Stopped in before my friend's flight today from BWI and had the mushroom swiss burger. Juicy, flavorful, nice and hot. The French fries were just right- not too salty, crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. My friend had the crabcake and enjoyed it very much. Our waitress was polite and efficient. If I'm ever in Catonsville again, I'll come here for lunch.

Jennings is a staple of Catonsville that my husband and I frequent every few months. This is our Go-To place for down home American cooking. When you walk in, it takes your eyes a minute to adjust to the red Formica-top tables & bar, crimson lace curtains, and wood paneling. You think to your self... did i just step back in time to the 1950's? Yes, I think so. This family owned and operated restaurant has been in business for many years and the star waitress Peggy Bailey is well known throughout the community. If you don't arrive early, you will be waiting awhile for a table. The menu is huge and everything I have gotten has been delicious. The portions are HUGE so bring a big appetite or you'll be taking a doggy bag home. We have brought many family and friends here and Jennings never disappoints!

Jennings is a relic of another time, when people ordered hot roast beef sandwiches, taps contained only bud or miller, and posters of horses on the wall were devoid of irony. Although this place isn't going to show up in any Michelin guides, it is still a great place to watch the O's game and get a slice of what "Main Street" Catonsville used to resemble. Also, anything with crab here is awesome.

I felt compelled to write a review because this place ruined my night. First, the service is completely non-existent. Second, the prices are way too expensive. Third, the quality of the food itself sucks. Four, the portions are small. Horrible experience! DO NOT GO

Came in to order a wrap to go and it took them over an hour!! The patrons at the restaurant seemed to have also been waiting a long time for their food. Overheard several asking how long until their food was out. Really slow service. To top it off, when I got my wrap they had messed up and gave it to me as a salad instead.

I've lived in Catonsville for 20 years and never stopped in here before. It was much cozier and more inviting than I expected. We stopped in for a drink just after the tree lighting ceremony and the place was packed. I'll be back next weekend, so I'll update my review after I have more info.

Great atmosphere and service. The food is very basic was looking for something a little more with my Oyster Sandwich like a good bread or sauce. Came on a busy night and they can really handle a crowd!

Our party of five forced a reorganization of their dining room, but it was done quickly and pleasantly. Orders were taken promptly by what appeared to be a new waitress. She had to come back to the table a couple of times to verify portions of the order. The food was hot and delicious. I should have taken a picture but my fried crab cake sandwich was too good and I did not have enough control to stop munching. The oyster sandwich, broiled crab cake sandwich, turkey sandwich and wrap were also amazing. Three of the five orders came without the requested ( GREAT) fries, but this was rapidly corrected. Although the waitress had some issues, her attitude was so lovely we had to cut her some slack. Can't wait to go back!!

I visited this restaurant around 4pm on a Friday afternoon and had a seat at the bar. It was a nice little spot and after being there for just a short while, I immediately noticed that this is one of those establishments where everyone knows everyone. The staff called each frequent guest by name and likewise the patrons addressed the staff. I ordered the MD Crab Soup, a fruit punch, an electric lemonade and chicken tenders. The fruit punch was ok, nothing special. The MD crab soup came out quickly and it wasn't bad but I typically like my crab soup to be a bit more seasoned, but there was a decent amount of meat in it. The electric lemonade was strong which is good (considering most places water down their alcoholic drinks). The chicken tenders were large in size and did not come with fries (and I understand why, you'll be plenty full from the meat). The only downside is that is did take quite a while for those to come out but that's more than likely because the dinner rush started pouring in around 5:30. The restaurant is sectioned off into the main area and an area called "Peggy's saloon" which seemed to be most patrons area of choice, The restaurant is small and it did fill up quickly so I would suggest that if you're trying to bring a large crowd that you call ahead early in the day and see if you can make arrangements, Overall not a bad place to eat and visit. Stop by and give it a try,

This is our go-to place for comfort food and happy hour. Great prices, comfy setting and totally unpretentious. Don't go if you 're in a hurry; this is the kind of place where you just relax. Tvs are on but no volume so sports fans can watch but it doesn't interfere with the conversation.

