always excellent food..sandwiches &pizza delicious.... however servers try hard, but badly need a hostess/seater on Sunday lunch... plus kitchen should send pizzas out on hot plate, not cold china... soups are so good, but rarely arrive Hot to tables...EASY FIXES MANAGEMENT!... Come on, make us really happy!

To describe Cafe Del Sol as Mexican is absurd. Cafe Del Sol is a mixture of Latin American and Italian Cuisine....combining to create delicious results. Great dishes include: Chicken Basil Chili The Waldorf Salad Mediterranean Pizza (a tiny bit bigger than a personal pie) The Angus Burger (served on Ciabatta bread...my husband's favorite!) The Cuban Panini The Market Wrap (Veggie delightful) ...and of course the Homemade Potato Chips with Ranch Dipping Sauce. They also offer Fajitas, Pastas, Strombolis, Quesadillas, Wine & Beer. The dining room is comfortable and the staff is courteous. Locations also in Greencastle and Waynesboro, PA

Funny this is listed as a Mexican restaurant. It's an American hodge podge really of pizza, sandwiches, salads, fajitas, wraps and I am sure more than I can recall. I tried the Cabo. Blackened tilapia, avocado, mango salsa, asian slaw, chipotle aioli & sour cream on flatbread. It was ok. The tilapia wasn't blackened, it was stuffed with fried tortilla pieces that weren't in the description. There wasn't much in the way of mango salsa or slaw. It was a little bland overall and I was mostly disappointed that the fish wasn't blackened. I really like the place and the menu. I loved the home made chips and the pickle was good too. I waffled between 3 and 4, it's really in the middle for me. I would definitely come back if in the area to try more so I guess it's better than aok.

This place is a gem. I have never had a bad meal. Great for a date night with the wife or a quick business meeting. Always a good choice.

um...we went here based on the high reviews...we were passing through from north Carolina towards massachusetts... i don't know if there is anything better here..it's pretty slim pickings, frankly, but i felt it my obligation to let you guys know that the 2 pizza we got really were pretty sad - soft crusted, flavorless, canned mushrooms, the spicy marinara was indeed spicy but had no other flavors or balance - so sad and cost $27 for 2 -10 inch pizzas

I've been here at least ten times. I never order the same thing except the calamari appetizer. Everything is so good and the staff is very friendly.

Wonderful selection of fresh pizzas, salads, and sandwiches. A great place for lunch or dinner that is a huge step above chain restaurants, and classy without being too formal. I will review the food in detail the next time I visit. Worth seeking out!

Awesome food with a little flare and superb service. The new lump crab meat over fresh cut chips and drizzled with a special house sauce and melted cheese is a meal in itself. Lunch or dinner with your gang or just you and the wife they make it happen. My favorite salad is called "California" fresh cut avocados and a whole lot more yum!

Stopped here for a late Friday lunch after finding Sitar of India and Texas Roadhouse not open- Lucky for us, because this place rocks! The servers made really helpful recommendations, and my Uncle and I really enjoyed our paninis. The crab cake panini was an interesting departure from the norm, and the California was a good choice for my Uncle who prefers more traditional fare (chicken, bacon, avocado). The homemade potato chips that come with the paninis were excellent, as were the french fries (which carried an annoying upcharge). This place is like Panera- but better!

I have been meaning to write about this place several times and they just revamped there menu which made the place even better. It is a great little place, but you would never know it was there if someone didn't tell you about it. They have a very eclectic menu at very reasonable prices and a nice selection of wine. I have had many items on the menu from the salads, pizza, sandwiches and main courses (also very nice servings on everything), I haven't gone wrong with any choice. Definitely check it out if you are in the area you will not be disappointed! Just an FYI they do have more than one location, but they only serve alcohol at the MD location.

Good size portions for an amazing price, the veggies are so fresh! Will definitely be going back! I recommend the chicken pesto panini

Arrabiata pizza was fabulous... just the right amount of spicy. Avocado panini was very good as well. Kids enjoyed quesadilla and chicken fingers. Will be back again.

Our first visit was very delightful and the server was friendly and attentive. We also enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and decor. We arrived early for our Friday night dinner and ordered the Meat-Lover's thin crust pizza. It was very good and quite tasty too! Highly recommend visiting this restaurant and guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised and satisfied!

I really used to love the food here. They have Mexican & Italian fare. The paninis are good. The pizza is also good, but it depends on what you order. I've noticed that their portions have gotten much smaller (the size of their sandwiches and the portion size of the chips), and most of the time, the nachos come out with burnt edges. The service is always great, though, and the salads are to die for! My recommendation is the crab cake panini or the California salad - yum!

  • Bill S.

