It had been 10 years since I went to an Olive Garden. We went today and were very disappointed. We spent a lot of time waiting for our server to bring drinks, salad, and breadsticks. Then as soon as this course arrived, our meal was out 2 minutes later. We had a mountain of plates we were trying to eat over and around. The salad was particularly pathetic. The commercial on TV shows a bowl of salad with tomatoes, carrots, olives, and onions. Our pathetic bowl was full of iceberg lettuce, a few carrot scraps, and a couple of token olives. No parmesan cheese. Very little flavor. I guess it was good to each some roughage, but it lacked nutrition, flavor, or visual appeal. Making a great Italian salad is incredibly easy. The overall value of our experience was very bad. I won't be going back for another 10 years.

I haven't been to an Olive Garden in maybe a decade. I was looking for a place to have a kid-friendly afternoon lunch with the ladies. Olive Garden was a good choice because they have high chairs and the wait wasn't going to be too long (for food or for seating). The waiter was friendly and patient and the food was reasonably tasty. Add free salad and breadsticks and we're in good shape. While it might be difficult for a native Italian to recognize our lunch as "Italian food", we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. :)

Olive Garden, the fast food IMO of Italian Restaurants. It is a chain, and more often than not, I am satisfied with whatever it is that I get. On this date, I decided to try the Spicy Shrimp Vesuvio. I must say that I was pleased with the dish. I think it tasted good; although, I really didn't think that it was too spicy and the shrimp could have been bigger considering that it was the main protein in the dish. As always, the salad and bread sticks were awesome. The service was good, our waiter, Darius was attentive, polite and quite knowledgeable regarding the changes in the menu. Lastly, I tried dessert, the dolcini, chocolate mousse, I think it was the perfect size for a dessert, and it tasted ahmazing. Lovely.

Worst experience at this location. Service was so poor , food was super cold..... soup and breadsticks were served after i had finished my meal. I would never go back to this particular location , or probably any of there location again.

Not the best olive garden around. Our server was very slow. The food was not as good as it is in Springfield pa. You think it would be the same since they are a chain but guess again. When we finish begged for grated cheese the server put more on the table then in our bowl. Thr restaurant was slow so there was no reason for the bad servce and food.

Food was just food but the customer service was amazing!! We had the best waiter ever!! He helped us split checks, split the food, and was really funny too!! We had 12 loud people and he just joined in. I would come back just to have him wait on us again!!

So, I understand that it's Olive Garden and you're expectations should only be so high. And it's entirely possible that it's just because it's the Columbia one but... Our meal tonight was great! Mushroom ravioli and spaghetti and meatballs. Really, really good. Is it LIttle Italy good? No but I totally got my money's worth. And goodness but the zippoli things (basically donuts with chocolate sauce), oh mercy. Came out piping hot and were delicious. Great wine list. And Eddie our server was the best part. He was polite and attentive. If you are going to Olive Garden, come to this one.

It's an Olive Garden chain, so I won't review the food except to say that I dig the stuffed chicken Marsala. You should try it. The service at this location is pretty good. Stay away during the peak times unless you want to wait. After 7 you should be fine, though.

I tried to give Olive Garden another try after a horrible experience, so I went to a different location, hoping for better. As someone who loves Italian, I was disappointed. I experience the same dry, basic Italian cooking as the first time. Other than the offering of cheese, salad, and bread sticks, the food choices are all served with a bland taste, and lack of Italian love. Never would eat there again.

Excellent food and service. If there is a wait, it's pretty spot on for the amount of time they tell you.

My party of five went to the Olive Garden yesterday for a little lunch. Three of the four of us have food allergies to milk so I'm always very careful to ask what's in the food. I saw that they have hummus now so I asked the server if it had any cheese or butter in it. He asked me if I was lactose intolerant and I said yes. So he said he would ask the chef. Ten minutes later he brings the dish out and says it's fine. So after eating this hummus and my meal, I began to feel sick to my stomach. I was nauseous and dizzy. So I looked really closely at the hummus. And that's when I saw a little bit of cheese. So my friend had to run out and grab some lactaid so I wouldn't throw up. When I brought it to the attention of the server, he sent his manager. The manager was very very apologetic and took the items and a percentage off of the bill. However I'm not happy. My child has an anaphylactic reaction to milk and almost are that dish. He could've died! Beware. Just because they say something's not in the dish....it may be in the dish.

