My boyfriend and I came to Tsunami's for dinner on a Saturday night. We had reservations and were seated within a several minutes. Its a really hip and trendy place. Similar to Lemongrass and Metropolitan. The atmosphere wasn't that bad. The place is really relaxed with no real dress code for waiters or waitresses. The lighting, however, was terrible. It was so dark in there. But its also mostly a bar so I guess that makes sense. The food was... ehhh. It wasn't exactly memorable or super satisfying. We ordered the deluxe spring rolls, a maui roll, and a scotia roll. My boyfriend ordered the Emperor Massa's Grilled Chicken and I ordered the Wok Seared Sea Scallops for our entrees. The deluxe spring rolls were not delicious. They used a different tempura batter which was different from any other tempura I've ever had. It was really crunchy but it was a weird texture and it was just not enjoyable. I've had better spring rolls.. and I'm not sure why they call it the deluxe Vietnamese spring roll because.. It is nothing like a Vietnamese spring roll.... The sushi was pretty subpar. They used soy wrapper instead of seaweed and I didn't mind that. The problem was that the sushi rolls were so tiny and there were tiny pieces of fish. The fish to rice ratio was completely off and at $8 a roll, I expected much more. I would not come back to Tsunami for the sushi.. The entrees were pretty decent. I tried some of my boyfriend's entree and the noodles were nice and soft and it had pretty good flavor. My entree was also just okay. The scallops were seared nicely. I love scallops. They are my favorite! The asparagus was also cooked well. The crab corn salsa was... not very good. It was so salty. They put a lot of old bay in it and they must have added more salt to it but I just couldn't finish it. Over all.. it was just okay. It was really expensive for the food that was put out.. For $75 I could go to another sushi place and be completely satisfied and stuffed.. I might come back for another entree.. but probably not.

My go to spot for late night eating in Annapolis. I stick to sushi here. Re-iterating what other locals have said, is not as good as Joss, but it's better than Nano. Their tofu and edamame are good too. Havent had good luck with salads, or entrées. They are too pricy and too experimental. The strange descriptions never exceed my expectations. They taste as strange as they sound. Decent selection of craft beer, really good cocktails. Friendly staff. Service is pretty good. Make a reservation during regular business hours. Outdoor seating available based on weather, service till 11pm, kitchen makes sushi till 2am. Music is LOUD. Atmosphere is pretty trendy.

We went to Tsunami after an area wine bar and after seeing a play. When we arrived it was almost 11pm and we were pleasantly surprised to find that they served sushi until 1am. Sushi was good and fresh. Drinks were unbelievable. The rest of the menu was a nice variety of different items. Tsunami was very busy and the music was playing, but not too loud to have a conversation over it. If you like Tsunami, then try Lemongrass since they're owned by the same people.

As far as atmosphere and service, it was pleasant. It's a dark, trendy atmosphere and Annapolis doesn't have much of that. The server was polite and attentive, especially given that it was a busy Friday night when I visited. Unfortunately, the food in general was mediocre at best and the sushi in particular was the worst I've ever had. The rice was clumpy and undercooked. I tasted some crunchy kernels here and there. The tamago nigiri had two oversized, dense, overly sweet, not fresh-tasting slabs of egg balanced on clumps of undercooked rice seasoned with chili powder. The spicy tuna tasted like it had been prepared hours earlier, had refrigerator hardness around the edges and was sprinkled with something crunchy and stale. The fish didn't have that fatty, clean, melt in your mouth flavor that fresh sushi has. The Miami roll was just unacceptable - the taste of rice was overpowering and the roll was covered in generic hot sauce. The spring rolls tasted ok around the edges but in the middle was something thick and unappealing. If you've ever had a fresh, delicious spring roll, Tsunami's will be unacceptable to you. The tofu appetizer was served covered in bland dried fish flakes that swayed and writhed from the tofu's heat like a bunch of worms. It's an interesting effect, but it's also an unnecessary food gimmick that a better restaurant wouldn't need. The seasoning on all the food, and in one of my companions' drink, tasted raw and overpowering. Someone is using a heavy hand with dried seasonings. Later on that night I was sick. It was a mild food poisoning episode, i.e., a few hours of misery, not a full night. I know there's no way to definitively blame Tsunami's food. But I have my suspicions based on how things looked and tasted that something was either old or not prepared correctly. This might be an ok place to have a beer and to dance or hang out, but I wouldn't recommend eating anything that comes out of the kitchen.

It was really great. Great food and service. The atmosphere was NYC sophisticated.

Great crowd, hip and fun. Sushi is good (and I just moved here from California). There's a chick that works here that looks just like Selma Blair, that's always a good thing. Finnish Mule cocktail is dangerous (in a good way).

I'd have to say I am definitely impressed with this spot. Very cool vibe. Good drinks. Good sushi. I'm a picky person and this place quenched my taste buds and need for a cool environment.

Reasonable prices, tasty sushi and good service all made dining at Tsunami as out of town guests excellent! The vegetarians in our group appreciated the decent sized selection of vegetarian rolls (which were very tasty as well)! Since it's a college town, we got carded, which was kind of amusing!

I am very picky about my Sushi... I used to live on the West Coast and have visited Japan and have never found anything on the East Coast that compares... Tsunami is the closest thing that I have found. The fish is fresh and the service is great... the only problem is that it is hard to get a table on weekends...

I stopped by during lunch hours with a few colleagues. There were about a dozen folks having lunch or waiting to be served. We waited 30 minutes after we ordered a few simple meals - sushi a-la-cart, chicken sandwich marinate with hoisin sauce, Thai seafood rice and a salad. My friends and I discussed afterward and we all decided that the meals were just ok. Sushi wasn't as fresh as others. Sandwich was a little hard. The seafood was a little bland but the salad was fresh. Maybe it was a bad day for the restaurant... you be the judge! For us, 2 stars.

