Interesting little bistro. Wide variety of sandwiches. I had the open face Tuna Melt. It was ok. Buddy got the Rueben which was much better. Excellent service by an outstanding waitress.

I've been to Rhubarb House several times for lunch but went for dinner with my husband this past Friday night. The restaurant is a delightful setting. Care has been taken to decorate the interior. The server was very friendly but it looked like she had the entire restaurant to serve and that resulted in the service being slow...for us. Another couple came in after us, got their order taken and their food served before our drinks arrived (to be fair we did have to ask for a moment to decide on our drink order, but then the server didn't come back for awhile). Someone else mentioned in another review getting only one cracker with a cheese appetizer. We received two crackers for two large hunks of brie (which was fantastic). It was a little surprising to get so few crackers and so we just asked for more crackers. They were delivered...no big whoop. My husband ordered a burger with Gorgonzola and grilled onions. He said it was good. I order the salmon that someone else mentioned in another review. It was okay. I agree that it was overcooked. The sauce was tasty, however. I think the salmon dish might be slightly over priced given the portion size. I can completely overlook everything else because they fulfilled my special request to have their chocolate martini heated. (It was an especially cold and blustery night). My hot chocolate martini was perfectly prepared with chocolate chips in the bottom of the mug and sprinkled on the top.

Good bacon cheddar burger on a pretzel roll following a crab dip starter that was delish! The chicken salad is creamy and tasty with red grapes and pecans. Cute eatery with two cozy levels and street views. Clean, friendly service, some oversized seating for sitting and enjoying a hot drink. Highly recommended, return trip planned.

A little highfalutin' for H-Town, but it's pretty decent. Tomato bisque is good, but creamy. Prices a bit high, but it won't break the bank every once in a while. Probably could stand to lose a little pretension in the service and make it a little more friendly. I mean, this is Hagerstown, not Annapolis.

The best BLT I have ever had! Fresh tomato from the garden and thick cut bread and bacon. I love the cozy atmosphere here, it's like going to a friends kitchen for a great lunch or dinner. The staff is very friendly and the food is excellent! I have never had a bad meal here.

My wife and I had lunch there a few weeks ago. We sat at a high-top by the windows on a sunny day. The atmosphere was pleasant. We sat for about 5 minutes when the lone server got to our table. She took our order, our drinks came right away and we waited maybe 15 minutes for our sandwiches. The food was fair at best and the server didn't get back to check on us. There were may 3 other parties in the place that we observed, but the server seemed harried. It didn't help that a woman fell on the steps leading down to the dining area, but this was about two minutes before we were ready to leave. I asked the server if it was customary for only one server to be on at lunch, and she indicated that it was but today "had just been busy." I doubt if we'll try this place again as the whole experience was pretty ordinary.

Went Valentines Day with another couple. The table was nicely decorated for the occasion. Our waitress was very sweet and friendly. This place has a great vibe. I ordered the steak and crab cake and both were amazing! There was absolutely no filler in the crab cake and the steak was cooked perfectly and very tender. I almost went back the next night ;) I'm looking forward to my next visit. I recommend this restaurant.

While traveling from DC to Cleveland, I searched for a place for lunch, something other than fast food. We were so pleased with The Rhubarb House. All 5 of us, including 3 teenagers, had outstanding meals for lunch and delicious desserts. The food was terrific, the place was darling and the staff was so friendly. It is pretty far off of the interstate but well worth the drive for a delicious meal.

I went with my mother in law on a Friday night. I was surprised it wasn't busier, but didn't mind really that it wasn't. My mother in law was ecstatic over their crab offerings, which I couldn't have due to an allergy, but she was really happy with both the crab bisque which she said was full of chunks of crab, and the crab quesadilla. I ordered the Thai salmon which came out decorated with a yummy Parmesan "fan" and a side of green beans and red potatoes. It didn't really taste very Thai to me, but it was really good, and the price wasn't bad either. They don't have a very extensive wine list, but they are small, so didn't expect them to. I had a decent Pinot Noir for only $5. We shared a nice brie and fruit appetizer. I definitely recommend that if you go here. I am sad that they have been open since 2002, and this is the first time I have gotten to go there. I am pretty sure I will go there again!