I seriously love Olive Garden! I've had a few bad experiences at certain locations but this location isn't too bad. I love the unlimited breadsticks and salad! Mm mm good! My favorite is the Chicken Scampi. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and the vegetables are a great compliment to the sauce and noodles. My sister loves getting the Chicken Alfredo which is also quite good as well. Not too cheesy! The service is ok. It sometimes differs especially with the waiters. Some can be very attentive and some can be rarely ever there. The quality of the food does not change but the service does each and every time.

I like the Olive Garden chain. They are places you can go and know what to expect, kind of like a better version of McDonalds. Tonight I had the endless pasta with salad. Good stuff. Service was alright, food was alright. This perticular location I think has a nicer dining area than most. Overall, A-OK. :)

I don't know what it is about this place, maybe it's the location or maybe people just love the food here but it is always packed. When ever I go to this location there is always a line. Perhaps it is just the times that I have gone there but seriously, it seems to be always crowded. I eat a lot of pasta and I do love a good Italian dinner. This place is A-OK. I like the unlimited salad and soup. The salad dressing alone makes it worth it to me. I do not know what brand of Italian dressing they use but I think it is the best. Their soups are great too. The pasta fagioli is great. I never had that soup before until eating it here. Right now they have their unlimited pasta and sauce special. I tried the penne and then the fettuccine, both with the three meat sauce. It was good. I thought it was flavorful and tasty. My wife had their chicken Marsala. That looked wonderful. It was served with a vegetable and some roasted potatoes. I have been here a few times now and every time I have eaten here it is always filling and good. The service is always good. One thing I really do like about this place is that their calamari is served without the tentacles. I am not a fan of these and for me this is an added plus. The calamari is good and so are their fried ravioli. If you are in the mood for Italian, give this place a try.

Worst dining experience I've ever had. I invited my family to join me in celebrating my husband's 35th birthday party and it was horrible. The person on the phone was rude, the servers were HORRIBLE and the portions were 1/2 what they were supposed to be. I'm awaiting a call from the Dir of Operations, but I don't hold out hope for anything positive.

This is a chain restaurant, and everyone knows it, so take my rating in that spirit. This does not hold a candle to gourmet establishments, but it's not intended to. This Olive Garden is highly predictable and always snappy. I have never once had an order taken wrong, been overcharged, had slow service or bad food. The pasta fagioli is freaking awesome and the fondue-esque smoked cheese dish is way more edible than one might think. If you want an authentic Italian experience this isn't your place, but if you want good food that's predictable and served by friendly people in a timely manner then this is a great option. Frankly, there's not much in the area that is original... so this is one of the better options for Italian period.

A friend put together a girls and children's Holiday Party. We gave our orders in the way the checks needed to be separated in hopes to make it easy on the servers. Our food took close to an hour to come out. We then waited another 30 minutes for our check. The check came and it was a hot mess, everyone's orders were mixed on each others checks and so on, we then continued to wait for this to get fixed. After chasing down one of the missing servers. I don't think OG can handle a group of people based upon this experience and I will not be back with a group of people.

2.5 stars Attended at function held here for a recent graduate or else there is no reason you would find me here... The place was packed!!! Packed to the brim with down home Americans. No need to visit the heartland, this was unpretentious, minimal education, DOWN HOME AMERICA where a vacation is a trip to Ocean City, and gas station coffee is A-OK. Although that world is a bit foreign to me, it also holds some appeal which I can't quite articulate, but if Olive Garden makes them happy, then so be it. Maybe appeal isn't the word, but it's a grounding experience. The separate room section was great for a party of 15 adults and 4 toddlers. The food was not very impressive. Had the eggplant parm, and I've gotten more eggplant in a tapas order at La Tasca. They should have called it eggplant carpaccio. Salad was not bad. Service was a bit lax, but it was a circus in there. There were a lot of employees running around and I was surprised it ran as efficiently as it did. I passed on dessert. The breadsticks which I had only previously known from commercials were not impressive.