We tried Tsunami for the first time this previous weekend. I actually had Joss in mind since that was where I had my first sushi experience earlier this year. We decided to try Tsunami for a couple of reasons. It is near the bar our friends wanted to check out. The other is that a woman recommended Tsunami after overhearing us discussing where we could go. Our friends decided to join us and have drinks while we ate. My girlfriend pointed out that they have a Jalapeño Margarita on the cocktail menu. I just had to try it and was completely surprised with how good it tasted. We initially ordered 5 rolls covering a various fish and veggie ingredients. These were so delicious that we decided to go for 2 more. Our friends went to the next destination while we pigged out on our remaining sushi. The atmosphere is definitely more trendy than I typically would like for sushi dining. We were there in the late evening so there was loud house music and a crowded bar.

I like this place, but honestly, the sushi was not very impressive. Do not get me wrong, it was good, but is was not anything out of the ordinary. The spicy tuna roll reminds me of the same quality that I have revived at my local Chinese buffet. The seaweed salad and edemame were pretty delicious, however.

It's dark, trendy, and the music is almost too loud. Their menu has lots of range. Their sushi rolls come out on one communal plate that makes sharing effortless. Most of the rolls were quite good, but I was disappointed by how bland the spicy tuna was. The miso soup was fairly good, if a bit watered down. The pork pot-stickers were fried just right and came with a wonderful sweet and sour sauce that had just a hint of banana to it. Our waiter was attentive though interaction was limited by the music.

I have to reiterate the fact that the service at Tsunami has been the best I've found anywhere in Annapolis. It's been spot on every time I've been here. On top of that, the food is very fresh, the cocktails are great, and I haven't had a bad meal or a bad experience since I started going. And that's saying something, as there are few places that I've enjoyed time and time again without some inconsistency. This place is just really consistent and really good. I highly recommend it.

Went for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. Service was terrific, the atmosphere was quiet and comfortable. The food was simply ok; nothing outstanding. The avocado salad had a quarter of ripe avocado drizzled with dressing, but the carrots were long strands that needed to be cut: no knives. The sushi was again good, but not incredible. I'd definitely eat here again though.

Tsunami was perfectly acceptable, but that will be the highest compliment I give it. It was dark, sleek, and trendy at first glance. Plenty of young patrons and lots of blue lights. The music was modern and a little too loud. The waiter was helpful, but not friendly. He seemed distracted but carried out his business promptly. The food was...fine. But as I said before, that's the highest I'll give it. I hate to do this to a local business, but if you're in Annapolis for sushi, you have no excuse to go anywhere but Nano on Main Street. Overall it was an acceptable experience, but I doubt I'll be joining them for a meal again.

My group and I stopped in here this past Saturday night after coming from Stan & Joe's down the street. We needed a quieter place to just relax, talk, and have a drink. I really liked the atmosphere, very trendy and sophisticated. The mood was mellow, and the service was excellent! I didn't get to try the sushi but will definitely make a trip back to do so! Overall it was a great place to have a drink with friends. I will be back!

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Annapolis. I've tried all the sushi restaurants in Annapolis and this is the best sushi you will find (I don't understand why people rave about Joss Sushi on Main St.). Tsunami always has fresh fish and the menu for different roles are creative and fun. The rolls are always tight and crisp (unlike other places that serve sloppy mushy rolls. -- hello Joss). Other favs besides sushi: spicy edamame and sautéed spinach with mushrooms, garlic and bacon lardons (winter dish). Bees Knees is a favorite cocktail of mine. The regular menu also has fantastic food -- for those who don't eat sushi. Love this place!

Foodsnob D's review bothers me. For one thing, it's racist. It's like he's saying Japanese people pop out of their mothers womb weilding samurai swords and uncanny love for karaoke and anime. The best sushi I've had in San Francisco was made fresh by an old Japanese man. The second best sushi I've had came from a man named Pedro. If you're skilled with a knife and know your fish, chances are, you too can make sushi. The other truly major flaw in his review is his claim that the sushi made him sick. If you look at Yelp San Francisco's list of "Yelp Cliches" this one is a real clincher. Unless this guy spent the last 3 days in a quarantined room before going to this restaurant, he can't actually claim that the food he had at Tsunami made him sick. Read these Food Illness Myths Debunked by the NSW Food Authority: foodauthority.nsw.gov.au… . Now that I've vented, I actually think Tsunami is a decent place to grab a good roll or two and sip a cocktail. Try the "Blood and Bubbles" blood orange cocktail. The taste is almost as weird and fun as the name, I promise. The crowd that assembles here on a Saturday night varies but the horseshoe layout lends itself well to flirting with the guy or girl at the other end of the bar and the bartenders are generally pretty charming. This place welcomes all and I don't see any reason why any halfway fun person wouldn't have a good time and a great meal here.

in Annapolis, Tsunami is my favourite sushi place. The space is so much more comfortable than Joss, and the food is just as enjoyable. Okay, maybe the fish is slightly better at Joss, but to eat without an elbow in my eye is something I'm willing to compromise for.

Had a sushi dinner there last night. It wasn't very good. The rolls were almost all rice, which had very little taste, and the "filling" portion (fish, avocado, etc) was so small it was almost non-existent. Had some sashimi too, it was sliced so thin that candle light clearly shone through it. The staff had the lights turned down so low that the occupants at every table had to use the table's candle to read the menus. I've eaten there several times, and sushi has never been their specialty, but last night was lack-luster enough that I doubt I'll go back.

This place used to have the best sushi in town, still occasionally does (what can I say I am picky). As for the staff and service, it is out of this world! Their drinks are well thought out and brilliantly executed.

