High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. Avoid ordering foods that contain over 1000mg sodium at Applebee's, especially if you're dining alone.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol

While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. Lebanese Taverna is certainly a reliable spot if you're looking for Middle Eastern food in Annapolis. With a wide variety of salads, sandwiches, appetizers, platters, and entrees, you're sure to find something enjoyable. I usually opt for the Kia's Platter ($10.95). It includes a choice of chicken or lamb shwarma plus four mezza items and pita bread, but I make it veggie, and order my five favorites. I go for the lebneh (thick, strained yogurt), m'saka (eggplant, tomatoes, and chickpeas), falafel, grape leaves, and house salad. The kitchen is a bit inconsistent--sometimes the platter includes two falafel patties, while other times it's just one. Ditto for the grape leaves. Platters used to include a soft drink, and Mondays used to be half-price sandwich days. Alas, what used-to-bes don't count anymore. The kids' menu features pizza, chicken tenders and fries, and a Middle Eastern mini-sampler (kibbeh, hummus, and fries). I am happy to report that Chickadee (age 3) has never had a chicken tender/finger, and she doesn't like fries! I usually order her 1 or 2 pieces of falafel ($1.50 each), give her some of my lebneh and pita, and bring some fresh fruit from home, and she's good to go. L.T. is kid-friendly. There are several cups filled with crayons near the register. They used to have a cute placemat with different designs to color, but Chickadee's just as happy free-forming it with the plain white placemats. The bathroom includes a changing table. The staff is friendly and attentive. **L.T.'s website features a "Kids Eat Free" promotion on Wednesdays.

I went here for the first time the other day. First off, I want to say the hummus was excellent, as was the bread. The best hummus I have found in the area. The hummus is 5 star quality. Also, the baklava was very good. The rest of my meal was pretty ordinary. I had the mixed grill kabobs and they were nothing really special. The lamb was a bit chewy and the chicken seemed to be under seasoned. I had a bite of my SO's chicken shwarma sandwich and it tasted much better. Not sure why. They also give you the option of fries with your sandwich and nothing is better than hot fries dipped in hummus. The hummus alone will not allow me to give this place less than four stars. I will be back.

We have been going to this location for many years and we were so disappointed to find out that they changed their menus. They remove food items we were so used to getting. I hope this change is for the better. I hate to see this local eats degrades instead of improves.

First time at Lebanese Taverna....restaurant was well lit, clean and cool on a 90+ degree day. Staff was friendly and informative to my companion and me who were both first time Lebanese food diners. Food arrived quickly and looked fantastic. We had a chicken shawarma, a beef and lamb shawarma and grape leaves. Both shawarmas were packed full to overflowing and were delicious. Make sure you try the garlic sauce! Will definitely be back....

I have to admit...I think my favorite thing about this place is its location. It is very close to the Harbour Place 9 cinemas, so close that you can park near one and walk to the other in about 90 seconds. So, for me, the reasonably good, reasonably healthy food and the format (order at the counter, pick up when your order is called) make this the perfect place to go before a movie. You'll know how long it will take you to get your food more or less and you won't be late for the movie because some slow waitress takes forever to bring your check, etc. You also won't have to sit through the movie with a bacon cheeseburger and fries fermenting in your gut.

Always delicious and get my Mediterranean fix in from here since my garbanzos closed in both crofton and annapolis. Usually I get a platter but today we decided to get the feast for two people and it was more than enough food. Perfect for the vegetarian To share w a non as the majority of the items were veggie except a couple pastry items. Lots of fresh veggie based mezze, I'm attaching the pic.

Have gone there three times this past summer. I was remiss in not writing a review. Nice atmosphere, staff ok and food is outstanding. Salmon great, pork on the bone fabulous, rice, salads and kabobs very good. Employees should not eat when taking your order nor should they sit at a table talking on the phone eating from the restaurant next door when the front is very busy and tables not bussed. Otherwise the food is great and we always carry out. They should be more friendly and helpful to seniors. I am not one, yet, but they don't explain the way the food comes out by the numbers and I have watched seniors just sit there while their food sat at the counter. I shouldn't have to weigh in on their behalf just tell them when they order.

