Food is great! Authentic. One of the best in this area for Mexican/Latin food. Atmosphere needs some work, but the food more than makes up for it.

I'm not sure how I haven't reviewed this place yet. Actually I am but I'm being sarcastic because I enjoy it so much. First of all you have to ignore the strip mall its in, the food is amazing. All the servers and owner are very friendly but its really about the food. Its one of those restaurants where everything I try is delicious but every time I go I want one of my favorites so much I'm not willing to try something else. My favorirtes include the enchiladas with either tomatillo or mole sauce, but #1 is the lomo saltado..mmm! If you like real Mexican/latin food and are even remotely in the area make a point to stop by!

If had not heard so many good things about this place, I never would have stopped to eat here. From the outside the place does not look very inviting. It is located in a run down strip mall next to a liquor store. Upon walking inside, the decor doesn't build much confidence either (it could stand a major face lift). We were greeted by a very friendly server who instantly said there were three things we just "had to try", the margaritas, the sangria and the monitors. I ordered a margarita and my wife had the sangria. Both were very good and you could taste that they did not go light on the alcohol. We later ordered a monitor as well, it was good, but it had Malibu rum in it which I could have done without. The server came back and again said there was something we "had to try", the guacamole. It was hands down the best we have ever had, even better than anything we had in Mexico. The owner came to our table several times. He told us that everything In made fresh every day. It was obvious that he takes great pride in the food he serves. We ordered our entrees; I had the Ropa Fritas and my wife the Chicken Chimicanga. Both were nothing short of amazing!! Do not be put off by the appearance of his place, the friendly service and the high quality of the fresh food they serve make this place a hit. Sin Fronteras will be added as one of our regular stops....

While looking for a place to dine during our stay in Annapolis , I came across this restaurant and decided to try it out since it received high ratings. We were very happy with the food, especially the fish tacos. Just like the other diners who left reviews, we really liked the service that the owner Walter and his staff provided! We told him how we came across his establishment and the great reviews that we saw here on Yelp. Another patron said they found him by way of Yelp also. I told him he should check out these reviews since he said he has not seen them. If we are ever in the area again, we will be sure to eat here!!

Everything I ate was fantastic. There were large portions and it was all seasoned perfectly. Prices are great too. The guacamole and queso were some of the best I have ever had. I met the owner and he is a very nice man and we talked about how everything is fresh and never frozen, which I could easily tell myself. They also just built a deck in front now which makes this place even better. I have nothing negative to say about this restaurant. Highly recommended, you'll love everything about it.

Okay, I'm a little mad that the secret is out. You know it's good when a restaurant is frequented by the same ethnic group the cuisine is based on. This place was packed. Don't let the looks deceive you, it's easy to pass this place. It's across from Shoppers in a small plaza. The ambiance is just okay, which is fine cause the food and mojitos are freakin fab tastic. In fact, I suggest taking a cab if you are in the Annapolis area or getting a designated driver because the mojitos pack a punch. The Sangria is great too. Let's talk food: try the ceviche, guacamole, tacos, and the best Lomo Saltado. You need to come prepared, I advise elastic waist pants, comfy shoes and your close friends. Unless you are greedy, you can keep the above, just keep a fork handy in case anyone comes near your food so you can jab them. The food is ample so you can pace yourself and still have leftovers.

Had great Calamari that had a spicy sauce to dip. My partners ordered a Chimichanga and Peruvian lomo saltado. Both were very good except the chimi had too much rice filling. We also started with guacamole which was no disappointment on the size did need salt so we added to taste. Overall it was good authentic south of the border food. Only four stars because the waiter was a little flustered but the owner came over to welcome us which was nice. We will be going back with new friends.

Wow. Found this place through Yelp yesterday afternoon for a lunch date. I had chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. Best. Mole. Ever. I was just so blown away by the quality of this food. My friend had Pollo a la Barbacoa, which is cooked in waxed paper. Presentation was lovely as was the portion size and taste. Service was first-rate, interior was pleasant and clean...but again: the food was the star here, as it should be. There is no reason to look elsewhere for Mexican food in Annapolis. By the way, if you're in Severna Park, the place to go for Mexican is Chris' if they are open as they close much too early. Mi Pueblo II? I'd steer clear. It appears to have more bells and whistles, but the food is extremely average. Stick with Chris' and Sin Fronteras, and you cannot go wrong.

Really tasty food. We were very hungry and tried many menu items - all were delicious. The freshly made guacamole was fabulous - big chunks of avocado, plenty of cilantro, a little onion and jalapeno (hint: ask for it spicy), served in a molcajete. Tortillas also freshly made, very delicate with a good earthy taste from the grill. We especially loved the pupusas and the baleadas, and enjoyed the enchiladas and chile relleno. You could get by spending less than $10 per person here, depending on your hunger level. We spent about $30 per person for appetizers, entrees and margarita. Atmosphere is a little off-putting at first, until the friendly servers greet you - big screen TVs in both the bar & dining room, tables arranged around the edge of the rooms. The owner stopped by each table a few times to introduce himself, say hello, ask about the experience. Nice touch.

(Not easy to find but don't give up. This place is worth the quest.) Real home cooking. The menu is huge, diverse, and very reasonably priced. And unlike the old beer commercial cliche'; this food not only tastes great, it is very filling. And while I haven't tried everything (yet) my gut tells me it is all wonderful. If you are not familiar with something, try it. I highly recommend becoming a regular. Rumor has it that Diners, Drive Inns and Dives will be shooting here this fall. You might just end up on TV.

Best Salsa Verde and Mole sauces I've had east of the Mississippi and possibly ever. Everything we had was top notch. Service was good and the owner was on the premises and obviously cared a great deal about how things were. On the rare occasion I find a place with food this goo, it just makes me wonder what the other 95% of chefs are thinking as the churn out bland food. When they eat at a place like this they must all mumble "Wow, I didn't know food could taste like that!" Don't be fooled by the exterior/location, be thankful for it. If it looked nicer they could charge twice the price for the food! Enjoy!

Service was excellent. Adones took his time taking our orders and made recommendations. He also took our drink orders very seriously. The variety on the menu was overwhelming, in a good way. All of our meals were delicious. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the meals were not hot.

LOVED! Great service. Great prices. Delicious food. Clean. Excellent variety on menu. Perfect margaritas. PERFECT guacamole.... And unreal main dishes. We will be back at least once every two weeks. LOVED!!!

We are so happy we finally tried this place! I was worried it may not be kid friendly- we have a 2 yr old, but it was! Very noisy, to drown out any embarrassing meltdowns. Ha ha. Everything we had was delicious. I don't eat meat, and was very happy the mole was vegetarian, homemade, and SO yummy! My husband does, however eat meat, and said everything he had was amazing. Chips and salsa were also good. My only two complaints were: our waiter suggested we get a pitcher of margarita, since it was "more cost effective" if we were to have more than one. I thought MAYBE I might have 2, but then came the pitcher. It was huge. And had we known it was THIRTY DOLLARS we never would have let him talk us into it!! Felt very taken advantage of. My second complaint is the atmosphere/decor. I feel like the restaurant's decor should at least (a little bit!) live up to how good the food is. Since they are obviously making good money now, they could use some remodeling/upgrades. It is very plain inside, and they have not made good use of the space they have. One of the worst interiors of any Latin restaurants I've ever been in. But for the food- go! Check it out! You won't be sorry. Just don't let their salespeople, I mean waiters, talk you into anything you don't want.

Have been here twice and the owner has spoken to us both times, very friendly staff and excellent food! The chicken mole enchiladas are fantastic and I also recommend the guacamole and the queso (we got it sans chorizo and chile for my vegetarian stepmother) and we practically licked the bowl clean. Solid drinks as well! It was completely full last time I came and we had to wait for a little while but the owner made sure to keep checking on us and updating us on when the next table would be opening up, so five stars for sure!

  • Manfred M.

Very nice mole enchiladas. If you're from California, be sure to ask for food to be spiced up, especially the salsa that comes with the initial tortilla chips. The food is not traditional Mexican or Tex-Mex. It's central American and features an unusually large selection of central American dishes with lots of seafood.

Being from that part of the world, this place is ok. Nothing to write home about. Prices are really cheap so it gets 3 stars.

    (3)
  • Rob B.

The food here is terrific; not enough places in Annapolis to get authentic Central American food. The pupusas are great, as is the plantain chips with chili-lime sauce appetizer. The atmosphere is also quite pleasant, with a very clean look.

After going to the Mexican Cafe (which produces microwaved food which tastes awful and looks like vomit) and popular El Toro Bravo (which has friendly staff with so-so "okay" food) I had resigned myself to an incorrect conclusion that their was no EXCELLENT Latin restaurant in Annapolis.... that was until yesterday when I decided to try Sin Fronteras! On the outside it looks grubby/authentically catering to a South American clientele. It's location is away from the usual restaurant areas close to where a lot of migrant Latinos live which augments this conclusion. Once inside one is presented with a pleasant albeit basic environment with genuinely attentive friendly staff. So what about the food and drink... Drinks first, my partner and I tried 5 cocktails. The margaritas were excellent, reasonably priced and large in size. we tried various other cocktails, all were authentically made, tasted great and well priced but did not come in the large-sized portion of a margarita. On the food front we ordered guacamole for starter. I was impressed by the speed in which the food came out despite the fact that it had obviously just being freshly prepared. The presentation and taste of the food showed that care and attention had gone into its preparation. Next I ordered a 3 meat fajita. The chicken was grilled and juicy, the shrimp had been properly cleaned and the steak meat was tender. The the vegetables were all fresh and clearly some effort had gone into the preparation - it was not an afterthought. My girlfriend ordered a chimichanga - again the presentation showed that great effort had gone into its production and the meal itself was absolutely delicious. All in all I simply cannot recommend this restaurant enough. If you feel like a "Mexican"/Latin food you simply cannot eat at a better place in the Annapolis area. 5 stars!!

Just found this place recently from great yelp reviews and everything we have had so far was amazing. Everything is made fresh in house and it shows. Service was also very quick whether we came in for lunch mid week or dinner on a Friday night.

My wife and I were greeted by the owner as soon as we walked in and were immediately seated and served drinks, chips and salsa. The fajitas were amazing! the atmosphere was very friendly everything was great. I will definitly be back. I came here because of the yelp reviews and they were spot on. a must go if your in annapolis and craving latin food. the price is great too!

So my wife and I tried this place after reading all the positive reviews and let me just say, this place did not disappoint. I'm giving 4 stars because my food tasted a lot better than it looked. The other reason is just based purely on aesthetics of the restaurant and location. This is definitely the best Spanish restaurant in Annapolis. So if your looking for a tasty Spanish meal in a sketchy part of Annapolis, this is your place!

Oh. My. Goodness. What a surprise. Ok, maybe not so much of a surprise based on the great Yelp reviews, but still. Coming from Texas, I have typically avoided Tex-Mex/Mexican food around here since I thought they would not be able to measure up. Well Sin Fronteras is more of a latin fusion restaurant, completely different from typical TexMex. The location leave a bit to be desired, and the the decorations are a bit lacking inside. At 7 pm on a Friday, we still waited for about 5-10 minutes to get a table. Waiting = a good sign. We started off the night with a margarita and mojito, both of which were great. The margaritia is definitely strong and the mojito has more a a cocunut flair than I was used to. Now to the food. There were so many options. From traveling in Peru, I was excited to see lomo saltado and ceviche. I also love ropa viejo. So far so good! I ended up getting the Baleadas, which is a Honduran dish with guacamole, cream, rice, beans, cheese, and your choice of meat. Fantastic choice! Big serving size as well. My friend got the ropa vieja, which was probably the best I have ever had. So tender. The owner even came by to talk to us, which was a great touch. The price was also right on spot. 2 entrees and 2 (strong) drinks for under $40. Iwill definitely be coming back!

Every time I get Mexican I get a chimmichanga, this place served me one of the best ones I've ever had! Great service, the owner came over and chatted with us. Everything was delicious, just wish I knew it was there sooner!

I've gone to this place many times and my family and I love it. It's affordable and offers large portion sizes. My boyfriend and I have come there just to eat the fried banana and ice cream dessert. It's to die for especially when it comes out warm. The margaritas are also generous on the alcohol and delicious.

  • Charlie H.

After reading the reviews, I came with high expectations. We started with the gaucamole and margaritas. The gauc was bland and ok and the drinks were strong but made with a generic mixer. My wife had the highly recommended enchiladas with mole...nothing special. I had the.chille rellenos stuffed with chicken it was spicy and so so. Our kids enjoyed the quesadilla with carnitas. In all, this place is at best average and one you should pass on.

Authentic food coupled with a staff that makes you feel like family. I love their Chicharron en salsa verde.

  • Darina O.

This place is outstanding. It doesn't look that on the outside, but their food is absolutely fantastic and vegetarian friendly. I always get the vegetarian Chimichanga and I am absolutely addicted to this heavenly dish! Comes with a small salad that's not drowned in dressing. Absolutely amazing! The only weak thing is the staff, but nothing outrageously horrible. Definitely recommend!!!

This hidden gem is exactly that. Great ceviche, personable service, andeven dessert on the house. You must try this place!

  • Chris B.

Your car stereo may be gone by the time you finish that margarita. Okay, maybe before you finish the ceviche. But, the good news is that the food will make you forget. Try the fish tacos with a bit of lime along with a sangria and you will never miss the stereo, until the next day. The food is outstanding and the staff is very attentive. Ignore the exterior, ignore the interior, pull up a chair at the bar and enjoy an Annapolis afternoon. No water required.

The decor may be spartan but the food is incredible! The only complaint I had about our experience was a boisterous table... a very noisy table... combined with too much bare concrete walls made the noise echo and make quiet conversation with my companion virtually impossible. But the party soon left and we were able to enjoy both the meal and the conversation. She had the Pollo a la Barbacoa, or what might be described in French as Coq en papillotte. The chicken had been cooked with a delicious blend of spices and seasoning inside a paper sack. Just cutting into the little envelope of goodness filled our table with an amazing aroma. The chicken was barely hanging on to the bone and was simply delightful. Meanwhile I tried the Peruvian lomo saltado which was even better than the barbacoa. I was having trouble deciding between the Steak Mexicana and the lomo saltado, so I asked our waitress what she would recommend. With a bright flash in her eyes and a big smile, without hesitation she suggested the latter, and man was she right. At least I think she was right because I can't imagine any dish on the menu being any better than what I ordered. I might have been a little disappointed that it was described as being served over a bed of french fries, but when it arrived in front of me and I tasted it, the fries were a perfect vessel to absorb the sauce. Wow was it good. It isn't' a fancy place, but you'll be hard pressed to find a better meal anywhere. We are lucky to have this place as well as Jalapenos within a quarter mile of each other. Other than the decor, if I had to describe the difference between the two I'd generalize by saying that Jalapenos is more a Mexican/Spanish place with a great Tapas menu and Paella on the menu. While Sin Fronteras is more a Mexican/Central/South American vibe. Whatever you call them, you'll get a great meal at either place.