I loooooove this place! The service is always great and (minus Saturday nights) I pretty much am always seated right away. The only con is that the cocktails are pretty expensive I'm pretty sure the one I got last time was like 12 dollars, but oh well it was pretty & it's downtown annapolis lol. If you really like sushi I highly recommend the New York roll. It's smoked salmon, cream cheese & shrimp tempura...sooooo good.

I've been going to Tsunami since it first opened and it has gotten better every year, now one of my favorite places to eat both for lunch and dinner. The sushi selection is not daunting - it has your basic hosomaki rolls and good combo sumo rolls. Get a few of these along with my favorite, the Tom Tom Salad with seared tuna and it's just perfect for a light but refreshing midday meal. For dinner, I can't stay away from the Ahi Tuna "Lollipops" and the Coconut Curry Soup. It's a great start for the deep fried snapper - not sure what fish it was exactly but it was darn good! - and forget the wine, just have it with the Tsumo Jito cocktail!

Gluten free options are clearly marked. Sushi rolls are AVERAGE and on the small side. Ambience is good. Fun night ok food. Nothings is more disappointing than spending over $50 for two meals to leave disappointed.

Good sushi. I usually make sure to get spicy tuna, and the one with the Old Bay seasoning. A nice selection of other entrees to choose from as well. The place is pretty lively at night, with the bar not crowded, but not empty, and the clientele are those from mid-20s to mid-30s who will more than likely tuck in their shirts. Down the street is Stan and Joes, Sly Fox, and Ram's Head if you'd like to go drinking after dinner.

Went here for resturant week two yrs ago, the service is GREAT! but the food is kinda lacking thus the two stars. Atmosphere is okay, the tables are very close together and the sushi is so so.

Holy huge bowl of miso soup! I went here after a day of fun in DC and feeling some sushi. I entered the restaurant starving and parched and got greeted by a large glass of water and the biggest bowl of miso that I have ever gotten ordering out. And it was good! Good miso taste, lots of tofu, lots of seaweed, and even some sesame seeds. Next I tried the goat cheese and spinach dumplings and I was disappointed. The taste was only eh and they were very gummy. Not the highlight of the meal. My friend got the wedge salad and there was a good amount of avocado on the plate, surprisingly enough. Next we shared the spicy tuna roll, the maui roll, and the kamikazi roll. I was pleased with all three. They used whole chunks of tuna (not the tuna mush that I've been receiving from many sushi places of late sadly) and had good taste. They were all a little on the spicy side so I made it through a LOT of water. I liked the maui roll - had a bit of the hawaiian pizza things going on with the pineapple. I'd go back.

Never go to this place to eat! The service is bad and also the blonde waitress. The prices are insane! I ordered fried rice and asked her if I can get chicken fried rice, she said yes and never mentioned the price, which is the norm of any restaurant you go to. They charged extra for the chicken which was priced more than the actual fried rice, how ironic! Never going back there, BAD FOOD + BAD SERVICE+ BAD PRICE!!!! Au revoir! Too add to this, I even have food poisoning!!! o god!

We go here all of the time, I love this place. The food is consistently good, the service is great, and the atmosphere is fun and lively.I've ordered dinner here a few times, and sushi a lot. I'll go here and just sit and drink at the bar too. It's not often you find a packed bar with good food. The food is always fresh and they have a decent wine selection too! Give this place a try, I promise, it will become one of your go-to's.

We went here partly for the sushi and partly for the ambiance. We had brought dress clothes for the evening and thought we would stand out if we went to the higher rated but less elegant sushi restaurants in the area. The cocktails were very good...I sent one back due to the overpowering spice but they fixed it for me with no problem. The sushi was pretty good. The maui roll sounded delicious with the tuna and pineapple but it was pretty boring. The metropolitan was pretty good though. The star was the Coconut curry soup...so delicious! My husband really loved his Bison Short ribs. He substituted the fries for the brussel sprouts and they were perfectly crispy and the chili aioli was delicious. The prices are pretty on-par with the other sushi restaurants in the area so we enjoyed the atmosphere and food very much!

This is my favorite place in Annapolis so far. I've had the sushi, the Scallop entree and the Seafood Jambalaya. All outstanding. You have to try the Jalepeno Margarita, it's the best cocktail I've ever had. The atmosphere is buzzing, the staff alternative. The service on a busy Saturday night was left to be desired, but we weren't in a rush, we just got bored waiting for our waitress/drinks. But, we tip accordingly.

Amidst all the over-priced restaurants in downtown Annapolis, Tsunami is a wonderful exception. My husband works in the area, and this is probably his and his co-workers most frequented restaurant. I haven't been here for dinner, so can't comment on that experience, but they have a great lunch menu. We usually get either the Sushi Deluxe set ($10 for 4 nigiri, seaweed salad, California roll) or the Bento Box ($9 for salad, California roll, rice, teriyaki shrimp/chicken/tofu). We've also tried the crabcake ($14 for single cake), which is tasty and comes with their yummy wasabi aioli sauce. Each of these comes with a miso soup as well. They also have a decent, reasonably-priced a la carte sushi menu. The decor is trendy, but not too upscale. The wait staff is friendly. If you go for lunch, the atmosphere is very casual.

This is by far the WORST sushi bar I've been to in the area (and I've tried every single one of them). As a bar it's actually pretty decent with a cool atmosphere, an unusual selection of import bottled beer, and some very unique home rolled mixed drinks. I made the mistake of getting some sushi here years ago and it was the first time I actually got sick from sushi. Just looking at the sushi chefs (NOT japanese folks) should have been warning enough for me. I like the place for a hangout every now and again but they should seriously consider not serving food at all. Anyone recommending this place hasn't done their homework in my not so humble opinion.

