This review is just for the Lunch Buffet. After reading a bunch of yelp reviews on how fresh and good this place was I thought I should try the buffet. The buffet consisted of 2 long tables it had a few hot dishes like noodles and chicken. I did not eat the hot food because it didn't look appetizing. There was also soup, salad, fruit, and sushi. There was not much to choose from. There were only about 5 other customers having the buffet and the sushi maker could not keep up with replenishing the sushi because he was also doing regular/take-out orders. The sushi that I did get to eat tasted fair, but since it took so long for them to put any new sushi out I ended up eating mostly salad and fruit. The raw fish mostly consisted of salmon. Not worth $12.95 and 1.5 hours later I had a nice belly ache. The waitress did not speak much English, but she was sweet and considerate. For you reviewers who say she should have more confidence or feel she is too shy should be more culturally aware. The woman walks and presents herself with confidence. Not all cultures boast for people to be loud and in your face especially if you are just a customer and not a friend. If you were to live in a more diverse city you would realize many ethnicity's and cultures find the American way to be loud, obnoxious, and rude.

I like to come here after my fitness class couple doors down from katana. The atmosphere is okay, it's a cozy little restaurant. I like to sit at the bar area personally. There is a tv at the bar. And they play Asian pop music - at least when I was there. I love sushi and I've been here 3x. Overall, the cocktails and sushi has been good. I had good service here and overall a pleasant experience. The rating that I am giving is based off of the three visits.

My boyfriend and I came to the restaurant on a Saturday night a few months ago and was very pleased. Ordered 3 roles plus a chicken main entree. Service was prompt, thought that the quality was very, very good. I was a little alarmed that it was so quiet for a Saturday night, but they are in a shopping plaza that you can't directly can't see off of the street, and a lot of offices- perhaps they cater to more of a lunch crowd.....HUGE specialty roll selections. I didn't patronize but the bar seemed huge and a lot of variety. Very pleased with the restaurant- like many of the reviews here I came because of the groupon- I do think it's a bit high $$ if you did not have a groupon than other sushi restaurants in the area (think more of DC prices than suburb prices), so I think I would keep it for a special occasion, but will definitely be returning.

It's always interesting to me how differently people can interpret and experience a place. To those who said the service isn't top-notch, yeah, you can look at it that way. The GF and I were charmed by the adorable Chinese waitress who couldn't explain every menu selection and every drink, but who was friendly, attentive and gracious, and got us answers to everything we needed. She added a lot to our enjoyment of the place. Not the best place if you're in a hurry, but if you're looking for an intimate, quiet, enjoyable dinner, it's perfect. Katana is located in a strip mall, but on the inside, it's a very nice place, and very well kept. We tried a selection of their rolls, all of which were beautifully presented, fresh, and delicious. It isn't cheap - with a couple of drinks each and a selection of rolls to satisfy 2 hungry adults, we tipped the scale at about $80 with tip, which places it about even with Joss or any of the other premium sushi places around town. At that price, we won't be regulars, but we will be back.

appears to be closed: "lunch buffet" sign; "open" sign in window, but the door is locked and no one answers the phone at 1:55pm on weekday.

I admit I only come here when I get the Groupon or LS deal. It's not the best sushi around, but not the worst. Atmosphere is nice, and they do have some rolls I really enjoy and don't see in other spots in Annapolis. However... they are pretty stingy on soy sauce for take out orders. I let them know the sushi order was for three people to share. He said there was enough in there. Of course when I opened the bag, there was only enough for one. You would think with a multiple roll order there would be enough in there.

Greatly served here with sushi items, I came an old person here who had been coming it this location for long time and he also explain the good qualities of their service. They were so honest and friendly with the customers.

I'm not one for complaining, but man this place sucked. I've tried to go here on two other occasions with no luck because they were closing for the night. But tonight I made it a little earlier! Maybe 40 minutes wasn't enough time, because a server from another area came to take our order. He was the only saving grace for this place, he explained it was his first week but that he'd be more than happy to help us. The service from everyone else sucked, and the food was less than mediocre. Anyways, I wouldn't recommend this spot, there's way better sushi in town, I just wanted to try a the place closest to my house!