My first time dining here for lunch today and I will most certainly be back. I was lucky enough to be with a couple colleagues who are regulars. The chile relleno was delicious and their chips are fresh and warm. I couldn't agree more with all of the other reviewers who commented on the owner and staff and how welcoming they are. We were treated wonderfully and warmly.

I grew up eating authentic Mexican food and this place is just "okay." The food has a good flavor, but surely not authentic. The owner seemed nice the first couple of times we went. The margaritas are okay. I gave it four three stars because it has one redeeming quality-- ceviche. Their ceviche is delicious and we make trips often for just ceviche! When you are in the need for some "Latino" food and it's convenient, I'd say go for it, but I know there are better places.

Thanks to fellow Yelpers, I quickly dismissed the reactions I had to the "sketchy" neighborhood and headed inside. This restaurant is awesome. We were immediately greated by our Waiter and the Owner (Walter). Our experience was absolutely wonderful and I can't wait to go back. Everything is made fresh, in house, and to order. Walter told us that nothing if from yesterday and nothing will be saved for tomorrow. You won't find any microwaves in the back of the restaurant and expect their freezer to be close to empty - everything is fresh. And it tastes fresh! That being said - this is not the place to go if your New Year's Resolution includes dropping 10 pounds. The food is delicious, fresh, and hot - but it is rich. The service is excellent. We both had leftovers - the portions are generous and it is an excellent value for the money. Unfortunately, we did not get to experience a drink from the bar during our lunch visit. We also didn't have appetizers. I hope to go back again when I am not recovering from New Year's Eve and excessive holiday gluttony. We enjoyed the Baleadas (Chorizo and Carne Asada) and Ropa Vieja. The chips and salsa are delicious. We especially appreciated the friendliness of the staff and the time spent with the owner who chatted with us about the food and his philosophy. I was happy to see our car undisturbed and we'll definitely be back! PS - While the restaurant does not currently have outdoor seating, they hope to have a patio soon.

So, first time coming but amazed at the authenticity and deliciousness. I brought my whole family and everyone came away super satisfecho. Whenever we are in Annapolis this will be our place. By the way, the mole is outstanding.

After hearing a lot of word of mouth on this place, we went to check it out. The decor leaves a lot to be desired, but it was clean and in the end that's mostly what matters to me. Our server's English wasn't super strong, but she was extremely courteous, prompt and would swoop in to check in on us. She was really delightful. Our food was great, really authentic & flavorful. My husband doesn't like Mexican and he said that he would return. We both got the tacos (chorizo, chicken & beef) and all were unique in flavoring and presentation. We also go the queso dip which was delicious. We also took our son, who enjoyed the food and our server was really courteous to him as well. We look forward to returning.

This is my husband's favorite place to eat in Annapolis. Latin American isn't usually my first choice, but even I have to admit their food is outstanding. It's a little tricky to get there and to park, but once you're in your seat the food is the best of it's kind her in Annapolis. It's all fresh tasting, and really good guacamole!

  • Chuck T.

The go to place to Latin food in Annapolis. They make everything fresh down to the chorizo and tortilla. The fish taco's. $2.50 a taco for grilled sword fish, damn. Best margaritas and sangria. More important, the service is the best in Annapolis.

Nothing to say but "Awesome". Unpretentious, unassuming, and really a gem. If you're searching for fancy, drive by. If you want friendly, fun, and lively, this is the place. Tip of my hat to the owners; they are friendly, welcoming, and have created a great "neighborhood" atmosphere. And the margaritas.....

While this place is a bit hard to find, b/c of it's itty bitty sign, itty bitty parking lot, and big liquor store neighbor, it was worth the rerouting. I went here based on you yelpers, and as usual, I wasn't let down. Walter, the owner, came right over after we were seated, and gave us a little background of the place, of his journey, and of his passion for whipping up fresh, lively, and tasty Latin cuisine. We started off with the chile queso with chorizo. The BEST I've ever had, and I know my queso! Their chips were homemade, and had a great crunch. I ordered the Ropa Vieja. It was fantastic! No fat in the beef either. It reminded me of a great pot roast, with a Latin flare. The fried plantains were heaven--I could've eaten a whole plate of those as my meal. The rice and beans were alright. My friend had the Chimichanga, which was 1/2 the size of her noggin. It was very tasty and fresh. We were good girls, and refused to eat the entire feast at once. While waiting for the check, our waitress brought out their caramel/orange flan, on the house. :) While the flan itself was refreshing and light, the orange rum sauce it was sitting in, was, well....intense. I felt like I had to take the flan down like a shot. Yikes! But of course we ate it with a smile, because you never look a gift horse (a drunk one at that) in the mouth. This is my new favorite Mexican joint. Skip the chains, and hit up this local, one of a kind cafe!

Incredibly good food! Thanks Yelp reviewers for steering me to this winner of a restaurant. Go here for a nice change from the ordinary "bean gravey " Mexican places that try to pass themselves off as authentic. You'll love it! Trust us.

My gal is a south Texas chic who knows Mexican and she says the Mole sauce is awesome. Th atmosphere won't knock your socks but it's authentic and the best Mexican in Annapolis by a long shot.

5 stars...seriously delicious food! Every ti e I eat here, I try to order something different...except for the Pisco Sours. I get those every time! Last night it was the Carnitas Tacos (pork) and Calamari. My husband had the Chicken Burritos with Mole Sauce...let me tell you...that mole Sauce on my tacos was fantastic! The service is always friendly and quick. And of course, Walter, the owner, is so personable and kind...always stopping by to make sure everyone is happy. (and satisfied). We've been coming here for a little over two years...honestly, the prices have not gone up. And if they have, it's ever so slightly. Definitely give this place a try. You will enjoy it!

I went to Sin Fronteras for lunch today and may never eat any place else! WOW! Let me start with the chips and salsa they brought to the table while I was waiting---the BEST salsa I've ever had--ever. I ate the whole bowl. It was so addicting I couldn't stop. I ordered the pork chop with the juana sauce--divine...It came with wonderful light and fluffy mashed potatoes--different from what I am used to but so much better than what you find in most American restaurants these days--and beans and rice, again the best I've ever had. I ordered the fried chicken for take out and when I arrived home decided to taste a bit just to see what it was like before I put it in the fridge. Well, it never made it to the fridge. This is fried chicken of a higher order. It beats any fried chicken in Annapolis and I have searched high and low. The skin was crispy perfection and then there was a sauce on top--similar to the juana that completely did me in. I only have one wish in order to make this my all time go-to best of Annapolis dish and that would be to have a breast available in addition to the dark meat. But believe me, even though I ususally prefer white meat fried chicken, this is so amazing, I am thrilled with whatever I can get! The chicken came with 2 side salads--one similar to a vinegar cole slaw (very good) and the other a put- hair-on-your-chest spicy concoction that was out of my realm of experience and which I thought was great. And then there were the plantain chips which I thought I would not like and which turned out to be quite good--kind of like potatoes. So, now I am ill, can't move, fat and extremely happy and have to be like a snake and take 3 days to digest all this FABULOUS food! Yelpers, GO TO THIS PLACE--you will thank me! ****************************************************************************** Ok, so I'm working my way through this menu and here are some new things to report: Today I ordered the Tomato Bisque and was completely shocked to find out that they make it--and just about everything else--to order!!! I thought for sure I would not be able to get it because it includes calamari which I avoid like the plague. But, no no no--they can make it any way I want--unbelievable...And it is really good, but note that it is not French Bisque. It is lighter and flavored with more of a Latin American taste..yummmm. The Shrimp Fettucini with Diablo Sauce that I got the other night is fantastic--just one minor/fixable complaint--I don't like crunchy onions with my noodles. Next time I will either see if they can cook them till soft or ask for the dish minus onions--no big deal. It will still be a top knotch dish. The fried Redsnapper is divine--and I have to compare it with Anne Arundel Seafood--not even in the same league. The grilled Talapia in wine sauce is just exquisite. (I am running out of superlatives for this place) And I am really becoming a fan of their pickled onions--very unusual and hard to describe--you just gotta try em. They are also extremely accommodating to changing the side dishes. Instead of beans and rice I just wanted rice--no problem (and very good rice too, unlike most of the dry pellets you get elsewhere) I wanted fries instead of plantain--sure (they need to find new fries. These are one of the few things they don't make in house and they are not up to the standards of their other food) The owners here are BIG TIME into pleasing their customers. Basically, ask and ye shall receive. So, there you are to my current experiments. I love these dishes so much that I want to get them again and again, but I am forcing myself to hold off until I have tried them all. And then the difficult thing will be to figure out which one is my favorite. Miami/Mexico/Latin America have come to Annapolis--yeah!!!

If you haven't made a trip to Forest Drive specifically to eat here, you are wrong. It is not a beautiful storefront, but they mean business. The parking lot is weird and it looks shady, but they're doing good things inside! The vieja ropa is fantastic. There were even plantains that I liked, which I normally don't. I've never eaten in here, but have gotten takeout and it was packed and full of flavor. This is the place you haven't tried that you absolutely need to. Put it on the list, for today!

A new favorite for us since opening last year. The owner, Walter, is always there ready to greet anyone and everyone when they arrive. The food is authentic, fresh and very tasty. Chorizo tacos to die for and the queso creamy and spicy.

We were at the mall with our two kids (6 and 9) in tow desperate to go somewhere other than Red Robin. My son is an adventurous eater. My daughter (6) eats white food (chicken nuggets, french fries, etc.) when she's out. So, this limits our ability to eat at awesome places with the kids. Not anymore. Sin Fronteras has simple, amazing food. The guacamole was very good, and quite large. The chips were hot and crispy. The Ropa Viejas was amazing and I brought home lunch for the next day. My husband had the Cuban Sandwich and thought it was fantastic. The service was great and the prices reasonable. My son loved the taco salad and my daughter was thrilled they had chicken fingers, french fries and chocolate milk! Thanks Yelpers for helping us chose this great place to eat!

This place loses a star for location, but their queso is out of this world! I could seriously eat my weight in it! They also have great customer service! During my last visit here they were out of queso, whch left me a bit disapointed. When the owner ( who is always there) heard about this, he gave us a free dessert ( delicious flan) and as soon as a new batch of queso was ready ( just as we were leaving) they gave us a free to go container wity fresh warm tortilla chips! Talk about great customer service!

This absolutely lives up to the great reviews. Atmosphere and decor is a very divey lunch vibe, but the food is awesome--well worth the stop. Right off highway 50 so easy to get to if you're passing through--definitely stop! The guac and rips vieja were great--huge portions--I now have dinner tonight!

One word - wow! Best Latin restaurant in Annapolis!! Great food and drinks... The salsa will knock your socks off. Wayyyyy better service and atmosphere than El Toro Bravo. Don't let the liquor store next door scare you away... The owner greeted us with warmth, and the place was clean and tidy! And the Chile con queso..... Words cannot express how good it was... My boyfriend wanted to 'bottle it!'

I have been here twice now and agree that it is a rarity for Annapolis in terms of true ethnic food that is well done. The owner is also incredibly engaging and passionate as noted by others and seems to make a point to greet every table and welcome them and that is also a breath of fresh air in Naptown. The best thing I had there was the chicken enchiladas and they come with mole or tomatillo sauce and they were nice enough to give me one of each sauce on each enchilada. In addition, the margaritas were excellent - super fresh and citrusy and not all sugary with prefabbed mix. My stars off are because the "staples" of chips and salsa and the guacamole were both pretty disappointing both times. The chips did not seem fresh at all and the salsa did not look or taste homemade and the guacamole seemed more like just avocado with cilantro. I also think the prices are a little high given that it is a very casual, hole in the wall type place and some items seem to not be as "fresh or homemade" as advertised.

The best place to go in Annapolis for authentic hispanic cuisine. Remember, it's AUTHENTIC, so the tacos don't come overflowing with lettuce and sour cream. Buck for buck the most delicious food in town and the staff is ultra friendly. Walter, the owner, will entertain you with stories about Miami and recommend dishes you won't find in any other restaurant in the city. Toro Bravo and Mexican Cafe are wonderful eateries, but their version of "authentic" caters to American tastes. For a true latin dining experience, check out Sin Fronteras!

4-5 stars for service: the owner came over and spoke with us, he was very polite, and after our meal he treated us to dessert (flan, on the house!) the ambiance is decent/ average, nothing fancy, which is fine with me. there is a private room and a main room where the bar is located. we dined in the main room and it was a bit loud, but still nothing that would deter me from visiting/ spending my money again. 4 stars for most of the food: i ordered the fish tacos. they were flavorful, good portion size and priced reasonably. we also ordered the yucca as an appetizer: delicious! the yucca was steamed and then fried, with a cabbage salad, chicharron, and chile (a must order). lastly my partner got baleadas. he said the cheese tasted like feet, and was too strong for his taste... ha! i don't think this is from improper food preparation (i've eaten this type of cheese before and it can taste like feet!) i would suggest simply not ordering that dish, instead try some of their other tasty dishes. highly recommend this place!

Solid Mexican food. Our takeout order was ready in ten minutes! Very fast service. Although the food wasn't the best if I've ever had, my burrito was definitely good and I'll be going there again when my next burrito craving comes.

Delish!! Excellent! Fast! perfect! Highly recommend. My daughter had a colossal burrito. Hub had a chicken dish with mango and Cuban flair. My dish too was excellent, the name escapes me but it was a flour tortilla with steak, cheeses guacamole. Basically a quesadilla but that wasn't the name of the dish. My favorite thing of all was the delicious bowl of guacamole with fresh tortilla chips. Best guacamole I've tasted in forever. Little hidden gem that we will revisit again! Don't let the simple exterior of the place fool you.