Never had anything but great food here. If you want something fresh, full of flavor, and beautifully prepared and presented, then this is your place. From Gyros to Ahi Tuna, Pizza and Paninis, they rule this area on delicious choices. And if salad is your thing, theirs are gourmet and extremely creative. Bring your family, your friends, even your ex-wife. If you need bonus points, choose this place as your next culinary destination. You will NOT leave unhappy.

The food is very good. It's a sit down pizza place in a way but the food is very good considering. There is a bar and some good drinks but nothing to wow its a small place so at times people where waiting to be seated but service was very fast and friendly. I will be back. P.s. I had the Cuban and it was awesome.

We had a party of 9 and was well taken care of at the Waynesboro PA location. The subs and pizza's were great. This was the first time at that location. We normally go to the Hagerstown location. We will be back.

I had forgotten about this place till started to work by it, I got a small pizza for lunch one day it was soo good! I ate the whole thing no problem. A little pricey on some of the menu items but it is good food

My husband, two boys, and I decided to try out this place on vacation after reading the reviews. We were not disappointed. Our boys ordered the Spaghetti tossed with butter and parmesan and the chicken tenders with fries, and they both loved it. I ordered the Pasta Del Sol, and it was delicious! My husband ordered the Tequila Chicken and Shrimp, and I tasted a bite. The jalapeno cream sauce was to die for. We also ordered cannolis to go for dessert, and these were excellent. Our server kept our drinks full and made sure we were happy. Overall, we were very happy with our choice. It is a bit pricey, but the food is worth it.

I recently enjoyed both lunch and dinner here. On my first visit I tried a cup of the chicken chili and a house salad. The house salad had fresh ingredients and was satisfying, but the chili came out not heated through, and, when I sent it back, was not really heated through completely the second time. It was good, just not hot. Dinner later in the week was better. I had the Southwestern/CalMex inspired grilled chicken salad with a jalapeno ranch dressing. Very good flavors, nice fresh ingredients and a nice kick to the dressing. I'd return for this salad. I'm finding the reviews here a little misleading, so want to clarify. This restaurant is neither Italian nor Mexican, but American. Just because a place borrows from different cuisines does not make it _________ (fill in the blank). There are pizza and calzone on the menu, and there are some items that are inspired by both Mexican cuisine and our own country's Southwestern and Cal-cuisine style food. The menu features some interesting entree salads and some inventive sandwiches. It's all good.

This is an Italian place, not a Mexican place. Really, really good gem in the middle of a non-discreet shopping center. We only found this place because of Yelp! Fresh garden salad, delicious crab nachos (they went too fast), and the paninis and calzones were HUGE! He had the chicken pesto and I had the chicken calzone. All was just incredible. The atmosphere was modern with downtempo music playing in the background. The waitress was nice and the food was prompt. She was a tad forgetful but mostly on top of the ball. The only down side was that we had an occasional uninvited fly guest at the table. Oh well. Still great food. We had to take home a doggy bag. Also, seriously a good price value for what you get. I can't get those prices for that quantity/atmosphere back closer to DC. This joint was busy even on a Wednesday night.

My family and I stopped here after a day in the slopes and boy I'm glad we did. The place is nice and clean, the staff is friendly, we ordered the chicken nachos for appetizer and they were great, I ordered the Cuban sandwich and it was very good in fact it was better than in some Spanish restaurants I tried it before. I recommend this restaurant to anyone trying to avoid eating the poor quality food served at ski resorts. It is also a great place for families or a romantic dinner with a special someone.

"Great food and great variety. The pizza and salads were delicious. There were lots of options for our big group. This restaurant is a bright spot in Hagerstown. We'd go back."

We moved away from Hagerstown several years ago but this is one of our favorite places to eat when we return to the area. As others have mentioned, their menu is quite eclectic, so there's something for everyone. Every meal we've had at Cafe del Sol has been well prepared and delicious, from their Cuban sandwich, spaghetti with Bolognese sauce to pizza, burgers and salads -- all are great. It's not a large place, but has a warm, contemporary ambience and friendly service. It's usually crowded and they don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait on the weekends.

Friends suggested this place which is in a little strip shopping center. You wouldn't even know it's there is someone didn't tell you. I was expecting Mexican from the name, but it is quite eclectic. You could get a quesadilla or a calzone. There were burgers, salads and pastas. They make their own chips, and the were thick and tasty. The selection of dinners salads was large. I got a California salad. The veggies were fresh and crisp. The dressing had just enough bite to spice it up. Husband said his burger was the best he's ever had. We got the spinach and artichoke dip (this is where the awesome chips were tasted!). We learned that there are three of these restaurants--one located near us in Waynesboro/Rouzerville, PA. So we'll definitely give it a try. Oh, service was good too and prices were reasonable.

Not as good as other reviewers make it out o be. Friendly staff, but do you really want to see them cleaning dirty dishes etc as you walk in? Some bizarre music playing, not bad music just bizarre. Food on the expensive side for the use, tastes good, smells even better. Kinda like to eat food that doesn't drip some kind of fluid down me as I eat it. Give away that the spinach is frozen & not fresh.

