It's true, you can't judge a book by its cover. I entered DuClaw and instantly loved the industrial steam punkish decor. However shortly after I was seated is when my opinion changed. The restaurant was practically empty for a Saturday afternoon. That should have been my first tip but I was excited to see the varied menu. The Asian and seafood dishes along side burgers and pasta seemed interesting. I went with the Gypsy Glow (fish) and chips. I waited...and waited and my drink arrived finally. Don't order the water! It has to be tap (or a rusty hose?!) with the iron taste it had. I continued to wait and watch others who arrived after me be brought their meals. My waitress assured me my meal was coming and finally it arrived. I wish I had taken a picture before I started but most of it is still in the pictures I included in my review. The fries were disgusting and clumped together in a salty greasy mess which was cold...and the fish was about 75% batter. I picked through it and got the meat out so I could hold off hunger until I left and went somewhere else. I noticed they didn't bring the cold slaw that was suppose to come out with my meal and I had to remind the waitress twice to bring it. I should have not tried...it was a nasty mess. How can coleslaw taste like bad fish? They managed to answer the question. Avoid this place. I left hungry and frustrated.

My husband and I have been there before but it had been a while so we went last night. They have a good sized outdoor patio--rare in Bowie--and we got a table there, which was nice...unfortunately there seemed to be a staff and their friends table right in the middle of the patio where they smoked, played loud music from their cell phone, spit on the sidewalk, and put cigarettes out in an empty flower pot that then kept smoking so they threw a beer on it. While our waiter was nice, it seems like the restaurant doesn't allow waitstaff to write down orders and he couldn't remember ours and of course got it wrong--and the only change was no "Arizona spices" on the chicken burger. And, for some reason even though lettuce, tomato, and chips came with my sandwich, it came with french fries instead and no lettuce or tomato! He did bring out lettuce and tomato later...and when I had 1 bite left of my sandwich, he brought a fresh batch of chips, which I said 3 times I didn't need. He also had to repeat the order (including the beer choice) several times. In the men's restroom, one soap dispenser was broken and on the counter, and heavily censored rap played on the speaker system in the restaurant. Otherwise, the food was fine. My husband thought the french dip sandwich was yummy and my Arizona chicken sandwich was good. They do have a great beer selection.

This place is horrible. The food is bland, and the service is the absolute worst. Our food took 90+ minutes to deliver (in waves). Our order was incomplete and the manager was completely complacent with the bad service when we asked for his help after three of us waited 90 minutes for a soup and 2 sandwiches that were never delivered. Don't ever come here. Exchange of the night: Server: "Bison burger?" Patron: "I ordered a cheeseburger." Server: "I could MAKE it a cheeseburger...."

Allison our greeter (and waitress?) was awesome. Food was not good. Should have yelped prior to coming. Bathrooms dirty. Glass of water had food in it and around the rim. The pretzel crab had very little crab... It was more like sour cream with old Bay seasoning! Peppers and rice had raw rice. Burgers were only ok. Beers were so so. Kentucky mule was GREAT. Compliments to the bartender. THE MANAGER NEVER CAME BY TO FOLLOW UP ON THE BAD FOOD. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE ON HIS OR HER PART. My wife and I do not recommend this location. No wonder it was dead inside during happy hour on a Friday.

Repeat customer but the quality of food is getting worse every visit. The menu is not focused they offer EVERYTHING to eat but I think the only thing that's tasty is the French fries. If you love beer YES duh it's a brewery. BUT there are plenty of others that have a great menu to accompany.

Great selection of beers. Prices are reasonable. I would definitely love coming here. This place is huge and deserves more crowd. Food can be better. If they can fix food i am sure these guys can grow. Also they need to make this place more lively. Like better music etc.

Very bad service. Sat at the bar and did not enjoy the experience one bit. Will not be returning.

My wife and kids took me to DuClaw last night for Father's Day. Overall, it was a good time because the food was good and I was with my family. Fist, there was only a 5 minute wait which was cool. Our waitress wasn't very welcoming and I had to ask for the alcohol menu... strange. We all ordered and the food came in a decent time frame. Big problem surfaced as my daughter found a hair in her french fries!! When we alerted our waitress, she said that she would alert the manager, but why not immediately remove the fries and bring fresh ones? Instead my daughter waited for another 10+ minutes for the manager and then another 5+ for fries! Also, the AC unit above my wife dripped on her a few times. We alerted the waitress and she just said, "we know about it, it's just condensation." I know what it is, I need you to do something about it! The manager came over and wiped off the AC unit above our table. After all that happened, you'd think they would comp a meal, give a gift card or something. They showed that customer service is truly dead in this establishment and although I love their food and drinks, I probably won't return.

The service was great! The mozzarella flatbread was delicious and the crust is nice and soft. Very nice

I wish they had this restaurant in North Carolina where I live! Awesome extensive (but not too big) menu with great food! The beer is amazing and surprisingly well priced for a microbrewery. Very private booths, so you secluded and don't feel like you are eating with guests in adjacent booths. This is definitely be a stop I make when traveling through Maryland in the future!

Go to the Hanover location if you are close enough. The bartenders here tend to be slow and inattentive. I have mentioned to a buddy of mine, and he agreed, that if the service here was better, this place would be far more profitable than it already is. One of the bartenders said a new growler would cost $48, and the Hanover location quoted me $42 for the same growler with the same beer. The other difference was that the bartender in Hanover handed me a receipt for $42 while the bartender in Bowie didn't offer a receipt which was shady... The beer is great, the service here, not so much.

Where do I start. First of all if I could give this place zero stars I would of. Let's list this review: 1. Waiter should use a pad to take orders. He went to place our drink and came back to get the rest of the order because he forgot. Same thing with apps and entrees. 2. Calamari came out in one big clump and stuck together. Oh it once we broke it apart it was as chewy as rubber bands 3. The old bay tator tots had no old bay on them. Straight from the freezer. 4. Had a few other apps to share but it took 10 minutes to get app plates so all the apps were cold 5 entrees. Let's just say they all were horrible. The steak was over cooked and cut with the grain so it was chewy and very tough and over cooked. My French Dip had two dry slices of meat and stone cold. The fella had a crab cake sandwich and it was the size of a golf ball. Took ten minutes to get ketchup for fries. Will I be back next time I am in Bowie, Md? HELL NO

My husband and I live within a 1 miles radius of the restaurant, and all of the local Bowie bars, this place is in a class of its own. We always sit in the bar area. The bartender Joe, is super friendly and accommodating. He allows you to try the different beers until you find the one you like. The food for a bar is actually pretty amazing. We have had the chicken tenders, the burgers, the wings, and the gyro. We have not been disappointed. When we want to stay local, and not drive the 30minutes into DC, this is the place to go. Give it a try!!

Both myself and my girlfriend ordered their BLT Mac and cheese which arrived cold, tasteless, and with an unsettling grey color. Along with the inedible pasta the accompanying bread basket for ordering an entree was nowhere to be found until requested halfway through the meal at which we received cold stale bread. Unfortunately the quality and speed of service did not offset the below mediocre food. The waiter was very slow to arrive at our table and never checked back in to see how the meal was. After the food hit the table he wasn't seen again until we caught his attention to inquire about the missing bread. All in all our experience here was terrible for the prices paid. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and will not be returning in the future.

I saw the bad reviews and wanted to avoid, but my team and I went for beers and snacks at 3pm on a Tuesday. Not very busy and the staff was attentive. Beer was great...fried pickles were awesome...an all around good experience. I really like the Duclaw in Anne Arundel. I hope this one can get their $hit together as they have all the right stuff to be awesome!

Love, love, love DuClaw! We frequently come here and have never been disappointed. The food is absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is great. They run specials during football season and other times of the year. They have a pretty decent beer selection but definitely ask what is on draft because the menu isn't always accurate and it's usually a long list they have to run down...this is the only reason for the 4/5 stars. Highly recommended coming here if you're in the area.

I just simply love DuClaw. They have changed there menu a few times over the past year or so and each time it is a great addition. I tried the jalapeños wrapped in bacon and it was very good. Pepper wasn't over or under cooked, it was just right. The bacon was wrapped perfectly around the pepper with the cream cheese nestled between it just oozing out jjjuuussstt a little bit #mouthwatering I got the catfish fingers which were yet again delicious! The breading wasn't heavy and was seasoned enough so that you could taste the seasoning and the freshness of the fish. Now let me take a moment to tell you that I do not usually eat catfish. The texture of it grosses me out but I decided to try it this time and can happily say that I was pleasantly surprised. The fish was cooked perfectly to the point the of it being flaky and falling apart! It was NOT overcooked. It was very good! Now for the kicker I am not a beer drinker but decided to step out of my comfort zone (yes it was one of those kinda days lol) and tried one of there new beers. The name of the beer is MORGASM! It is a grapefruit flavored blonde ale and let me tell you it was delicious, refreshing and light! Nice hint of grapefruit flavor. Definitely give Duclaw a try I'm sure you will not be disappointed!