The food has been fantastic every time I have visited this establishment. The owner is very friendly and even got up from his seat to hold the door himself for my family and I. I love to go with my friends to 'El Toro Bravo' for drinks, but their food is lacking compared to this gem. This is the only place in Annapolis I visit when craving spanish food. Flavor and freshness are just two words that come to mind when describing the food. Service is also great. Very friendly staff and attentive servers. I see a lot of complaints about the menu items not being entirely Mexican. "Sin Fronteras" literally means 'Without Borders'. Hence the Peruvian, Salvadorian, Cuban, Mexican, etc. dishes on the menu. They consider themselves a Mexican/Latin food establishment.

Decent is the word that comes to mind when describing this place. The owner is extremely nice. He welcomed us into this joint bragging that "all the rich white folks come here to eat". He repeated this several times as if to drive home the point...don't ask me why though. I agree with other reviewers that the salsa was extremely watery. I think more of it dripped on me than actually stayed on the chips. As for food, I'm by no means a Cuban/mexican/latino connoisseur. However, the best comparison I had was a hole in the wall place in California that was highly recommended by family who lived in the area. I ordered the burrito, dreaming of the California version I had a while ago. It didn't come close. Admittedly, I probably didn't order "the right thing", but it was what I craved at the time. I would be willing to go back a second time if I could deal with the snobbery (a woman driving a fancy drop-top almost his us 3 times as we were saying our goodbyes in the parking lot!). Otherwise, I'd rather go to my local Mexican hangout closer to home.

I really like it here. The chips and salsa were good. Guac was fresh and very good. I got carnitas tacos- yum! Just so good! I love places where I can get solid carnitas and this is definitely it. Margaritas are strong! I love me some margs, but after one bigger marg I was tipsy. The patio here is very nice and big. The waitstaff is very, very good. The owner even came to talk to me and see how the food was. He also moved an extra table out to the patio bc it was full and I prefer to sit outside when I can. Really exceptional service and very good food. I'll be back!

My fiance and I heard about Sin Fronteras through some friends. We previously lived in College Park, MD where it was easy to find Mexican restaurants that served fresh, authentic Mexican food (or more like El Salvadorian). Sin Fronteras was as good, if not better, than any of these restaurants. I ordered a shrimp and tomato dish, and my fiance ordered the chile relleno. The portions were generous. Nothing was over-cheesed or over-sauced, which happens all too often at Mexican restaurant chains. Everything tasted excellent. We also started with guacamole, which was clearly whipped up shortly after we ordered it. In addition to having great food, Sin Fronteras also has great service. The owner came around to each table to make sure everyone was enjoying their meals. Our server was attentive and pleasant. It's easy to pass by Sin Fronteras, as it's located in a small strip mall on Forest Drive. As another commenter mentioned, don't let the location discourage you! There's plenty of parking. We will definitely come back!

Stopped by around 6 on a Saturday. We were seated promptly. The menu is not your typical tex-mex, so not ideal if you are looking for bland combo platters with giant sides. We had the steak baleada and a chicken burrito. In both items the meat was excellent. The portions were a bit small. I don't live in the area but would go back if in the neighborhood. Tip- do not park in the spots marked for the liquor store. There was a guy standing outside watching where people went, probably calling a tow truck.

Awesome! Stopped off here with the kids on our way back from rehoboth beach. Had the chicken in the wax paper, Si had the crispy fried pork with onions. We both were blown away. This will now be our ritual to come eat here on the way back from the beach. A must!!!!

This place was special. Thank you yelp for pointing this gem out. First off, the guacomole was some of the best I've had......ever. Fajitas were excellent and they grill their own tortillas. The other dish that was outrageous was the Pascado Oaxaca, a grilled tilapia in a smoky red cream sauce. It is served with tortillas. They also have amazing flan. On top of all that the service was amazing. The waiter joked with us all night. The place is clean and fresh inside. The prices are very reasonable. Now I have a reason to go back to Annapolis.

I would give this place a solid five if the atmosphere were a bit less fluorescent-cafeteria and more inviting BUT the food is amazing! I had the Chile Rellenos and it was delicious - spicy, flavorful, and yummy. My son had the chicken burrito and he said the flavors were fantastic. My relleno came with a side of rice & beans which were just 'meh,' It tasted as if it came out of a box mix. Something was off about it. Highly recommend this place! Friends come here regularly for group parties and the service is outstanding.

This place never disappoints! We came for dinner on Saturday, July 18 and sat on the porch. It was a little hot and we ended up with the entire porch to ourselves, but inside was packed. My boyfriend and I were celebrating his birthday, and we each ordered drinks (a frozen margarita and a Corona), along with queso and guacamole for appetizers. The queso was very good, but was completely overshadowed by the guacamole. It was amazing!! Fresh made and so flavorful. I could have eaten just that as my meal and been completely happy. We each ordered a chimichanga as our main dish. They were great - fresh, stuffed full of messy, cheese and beans, and huge portions. I think the prices are very fair overall, and comparable with other restaurants in the area. Service was prompt, but I am never able to tell who my actual server is because 3 or 4 people are bringing you food and drinks throughout your meal. For that reason, and because the porch is next to a busy road and isn't that scenic, I give Sin Fronteras 4 stars. Otherwise, they are amazing!

Honestly I just don't see it. Here is the rundown. Ambiance: it shares a space with a run down liquor store with bars on the windows. Inside is ok. Service: redonkulusly bad (yes that was redonkulusly not a misspelling). For being so slow you think you could get the order right. You never know who your server is and it doesn't matter anyways because they all are equally bothered by you being there. Food: entrees are actually pretty good I had the burrito and my wife had the Cuban sandwich ($11.99). Both were great if perhaps a little over priced. The meat is some of the best cooked selections I have had in any restaurant let alone a Mexican one. One caveat, the chips are just sad. Summary: good food but not worth the wait, price, and bad service.

I'm sad that it took us so long to finally eat here. We are moving out of state soon and I'll lament the missed opportunities that I could have been eating that lomo saltado. The food here is very, very good. The Ropa Vieja is my husband's favorite. The drinks are also awesome but be careful because those margaritas are strooong. The manager usually greets you and is very friendly. The wait can be a little long for your food but it's worth it!

Three and a half stars. Enough parking in the attached lot, bar with a TV separate from the family-friendly restaurant. Earnest management. I was craving a Cuban and ropa vieja, and SF scratched the itch. Housemade chips were served with semi-spicy, watery salsa. They were kind enough to bastardize our sandwich upon request, which had a properly conservative ratio of bread to pork and swiss, plus a few pickles. Simple french fries cooked through without seasoning. Ropa vieja and sweet plaintains were both a little dry (and the vegetables dotting the meat could have been cooked down more) so I'd give Cubano's the edge on those; I do like that it was accompanied with casamiento instead of segregated rice and beans. Future hit list: cordero a la barbacoa, pork chop a la mamajuana, yuca con chicharon, lomo saltado, baleada, and a giant margarita.

Lomo Saltado and enchilada mole were fantastic! We will definitely be going back. The flavors of the dishes we ordered had depth in flavor and the meats were seasoned just right. They have a good selection of seafood dishes to chicken, beef and pork. The mole wasn't super sweet w the right amount of cocoa and texture. I can't wait to try some of the other Latin dishes they serve there.

Pondering my options for Mexican food while in Annapolis & Yelp led me to Sin Fronteras Cafe. It was hopping on a Saturday night and the wait for a table was less than 20 minutes. The owner came by to introduce himself and to welcome me. He asked how I heard about Sin Fronteras Cafe & also explained that the food is cooked to order, not microwaved & freshly made onsite. He didn't lie; all of my items were on point. I started with the shrimp ceviche & the fried calamari. My main entree was the chicharron en salsa verde. That translates to crispy sautéed pork with onions and cilantro topped with green tomatillo sauce served with white rice and warm tortillas. I was very satisfied with the portion size and the price paid. Our hostess Daniella was courteous and even gave the run down on how to make horchata at home. I appreciate it. It showed that she could relate to customers and that she enjoys a good drink too. Fair warning was given to patrons who were dining that the lights would be dimmed momentarily for an unsuspecting diner celebrating a birthday. It was a surprise for her indeed and her family/friends appreciated to cooperation & birthday singing from neighboring tables. There is an outdoor dining area if the weather permits. The servers were bustling w/those seating inside and outside during my visit. Not a cross face in the crowd; everything @ Sin Fronteras says see you next time.

We finally went to this place after returning to Annapolis 4 years ago. I had HUGE expectations from what I've heard and read about the place and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious but the Chili-con-queso (Cheese Nachos - or however you spell it) was the best ever!! We sat out in the bar area in the booths against the window. It was very lively and active on a Friday night. A small line formed a few times for people waiting to be seated. There is a larger room in the back with bigger tables. The bar was very crowded but the bartender (and owner) still found time to visit our table at least twice to make sure things were to our satisfaction!! We want to make this our regular Friday night dinner hang out!

The food is good but was seriously disappointed when I called in an order 15 minutes prior to arriving there only to find out my order had not been even been entered There was 1 (one) person in the entire restaurant. Seriously?! Then he wants to explain he had my number wrong, makes perfect sense. Therefore, if you place a to go order make sure they have the correct phone number because apparently they can't put in an order if the phone number is not correct.

A couple of weeks ago, I was out with friends lamenting about the lack of good Mexican restaurants in the area when a friend suggested that I try Sin Fronteras. I was surprised to learn of its location, as I'm frequently in the area but never noticed it before.....guess it pays to go back just one more block, huh? So on Saturday, after being beat up by the trainer, I decided to stop in and reward myself. They do have outdoor seating on the deck with umbrellas, but it was a little warm with a threat of rain, so I opted to go indoors. Inside was nothing fancy, but it was clean and colorful, and the staff were friendly and quick to seat me. I opted for the Pollo Tropical, and I can say that I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for something not deep fried or smothered in cheese. A juicy tender chicken breast covered with mango salsa and served with a side of rice......let me just say that if you're afraid of flavor and prefer food that is bland, this is not the place for you. But if you want something that's going to explode with flavor, then come on in! And how could I forget the chips and salsa? While the salsa was a little hotter than what I typically like, the flavor was fantastic, very different from anything I've had in any of the other places. To be honest, I wouldn't really call this place Mexican, although they do have some standard Mexican fare, but they have such a nice mix of Central American options too. I didn't try the margaritas, as it was only lunch and I was by myself, but my friend told me that I must go back and try them. Well, if I MUST..........

We visited this place based on the rating of yelp and this is an instance where it's way off base. The chips are an embarrassment to society as a whole as well as the salsa. Nasty to say the least. The chicken in the enchiladas had to have been cooked a week before they made them. You could floss your teeth with the strands of meat. The sauce was like any other run of the mill pseudo Latino food joint. Extremely underwhelmed and I'll chalk this up as a rare miss for yelp.

I've been on Yelp long enough to know that you can find some amazing tacos in places with less than no atmosphere. Still, Sin Fronteras features the biggest disconnect between the menu and the ambience that I've ever encountered. The food isn't just great, it's pretty sophisticated and incredibly varied for a strip-mall location with an interior that still looks only partly finished. The menu at Sin Fronteras is longer and more seafood-oriented than most Latin American places. I've only been once and so can't comment on most of the items, but that one visit convinced me that I'd enjoy just about anything I ordered because their sauces are just exceptional. I had the enchiladas with the best mole sauce I've ever tasted, hands down, and sampled the shrimp in garlic sauce that my companion ordered. Both were the kind of sauces that motivate you to use every last grain of rice to sop it up. The owner stopped by as we were finishing our meal (scanning the other reviews, I see that this isn't an uncommon experience) and emphasized the care they put into making the sauces ("Another half-hour and this would've been overdone"). He's from South Florida and the menu apparently reflects the mix of Latin cuisine found there, which makes sense given the variety of dishes. It wouldn't kill them to spruce up the interior a bit, but I'm not going to subtract a star for that. I'll be back any time I'm anywhere in the vicinity.

Well I did not expect Mexican food at this level in Annappolis! Boy I was wrong! This may look bad from the outside but inside is one of those hidden gems that we all search out. So if your a fan of authentic Mexican than stop as soon as possible, if you are not sure put on your adventure hats and make the trip. The Lamb Babacoa I indulged in was just right, a beautiful braise with a nice smokey heat, wished I was a passenger so I could have some Mezcal to go with it! My friend adverse to heat had the mariscada soup which she survived , and actually loved, though to much food for her, I could not leave a thing! Also the staff was great and owner present and invoked with his customers and staff. So on your next visit to the area and craving a Mexican fix stop here!

A+! Loved the whole experience. This place is a bit off the beaten path, but it's worth it. Exceptional service and exceptional dishes. We had fresh guacamole, fresh salsa, a veggie taco salad and a carnitas dish. As a vegetarian, the vegetable selection served with the taco salad was cooked just right and was so delicious.. freshly grilled asparagus! On a salad! The owner was there that evening and introduced himself and he was just a genuine pleasure and interested in his customers. Just truly an outstanding experience. We will be back ... probably too many times.

Ate here last night for dinner. Service was amazingly friendly. The owner greeted us outside the restaurant and guided us in to our table. He seemed genuinely excited to have us dining there for the first time. $10 margarita was strong and good. Beer prices were good. Boyfriend enjoyed his chimichanga. My shrimp fajitas were good, but the shrimp was way overlooked. That's really the only negative thing I have to say.

Went here for the first time on Saturday evening. It was a very early dinner but we were reassured since other people with kids were walking in ahead of us. It is tucked back off of Forest Drive. You'll miss it if you aren't looking for it. And it's a little dive-y on the outside. Bright and clean inside Friendly staff. We are looking forward to going back. It was very good. Chips and salsa were very fresh. Salsa wasn't hot enough for my hubby but it was perfect for me. Hubby got the ropa vieja and cleaned his plate. Said it was so good. He somehow missed the sandwiches and other things on the menu that I mentioned as we walked out. I got the chicken enchiladas in a mole sauce. Yum yum! So good. And the kid enjoyed rice and beans. We will definitely go back.

Ropa vieja and the Saltado are insanely good. I'd order extra rice and beans (casamiento) next time, so yummy. . Other reviewers raved about the guac...which was fresh but I wasn't blown away though. We got it medium and tasted no spice. If I were to order again, I would get spicy. But the Ropa vieja and Saltado steak were amazing. Definitely will be back!