I had such high hopes for this place! I ordered the chicken shawarma with a side of rice. Once I started eating it, I realized it was so dry and flavorless. Traditional shawarma is suppose to be made with thigh meat but they make theirs with chicken breasts. Also the shawarma has chicken, lettuce and garlic sauce; no pickle (no biggie, but I'm use to shawarma having pickles. Perhaps only Michigan does the pickle) Also the rice tasted like minute made rice, it was so bland and flavorless. In all, my meal was pretty bad, however they did give you decent portions for the price.

We ordered the Traditional with two plates of falafel and father spinach. The portion of the traditional was so big but everything tastes very good. I cannot complain

Been going to this location for years. Today, Sunday, at 5p ordered Rotisserie Chicken. At first, the leg and breast were so overdone and dry that both were inedible. Manager replaced pieces and the substitutes were of similar poor quality. I then asked for a falafel sandwich. This was cold. I ate it anyway cause I was hungry. On other occasions there, this sandwich was clearly warm-hot. My wife ordered salmon. This was dry and overly cooked. What's going on folks? In addition, many tables both inside and out were not cleared. Overall, a very poor showing today. It'll be a long time before we return. A shame.

Great fresh Lebanese cuisine. We had the chicken shawarma sandwich and the djaje chicken sandwich. They were both tasty and filling but didn't weigh us down!

Think twice before ordering their take-out. It pains me to write this because I've gone to the Taverna for a number of years and have had generally good experiences. But tonight I was in a rush and called ahead for takeout for the first time. Upon arriving home I found that I'd been given less than half of the normal portion I'm served in the restaurant, and the chickpeas in the lamb fatteh (what few of them there were) were below room temperature. This dish, described as lamb over "layers of chickpeas, pita chips, and pine nuts" had a grand total of two pine nuts. Two. As if it were by accident. I've had the same dish inside the restaurant multiple times and my takeout order barely resembled what I'd had in store. I don't know what happened to their standards when they heard my order was for takeout. Four star in-store service plus a zero star take-out experience averages to two, and leaves me one flabbergasted ex-regular.

We went on a busy Saturday night. There was a line for ordering, quite a few people waiting to pick up food, and very little seating space left, but we decided to stick it out. I got the Traditional platter, switching out a kibbeh for an extra dolma to make my meal vegetarian. The dolma were great, the hummus and baba ghanoush were also quite good. The only thing that was unimpressive was the falafel, which was well cooked but not super flavorful. The other dishes more than made up for it though! My husband got the mouzat (lamb shank). He said it was surprisingly great, the sauce was well seasoned and he said he tasted cloves. The rice was plain but went well with the dish, and his lamb was perfectly cooked and tender. We also got an extra side of hummus and it was SO GOOD. Heavy on the tahini, just how I like it. They have unlimited pita bread, which they ran out of for a little while, but that meant it was hot and fresh when it was available! Tables were bussed very quickly to help with the crowds.

Stopped by the other evening for a quick dinner after running errands in Annapolis. I got the 1/4 dark meat. Very good, tender and came with roasted potatoes and pita. I skipped the pita but that's a personal preference. Lots of good salad options too. I wish I had tried one but I'll definitely be back. They also had yummy (local) teas for sale. Love local business supporting other local business! They offer free range chicken an gluten free items clearly marked as well. Friendly staff and very helpful!

It had been a while since I visited Lebanese Taverna. So, when my girlfriend said she had a taste for Mediterranean, LTC immediately came to mind. I phoned ahead, and my order was ready when I arrived. I ordered he traditional platter for my girlfriend, and she ate every single bite. I had a chicken kabob pita - excellent.

Such great ethnic food. I have been to the location in Falls Church and really enjoyed the family environment and the food. I lucked upon this place while I was in Annapolis waiting for my fiancee to finish some business nearby. Yay me! I ordered the swarma sandwich platter, which came with a salad and choice of side. I chose rice. It was fresh and fantastic. The dressing on the salad was tasty, and light. The rice was cooked to perfection. The sandwich was amazing. Simply amazing. I love the tender beef and lamb. The sauces are interesting and just compliment the meat perfectly. Great flavor combinations. The bread was soft and perfect. There were plenty of tables at lunchtime. The prices were very reasonable ($16 for a lunch platter and a glass of wine). The counter person and the food runner were super nice. Love this place!

