching on - if I am ever in the area again I would like to give it another try - but not sure if I will be there in the near term. So, I would say the food and service is around 3.5 stars, but the atmosphere is closer to 2 stars.

Please note, that this review is for carryout only. Therefore, its a judgement on the food itself without much reference to service or anything else. Food was ready upon arrival, and the presentation was good. It was late Friday night - around 11pm, and I was sick of the usual Peruvian Chicken fare that is so readily available in the Langley Park area. I was feeling something different, and this place seemed to be celebrating a grand opening of sorts. Per Johannes T.'s recommendation, I tried the seafood pasta dish, and was not disappointed. Plentiful supply of shrimp and clams, and great flavor on the sauce. I also got an order of chips and salsa to go - the chips were fairly standard, but the salsa had a very unique flavor to it. It was fresh and had plenty of cilantro, though I think it could have been improved by being a bit less watery. Still, it was fresh and I am not complaining. I will be returning. I hope this place makes it!

El Paraiso is batting 5 for 5 ... 5 visits, all pretty awesome. Downside - liquor license pending, beer and wine only right now. Fully remodeled with ornate bar, but cafeteria setting. Service: Josue is amazing. His recommendations for food are consistently solid. We never want for drink or salsa refills. Food: I am a Mexican food snob (there, I said it) --- we have been there five times (need I say more?) The Paraiso Especial is to die for - a sauteed steak garnished with grilled, seasoned shrimp, grilled veggies(or on-plate salad), rice and beans for $16.95 (dinner price; lunch is $1 cheaper). Nothing else considered, that dish (had it four times) gets all five stars. The chicken burrito plate (my other meal) - also good, but not nearly as exciting. On the other side of the table: My Mrs reps for the vegetarians of the world. She has allowed me to return here multiple times because she feels the same way about the veggie enchiladas that I do about the Especial (did I already post about the Especial?...yummmm) Location: El Paraiso is right on New Hampshire Ave in a little shopping center (Sheridan St is the cross street) that, like most in the area, looks a little suspect as you drive by. Solution: Don't drive by - STOP! (you'll be glad that you did)

Stopped by to check out this new place. It was empty, save for a few guys having some beer in the back. But the staff was very friendly and welcoming. It's fairly sparsely decorated but the bar area is nice. They don't serve liquor (yet). The food was very fresh, from the salsa to guac. I had some veggie enchiladas. They were not the best I've ever had (sauce could have been more flavorful) but it had plenty of fresh veggies in it and overall the dish was good and priced right. I would have preferred cheese enchilada and a black bean taco bit honestly, this was good and I'm sure i'll go back. My only real gripe is that the place is almost set up as a nightclub. They have two huge speakers bolted to the wall and they had Latin radio blaring the entire time I was trying to eat, even though the place was empty. But again...nice people, fresh food, good prices. Spice up that sauce a bit and they'll have a good thing going.

You need to get yourself to this new place. The food is great and the service is really friendly. We started with some beer from El Salvador that came in a quart bottle. It was ok. It was beer. Then we had some chile con queso with our chips. It was quite tasty. It had one of those flavors that seemed like there was some ingredient that you couldn't place. I guessed it was made with beer but I'm not sure. The salsa that came with it was very fresh and delicious. I could have eaten a gallon of it. I got the seafood pasta dish that was completely awesome. It was loaded with clams and mussels that were perfectly cooked along with shrimp and calamari. The shrimp were large and well cooked and the calamari was also perfectly cooked, not too chewy. The sauce brought it all together and made you literally go "mmm mmm mmm." Anyway, this thing was chocked with perfectly cooked seafood and it was totally delicious. The best part, it was only $12.95. My girlfriend had the chimichanga. It was definitely a good one as chimichangas go. She said it was the best one she's had in the DC area and she's a real chimichanga aficionado. The whole time we were there this guy was singing Spanish songs and he could actually sing. The guy had a good voice and it added to the whole atmosphere for sure. The place is new so everything is new and clean. Oh by the way, in the men's room there are pictures of Jennifer Lopez on the wall. Hey, why not? If you want killer food at great prices you need to try this place. New Edit: We've been back several times since the first time that led to the above review and would now like to amend the review. Be aware that when there is karaoke going on, the beers are $5 instead of $4 or $3.75. They do not tell you this and it's not on the menu. I think it's not cool of them to keep quiet on this. You should not be charged more than the listed price without being told that the actual price is higher. For this, I've taken a star off this review. But, the food is still great. The service is a bit slower than I'd like, though, which also contributes to the reduced starrage.
