I know it may seem trite to write a review for a local fast-food chain, but for the past three years that I've been visiting, this place has had the friendliest employees! I only go maybe once per month, but most of the times I visit, I get the best people helping me. The food is the same quality as other locations and it's usually not too crowded.

Simmons Homemade Ice Cream Store

2841 Snydersburg Rd
Hampstead, 21074
Reviews:
They only have four flavors available at a time. Chocolate, vanilla, and two others that vary with the seasons. Right now (summer!), they have fresh raspberry (from "the farm down the street") and peach. The chocolate was lovely and rich, not too sweet. Just right. The raspberry was wonderful as well. Not only is the ice cream top-notch, the ambience is awesomely old-timey cool. Dark wood interiors, glass cases. Owls of all sorts everywhere! It's a little slice of Americana that was a joy to experience! In business for 88 years, the current owner is the great-grandson of the original propietors. His great-granddaughter was there this weekend, and she's as cute as all get out. :) They're open 7 days a week, with hours varying according to the season. Most nights, they're open till 8 or so, and their opening hours vary.

Greenmount Station

1631 N Main St
Hampstead, 21074
Reviews:
We had purchased a discount coupon for Greenmount Station some time back, and noticed it was about to expire. So on the spur of the moment, we decided to give it a try for lunch early in the week. First impression was in the parking lot - the only spaces left were reserved for the bank. And don't think about parking at the bowling alley lot adjacent, as signs warn you that you will be towed. But they did have extra spaces (overflow, as the posting said) at a building next door. We took this as a positive, all the spaces taken early in the week for lunch with loyal patrons. My wife is a vegetarian, and at first glance thought the choices slim for her dietary restriction. But they had a good deal of sides, so she was able to make a meal out of 2 sides and a salad. She especially enjoyed the grilled asparagus, paring it with the aforementioned fresh crispy salad and a baked sweet potato cooked well enough the sugars began to caramelize - a plus. I started with a cup of Maryland Crab Soup. The portion was small, but loaded with vegetables and a good spicy flavor. I followed it up with a sandwich comprised of half jumbo lump crab cake (very little filler) and nicely spiced shrimp salad on rye. Our coupon was for $30, and our tab came to ~$26. I was ready to just give he waitress tip money and forget about the difference, and was a bit taken aback when our server said we couldn't use the coupon unless we spent at least $30. REALLY???? But the lunch was too good to argue, so we ordered a piece of cooked cheesecake to go (which was enjoyed later that day) and we do plan to go back without a coupon.
Excellent! First time in this place you never know when you are hungry and on the road Yelp to the rescue. This place is so cozy, clean, decoration on top love it. Great Costumer service since you enter to this place. No wondering why the parking lot was full. Try any crab cake with sweet yummy potato fries.
Greenmount Station can be outstanding; and sometimes, you wish you only stood outside!! I've lived in the area for over 20 years and have eaten here many, many times. The fries are always good! So is the grilled asparagus. The beer too. My favorite meal is the Shrimp Alashus sandwich on whole wheat toast with LTMFO. Ask for extra seafood seasoning. I usually always get this. The numerous dinners we've had often leave you hungry. For the money, there is a lot of empty space on the increasingly smaller plates they use. The food is tasty, but nothing that stops your chewing to savor. It seems like they are heading to more sandwiches and bar fare. Maybe the money is better. It's a shame; before there was Yelp, I'd yelp about their seafood entrees!! They have a lot of signs about their crab cakes. Most folks I've taken there are disappointed by the dollop of crab meat you get for the money. WHY do I keep going back? Why is it so crowded all the time? How have they have expanded so much over the years? It is a good, upscale bar food place. You will like what you get. The service is great. They have lots of specials and weekday coupon deals. I would go for 3.5 stars. Try it.

Our favorite pizza place in town (and we have tried them all)! They have great subs and the calzone is my absolute favorite! Even my super picky MIL loves it too!
Great place to eat! Love the grilled chicken on focaccia bread sandwich. Their pizza is also delicious. Big portions for a very reasonable price. And the services was great!! Been here at least 5 times and each time it has been a great experience.
Always great food and good prices. Their specials are always great too.