This has always been a family favorite! The pizza is good and I have to fight my kids to get any of the crab nachos or strawberry tres leches cake! The salads and entrees are very good. The staff is always friendly and where as they don't divulge their jalapeño ranch salad dressing recipe...they always provide some to take home!

We were driving past Hagerstown around dinner time and were getting hungry so we decided to give Cafe Del Sol a try. It turned out to be a pretty good place, at least for sandwiches. I should have been a little more adventurous with my order but I was craving a gyro and I saw one on the menu so that's what I got. It was very tasty, the french fries on the side were hot and crisp and service was prompt. My girlfriend tried the Cabo (blackened tilapia) sandwich which she said was good but a little heavy on the mayo. The pizza and pasta dishes that other diners were getting looked pretty good as well although I'm not so sure about the Mexican food here. All in all Cafe Del Sol was a pretty good restaurant. Not amazing or the sort of place I'd go out of my way to get to but very solid food for a decent price.

And in conclusion...... Let me for at say that I don't mind mayonnaise. It has its place when used sparingly. However... We ordered 3 items from the menu and each was covered in mayonnaise based sauce. Each item would have been great without it. I'm baffled at why a restaurant would need to cover up great flavor with mayonnaise. One of the items, the Crab Nachos, were not nachos at all, and I'm pretty sure there wasn't any crab. The dish consisted of kettle chips, covered in melted cheese and about 4 ounces of spicy mayo. We picked through it looking for anything that resembled crab, and deduced that by Crab, they meant artificial crab flavoring, and by nachos, they meant potato chips. By spicy mayo, they meant more spicy mayo than anyone would want to consume in a lifetime. Seriously, aren't chips covered in melted cheese enough? Spicy mayo doesn't even make sense on this dish and even if it wasn't an irate amount, it simply doesn't work. Who devised this monstrosity of fat? Guy Fieri? When the crab nachos came out and I saw that someone had purposely dumped a 50 gallon drum of mayonnaise on it, I asked if the other dishes had mayonnaise sauce on them and I was told "yes, but its different, its sriracha mayonnaise." I asked if they could be made without it and was told "oh but its different, its sriracha mayonnaise." I'm dumbfounded at why someone can't comprehend that not everyone wants a massive amount of mayonnaise on their dinner. It doesn't matter what form of mayonnaise sauce it is, its mayonnaise and it doesn't need to be on every single dish. So I asked again if they could be made with it on the side and was told "oh its already done." Any decent server would have it remade for you, or at least the toppings scraped off and new toppings put on sans mayonnaise. Not in Hagerstown, so she brought out yet another 7800 calories of mayonnaise topped food. I scraped off the piles of mayonnaise and asked if she could just get me a side of the toppings and she was able to do...well.....what she should have offered to do in the first place. Moral of the story for the restaurant, don't put mayonnaise all over your food. Give it as a side so that if people want it, they will use it. You can't remove mayonnaise from a dish. Its not like a tomato slice or lettuce. Once it is on it, its on it. I'm giving 2 stars for both the unneeded use of mayonnaise and the lack of good service. Which is stupid on my part, because if there are 2 things you are guaranteed to get in Hagerstown, its lots of fat and poor service.

Cafe Del Sol provides some of the better food and service in the Hagerstown area. They offer a variety of food, with a large selection of salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and other specialties. I've eaten my way through almost the whole menu, so I'll just share some highlights! I'm a big fan of having healthy and fresh options and they definitely don't disappoint. The Waldorf and California salads are two of my favorites; they are both very flavorful and filling. As for soups, they are all pretty good, but the tomato bisque is my favorite. I've even tried to recreate this simple soup in my own home, but it just doesn't compare. If a salad won't cut it, I highly suggest the burger. It's pretty damn good. My other favorites are the avocado club and the quesadillas. The pizzas are also a delish, but be prepared to be stuffed (or share, if that's your thing)! The restaurant is modern, clean, and comfortable. The waitstaff are always friendly and helpful. The food is fresh, flavorful, and delicious. This is an excellent date spot if you want to avoid chain restaurants. Or good for a Sunday-after-church lunch. It's pretty much good for any mood or occasion. I'm a fan. Obviously.

I've visited here several times, and I look forward to coming back! I really like the selection, from pizzas and calzones (yum!) to sandwiches and salads that go above what you normally find at a casual place, there is a lot to choose from. Great desserts, too. I especially enjoyed the cannoli shooter! It was a mini, deconstructed cannoli with raspberry puree, and it was awesome! Great for both adults and kids, the Cafe is reasonably priced and very clean.

