Not sure of all of the negative reviews on this one. The atmosphere is pretty good. They have fantastic specials on glasses of wine(Glasses of a tasty Malbec for $4). They provide good hamburgers including Bison, which is a rare treat. I would much rather get a bison burger from this small restaurant and bar than Looney's up the street. Looney's, which does a ton of business, makes garbage food. I will be going here instead of Looney's for happy hour with coworkers. Better prices and better food. Not sure why people don't like it. I think it is quaint.

Decent drink specials and a small town bar atmosphere and very laid back. If you're looking for a nice hangout bar, this would be a good place to check out. It is kind of hidden so the location might hurt the reviews a little.

My fiancée and I decided to try out Twist and Turn for lunch yesterday after his coworkers gave the place rave reviews.. We don't know what they were talking about because our meal was nothing to write home about. While the service was very good, but the food was just ok (certainly not worth the price we paid). Can't speak for the bar because neither one of us really drink. I had the steak wrap; the Twist mayo is a little over-spiced for my taste. He had a simple burger with sweet potato fries (which were very soggy). I WILL say their homemade potato chips were very good, as were the mozzarella sticks (I think they're called Half Moons) and the marinara sauce. But for what we paid, we could have gone to our favorite pool hall, had a better meal and played a couple rounds of pool. We won't be going back to the Twist & Turn Tavern..

This place has had it's ups & downs lately, mostly downs. But, it has always had a good bar, & it's a pleasant neighborhood place. I've been returning once or twice a year, hoping that they would get the food straight, they may have turned the corner. The menu has been pared down, & the only special was crab cake sliders. Mixed drinks & wine were, as usual, good drinks & reasonably priced. A house salad was delicious, with nice freshly chopped veggies. But, it was tiny, barely enough for 1, & not cheap. The honey mustard dressing ordered turned out to be Russian dressing. We stuck with burgers, usually a safe choice. They were excellent, cooked exactly as ordered. But, the bacon was rare so it was sent back. The kitchen cooked the bacon so quickly that the fries were still hot when it returned. The fries were outstanding. If you don't order fries, you get house made chips dusted with too much JO Crab Seasoning. An attentive waitress helped make this a pleasant meal. Will still be a while before I trust them for an entrée.

I've been to twist and turn a few times now and a took a look at some of the almost universally bad reviews and although they make some good points I do think it's a lot better then 2 stars( its current composite score). The Place It pretty small a little between. It's kind of in between a bar and family restaurant. The staff is very friendly and they seem to have a lot of regulars who they know by name. The Food Good not great. For a place that small that predominately a bar it's definitely better than you would expect. They make a good burger good fries and homemade potato chips. Tips A lot of people seem to complain about the prices here and it is a little overpriced but they do run some great specials. They always have a legit craft beer(Serria Nevada, Dogfish etc) on happy hour special for around $3. Tuesday is 1/2 price burger night and is definitely worth the trip. Overall Ya I'll be back there. Twisit and Turn is a solid place to get a beer and a burger and while Its not overwhelmingly great but its beats Looney's by a mile.

I'm a huge fan of Twist & Turn and have been coming here for some time. I would note that it's gone through a couple management changes which is the reason behind some of the negative reviews. That said the new management has corrected the ship and it's back to where it was if not better. The servers all butt their butts and I haven't a bad one yet. Alexis waited on us tonight and we had great service. My kids love coming here and it's a Friday night go to. It does it busy so get there before 6:30/7.

I came here with some girlfriends and it was located in a nice little enclosed shopping center. We came during happy hour and it was half off martinis. I ordered the house martini and when it came, it tasted awful. It didn't taste like vermouth, it tasted like everclear. I had it switched out with a margarita but that was only so-so. I ordered the 6oz Crab Cake Sandwich which is served on a roll with a side of cole slaw for $16. It was only average with too much filling and not enough crab meat. The decor was nice and had a good cozy bar atmosphere but if they had better food and drinks, I would come back :)

Sounds good, looks good, but on Sunday lunch they only serve brunch. Not what we wanted. Maybe next time we come through this area we'll try again.