Just moved to Naptown and getting increasingly depressed about dining options. Their sushi was barely edible, I've had better supermarket sushi. Cocktails sound interesting on the menu but are poorly executed. Weird atmosphere - trying to be newyorky and trendy but ends up just kind of loud with a cold feeling. Not sure how these guys got lemongrass so right and this place so wrong.

The avocado salad was delicious, but the sushi was so so. But the sushi did taste fresh, especially the sea urchin. The service could improve a little...I don't think we had a real waitress. I think our waitress was the hostess. I am not sure if you needed to have a reservation to dine with a real waitress since that was the first question that was asked as soon as I walked in. We were also seated in the back corner and our "hostess" was not as sttentive since she was doing two jobs and when we asked the waiter if he could be of assistance he seemed faked about wanting to help us. He was too busy flirting for tips with the table of 15 girls that was seated next to us. The tables were also positioned very close together.

I've tried the maki and the crab cakes here, and both were pretty super. The fish was melt-in-your mouth fresh and the other ingredients were high-quality too. The crab cakes definitely could hold their own in Annapolis, though they weren't completely traditional. They have a little bite to them. The atmosphere is slightly trendy but comfortable.

This is only my second time at Tsunami and I can say that nothing has really changed much. The sushi is just okay in my opinion. Now mind you I am not a full fledge sushi eater as I only eat the sushi that is already cooked. I ordered the white sangria as my drink and it was delicious and infused with apple and cucumber. I also enjoyed the old bay edamame as an app to share as well. I still gave 4 stars as the service and atmosphere were superb!

The shrimp & scallop pot stickers are where it's at. They give you a good amount and they're super yummy. The sushi was just okay. Kind of dry, nothing special. The Kovu blueberry drink was delicious!

I previously wrote a five star review for tsunami, but am being forced to change it. Tsunami used to be the best sushi place in Annapolis, but has lost that title. In April, they re made their menu, and removed the only item that I used to go there to eat; the popcorn shrimp. Their popcorn shrimp was the only reason that I would recommend anybody go to tsunami over any other sushi place. Also, their music is consistently too loud, no matter what time of the evening you visit. If they would bring back the popcorn shrimp and turn the music down, they would return to the title of best sushi in Annapolis. Until then, I will be taking my business elsewhere.

In Annapolis, I was meeting a friend for dinner. Because I don't know the area very well, the restaurant picking was entirely up to her. She was craving Sriracha Mac 'n Cheese and suggested heading over to Tsunami which is a sushi spot that also has plenty of fun American dishes on the menu. When we sat down, we knew already we were ordering the Sriracha Mac 'n Cheese and let me say, this lived up to the hype. It was insanely creamy with a slow heat that did not overwhelm at all. Even if you're not a lover of all things Sriracha and spicy, this dish won't overpower your taste buds. We decided on sharing a few small plates and also went with the Fries. The fries came with a smoked chili aioli. The fries were delicious, but the smoked chili aioli was delicious. The sauce was spicy and the perfect thing to dip the fries into. We also shared an order of Brussel Sprouts. They were topped with thick cut bacon and crisped nicely. Like everything else we ordered, these were also delicious. While the three items we ordered may not compliment each other perfectly, they were all delicious. Next time I'm there I hope to try some of their awesome looking sushi options too.

Remember Cheers (where everybody knows your name)? That's the atmosphere that is fostered at Tsunami. Honestly, the sushi isn't great. I couldn't even bring myself to order more than one roll, which is a rarity for me. However, Matt and John at the bar are incredibly welcoming and friendly. They make you want to be a regular. We came for happy hour (killer deals), and I got the Gingercuke Collins (ginger cucumber Tom Collins). It was perfect for a hot day. I'd definitely recommend sitting at the bar when you come.

Sad that I didn't get to try any of the food here--would love to come back! We came here after dinner and found a spot at the bar. The inside definitely has a modern asian-fusion feel. It was pretty dark, but I really liked the atmosphere. I ordered the blueberry drink (forget the name), and it was so yummy! Fruit drinks always worry me because they can go the medicine-tasting route, but this definitely tasted like fresh blueberries. It was just sweet enough, and the taste wasn't overpowering. A+. I'd definitely recommend this place to people looking for a classy bar experience!

Sunday 1/2 off Sushi with a group is a great deal. Rolls vary from ok to great, but they're such a great price you can't be mad at the O.K. ones.

The edamame, miso soup and salad appetizers were good. Sushi was ok as well. I especially liked the Metropolitan roll but I think there's plenty of room for improvement. Their prices are comparable for the area and portion size. I still like the sushi and overall experience at Nano and Joss better but Tsunami is a good alternative if you can't get into the other two or want to try something new. Tsunami is more of a hipster type Asian fusion place to me but they have good specialty sushi and a very good steak according to my buddy who had the sirloin.

I've been to Tsunami quite a few times and I honestly enjoy it each time. Most recently we went with several friends and we all split the fries, which are really delicious and have an amazing dipping sauce, as well as the sriracha mac and cheese, which was honestly perfection. My rolls, the California with real crab and the eel and cucumber were really amazing. Tsunami is always super busy, but we got seated pretty quickly and our server wasn't bad. All in all a really good meal.

Upon entering you are hit with a dim, hip, and romantic atmosphere. Oooohhhh they can make a top notch martini! The sushi was good and the wings. However, the pot stickers were soggy. The service was good however, we had to track down our waiter a couple times. Though this was a cool little cozy joint the food didn't really knock my socks off for the touristy pricing.