Fratelli’s

I went back an ate in the restaurant proper just last night. We arrived a few minutes after 6pm on what had been a snowy day, and it was far from crowded-- one other table in the dining room when we arrived, and a handful of people eating in the bar area. It filled some while we were there, but was never crowded. The house cabernet, served in a carafe, was fine, if not wonderful. The salad and breadsticks were excellent. At our table we had the seafood alfredo, the lasagna, and the evening's special of Rockfish Chesapeake over linguine. The seafood was delicious... the sauce was good enough, but I firmly believe they can do better. The special was delightful. We took two pieces of the in-house made tiramisu home, and it was marvelous (again). The service was a hair on the slow side, but so pleasant I can't even pretend to be mad about it. The music was definitely louder than it needed to be, but we adapted. Still the best italian food in Hampstead. And we have a lot of options.
I will gladly give Fratelli's five stars. I noticed some "yelpers"on here that give bad reviews everywhere they go. That being said- my husband and I enjoyed Fratelli's very much. Our service was fantastic and the food was delicious. I got the crab cake stuffed portobello mushroom with shrimp and pasta. My husband got the steak and crab cake. Their crab cakes really are some of the best I have ever had anywhere. The clams casino were very different from what I've had before but still very good. I would get them again. The menu had so many choices and the restaurant was clean and decorated nicely. There were kids and adults and the dress was casual but it seems some people were celebrating in a back room so it looked like they can hold a lot of people. The parking lot is very large so no worries there. I can't wait to go back!
So good! I am a big believer in customer service. If the food is sub par but the service is awesome, it doesn't even matter! The lump crab meat is amazing and they definitely don't skimp on it. Bread and salad is good too, and is included with your meal. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area again!!

Hampstead Diner

Hampstead Diner is a nice little diner tucked a little bit off Main Street. I've only been there on weekends and business seems to be pretty brisk in the morning. Service is down home Baltimore dinery with "hons" abound. Part of the reason I've only gone on a weekend is that they close relatively early during the week and are only open until 7pm Fri/Sat. That's ok, breakfast and lunch seem to be their wheelhouse anyway. Their breakfast is pretty good with the standard bacon, eggs, etc. fare but they also have some interesting pancake combinations. Overall their breakfast is a good value and pretty tasty. Not quite as good as Dutch Corner in Manchester, but not too far off. I have had a few of their lunch/dinner dishes. Overall, they were solid, but nothing special. Except for the hot dogs...sweet jesus are those things good. The platter gives you 2 fried in butter dogs topped with chili mustard and onion along with fries. Man I'm getting hungry just thinking about them. They have a nice selection of shakes that I'm usually too full to try but I hear the maple bacon shake is a thing of beauty. A good spot for a leisurely casual weekend breakfast or lunch with family and friends.
We had a lazy Sunday morning and a Groupon for the restaurant. The place is small but cozy. Loved the interaction with others. Food was what you'd expect from a Diner. Coffee was good, creamed chipped beef over biscuits with scrambled eggs also good. My wife had a sandwich and it was very good. My favorite was the hand pressed sausage patty and the desert pancake we shared. Caramel Apple Pancake.
This is what a local diner should be. I stopped into Hampstead for business today and wondered if there was a good place for a quick, cheap, tasty lunch. Being a small town, I was hoping for a diner and got a very good one. The staff is friendly but efficient, the patrons clearly know the place and the people who work there, and the food was good! The menu was diner-complete but not as daunting as some diners - front and back of one very colorful sheet. I had a deviled-egg salad sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries... both very good. The coffee was tasty and came in a proper heavy white mug. Alas, my meat-eating days are in the past but all the standards were there (Reubens, clubs, burgers, etc) and it looked like you could get breakfast with any style of egg under the sun.

Dean’s Restaurant

832 S Main St
Hampstead, 21074
Reviews:
Don't bother.... everything there (except the prices) are 70 years old. The food, the servers and the silk flowers and paneling... all circa 1940 and the very worst of 1940. The ladies room had patio furniture and no door? It was a weird experience.
Dean's was very busy on this, the first Friday in December...but they found a table for two in the back room toward the bar area. Let me say up front that if you are looking for a modern, hip place full of young people you will no doubt be disappointed. Yes, the decor is older and it is a little boisterous when everyone gets talking at the same time, but it's where the locals hang out so the atmosphere is comfortable. I ordered the stuffed crab dish, which came with the salad bar and a potato of choice, all of which were tasty. All meals come with a plate of fritters and the powdered sugar is right on the table to be added as you like. Our waiter was friendly and helpful and all our foods were delivered hot and without delay. Been there several times now and every time I have walked away satisfied.
Really really love to support local small biz BUT... This is the 2nd time in there, the food is very very pricey for the joint (not updated decor / dish is but average) & then the waitress charge me a seafood meal I did not even have. Sure enough, I have to tell her to take it off & come to find out... the person that ate that dish is sitting right behind me... (don't know if they knew each other thus stick me with the bill??? But anyhow, that hush hush make it sounds like it.) The next day, the CC was charged with a 20% tip on it???? I paid that tip in CASH... so why should any business charge me more than what I wrote on the receipt??? So it all sounds very very fishy to me. So any future visit... a caution to all patrons... CHECK that receipt & DOUBLE CHECK with your CC company that the "correct" amount is charged on your card. No, will never go there again & will keep an eye out for the waitress from a future "ID fraud" if there is more "questionable" charges to my CC! Just a bad taste in my mouth... that whole experience! Food = Ave... if that. Service = Below Ave. have to ask multiple time to get my drinks refilled. Decor = needs updating BAD!