I like TNT for so many reasons. Those reasons generally surround the people who run, own, and frequent the establishment; not in any particular order. I genuinely like the food, but admit I do not go there for that primary reason. I go because if you show up once or 355 times, Dauphene, Sam, Erin, Marsha, Loren, Scott and others will remember who you are and what you need--a beer, a burger, or whatever it is. My suggestion when coming to TNT is to follow the 3 rules of "restaurant love": 1. If you have really, really high expectations, lower them! This ain't the Highland Inn. Oops, they're gone, right? 2. Satisfaction is a drink or two away....and a burger too! After two of Sam's Sangrias, you will be feeling like the night is young and that you have found Heaven in Highland. Same goes for the exceptional burgers! 3: This rule is a bit too politically incorrect to discuss here, but if you ever run into me at TNT (I sit in the corner next to Hugo), I will gladly elaborate. Simply, the TNT is a fun place with people inside and out that make it worth the visit. .

This place is probably my favorite bar. The food hits the spot. It's always a good time. The people are cool and fun to talk to. It is a relaxed place to bring the kids. The waitresses bring them little chalkboards to draw - always friendly. When I get a chance, it is always fun to hang out at the bar!

I haven't been there for a couple of years. It used to be our go to place. New management let it go downhill. Today I was hoping they had their act together, nope. Even though it was pretty much empty, my food came out cold and the fries tasted like they were left over from last night. Disappointed. They could use restaurant impossible. Just saying.

Well now they have dropped Happy Hour specials. They used to have discounted appetizers, beer etc. No more! A few beers are .50 off. I paid $4.50 for a Yuengling. $12.99 for crab dip that was mushy & no crab meat. Appetizers are full price. WTH? Too many other places in the area with HH specials & a good atmosphere. Don't bother with Twist & Turn.

Ew what a nasty place. My shoes got stuck to floor. We got seated and waited for service. No one came. Another couple walked in, got seared and served. We walked out.

Went here with co-workers and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I got the Black n Bleue burger and the burger was homemade and delicious! Their spicy ranch like saw has just the right amount of kick and their black and tan beer battered onion rings were the perfect accompaniment to the meal. Will have to come back again!

First off, management is terrible. The lady manager working tonight of average build with a tight brunette bun was a complete "b." The menu printed the crab cake prices at half off. The sever was probably new to serving and didn't know how to handle anything, including forgetting to give us straws and giving us a mostly empty bottle of ketchup. But back to the manager, she argued with me that the menu printed incorrectly. I said well it's here so you should honor it and she said she had to check, but boy did she have attitude, and who was she checking with anyway? I was blown away how inappropriate rude and argumentative she was. She finally hastily came over and said fine she'll honor the price, but she charged me at the reduced cost and my dad got the same meal and they didn't discount him. He said it wasn't worth the fight. Then back to the server, she brought out my dad the wrong side (he ordered a salad and she gave him broccoli) and didn't know what the actual sides were on the menu. So, she just was completely clueless and every time I saw her at another table she was escorted by a more experienced waitress. So, I guess she just needed help in general. Now that we've established the service is abysmal, there's the food. The crab cake was mostly bread but didn't taste horrible except it was cold. The broccoli was fine. The fries were "sitting around forever" taste and consisted of tiny overcooked pieces so probably at the bottom of the crisper. Just not great food at all. Then the check. My dad had a points reward card and they said they didn't honor it anymore even though they did less than a few weeks ago. They changed management again so no discount rewards, no more 75 cent wings, no more chicken quesadillas, and a misprinted menu full of lies. The server seemed to have no idea how to run the check either so it took a while. So come here if you want crappy service and a headache for sub-par food.