DuClaw is awesome to have so close to my house. Great Beer Selection. The food has a wide variety and is very good. Had a Short rib panini yesterday. I give two thumbs up, will be back a good amount of times.

It appears the majority of the bad reviews here were related to the service or lack of instead of the food. It is fair to do that. But since my service was good, I didn't have a problem in that area today. Food seems to match the quality in the other chains that I've been to. Nothing extraordinary, nothing bad.

Lighting is too dark. Tables are large with big booths. It's good for privacy bit made for a weird environment. The food was terrible. I got kale salad and it had no taste my friend got the ramen with chicken and the sauce came out like thick soy sauce. The fries were good but us both to sleep bc they were heavy. The crab cake slider was fine but was as big as my thumb. I was disappointed because before the menu changed recently their food was great, it was fresh and seasoned. I hope they can make some adjustments its an interesting ace with a unique design there are not many healthy eating options for bowie town center.

In theory this place is really good. Atmosphere was interesting and unique, service had potential, and menu had a lot of interesting things, the dishes were decently presented and the portions were large. Just didn't deliver for me though. * Fried calamari-- crispy but the batter kept falling off. Slightly spicy. None of the aiolis were good... One tasted too sour, the other was like an imitation of Asian sweet and sour sauce, and the last one was just good by default. Nothing out of the ordinary. * Crab ravioli - pasta was too thick. Took away from the filling and was just doughy. The arugula was a nice touch and flavor addition though. * Fish n chips (called something else) was GIANT. Two huge chunks of fish, alas, they were flavorless. * Duck fat fries: not that great. Kind of soggy, not a good duck fat flavor, and way too much rosemary sprinkled everywhere. Not great. * hot spiced cider: i got it with a shot of the caramel vodka. Really sweet.. It tasted good but... A little too much like melted caramel and straight up candy... * beers were good, and they are willing to bring out samplings. It just wasn't very cold. Service? Our server was good-- tried hard. Unfortunately he just kept using the fact that he didn't drink as am excuse to not know the menu... He also didn't put down that I had upgraded to duck fat fries so brought out regular. And when I mentioned it... He took the whole plate.... Cleared off the fries and bits of my fish... Left my one whole piece of fish.... And brought out another order of fries. What if I wanted to eat the other pieces of fish!??? Why did they do that? Ugh. From the moment I stepped inside to the moment right before I put the food in my mouth: 5 stars. Once I tried the food..... it all went down hill. Allot of potential though. Their beers are good.

Sadly a few months ago I would have given duclaw a better rating. The last two visits however have really disappointed us. Both times we've been forgotten. To be fair we had the same server for both visits and while he's nice... I don't think being a server is his calling. Sorry Ricardo. It'll be quite a while before we come back.

I would give this restaurant 0 stars if possible. Our server was slow and unresponsive at times. We waited 20 minutes with just water before he returned to the table. We constantly had to get the host in order to have him paged the server. Upon inquiring about the price of the rye whiskey on tap that took him 15 minutes just to answer the question of the cost. All of the food arrived at the table at the same time appetizers and main dishes. All for the food to be bland and freezing cold. Took over 10 minutes for the check to arrive. It was my first and also my last time going to Du Claw Bowie. Ten thousand thumbs down

Can I give them a zero? Food was absolutely, positively HORRIBLE. Ordered carne asada meal for 2 @ $19 each. Beef: overcooked and rubbery to the chew. Ate one forkful, and that was enough. Rice: Quite dry, unappetizing to the eye and even worser taste. Again, one forkful. The manager was summoned and he took the meal portion off the check. My companion, who usually does not complain about a meal, this time pushed away immediately from the table and said, "Duclaw ought to be ashamed to even THINK about serving this." Service wasn't any better, considering it took more than 45 minutes to get the meal in a virtually empty restaurant. This was our third -- and last -- visit. Clearly, the management and its owners think people will be so inebriated that they don't care what they eat. So wrong, so very wrong. Visit at your own risk. I've even emailed their headquarters about this, but I don't expect a sane reply. Will keep you posted.

Good beer, good food, terrible service. This place could be great but due to the service it brings it down so much.

The bartenders are always great. My go to are Jesse and Moe because they know my beer and food choice as soon as I walk in. The servers are normally great in the bar. Service is always quick and foods and drinks are always on point. I can't say the same for the restaurant side. I personally have only had one good experience out of many on that most of it derives from very slow service (which confuses me because of how awesome their bar side is...) They have all day happy hour Tuesdays (which is when they are normally busy all day) and happy hour after 10pm on Thursdays. Du Claw also has regular happy hour times, those are just extra. They have great game day specials too. I've been going here since 2007 and have made it my home bar, and the only reason why it's not 5 - stars for me is because the restaurant side.

The bartender this morning was awful. Not friendly and acted like he could care less that we were there. Normally, the bartenders are great, but this guy clearly had no interest in being friendly. If I'm spending 16 bucks to fill a growler, I expect at LEAST a smile and a talk above a mumble. Rethink Saturday lunch if you don't want a cold shoulder

Been back a few more times......sat in the bar area. While our simple orders of beer and apps came out good, there was a myriad of complaints coming in from the dining room and patio.....smh over hearing the staff try and figure things out....entertaining I suppose....not for those customers. Hopefully they can straighten things out, the beer is really, really good.

Service at this location was terrible. The server we got places us upstairs away from people and forgot about us completely. Had to ask for utensils for my girlfriend several times. Food was pretty sub par and their booze selection isn't that great either. I recommend keeping this one off your list for a Saturday night

I used to be a regular at DuClaw . I moved away 5 years ago, but I happened to be in DC on business and figured I'd make my way back over to Bowie. Wow, has this place gone downhill. The food is average at best. And the service is incredibly slow! I don't blame it on the wait staff, it's the kitchen. No way it should take 30 minutes to make a mediocre sandwich. And another 20 minutes for tater tots? Tater tots?!?! You pull 'em out of the freezer and drop 'em in the fryer, it's not like you had to harvest the potatoes. I told the manager and he said they were short staffed that night. Sorry, I'm not buying it. The place was most definitely not full. There were long lines waiting outside other nearby restaurants, but not DuClaw. Clearly, those folks know where to go. And next time I'm in town, I'll know where NOT to go!

The fall of a Titan! (At least in my eyes) Sunday's during the football season were a sacred time for my friends and I at Duclaws. We would all show up an hour before the first kick off just to watch pre-gaame and talk trash and also set up our little section of the bar because it can get pretty packed. After the first menu change which I address in one of my previous reviews it was a shock but we adjusted. Wings went up burgers were put on the football menu along with other new items and the hours changed. (Really wasn't a fan of that) Then last year they completely did away with the wings on the football happy hour menu. This was mind boggling to me. How do you drink beer watch football and not have wings!? At the time the crew and I didn't have another move or place to go so we just smiled and waved. (Madagascar) So in the last 2 months I have been to this place only twice maybe three times and that was only to see some of the employees.... Duclaws will always have a place in my heart but all of the changes have pushed a ton of grand openers away.

Beer is awesome and it is a good happy hour spot. However, I don't like the changes they made to the menu. They should have stuck to good pub food instead of trying to be fancy. Service is average for the area but they are normally really nice.

The food was fine, but the service was ridiculously SLOW. (And I'm usually the one who complains that restaurants rush customers through their meals.) Don't go here if you only have an hour for lunch!

  • Jason D.

I used to love the Bowie Duclaw. But this Sunday at 6:30 the place restaurant part was nearly empty but it still took 10 minutes to seat a party of 3. After that the service was painfully slow. Worse than the slow service the formerly great food was lousy. The kid's mac and cheese was smaller than it used to be and barely warm. The kale salad was tasteless. The fish and chips had a meager portion of chips and the huge slabs of fish were slimy and tasteless with a thick oil-soaked batter. So much oil that it left a pool on the plate. The server was surprised when I asked for vinegar and returned with a little cup of it. Beer and dessert were good as usual, however. The following day is one of unsettled stomachs.