This place is tucked away in a shopping center across from the MVA in Annapolis. The decor is cute and simple, and the server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. The server messed up my sushi order, but she promptly corrected it. I ordered the cucumber roll with cream cheese and the asparagus roll with cream cheese. Both were delicious! My sister had the Bonsai roll. Basically, it was tuna, crab meat, and shrimp. The presentation was nice, and she LOVED it. Yes, I will be come back if I am in the area. The server, alone, would make me return. Although her English was choppy, she went out of her way to make sure that my sister and I had a wonderful experience.

My partner and I went here for the first time together last night, it was pretty disappointing. Especially since this is the closest sushi place to where we are, currently, and love everything about Japanese restaurants. So let me start with the fact that I've been here twice by myself to order carryout, both times something was wrong. First the rolls i got had old limp, and even brown mushy cucumber inside them. The second, they forgot the rice for my meal, so i had to go back to the store to pick it up. Now for the fun part. We went there last night with our two tiny dogs, therefore we sat outside. Our server was GREAT, lets make that clear now, he did an amazing job. This time the cucumber wasn't old, but the beer we got expired in the beginning of February, it's the end of April now. The sake i got tasted like an old sponge, it's more likely they just used an old rag/sponge to clean their shot/sake glasses, so gross, it was very obvious. Last but certainly not least, we needed to go home and our server hadn't been out in a little while so I went inside and asked the manager, who happened to be in the front, for the check and TWO boxes to take our food. as i was walking out the manager told our server to only get us ONE box, this i heard very clearly. then, when he brings one box i mentioned in passing the expired beer, he apologized, said he would take it off the check, and i said thank you very much. Then the manager comes out saying that we were wrong about the beer being expired. during this time i'm trying to cram the food into one small box, and i said "i asked for two boxes because i needed them". The manager taps our server on the shoulder and yells "I told you to get two boxes". So i went to the servers defense and i said, "no you didn't, i heard you say, specifically, to only get one box, don't put him to blame now". at that point the manager (probably owner) ran away and didn't come back. How terrible that he would lie to us and throw his server under the bus like that. We won't be back, purely because they are sneaky liars. And we don't know what other corners they are cutting in this establishment.

Was there a couple weeks ago with my boyfriend. We were shocked at how empty it was on a Saturday night. It seemed that we were the only table for a while until another table came in after we had gotten our food. Service was quick since the restaurant was so empty. Our server did not understand much English, so that was a little frustrating when we had questions about the menu. We ended up getting 6 rolls to share: the California Roll, the Green Godzilla Roll, Spicy Scallop, Sweetheart, Bonsai, and I can't remember the name of the last one but it is topped with jalapeño and a spicy sauce. It was all very good and not too pricey, but the menu was a bit unclear. Wouldn't mind visiting again.

We bought the groupon and decided to give Katana a try since we haven't found a great sushi place since moving to the area. Bottom line-- we need to keep looking. First off, I used terms like "maguro" and "tamago" when ordering, and the guy had zero clue what we were talking about, although they're used in their many. Probably should have been my first clue. When we got home and unpacked the sushi, my avocado roll was clearly prepared ahead of time and refrigerated. But the worst was my wife's $9 fatty tuna sushi. Usually a white/pinkish color, these pieces were thin, limp, and gray, and covered in oil of some sort (?). She couldn't even stomache it because it was SO fishy. The oil was all over the other pieces in the container. We won't be back. Gross.

Had the regular sushi plate - average. It comes with miso soup, very fishy, no salad which is disappointing. Had haru maki for appetizer, it was pretty good. Bottled beer (Kirin light) very cold. Service not so great, despite sitting at bar, took forever to get second beer. May or may not go back next time in town.

We have eaten here many times mainly because of the location, convenience and most recently the "Groupon". This place is near Annapolis High School and close to my parents in Heritage Harbor. There is plenty of parking and no wait since it never seems to be crowded. The food is good and it seems to cater to more of the lunch crowd. The sushi bar itself is huge and if I was a business traveler, I would go there often.