Twist & Turn, you've lost a loyal customer. I have always had mixed experiences with Twist & Turn for the 5+ YEARS I have been eating there. I always give the benefit of the doubt, especially since I know management has been switching over time, etc. Yesterday was the last straw. First of all, it was father's day. Second of all, it was my birthday (not that this mattered to the staff, or really should, but I wanted to go somewhere for birthday brunch in good faith that I'd have a happy experience). I showed up around 12:30 to the place being mostly empty, which I have gotten used to, and to be honest, something that kept me coming back. My friend and I sat ourselves outside, since although there were about 3 waitresses floating around, no one spoke to us - something I am also used to. After sitting outside on the "new patio" at a high top, a disheveled hostess brought us one menu because she "couldn't find anymore".....? In addition, half of the tables on the patio hadn't been cleared from previous diners, and stayed dirty for over 30 minutes. I found this amusing because a group of 6 showed up for father's day brunch, wanted to sit outside, and were told by the same hostess that they "needed to wait 20 - 30 minutes" because there was "so much going on". There were MAYBE 2 tables full inside, and like I said, half of the tables outside were just sitting under dirty dishes with no one at them. The table of 6 that showed up also were told they had to "wait in the parking lot" because there "wasn't enough room" for them to stand inside. What a joke. Back to my meal.... we got some mediocre iced tea, which came out in a timely fashion. I wanted to order an appetizer off the main menu, and was told I could wait until 1pm to do so, but they only make "brunch items" until 1pm to avoid "cross contaminating" the kitchen appliances. What? We started laughing because her "cross contamination" excuse would have been better left unsaid, she could have just said "we don't serve off the brunch menu until 1pm" or "our chefs are too incompetent to handle multiple things at once"... oh wait, she told us that later (just wait for it). I ordered the: BURRITO OMELET Three eggs scrambled with grilled peppers & onions, wrapped in a soft tortilla & topped with cheddar jack cheese & salsa $9.99 with wheat toast and a side of bacon. and my friend ordered the TEXAS POACHED EGGS Two poached eggs atop a pile of pulled pork and onion rings with home made salsa $11.99 with an English Muffin Fail... fail... fail. First of all, considering the place was like 2/3 EMPTY, our food took OVER 45 minutes to NOT show up. Really? I finally went and spoke to the manager, who is usually hiding at his computer in the back and has a considerable lack of people skills. As soon as I walked in looking irritated, he goes "I know, I know" and runs to the kitchen. He then brings out our "food". Stone. Cold. Not even "oh we forgot about your meal but don't worry it's been sitting on hot plates, so we at least attempted to keep it lukewarm for you". Just... cold. Wrong toast for my friend, no toast for me, no bacon. His "Texas Poached Eggs" were horribly overdone (hard boiled status) and cold to boot. Pulled pork looked greasy and gross, "onion rings" soggy. Oh, and he didn't get salsa either. I got salsa though! I got half a dixie cup filled with pink water and two little chunks of tomato. My "burrito" was there too, in all of its frozen glory. The peppers and onions were clearly NOT grilled, and the "cheddar jack cheese" on top was... crusted? It didn't even look like cheese. Not sure what was going on with that. Needless to say, we didn't eat. We waited 45 minutes to not eat crappy food. Frankly, it was disgusting. The waitress came over to ask "how everything turned out", and I was halfway through reading her my riot act when she goes "I know, I know, brunch isn't really our...'thing;... I'm so sorry. Let me talk to the manager." Two employees who both say "I know, I know, when approached about something being wrong? Doesn't bode well. The manager didn't even have the cahones to come out and apologize, or do the whole "customer service" thing that managers are SUPPOSED to be so great at. He sent our meek waitress back who said "You can go. I'll clean all this up." No permission needed! We were out of there ASAP - thankfully Ledo's is right down the street. Seriously Twist & Turn, get it together. This was the final straw in a long series of mishaps that I have experienced at your restaurant. Your non-extensive brunch menu is NOT complicated, your waitstaff are highly incompetent and lack timeliness and customer service, your kitchen is not going to be "cross-contaminated" from preparing multiple dishes at the same time. When your OWN STAFF admit "brunch isn't our thing" - either fix it ASAP or stop serving it. Oh, and maybe your manager should stop hiding behind his computer and face all of the pissed off customers.

This place was not good as the food was below average and there really was nothing of note that would make this any better than a local three star restaurant...... Look elsewhere

We went their Tuesday night for 1/2 price burger night. The restaurant was clean, the service was awesome and we had a great time. I heard the place was under new management and you certainly could tell. We will be back soon, I think Thursday is 1/2 price Prime Rib night.

I have had mixed experiences the few times I have been here. The food isn't bad, if it comes that is. Maybe a bit pricey. Last time I was here with my family and we had such terrible service that we swore we would never come back. Our food took forever to come out, and when it finally did many of us didn't get what we ordered. Our waitress was pretty unhelpful. I give two stars because the food isn't awful, just the service.

I went here expecting an easy, lunch but that is hardly what I got. It took them a good 6 minutes before I got my drink and then another 35 minutes until I got my burger. The food itself is great but the service and management is anything but satisfactory.