I love love love Olive Garden. The thing that really stands out about this location is the staff. Blah blah blah chain restaurant, same old food. Quality, quantity. The staff here, especially on a Friday night bust their butts! Hustle doesn't even begin to describe the amount of effort being put forth by our server and her coworkers. Drinks, yup, order, yup, salad, yup, more salad, why not. Lickety Split. FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE!

Really good for an Olive Garden (please take the five stars with that sentence in mind). Mostly I wanted to write this review to give credit to our server, Jonathan, who was one of the best waiters I've had, at a chain restaurant or anywhere else. He was attentive, friendly & not too intrusive. He kept us rolling in breadsticks, soup & sodas, all in good humor & with hustle. Great service!

  • Debby C.

This is still my favorite Olive Garden. It offers the same food as other Olive Gardens with superior service. There is a new O.G. fairly nearby now at Arundel Mills - the service is not as good. This is not really a 5 star restaurant, but it is a 5 star Olive Garden.

  • Joe K.

My wife and I tried 2 for 25 bucks deal but had to pay 42 bucks for it...our waiter was horrible he didnt bring my wifes drink until the meal came!!! We also got our meal before the appitizers!!! The meal was like cardboard. This was our third visit to the place and the last...

  • Steve A.

Used to be a nice place, but last few visits have been poor. Most recent visit was awful. Service was incredibly slow despite not being busy, food was burnt and dry, pasta was under-sauced, and my child got sick from the chicken strips later that night. A real disaster. I give it 2 stars because I have had better experiences there. The salad and breadsticks are good, they have low calorie options, and there are generally some interesting menu choices. Not sure if recent problems are persistent or not, but be wary.

turn 'when you're here, you're family', to 'when you're here our wait staff is going to upsell the shit out of you'. Never have i felt so underminded by a server. I go here a couple days ago, and the boyfriend and I arn't ready to order yet, but were really hungry so we say we should be ready as soon as the salad comes out. What does the waitress say? Oh they dont do that anymore because you need to order your entrees because otherwise you might order just an app and leave. whatever. fine i'll have chicken marsala please. 'no no no you HAVE to have the STUFFED marsala it's so much better!" "yeah well, i dont like sun dried tomatoes, or mushrooms so that sounds like i wouldnt like it" "oh everyone says that" I'm sorry. everyone says they HATE the TWO MOST PROMINANT things that the marsala would be stuffed with? So my boyfriend gets it. Maybe i'll get fettichini alfredo. "You havvveee to get it with chicken, its so good" Alright, i understand you work on tips, but im obviously in a bad mood and you are LOOSING your tip by continuing to upsell me rather than just taking my friggin order. I glare, and change my order again, for good. It gets two stars because my chicken parm was great and the manager was funny, Otherwise i hope that sever stops her annoying act and wipes some of the over done make-up off her face.

  • Hope V.

Keep in mind this is a standard chain restaurant. That being said, I like their food. Its not authentic Italian food necessarily, but I love love love their breadsticks. Pair those with the alfredo sauce and its a winning combination! I usually just stick to the fettucine alfredo, but their salad is really good too. The prices aren't too bad and the restaurant usually seems to be clean and looks nice. I haven't had any bad experiences with service or food. The servers will package your food up for you to take home, and they give you nifty bags for the breadsticks that you can put in the oven so they reheat perfectly which I'm a fan of. Overall not a bad choice for a nice lunch or dinner, just don't plan on having anything over the top amazing.