The Rhubarb House has become somewhat of an instituion in Hagerstown, known for the delicious creamy tomato soup, and lovely desserts. I am a fan of the Chicken sandwiches, and love the house made chips. The atmosphere is very well done. Trendy, sophisitcated, with a country touch.

from the outside, it looks quite nice. after partaking lunch with my family and close friends, utter disappointment...i was hoping for something a bit more promising, especially for a special lunch with out-of-town family. the service was slow. extremely slow. we were a party of five and one small child and we were a probably a relatively larger group than this restaurant usually has; but i was pretty much feeling, "can someone please at least take our drink orders?" what was even more discerning was the fact that a cheese plate appetizer came with ONE cracker and 1/4 of an apple sliced into itsy-bitsy slices. my husband and i looked at that plate and thought the same thing: "we are paying too much for this large plate of nothingness." if this review was based on the yummy tomato soup i got, it would be a solid 3-star; but the restaurant has to be better than just soup, right? my baby spinach salad was "eh, okay." i was just too turned off by the slowness of the service and the amount of the appetizer portions. i did not even finish the salad yet was ravenous. maybe it wasn't that great either. eh.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and very good food. Crab cakes were excellent, and that's an item that I'm picky about. Generous, delicious desserts, too.

My family and I spent a wonderful dinner at Rhubarb, with terrific wine, great healthy greens, hearty risotto, terrific filet mignon, and great atmosphere. Have a great meal here.

Wonderfully creative food in a beautiful historic building. The owner puts a lot of effort and time into decorating and keeping the menu fresh. More expensive than the average downtown lunch place, but well worth the money. I have had lunch here numerous times. My mother had her wedding reception here and everything was spectacular. If you are from out of town and want to experience downtown dining in a beautifully renovated restaurant with heaps of charm, the Rhubarb house is right next to the visitors center and in the square of downtown Hagerstown. Parking can be a challenge which is the only reason we don't frequent this superb lunch spot more often. There is very limited street parking and a couple of garages (fee) nearby but definitely plan on having to do some walking to get there. Outstanding salads, soups, and sandwiches.

My wife and I were heading out for dinner and decided to try this place. They seem to have strange hours and are closed sometimes (I am not sure when) during the week. Anyhow, we like Bulls & Bears across Public Square and wanted to try something new. Service was prompt, polite and professional and the ambiance is great for casual, but nice dining. Two suggestions: add some background music for the dining area (Sirius Satellite, Pandora, etc;) as the wood floors and flat walls echo pretty significantly. Also, consider adding wi fi as my wife and I both were still "working" via smart phones and the building construction is not conducive to wireless. We're going back tonight, you should too!

This was a whim kind of outing with some good friends. My wife and I arrived a little late, but in time to have a drink while we were catching up and perusing the menu. The wait staff was right with us as soon as we sat down. As if in perfect rhythm, the tag-team wait staff (I think we ended up having four servers at one point, but one main one) brought our drinks, took appetizer orders (which were quickly delivered) while we sipped our drinks and continued chatting. Immediately after delivering the appetizers, our dinner order was taken. My wife and I shared the Seafood Nachos appetizer, which were pretty good. Not spicy hot, and they used a more fresh tomato-based salsa than I'm used to, although it wasn't runny or pedestrian-tasting at all. There was plenty of crab throughout, just enough cheese and plenty of chips, sour cream and flavor. I ordered the Grilled Salmon, which included a salad (with some delectable sliver of bread), sauteed green beans and boiled seasoned potatoes. The salmon was simply delicious, although just slightly overcooked (as it was just a tad tough), but still quite tasty... the grilled flavor and the glaze were sopping good. The beans and potatoes were very good and there was just enough. We were attended to quite well, with our server knowing just about when we wanted to move on to the next thing or needed refills on beverages. We had coffees & teas, and then ordered some dessert. I had a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream (this was a five-start dessert) and it came as a HUGE slice with a big dollop of whipped cream and fresh strawberry. I had to take half of it home. The service was, again, excellent. The food was very good, and the quiet and laid back atmosphere (there are two sections to the restaurant, and we pretty much had the one section all to ourselves, while the other section was a bit more bustly and quite a bit more noisy). The pictures on their website do NOT do the place justice... it's much homier than those indicate. Overall, I was very pleasantly surprised.

This place has so much potential! Great location (downtown in the town square), adorable old building. Great menu. Need more wait staff, I've been three times and each time the waitress is about to pull her hair out and you have to chase her down she's so busy. I got a sandwich once with undercooked chicken; they didn't charge me for it. Another time I got a slice of cake with egg shell in the whipped cream. This place has the foundation to be a spectacular lunch spot, they have a solid menu, excellent food and drink... just needs more staffing so they aren't rushing through food prep and more staffing so the tables are waited on with worthy attention.

I was happy with my first visit to the Rhubarb House with my friend Tootie. It's decorated nicely, is within an easy walk of parking, and has a good selection. I tried the soup and salad and got the soup of the day-cream of crab. Tootie got a chicken salad plate with greens. Both were presented nicely. I was satisfied after my meal. I definitely will go back. Oh, if you park in the metered lot, don't forget to put in your money BEFORE you walk to the Rhubarb House. Yes, I forgot!
