Brisket was really good. Potato salad was a bit heavy on the mayo but it was tasty. Chicken portion was modest but high quality, recommend getting the double portion if you are sharing/starving. Green beans were really good. Homemade BBQ sauce was amazing. Corn bread was addicting. Please try this place out! Support local businesses!

I was checking coupons in the Valpack and saw an ad for Chuck's Wagon. After reading the reviews on Yelp, which were mixed, I decided to try it out. I ordered the rib dinner which included 4 bones plus macaroni and cheese and greens. The lady at the counter was pleasant and my food arrived within 10 minutes. The ribs were on the small side, but were surprisingly lean. The dry rub had a sweet taste to it, and they could have been eaten with or without sauce. I opted to dip the pieces in sauce. The macaroni and cheese tasted homemade and the greens were seasoned to my liking. All in all, it was okay meal, but nothing beats the ribs from Slab-O-Ribs in Indian Head.

Brisket was decent , but I feel like my sandwich was a bit on the skimpy side for $10. I wish the brisket was more moist and tender. It definitely needed the BBQ sauce to make it pop. If the sauce wasn't there, I don't know if the sandwich could really hold its own because the flavor was lacking.

Not super impressed. Brisket was DRY, beans were doctored beans out of a can. Cornbread was decent. Im assuming it was a catering set up/food truck switching to brick and mortar. Just seems like it needs some finessing.

It wasn't a spot I would recommend. I thought the ribs where very mediocre. They dont stand out at all.The taste like diet ribs cause their so bland. It was over priced like it was a famous Daves. They'll be famous for their extremely bland ribs.Oh yeah they didn't even have barbecue sauce on that over priced nonsense.A definit wasted visit.

Chuck has been catering my office lunches for a couple of years now and his food is fresh, of great quality and is hands down the favorite lunch we order. here is why, you can tell it was made with love. We get pork ribs, pulled pork and smoked chicken. the mac and cheese is the best i have ever had. add some of my Glover's pepper sauce and you have a King. greens and been round out our order. Chuck is timely, fair in pricing, personal and cares about his craft. if you read a bad review here 100 other who love just didn't go to Yelp! This service can often be only for the complainers. Love ya food Chuck! Love Glover

I'd tried Chuck's Wagon BBQ when they were on H Street and thought they were pretty decent; WAY better than the old Rib Tip but not nearly as good as DCity Smokehouse. The Bowie location is in the former Freestyle Fish & Chicken in the Bowie Plaza off 197; same interior layout, same carryout setup, same half dozen tables. Like most places that claim to be open at 11am, they open when they feel like it. Rolled in around quarter after, and there was already a couple ordering a handful of platters. The menu is pretty stripped down: barbecued brisket, ribs, chicken, pulled pork/chicken, and fried fish for those folks who buy fish at bbq places. Sides are the usual soul food mix: greens, mac & cheese, stringbeans, etc. Individual sandwiches run around $6. Single meat platters with two sides run $12, two meats $14. Tried the ribs, brisket, and pulled pork sandwiche. The brisket was moist, flavorful, and not swimming in sauce. These guys don't sauce their meat; just a basic rub and you add sauce to your taste, which is a bonus for me. I've lost track of the bbq that tastes like a candied meatsicle because they went overboard on the ketchup. Sliced with the grain, the meat was tender but still had some bite. This is not fall apart tender meat paste, which some folks seem to like. Downside was there was almost no smoke ring or smoke flavor. The pulled pork had a slight vinegar tang and was obviously hand chopped. Good texture, but it was served on a large brioche-style roll that was a little too sweet for me. I prefer mine on either Wonder Bread or potato rolls; the ratio of meat to bread was off. The ribs were the star here. Some decent smoke flavor with a salty/spicy rub and good bite to them. Again, not pulply boiled-soft ribs, but something you could sink your teeth into. Their Texas sauce had a nice level of heat; nothing to burn your face off, but it worked well with the ribs. The Classic sauce skewed sweet, so if you absolutely need to drown your food in sauce, knock yourself out. The greens were mustard greens and had a good tart vinegar sauce enhanced with a bit of sweetness. Good flavor, but not overpowering. Also not cooked down to the level of retirement home paste. Mac & cheese was your standard soul food fare, cooked with a layer of burned cheese on top. Not as good as Levi's mac & cheese, but not as bland as Horace & Dickies. Service was pleasant and pretty snappy, but then the place only had three customers in it. On the flavor scale, I'd say this place isn't as good as DCity Smokehouse, but definitely better than Famous Dave's. The bbq at Smokey Bones is better, but the service is so horrible, I couldn't recommend the place. And the food at KBQ is so inconsistent, I couldn't recommend that either. Chuck's Wagon BBQ is not a bbq destination like Just Jerk, but if you're in Bowie and have a jones for meat, you could probably do a lot worse.

Just stopped in on a whim. The food is fantastic. Very flavorful. See my picture to view the deliciousness! The pulled chicken has just the right amount of sauce. My one year old loved it, along with the sides. The brisket has a bit too much fat for me. I'll stick with just the chicken next time.

Will not be returning. This was the worse BBQ dinner I've had. For $16.00 I was expecting more, however I wouldn't have eaten it all. Everything was dry and the sides tastes old and reheated.

Awful. The roll for the pulled pork sandwich is either stale, was frozen or both. Very small amount of meat and was completely dry. If I hadn't put sauce in a container I couldn't have eaten it. Two large globs of fat and tissue from the pork had to be taken out of the sandwich. I ended up just eating the remaining pork without the roll.