It's kind of hard to yelp a place like the olive garden since there's a bajillion of them across the country and they're all the same. With that in mind I'll just speak to the specific experience my husband and I had at this olive garden in particular. My husband ordered the tour of Italy which is chicken parm, fettucine alfredo, and lasagna all on one plate. It was all good but definitely wasn't fresh. The middle of his pile of pasta was only lukewarm and the edges of some of the noodles were hardened as if they'd been sitting out for a while. My pasta dish (seafood portofino) also seemed to have been sitting out for a bit of time. While mine was still hot, the sauce was all congealed on the top and I could totally tell that it had been sitting out or under a heating lamp or something. The waiter was perfectly nice and attentive and the restaurant was defintely not as busy as I've seen the Olive Garden get so I'm not sure what was up with why our dishes didn't seem super fresh...

  • Trisha S.

It's not really authentic Italian food, but it'll do when that's what you're in the mood for. I normally order the endless soup and salad bowl because I like to believe that eating large quantities of salad makes me a healthy eater. The service is decent and well there really isn't much to complain about, but there really isn't much to get excited about either.

It's your standard chain restaurant Italian food. Nothing too special, but decent. The best thing is the endless soup, salad and bread sticks for lunch.

Pretty much what you expect from one of these homogenized national chains. The chianti braised short ribs were not bad. They came up a little short on service though. It was a week night and didn't seem particularly busy, but I repeatedly had to ask for extra plates that we had requested, and I don't recall being offered to refill my water even once. I'd have given the nod to a 3rd star if not for the service.

Chain or not, the Columbia location continuously has wonderful food and service. Speedy and friendly service. Food is always delicious. I've only gone to one other Olive Garden in Virginia and their food tasted very off..... Olive Garden in Columbia is always one of my favorite spots. Endless Soup and Salad at lunch is definitely my favorite. Their Beef Medallion in Sweet Marsala sauce is a must try!!!!

I personally enjoy going to Olive garden, but well I just had a bad experience from there. Me and my girl friend went for a lunch, we went in and was taken to the seat. However for 20 min, we havent seen the waiter/ess, or served a single water. Well we got a table on the end side, and all around us were big groups eating , but not even caring and we even friggin waved our hands to the servers so they can see, but no one seemed to care. I juss said F*** it, and left, and went to applebee's nearby. Well I'll put ma middle finger high to this location (columbia), and well if I wanna try again will try to go somewhere like hanover. Sunday Family dinner. We had the lasagna, Tour of Italy, fettuccine Alfredo, and fettuccine Alfredo with mushrooms. We also had a sampler with calamari, fried ravioli and the stuffed mushrooms. We've had chicken gnocchi soup, toscana soup and Caesar Salads with our meals. Overall, food was good, we all enjoyed it. The gnocchi soup was so good that me and my son got second bowls. I think we enjoyed our Sunday dinner at the O.G more because of our waitress Miss Kayla, a very nice lady with a bright smile. She checked us frequently to make sure we had everything we wanted, and with all the requests I added, which could be a little painful, she served our table with a wholehearted smile and brought everything we needed very quickly. We will definitely go back again, especially if we can have Miss Kayla. 3 star restaurant, 4 star with unlimited gnocchi soup, 5 star with Miss Kayla!!

Went to Olive Garden because someone gave me a gift card and as we walked into the restaurant it smelled like a wet rotten towel. Order fried ravioli and it came hard as a rock. My wife ordered three cheese ziti and got it with meat sauce, was in hurry so had no time to send back. Will never return to this Olive Garden again.

WARNING STAY AWAY!!!!!!! This was a refurbished vet clinic as it still has the stench of cats and dogs. The lunch was horrible...the lasagna was not up to par in both taste and in appearance. The kids spaghetti was worse. The lemonade had a foal taste.......it must have been the water that was unfiltered because it was a refurbished vet clinic. Stay away from this restaurant....don't bother trying to have a good Italian meal with friends and family you will be disappointed.....save your money for somewhere you are going to enjoy! WARNING STAY AWAY!!!!!!!