I have been coming here off and on since the place opened since I have lived in Highland for the last 10 years. This place has a good atmosphere and decent food for the most part. The décor is nice for a neighborhood place and they recently opened an outdoor patio. As most of the reviews indicate the service is hit or miss. The ownership of the bar seems to rotate partners pretty often. You can tell it isn't professionally managed. Nonetheless, it is a fine place to grab a beer and some bar food. Had the crab soup and chili on most recent visit and both were very good. The wings were fatty, slightly undercooked and the sauce pooled on the bottom of the plate. Certainly not the best effort on wings. I'll keep coming every other month but prefer the Ten Oaks Tavern a few miles away for better food consistency and the best crab soup in Maryland.

Terrible restaurant, terrible bar, terrible service. I have been to this place several times because they have great deals for burgers on a certain day of the week. But any time I have ordered food there I have to constantly ask for sauces or any sort of condiments. Food is ok, but not at all worth dealing with the place. Most of the time they don't even know what's on their own menu. Bar tenders don't even know how to make typical cocktails or special shots. They only know how to poor beers. If you are thinking of calling in an order to go, DONT BOTHER! Every time I have done this I have to retell them my order when I get there to pick it up. Then I have to wait for my food another half an hour. This place is the smallest bar around town and the loudest. If you want to be at a bar for the night go to Loonies. This place is louder and far more cramped.

I travel a lot for business and get to try new and interesting places for dinner or drinks after a long day. When in the Baltimore area recently, had the great fortune to come across Twist and Turn Tavern. My colleagues and I found the bar and atmosphere to be very welcoming, the menu has great selections for bites or a meal. We thought we'd have a quick drink and head out and ended up staying the entire evening! Great food - sliders and mussel frites are terrific openers. I had a Bison burger perfectly prepared and wonderful sweet potato fries. Our bartender Dauphene was fantastic, kept us content with fresh and perfectly prepared cocktails and quick food service. If you get a chance, make sure you stop by, you won't be disappointed!!

The Tavern is always a fun and relaxing atmosphere. The mix between friendly regulars and first time patrons never disappoints. The bartender Dauphene can pour a great drink and she is lots of fun to talk to. Try the tuna bite things.

Wow....surprised at all the negative reviews. I would give it a 3.5 if I could. Hubs and I went here for the first time last night and grabbed a bite to eat before a concert. Atmosphere was better than anticipated and they were on happy hour when we got there...PLUS! We ordered some drinks and a couple of sandwiches. I had the Reuben and although it wasn't the BEST Reuben I've ever had....it was pretty darn good. The corned beef was super tender, the sauerkraut wasn't overwhelming and the marbled rye was grilled. I hate when a Reuben is put on untouched bread. It MUST be at least toasted but better when the whole sandwich is grilled like a grilled cheese. The fries were really good and crispy...not too potatoey. Hubs had a prime rib sandwich which was almost a steak and cheese with au jus. Au jus was super tasty and the sandwich was good. Service was spot on and overall, I liked it. We'll for sure be back.

First visit to Twist and Turn. I was hopeful that this would be a great place to visit on a regular basis. The margarita was watery, served in the wrong glass, no salt. Manhattans were worse. Crab dip marginal, Maryland crab soup foul tasting with little crab, Italian sausage sandwich okay. Will definitely not go back. It's well worth the trip to drive further to Beck's.

Went to Still Point Yoga - excellent. When we; wife, friend Kevin and myself, came out of the yoga class there was this amazing smell of burgers in the air. After a brief search we located the Twist and Turn Tavern right downstairs. We decided we were hungry and lets give it a shot. The decor is very nice with a horse type theme that fits the local area. The bathrooms were clean. The service was prompt and courteous. The waitress/bartender was friendly and upbeat. The downside here was it is very loud. I did not hear my cell phone at all. We all went with the bacon cheddar burger. I went with the house made chips and Wife and Kevin both went with sweet potato fries. The Waitress / Bartender brought us a complimentary bowl of house made potato chips. They were better then store bought chips but only a little. Far too oily but a decent flavor. Unfortunately the chips were the best thing we had. The burgers were not bad but at $13 I expect a damn good burger. This was an ok burger. The sweet potato fries were pretty good, but for a $2 up-charge not nearly good enough. As far as beer...they did have beer...but not much of a selection. The miller lite was cold and only $2 a glass so that was worth a star. I won't say I will never be back but....