Wonderful spicy shrimp ceviche. I love spice, but WOW! Great stuff though! Ropa veija was very good, well presented. I've had better, but not much better! Very very good. Chip n salsa was a perfect start to my meal. Salsa was fresh and had just the right amount of spice. I'll be back! Maybe tomorrow! Ha ha!

Excellent Latin food with a great staff friendly owner and outstanding service. Pollo cooked in paper is excellent, enchiladas con lomatillo sauce, baleados, all are fantastic. Margaritas are huge and the Guacamole appetizer tasty. Salsa excellent and so on. As you can see from other reviews this place is a no-brainer!

  • Christy F.

Wow, not sure if we hit this place on a bad night or what, but we were very disappointed with both the food and the service. The salsa was very watery and the chips were thicker than I like (and neither was refilled). I tried the balelas and I didn't particularly care for them. We didn't get a lot of refills on our drinks, but the cardinal sin of the wait staff was to put the flaming hot plate of fajitas directly in front of our grabby one-year-old. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the making of this Yelp review, but unfortunately, we won't be going back. I think we'll be sticking to the chain Tex-Mex places until we find a local purveyor we can rely on.

I went to this restaurant based upon the high scores it received on Yelp and while it was an okay dining experience it was hardly memorable. The service was excellent, the place clean though its décor was low overhead in nature. The décor is not of particular concern to me. The food however was just so-so. I have eaten much better Mexican / South American cuisine elsewhere in the Annapolis area and I was underwhelmed with what was on offer here. I tried the grilled calamari which was nicely done and the Peruvian steak strips dish which was okay. I am not trying to damn with faint praise, but how anyone would rate this place above average is beyond me. Saying all that, the prices were reasonable, the service good, but the food just average. I would not come here again because I know of one place far better located nearby where I have been several times.

I would give this place less than 1 star if possible. They had amazing Yelp reviews so we were excited to go. The salsa was completely flavorless. My margarita had a piece of steel wool in the ice cubes. My husband got the Cuban sandwich which he said was decent. My chicken chimichanga was bland. The service was awful ... She just pointed to the dining room when we walked in and our server came over a total of twice. Overall, not impressed and will not be returning.

Amazing Service Larger restaurant than you would think. You could bring a group of 12 up in that biz. They have a large supplementary dining room. Yes, it might be right next to a place called Parole Liquors, but trust me, it's worth a visit. I got the ropa vieja. It was good, although I think the meat could have used a little more time stewing. The plantains were cooked perfectly. The rice and beans was so so. Everything was super fresh, the portions were a great size. I would definitely visit again to try out some of their other stuff. A stones throw from the mass manufactured Annapolis Town Center, it's worth the trek off the beaten path.

Not the best place to get Spanish, Cuban, Mexican, or El Salvadorian food, but it'll do. Annapolis isn't necessarily a culinary destination, so I will be fair and give them a thumbs up for being the most reliable restaurant of this type of cuisine in the area. I'm still kind of confused and ask myself quite often if its a Mexican place. So I look at the menu and find ropa vieja (Cuban), lomo saltado (Peruvian), and chimichangas (Mexican), thus realizing that this is one of those "Latin/Spanish fusion" places. Ok, I'm not mad that they did this...it's fine. But I'm not going to give them the extra star for stellar Spanish/Latin fusion cuisine. The service is good/great depending on the time you choose to patronize this establishment. I've never had horrible food, but nothing that knocked my socks off either. If you're looking for decently flavorful Latin fusion cuisine, this is it for the Greater Annapolis area. They use sal, achiote, culantro, and limon in their seasoning repertoire, so I guess I will just have to concede and eat here again.

My wife and I stopped in here for dinner based solely on the yelp reviews. At first glance, we weren't sure of what we were getting ourselves into as the restaurant is not overly flashy or impressive. But once our appetizer arrived, we knew that the previous reviews were spot-on. The guacamole was freshly prepared after we ordered it. Our server asked us for our preferred level of heat and the guac recipe was adjusted accordingly. The owner stopped by as we were finishing it and explained that the avocados are brought in fresh from Guatemala and that's one of the main reasons the guac is so flavorful. It was the best we ever had! My wife ordered the Margarita Salmon while I chose the Peruvian Lomo Saltada. Both were delicious, flavorful and unique. The owner stopped by after the meal and again took great pride in explaining how the combination of the fresh ingredients yields the flavors that we were raving about. The meal came to around $46 - a very reasonable amount for the portion sizes and the quality of the food. The Annapolis location is almost 2 hours from home so we're going to try the Glen Burnie location soon to taste some of the different entree items. Five Stars because I'd gladly drive 1.5 hours to enjoy their delicious food again!

I travel to Annapolis on business and found this restaurant on yelp. I have enjoyed the food and the pleasant atmosphere. I have brought friends back with me to Sin Fronteras and have heard positive comments from them as well. The food is fresh and the dishes are appropriately spiced. It is a nice mix of Mexican with other Latin dishes.

The Ceviche is better than Jalapeños. The margaritas are honest. La Sopa Mariscada es Bonita. This place es comida real!!!

Too authentic for my taste. I'm used to Americanized Mexican food. HOWEVER, the drinks were super tasty!

Amazing dinner! Fresh guacamole, solid margaritas, and delcious dinner. Pollo barbacoa, baleadas, enchiladas w/ tomatillo. Great service, terrific experience. Would go here before any other restaurant in the area.

The service was friendly but slow and not attentive. But that wasn't enough to give low ratings. The food was great. The atmosphere was cozy and simple. I would recommend this to everyone to at least give them a try and make your own opinion. There are lots of little things they can do for improvement. But down to the basics. I was there for good food and that's what I got. I will be back again.

Came here after a beach trip. Friends were all beachy and sandy but we didn't feel out of place. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. We ordered guacamole to start and then chimichangas, enchiladas, carne asada and one other dish. They were all very yummy. Portions are normal sized. Not too big, not too small. Great prices for quality of food. Only complaint is the service. We arrived at around 8:45 and they really seemed like they were rushing. They asked a friend if he was done eating and then took his plate away before he could respond. He still had salad on his plate. They also were very slow to refill our water and we had to remind them.

Not sure why this place got such rave reviews and 4.5 stars. To me, it's just a decent Hispanic food restaurant, but with stale chips and sticky bathroom floors. The decor of the restaurant needs a refresh, including the dining tables and chairs. Recommend: - Enchiladas with tomatillo sauce had good flavor, including the sauce - Margaritas on the rocks with salt had a good kick to it! Worth the money Do not recommend: - Crispy pork: Pork itself was very dry, even though it came with a delicious sauce The service was great and the restaurant owner came by to say hi. That was a nice touch. Bottom line - I would go back for the margaritas and enchiladas.

I had always liked Sin Fronteras restaurant in Annapolis but it may be a very long time before they see me again. While the atmosphere is sparse the food is good (for Annapolis), but the service was offensively poor Saturday night. Naturally, it was a comedy of errors. I asked for beans to accompany my rice, but instead they just didn't give me the rice at all. I was actively eating the chips and salsa together with my entree but they snatched them away without asking (I wanted the chips for the beans since they didn't give me the rice.) The server tried to take my plate three times (and a busser tried once) while my friend was still eating. It may not be fine dining, but that is just the most basic service etiquette around. Obviously, the repeated attempts to clear early made my friend feel awkward as if eating too slow, which is exactly why all plates are cleared at the same time, period. Correct service is correct service; it does not matter if you're fine dining or a truck stop. I was 100% planning to have another drink and dessert, but as soon as they finally snatched my plate away they dropped the check, which we had not requested. (It was before 9:30pm on a Saturday night--they weren't waiting to close or waiting to seat other tables.) We split the bill but my friend insisted on paying the tip (over 20% despite the terrible service). Yet for their craptacular service they added a $14 tip to my ($34) tab. Tried to call them but they have the wrong area code on their own receipt. But, hey, I did have a lovely cocktail and dessert a couple blocks away at Jalapeños after being driven away. Sigh. Called the bank to dispute the charge, but the restaurant has lost a lot more than the $14 unauthorized charge.

Totally relied on Yelp for this one. I was looking for a Mexican place off of Route 50 and I decided on this one. Great reviews on yelp so how could I go wrong. Yep did not disappoint as the food was very authentic and very tasty. Great service and the food was very well prepared. It beats a chain restaurant any day. Try it you will like it.

Staff, food, and atmosphere is top notch here. The food is authentic and is delicious. Tucked away in an off-beat area of Annapolis but definitely worth trying out. I always visit when back in town.

I don't get the hype about this place. My boyfriend and I are both foodies and we were quite disappointed with our meals here. The Chicharrones he ordered were not the authentic kind, as we were told prior to ordering. I had the chicken in ranchero sauce, it totally lacked flavor, the chicken was very dry. Both meals came out cold. The place is loud and floors are extremely slippery. The Margaritas were excellent.

A shout out to Sin Fronteras in Glen Burnie. Sandwiched between Mission BBQ and Outback, it's the best choice by far. Food is fresh and interesting. Try something with the yucca. Delicious!

Love love love this place. Very casual, very laid back, very loud. Doesn't seem so organized with the service but gentle reminders and you are back in. The owner keeps a watchful eye too. The food is hands down, off the charts, great. The region of Mexico is authentic and the flavors are like nothing I've had before locally. We started with the guacamole, shrimp ceviche, and chile con queso dip. They asked about the desired spice level for the guacamole. And it was made to our order. The queso was also excellent. The ceviche was good but, in hindsight, I would save the room for the next course. For my main, I got the Margherita salmon with asparagus but substituted black beans for the mashed potatoes. OMG amazing! I would have a hard time ordering something different in the future. The Margaritas should come with a warning. Although there is parking, seriously don't even think of driving and drinking these. We were there on a Saturday night. My only complaint would be that it closed too early. And when we went to order dessert, the waiter said the kitchen had already closed (with no warning!). Otherwise it would have been a perfect 5 star experience. The food is definitely 5 star!

I have never had such amazing Chili Releno's! Love this restaurant! The owner makes you feel welcome! The outdoor deck is a great place to enjoy the sun and have a margarita! Tastes like family recipes! I picked up carryout for the first time from Sin Fronteras Cafe tonight. It was scrumpteous! I am mad at myself for wasting so much money on franchise restaurant take out for so long! Wish I had found it sooner!

This place is fantastic!!! First time visiting today, we were treated to a grand welcome from the owner himself. My wife had the carne asada burrito, leaving me to try the Hondurian specialty, the Baleada. It was awesome. The atmosphere is cozy, the wait staff was extremely friendly, and thankful for our business. We've traveled Forest Ave for many years, and never knew this jewel existed. Glad we found it. Looking forward to warmer weather so we can enjoy a feast outside on their deck.

My boyfriend is from Texas, so he was REALLY wary of this place. He just hasn't had great Mexican food this far north. Well, the queso dip definitely pleased him (and me!!). It wasn't better than what he's had back home, but we both loved it. Next up, the enchiladas. He ordered the chicken enchiladas with tomatillo sauce and he was blown away. Not only were they some of the best enchiladas he's had outside of Texas, but he says they're some of the best enchiladas he's ever had. I ordered the steak fajitas and OMG!! I could eat those every day!! The meat is heavily seasoned, but not overpowering. It's cooked up and served in a cast iron skillet with plenty of flavorful crust from the seasoning and peppers/onions. We've been back numerous times and we typically order the same thing. This last time, my boyfriend ordered the mole sauce for his enchiladas and was again very happy. He thinks he likes it more than the tomatillo sauce. I can't bring myself to order anything other than my beloved steak fajitas. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because we brought my boyfriend's brother here and he ordered a Cuban sandwich, which he said was rather bland. He didn't elaborate, but this place keeps my boyfriend and I coming back about once a week!

This is probably my new favorite restaurant in Annapolis. The staff was very personable and the food was very favorable. For an app, we got the yucca that came with these fried pork balls. some of the folks hasn't tried yucca, which is why we got it, but the pork was amazing. They took marinated pork shoulder and slow cooked it at 250 until it just started to fall apart, then cut it into medallions and fried those. It was so delicious.

Service was a bit slow when we were first seated on this busy Friday night but things got better once the margarita arrived in its own special bathtub sized glass. The chips and salsa were very nice as a starter. The ceviche appetizer was spicy as requested. I thoroughly enjoyed the steak with yuca and rice. Excellent! Will return for sure.

I go for the guacamole which is fresh and full of flavor. Everyone I've ever gone with have loved their dishes whether they were familiar with the menu or just picking a random item. The clientele is varies greatly between those just looking for a bar, just craving some tex-mex (chips and salsa sorts), and people looking for an authentic latin american menu for nostalgia's sake. Next to a less-than-welcoming liquor store that guards its parking spaces but worth the hassle. Oh, and as mentioned in other posts, the owner has checked in at my table every time. Full disclosure: I know a guy or two that knows the owner, but then again, he's like Kevin Bacon; the owner knows somebody that you know.

Awesome experience. I had the enchiladas with tomatillo and mole, it was GREAT! My husband got the carne asada burrito and said it was ALMOST a as good as the ones in California (that's a compliment coming from him). We don't live close, but will definitely be back if we're close.

Great find. Might not look like it from the outside but this place is worth the visit. Good service. Chile con queso is a meal onto itself. Honduran flavor gives the menu an unique flavor - different from your traditional tex mex spot.

  • Christine C.

We love the food!!! The service was also great!! The dining room and bathroom were average/mediocre. But the food really makes up for it. The menu is just extensive enough. I had Honduran Baleadas. It was a flour tortilla with beans, meat, avocado, cheese inside. Very tasty! We also enjoyed some garlic shrimp for appetizer. It was really really good too!!! The boys had quesdillas and the cheese was of great quality. We will be returning soon.

Wow... Sin Fronteras Cafe is probably the best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to thus far. I loved it... A LOT! I don't even know where to begin... Service? Exceptional. We had several wait staff treating us like royalty. The manager came out to ask us how we were doing. Hours? Long. 7 days a week, 11 AM to 10 PM. Parking? Check. Large parking lot. Seating? Plenty. Two sections. A cozy smaller room by the bar, and a spacious second room for larger parties. Appetizers? Fantastic. Definitely get the guacamole. You won't regret it. Entrees? Delicious. Everything is good, but if I had to pick one, it'd be the Pascado Oaxaca -- a grilled Tilapia fillet with amazing cream sauce. Dessert? Perfect. Check out the flan. The taste and consistency are out of the world. Price? Reasonable. Very much so. You? Eat here. Please.