Myself and two coworkers ordered three "pronto" lunches here as we only had a one hour lunch. 55 minutes later we were still waiting for our entrées. It. After finally finding our waiter and inquiring about our meals, we were told that one of the entrees was made incorrectly and they were waiting on that. We complained to the manager, one of us got a free meal, the other two were comp'ed 25%. Still not worth it for a one hour wait for what turned into Olive Garden carry out that made us late.

  • Chad P.

I have walked out of this restaurant three times due to poor service and for the servers displaying poor hygiene. The first time I walked out after seeing our server delivering our food while carrying the tray on her shoulder, her unkempt hair was touching our food. I told the manager but I have seen it happen a few times after that. The second time I walked out after not receiving our food, they forgot to deliver it to us. The third time was due to seeing one their servers who was standing behind the greeting area incessantly scratching her head and arms in front of her manager and customers waiting to be seated. That was the last straw and will not return to this restaurant. The management needs to pay more attention to the details to avoid potentially making their customers sick.

I visited this location with a friend last night. We were seated right away at a clean table. We were offered wine, which we declined. We ordered the risotto bites appetizer, the stuffed chicken marsala and the Tour of Italy. Both were quite good, especially my chicken marsala. Possibly the best part of the meal was our server, Linda. I can't remember the last time I had better service in a restaurant. She checked on us just the right amount of times (not inattentive, but not smothering either), made sure we had everything we needed at all times, and actually asked us what we wanted more of in our salad! During the course of our meal, she brought us two salads that were heavy on the olives and croutons and light on the tomatoes, just like we wanted. She heard us talking about how much we enjoyed the breadsticks, so at the end of the meal, she brought us each a few of them to take home. If you eat out often in the DMV, you know how rare these experiences can be. Bravo, Linda!

I'm so disappointed with my experience here. We ordered the choose three sampler (mozzarella sticks, stuffed mushrooms, and calamari) which was good. Both me and my boyfriend ordered the seafood Alfredo, which we always get. While waiting we got our salad and breadsticks. The breadsticks were cold and hard, the salad was okay. Than our dinner came, completely terrible I took one bite and put my fork right down, my boyfriend took a couple and decided he wasn't eating it either. Our waitress came over and took the food and since it was Sunday and we were trying to go home to catch the football game I decided to get food to go to eat at home. The manager did take both plates off because we did not eat it but than I get home and opened the chicken and shrimp carbonara to eat and it was completely plain. Hardly any sauce just plain and dry spaghetti(see picture). I'm completely disappointed, never had this problem before.

My friend and I went here yesterday. The restaurant was practically empty but they sat us (2 people) at a table for 6. Before I could ask to move the hostess rushed back to the hostess stand. Most of the servers were standing around chit chatting. I just figured that they might need a quick break...no big deal. There were only 2 other tables seated in our section and both had different servers. One table got their food and the other received boxes. My friend and I couldn't even get a glass of water. We saw our server serve her other table and walk back to her friends. After 10 mins I was upset. She finally arrived at the 15 min mark. I made a comment to my friend about how long it took she wanted to give me a lesson on proper etiquette. I walked out and I will never be returning to this location. On the other hand, I was able to get awesome service at another location.

Had Fathers Day dinner here with my wife and youngest daughter. It had been awhile since we visited last and the menu changed. Anyway, it's Olive Garden. The food is decent but not spectacular. The service was typical big chain average; not great, not terrible. No real complaints. Why only 3 stars? It's just average. But we came here because it had been awhile and when you're in the mood for Italian, this is available and a known. Of course we'll visit again when we have a hankering for Italian.

  • Ma-e M.

The location is kinda hidden. This is a good thing in my point of view. I like to go here than the one in Arundel Mills Mall that can be a long wait to be seated and served. The food is consistent to Olive Garden's standards. I'm satisfied especially with my favorite zuppa that is unlimited but I keep it to 2-3 bowls of serving or else I will be really really sorry.

We each bought the $12.99 special in our group of four. Waiter very attentive, kept coming back. Free wine sample. Not as good ambience as Macaroni Grill but good value and food.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