Bad. Bad. Bad! The atmosphere isn't bad here, and there's nothing else in the area, really...maybe that's the problem. The service we experienced was LAME...I've known 8 year olds who handled food service with more grace AND speed. Sadly, we were only one of two couples in the whole place (should have been a clue, I know!) so we expected a little bit of attention. Could not get a glass of tea, and when we were (SO) ready to leave, we could not get the check because our "waitress" was too busy chatting up a guy at the bar about last night's Irish Car Bombs. The food was the worst part, though. Seriously? My $10 salad looked like something that was leftover from a guest before me, earlier in the day. The "chicken breast" on top looked like a single slice of lunch meat but had less flavor. My husband's fish tacos were basically fried fish fillets in tortillas. Nothing decent to accompany it, zero creativity. WHAT are they thinking here???

Food is ok, service is ok and prices are way too high. I paid $11.99 for a turkey wrap which in my opinion is too high for what I got.

Good bar with good beer and decent food. The prices are a little steep however not unreasonable, but that's to be expected due to location. Many TVs to watch sports on and the staff is polite and courteous.

Been here a few times now, I enjoy the decor and the weight staff has always been friendly and reliable. The food comes out looking good and tastes great. It is pretty standard fair but all well done. Finally the drinks are cheap, its like a nice country bar. Only criticism is the prices could be lowered a bit.

  • Dan C.

Food is generally overpriced for what you get. $7 for a bowl of mediocre Maryland crab soup and $13+ for some of the burgers is nuts. I've been at least a dozen times due to proximity and service seems to get worse each time. There always seems to be an issue with the bill every time I go. I love horse racing and I want to like the restaurant but I can't...

Local Tavern with an excellent beer selection and specials. Local ownership. Excellent burgers, fajitas, fish and chips. Sometimes loud with music and MLIF-singles and other times is a family place. Cold Great beer on tap, burgers and food for kids. Perfect neighborhood place.

  • Chris S.

Simply awful.... Tomato sauce from a jar which tastes like it was kept open in the refrigerator (my kids would not even eat their pasta). The quesadillas that are as bland as bland can be and the steak in them was like rubber it was so thick and chewy, not to mention it tasted like the steak as steamed! -- YUK! I really wanted this place to be good.

Disappointed again. My husband and I stopped in last night for sandwich and a beer. Although the service was good, we found that once again the food was not worth eating. This was my third attempt at a meal at Twist and Turn, a pub close to home. We ordered nachos as an appetizer -- which were prepared with gooey melted imitation-style cheese similar to the nachos you see at 7-11, and a chicken sandwich made up of dry thick chunks of chicken that tasted like they were left over from the day before on a dry roll with a few slices of tasteless tomato. Even the home-made chips were dry and stale. Needless to say, we drank our beer, which was very cold and delicious and headed home. On the way out of the door we saw several people coming out of a Subway sandwich shop next door. Sadly, on the way home we both commented that the folks who chose Subway were likely enjoying their dinner much more than we did. One other note about Twist and Turn. The noise level is very loud, even when there are only a few slightly rowdy patrons at the bar. When there is a crowd, the noise level is deafening. The floor is tile which causes sound to bounce all over the place. If you want to be able to hold a conversation, you may want to consider another venue.

Had been eyeing this place for a long time and finally tried it. Walked in and had to wait for anyone to seat us for a while even though it was not busy and tables were open. Finally got sat. Ordered drinks, an app and two burgers-I had to order mine well done since i am pregnant. App came out timely. Waited at least twenty minutes for burgers. Took 20 minutes for a second beer to come. Too bad, husband would have prob had a third if second didn't take so long. My burger came out raw, of course. Had to send back and still wasn't cooked all the way through. I sucked it up and ate most of it. Then our waitress's shift was over so she could hang out with some friends who surprised her. No one ever came back. Sat twenty minutes (20 seems to be a theme). Almost walked out on a check for the first time. We continuously begged random waiters for the check. One finally brought it and asked if we enjoyed. I made a face but he hightailed it out of there before I could answer. Don't ask if you truly don't care. Will not go back and will NOT recommend. Food was not worth it.

    (3)
  • Johnny B.

  • Peggy Lyn S.

Bad. Bad.

    (1)
  • Steven S.

Good bar with good beer and decent food. The prices are a little steep however not unreasonable, but that's to be expected due to location. Many TVs to watch sports on and the staff is polite and courteous.

    (4)
  • Brian S.