If you don't tend to enjoy spending time around a bunch of young hipsters that think they are far cooler than you, you probably should stick to coming here on the weekdays. On the weekends the lights are too low, the music is too loud and the scene is far cooler than I can handle. That being said, I love Tsunami. The bartenders and the waitstaff are all charming and accommodating. Ive been here for happy hour, dinners with friends, dates and birthday parties and I've never had a bad meal or experience. The sushi does seem to vary in portion size a bit depending on what day of the week you are there, but it's never been disappointingly small. Their other fusion food is quite good as well. I highly recommend the spicy popcorn shrimp and the Sriracha Mac and Cheese. Then their cocktails. I don't think any other bar in the Downtown area gives you quite the bang for your buck. They are complex, they are creative and they are strong. :)

We've dined here since it first opened, but it's slowly fallen off in quality over the years. There is certainly nothing objectionable, but it seems they might just have gotten a little lazy over time. The sushi is good, but not great. They don't carry the number of liquors they used to, and the wine list is weak (with some inaccurate descriptions as well). The bartender was a bit inexperienced and sloppy the last time we visited. Still, it's situated in a very good spot on West St. and there is enough going on around, that it will always be a good place to duck into for a quick cocktail and sushi before heading out for dinner or a show.

OMG YUM: The blackened shrimp bibb tacos (bibb lettuce replaces the tortilla shell)! I visited with my parents, who had the fish and chips and the kapow curry chicken-- all delicious! The atmosphere is hipster, with loud jazz music, fun vibe. I was there with my parents, who usually aren't comfortable with loud, trendy places, so I was a bit nervous, but everyone was happy after the first bite! Service was excellent as well.

I wouldn't even give a star. Came here one night. My brother got food poisoning from the salmon roll. I left a voicemail to let them know. They didn't even have the Curtesy to call me back and apologize. He was throwing up and severely sick for 4 days. Shame on you. I left a voicemail with all of my information. Never going back there again.

Tonight I stuck with my usual. The Annapolitan roll and the Spider Roll. I also tried the Spinach salad. The food was very good as usual. Everything, including the drinks came to the table very quickly. At one point it became very loud in the place and i could not hear what the person sitting in front of me was saying. Overall it was a good experience.

Came here with co-workers during a business trip. The sushi was good. Off the recommendation of other yelp reviews I ordered the Ahi Lollipops and the Metropolitan roll as well as some other items. The lollipops were good, but nothing that exciting. Basically a big cube of ahi with some type of spicy oil on it. Nice and healthy and tasty, but not as exciting as some of the other reviews make them out to be. If you like tuna and are trying to go easy on the rice it's a good thing to order. The metropolitan roll was very good. Tempura shrimp in a roll is always a good idea! I would definitely order this again. My one complaint is that this small restaurant really packs you on top of each other. Our party of three was sitting right next to a larger party with only a few inches in between. It was also really really loud. I felt like I was eating dinner in a club. It was pretty impossible to carry on much of a conversation. It was a Friday night, but this was excessively loud and cramped. I would come back here again, but only on a slow night. While the food was good, it wasn't worth being in such a loud environment where you can't hear the people sitting across from you.

This is not the first time I've been to this little gem in Annapolis, but last night a sizable group of us from my office came for munchies, drinks, and dinner. The food was delicious -- ahi tuna lollipops, sushi, filet mignon cooked to perfection. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming or accommodating and our waiter rocked. We saw a variety of patrons on this snowy night, all ages and types.

Excellent food and service. Josh is great at the bar and makes super good cocktails. Love the garden and spider rolls and the avocado salad. Edamame is always fresh and the miso soup is good and a huge portion. The ambiance is fun and good for dates or dinners with bigger groups and they have good nightly drink specials. All the servers I have had have been great! They have garlic, regular or old bay edamame all of which are excellent.

Service was great. We had a party of six and the server was very attentive the whole meal. We had the popcorn shrimp (great - similar to Bang Bang shrimp), sriracha mac and cheese (not too spicy, very tasty), and kobi sliders (amazing). Very generous portions. Dinner was spinach salad with medium rare tuna (excellent), chicken and waffles (very flavorful with two sauces to choose with it), bison short ribs (really good with the Mac and cheese and bacon Brussels sprouts), chili blackened steak (flavorful with fries and mixed vegetables), and various sushi (excellent). All portions were very generous and we got a free dessert for a birthday in our party. Good beer and drink selection as well.

Went there for dinner with the hubby using a Livingsocial coupon. The entire time we were eating the sushi, we commented on how bad the rice was. I don't know how they cooked it but it definitely lacked water or was a few day-old rice because it was so hard we could barely chew it. The sea urchin nigiri didn't taste fresh either. The avocado salad with sweet miso dressing was overly sweet that it tasted like syrup. The only saving grace was the chef's sashimi 9 piece. The salmon was very fresh and melted in our mouths. The vibe of the restaurant was pretty cool though. A good place for a date night or dinner with friends. Too bad the food is not that great.

Clever appetizers brought down by disregard for the heart of the sushi. The rice was hard and dry, as if undercooked or old. You cannot make sushi without rice. I repeat, rice is the foundation of sushi and should be prepared with care. Old bay smothered the flavor of scallops and badly needed to be scraped off. Unagi rubbery - overcooked. The beef tataki was good; one of those clever, delicious appetizers.

Tsunami makes my favorite sushi in Annapolis. I have been to every sushi place in Annapolis, and while there are others that are rated higher online, I find that the quality of service or food at those places has suffered at those places as a result of the influx of clientele. Tsunami has more than sushi, of course. Their bar makes fantastic cocktails and they always have a great selection of craft brews. The bartenders are friendly. I have never had any of their specialty dishes on the menu, but I have heard from friends that what they've had has been excellent. My only real complaint with the restaurant is that the location is small and loud. Between the crowds that will gather and the music playing, Tsunami isn't the most intimate place.

As of late I have to say the stars on the menu are those on the cocktail menu! I am a huge bourbon & whiskey fan and enjoyed tasting the new menu. If you are too, I suggest the Lions Heart but you can't co wrong with an Old Fashioned or a classic Manhattan. For food the sushi is delicious, I particularly enjoy their spicy sauce that is rich with sesame oil. Another great item is the wok fried rice. Top appetizer I will say is the popcorn shrimp. If your in the mood for a heavier meal I would try one of the entree items like the braised bison short-rib. The atmosphere is chill with great music selections.