I love everything about this place. Awesome wait staff, ever evolving food and beverage menu, and great casual atmosphere. The Cuban is to die for, just ask them to hold the mayo if you are a mustard guy like me.

We don't live in Hagerstown but since my husband works there, we come up to have lunch with him from time to time. I was very happy with our decision to check out Cafe del Sol. I had the gyro, my husband had the Cuban and my son had the kid's chicken and fries. Everything seemed to be homemade and was amazingly fresh and tasty. I've already been craving that gyro and it's only been 1 day. The restaurant itself is nice and clean and I enjoyed the ambiance (if you are into that type of thing). I just really wish they had a location in Frederick. It would definitely be successful. What do you say, guys??

Love, Love, Love their Gourmet Pizza, especially the "Greek"! Great service, friendly and casual atmosphere tucked away in Hagerstown.

While I don't have a specific experience in mind, I have been to Cafe Del Sol numerous times and I always leave full and happy. I feel like this place has good enough food for a date night out but also low enough prices for a casual dinner as well.

I love this place. The decor is cozy, the atmosphere friendly, waitstaff is right on point, their strombolis and calzones are very tasty and very large, soups are great especially their crab, their paninis are yummy, and they have crab nachos that are to die for. They have fresh fried chips that can't be skipped. I highly recommend this place. I forgot to mention their quesadillas, amazing. I'm always leery of ordering quesadillas because most places have very bland ones, but these are wonderful.

  • Brittany M.

My husband and I love this place. The food is fantastic and the service is just as good. The food comes out warm and at a good pace and I've not tasted anything less that YUM there. The parking get's pretty backed up during rush hours and the waiting area at the front is pretty small so that makes it a bit cramped at times. But the wait never bothered us because we knew it would be worth it every time. Also, a note from my husband: Try the soup of the day no matter what it is, it's always delicious.

I have been eating at Del Sol from its beginnings in Greencastle PA. Del Sol's Hagerstown location has been the most consistent of the three and is usually pretty good. One of my favorites is the California salad and on this visit it was what I chose. When I received the salad I thought the dressing cup was not as filled as usual but poured it on the salad. The chicken was very dry and the dressing did not cover the salad let alone cover the dryness of the chicken. When I asked for a small amount of dressing, I was told that there was a charge. I stated that the dressing was less than usual and I only needed a little but preferred not to pay..... The waitress came back to the table with a small amount but proceeded to school me on the exact ounces in the container and went on... Seriously... This is how you treat a customer! I have been in many restaurants all over and never needed to pay for a dressing. I spoke with the expediter who must have told the waitress to let me know how exact the measurements of dressing were. This didn't go well:). I hope it's worth loosing a loyal patron and negative word of mouth.

I ordered the large meatlovers calzone and was disappointed this time around. The calzone was packed with ham which made it very salty. The other meats were pretty much nonexistent. In addition, it appears that someone forgot to put ricotta cheese in the calzone which changed the taste of it. The service was horrible as well. I called ahead and placed my order. When I got there the girl at the counter couldn't find my order. She asked me to wait and she would figure out what happened to it. She went to help a server in the dining room and never returned. After waiting for 15 mins, I got up and asked another girl at the counter to check on my order. It was sitting above the oven the entire time. No apology for the wait and mix-up. I won't be returning anytime soon.

I had been here before, but recently visited after a long hiatus. I had eaten the calzone and quesadilla for my first few visits and can't remember my thoughts on them, but after my visit the other day, I'm pleased to say this place is a hidden gem. The decor is very new age and modern, with an upscale feel. My partner and I ordered crostini, a gyro with French fries, and a crab cake panini. My god, everything was perfect. The crostini was an olive tapenade with prosciutto, roasted red peppers, and a balsamic glaze. Every bite was amazing. My partner got the gyro, which was happily made with lamb and beef, a zesty tzatziki sauce and melt in your mouth fries. The crab cake panini was outstanding, with melted cheese and a tangy Old Bay mayonnaise. Not only was the food perfection, the waitress was the most professional lady I have ever witnessed in this business. We also had dessert shooters- a limoncello flavor and a blueberry granola. Everything was excellent and we will be back for more. Also a great perk is the alcoholic beverage options- the white sangria will be my pick next time. Highly recommend.

This place can be really good, but other times it is just okay. The amazing strawberry tres leche dessert makes me crave this place, but I also really like the tomato soup they make. I think the calzones are just okay.

  • Danielle F.

The food is great! The service on the other hand is not. We sat 25 minutes before we got drinks. Another 15 before we ordered. Then one of the guest with me had several mistakes in her order after the third time sending it back because they couldn't get tomato off a sandwich with three toppings the waitress Katherine proceeded to give our table attitude andpoor service. There was no check back to see how our meal were and she spoke loud enough in the kitchen for us to hear how ah felt about our guest. This server has ruined my experience and I recommend take out for anyone.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