If giving Negative stars were an Option, it would have been utilized. This was a truly appalling experience. We visited several months ago, and it is still resonant with me. We came to this facility for a friend's small retirement party. The restaurant was notified well in advance that we would have a group of 12 - 15 people. There also happened to be a Soccer Team Party at the same time, a group of about 40 people. We were not notified of such, and were ensured when we arrived that this would not be a problem. As a result of the Soccer Party, all large tables were taken up. The staff attempted to shove together some small tables in a corner for our party, which sat about eight people, but everyone else was forced into booths nearby, where they were too far away to meet with and converse with the rest of the party. The server came around and took orders for drinks and dinner from the party. Then came the haphazard procession of meals/drinks and appetizers. First came drinks, relatively together. Next came one or two appetizers followed by a few people's meals. It got to the point where some people had finished their dinner, and others hadn't even received theirs. People were still receiving their entrees IN BOXES as the PARTY WAS ENDING. Absolutely absurd. The manager for the day, a frazzled middle aged woman with short hair, seemed completely uncaring about our situation when complaints were made. The quality of the food was par for DuClaws, but the service was absolutely uncalled for. One would think that the manager would make some sort of apology for the quality of service. Her apology was short, insincere, and her futile attempt at redemption were a couple of less than 20$ gift cards for DuClaws for the customers that ended up taking their meals To-Go due to slow service. It can be assured that they will be given away or shredded after this experience!

This place wasn't too bad, but I must admit the reviews put us off. The beer is fantastic (Sweet Baby Jesus is one of the best beers I've had). We only had beers and appetizers though, and ended up going somewhere else after we dived deeper into the reviews. Service wasn't bad at all, but the place was dead on a Saturday night, which was pretty shocking. Yeah, the weather was kind of bad, but not bad enough to keep people away. Definitely come for the beer, one of the best microbrews in Maryland.

Typical unimaginitive pub bar food but the theme goes since the place is more known for their beers. Come hungry for the beer and if you get sloshed enough then order food don't do it the other way around. Their chicken salad was pretty big when I went for lunch and looks like a good menu for happy hour I must check out soon.

Omg, this was the worst restaurant meal that I've ever had. It appeared that there is no seasoning in the building. I had soup and an entree. I didn't know it was possible to mess up soup but they figured it out. The waitress we had was lovely, truly. I told her to get a job somewhere else because if the food was better then she could clean up on tips with her good disposition. I would never eat here again. The waitress and the drink was by far the highlight of that meal. I've been more impressed by the food at Wendy's.

Happy Hour is SO worth going to! I'm not a fan of the rest of the menu and the drinks are ALWAYS good! For me, the happy hour menu makes me feel like I'v gotten my money's worth, otherwise I feel overcharged. Not a beer fan so I can't speak on that.

I was surprised to see some of the negative ratings here for DuClaw as I have been to the restaurant several times in the last year and my experiences have been consistently good. One of the main reasons to go is the beer, I enjoy a variety of beers, so I usually try something new on each visit. The IPAs are of good quality, and there is a nice selection of dark beers to choose from. Euphoria is a notably good beer that has many characteristics of a chocolate stout (though it is not officially labeled as such). The food is mostly good, the only thing I have ever been disappointed with was the beer-battered onion rings, which as a previous reviewer stated seemed like they were frozen instead of fresh-made. On my most recent visit, I went with a friend, who ordered the Mysterium Crab Linguine and I ordered the Spicy Jambalaya, both of which were good, with the seasoning on the Linguine's red sauce being particularly nice. The menu changes on a regular basis as they experiment with new things, so this can be frustrating if you have a favorite that has been discontinued, or you go at a time when there are fewer options. The service is typically solid, I have occasionally received great service and I have never received poor service. Most times I get someone who knows the menu, the beers, and is acceptably attentive, but does not go above and beyond the call of duty. Recommended for beer lovers, and non beer lovers alike for lunch or dinner.

Husband and I met 4 others here on Saturday. The place was pretty empty and we had an entire separate section to ourselves from 8p on. Luis, our waiter, was very nice. This was the 2nd time I'd been here with my husband. It wasn't impressive the 1st time and it was less so the 2nd. It's a brewing company, I thought I'd try beer first. I'm not really a beer drinker but I like the hefeweizen, Blue Moon types. I was told those types had been eliminated from the menu. Okayyyy...so I order a milk/creme based cocktail first and followed up with white wine the rest of the night. My only complaint about the drinks is they are small. The wine glasses were not a sufficient pour, even for a restaurant, so I was able to drink 3-glasses of wine and have a cocktail. I just accepted it and continued to order and enjoy our friends. We ordered onion rings and fried green tomatoes for apps. Both were not good. The "beer-battered" onion rings were the frozen variety and I think that's pretty sad coming from a brewery. The sauces were a joke. Ketchup, whole grain mustard and a sweet BBQ--nothing special right out of a grocery store jar. The fried green tomatoes were nothing of the sort. There was a breading that seemed to be just sitting on the top of the tomatoes. No breading on the bottom, and not fried. We both ordered the fish & chips for our main. The fish was actually good and crispy, although it's no longer rockfish but now cod. The fries were under the fish and so greasy they were inedible. Around midnight we were told we had to get out. The manager tried to be nice about it, but no one likes having their evening halted and we were still ordering drinks. Several others were kicked out of the restaurant and bar area too. What can I say--it's Bowie not DC.

One of these places that I enjoy, but always seem to forget about. Good bar food (and FREE glazed crossaints!), salads and sandwich selection. Nothing to write home about, yet nothing to totally count out. I like that all the locations are equal, so you always know what to expect. It's a good spot for a quick meal, convo and beer (if that's your thing.)

I understand there was a very small snow storm earlier in the afternoon, and I am not a restaurant or bar snob but tonight's service has guaranteed that I will not return. First, clean your taps. Your beers are your company's, these are not domestics you are throwing on tap to please the average patron. Your beers require clean taps in order to fully taste the beers, it is not that difficult. Second, regardless of a little icy rain mix, it is 7 o'clock on a Sunday, and your bar advertises "Football Sunday", with a bunch of specials but your service sucks? Fifteen minutes for a beer .. you are joking right? Well done, you lost an avid craft beer drinker and huge fan of DuClaw Brewing Company.

beer is beer-and it's pretty tasty here :) The bartender was less than average-I had to ask for a menu, no personal interaction, my glass was empty before he asked if I wanted another, the wings were over cooked... it wasn't a place where I'd feel I'd want to go consistantly. I didn't have that feeling at other locations just Bowie...

BAD SERVICE/BAD MANAGEMENT. This was my wife & I's first time at DuClaw. We told the hostess we'd like to sit outside, up on the balcony if possible. She told us just to find a seat. We went upstairs, where there was another party of 8 with menus and drinks. After 5 minutes, no one came up. I went downstairs, and told a server we'd like some menus. She said she'd be up in a second. 5 more minutes passed. I went downstairs, made eye contact with the same server and another. Nothing happened. 2-3 more minutes and I asked another server if we could get a menu. He said the area was reserved for overflow. I asked if we could still sit up there, and he seemed confused and didn't give us an answer. Fed up, we went downstairs. I told him we were leaving and he just said "OK" and didn't try to stop us. I asked for the manager at the hostess station and a meek little woman came over. I explained the situation, and all she could do was wring her hands and say "I'm sorry." She said that the balcony was closed (this is after the hostess said we could sit up there AND there were already people up there AND the 1st server said she'd bring menus up). I told her "I guess we'll just have to go somewhere else" and she just said "I'm sorry" again. My wife said "I know you're sorry, but what are you going to do?" She said she'd help us find a table. I said "I think we'll just leave" and she let us go out the door. RULE #1 IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY: If people are upset at your bar/restaurant, instead of letting money walk out the door, just offer a few free drinks or a free appetizer. If she had done that, we would have stayed and ordered food and drinks. Instead, we went to California Tortilla, where the guy behind the counter was much friendlier than anyone at DuClaw.