This place used to be a bright spot in Annapolis due to a lack of trendy bar scenes in the area. Most nights, including weeknights, usually rocked. The bartenders were always cool and coming up with crazy concoctions that ruled. Food is always interesting with asian blends of varying tastes . Those were the draws for me to suggest this restaurant to dine at with the folks. It's quieted down a lot as an active bar scene but still has a trendy vibe. If you have issues hearing conversation over loud music, this might be a pass. The place is a bit noisy due to loud music (especially after 9 pm). Oh, and bring your smart phone with the flashlight app -- you'll need it to read the menu due to the lack of lighting in the dining areas. Neat to cozy up with someone special but if you are trying to decide on menu items, you really want to be able to read the description. My folks were pleased with their seared tuna and asparagus -- which were cooked exactly right according to my mother, I might add. The sushi rolls were noticeably smaller, actually resembling micro rolls, and fewer to the plate. I ordered an avocado roll for myself because I am a vegan. My mother was to try the crispy shrimp tempura roll. All of the rolls came together on the same plate. I had to pass on eating mine due to cross contamination. When it was politely mentioned to the waitress, Mander, she was less than gracious and snapped that she wasn't told. *Sigh* If she hadn't had an attitude from the moment we sat down, I may have been able to overlook her need to get defensive. I didn't bother to ask for another roll. I quietly made due with eating my avocado salad. The man had the goat cheese salad. He was disturbed by the waitress' behavior so he lost his appetite for anything else, too. The place was not busy with diners so her need to abruptly rush us along was confusing. Had she been more accommodating, we had planned to stay for the main course, dessert and after dinner drinks. But, she made the experience uncomfortable. We stopped at appetizers, paid the $70 bill and left to find another venue to finish out our evening.

Every time I visit Annapolis i make it a point to have dinner at Tsunami. I have never been deposited with there sushi it is the best in the area. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I recommend starting out with the edamame and miso soup. Then I would get the metropolitan roll and mabe the New Yorker. So good! you must check it out.

I had such high hopes for this cute fusion place, but alas, it was not meant to be. We went there to celebrate our wedding anniversary, but the food did not live up to the hype, and certainly not for the prices they charged for it! I ordered the sea bass - it was so overcooked I had to use a knife to cut it!! Awful. My husband ordered the short ribs which were on the whole better, but still not $30-a-plate great. Our waiter was very kind and tried hard to make things right, but he couldn't make up for overall lousy quality of food. Our recommendation - find somewhere else.

It was my first time at this place. I loved everything I ordered. They have a variety of food. I loved their wonton and tuna lollipop for appetizer. It is one of very best nice Shushi place I have been plus it is close to the harbor in Annapolis. Great place to hang out.I would definitely go back.

I'm going to go ahead and give out the 5 star-er! Totally agree regarding the ahi lollipops - these are six huge chunks of ahi in this pleasantly spicy chili oil with flaked sea salt. Amazing. Came out quickly. Wine prices - super cheap by the bottle - a glass will run you $9-10 - a bottle can be $30-40 - it makes sense to just get a bottle and enjoy! What else...sushi is definitely tasty - very well prepared, EXCELLENT salmon...excellent. Edamame was $5.50 and a gigantic bowl...tasty... I feel like everything might be a dollar more expensive than another sushi place, but the portion sizes are quite large - the ahi lollipops were only like, $12.99 - I was expecting two pieces but a large portion. We sat in the window seat during a big thunderstorm - it was loud, warm, high energy in the living room - a very fun night :)

Have been twice and love it. We like sitting at the bar. Sushi and the edamame (spicy) is our favorite. Slightly disappointed in some of the appetizers. Would give it 3 1/2 stars for that reason but because we loved both the service at the bar and the sushi I'll go with 4 stars. We also liked the miso soup. We hear it is packed at night. But since we like eating at off hours it totally works for us.

Well, i only had two drinks there... a Moscow Mule (or their version of it) and a Stark & Dormy (their version of a dark & stormy). They were both good. The bartenders were very friendly and sociable... we got into some 80's movie trivia that eventually got a conversation going across the whole bar which made it an amusing time. The place wasn't that busy, but it was late on a Monday night when I was there.

So came here for the first time for a birthday celebration on this last Monday. First off yes the Ahi Tuna Lollipops, Yum!! In fact all the food was very good. Unfortunately for us this Monday happened to be the last day for expiring groupon/living social deals so the staff was caught a bit off guard. The service was certainly slower than we would have liked, but one of the owners came around to every table personally to apologize and make compensations for the long delays. The server was also very apologetic about the delays. All 5 of us left and were completely satisfied with our choice of restaurants even with the 2+ hour dinner. We had 5 rolls, the manager choice sushi, tuna lollipops, beef tataki, Mushroom Soy Pork Potstickers and everything was very tasty. If you like beer and wine they have a nice selection of them as well. They have an impressive selection of craft beers that I certainly enjoyed. The place is not over fancy, it has a bar/pub feel to it so if you want fancy digs than you might not like the atmosphere. I will certainly be going again and would recommend giving it a try if you have not been.