Great sushi, super fresh and very good. The special rolls are amazing. Tuna lover was good too, extremely fresh. We wished we would have been given a salad or soup to start with. The service was ok, very fast.

I also used a Groupon here and was surprised at the super friendly and attentive service. The food came out really quick and it was pretty good. I really liked the Chinese music playing in the background. It's cool and a good place for a family dinner. The shrimp yaki soba was amazing. I loved the perfectly cooked noodles and they loaded it with grilled shrimp! I was wishing for a little more noodles. I think I ordered the snow leopard or winter something. It was some kind of season and animal combined in the name. The special roll was huge and very tasty. I need to come back to try the other stuff.

Average Japanese food at best. I wouldn't recommend doing carry out, since for some reason the quality is not as good (or it might have been a coincidence). The teriyaki is awful (it tastes like normal stir fry). The sushi is average but gives you decent options. The miso soup was very watered down the one time I had it.

First of all.. THANKS GROUPON! I had a serious hankerin' for some sushi so popped in here around 8PM on a Friday night. Wow did they seat us fast! I've been in her for a drink but never to eat. It's right off Riva Road in a strip mall. Don't be turned off by that. Some of my favorite places are strip mall finds! Anyway, we went in and were greeted immediately and brought to a booth. It was a little loud but still intimate. They had tons of options for sushi. An entire list of rolls that were very unique - a little pricey but they mostly contained lobster and crab so I was okay with it. Our server was very sweet, very attentive but unfortunately the kitchen was backed up and we waited entirely too long for a couple rolls. She kept apologizing and did ask if we wanted soup or anything while we waited - which we didn't. I am not sure why it took so long, it didn't seem as though the place was that crowded. My only complaint was the waitress asked if we wanted anything with our sushi like spicy mayo or sriracha. Obviously I said "Um... yeah, Sriracha would be great!" When she brought it out with our sushi she said, "This is normally 1.25 but we won't charge you because you were so great about the wait." "Um.. Thanks?" - Pet Peeve in restaurants. If it costs extra, tell us up front. K? Either way. I didn't mind the wait, I was there for the conversation! Sushi was phenomenal. We had a fancy roll, rainbow roll and ...one other. I ordered the Tuna Sashimi and it was literally the best piece of tuna I've ever had in my mouth. Melted on your tongue. I'm sure the "wait" was really just a snafu and I really don't want to hold it against them. The price was a little high it seemed for the sushi. Thankfully the groupon knocked off a few bucks but I'd have to really compare next time I"m somewhere downtown. It seemed like they were "Joss prices". If you catch my drift (Annapolis peeps I'm looking at you).

My wife and I have been going to Katana for at least 2 years. There are other sushi restaurants in Annapolis but we go here 95% of the time. The Green Godzilla, Pinky Boy and Bonsai are our favorites. We recently decided to have sushi at Parole Town Center and regretted not going to Katana!

Another great Groupon find! Clean and simple atmosphere inside and strip mall/business park outside. Everything we had was fresh and tasty. I wasn't completely over the top blown away, but we will definitely come back if we are in the area again.

Always have had a good experience here. We usually come for lunch and get a roll combo---I sub salad for the miso soup. Katana is generally kid-friendly, but there's no changing table in the restroom.

Been here maybe 2 times , it's so so for the price. The sushi is okay , and that's about it , the food isn't good at all . That's probably why they are always empty & always have groupons.

I've only been here once with a few girlfriends, but the sushi and service was spot on. We're big sushi fans and because of that can be a bit picky, but we really enjoyed our dinner. We had several different rolls and sashimi and everything was great. Would definitely go back.

Traditional Japanese music accenting in the back from the bar with an almost new age traditional Japanese theme mixed with a modern setting. Very clean, very incredible service from a server named Jeff, and most importantly amazing food. First stop for food in Maryland, very satisfied.