Was seated in the bar area for some food. Ordered the beef brisket sandwich with duck fat fries. Sandwich was way too salty and the fries were very underwhelming and not worth the additional 2 dollars. Decent at best, there are a lot of other eating establishments in the area, so duclaw needs to step up its game

I hadn't been to Duclaw in a while, my wife and I went while our power was still out. We walked in about 7:30pm on a Monday, and were told it would be a half hour wait for the table section, or we could sit in the bar or outside for better service. We chose outside, waited about 10 minutes, and never saw a server even peek their heads outside. So we moved into the bar, found a table, and continued waiting. The server finally made their way over (admittedly, it looked like he was the only one in the bar area, so I can understand the delay in getting over) and took our drink orders. A few minutes later he came back, asking what we had ordered for drinks. The drinks eventually came out, and he took our food order. Again, a few minutes later, he came back to verify the type of burger I'd ordered, and he had it wrong. After getting it correct, we waited, and waited, and waited some more. I counted 3 tables in the bar that got their meals, finished them, paid, and left, and our food still wasn't out. We finally caught the servers eye, and asked him about our food - he did get it and when it arrived, my burger was underdone, much pinker than I like. However, it didn't bleed or moo when I bit into it, so I let it go (part because I didn't feel like waiting even longer). When we got the bill, I noticed he had charged us for a slightly more expensive burger than the one I ordered. The amount was quite minimal, so I didn't say anything, mainly because I simply wanted to get out and go home. This particular experience was a 1 star, but overall, and some decent (albeit not outstanding) experiences at Duclaw give it the benefit of the doubt and raise it to the two stars I gave it. I guess like any other restaurant, the server makes the meal, but in this case, there isn't much to write home about.

Really disappointed in the new menu. This location used to be a regular place for us to go have a dinner and drink. We would sometimes go once a week. They had some really good stuff...strawberry pecan salad, the nachos, puff pastry pork...all soooo good. Then one day we went in and saw they had completely changed the menu. I guess they are trying to be more trendy, duck fat fries and all that. We tried a few things and were not impressed. We have not been back since. Boo!!

Wasn't impressed by the food....the people were nice and it seems like a good place to go watch the game and get drinks with friends. I will go back soon and see if the food will be better.

The beer is awesome, as you'd expect. I've tried a range of the food and think that their classic pub sort of offerings are the best. The staff is consistently nice and quick to respond to requests, particularly given how busy the bar area can be. I've taken family there to the sit down restaurant side for meals and everyone finds something they like on the menu. A good choice as a restaurant, a great choice to enjoy beer.

Sign that it was a bad idea to eat here: it's empty on a Saturday night. When you look at the parking lot and see tons of cars, but none of them are for you, you need to look internally and ask if you are doing something wrong. The only reason we went was because there was a 40 minute wait for Red Robin. So we figured heading in for a quick bite would be ok. My problems are in two areas: service and food (wow, I guess that's pretty much everything). The service left a lot to be desired. The server seemed like she had ear plugs in most of the time. She would walk by and my date would be trying to get her attention to no avail. Also, for a restaurant with few patrons, it sure took them a long time to make 3 sliders and a grilled cheese sandwich. Which brings us to the food. It wasn't very delicious or appealing. My slider buns were hard as rocks and whoever had the idea to create "tumbleweed fries" should be shot. Why would you want sticks of potatoes fried to the point of looking like matchstick potato chips? I was constantly stealing my date's fries. Also, I asked for my cheeseburger sliders to not have lettuce and tomato and if they could substitute grilled onions for the plain ones they put on. You would have thought I asked for them to fix the economic debt crisis. I just wanted some grilled onions. Well they did figure our they could give me the grilled onions, but you know what? I ended up taking them off the burger anyway because they tasted like they soaked them in alcohol before they grilled them. If I would have known they didn't have regular grilled onions, I would have just opted against them. So I don't plan on returning again. If Red Robin tells me they have a 40 minute wait, I'll take my chances with the bird and wait.

Good food and Great beer. The beer is on some rotating schedule so they may not have the beer you like on tap that month but give them a chance or two and I am sure that they will have something you like. The food is good also and they have a generous vegetarian selection. If I have one complaint that would be that the waitstaff and bartenders aren't always the most attentive especially to the newbies. Knowing the bartender by name is a definite plus.

What a terrible place - been here once before it was ok, thought we would try again. Waiter was so bad it made the mediocre and overpriced food awful. Pescitarians watch out for clam chowder loaded with ham - and raw potatoes - ham not noted on menu. Waiter asked to use my daughter's crayon to take our order - which may explain why he made so many mistakes. He disappeared for long periods and then reeked of cigarette smoke when he returned. Place was fairly empty, desserts took more than 20 minutes to arrive. When I complained to host I was told sorry the kitchen was backed up. Won't make the mistake of returning to DuClaw.

Drinks suck. Mixed drinks. I found the beers to be very bitter and the food to be bland. I guess you can't mess up a cheeseburger but my husbands food was just ok. Look I just moved here from CA and DBC is really close to me. I can't imagine going again. What a disappointment. Great atmosphere.

What a mess...won't ever be back. On halloween night, we had dinner at Duclaw. The hostess half-heartedly showed us to our table. From a distance, it probably looked like we were following her as she kept on walking pass the table. She made a slight gesture with her arm toward the table as if to signal us to sit down. But she made no attempt to turn around and make eye contact with any of us. FYI - it was about 9 pm and we were all sober. And none of us had on crazy outfits. It seemed as if the staff was ready to go home or somewhere else other than Duclaw. The waitress seemed sweet but she mentally clocked out long before we arrived. I asked for coffee and she brought cold coffee. I had to politely ask for a hot coffee. Not all of us were served at the time although she took our orders at the same time. I had the grilled cheese with ham and a side of broccoli. The broccoli was old...I know because I buy and cook broccoli at home. I know the many states of broccoli. Old broccoli has a tarnished -brownish green color. Freshly steamed broccoli is a bright vibrant green. This was more like dark and dull green. And to make matters worse it was absolutely cold. The grilled cheese with ham was just okay and it was cold as well. I kept my mouth shut because my friends still had food in the kitchen. One friend received her appetizer at the end of the meal. I felt like Gordon Ramsey on Hell's Kitchen. Shut it down, shut it down!!!

Waited a good ten minutes before my Mom had to ask someone from the bar to get a hostess out front. My iced tea smelled like sewage, but my waitress was too busy chatting with her friends two tables down to check on us. Hostess ha to end up coming to change my drink order. Food was okay, but service was horrible. Will not visit this Duclaw again.

Each time my boyfriend and I have come here, we always have bad service at the bar. They just take their sweet time, aren't very attentive, etc. My wings and onion rings are always delish and my boyfriend fell in love with the Colossus beer they had for a limited time, luckily its returning in Nov! My mixed drink was mediocre. The only thing that saves this place is its in a good location and somewhere quick/easy to go before or after a movie or shopping.

My only complaint about my visit, which can't really be a complaint, is that the waiter was new, a little slow, and lost, but he was a cool guy and I think he shows promise. I had the gravy fries which were interesting and probably is only for a select group. They are sinfully greasy, but I enjoyed them. Then I had the steak sandwich which was awesome and then some banana dessert which was heavenly. Great place!! Can't wait to come back to try some more stuff.

First visit .... And the last visit. Charm City veal was barely even rare and asked to have it sent back and actually put on the grill/stove this time. I never saw it again. When my actual waiter came to the table at the end of the meal (he took the order but didn't deliver it, come back to check on us, nor was he the one that returned the veal to the kitchen - but evidently the waitress that did never told him), he asked how my meal was. I told him I was still waiting for the veal - he said he would check but I told him forget it since my dining partner was already finished their jambalaya. He said he'd get the manager who never showed up. Waiter finally brought the check with the entree removed. Only edible past of meal was side Cesar salad. Even the 'cheddar mashed cauliflower' had no cheddar in it and had so much pepper in it that is all you can taste. Sure am glad I had leftovers at home I could eat. Sorry - bad food, inattentive staff and nonexistent management. Guess they were too busy with the large group/party in the front room.

Always visit local brewing places-- Rule of thumb for the beer lovers! It was a decent place with decent, but not wide, collection. Since I like something to chew with my drinks, I wasn't impressed by the bar food choices I got there...

As we drove into the parking lot, we weren't even sure it was open because there weren't any lights on and the flourecent sign was turned on. The main restaurant was completely empty, but the bar area was pretty busy. We seated ourselves at a booth, and a server was there within 2 minutes. She was very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, both taps were bad for the beers we ordered; one was completely flat, and the other was too foamy. That's pretty bad for a restaurant that focuses on it's beer. We ordered a 7-8 items off the bar and sandwich menu, and overall we were disappointed. The Carolina BBQ wings, the crab pretzel, and Chicken BBQ sandwich were very good. The chorizo croquettes were extremely bland; they were basically fried cafeteria mashed potatoes. The salmon cakes were dry and bland. We all paid the extra $2 for duck fat fries, and none of us could taste the difference. We all agreed that it wasn't horrible, but there are way too may better options to go back.