Food is really good for their prices. I'd definitely recommend the Traditional platter which is a nice sampler of hummus, falafel, etc.. The pita bread is unlimited which is an added bonus. My only complaint is they kept the a/c a litlle too cold and with only 2 outdoor tables that were taken up at the time, we had a very chilly meal. But outside of that, I'd highly recommend this restaurant.

We left at 12:30pm on a Sunday and the place was getting some business! Both of us ordered the falafel sandwich and it came with a small, decent salad. The spicy hummus is spectacular and has a bit of a kick! The falafel is divine says my friend- complete with parsley and mini pieces of radish. Divine is correct especially after last weekends bland Garbanzo in Gambrills. The pistachio baklava was excellent.

I'm very glad to have a Lebanese Taverna Cafe in Annapolis. It's not as good as their full service restaurants that I've been to, but it is good enough. In particular, I love their chicken kabobs and rice (though sometimes they skimp a bit on the meat, which is more noticeable at the price point they're charging). While I love eating there, service at times can be a bit spotty. Plus, the layout can be a bit chaotic to navigate. Since it is a seat yourself fast casual concept with limited physical space, and many of the patrons tend to sprawl out their chairs, it is difficult to get around when trying to pick up an order/refill a drink, etc. All that being said, I like it enough to eat there regularly.

  • Joe K.

Overall this place is rather quite and relaxing to enjoy a lunch / dinner at. The menu is a little more casual than their other locations and comes off as a quick place to grab a bite. I have had their chicken kabobs, which were paired with their delicious naan, vegetables and their tomato sauce. The sauce it self was very flavorful and helped bring all the elements of the the dish together, without being too heavy or over powering the other flavors. The outdoor seating is nice during a week day, but do the increased amount of traffic on the weekend's I would recommend sitting inside if you're looking for a quite meal. Customer service has always been great, and fast. 3 stars.

The lady at the counter double charged my gift card. Alarmingly, she was adamant that she did not do so. When I kindly and respectfully told her that she may have ran it through twice, she was dismissive of my suggestion. I think her contempt towards me was due to my perceived naivete- the "she's a dumb blonde" routine. After eating my bland salad, I approached another man at the counter for help in putting the money back on the card, which he did. The bubble bread maker was dreamy, but the food lacked true eastern-Mediterranean flavor. The L.T. in Baltimore is much better with an attentive staff, not because it is more formal restaurant, but because the staff members are not disparaging towards customers .

This is a good quick place to have a delicious falafel sandwich or a platter with hummus and salad. The food is really good. Try their soups. Amazing. Downside is the. Portions are SERIOUSLY shrinking. The counter staff are not the friendliest but who cares, the food is worth the snark.

Stopped in with my son before a movie purely by accident.....you see, my 19 yr old son tends to be stuck in his pattern of only wanting to go to chain restaurants and was REALLY hoping for TGI Friday's, but since they were packed and there was no parking, I drove around and was afraid he was going to ask for Baja Fresh, when for some unknown reason he decided to be adventurous and said "Let's try this place!" Well, after he scooped me up from the parking lot, we proceeded inside to find a very nice clean and well organized cafe. The staff were very friendly ,making excellent recommendations, and there was no wait at all at the counter. My son decided on the shawarma platter, which he said was delicious (it was his first time trying Lebanese food ,so I was pleasantly surprised). My kafta was good but a little dry for my taste, but I must say the hummus was the best I've had in the area. It was definitely the star of the show! And with the warm unlimited pita bread, you've just got to finish it all!

Food was very good but the portion size was a joke. I got the Oliva platter with Hummus, grape leaves and tabuli. 2 grape leaves and about 4 tablespoons total of hummus and tabuli? Really? One.piece of bread?!! It didn't even fill the plate. Um, I'll be taking my $11 elsewhere. Because Im still hungry!!

One of my favorite places to eat in Annapolis. Try the tabbouleh salad. It's the best I've ever tasted. The Salmon Harra is the best salmon dish in all Annapolis. Desserts include a delicious homemade rice pudding and of course, baklava (the best in Annapolis. I buy them to sneak them into the movie theatre). The Ksara red wine is very delicious and perfect on the palette especially when paired with the red sauce in the Salmon Harra. The falafel is delicious especially when combined with the spicy hummus.