After a recent visit to see a family member in the area, I stopped by Katana. The plan was to get some sushi rolls and take them home. This seemed like the best plan given the rather uninspiring location in a strip mall behind the CVS. However, the inside was quite lovely and quiet; it made me wish I had decided to eat in! I ordered 3 roll which came quickly and was on my way in no time. The rolls were very tasty and (in the case of the Pinky Boy Roll) bigger than I expected. Overall I will return and next time will choose to eat in.

The Philly rolls are THIS BIG! No seriously, they're much bigger than the ones you'll find at other sushi places. I was pleasantly surprised. :-) I had a groupon for this place, and....I think they screwed up my order, but no matter - I don't think there's a japanese dish I don't like (except octopus/eel, I just can't eat them!) so I ate it, and took the rest of it home. To my great surprise, my mom ate some of my leftovers, so you know it's good when that happens! Unfortunately, Katana is on the other end of town for me, which I'm rarely at, unless I need to go to the minute clinic at CVS. :-( I did love it though, so I will be back, just won't be a frequent visitor.

I went for lunch at Katana Sushi about 2-3 weeks ago. There sushi is priced at the higher end. Most of their rolls are priced at 14-18 dollars. I decided to just go with the Bento Box. The amount of food was a tad disappointing. I would recommend going to Fuji's Sushi which is about 15-20 minutes from this location. I probably won't be going back to this this restaurant.

Used a Groupon here. Sushi is good, Calamari was great, and service was excellent. I give the place a 3 rather than a 4 or 5 b/c of the level of sushi competition in the area.

The sushi is great, and their presentation is top notch. The owner and the sushi chefs are also super-friendly. You can't find this place by accident, but it's definitely worth a go. However, I recommend sitting at the sushi bar. Whenever I sit in the dining room, the service is painfully slow. One time I brought a few friends who heard me raving about the sushi. I was embarrassed for the owner about how bad the server was. She never checked on us once. She didn't bring the check or clear the table until 25 minutes after we had finished.

A Living Social coupon led me to this place, I will be a repeat customer. I was very pleased with the portion sizes of our dishes (I ordered a sushi roll, my fiance got the chicken teriyaki). We thought the food was very good, presentation was excellent and the atmosphere was very zen. My one critique- The server was very soft spoken, almost to the point of being shy, but very polite and helpful. Service with more confidence would be a bonus.

My son likes to go here any chance he can get, but he is only 12 (what does he know about great sushi lol). It is not the best sushi that I have had and the serves is not all that great. The waitress does not understand English that well, which is frustrating. I was asking about Tempura and she thought that I said TERIYAKI. Which I can not understand because I was pointing to Tempura on the lunch special menu. Plus if she has multiply tables, she really sucks! I would recommend Joss or Nano's which are both located downtown Annapolis. Also, Yomato's in Arnold use to have good Tempura.DON'T FORGET THE PLUM WINE!

I just found another Maki that put a big smile on my face--and a few pounds on my hips (smile) so I wanted to pass the word along. It is the Creamy Mango and while not as orgasmic as Snow Mountain, definitely a winner. In fact this one is still better than any other roll I've had anywhere else...(Yes, I know that I am one of those sushi newbies that the other reviewer said is such an idiot as to like mayo sauces, but be that as it may, I just can't imagine anyone not thinking this stuff tastes divine. If you can put aside what it is SUPPOSED to be as opposed to what IT IS, I think you will find that these things definitely make your taste buds sing. And if not, maybe you are just a sushi snob-ha) I do want to give out a bit of a warning though. Normally I go at lunch time during the week but today I went on Sunday around noon. The Snow Mountain while still terrific was decidedly different--and not for the better. It was much smaller than usual and the chef forgot to sprinkle the tempura flakes on top. So, obviously, even though they have a standard "recipe" here, a change of chef makes a difference. Keep your eye out and make sure the flakes are on cuz it makes a difference in the depth of flavor and the complexity of the textures. I also want to acknowledge the waitress that I always seem to have--poor thing she must work 7 days a week. She is so sweet, helpful and accommodating. One day she spent about 10 minutes just going over the sushi menu with me so that I would understand each one and know what was raw and what was not. So, I am still waiting to get an avalanche of comments from all of you Yelpers out there descending on this place like a swarm of locusts to try out the Snow Mountain and then give me a report. And I defy you sushi experts out there not to like it...smile...