So let me begin by saying I had Chuck's pit beef sandwich on Saturday at the Bowie Wine Festival and it was delicious. It was a pound of meat, moist, and full of flavor. I brought half of my sandwich home with me and my boyfriend had one bite and fell in love and asked if we could go on Sunday. They don't sell the pit beef in the store only catering but i so wish they did. Today I had the rib dinner with mac and cheese and string beans. First it is hard to find places with string beans full of flavor these were def cooked in some good broth, next I hate mac and cheese from establishments around here because its literally only noodles and cheese but Chuck did it the right way baked mac and cheese with the base mixed with cream cheese, cream, and sour cream which adds more flavor. This is the best I have had since moving to the DMV. Hands down it beats Carolinas Kitchen, Eatonville, Levi's and many more. Next the ribs came with no sauce how I like them because a good rib is full of flavor with no sauce they give Johnny Boys a run for their money. This place is awesome, prices are good and Mr. Chuck is a sweetheart. I am a Southern Belle and I approve of this establishment. Will be back again soon. My boyfriend got the beef brisket with mac and fries, the brisket came on a buttered grilled to perfection bun and was very tasty and moist.

The rib dinner was good and I would recommend them for catering if someone asked. I enjoyed the mac n cheese, reminded me of Sunday dinner. The beans are a great flavor as well. My favorite are the rib tips!! I love the sauce and I normally get a good batch. The special comes with fries and it's only $5.99. I don't know if I've tasted the fries. I just like the rib tips that much. I have had the fish dinner once because I needed something fast for the kids as a snack before sports and dinner. It was blah, fried whiting. I didn't expect much but it was fine for a last minute snack.

Did a do over this past Friday night from a previous visit where I wasn't happy. My latest visit, Mr Chuck, and his staff were very accommodating making sure I was completely satisfied.

First time, so we played it safe. One pound of pulled pork, medium potato salad and a medium cole slaw to test. Being Southern BBQ consumers, we thoroughly enjoyed the flavor and lightly spiced meat. BBQ sauce was available but an option with the already flavorful BBQ. Sides were well cooked, mixed and seasoned. We will eat here, probably take out, again!!!

A quick and easy "go to place" that's different. I thought the potato salad and beans were outstanding. The brisket was spot on, however I did add a little sauce. The pulled pork was a little dry but tasted great. I love the idea of spending money on a Mom & Pop instead of big corporate. The staff was more than help full answering questions about the products and catering ordering.

Not impressed at all. I really wanted to like this BBQ spot because it's black owned and I like to support our businesses. However, I have to be able to enjoy the food. Nice location and dining area. I asked the cashier what the 2 meat dinner looked like, "4 ribs and half a chicken", she said. I thought that's good for 17.00 and some change. What I got was 2 ribs and a breast & wing. Also, green beans, potato salad and corn bread. So I'm at home so no asking for the missing ribs and chicken... I would have been ok with it if the meat was good. The ribs were so fatty that I spent more time spitting out fat than enjoying them 2 ribs mind you that really was one rib. The chicken was smoked but not well done. I will need some sauce to eat. Green beans were good, and the corn bread was as well. The potato salad was just ok. Sad to say I won't be back. I visit a spot close to home that has good BBQ. 19.99 gets you 2 sides, half a chicken for real and half a rack of meaty ribs.

I first heard about Chuck's Wagon BBQ on the radio station 96.3 last Friday. It was one of 2 places nominated in the area for a Steve Harvey neighborhood award for best BBQ. I was quite surprised to learn about a BBQ place in Bowie I had never heard of before so I made a mental note to check it out. On Sunday my Mother in law just so happened to ask my husband and I of a good BBQ place because she wanted to get some items catered for a 4th of July BBQ, particularly ribs. I mentioned what I heard on the radio and showed her the info I found on Yelp. So my husband and I decided to go there on Sunday, 5/31/15 to order a few things for ourselves and my Mother in law to try out. On the Yelp website it says "1 free dessert w/any meal purchase". We decided to order a slab of ribs $24, 1 Medium size order of String Beans $5.99, 1 Medium size order of Mac and Cheese $5.99, and 3 Honeybees (corn bread) $1.50. I placed the order and asked about the dessert, showing her the add on Yelp. The cashier said hold on let me as the Owner about this. Another lady came out and said I dont think they will honor it. Then the cashier came back and said you have to order a dinner. Well all of the dinners were considered orders that came with sides for example 1 meat and 2 side dinners which was $11.99 I beleive. So I can get a free dessert, for example Peach Cobbler , the cost $3.99 for a $11.99 dinner but not for placing an order for $38.14? How crazy is that? And keep in mind the add said with ANY MEAL PURCHASE! So I was not happy about that and was confused too, I told the Cashier my thought and she didnt offer to ask again, to see if an exception could be made, nothing! I sat down to wait and realized she did not charge me for the muffins so I got up to inform her and order a small string bean $3.99 and a small mac and cheese $3.99 so my Mother in law can have her own sides. We got in the car and I couldnt wait to try the food. No utensils in the bag. None was available in the restaurant for customers to get either. I told my husband and he said, yeah, the customer in front of us checked her bag and asked and the cashier gave her some. So now you have to ask for utensils for a to go order? There wasnt even an offer from the Cashier. Most BBQ places even give you handi wipes to clean your hands after eating. So on to the food...the ribs were very tough and fatty! Total disappointment. The sauce was good. The String beans were rated as very good by a few folks on Yelp. They were horrible! No flavor, couldn't taste or see any seasoning at all. Straight from the can. The Mac and Cheese wasnt good either. The honeybees were good. Nice and fluffy with bits of corn in it. Needless to say we will not be back again and will definitely not be placing a catering order.

The ribs are so good that you don't even need the sauce (but try their sauce anyway because it is delicious too). The mac and cheese is excellent as well. This is some GOOD food!!