Pretty good value... I did find a bone in my chicken pita sandwich. That was not a pleasant thing but my wife sees the silver lining - at least it is real chicken. I guess it could have been a synthetic bone placed there to fool me. The downside of eating here is that it is super garlicky... Which means I can't make out with my wife without grossing her out. Oh well. I'd still come back and try more stuff.

Good food, slow service especially when they are busy. They are just not very efficient at peak hours. This place is one of those weird places that is is stuck between fast food and real restaurant. Not a good choice if you are in a hurry, especially if you order any of the kabobs. Overall the food is good. I've had the Kibbeh and the lamb kabab entree. It is pretty good, but nothing special. The meats were a little bland. The Kibbeh is a filling snack, or a meal depending on how hungry you are. They also sell a small selection of spices. The Baklava was OK, it was kinda bland and not really all that sweet.

A lot of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu and the meals I have had were A+... 3 stars only because of the 3 times I have been to this restaurant (either for dine-in or carry-out), the staff has been pretty rude.

I'm a huge fan of Lebanese food. This place has average Lebanese food, but it has vegetarian selections, so you can go with friends who are of that persuasion. The lentil soup is probably my favorite here along with the inevitable dolmas, which are very good as well. The hummus is delightful too. Nothing outstanding except the lentil soup, but a relatively good value for healthy fare. The ambience is a bit casual--you order at a counter, and it can be crowded and noisy. But it's reliable and tasty.

Traditional Mezza Platter: Hummus, good. Tabouleh, really good. Baba ghannouge, good. A kibbeh, kinda dry. A grape leaf, okay. 2 falafel, never been a fan... I always think they're too dry. Bottled guava juice. yum. In a nutshell, nice place to go for a quick walk-up and order kinda place. I agree that it's missing some "soul" but it's still pretty good considering where we're at. Another great reason to strategically shop at Harbour Center. Enter off of 665 and Forest Drive- you'll be on the same side as the restaurant.

I've always wanted to visit the Lebanese Taverna in Downtown Silver Spring near my workplace, but a friend told me it was "expensive", so I never went. Well, today hubby and I tried the one in Annapolis, and hubby has announced that we'll be going back. It wasn't expensive at all, and the food was really very good! He, being a vegetarian, had the Mediterranean platter, which had the spinach pie (which is not spanikopita, but more like a spinach filled samosa-type triangular tasty thing), an eggplant salad, hummus, and a stuffed grape leaf thing, as well as lentil soup. As picky as he is, the only thing that wasn't great for him was the soup, which was a little bland for his taste. Everything else he loved! I had the Kia platter, so I selected baba ganoush, shredded lamb, tabouleh salad, and a spinach "pie". The flavors were on point-- nicely seasoned lamb, sharp flavors in the tabouleh, and I had to restrain myself from licking up all the baba ganoush. I'm reading the other reviews, and wondering if the pita was unlimited? That would have been good to know, but I was full before I finished. So I saved some room for the pistachio baklava, which was perfect. The food gets 5 stars, and both meals came to less than $25, which is very reasonable, for the amount of food we got. The decor is casually attractive, but it was freezing in there. Even the man at the table next to me told his wife he was cold-- and it seems men are rarely cold. It's cold there... bring a sweater or wrap. That bumps them down a star, but we'll still be back soon.

I gottfavotite dish fatten eggplant and husband got the falafel platter. The falafel had radishes which gave a little crispness to the bite. The atmosphere is pleasant an there is mix of generations. Decent food at decent price if $25 for two.

This place has always been solid. I've been coming here since they opened 7 or 8 years ago and I always stop in when I'm in town. Always good service and the food is delish. Everything is good, I usually sub the fries for hummus, get an extra bread.

We went here for a Friday night dinner. We were impressed with the atmosphere--very casual and comfy. We ordered the Shwarma and Kafta. The Shwarma was delicious--the sauce is the standout--but all the flavors blended well. We were not as impressed with the Kafta--we would not order it again and will instead look to an appetizer. Overall a good experience and we will return.