Had the special Patty Melt w/fries tonight and it was probably the best I've ever had! I should have taken a picture of it but I ate it too fast! It came loaded with a huge slab of beef, grilled onions, bacon, and two slices of provolone cheese! Emm! Husband had the fried shrimp platter and thought it was average. Again, we're out of town so pretty spoiled for our hometown grub but if your in the area and was the best patty melt come here! It's a local pub place so it's nice to see the locals come in. The waitresses seemed to know them all and know their stories. Nice to see a place like that. Back at home that is one thing you won't get.

Just a real nice place. The food is home cooked right there. It is nicely prepared and very generous. Friendly local place.

A great local Catonsville place. My friends and I frequent this establishment. I work right across the street. The beer is cold, the waitresses are pleasant and the food is always hot. Typical bar style cuisine, but we've never been disappointed. I've had better steaks elsewhere, but my favorite is the open face roast beef sandwich with a side of fries and gravy. Their soft shell crab sandwiches are also delicious, the closest to my moms!

It may be unfair to call Jennings a dive, but it is certainly devoid of pretention, which can certainly be a good thing. Between the unassuming storefront, wood paneling, prominent bar and the scrawled specials board, you can certainly get the wrong idea about the place, but the large crowd eating there on a weeknight certainly seem to think it's the right place to be. They have a small draft selection, only three beers, but that includes Killian's and Fat Tire and with the full bar I'm sure they must have something to please everyone. We started with an order of the chicken livers, which were a tad over breaded and over-fried, but not egregiously in either case, and were not a bad match with the cocktail sauce they were mysteriously served with. I found the fried shrimp and onion rings I ordered as satisfying as I expected, and my wife really enjoyed the salmon wrap they had on the special board. A nice little place if you're in the area.

Just needed a bite to tie me over until dinner. Had a salad and garlic bread. No big deal on either front. The waitress was not friendly at all, kept coughing and blowing her nose and never washed her hands! All for $13 with tip and no goodbye or thank you when I left. First and last time here.

Basic but good. I keep getting turkey Reuben's and they are great. The potato or Mac side salads have been good. If u get seated on the left side behind the bar you might get to meet a Catonsville institution named PEGGY. She is awesome! My friend, a picky screenwriter, got A hamburger and an open faced turkey sandwich and liked both. If u want comfort food turkey sandwich is her recommendation and if u want a good burger they got that too. She 2nds my opinion on the side potato or Mac salads.

My last memory of coming here was many, many years ago when smoking was still allowed in bars; there were cigarette burns on the tablecloths and my aunt was slinging back black Russians--an old-school cocktail for an old-school joint. Happily, the tablecloths have gone the way of cigarettes in restaurants, and although Jennings still retains its vibe of yore, it feels rather cozy and quaint. At lunch on a Monday, the place was pretty busy, and our service was provided quite competently by two servers, one significantly younger & friendlier than the other. We had the crab soup--an excellent, ideally spiced concoction brimming with veggies and enough crab meat to satisfy. The burger I had (medium well) was large and satisfying, and my husband's turkey reuben wasn't too shabby, either. Overall, good solid food. I would return for the crab soup alone.

I got a shrimp salad sandwich which was just OK until I found the piece of wet papertowel in it. My husband got the meatloaf and it tasted like cafeteria food. Won't be back.

I've eaten here about four times now and cant find not one thing to complain about. The service is always prompt and friendly & with sports center on every TV at lunch time its a great change from the usual G.L. Shacks stop. The Maryland crab soup was very good and the grilled tuna salad was so on point. I had a client that advised me to get the hot turkey sandwich with gravy fries on my next visit.

We love Jennings! What a great hole in the wall bar/restaurant. We always enjoy our meals and even more than that we enjoy the friendly staff. They always make us feel welcome and are very nice. We love going to Jennings and getting some quality food.

Super friendly old school vibe resides here. The actual dish i got (open faced turkey sandwich) was slightly above average but honestly there was at least 10-12 menu items i could have gone with. Thus this place has a high ceiling in which to imporve its star ranking as far as food is concerned. Extra points for two things that are near and dear to my heart: 1. Homemade ranch dressing that is so good my bathing suit area started to feel funny. Ranch dressing is the key to any bar food type establishment, which this spot mos def is. 2. They actually have Imperial (Rye) which outside of some old school city bars in Philly and NY I have been unable to find. So to have this in suburban Maryland is pretty damn impressive.