I went there for lunch and ate at the bar. The service was good. The drink I had was ok but my guest enjoyed hers. The food over all was good. The Cubano sandwich was good but could have used more seasoning.

Great food, lots of space and a really fun place to be. The staff were friendly and informative and we even got to talk to a cook about the particulars of a certain meal. I love their beers (except the blonde but to each his own) and will continue to attend with all of my closest friends.

DuClaw is still far from be a BWW, and that is what I love about this place. Great food, great micro brews, excellent people, and for the most part great service. My primary experiences have been from the bar and deck areas, so please locate another review if your interested in finding out about the dining area. First off, there is a great number of televisions in the amount of space of the bar, the tenders are pretty good about locating any game requested as well. The prices for drinks are not too bad given they are crafted beers. *WARNING* anyone that thinks the beer is going to taste the same each time you come back is mistaken, remember they are crafted brews meaning if the seasons change and effect the barely, wheat, or other grains the taste of the brew is effected directly. Second, Happy hour is a decent stretch of time, and the words HALF OFF on food (select items) aways makes me happy. I always get the calamari, and either the chicken tenders (great value for your buck), the wings, and every once in a blue moon one of the burgers. Stick with the Misfit Red as your staple drink and your good to go. Finally, service, having a wide base of service experience to pull from, I'd have to say given the amount of people that turn in and out through the bar and deck area, the service is pretty good, you have your one or two slow servers, but that is anywhere U.S.A., you'll get over it if you are in good company to pass the time. Hope to see you there soon.

Good looking place...good looking servers. There wasn't much on the starter menu I could eat but I tried the Cod. It was overpriced and not much to brag about. I had a few good brews though...among them Black Lightning and the Mysterium.

Well I would have to say I agree with the others, service is slow and the food is so so. We also had the pleasure of a bitchy waitress who said she was too busy to serve us in a timely manner. Wrong answer! The beer isn't too bad so that was at least something positive. It isn't some place I would go out of my way to go to but it was my first time there so it could of just been a bad night. They do have plenty of TVs in the bar so you can catch a game and drink a beer. The Happy Hour specials didn't look too bad, so they would be worth a try. Watch out for the bitchy waitress and all should be ok.

The entrees are great, but the salads are a big lacking in substance. They need to bulk them up a bit if they're going to continue charging upwards of $10. The brews are great. Euphoric/euphoria (whatever?) is awesome! A good, clean finish. The dining area service is a bit slow and lackluster (except for one young lady who was super cheerful and excited about telling her table about the entrees...why couldn't I be seated in her section??). The happy hour staff was really going hard the other night, so I assume the slowness is because of a lack of staff. TVs in the bar area are fine, but definitely not the best place to watch a game. The TVs are 40-inchers at best, and the volume is too low for such a small, crowded, loud bar. It'll do if you can't get to a Green Turtle or Buffalo Wild Wings. Their happy hour prices are awesome! Nachos for $3.99 and $2 off beer and glasses of wine?? Sign me up! (HH is M-F, 3-7pm, all day on Tuesdays.) Will frequent this place, as it is much classier than the other restaurants in the area.

Ok so maybe this review is a bit biased.... I've been coming here for around hmmm 7 years religiously. Between my friend's and I, we've celebrated several birthday's and "birthdays" (a method of getting free awesome fudge cake) for quite a while now. The food is standard American fare, I get the same meal every single time and as long as every component is there - I am just feeling Duclawstic. This is my common Duclaw tale - The host is some kid working part time from high school usually slumping over texting his girl on the 301. We only go during happy hour now which is half off appetizers or a few dollars - something like that - oh and beer is $2 off and since this is a microbrewery and their beer is duclawtastic - it's a fantastic drink happy hour or not. Get the wing's $5 get them "stupid hot" and make sure to say it in a "what the hell were you thinking when you named this?" kind of way. Or get the nachos which are only like .. 3$ or something and it's huge tho sometimes they skimp you on that wonderful dab of sour cream. Order THIS - STICK TO THE SCRIPT AND ORDER THIS MEAL - Arizona burger - Medium rare with fries (extra 50 cent's, yeah i know it's bullshit) 3 cups of blue cheese 3 cups of chipotle sauce. They will look at your funny as if you haven't ordered THE SAME DAMN MEAL FOR 7 YEARS. Then they will say "Oh we will have to charge you for the sauce"(which they just started saying a few month's ago), this is the point you look at them with discontent and they say "oh I'll try and see if I can get you some" (AS IF HE'S DOING YOU A FAVOR FOR NOT CHARGING YOU FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FREE IN THE FIRST PLACE AND HE SAY'S EVERY TIME SIMPLY BECAUSE HE KEEPS FORGETTING YOU EVERY TIME YOU COME BACK.) This place has the worst service I swear -EVERY SINGLE TIME it's always one of the following - I've had soda spilled all over me and my clothes on numerous accounts, server's who refused to fill out water refill and said "we don't suck down drinks here" and walked away after we just nicely asked for a refill, coffee exploded all over my food and clothes - ok well that was actually my friend, servers who wouldn't give us our water or menus for 40 minutes and asking for the manager several times, during happy hour they are severely understaffed, servers who recommended horrible cocktail drinks, servers who skimp you on sauces. The Arundel Mills location has far superior service only to be trumped by the former Fell's Point Location - oh how I will miss thee.. But even through all the terrible service - I still give it a 4 cause if you get the burger the way I stated and you put 2 cups of chipotle sauce and 1 cup of blue cheese on top of that burger...... drool........... soooo good. Their Beer's are awesome, happy hour is a good deal, Bartender is usually nice and I I've had lot's of memories in this place.

Hubby and I ate here for dinner last night. They let us do call ahead and said it was only a 20 minute wait (on a Saturday night yay!) so when we got there 10 minutes later, we were seated right away. I LOVE their buffalo dip appetizer (see photo i uploaded). I had the Arizona Chicken sandwich (see photo). You can get it with a kobe beef burger or chicken, and I chose to get chicken. It was very yummy. I paid the extra to upgrade from their house made chips to onion rings. They are beer battered onion rings, not breaded, which I LOVE. Hubby got the Venom and Chips (see photo). I tried it, it was yummy. Not any different than other places. The tartar sauce was pretty good too and seems to have been made in house. I drank the bad ass blonde brew, wasn't a big fan of this in house light beer. Hubby had the Black Lightening (i think). He liked it....but he doesn't usually find a beer he doesn't like. Service was average. The decor is kind of dungeon-esque.

My wife convinced me last night to give DuClaw's another shot (the last two times were horrible, both service and food). She said they changed their menu and looks like they are trying to improve. We decided to order pick up. We ordered the meal at 6:30 and they informed us 15-20 minutes. We went to pick up the meal at the 20 minute mark. My wife went in and waited at the bar for 10 minutes while the three bartenders joked and ignored her. When she got service they told her that one of my daughters orders was unavailable due to them being out. They ask her if she would like to order something else? She said yes but did not want the food that was sitting there because everything else would be cold. They went and retrieved the manager who said he would personally remake the order and it would be ready in 20 minutes (now 7:20). We picked up the order at 7:40 and went home. When we got home two of the dishes had no sauces and were grease pits, the salad was the wrong type and the meal was just bad. My wife called the manager and he stated "oh I didn't check it" WRONG answer. He said I will call you right back, he did (first thing he got right). He said "I'm sorry I will refund the money for the salad and two dollars for the sauces! I told him the food was greasy and not fit to consume. He finally told me "we have not charged your card yet and I will reduce the bill" (almost in half) and the next time (yea right next time) to ask for him and he will take care of the meal. Kicker when I checked my bank this morning the full amount was charged. Guess they lost a customer for life. Good note: First PBJ sandwich I had in years and it kick DuClaw butt! Don't eat here.

I have been here a few times... and the servcie is always slow ... but the food and beer is usually good. I just went yesterday and had the Sliders - Blackened Mahi; Huli Huli Salmon; and Portabello Burger The Salmon was by far the best. I think the Burger part of the Portabello slider was overcooked.... The shoestring fries... I didn't really get the point of.