I ate here on a Groupon. Even with the $12.50 savings, this place is overpriced for the quality. Sure it's tasty, but let me just say two words: Kani Krab. I understand that Annapolis is having a crab shortage recently because of the cold winter, but it's not fair to charge high end prices for average, at best, sushi. The sushi selection is striped down to bare minimum variety of fish. I sat at the sushi bar, and saw no clam selection and don't even think about uni, Ikura or even flying fish egg. My nephew ordered spicy tuna rolls. I personally don't care for mayonnaise sauces on my sushi, but he liked it. The green tea was very weak and very basic quality. I ordered a regular sushi combo. Again it was tasty, and everything seemed fresh enough, but the whole experience was just OK. The sushi rice itself was very basic, better than buffet sushi because of the freshness, but lacked the extra taste (rice vinegar?) that makes it taste like sushi rice and not just regular japanese rice. I would not pay full price for this restaurant, but that is because I live in Los Angeles and can get better variety and quality for the same price. I am not sure what the other choices in this area are like. Maybe Annapolis is just not the best place to get sushi.

If you don't care about the quality and service of your food, then by all means, check out Katana. If you, like my husband and I, consider yourself a bit of a sushi snob, and love excellent quality, please don't waste your time here! Yes, there are plenty of ok to great sushi restaurants in Annapolis, but hey, we had a Groupon. Not to mention, an EXPIRED Groupon. Groupon does tell you, however, that you still get the amount you paid for it though...so first, as usual, we ordered a "hot" sake to share. It arrived, and I'm not sure about you, but I like my sake to be so hot it almost burns my mouth. This was lukewarm at best. Almost borderline chilled. We sent it back. I'm sure the waiter (who looked like a very stressed out manager) just nuked it. Gross. Anyway, we ordered the basic lunch "3 roll special" and a separate roll. The basic tuna, Alaska, and Shrimp tempura rolls were all just average. Not bad. We were still kinda hungry so we ordered an Eel handroll and the "Dancing Tuna" roll (which states in the description- FRESH crabmeat). Not so much. It was artificial crab. Which I don't mind that much, but I DO mind if you lie to me about it. Strike 2. And he says "that's what all of the crab is here." So then don't EVER misrepresent that it's fresh crab!!! Especially in Maryland! Maybe fresh fake crab out of the sealed bag from Costco! This is appalling. Lastly, we go to pay our bill. The waiter/mgr. says he can't take the Groupon, and gave me a long song & dance about 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation Groupons, which I said I have no idea about and therefore not my problem. Groupon clearly states that the restaurant WILL accept the value we paid. So I told him that, as a manager, he has the right and ability to just take $15 off of our bill. He muttered under his breath (after laughing at me) that he'll just have to take it "out of his wallet." I'm so sure. Needless to say, we will never buy a Groupon for a place we don't know about. I would rather spend too much money at a worthwhile establishment.

Has unique rolls like the Sexy girl roll and sweet mango rolls. These rolls not only looked good, but tasted really good too with the mixture of fruit with typical sushi ingredients like shrimp tempura and crab. But not impressed with the sushi rice. The rice itself was kind of bland. Each dish that is served comes in very large portions, so be prepared. I think the rolls came with 8-10 pieces as opposed to the normal 6-8 pieces. I've had better sushi, but I really can't say what their other dishes are like. Will have to go back and try some more again.

The decor is really nice, and layout creates great spaces for dining. Food is tasty and decent. The green godzilla maki is delicious, as is the ninja maki, and I appreciated the waitress' dedication to their saki and sushi. Pass on the eggplant appetizer... Kind of just fried seeming even though it says baked on the menu. Overall, I would absolutely go back.

Incredibly fast and friendly service, and good sushi! The creamy mango roll was delicious! They did not have low-sodium soy sauce, which was a minus for me, but other than that it was good enough for a quick sushi meal. Very nice decor and atmosphere.