I had all but forgot this place. Since the Whole Foods moved the center where this is located has been very quiet. We had lunch and had the Chicken Salad, and Chicken Swarma with falafel, humus, pita, stuffed grape leaves and tabouleh. The salad was fair and the chicken swarma was dry. The rest of the items were great. The pita is amazing. Service is counter style and though there was only one other table, it took about 20 minutes to get served. Might not be a good choice for a weekday lunch. Pricing was good. PS Don't forget to ask for yoghurt sauce. It's great on everything but they don't give it out unless you ask. FYI it's free

  • Christy F.

I'm a huge fan of the hummus offered here. I'm not sure what their secret ingredient is for the hummus -- but it is delightfully smooth and creamy. I've tried most of the standard Middle Eastern offerings on their menu - hummus, falafel, tabboleh, grape leaves, etc. Everything is above-average good, but not mind-blowingly awesome (for such awesomeness, try Cava in DC). The Mezza platters offer a nice sampling of their menu. Easy to get vegetarian friendly food here too, which is nice. I decided to branch out last night and try the Eggplant Fatteh, which is described as warm yogurt sauce over chickpeas and pita chips. It was so disgusting I could not eat it. The eggplant was overcooked and dripping with oil, the pita chips also were extremely oily (seemed like they had put them in their own deep fryer), and there were a few chickpeas thrown in and covered in a yogurt "sauce." I'm not sure how it was a yogurt "sauce" because it tasted like plain yogurt to me. Also, the atmosphere of this place is never quite right. The temperature is freezing in the winter and the tables are closely packed together. For the price of the entrees, I tend to want things a touch nicer -- it is trying to be an upscale cafe dining experience, but the ambiance isn't as nice as, say, Panera. It is definitely overpriced, which I wouldn't mind so much if I felt comfortable there, but I never do. So, on the whole, I'm iffy about this place. I love Mid-Eastern food, and I'd eat more of it if it were available, but in Annapolis, this is about it. It's a good place for a quick and healthy-ish bite before a movie (the theater is in the same shopping center), but is over-priced and some of the food items are hit and miss.

I've had lunch and dinner here many times. Never ventured past the chicken schwarma and falafel sandwiches and platters. Overall it is usually very tasty with the occasional overly dry falafel. The restaurant never seems to be packed these days; I suspect because of Harbor Center's anchor stores moved/changed. It's a great place for a quick bite.

I'll preface this by saying that I'm half Lebanese, born in Beirut, and I grew up with homemade Middle Eastern food, and to ask any place to compete with that isn't really fair. I've never had a full-blown meal here, but I've dropped in from time to time for hummus, stuffed grape leaves, tabboleh, and other similar treats, and the food has been decent. It feeds the need.

Great food here! I've been to the Lebanese Taverna Cafe twice now, and look forward to going back to try more. I've had the chicken and the kofta sandwich. Both were superb. I ended up getting the kofta on a whim because they didn't have chicken that day, and man it was a great decision. Absolutely loved it! My only minor gripe is that it takes a while to get the food out to you. This isn't a problem per se, but more something to be aware of when you go.

It was my first time there and the menu was confusing. You have to order at the counter, but the prices are sit-down high. I tried one of the chicken meals and it was a bit dry and bland. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing.

Let me start by saying that we have eaten at this place many times over the years and it has always been delicious....but this summer we have eaten there twice and it has been extremely disappointing to the taste buds. I don't know if it has changed owners or what but it is not the same in food quality or staff attentiveness. The first time we went I ordered the falafel pita sandwich and hummus as a side. My falafel was dried out and as hard as a hockey puck which was strange since it took forever to come out of the kitchen. I mean I've had better falafel in the mall...try Mezeh. The second time we went we ordered Kias Platter to share. When ordering this platter you pick 4 mezza items and get chicken or beef shawarma. We ordered the spicy hummus, baba ghannouge, falafel, grape leaves and chicken shawarma. Ok...like I said before we've been here many times and the platter is usually big enough to share for a light lunch. This time the platter was a plate with a tablespoonful of each item. The spicy hummus wasn't spicy, the falafel were still hard and tasteless, we got 1 stuffed grape leaf to share. To be fair, the baba ghannouge & chicken shawarma were ok but honestly if you want delicious middle eastern cuisine at a decent price you have got to try Kabob Connection in the Columbia Mall or Maiwand Kabob in Hanover, Maryland. I will not be wasting my time or money here again.