When waiting for a movie or taking a break from shopping, Duclaw is definitely a better dining choice in Arundel Shopping Center. The beer sampler: get this only if you are in mood for drinking. Its so much beer!!! (That's a good thing I know but at the time, I felt like I was wasting too much beer.) I only like one of their beers so far but apparently they do come out with different brew constantly so who knows? Maybe next time I will find another that is equally good. Try their jambalaya. Ask for extra sauce because last time I had it it was tad bit dry. Buffalo chicken salad is good too. It can be hit or miss since sometimes the chicken comes out little too salty. Crab pretzel appetizer is worth a try as well. Different twist on crab dip. I don't know about all these 5-star ratings but it is a place for at least one try.

what a treat!! I had a rough day so what better way then to unwind with a great beer and equally great service? here, I got both... and more than I bargained for. I wandered in for a beer and discovered they carry their own brewed beer on tap. Not knowing what I liked- i opted for the beer "sampler platter". I was given a paper place mat and 7 mini beer glasses filled with different kinds of beer. each beer has it's own place and description on the mat. I'm not going to tell you my favorites because it's much more fun to try it on your own... and when your done sampling, you can order a pint to drink or a 64 ounce jawler jug to take home. Not having ate today , I ordered a "yet un-named crab cake sandwich" with a french fry substitute. fries are shoe string style, nice and crispy. the crab cake sandwich was a treat. It started out as a jumbo lump crab cake flash fried and then broiled, topped with apple wood smoked bacon and melted swiss cheese on a pretzel roll. Some how I missed the roll in the menu description but was pleasantly surprised as it was a very nice accompaniment to the sandwich. It is served with a Dijon mustard sauce on the side and typically chips but you can substitute fries for a small charge. I was scanning the menu for other interesting items. duclaw does offer a nice selection if you like typical bar type appetizers, salads that are fancy but not over the top, a nice selection of burger choices and main entrees. next time I go back I think I am going to give the wings a go as they offer them in the following styles: Carolina, blackberry, cajun, sweet and sour or funk. sounds too interesting to pass up. they have four ways to dine- bar, take out, the main dining room and the two level covered out door patio. This time I dined in the bar. the bar atmosphere was dark colored (grey and black painted walls) but lit with two big screen tvs for sports. it featured both ample bar seats as well as small round tables and long better lit booths for larger parties. it was friendly... kind of like watching tv at your home bar with a attentive personal bartender. Bar service was great- just enough service so I didn't want for anything but not too much, I didn't feel bugged. Just the way I like it! they do offer a happy hour monday- friday 3pm-7pm and thursday 10-close. the discounts i saw mentioned listed appetizers (about a $2.00 discount) on items such as pretzel dogs, drunken fries, wings, calamari, mozzarella moons, and skins. they also had some featured non-alcoholic beverage features which sounded tasty- hanks brand root beer, black cherry soda, orange cream soda or regular cream soda as well as pepsi products. If you in the area and like beer, give duclaw a chance. great service, great products and good food.

Four point five stars normally. Five plus stars for the situation. Having gone to high school in Bowie and practically growing up there I'm sure to run into people I know (or have known) all around town. At Duclaw, this is no different. Keely and I were hanging out with a couple friends and we decided to hit Duclaw up for a couple of late night beers. There were only two groups when we got there and we knew both of them. Go figure. Some of them I haven't seen since high school. Some of them we saw last week. Needless to say it was a pretty fun experience catching up and then retreating to have some hang out time with our friends. I still love Duclaw. This location isn't closest to where we live, but once you've been in one, you've been to all. I'm a fan of the Misfit Red so try that out or if you're adventurous, try out their chocolate raspberry stout.

The beer is amazing, simply amazing. They really should stick to just brewing. Do not come in asking for a Miller Lite, if they don't laugh at you, I will. They have their year round staples, then they have seasonal brews. Their "31" brew for Halloween is hands down my favorite. I could drink a keg of that and feel no remorse. The food is okay, and that is the reason for the 3 stars. They have been changing the menu lately and some of my favorites have found their way off the menu. Needless to say, I was disappointed. The other problem is their food isn't that great to begin with. If they are going to change the menu, then they really should be focusing on making a better quality offering. It isn't a place you come for dinner, it is a place you come for a few drinks and maybe have a burger with it. Come in with that intention and you'll leave happy.

Ugh is the first word that comes to mind. I have been a Bowie resident for 10+ years and I've seen this place deteriorate. My BF and I went there last Friday with a plan to have some drinks, apps and sit outside. Big mistake! We sat at an outside table that hadn't been cleared yet and waited for 15 minutes before the waiter came sauntering out and asked us for our drink order. We asked for the table to be clean and he said ok and sauntered back inside. He came back 25 minutes later with our drinks (mine order was wrong) sat them on the dirty table and then proceeded to shoot some cleaning solution into a dirty cloth right above our heads! Toxic particles in our drink? We immediately left and went to that new Mexican spot Poncho 'n Pepes on Rt. 3 in Crofton that was excellent!!! But that's another post. We will never go back to dirty DuClaw. Too bad because DuClaw's is the best location for people watching. Yuck!!!

I would totally go back to this place again. American brewing companies tend to leave little to be desired for our tastes. Duclaw's Double IPA was a great tasting IPA, the porter a great porter, and the Belgian white....very respectable! We had gotten a sample of 6 different beers and then a pint each. I don't consider either of us very "needy" diners, but I was concerned about the previous reviews indicating poor service. Our server, Luis, proved those other reviews wrong. He checked up on us and provided service with a smile. He knew the beers on tap too. We ate in a dining area basically as far away from the bar as possible, so I could tell it was quieter than most other areas. Not that we mind the noise, but some folks may find it too loud. As for the food, we ordered the calamari appetizer...you could it was fried at the right temperature, not overcooked at all, and seasoned well. My partner got a burger and I got the Cuban sandwich. Each of us had their homemade chips which were great (provided you didn't bite into a soggy one). The burger looked like a "pre-made" patty...the bun looked great. He said "it was OK" which, for him, is on-par with a three star review. As I used to live in FL, any opportunity to have something close to what I could get there is fine by me (reference NPR's 'Cuban Sandwich Crisis' article!) I can still taste the pickle, mustard, and ham combination that I had seemingly all but forgotten. Although Duclaw put turkey on their version, it did just fine. We would totally come back again and try their other menu items.

This is a solid choice. I'm vacillating between three and four stars, but I can't justify an extra star. The food was pretty good (especially for a chain), and the beer was also very good. At our table, we had four different beers (out of the 5 they brewed) and each one was very good and somewhat unique. I really liked the fact that all the tables were booths and had higher walls for privacy. The music was low and it was easy to carry on a conversation without yelling - a plus. There were a couple of things that were drawbacks. The service was slower, but it gave our group time to talk and sip on our beers. The menu was very large, and each one of us had trouble deciding on something - I guess this is why the service is slow; it takes people a long time to look through the menu. Additionally, the menu sections (Appetizers, Entrees, Desserts) were all labeled with "catchy" names like "jump-starters" and "hand-warmers". In my opinion, this just made finding the right selection more difficult. DuClaw also did not have a separate drink menu - just coaster-like ads for their in-house drinks thrown on the table. Their desserts were good, but not great. For the price, they were pretty small, and I think you could do better at other restaurants around the area. If you are going to get anything, go for the Chocolate Thunder (chocolate cake with chocolate filling, chocolate chips, and chocolate syrup) - that was a good choice.

Went for Tuesdays all day happy hour the food was good except the fries but the beer is what's important and was great so I gave 4 stars!

Headed here for lunch while on a trip. The place was nice, we sat in the bar area and ordered some of their brews. I enjoyed their seasonal brew which was quite excellent. The service was good, but there really weren't many people in there when I went, so I don't know what it would be like on a busy day. Overall my experience was positive, but it is not a place I would go out of my way to visit. It was worth what we paid which I feel was a good deal.

This place is solid, nothing special and most definitely not a five-star place but given the limited options near the office this was a welcome change from Panera and Chick-Fil-A.

Eh. Not great. My waitress was rarely seen. My chicken parm was bad. My daughter's Mac and Cheese was luke warm. Everyone else seemed to like their food.

We stopped in for a late lunch on Saturday. It wasn't very crowded except for a couple of groups with screaming children. The hostesses were not very friendly. We were seated in a corner by ourselves, so it was relatively quiet. It took longer than usual for our server to come by, but he was very nice. We tried their beer and it was very good. The food was ok, not great, but not bad. Service was pretty slow. The prices were reasonable, even for the beer. If we are in the area again and need to eat, we'll probably come back. The other options in the area aren't great.

If I ever find myself in Maryland again, I'm definitely heading back to DuClaw. Tasty staple and seasonal beers (my favorites are the Misfit Red and the Venom APA). And the food complements the beers pretty well too. The Thai Mussels are fantastic and the Boursin Burger is a treat for cheese-lovers like yours truly. Cheers to DuClaw!