If you are looking for a neighborhood restaurant that is not a chain, with decent / simple food, decent but not exceptional service, and a comfortable, but definitely not fancy decor, then Jennings is a good choice. Dinner / evening recommended... somewhat dark but cozy... bar type lighting. Beer selection is weak (most exotic thing they have is Sierra Nevada or a Sam Adams). Hamburger is excellent... ditto potato salad.

I love this place! I eat here several times a month with some friends. The burgers are juicy.. I mean JUICY! The liverwurst sandwich is STACKED with thick slices of liverwurst. But you know what really hooked me? The time I ordered a Ceasar salad. I asked for the dressing on the side. When our food was delivered I stuck the tip of my fork in the dressing and tasted to see if it was worth putting on the salad. And I tasted anchovie! Anchovie? I couldn't believe it.. I asked Annette (bartender) if the dressing was homemade and she said that all of the salad dressings are made right there, on site. SOLD! And a big shout out to Omar, the owner, who now stocks Pabst longnecks at our request.

Waitstaff are really pleasant, friendly and considerate. The crab cake was mediocre (full of filler). Decor consisted of lots and lots of dark wood paneling. It was homey.

I was really unhappy with the whole experience at Jennings. We've never been there before and we walked in and waited about 10 minutes while three waitresses and a bartender stood around until finally one said "sit wherever you want". If that is the case there should be a sign. My JUMBO shrimp salad was pathetic, there were maybe 5 small (probably the kind that you unfreeze from the store) shrimp and it was soaked in dressing. Gross. I've always heard great things so maybe it was just the day, hopefully next time will be better.

A Baltimore/Catonsville classic with knotty pine walls and just enough room to move. Stick to the ribs food prevails. Meatloaf is good. My favorite is the hot turkey sandwich with, of course, gravy on the fries!! Yummy. A great place for a burger and a beer at lunch. Veggie crab soup is good too.

This is the place for drinks and appetizers, not dinner. We came here due to having a Groupon. I had been instructed to try the gravy, which is fabulous. We ordered mozzarella sticks (which were good, but just fried- could have been frozen), sliders (which were BANGIN') and potato skins (EXCELLENT!) for our appetizers. When it came to entrees, I ordered the seafood platter, my partner ordered the soft-shelled platter, and our neighbor got the cheesesteak wrap. Now, the wrap was very good. However, his softshell platter was cooked in the same oil as everything else, leaving an almost burnt taste on the tongue. My crabcake was not good; not a lot of flavor, overly shelly, and dry. The shrimp were fine, but nothing to write home about. The fish filet was flavorless as well. The clam strips were very good, but we shouldn't pay $23 for just clam strips. I had french fries with gravy (NOM!) and "zesty green beans" which were green beans doused with garlic pepper. These were unappetizing and I didn't finish them. For dessert, I tried the cheesecake, but am allergic to cinnamon, so couldn't eat it. They did take it off the bill. We also had some Boston Creme Pie Cake or something, which was ridiculous to look at and uber rich. In short, come here for a game or a night of drinking, but not a night to impress your sweetie. Prices were decent enough, but the food wasn't good enough to warrant a $50 bill. Drink selection is decent and mixed drinks are good enough ($4.50 for a Jack and Coke). Will say that waitresses are amazing and friendly; very cordial staff and quick to swipe plates or bring out food. Too bad the food wasn't as good as I was expecting. Also, there is a parking lot in the back, if you can get there and fit. We had to park in the shopping center next door, which wasn't too far of a walk, maybe half a block. But there are signs in the back to NOT PARK because the surrounding businesses will have cars towed. If you're parking in the back, just make sure you park by Jenning's and nowhere surrounding it.

A bar/restaurant with the type of lighting that makes everybody look attractive. You feel like you're really in Classic Baltimore with Orioles playing on the TV screens, casually dressed customers eating delicious comfort food, and fun songs on the juke box (ranging from Perry Como to AC/DC). There is one waitress who is truly legendary and who was once voted the Best in Baltimore. The bar tenders are absolutely awesome. And they're very nice to kids.