On our first night back from Paris, we were feeling a little blue, missing the gorgeous cool-sunny weather and the bustling nightlife of the cafes that line every street there. Grudgingly, we dragged ourselves to Annapolis for the evening, only to be pleasantly surprised by the similarities to our most recent vacation spot. We began with drinks and their avocado salad with seared tuna. The fish was meltingly tender and bursting with flavor from the spices that coated it; the avocado and greens were at their peak and arranged artfully on the plate. The miso-ginger dressing was too sweet for me, but it didn't stop me from loving the dish. For an entree, we enjoyed the Dragon Roll, California Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll. All were excellent. The California Roll offered the option of real crab meat, which was a nice nod to the seafood culture of the area; the Spicy Tuna Roll was tuna sprinkled with red pepper, which I prefer to tuna tossed with spicy sauce (often mayonnaise, which I believe does not belong on sushi.) Everything was fresh and flavorful, just the way sushi should be, and the rolls were reasonably priced (about $7 for eight small pieces or four large.) When we had finished, the server offered us the menu again (I wish more sushi places would do this!) but we were basically full. My husband suggested dessert; she described four from memory, and we chose the ginger cake. It was too dry (I suspect it was reheated in the microwave) but the peanut ice cream served alongside was sublime. It was a wonderful finish to a great meal. Our server was fun, but laid-back; she gave us space to enjoy the outdoors but offered suggestions when appropriate. And even the weather cooperated, staying cool and breezy in spite of the late June sunshine. It was a pleasure to sit outdoors and chat while we enjoyed our dinner to the backdrop of a Chesapeake sunset. We could hardly believe we were in Maryland in the summer. What a great welcome-home present!

I love the atmosphere here- trendy, modern. It fills a gap in downtown Annapolis. I also love the food. I've tried a bunch of things but the Chef's Tofu appetizer on the sushi menu is always my favorite. It comes out sizzling hot with bonito flakes on top that literally dance from the heat. The sauce is perfectly sweet without being too sweet- overall a great dish. Then, I usually go for the crab cake or the salmon. So good! I may just have to go back there this weekend!

I was told by many people that there are two great sushi places in Annapolis...Tsunami and Joss. Joss wins hands down on both quality of food and restaurant quality. Here are my thoughts on Tsunami in Annapolis. I was there on a Saturday night in August 2012. Food: The sushi prices are slightly above average but the quality of the sushi is average. It was probably fresh sushi, but it just didn't seem like it. I was fine eating it but I know that I've had a lot better, safe, quality sushi for a much more reasonable price. We also had a soup based dish. The broth was very over salted. The Restaurant: This was the kicker for me. I expected a much cleaner, less tattered place. It seems like the place needs a serious makeover. Some of our dishes were chipped, bowls had visible scrapes and wear on them. The fabric on the seats were stained with what looked like various types of liquids and smeared in food. It was absolutely disgusting. There has to be years of stains on this fabric. Disgusting! There were also 3 flies that were constantly buzzing around us and we spent a good deal of time trying to prevent them from landing on the food. The staff was very nice and professional however.

Tsunami is a top of the line sushi restaurant. They also have a great array of American/Japanese food. You will find an excellent beer selection with good microbrews as well many tasty homemade cocktails. The atmosphere is fantastic and so are the clientele and employees. They do an excellent job of keeping any unwanted annoying riff raff out. Tsunami also has excellent happy hour specials on drinks and sushi. I would HIGHLY recommend Tsunami to anyone looking for an enjoyable evening

OK, so I went to Tsunami expecting it to have a bit more of a sushi selection but I'll take the hit for that one for not checking the menu first. My overall take on the restaurant, it's alright... but certainly not something to write home about. The service was a bit slow and there were only two other people in the place when we first arrived. It took about 10 minutes for the server to even come and greet us at the table and then about another 10 more to get the order out. The server didn't seem as if she really wanted to be there but we all have our days, right? The sushi was decently priced and was fresh. Some of the rolls aren't made traditionally, like the spicy tuna was tossed with red pepper flakes. Another note about the spicy food. When they say spicy, they mean spicy. I recommend the miso soup and the short rib, that was very good! The sriracha mac and cheese was also very good but again, pretty spicy. I wasn't a fan of the bacon brussel sprouts but then again, I'm not huge on brussel sprouts in the first place. The sangria was horrible but I haven't given up hope on all of their drinks yet. We probably would return maybe for some drinks and small plates and call it a day!

So glad I finally went to Tsunami. My boyfriend and I went here for date night in Annapolis. The restaurant and bar area were packed, hence our not being able to get a reservation until 9:45pm. No matter, we wanted some sushi! She first seated us very close to another couple and I asked to be moved by the window, which wasn't a problem. I'm not sure if they don't book all their tables for reservations or what, but the table next to us was empty the entire time. Seemed a little strange. The waiter came over and took my boyfriends drink (beer) order and didn't ask me for mine. Uhh, ok? I guess he just forgot. It was busy. He was a nice guy for sure though. I thought the music was a little too loud for a restaurant, but it's also a bar and I guess people are also there to just drink, not have meals, as it was later at night. You definitely have to raise your voice a lot, but it seemed to improve as the night went on. Maybe it was just the alcohol in me.. Not sure, but on a Saturday night it isn't an intimate dining place. Onward to the food... First, going on what other reviewer's have said, we ordered the Ahi Tuna Lollipop appetizer. They were seasoned nicely and clearly a great cut of fish. Not really my kind of thing overall.. I'm just getting into the whole raw fish thing.. but they were tasty! I'm sure any raw fish fans would looove them. For sushi we selected the Spicy Tuna, Bagel, California Rolls with the real crab, and my bf got an Eel roll and the raw tuna. A big selection of yummyness. It all came out on a large platter, our waiter told us what was what, and we dug in. All was delicious! Sushi is one of those things it seems like you can just eat and eat and eat and just be satisfied and not too full. We ate it all and were very happy! Drinks were good and he was attentive enough about refills. Crab sushi is always underwhelming for me. If, I mean WHEN, I go back to Tsunami, I will get TWO spicy tuna and TWO bagel rolls.. which were the best in my opinion. Great stuff.