I was searching curiously on my yelp app for cuban food relatively close to home. Up popped Sin Fronteras Cafe. Reviews were good and they had exactly what I was looking for: Ropa Vieja. So I grabbed my foodie partner and out we went. Place was as previously described, hard to spot locale next to a liquor store so no surprises there. But it was pretty busy which is a good sign to me. We were a little concerned at first as the chips and salsa were simply not very good. The salsa was ok but the chips were severely lacking. Cold, not salted, hard and oily. My fear of disappointment was about to set in. The margarita was good though and so was the sangria so we skipped the chips and ordered our meals. Ropa Vieja for me. Delicious! The beef was tender and well seasoned. Plantains sliced on the bias, not too thin, not too thick, fried to their natural soft, sweetness. Just like my ex-husband used to make :) I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of my meal. Pescado Oaxaca for my pal. Again another score! The fish was moist and flaky covered in a wine and pepper sauce with bits of ham that added just the right amount of saltiness. Rice and beans were good and overall both dishes were a hit. The owner is a dear. Personable and friendly. The exact touch one likes to find when dining at small, local establishment. My friend and I definitely agreed we had found a keeper and will be back to sample more of the fresh and unique dishes on the menu.

My only complaint about this little hidden restaurant is it's location and the parking facilities. It is innocently tucked behind a dive of a liquor store in a less than mediocre retail building .The parking lot and conditions are simply pathetic compared to most small shopping centers . Beyond that, I consider this place a "diamond in the rough'. The Mexican cuisine was very good along with the above average service. I've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants in the area with terrible service compared to this place. The Owner/ Manager was very cordial and sincerely asked us how everything was. The prices are very reasonable, but we thought the beer, wine and liquor for the atmosphere was a bit pricey. The dining area is average at best , but the bar and outside wood deck/ seating area is a big improvement and added a positive touch. We recommend this restaurant if you like good Mexican food.

I've only been here once, today, but I had such a great experience that it deserves all 5 stars. The waiter was very attentive and the owner/manager checked on us a few times to ensure we were having a great experience. We ordered the quesadilla with shrimp and chorizo and it was DELISH! It was a bit messy to eat it with your hands, but SO flavorful. For my entree, I ordered the Margarita Salmon dish, which was yummy. I cannot remember what my friend ordered, but she demolished it and was very satisfied. I left my car at the parking lot and rode around with my friend in her car. When we came back to pick up my car, the lot was full because everyone was in the restaurant to get their fix. It is clear that the food is in high demand. I will definitely visit this restaurant at this location again.

So there is this new, giant corporate mall-complex nearby that I drove through first trying to find Sin Fronteras Cafe. Obviously that isn't where Sin Fronteras Cafe is located. It is nearby in a rundown strip mall that is shares with a liquor store that gave me second thoughts about eating there once I saw. But I trusted these glowing Yelp reviews and I am glad I did. This is a place I would have never had the chance to eat at had Yelp not existed. I was just in town for a wedding and I probably would have grabbed some forgetful lunch from Chipotle had I not had Yelp (no disrespect to Chipotle). But instead I got to eat at Sin Fronteras Cafe, a place I am writing a review for 2 years after eating there because the food was so unforgettable. I am a vegetarian, so I got a vegetarian burrito. I don't remember if it was on the menu or if I had to ask for it special. Either way, it was amazing. I wish I could review other menu items, but I was only able to eat here once. My memory is a bit faded, but I remember the burrito being very original. It had some unique ingredients or sauces that set it apart from what you would get anywhere else. My guess is that it's because Sin Fronteras Cafe isn't a strictly Mexican food joint but really a broadly Latin American restaurant. In any case, go there yourself and bring along your vegetarian friends to try the vegetarian burrito they make there. I certainly hope they have it on the menu, it would be a shame if I was the only one to have the chance to have eaten it! EDIT: Apparently I've reviewed this place before. Just goes to show how often I come to be thinking about how great the food was that one time at Sin Fronteras. I need an excuse to drive out there and eat there again!

Just ate here for the first time. I had Chicharones en Salsa Verde which was fantastic! The special Salsa Verde was the best I have ever had. Wife and daughter had enchiladas with mole and with green sauce. They said they were excellent. Also had Chile con Queso appetizer which was also good with the bits of chorizo in it. I recommend this place!

Having visited several times we haven't encountered a dud from the menu yet. Not exactly your standard "Mexican Restaurant" fare as it has a lot of influences from Central American regions. They take great pains to make everything fresh and you can taste it in the dishes. The owner is happy to chat with you about the ingredients and the emphasis on the regional sauces. The salmon and tuna dishes were particular noteworthy on our last outing. Do yourself a favor and drop in for dinner. Everyone we have introduced to the place are now return customers.

Being from California, this is not the best latin food I've had in my life, however it is the best I've had in the Annapolis area. The Ceviche, Pollo a la barbacoa, Chicharron en salsa Verde, and the Seared Tuna are my favorites from the menu, although I've had quite a few other dishes that were good as well. Food wise, the only thing I would improve upon is their chips, which are very heavy and greasy. Service can be hit or miss depending on how busy the restaurant is and what room you're seated in, but it's never been awful. My friends have reported inconsistencies with the strength of the Margaritas here, I've always found them to be quite strong enough!

Friendly fresh fun fantastic food. Guacamole is smooth and creamy. Give it a quick squeeze of lime and you experience perfection. The salads are crisp and large portions. The blackened salmon could have had a bit more heat. We have eaten here many many times including hosting many celebrations with friends and family who instantly become repeat fans. The chicken dishes are delicious and taste as if the chicken was slow cooked and perfectly spiced. You can't go wrong here.

Great food. This place has all the classic Latin American staples and they do them all really well. Reasonably priced. The inside was kinda small and from the outside it doesn't look like much but the food is pretty good.

We dined alfresco, and traffic on the ave was minimum and the weather wonderful. Really a 5 star lunch but the oil in the fryer was old and so the tortillas and the chips on the Cuban tasted off. Amazing service and food less the fryer, will go back! PS Pisco Sour rocks

We've been several times for lunch and dinner, as well as get carry out for dinner. The food is always amazing and homemade. They have a salmon salad that will make you rethink how good a salad can be. The owner has come out every time we've been there to check on us acne make sure we're enjoying our meal. An absolute gem.

I've yet to eat a bad meal here--and I've tried numerous dishes. The chicharonnes are a favorite. This is a real restaurant with actual cooking happening in the kitchen. Not a national chain like Paladar or Chevy's where pre-made food is merely assembled. It's a family-run restaurant and family friendly. (Don't be deterred by the liquor store next door.) Home-style Mexican and Latin food.

Don't know what the big deal is with this place. Have only been there once, I thought it was overpriced, not a great location, had no ambiance and the food was good but not great. I had the chicken enchilada with mole sauce and my wife had something called balleada, I think. My dinner was good but not 4.5 stars good, and hers was very bland and dry. Perhaps we're just spoiled having lived in South Florida and eaten at a restaurant called La Bamba for so long. Nothing around here compares so far. I'll give this place another try one day, maybe it's just what we ordered. The quest for a great Mexican / Central American / Spanish restaurant continues. So far, Sin Fronteras and Christopher's have not impressed.

  • Christopher R.

Man this place is ridiculously good. Its located next to a liquor store and the place isn't super fancy, but don't let that fool you. The food is fantastic! The first time I went I played it safe and got Enchiladas with mole sauce. It was good, but like I said I played it safe. The next time I went I ordered ropa vieja and it was out of this world. I also ordered chicken ranchero for my children which was excellent. Things were going so well that had a margarita grande as well. It was $8.99 which seemed expensive in comparison with all of their other food, but it was good, large and probably not out of line with what other places charge in the area. To top it off I ordered mango bread pudding. I wasn't expecting much because I had already been fully impressed and just figured the desert would be where I might get let down slightly. But no. This bread pudding was....well just go and order it and you will thank me I promise. I'm giving this 5 stars because its the excellent value. You might able to find a fancier place, but you find better value than this restaurant. This place will be a new mainstay for me and my family.

I found this gem thanks to Yelp, and what a find indeed. Straight to the food: I am that guy who creates my own dishes so it's always nice when places accommodate. I read all about their Mole sauce but saw their tomatillo sauce listed as "our famous tomatillo sauce" on the menu. You can imagine my joy when they green lighted my creation of 1 chicken, 1 beef, and 1 carnitas with both sauces; I damn near jumped out of my seat. One of the best dishes I have had in a while and I will be putting some miles on my car to visit this small but mighty Annapolis restaurant all the way from DC.

Have been frequenting about once a month for the last two years. Sorry to report however that while the renovations have been a nice touch the food has in fact suffered. The serving size has been reduced and the overall quality of the food has lowered including the sides which accompany your meal. Drinks have also suffered with the Margaritas and Pisco sours turning watery lately. That said the food is still better than most Mexican in the area so don't let the slightly sketchy surroundings dissuade you from giving it a shot. I hope this is just a bump in the road because the food is worth the hype if they're on their game.

The food was fantastic! Okay- so the parking lot is a little rough and the exterior of the building isn't anything fancy... but believe me, you are coming here for the delicious food and a personal experience. I went to this place based on word of mouth and the owner greeted us at the door. After a delicious chicken entree (with sweet mango sauce) the owner came by to ensure that we were having a good time. Normally I wouldnt like this because, at many chain-restaurants, the manager is required to come by and check on you... not because they really care about how your experience is going... they are checking on the help. - Not the case here, the owner was genuinely interested in our experience and was having a blaster and even helping out the staff with clearing tables and and filling drinks. I am definitely going back again very soon!

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night and it was pretty full. Both my boyfriend and I ordered chimichangas and they were delicious. The only problem I had was that we were ignored when we walked in the door for 15 minutes, as soon as someone talked to us finally we were immediately seated and had no other problems with the service. This place is delicious and affordable and I would definitely eat here again.

Absolutely LOVE this place. Annapolis has a number of quality Hispanic dining choices these days, with the upscale Jalapenos, always strong Mexican Cafe, and haute hipster Paladar, but our go-to home run hitter continues to be unassuming Sin Fronteras. The name means "Without Borders", which is totally their model. There's Mexican, Cuban, Central and South American options on the menu, featuring seafood, steaks, pork, and more, and so far, everything has been exceptional. Even my Havana, Cuba-born father gave it his blessing, and he can be pretty discerning. This is no "hey, let's be Spanish this week", flavor of the month type of place; it's the real deal. We've been several times now, and always share entrees and apps tapas-style. The Peruvian Saltado Steak remains my favorite, with the Ropa Vieja a close second. Spicy Guacamole is excellent, but make sure you like spicy. They don't play. The Shrimp Ceviche is loaded with the good stuff, and makes a perfect light and healthy lunch. And the Calamari is flash-fried (or grilled) and fresh, with no rubbery texture, and is served with green tomatillo sauce for dipping, unlike the boring canned marinara that so many other places include. Cuban sandwich is as good as I've had outside of Miami. For the picky, their Fajitas are fantastic. Haven't had the Tacos, but we can only assume they're of the same quality. There's a Taco Salad on the menu too. On the cocktail side, the mojitos and margaritas are fresh and well-poured, and they have a great Latino beer menu as well. In the bar itself, seems there's always a futbol game on the big screen. Sin Fronteras can get packed on weekend nights (and they don't take reservations), and loud, and can be an issue for folks with hearing difficulties. Service is full of personality but sometimes can be a bit slow on weekend nights, so it's best to just ease back, chill, and enjoy the moment (don't try to play "Beat the Clock" and get in and out for dinner in time to make the movie on a Friday or Saturday night. You'll almost certainly lose.) The owner is super-friendly, and always swings by the table to say hello and check in on the experience. Not a drive-by, but an actual conversation. DATE NOTE: If you're trying to impress a first date, and this person is more about the bling than the actual fare, Sin Fronteras does not give you the best option of getting to that second date (and seriously, who wants to be with THAT kind of shallow person anyway??). However, if you aim to dazzle them with your worldly knowledge of fine food in a unique, off-the-beaten path place that's not a chain and is (thankfully) out of the spotlight, you're in good hands.

This is an awesome place. The food, the people, everything. I recommend this place 100%. In my case I ordered "chicharron en salsa Verde" the spicy sauce is just perfect. My wife got tuna, and what can I say... Delicious. The margarita is the best in that town. We went there in a big party with 4 kids and the place is big. So no problem with that

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I can't get enough of their Queso with Chips! Yum! The food is always delicious. Everything seems Fresh upon hitting the table! Drinks are yummy. It's a great lunch spot for my girlfriends and I to meet up and connect and feel so relaxed. Very casual environment. There have a bar too and TV's for major games and events going on.. I go for the FOOD! so yummy!

Sin Fronteras has become a family favorite! The staff welcomes you like family & is always friendly. Their guacamole is always fresh & can be adjusted to your preferred level of spice. My 2 go-to meals are the yucca con chicharon (love the crispy pork) and the ropa vieja (the beef melts in your mouth). My daughter always gets the baleadas. I'm a big margarita fan and theirs are my favorite. You go there once & it will become a habit!

Every time my family and I visited this place we were greeted by Manager right from the door. the food is awesome as well as service. This is by far the best Latino food place in Annapolis. Keep up the good work.

One of my go to spots. I love supporting a small locally owned restaurant. The owner is always around and loves the costumers feed back. The out door seating is great even if it is in a poor location. Food taste great, with a beautiful presentation and the cost is very reasonable for large portions. I only have a few complaints. The parking lot is bad. There is no happy hour and there is only one TV at the bar although the TV is huge and always has something great on. I think that this owner and staff could do so much more at another location. If they had a better space with the same menu and staff they would have great success.

Excelente! The atmosphere is friendly and nicely decorated. The service is attentive without being part of the meal, and the owner is equally caring and helpful about what to order and explaining the various menu items. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. This is a gem and a definite repeat. The only minor negative is that parking can get challenging on a busy night.

I went there August 2013 for the first time. The owner says the outdoor deck has been there just a month. The place was jumping because the food is excellent. Had dinner there a second time on September 13, 2013. I arrived around 5:30pm and watched the place fill up as I was enjoying my dinner. While this is not a fancy place, people really like coming here to have fun and to eat some really good food.