Good beers, decent food...be careful what you come for. If you're in the mood to have a few specialty beers I believe is a creation for Duclaw, you're onto something. As for food. Seeing that I have only been there for lunch, I can say this...the food is pretty good. The portions are pretty generous (with a big appetite, sometimes I don't finish).

I've been to this place about twenty times, and the food is terrific. The Arizona Burger is excellent, and the salads are unusual, fresh, and very tasty. I don't drink, so I can't vouch for the beer that's supposed to be the main draw of this place, but I *can* tell you even a nondrinker will find plenty to like. The potsticker appetizers and the pretzel sticks/rolls are super good. The booths are cozy, and my husband and I regularly bring our four kids here-- they have unusually good grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids, among other things, and offer smiley fries with the kids' meals. The only thing I'd recommend against here is the fried fish-- they change the name periodically depending on what ale or beer they're promoting. The first time I had it a year ago, it was amazing, and the most recent time (about a month ago), it was awful-- the only time I've ever been unhappy with my dinner. I made up for it by eating half my husband's Arizona Burger and pilfering grilled cheese from the kids. Still made out pretty nicely.

Apparently I need to give DuClaw another try because others posters have submitted rave reviews!! I have been to DuClaw at least twice, but I really wasn't impressed with either the food or the service. Then again I went there probably 2 to 3 years ago, so perhaps things have improved since then.

My has this place changed! I left a positive review a few years back, but sadly, I have to say that the restaurant "ain't what it used to be." I had lunch there today and I was disappointed with service and the food. I had the calamari for an appetizer and it was so greasy I had to wipe my fingers with a napkin each time I ate one. I would have used a fork if I had one - I had to ask the server for silverware and napkins. For the main course (yeah, I did have a lot of food but it was [supposed to be] a treat), I had the crab cake sandwich. The crab cake was good, but the bread was as hard as an Italian sub roll. Not ideal for a crab cake sandwich. In addition to that, the chips were burnt and soggy for some reason. I don't know how they pulled that off. I will not return. I should have gone to the panera bread across the street in the first place and I think I will go there for lunch in the future if I happen to be in this area again. Two stars for the crab cake and for the server making a last minute effort.

First of all - Eric is a very knowledgeable, friendly host. He has tasted much of the menu and can offer solid recommendations for you. Secondly - great selection of house brewed beers. My wife and I shared Euphoria and enjoyed the finish (chocolate/almond/toffee). Third - unique assortment of flavors for their wings and great burgers (Turkey avocado and Brew house). Finally - happy hour specials 3-7p typically. Prices are about a third less during this time. Come on in, ask for Eric and enjoy!

Do not dine here. I came here for a friend's birthday dinner and he chose the place because they had been there a few times and service had been fine, until this past Saturday night. We had a party of nine people and even though it was a Saturday night, it was not even close to being packed. It not only seemed like the server had never served before, but also as if she had never dined out because she didn't know that you are supposed to collect the menus after people have ordered and do not hand drinks across the table when you can just as easily walk around to the other side such that you're not reaching over people. The birthday boy and his girlfriend ordered their appetizers before everyone else put in their entree orders and never got it. The birthday boy's girlfriend never got her appetizer or entree. The food left much to be desired. I had the Tunisian (lamb) Burger with duck fat fries. The burger did not taste like lamb, not quite beef either. Thankfully it cost about the same as a regular burger. As for the duck fat fries, some fries tasted like regularly fries, others had some duck taste, and a few tasted full of duck fat. So with people being unhappy with their dishes, poor service, the birthday boy went to get the manager and I thought, "Okay she'll make everyone happy." She apologized for the server but after we had listed everything that went wrong, she merely replied, "Well what would you like me to say?" No immediate offer to cover people's bills, free gift cards, or anything. Eventually, the birthday boy's entree was taken off the bill because something was wrong with it and his girlfriend's two beers were taken off. Big whoop.

I am going to be real about my review here, it's normally good , except when you come here. I have had numerous experiences which left me unsatisfied, though it's not indicative of the brand; this location, which is larger than the one I am used to, services comes short and often leaves their consumer with a bad 'taste' in their mouths. Recently we sat outside, and unknowingly experienced the slowest, and most regretful visit to DuClaw in years. Our server was slow, and incompetent. It would be acceptable if it was her first time servicing tables that evening. But she seemed to be experienced and knew little about the beer menu, styles and just the over-all drink menu. Let me reiterate, DuClaw is a micro-draught / distillery locally based in MD. Not knowing their products is like, not knowing their job. She, had no clue what was on tap, and made us look at the menu's the entire time for the description. Made me look bad since I recommend the restaurant to my friends, based on my Arundel Mills experiences I thought this place was a no-brainier, but ended up making things start off on the wrong foot. The food was good, just as it always it. It's the slow, constant experiences I've had here which got their 2 star review from me. I would say their Chef can prepare some good food, and their menu is good, but not when it takes literally an hour and a half for four people to eat at four pm on a Sunday. Drinks came slower, it was almost impossible to order a second drink, or to get any service at our table.

The menu selection was just burgers and sandwiches and bar food appetizers. You can tell that they try hard but aren't executing well. Service was forgetful and did not know how to prioritize. The food was not worth the price compared to the quality and taste that I received. Read below for my experience. Service, I ordered fried calamari and it ended up coming the same time as my burger. The waiter told me that the kitchen made everything at once, which wasn't convincing because the calamari was cold which is normally a sign that the waiter forgot about the food. I also, ordered a lamb burger medium and even though it might have been cooked, the texture tasted raw. Its like eating a Red Robin burger (i don't like), which by the way is next door to this place, the bun had more texture than the meat patty. The duck fries didn't taste special and it was not worth the extra $2.

Good food, great beer. Crummy service. Noon on a Sunday, fewer than a dozen people in the place, and it took almost 15 minutes to get our drinks. The hostess seemed to be flatlining and the waitress was only slightly more animated.

Food is very mediocre. Great if just beer. Service is very slow. Have a beer then go somewhere else to eat. got my food about 30 minutes after everyone else in the group. Definitely a pass for me ... will not be back.

First thing I'd say is good beer. I wouldn't recommend it for dinner or a family event but great for hanging out with friends for a drink. Stays open later than most places in Bowie Also has a nice outdoor seating area. Crab Pretzel is my favorite.

This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. I have always been a big fan of their beer "Sweet Baby Jesus" so my hopes were very high for my first visit to this brew pub. Upon entering we were surprised to see how empty the dining area was. I was very excited to hear that they offered a flight of all 17 beers on tap so I ordered that along with the bacon meatloaf sandwich. I was interested, in purchasing merchandise and asked if they stocked any beer glasses or apparel, they did not have anything other than 2 basic growlers. I ask to see the smaller sized growler feeling confident that I was going to purchase it since I enjoy collecting them and about 20 minutes later the waitress comes back with no growler and informs us that they only have enough glasses to accommodate one flight. I then offered to just order a different beer on the menu so I asked for the bourbon barrel stout which looked great, of course now they don't even have that beer anymore and the menu is completely out of date. She then reads a list of beer names which tells me absolutely nothing and seemed to have very little knowledge on any of their beers despite working at a restaurant with a title ending with "brewing company." I then pick a random beer hoping for the best and after another 15 minutes neither our flight or my single beer comes. We really tried to give this establishment the benefit of the doubt and stuck through several situations that alone would have justified a customer to walk out, but in the end their wonderful Reese's flavored porter was not enough to keep us there.

Place has a ton of different beers! Did the flight of 6 for $9. They offer the full draft flight for $24 which I think is close to 20 beers! Didn't try the food.

It's been awhile since I've been in here. Me and The Missus were looking for a place to grab lunch and not have to fight with crowds or lines. This was the perfect choice. At 2:3o in the afternoon is was almost empty and the service was pretty darn quick. The Missus had a Margarita which she enjoyed tremendously. They have a variety of sliders which she got and liked - the French fries were not that great - and I got a grilled chicken salad which was pretty tasty. I think this place is more of a boutique drinking place (they have a Trivia Night! Woooo hoooo) but the food is decent and the atmosphere is nice.

Pretty good atmosphere for a Saturday night. I tasted the Seared Ahi Tuna and had the Venom Pale Ale. I'm a fan that particular beer. Next time I'll try something different and maybe I can give the place a better rating.