So I bought a living social deal here and had dinner here with my friend. We sat in the bar area by the windows (we didn't realize we should have gotten a reservation). We were sitting for a while after we were given our menus before the bar tender came over and asked if we wanted anything to drink, by that time we were done ordering. After that initial set back the service was pretty normal. The miso soup was very good and so was the sushi. I would decently go back!

What's not to love! Delicious food, excellent cocktails, great vibe and fantastic service! Ahi Tuna Lollipops are a must have and the metropolitan roll is my favorite. Love the darker atmosphere with the louder music plus they serve food pretty late!

  • Cherry M.

The service was very good. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the food. I got three different types of sushi and it was mediocre. I expected more especially after paying $8 for each roll. Also their miso soup did not taste good. My friend ordered a scallop entree that cost about $30 and it came with 4 pieces of scallops and a small portion of rice. It was not worth the money! The restaurant is very small and has a bar which gets very loud. People walking in and out the the place to go smoke out front. Not what I expected..

I like Tsunami, but I wouldn't rate it anywhere close to my favorite sushi restaurant. Sushi is one of those cuisines where we all feel like we need to argue about "what the best sushi in the world" is. No matter if we have ever tried our friends suggested Sushi gem or not, we are already positive that it won't live up to the hype. Tsunami is no different in my opinion, but I do like the trendy/eclectic atmosphere of the place. Pros: Two words..... METROPOLITAN ROLL. It is killer, and it is the reason to come to Tsunami. Their fried rice is amazing as well. Also, the kitchen stays open until 1am or 2am. I know we normally don't crave sushi when we are drunk, but this is one of the best late night spots you can go to get food. Cons: I have never been blown away by their regular menu. Some of the food is good but most of the food is just "meh." Service is normally below average. Bottom Line: Stick to the sushi and in particular, the metropolitan roll. Then, when you see your bill, you will ask yourself why you didn't go to the competitor down the street.

Great first experience at Tsunami. Service was good and the sushi was fresh. Definitely try the Metropolitan Roll. I wouldn't have, except for the rave reviews. It was delicious! I felt like the prices were great, compared to DC sushi, it's a bargain. Most of the rolls were 8 pieces, instead of the usual 6 you get in DC. The Escolar was also fresh and delicious. To top it off, the server was able to get me a half portion of the bananas dessert (with ginger ice cream and caramel sauce). It was so yummy! We'll definitely try Tsunami again! Only negative is because it's just not a 5 star place - it could use some updates. If you're looking to blow your dates socks off, this is not the place to do it. But, if you are looking for an unpretentious, budget friendly sushi experience with great drinks - this fits the bill.

Three Words: AHI. TUNA. LOLLIPOPS. They are fantastic. Beyond fantastic. Get them. You want more words? METROPOLITAN. ROLL. So good. The sushi there is fresh, prepared quickly, and very good. Is it the best I've ever had? No. But it's priced very reasonably, and I like it. The scene is a little "hipster/trendy" but we've always been welcomed in there without a fight. The drinks there are good. Moscow Mules are my girlfriends favorites, and I always try something new. I've never been disappointed in how the drinks are made (although some aren't great, and that's my own fault) It is one of my favorite spots in Annapolis. No real views of anything cool, but garage parking right across the street and a cool, value based place for dinner.

Three Sushi Restaurant reviews in a row, it's a trifecta, or maybe a hat trick if you play hockey, or a triple in baseball. Great vibe. Lots of good choices on the overpriced menu. Try the popcorn shrimp appetizers. It is a 10, delicious! You may not need to order more food. But always good Sushi can be found at Tsunami.

3.5 stars Place offers a decent selection of Asian-fusion-ish dishes. Started off with the garlic edamame which was spicy and tasty. Moved onto some maki rolls, but it's pretty hard to screw up asparagus/shitaki. Ordered some additional sides which included garlic asparagus and the green curry bowl. The presumably Thai-inspired green curry bowl was pretty off in terms of a green curry. They may as well have called it a rice/veggie bowl so as not to get hopes up high. Even a fried rice would have been better, I just found it rather bland even though it was spicy as I requested. Good selection of alcoholic beverages. The desserts all received rave reviews from my party and we had a selection of at least three. Our server, Emily, was excellent.

The sushi here... was not bad. Great service, presentation, and drinks, however, the sushi... average. Perhaps the non-sushi fare is better, maybe will re-review after trying that. Still recommend for drinks and the ambiance.

The food was decent a little on the pricey side. The kicker was after leaving a 20% tip the waitress padded her tip and extra five which reflected on my credit card bill. Called twice to talk with a manager and no return call. Yes thats not a lot but its the principal. I will not be eating here again.

I've dined here multiple times & the sushi is always deeeeeelish!! We dined here last Saturday night & had another wonderful experience. Our server was very friendly & attentive making sure our drinks were always full. We were starving so we decided to start out with the srirachi mac & cheese to fill up a bit before ordering every roll off the menu. We ended up ordering the Spider, Metropolitan, Eel, Bagel, & Spicy Tuna rolls for dinner. The Metropolitan roll (tuna, shrimp tempura, avocado with creamy spicy and eel sauce, soy wrap) blew us away & is now our new favorite! The only "bad" thing is that this place is super popular so the tables are really close together so if you're claustrophobic I wouldn't suggest this place. Tsunami is definitely our favorite place for sushi in Annapolis.

Tsunami just opened when I still lived in Annapolis, and I believe I still have a matchbook from there. It was, and probably still is, a "hip" place to go, in contrast to the more historic pubs in the same area. It's got a nice, slick atmosphere, candles and all. I went here w/ a visiting friend and on a date w/ an older man, and both parties had a good time. I don't know what I ate, but I remember liking the food. Once, there was a DJ and dancing, which was tough to find in Annapolis. I would say Tsunami is a good date place, but not as much "friendly neighborhood bar" as most others in the downtown area.