Big delicious burritos. Big servings. Friendly staff. Margaritas, however, was mehhhh... so-so...

This place is legit and probably one of the best places in Annapolis. We've been here several times and have never had a bad experience. The food is always good and the service is friendly. The chicharron en salsa verde is a must. So, so good. I always want to try something else, but I can never get myself to do it because it's just too good. This isn't the same kind of Mexican food you'll get from somewhere like California, but it doesn't try to be.

LOVE, love, love the Margarita Salmon! So delicious! Must try! The queso is also wonderful!

This is one of the best places to eat in Annapolis. The mole sauce is made from scratch and phenomenal with the enchiladas. The food is fresh and authentic which comes through and is absolutely divine. The Chile Relleno was the best part of the meal, the tomatillo sauce was delicious, a little spicy but I absolutely loved it. I highly recommend it for anyone that likes authentic South American cuisine and cannot wait to go again! It is affordable and you get plenty with your portions.

Good service and good guacamole - although I did add a little salt and pepper. Margarita was ok, but a little overpriced. I think Mexican Cafe has better Margaritas.

You absolutely must eat the fried chicken with the sauce on it. It is perfect, if people knew this place was here you would need Reservations! I eat all over the united states and this is the best place. Umbrellas and dinner on the deck!

Definitely one of the more authentic latin food places around. Not too pricey but some items can break the bank. The ceviche and guacamole is great for appetizers, and they're a pretty decent serving size for two. I had the chimichangas which were probably some of the best i've had on the east coast. It's a secluded and hidden part of Annapolis/Parole area, by a liquor store but don't let that fool you. Sometimes location isn't everything. Workers are friendly and it's a simple kind of restaurant.

A combination of word-of-mouth and Yelp reviews finally got the wife and I to pack up the rug monkeys and head down to Annapolis to give Sin Fronteras a try. Boy, are we glad we did. Authentic, high-quality food served by friendly folks for reasonable prices - what's not to like? While the strip mall it's in is a little on the run-down side, the biggest drawback to the location is simply getting out of the parking lot. Otherwise, it's just a nondescript strip mall within viewing distance of the newish Parole town center complex. The staff is quite friendly and the owner (Walter) seems to know all the regulars and came to every table to ask how things were, and even stayed with me to chat about the finer points of Ropa Vieja. But let's talk about the food, shall we? To include cocktails, of course. We started with a mojito, a margarita, and two Shirley Temples for the carpet primates. The margarita was big and strong; classic flavor and high quality. The mojito was made with coconut rum - unusual but really, really tasty. Their sangria is also top notch. We got the guacamole (mild, for the kids) and it was great - obviously freshly squooshed in the kitchen - filled with herbs and onions and huge chunks of avocado. The chips and salsa were good too; the salsa is mild and crowd-friendly; the chips are warm, crunchy, and not overly salted. For the main course, I got the baleadas (one chorizo, one chicken). I've never had these before, and I can wholeheartedly recommend the chicken as it melded well with the light, fluffy nature of the dish. The chorizo was tasty but a little too dense when accompanying the cream and avocado within. My wife got what I can only call The Giant Pork Chop Covered In Goodness. The chef knows how to cook pork! It's marinated in citrus and spices, then grilled and covered with a wonderful sauce and set of toppings. If you like pork, this is a dish that's not to be missed. As usual, the kids got quesadillas, which were indeed round and filled with cheese. They also love black beans, so we ordered two sides for them. They make theirs with rosemary which adds an interesting depth to them; not a combination I would have ever thought of, but it works. Do not miss this place. It's certainly some of the best Mexican / South American food we've had! It's in the process of being discovered, and I think they'll maintain their quality and friendliness as they grow - it just may become really hard to get a table!

This place deserves no less than 5 stars. Absolutely amazing food. Very fresh and very flavorful! The owner greeted us after realizing it was our first time here and right from the start I realized this place was a hidden gem. I'm from Houston where I'm no stranger to great Latin food but this place may take the cake as one of my favorites. I had the margarita salmon and my dad had the ropa vieja. Both were excellent!!!

I have to admit to being a bit of a "judge-a-book-by-its-cover" kind of guy as restaurants go, so it was always easy to pass this place with its nondescript, generic storefront look without a second glance. Being a California transplant with a love of good Mexican food, however, I'm glad I finally took the chance. You've got a love a place where the owner cares enough and has enough class to greet you at the door, ask if this is your first visit, tells you a little bit about his restaurant, and then leads you to your table. It's a comfortable, laid-back kind of place with its brightly-colored, Mexican cantina color scheme. I loved the vibe of the front room where the bar is, and the TV's set to the game of the day. Belly up to the bar if you just want to have a drink and take in the game, or grab one of the many tables in the same room if you just want to grab a bite in the company of the cheerful crowd. The large dining room in back is quieter if that's what you're after. The GF and I weren't that hungry, so mostly we picked things off the appetizer menu. Everything we had was fresh, well-prepared, and delicious. The service was friendly and efficient. The menu has a great selection of items from Mexico and points south, and I look forward to going back when we have a bigger appetite, and time to try their margaritas. Highly recommend this place.

I am a relleno fffffreak. Often they are an excuse for fried cheese, but in their full expression you get a plump, flavorful poblano in light, fluffy egg batter and some tasty sauce, stuffed with cheese. Here they offer a choice of chicken or vegetarian - I ordered vegetarian - it was all of the above plus stuffed with a delicious hash of julienned vegetables (onion, pepper, carrot) with a not-overwhelming amount of cheese, smothered in a tangy tomatillo sauce drizzled with crema. My husband had chicken enchiladas mole, and bother were served with casamiento - the marriage of rice and beans -- very tasty, not an afterthought. The mole was rich, complex and strong. They have outdoor seating, which would have been nice, but it's pleasant enough indoors. Good salsa and warm chips - attentive service -- plopped down in a very unprepossessing location -- a good find! Highly recommend.

We went here to celebrate my husband's birthday tonight after reading the great reviews this place has received on here. Sin Fronteras has a laid back feel to it and the owner and staff are very welcoming. We had the Shrimp Ceviche appetizer which was very flavorful and fresh. I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas with the Tomatillo sauce and they were outstanding. The chicken was the absolute best I've ever had in an enchilada and the Tomatillo sauce was very mild but delicious. My husband had the Chile Relleno which he devoured and said was excellent. We were definitely impressed and will be spreading the word about Sin Fronteras!

Living in Arnold, I thought I had heard of just about every restaurant in the Annapolis area. To my surprise a co-worker suggested this place one night when we decided to meet for drinks. I LOVE Mexican food so was A-okay with the choice. I knew where it was so headed over after work. At first glance you might be a little turned off. It is in a strip mall, next to a liquor store. Not the greatest clientele visiting later in the evening... but thankfully when I walked inside I felt a million times better. Although the décor was a little dated.. And frankly, there wasn't much of it. I was immediately greeted with smiles and waves from all the servers. I arrived early so sat in the back as I waited for my friend. I ordered a house margarita which was amazing. Not too sweet. Not too big, and the price was just right. They brought over chips and salsa which was delicious. When my friend arrived the owner came over to ask where we had heard about his restaurant. He said he was from Miami and everything on the menu was fresh and made right on the location. They make everything new each day. Not only did it have mexican on the menu there were other latin flavors as well. Everything looked amazing. He brought us over their specialty appetizer (I forget the name) a tartar of shrimp/seafood served with crackers. It was wonderful. I opted for the Ropa Vieja, which was seasoned to perfection. There was a large portion of food that I could barely finish. I loved the atmosphere and the people that worked here. They treated us well and I will definitely be back. Such a hidden gem for the area!

Great Mexican food in Annapolis! Must try the fried calamari and the baked chicken dish. Oh and I you order their extra spicy salsa, it will be the spiciest you've ever tasted! It's also cooked which made it interesting.

Came for lunch. Sat at the bar. World cup game on with announcers speaking spanish. Enhanced the latino atmosphere. Have dined here several times and always impressed with the mex-latino cuisine. A basket of fresh cooked tortillo chips was promptly brought with the side of salsa. Addictive. Decided to try the Acupulco salad. They happily allowed me to substitute the blackened salmon with the Margarita Salmon which is one of my favorite dinner entrees. The salmon is marinated in tequila, fresh lime juice and spices then cooked with garlic and chopped tomatos. The salad consists of fresh greens, sliced avocado, cucumbers, tomato wedges, montery cheese and topped with a generous portion of the delectible Margarita Salmon. Fabulous. A pair of small skinny roasted peppers added a little smokiness to the flavors. This salmon recipe is one of my all time favorites. The owner, Walter, informed me that they own this recipe. It is that original and unique. Delicioso.

Sat outdoors on a lovely day. Yelp reviews steered me here and it did not disappoint. Good portion size and tasty. Had the Cuban sandwich which didn't look the part (this wasn't greasy) but sure was delicious. For someone that doesn't like pickles to really enjoy them on this sandwich says something. Owner is nice and was interested in talking about the restaurant and where we heard about it. I'd definitely go back If I was was up that way again. I hope I am.

In going 5 stars because I know all the food was fresh, the service was good, and everything was tasty. Started with 2 fish tacos. Not the best, and not a ton of filling, but it was fresh and tasty, and I liked the bonus salsas I got with it. My main was a Latin American version of a quesadilla with chicken and avocado. Very tasty. My friends enjoyed their dishes too (Mango chicken, , chimichanga, chcikken in parchment. Everything was a little pricier than I expected, but not outrageous.chicken

I'm adding star because they built an outdoor patio and it's great for those romantic spring and fall nights. Unfortunately it's built close to the road so it's definitely not there for the scenery. You get a view of the awful Parole center across the street so you can laugh at the poor bastards stuck eating terrible food at Cadillac Ranch. They could stand to put in a few shrubs or begonias but it's showing promise and the service is just as good on the patio as inside.

Overall a really good lunch, here's the notes: - This was my first time visiting, so this review is always subject to change on a s subsequent visit. - I ordered the Chicharron en salsa Verde. It was a wonderful dish with perfectly cooked pork in a delicious tomatillio sauce with rice. Plenty of bright flavors and the pork was nearly fork tender. My lunch partner had a chicken dish and was similarly pleased. -The owner/ manager came over to greet us and was very pleasant as well as concerned to make sure we aware of some new menu items and new things to try. -Décor is nothing special. -Chips and salsa are served as is chilled water. The salsa was delicious, but the chips seemed a little stale. Drinks were brought quickly and kept filled. -The menu pretty expansive so there's a lot of good looking options. -My friend and I sat and talked for about thirty minutes after finishing, at no point did we feel rushed to leave. -My only downside is price. I don't know if there's a separate portion size for lunch and dinner, but I didn't feel like it was a great value for the price. Frankly I was still a little hungry when I left and that's with a $14 entrée. Maybe they serve larger portions at dinner and just charge the same price? It wasn't expensive, but I expected a little more food on the plate for the price.

Pictures & reviews here on yelp are far better than the food we had on 4/05/14 around 8pm. The red house sangria tasted like the skin of a lemon, so much so that there was no other identifiable flavor to it. Chips were stale with bland salsa. The queso appetizer dip literally tasted like pure cheese wiz, was not served hot, and became like a gummy paste within a few short minutes. We barely ate any of it before the server took it away, never inquiring if everything was fine with it. Mussels from the steamed mussels app tasted VERY freezer burned so much so that we also didn't eat much of it after having encountered an ice cold one while the toast they came with was tasty. Beef in the ropa viejo dish was also definitely freezer burned which was perplexing why it took so long for everything to arrive to the table given being frozen and reheated likely in a microwave. Also the meat was pretty flavorless. The margarita salmon was decent but would have been better if the mashed potatoes it came with weren't frozen in the middle. The house margarita was tasty but generally the food & service were so bad I doubt I would return

Huge portions! If you are looking for a large quality meal, this is the place for you. This is probably one of the best places in the area for Mexican food. No horchata though...but I'll let it slide because they have awesome guacamole. Great left overs! Which is good because there was no way I was going to finish it all in one sitting. I had a sea food soup that was amazing! The flavors were great and the sea food was fresh. Although I'm not a fan of tilapia, the tilapia in this soup was actually not too bad. The owner came by and personally asked us what we thought. That was awesome. I felt bad because I didn't finish my food, but honestly, there was too much of it! It can get crowded on Friday and when it does the parking lot gets crowded and chaotic...there are no markings. They share a parking lot with a liquor store..so the bad parking jobs aren't solely from the restaurant customers.

I got the steak with rice. It was actually really good, spicy, flavorful. I was surprised. Guac was yummy. I had a bite of the chimichangas and altho spicy, it had good flavor. My friend had enchilada with mole sauce and said it was good, she would have preferred it was spicier. Said the Mole was very flavorful. Over all good experience, good service as well, but it was a tad on the expensive side.

I rarely give out five-star reviews, and this really isn't a five-star restaurant if you think that five stars means a nice place to take your date for prom. But to me, five stars means that the food was something better than I've had anywhere, remarkable, something that I haven't stopped thinking about since I left, and I'm planning a return visit in two days. We're not from around here, but we're in town for a few days, and this place appeared to be a Yelp highlight, so we tried it. Phenomenal. The service was super friendly, but the Peruvian steak served over fries was sensational. The mole sauce served with my wife's enchiladas was bold and delightful. There's nothing frozen here. Everything is cooked fresh. This place rocks. Come here. Come here often.

Again Yelp comes thru. Every now and then you find a place that just surprises you. Don't go by the outside looks of this place. It is right next to a low-end liquor store in a gravelly (kind of) parking lot. It has a nice patio outside but it is right on the road so I wouldn't find that great as it is near a pretty major intersection. The room is simply appointed, clean and efficient. There is plenty of room, you do not feel crowded at all. Now for the food. I ordered the Pollo Barbacoa as it was "highly recommended" on the menu and by the waitress who was great. While waiting for my lunch i enjoyed their chips and salsa. Not like any other chips and salsa you have had before. The chips were thick and tasty with a finish of fried plantains. Different but really good. the salsa was not the standard runny sweet tomato-ee stuff. Again very different, thick and great tasting. Not sure of the spices they used. The Pollo Barbacoa was excellent. No fat, great sauce served in waxed paper with Banana leaves. Rice and beans on the side were the real deal. All the staff was fantastic. This is a keeper for sure. Enjoy!!!!

