I noticed this place after dining at Myoung Dong two doors down, and thought it looked interesting, so I stopped by for lunch. Tables and pickup counter, photos on the walls. Curiously, no music. I ordered the jerk pork, $7.95. Very nice tender pork roast, the sauce had the proper kick but lacked the expected complexity. Decent dirty rice and a bit of salad. Good selection of tropical bottled drinks, no fountain. I was disappointed not to see callaloo (a green that is chewier than spinach but softer than turnip greens), and really could have used a Red Stripe. OK detour from the beaten path, but did not bring back memories from MoBay.

I ordered fish strips meal which came with three small strips of fish and a rice and salad. I didn't want rice, so I was given all salad for the same price. I also ordered coco bread and water which totaled to be a little under $15. Which I think was a pricey meal, but I did get seafood and it tasted fresh (not frozen, but I could be wrong lol). There was definitely a lot of taste. The fish had a kick of spice. It was a good portion of food. The coco bread was big and good too. My coworker ordered the jerk chicken and she got about 4 small pieces with rice. She first said it seemed like a small amount of meat but she cleaned her plate up and said that it was a good portion after all-- haha! It was a clean restaurant with some booths and tables. No fountain drinks, it was all bottled drinks in the fridge. The lady that took our order was personable and since we ate there we were given real utensils and real plates (instead of disposable utensils and plates). Will come back and try some other dishes-- like the curry, brown stew, and goat.

Not worth the effort... save your money. I don't normally give 1 star, but i was forced. A little background: As a person with Caribbean roots I'm always open to patronizing a Caribbean restaurant. I also understand that Caribbean food here in the states will never taste like I somehow magically transported to the island just to eat some food. Review: I was greeted skiddishly buy the hostess/cashier; probably a sign that I should've walked out. The menu is concise which to me is a plus as I can figure out what to order fairly quickly. I asked to substitute the rice and peas for a veggie side and was told no. Now just a little bit further down the street at Caribbean Delight II or even at the Jerk Pit that wouldn't be a problem. The food... not pleased at all. Got the so called "jerk wings" (more like stew wings) had no flavor, but the fresh grilled veggies were decent. The curried goat... could use more seasoning and a better curry. Now the salad I got on the side was decent. Summary: If you want an intro into Caribbean food then I would suggest trying here and then making your way down route 1 to advance your pallet. As for the experienced Caribbean foodies... not worth it. I personally have no plans of coming back.

My go-to place for brown stew chicken! I've tried their beef, chicken and veggie patties but my fave, beef! I always call in my order to secure a patty or two since they tend to run out before closing.

Food is subpar, one of the owner name Gus is very rude at times, acting as if I'm obligated to spend my money. I'm not liking the fact that I have to pay $1 for extra gravy....the other female owner is pleasant, they do sell good grapenut ice cream, and are conveniently located. I used go there a lot but ived found much better, more authentic Jamaican foods elsewhere....

I like this place. My sweetheart would bring home carry-out dinner a few times from this place, and that is how I got hooked. I always get the white meat jerked chicken dinner, which NEVER disappoints! Perfectly seasoned chicken that is not too juicy, nor too dry - PERFECT. The beef patties are good as well. The food is moderately and appropriately priced. The cocoa bread is soft and delicious. You can't go wrong with the jerked wings either. The dinners usually come with rice and beans with salad. Try the jerked cabbage! I usually stop here after work on the way home, when I am in the mood for Jamaican food. The restaurant itself is in a strip that is very unassuming. You'd probably want to carry-out than sit in. The service is okay - the lady who takes the orders is indifferent, but cordial. On one visit I did order dinner and take home a pint of raisin rum ice cream for dessert. I was put off by the ice cream because, even though it was sealed, the top of the carton appeared to have mice droppings on it. I didn't notice until I got home, and the restaurant itself seems spotless and clean. The ice cream is kept in a ground freezer, so the owners need to monitor. I didn't make a big production of it, and I never alerted the owners, but I do think of it from time to time. That being said, I think the food is fine, and I don't mind patronizing the place from time to time..

Cool place. Had the curry chicken and rice w/coco bread. The flavor in the curry is really good and goes great in the rice. Coco bread baked fresh everyday. The owner is also really nice. A solid Caribbean spot

I will drive out of my way to come here when I just GOTTA have some Caribbean food and the craving is just killing me. There are only 4 places between Md, DC and Va I will order Caribbean food from, and Dunns River is my spot! The jerk chicken, the curry chicken and the plantains are fantastic. And I absolutely love the fact that I can order Escoveitch fish as an appetizer. The sauce is delicious and I always order 2. It's THAT good. I can't say I've tried it as entree because the appetizer is just right for me. :-) The patties and coco bread are on point. The lady (co-owner) who takes the orders is always friendly. Don't forget to grab a bottle of Ting on your way out! The food here is so good, my friends & fam in Va ask me to pick some up for them. But when it comes to oxtail, although there's is good, Irie Cafe in Largo has all of the other Jamaican restaurants on that dish, hands down.

Eating Jamaican food wasn't the plan initially when I was out with my date. We planned for a sports bar (something casual). Well when we arrived at the bar, it was too crowded and we were starving. He asked me if I was into Jamaican food and I said yes and we ended up @ Dunn's River! This was my kind of place (hole in the wall), and I mean that in the best possible way. Where the place isn't standing out but the food is delicious. When we walked in there were a few people in the booths, but the traffic came from the takeout orders. It was very clean and the lady at the counter was very friendly! So I was happy about that. I ordered the chicken curry with red beans and rice, and my date ordered the oxtails with gravy over white rice. It was fantastic. My chicken was tender, juicy, and flavorful. It was white meat too! I also stuck my fork in my date's plate and the oxtail was to die for. I'm ordering that next. I will be back here taking my orders to go. I can see this being one of my weekly dinner meals!

Not happy after my experience and trip to Dunns River Caribbean Cafe. I was craving Caribbean food and when I got there, they were almost out of patties. It was about 8pm when I arrived. Instead, I got a vegetable roti. Lady at counter was semi friendly, and the place looked clean. She came back after a few minutes with a very small wrapped up piece of foil. I guess I'm spoiled and used to roti coming in larger portions. Anyway, the roti skin was pretty unevenly cooked- charred in some places and very doughy on other spots. It lacked that delicious flakiness that I'm accustomed toi. It was more like a flattened dumpling. The filling was ridiculously spicy and tasted somewhat like the refrigerator- you know, when food has been in there too long or a container in the fridge is partially opened and the food takes on that fridge-like taste. Yeah not happy about that at all! Maybe the other food is good, but after this one experience, I don't plan to return.

This is my go to place! I always get the roti with an extra roti "skin" for breaskfast the next morning lol... I have tried almost everything there and its amazing! Very clean!

Food was bland. Oxtail was 15.00 which is too much money for a carton of bones. I will try Golden Crust next time.