The restaurant portion of this place always seems to be damn near empty. The bar area is just so-so. It's a rather small bar with tables to sit at right near the bar. The service is a 2 out of 5 in my opinion. It takes a little to long to get food at the bar area because the kitchen is obviously incompetent at timing how to get appetizers out before the main course. Food is kinda pricey, but so is the beer. I expect the beer to be a buck or two more than I'm used to because its micro-brews. Overall a 2.2 out of 5 stars.

  • Jeremy C.

The beer is always awesome although I would love to see more than just Sweet Baby Jesus representing the stouts/porters in the summer. The food is less than desirable and this is at any location I've been to, sure this is a place that specializes in beer but it seems you all are trying too hard with the food. Think simplicity, all of this elaborate food you all offer is over the top and reaching. Simple, delicious bar food for starters and then branch out from there. If the food were better...hell I'd be at Duclaw ten times more than I am for more than just the beer. Think Jasper's (Largo) tiger wings or P.J. Whelihan's hot and honey wings, Copper Canyon's (Glenarden) Fiesta Egg rolls for starters and that should get you in the right direction. Make your food better, revamp your menu, and Duclaw should always be packed. I've often wondered do you all taste the food that goes out. I tried the mussels yesterday and they were less than to be desired, the mini tacos were only edible, the hot wings are edible, the Stuffed Southwestern Peppers are just under edible, the BBQ Short Rib Ravioli is edible only, the crab pretzel and crab flatbread are not as great as ppl rant and rave about, the half chicken which was suggested to me was not a home run (see Lima's Chicken - Pollos a la Brasa or Copper Canyon's rotisserie chicken). Lastly, the pint club is expensive especially when at Iron Hill in New Jersey the membership is half of what Duclaw charges and you get a stein with the membership in addition to other perks...granted Duclaws beer in my opinion is better than Iron Hill's beer but if you are going to charge 65 or 75 bucks for a membership to draw customers in to get great beer but lackluster food at least you could say a dollar off of each item purchased. The goal is to get ppl to Duclaw and what I am speaking of is not as though you would be giving your beer/food away. If the menu doesn't improve I think you should cut your membership cost in half and if it does the cost if fine where it is just allow everything purchased to be one dollar off. I am not one who complains or critiques everything or returns food at establishments no less than once a month but the time before last when I was at the Bowie location and I returned the Ahi Tuna (see Bonefish Grills Ahi Tuna and bang bang shrimp) because I did not feel it was up to the standards it should have been...I am no sushi/sashimi connoisseur or anything BUT I do know when something does taste right...well the chef came out and asked what the problem was...I explained but not in such great detail as you see before you but Duclaw really needs to improve on its food.

Boo. Duclaw has really gone downhill, both in terms of food and service. Usually here twice a year on business, but I doubt we'll be back after Monday night's dinner. Orders were messed up, the food was mediocre, and one of my colleagues ended up wearing a bowl of mussel juice, with little concern from the staff. (This was actually written about a month ago... none of my reviews from that trip posted.)

Just awful. We've enjoyed their beers in the past and would have liked to tonight, but they preferred to ignore us for 15 minutes until we decided to leave. The bar was not that full on a Tuesday night, but the one waitress who was actually working avoided eye contact. We might have complained but the front desk was unmanned as the greeter was busy chatting up one of the other employees while he cleaned windows. I doubt management cares, but we won't be back obviously.

After having visited the Duclaw location in Arundel Mills numerous times I finally got a chance to check out the location in Bowie. In short, visiting the Bowie location was a horrible waste of time. While the meal got off to a good start with our drinks and appetizer coming out without issue, it went down hill in a hurry after that. The wait for our entrees (I use the term loosely as we only ordered sandwiches) dragged on and on until it approached an hour. The waitress didn't seem too bothered by it, and her one attempt at checking in with us came in the form of a quick "your sandwiches will be out in two minutes" from ten feet away. Also, she was apparently using a different method of keeping time, because her two minutes is more like my five. Then, as one last slap in the face we were brought ice cold food, and when we asked that it be taken back all we got was a "I brought it out as soon as it came out" line. Honestly, were it not for the fact that I was with my girlfriend I would have walked out., and I am not the type of person to do something like that. There was no effort whatsoever to reconcile the situation. I will NEVER set foot in this Duclaw location again. Honestly, I will say that I probably won't even go to the Arundel Mills location as often as I used to. In an area with so many options this one is not worth your time.

Limited but diverse menu. Vegetarian options. Super burgers. Yummy appetizers. A local favorite is the crab pretzel. Don't miss the great microbrews. Take home a growler (or 2). Attentive servers. Love this place.

Lets start with the beer (and you should be coming here for the beer): It's EXCELLENT. A wide variety and a seasonal rotation of a number of beers means you'll find something for everyone. This is some of the best beer I've had in the greater DC area, including some great dark brews (porters/stouts) and some killer double IPAs. The food is OK now. We've been going to the one in Arundel Mills for a number of years, but the menu had significantly decreased during our last visit (it's down to a single large page, printed and disposed of each night, so it may be a temporary thing). The duck fat fries were fantastic according to my friends, and the Arizona Burger was a nice accompaniment to my beer. The chips are super fresh as well. We miss the mozzarella moons, though! Place was super empty when we went, but that was on a Monday night. Very quiet, too.

Beers OK, service fabulous, atmosphere just fine, but food bland as can be (not a grain of salt or pepper touched the likes of ANYTHING we ordered -- not even on a dish that was supposed to be BLACKENED!), and fairly expensive, even had the food been good, which it was not. Good enough for kicking back a brew while watching the game (if you can get them to show it), but not worth it for any food more complicated than a French fry.

Sparsely populated and sparsely decorated restaurant. Nothing fancy in terms of the environment. Ideal location in the Bowie Town Center. Service is not bad and prices are decent. Menu has a lot of interesting options. Food is just ok, nothing spectacular. They do try to season their food, which is generally a good thing however they can be a little heavy handed. You can definitely do better than this place however making it a once in awhile stop, it can be ok.

I saw some of the other reviews on here and was a little skeptical, but since there aren't that many places to choose from in Bowie for a decent happy hour I thought I'd take a chance. I stopped in this past Friday for happy hour, got there about 3:45. Parking can be a little tricky, as they're at the Bowie Town Center, but there is a lot on the back side of the building where I was able to find a decent spot. If I'd been there about 30 minutes later, that may not have been the case. When I came in, there was nobody at the hostess stand, and it looked like the dining area was blocked off, so I went into the bar area and selected a booth for myself and my boyfriend who was meeting me there. My server, Geneva, came by pretty quickly with an ice water and menu, but never came back to get my drink order until my date arrived, which was about 15 minutes. But when she did make her way back, she was very friendly and made some good recommendations for which beers to try. We also got a couple of the happy hour food specials...he wanted buffalo chicken tenders and I got the bruschetta. The tenders were just OK, but the bruschetta was very tasty....5 sliced of toasted baguette piled high with the tomato mix and drizzled with balsamic...yummy! My only complaint is that the bread got kind of soggy, so I had to actually use a knife and fork to keep from dropping it all over myself, but the flavor was still good. It did take her a while to get back to us for more drinks and when it was time for the check, which is the only reason I didn't give 4 stars. Also, the tables are kind of cramped, so if you like elbow room this may not be the place for you. But if you don't mind getting to know your neighbors, this will work out just fine!

I'm not sure... I had the sloppy joe and my wife had the American Cheese Stuffed Burger. The sloppy joe was great and probably the best we'd ever had. The burger was a different story. The burger had a strange taste to it. It seemed oddly firm. It also didn't seem like ground meat (which we were expecting). It was firm like we said, but tasted off. Maybe they use something other than ground beef. The Chocolate Peanut Butter porter was okay but tasted like a fake chocolate flavor. The Euphoria (toffee nut brown ale) was very good.

Went on Friday with my mom to take advantage of the happy hour specials. Well, the prices weren't very good. A drink being $1 less than it's normal price doesn't really scream "special." Also, the portions are small, whether you order a HH appetizer or an actual entree. The shrimp appetizer was $9 and only came with 4 shrimp. I was actually shocked at the plate in front of me. Our waitress was nice but not very attentive bevcause she had a table in the upstairs deck outside. The pplace was packed but it seemed that very few people were actually working. My mom ordered a beer and found a long blonde hair on the glass. In general, this place doesn't seem to have sanititization as their #1 priority. Regardless of how good your food & drink is or what the prices are, your silverware, dishes and general establishment should be clean. I was not overly impressed with the dishes we ordered, the prices or the environment in general.