It's a must-go in Annapolis. I have lost count of how many times we have been there--always surprisingly delicious. Even the price went up a little, most dishes still worth the $ except fish tacos. It would be a better price strategy to keep original price for tacos and raise other main dishes' to attract/keep customers.

We all know where to go to for ok Mexican food, but you won't be able to go back to those places once you've been here. This is the best I've had in a looooong time. We had the shrimp quesadilla, which was amazing, and I had a tasty margarita. Then we took home the Chicharron en Salsa Verde (roasted crispy pork) and the Vieja Ropa (shredded marinated beef with plantains). Both dishes were divine, especially the pork -- and the plantains! The owner greeted us and was very friendly and had a bunch of great suggestions about the menu. The inside was big but not too noisy -- perfect for relaxing and having some great food. Really, really liked it. If you are looking for fresh Mexican food with a Latin flair, this is your place.

Second time I have been to Sin Fronteras and I was amazed! The first visit was just ok. I think I just ordered the wrong entree. This time I went it was with a friend and we split the Chile con Queso appetizer. It could have used some more chorizo but it still tasted great. I ended up ordering the Baleadas - two flour tortillas with refried beans, avocado, Honduran cream and my choice of either steak or chorizo w/eggs. I went with the steak. It was great! A filling dish that isn't overfilling. My friend got the Chicharron en salsa Verde. Amazing! The simple white rice was flavored with something neither of us could name but it was great. The pork was so tender that you didn't need a knife to cut it and the verde sauce was awesome. It also came with tortillas to wrap it all up in. After our appetizer and entrees we decided to split a dessert. Please try their Mexican Tempura Banana dessert! It's to die for! Whipped cream, scoop of vanilla ice cream, and tempura'd bananas topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon - so good :) Service is great, too. Granted, it was not a weekend but we walked in and were seated right away. There's a bar side and a restaurant side. Both are small but not so small you feel you're eating elbow-to-elbow with another person. We actually sat at a booth both times we visited. All our food came out really fast and we never had to ask for a refill. The waitress was really nice and checked on us just enough. The manager (I think) even came over to our table to check up on us. The first time we went, we mentioned it was our first time and they gave us free flan! Flan isn't really my cup of tea but it was very generous of them to give it to us. New outdoor patio w/tables has been installed since I last visited. It looks like it will be a really nice place to eat once the weather warms up. Yes, the place is situated in a rather 'dumpy' looking part of Annapolis (down the road from Melting Pot) and next to a liquor store but it's still worth the trip. Don't park directly in front of the restaurant. Those parking spaces are situated diagonally and can be difficult to get out of. Use the additional parking on the side. There's a big lot with tons of parking.

The food is great and the prices are decent. We had the lomo soltado and the Baleda. Not the best I have ever had, but it was good. I'm a margarita snob, so I would have liked something better than mix out of a bottle, but a good margarita is surprisingly hard to come by unless you make it yourself, so I won't hold it against them. Not sure why, but I was here on a weeknight and the place was empty. The place is pretty big with lots of tables, but only two other tables were occupied when I was there. Small outdoor seating area available in warmer months. Parking is limited, so keep that in mind.

Food was delicious and fresh, the beer was cold, and some great salsa y Luis Miguel on the sound system. Talking to the owner was my favorite part - he's very political and very involved in the community even though he hails from Miami. Will come here again and again.

Some of the best food I've ever had....... I don't know what else to say. The coq au vin is wonderful, the seafood dishes are fantastic, dessert is great, drinks are top notch. Again, I'm at something of a loss as everything is top notch.

As a child growing up in Mexico my great grandmother (RIP La Lobo) always said, "Keith, when you are a man living in the north do not forget your culinary heritage." Tacos, guacamole, and margaritas are my birthright. Sin Fronteras reminds me that it is good to be alive. The fish with mango salsa brings me back to simpler days. The owner here is very nice.

Sin Fronteras is a real gem I'm returning to! Doesn't look like much from the outside but don't be fooled--the food is out of this world. Actually it's Latin American, but not only Mexican. I tried the lomo saltado, I think Peruvian, and they were perfectly marinated beef strips. Other items such as pork chop & steak with "cactus" sauce also proved to be winners. Everything is freshly made on premises, and we even received a friendly greeting from one of the owners.

So delish!! The chorizo was so good!! I want to give it 5 but am going to give it a 4 only because of the ambiance or lack there of. Wouldn't tAke much to make the inside feel a little nicer!! Even just beer signs on the wall. I don't expect too much :)

We were referred to this restaurant by my hairdresser and the Yelp reviews seemed to back up her story. My husband had the pork in a salsa verde sauce (I can't remember the name) and I had the Ropa Vieja. Both were excellent. The salsa was good too and looked really fresh. The wait staff were excellent and helpful and the owner was very nice and attentive. We look forward to returning to try new dishes!

Fantastic...a real gem in Annapolis that leaves your with a new perception of Central and South American cooking. The family is from Miami and you can taste the difference; most restaurants that try and deliver this kind of variety usually serve dishes that taste 90% the same. And nothing could be farther from the truth at this marvelous Hispanic eatery. Do not mistake Sin Fronteras for a generic Mexican restaurant, because it is much more diverse. For example, the Lomo Saltado (Honduran!) is terrific, as is the Ropa Vieja, Guacamole, Ceviche, vaious Peruvian dishes, and frankly everything else we've had over the course of at least 5 visits. I recommend anything with chicken or salmon for the less adventurous palate--it's all wonderful. Kids are clearly appreciated and welcome, and overall the quality of service is impressive. There are two dining areas--one on the bar side with soccer or football on the tube, and the other in a larger hall that's painted with a Central/South American theme. The overall feel is casual and the vibe just works. The two downsides are the unfortunate placement next to a low-end liquor store and a cruddy parking area (that could use some serious landscaping attention). However don't let that dissuade you as you arrive--the food is incredible. Local to this is Jalapenos--which is also very very good. Unfortunately they have turned us away for lack of reservations. Sin Fronteras is usually hopping, but we seem to get a table quickly. In short, a real (delicious!) taste of foods south of the border that is easy, reasonably priced, and very well managed.

I'm a serious burrito lover. While on the surface it seems like there couldn't be too much difference between something comprised chiefly of beans, rice, and a flour tortilla, I've been searching tirelessly for the perfect one. I think my search may have finally come to an end thanks to Sin Fronteras. First of all, as the owner cheerfully explained to us when my party of 5 came in, they make everything fresh in house. No microwaves, no cans, and nothing frozen. You can seriously taste the difference. The beans were to die for; hearty and slightly smoky and unlike any black beans I've ever had. And the vegetarian burrito actually had vegetables in it! Asparagus, onions, carrots, and I don't even know what else because I was so blinded by the euphoria the food inspired that I couldn't be bothered to pay close attention to what I was eating. The fresh guacamole on top set it off perfectly but I appreciated the fact that they applied it with a light hand rather than smothering it like most places do; the balance of flavors was spot-on. The margarita was also one of the best I've had. Big, strong, not too sweet, and just the right accompaniment to a heavy meal. For $7 it's quite a good deal! Plus the service was great. My group was a combination of vegans, vegetarians, gluten free-ers, and omnivores but our respective restrictions were handled with ease. One dish was forgotten but it wasn't a big deal and given how complicated our order was I was rather impressed that there was only one mishap. And the waitress was so sweet that I can't even bring myself to deduct a star for that. Whatever you are doing, stop right now and head over to Sin Fronteras. You will not be disappointed.

It is the rare place that gets a 5 from me. EVERY restaurant in Annapolis can learn a thing or two about customer service form Sin Fronteras and the owner Walter. Remembers most names and ALWAYS comes to say hello and make sure your visit is a good one! You walk into the place and while you may look out of place (you gringo) you are welcomed like family. And fed like family. Want to tweak a dish--no problem. Need special preparation--no problem. And it is VERY affordable. The food is not tex-mex. It is not Mexican. It is Latin and you can find Peruvian, Mexican, Salvadoran, and well as "Americanized Mexican" food here. My youngest daughter is a chicken nuggets kind of kid and while I could have got them here, she ventured out of her shell and now is a fan! The downside--the exterior. Very easy to miss. Next to the sketchy liquor store in the strip center across from Colonial Florist. The place also does not look too appetizing from the outside, but the interior is clean and bright. And if you do miss it--well you have missed out! I hear they are putting in an outdoor dining area this spring.

Sin Fronteras is authentic Latin food, and is simply wonderful! Absolutely the BEST guacamole I have ever had! And the owner Walter is such a personable down-to-earth guy! We have been here many times and will continue to go back!

My only regret is that we found this place only a few months before we moved. This may be my favorite restaurant in the Annapolis area. The Red Sangria is amazing and they have, in my opinion, the best salsa verde I have ever had. My wife is a big fan of the ropa vieja. The owner is very friendly and is always looking for feedback.

Great Service! Friendly "at the door" greeting. Carnitas tacos, tacos Fritos and margaritas were great!

Delicious food and very good service. We started with guacamole which was very fresh. They offer regular or spicy and we opted for the spicy which was loaded with fresh jalapeños. The margaritas were well made and they were mostly tequila and not full of sugary mixer. My entree was the Chile Relleno and it was very fresh and presented well. The chicken inside the pepper was perfectly cooked and the pepper was very lightly battered and fried which kept the dish quite light. The plate was not over garnished and the sauce was delicious. I strongly recommend eating at Sin Fronteras!

I've held off on writing a review for this place because I've only done takeout for the past 4 months - and in full disclosure, since we've found this place, we've done takeout almost every single Friday night for the past 4 months. It's that good. Alas, I finally went inside last night. Ok, the decor leaves a bit to be desired. It's a hole in the wall: the furniture doesn't match, the servers' English isn't great, and the food is not "Mexican". But the food is AMAZING. I've spent some time in Mexico and Peru, and this place is legitimately doing real Central American food. If you're expecting a burrito with lots of Velveeta this is not your place. They make real mole sauce from 20 ingredients (including over 5 different peppers). Their Enchiladas with mole sauce is probably my favorite dish so far - but I've been impressed with everything I've had. Nothing has been just simply mediocre. Even the drinks are real, there's no "mixologist" on staff, it's just what people drink in Central America. Margaritas here aren't sweet, because they're not made from a mix...they have real citrus juices. Pisco Sours are their favorite. Locals are drinking Micheladas: tomato juice and corona. Then, we met the owner, Walter, last night. And he makes me want to come here even more frequently that we already do. He has a passionate and sincere interest in the quality of his food, having the attentive staff, and creating a cohesiveness between Latinos and other cultures in Annapolis. His passion for all things good is infectious. Look soon for the beer garden/tiki bar to be opening around March.

I ordered the chorizo as a test -- was it going to be properly red and oily? Or would it be that weird, dry cat food consistency? Luckily for all, the chorizo is great. Flavorful, well prepared, and not so greasy as to be messy. The carnitas were good as well, and the trio of hot sauce condiments improved an already tasty dish. We also ordered the queso con chile, which was simply Velveeta with meats. I was hoping it was more like choriqueso so a bit disappointed. Will likely be back next time I'm in Annapolis.

Full disclosure, I love Sin Fronteras. We used to always get carry out for lunch when I was working right around the corner, and the food was always wonderful. My personal favorites are the Cuban sandwich, and the Torta Mexicana (especially chorizo con huevos). In both cases they are served on bread similar to a baguette, which, while not traditional, is still very good. Both are also served with fries. Also good are the fish tacos, tajaditas, and baleadas, though the 2 sandwhiches were usually my go to choice for lunch. As it was always lunch when I've been, it has never been busy, though I've heard it can be so for dinner at times. The staff is always very friendly and the service it quality. Many times when we've been in one of the owners has been there and he always makes sure to welcome us, and stops by our table when we choose to eat in to make sure that everything was ok. I highly recommend a visit to Sin Fronteras. The parking is a bit odd, the location not the best, but the food is worth the visit.

I am a huge fan of Mexican food and after going to Sin Fronteras I think i have finally found my favorite place in all of Maryland. I got the Ropa Vieja, which was essentially shredded beef with peppers and onions mixed in and it was sososo good. My wife got the enchiladas with carnitas and a frozen margarita which she greatly enjoyed. One of the best parts was the chips and salsa they served before the meal. The salsa was amazing. I am definitely going to be coming back here the next time i visit Annapolis.

I feel like I have to give this place five stars because it's as good as you're going to get in Annapolis, for Mexican or any other type of food really. The chili rellenos was outstanding and the tomatillo sauce is the best I've had in my (somewhat limited) experience with authentic Mexican cooking. The fajitas looked amazing, but don't eat the jalapeno that comes on top--it was face melting hot. Encheladas with chorizo were very tasty as well and the homemade guacamole, chips and salsa are probably the best in the area. Do yourself a favor and skip Chevy's, Mexican Cafe, El Toro Bravo and every other strip mall, Americanized Mexican joint and give this place a shot. It's right up there with R&R Taqueria and more affordable than Jalapenos.

Went here over the summer, and from the moment we arrived, we were very well attended. The staff and owner were friendly and welcoming and our server even helped us with directions to our next destination, which we appreciated. The space itself has a very nice atmosphere as well. We had a shrimp cocktail and a fish dish baked in a type of leaf, which was delicious and among the best authentic Mexican food I've tasted in the US. The variety of menu choices, which included food from other Latin American countries was also great. We had to have the chips and salsa refilled more than once because of how much we liked them, so I highly recommend!

I went there for the first time today (7/11/13) with a co-worker and was pleasantly surprised. Mexican is my favorite non-American food and I think I've found a new favorite "go to" Mexican place!

First off, this may seem trivial to non Annapolitans, but to my utter shock, Sin Fronteras Cafe's menu did NOT have any of the following offerings: crab cakes, crab balls, crab dip, crab soup, crab nachos, crab pretzels , crab quesadillas or any other concoction utilizing the ubiquitous blue crab. For some reason, EVERY restaurant here thinks it must feature this crustacean whether it makes sense to do it or not. God Bless Sin Fronteras for just sticking to their formula of Mexican and Latin American food. OK off the soap box. We were warmly greeted the second we walked in the door, not only by the hostess/server but the owner as well. He immediately introduced himself, shook our hands, and told us a bit about the place once we were seated. What a joy. We were hungry, but not starving, so we had no plans to order any appetizers, especially since we were immediately served warm chips and salsa. But when the owner described the freshly prepared guacamole made from small tender avocados from Guatemala, well let's just say we acquiesced. Wow, I knew we were in trouble when this giant sized serving arrived at our table. It could of easily satisfied a party of four. Maybe offer 1/2 a serving as well? Anyway, the guac was really really fresh, with plenty of creaminess and chunkiness. Fresh cilantro and tomatoes were sprinkled throughout, and all the ingredients just made a nice symphony of flavors and textures. It was really difficult to decide what to order as almost every dish sounded intriguing and delicious. Besides tacos, burritos, enchiladas and chimichangas, the menu was dotted with offerings from countries like Peru and Honduras. One entree sounded so good but it was lunch time, and I decided to save the pork chop a la mamajuana for my next visit. This dish was described as a thick pork chop marinated in citrus and topped with Serrano ham and onion rings served with mashed potatoes, casamiento and homemade juan liquor sauce. This aint no Chi Chi's! We ended up ordering a chicken chimi, Chile relleno with chicken, and baleadas stuffed with refired beans, freshly grated cheese, avocado, mantequilla and carne asada. Oh boy. The servings were beyond ample, and we laughed as we gazed over the mountain of food before us. The relleno was a delight to the eyes. A beautiful pepper swimming in a bright green and tart tomatillo sauce. It was filled to the gills with tender shredded chicken, and the poblano pepper was perfectly charred yet soft. A perfect vessel for delivering it's tasty stuffing. The chimi was ginormous, packed with rice, beans, chicken and spices. The avocado sauce that topped it was sublime. The baleadas were good, but not too exciting until I dipped the home made flour tortilla with all it's goodies into the relleno's tomatillo sauce. This put the dish into another dimension. All I can say is thank you thank you Sin Fronteras for injecting authenticity into the Annapolis restaurant scene. I just wish we hadn't wait that long to visit. You can bet will be back.....and soon.

The mamajuana pork chop is amazing. Best Mexican food in Annapolis, and their margaritas are great too. Don't be scared of its sketchy location.

My bf wanted to take me to Annapolis for a day trip to do some sightseeing. Once we got here I was starving for lunch. Decided to browse yelp and this restaurant came up. Of course I had to try this place with such a high rating and let me tell ya- it did not disappoint!! I got the Baleadas (one steak and one chorizo with egg) and my bf got a chirizo taco. We also got a half order of the guacamole. The food was so flavorful, FRESH and tasty. The owner, Walter was very friendly and introduced himself to us when we first came in and then checked in on us frequently. Very friendly staff as well. I will definitely come back to try other dishes in the future.

I loved this place!!! We were greeted and seated by the owner right away. He then told us about his restaurant and explained some of the popular items on the menu. The guacamole was great and fresh, and the burrito was incredibly tasty and satisfying! I definitely want to come back here the next time I'm in town.

Sin Fronteras should be nicknamed Sin Frivolities. This is straight forward Mexican food without the typical ornaments that paper the walls and menus of other restaurants. I'm not sure if that always speaks authenticity, but it surely doesn't hurt that food seems to be the focus here and they execute well. First off, you need to look for Sin Fronteras - it is hidden away near the busy intersection of Forest Dr and Rt 2 in Annapolis. Once you've discovered it, be prepared for a spartan interior and very friendly staff. The guacomole is chuncky but fresh, and the chicarrones en salsa verde is deliciously covered in onions. Be warned you'll be taking some home - big servings.

After some exhausting shopping at the mall, finding a good place to eat was the next agenda....& waalah there was Sin Fronteras I was kind of put off by the location, it didn't look impressive at all & I was split between turning on the ignition or going inside This time I'm glad to say I made the right decision. Margarita on the rocks was probably on the list of the best *just what I needed* the Guacamole was freshly made, u can just smell the herbs & onion....comes inside this big whatchamacallit thingy & plenty for 3-4 people, did I mention it was FRESH & delicioso. Now onto the entree...the porkchops were spectacular...thick, juicy, seasoned just right & it comes with sometype of sauce *smokey chipolte flavor* & the rice & potatoes were on point. The service was great, our waitress was the sweetest & she even told us that they were going to be on Diners, Drive ins & dives *my fav show* shhh but don't tell anyone its suppose to be a secret!!!

Wonderful. Chile Rellano was out of this world. As was the beef chimichanga. Fresh fried tortilla chips, roasted tomato salsa, freshly prepared guac. Fast, friendly, attentive service. Good portions. Will be back next time we are in town!

After my second trip I really have to recommend a visit. Staff is all very friendly and helpful. The owners are passionate and eager to please. Top this off with tasty food and good prices, and you have a recipe for success. The Horchata was great. Shrimp taco was the best I've had and it cost $2.50!! I mean, thats just for a taco, but it was flavorful, good textures, and great seasonings. Baleadas con chorizo y huevo are also good. They made one with meat and one without for my vegetarian companion. They have a lot of vegetarian options and are very willing to adjust the menu for particular eaters. I was told they are in a permit battle to allow latin dancing in their back room, which would be a welcome addition to the annapolis scene. GO HERE!

1st time picking up food here and it was a hit across the board. Quesadillas my son loved. The Chicharron en salsa verde which was flavorful and just as written crispy outside and tender inside. equally delicious Pollo a la Barbacoa, nice blend of flavor We'll be back!

One of the previous Yelper's said "this place doesn't have one bad review". I am so NOT going to be the person that turns that tide. Everything was yummy! The first thing that came to the table was fresh made tortilla chips and a salsa that had a hint of pineapple. Soft drinks followed shortly thereafter. I had no plans to order an appetizer, but Patricia (our server) described the fresh made guacamole and my date ordered the spicy version, it was soooooo good it was worth every fat calorie it contained. Lots of menu choices, and since this was our visit, it was hard to choose; my date ordered the Baleadas with pollo (chicken) and a Chile Relleno with pollo. He was hungry, but the substantial amount of food that arrived soon thereafter was too much...although he gave it a good try. I decided on the Fajitas (pollo) and was very happy with my choice. No need to announce the skillet the fajitas arrived on was hot, it announced that on its own from about 20 feet away. Even if they don't say it - don't touch the skillet, no doubt it's HOT!!! This was our first visit; but it won't be our last.

It seems I've been trying Mexican / Latin food all over the DC/Baltimore area lately. Don't let the weird location stop you from visiting! You'll find this in a little shopping center next to a liquor store near the much more prestigious new town center. We came here based on Yelp reviews, and we were not disappointed. Chips and salsa were very good, but the real standout was the Ropa Vieja. Definitely try this dish! The meat was so tender, and just perfectly delicious. Sides were beans and rice, and plantains. All of it was to die for. I also enjoyed a margarita, and it was very delicious! Not from a mix. For dessert, I tried the fried banana. Wow, it was really, really, good. I'll definitely be back.

We went here for lunch and it was great! All the food was fresh and phenomenal. The owner came to our table and gave us the opportunity to ask questions. He was wonderfully pleasant and a great host. All 5 of us ordered different entree and each one of us enjoyed them. What a wonderful experience! We can't wait to come back and we would recommend it in a heartbeat!

I was a bit let down after seeing these great reviews. The guacamole was ok. Found nothing special about the chile relleno, nor my dining companion's burrito. To top that off, the place was pricey and I would have felt better about it had the food been great. The manager was super friendly and I heard him explaining dishes to other patrons. I'm inclined to think their clientele is not too well-versed in any type Latin Food, but good for them for trying. Won't knock them for that.

The ropa vieja-not bad but not great. The rice and beans casamiento had a weird taste to it. The chips were soaked in oil and so were the plantains. The daiquiri was too sweet. Really was looking forward to tasting good food.

This place is one of the greatest finds in Annapolis. It's totally a diamond in the rought but don't be mistaken by the exterior or the slightly unappealing location. The food here is authentic, the service is incredible and personable and I've never been there while it's super crowded (I usually go later in the evening). The Sangria is perfectly fruity - naturally sweet versus sugary sweet. The margaritas are strong and wonderful as a margarita should be. If you're looking for an appetizer? I recommend the plantains or the nachos. Any of the entrees with meat have been delightful, and intensely flavorful. I myself, have enjoyed the enchilladas both with mole and tomatillo sauce, you really can't go wrong. Try the sopapillas for dessert, they're sugary and fluffy and the perfect cap to any dinner. To top the exceptional food and amazing service off, the prices are incredibly reasonable and won't break the wallet.

....when we arrived, we were served chips and salsa- it was really good! The salsa was one of the best salsa's I had- tasted homemade. We ordered fish tacos, lomo saltado, and mango tilapia dish-- everything was pretty good except the lomo saltado was a bit salty and the yuca a bit over- fried. The fish tacos and especially the mango tilapia dish was delicious!

This place was awesome! Great food - great service. Place is not huge and parking stinks, but it was well worth it. Best part about this experience was that the owner was here and took the time to say hello and speak to each and every customer :)

Fantastic little hidden away place. There is almost zero ambiance, its next to a nasty looking liquor store. BUT IT DOES NOT MATTER! The food is great and the service is friendly and very competent. We were seated in less time than they initially said. I had the Rope Vieja and it was delicious. I would have liked a tad more spice, but it was fine for normal people, lol. The marguerita really is as good as they say it is. So I had to have two. If you are in town, you must go here.

So you understand how serious I am about Cuban food, it's important to know that I grew up in Florida and learned Spanish from a Cuban girlfriend, and I've been to Cuba more than once. Yes. That Cuba. The one 91 miles from Key West with a ranting Communist leader and an embargo. The one where ropa vieja is basically no longer available because they have to get all of their beef from Canada. CANADA! What kind of shitty beef is available in Canada?! It's not poutine, it's BEEF! I digress, but that fact is, the ropa vieja at Sin Fronteras is outstanding, and the beans and rice and plantains that come with it are delectable and perfectly seasoned and cooked. Go there. Eat.

There are four restaurants we go to in Annapolis. This is one of them. Always consistent, food is delicious, drinks are amazing and the service is perfect. Try the shimp ceviche. Ask for it spicy if you want it that way. Walter the owner is a great guy which only enhances the experience. Get there early or you'll be having to enjoy drinks for a bit.

Great authentic food at good prices. A little gem of a place with great management and staff. The area isn't the best so be on guard... if there is no up front parking then pass it by and visit another time rather than parking in the far lot and walking past the liquor store.

  • Nick C.

OK, when you pull up, you do think about pulling off and leaving. Just pass the liquor store and go in. Although the area appears sketchy, the food is well worth the trip. Once inside the hostess seated us quickly and was very friendly. The interior is basic, nothing special. The wait staff is very attentive and helpful. I ordered the lomo saltado, my wife got the fajitas. The lomo saltado was better than I have had in years. Not even La Brasa in Rockville comes close to this flavor and portion size. Great seasoning and just the right amount. The salsa verde is excellent- just the right blend of flavor and heat. The ceviche appetizer was great, even my kids loved it. No disappointments here. All was good and lomo saltado was great, best in the area, maybe the whole state. We are going back to try the Pollo a la Barbacoa that everyone is raving about. Glad we took the trip, well worth the drive.

Love this local hide-away. Guaucamole is amazing. Could eat just that as my meal. Take note, you can order a 1/2 order. Good thing if you're not up for a $10 full-size. The place is very plain and begging for a redo and some sound barriers in the 2nd room, but it's clean, great service, and great food. Very accommodating if you want something customized. I try something new each time I go because it is such an interesting menu. Everything has been great and worth trying a second time. This place is busy, so plan your timing accordingly. Just try it! Also, the drinks are strong! :)

FINALLY! A Mexican place in Annapolis that truly rocks. This lack of street appeal is more than made up for when you dine here. The owner is often there, making sure you enjoy your food. If there is any issue, he will take care of it with a smile. The food is authentic and tasty! The Miami influence makes this stand out as the best Mexican place in Annapolis. Skip the Crappy El Toro Bravo and Mexican Crappe(Cafe). Sin Fronteras is the BOMB! Ba-Boooom!

I believe I've had nearly everything on the menu over the course of the last year...except for the tilapia and salmon, for some reason. The staff here is fantastic. The owner, especially, is an incredible host and his warmth and genuine desire to make you happy add a lot to the experience. Highly recommended: * chili con queso - simply a good, flavorful queso * Mariscada soup - this was a surprise. a great, huge serving of tomatoey, seafood soup. Lots of depth * Camarones michuacanos - the mexican chipotle cream sauce is addictive, the shrimp are cooked perfectly and the white rice is extra fluffy * Pork Chop a La Mamajuana - this is a work of art. the pork chop is marinated in lime and then char grilled which gives it a nice, deep smokey flavor. The homemade sauce is made from rum that has wood soaked in it, with spices, cream and ham added. It's amazing. The fried onion on top adds a little crunch to each bite. The potatoes on the side, while great on their own, are perfect for sopping up each last bit of the Juana sauce. I wish these guys the best. It's at least as good as any mexican food I've had. Certainly the best in Annapolis, by a very long mile.

Best Mexican food I've had in Virginia. We had the combo fajitas and the chili con queso to start. Both were excellent. Margarita was strong and not too sweet.. just the way we like it. Owner was very nice and personable. The chips are homemade and awesome! highly recommend this place and will definitely come back next time I visit Annapolis!

My wife and I went here on the recommendation of a friend and are glad that we did. We passed this place by numerous times because of the location but now that we've eaten there we will definitely be frequenting it. The service was great, everyone was friendly, and the food was fantastic. Don't let the location influence you, this place is a gem.

Not saying anything that hasn't been said before. This place is in a really bad part of town, but the food and service are off the charts. Started with the spicy guac -- awesome and huge. Had the carnitas mole enchilada -- perfect size, mole was spot on and the carnitas were slow roasted to perfection. Dining partner had the steak burrito and was very happy with her decision. Definitely will be back.

Woa, where did this place come from??? And how did I not know about it??? This may actually be the best food in Annapolis, and it is certainly, hands down, without a shadow of a doubt, the best nachos in a 20 mile radius. Yes, it is stuffed behind a skeezy liquor store (Parole liquors, somebody likes puns) and has weird seating and an overactive air conditioner and it sort of feels like eating in a gym, but who cares about the decor when the food is so amazing?

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
