Chinese food in Annapolis is lackluster, and that is being kind. This is my favorite place by a landslide. It is expensive, but decent. The fried rice is particularly good - they don't dump a lot of soy in and the flavor is decent without having to go overboard on salt and soy. They do deliver, and you can order online. I have not tried the thai food, so I can't really comment on that, but it's decent as far as americanized chinese food.

Food is average. Nothing to get excited about. We recently moved back to this area. Still exploring our delivery options. Ordered delivery at 7:45pm, told 45min-1hour. Delivery arrived at 9:25pm. Called the restauarant to let them know how long it took...manager/owner couldn't have cared less. Wouldn't recommend.

If I could give no stars, I would. It was that bad. Grew up going to this place and it used to be pretty good back then. Got take out tonight for the first time in years and it was inedible...everyone's food was mushy, overcooked and lacked flavor. We all used to be fans but never again. Threw most of it away. I'm all about supporting local, smaller businesses but do yourself a favor and go to Changs or Pei Wei instead.

Close but not quite.... Since moving to Annapolis, my husband and I have been searching for a new Chinese takeout joint. House of Hunan was the closest we've found, but still falls short of our hopes. Between the two of us, we ordered the crab rangoons, the general tso's chicken lunch combo, and the sweet and sour shrimp lunch combo. First, the rangoons arrived with one less than the order was supposed to have. Normally, we'd fight over the odd rangoon, but not these. They tasted of only cream cheese, the crab was hard to pick up. They also seemed to be fried a little too long, but they came with a sweet and sour sauce so that was nice. The sweet and sour shrimp was nothing special, the pieces of peppers, onions and pineapple were too oily to easily pick up with chopsticks. The general tso's had a nice flavor though. Both came with rice and an egg roll, both of which were incredibly bland and disappointing. The portions were alright, considering it was a lunch combo. We are spoiled by large portions from our go-to place back home. They offer online ordering and the delivery was timely and polite. I'd go back only because Annapolis seriously lacks a good takeout place. But I'm continuing my search for better...

The absolute best General Tso's and Egg Foo Young in Annapolis. Surprisingly, it's never too crowded.

Today was the worst day ever ordering from here. I ordered my food at 1:19 and it arrived at 3:49. 2-1/2 hours later. Say What Now? You heard me right. Needless to say they didn't get a tip and I told them I wanted my food for free. I had to stand outside for over 20 minutes cause the guy couldn't find me and he still didn't come. Never again. You all just lost a customer and I was a good one too. Your loss. I enjoyed their food too but I can't tolerate this kind of service. It's piss poor at best. When I first complained they only offered me 20% discount. FREE I SAID! I WANT MY FOOD FOR FREE. They gave it to me but they didn't want to. SMH

Ordered the Kung pao chicken... It was awful. It had NO taste whatsoever. It was the texture of styrofoam. The menu says spicy but it wasn't even slightly hot. Where most Chinese restaurants have some type of vegetable in their Kung pao chicken, this one just had peanuts. Even the white rice that came with the dish was tasteless and a giant sticky ball, like the rice had been sitting out all day. For 11 dollars I could get way better food elsewhere. Will not be ordering from here again. The only reason I gave this place two stars instead of one is because I've only tried this single dish, but I definitely will not be trying more.

Not sure why this place has such high reviews, especially with several other (much better, similarly priced) Chinese places in the area; Court of Shanghai, Jack's Fortune. The decor is nice and the service was friendly, but my food was no good. I ordered the General Tso's chicken lunch, which came with fried rice, egg roll, and soup. None of which were to my liking!! The sauce for the chicken was thick, sticky, and sweet- NOT spicy at all. So I asked for hot oil and THAT wasn't even spicy.. I was given a spring roll, NOT an egg roll as advertised. The wanton soup was too salty. So basically everything sucked. I love Chinese food and I'm not hard to impress. I hardly ever write bad reviews.

Solid Chinese food. We ordered the veggie egg Foo young - lots of different veggies and gravy was good, Tom's special eggplant - very different but tasty. It was an eggplant and shrimp dish with pepper sauce. Order the sauce on the side for the eggplant. Lemon chicken - real basic but my two year old enjoyed dipping and crunching. The fried rice was lack luster but the dine in service was great thanks to the young lady at the front with red hair. She was very pleasant.

Holy crap, I was not expecting Chinese food this good in Annapolis! It was late in the night, and after coming back from the Roadside I was a bit hungry. Ordered the Lamb Hunan Style and Shredded Pork Szechuan Style in Dinner sizes. When staying at hotels, I like to have leftovers for breakfast so order a bit extra. Both orders came in plastic round containers with small cup containers of brown rice (I requested brown rice in lieu of white rice). I gave a special request to make the food 'Chinese spicy' or 'Indian hot', hoping they would understand my plight despite my stark white Caucasian appearance. They did not disappoint! The Lamb Hunan Style was quite unique, its not every day you have a Chinese restaurant offering lamb! The vegetable combination was typical for the Hunan Style and they were all crisp. There were extra chile peppers added and in addition habanero! SCORE! I had also asked for this dish to have no corn starch and the sauce was nice and liquid with all of residual pepper heat - perfect for the dumping the rice into and swirling around. The Shredded Pork Szechuan Style dish also came with extra standard peppers and habanero. Really liked the combination of the shredded veggies with the pork. Definitely another solid winning dish. Yeah, House of Hunan caters to your taste, and will make your order a bit more healthier than usual (ie, brown rice, no corn starch, etc). They also dont use MSG, I asked and they said they dont use it. Next time, I really want to try the Tangy Pheasant dish! Highly recommend this place. They also provided enough dishes (Styrofoam) and chopsticks for 2 eating sessions.

I haven't had much from the menu but what I've ordered has been wonderful! I always order my pad Thai from here because it is perfect! The portions are enough for two meals and it has just enough spice without overdoing it. Would recommend!

First disclaimer about me; I've lived in San Francisco and New York and I really Ike the Chinese food in those places. While it's not fair, that's the standard I am holding to. House of Hinan just doesn't measure up. The hot and sour soup was the best dish we got. It was fairly flavorful and good texture, although we would have liked less cornstarch. Besides that, the food was largely flavorless. The egg rolls had good texture, but little flavor. They were nothing more than a carrier for the duck sauce I love to put on them. The orange beef had decent sauce, but the texture of the fried beef was awful; way too breaded and the beef itself was really, really tough. There was very little orange flavor and little to none spiceness, although it is listed as spicey. The Hunan chicken was absolutely flavorless. The texture of the chicken was good, although, again, way too much breading. The vegetable tasted fresh, although flavorless. I can't attest to the service since I got carry out. We have now tried a couple other places and I can't say they are any better.

Just was hung up pn by the manager. Ordered delivery that included cho cho online and then called in to pay gor the order by credit card. Guy on the line confirmed an order of cho cho. When order arrived minus the cho cho I called to complain. I got "oh sorry" but the order for cho cho did not go through and you were not charged for it. I am sitting here looking and the order on line and I was charged for it. Then a manager got on line with very broken english and told me to clam down he would explain. When I said "explain then!" he said he would fax me good receipt and then HUNG UP ON ME. I WILL BE STOPPING THIS CHARGE AND THEY CAN COME TO MY HOUSE TO GET THE MONEY FOR THIS ORDER MINUS ANY TIP I ORIGINALLY GAVE THEM. Like others have said this food is really kinda bad but I just had hip surgery. Will never go there again and could someone please open a good Chinese restaurant in Annapolis?

2-3 stars..? Maybe 2.5. The food was just Ok. The service was good, but the fact that they deliver is by far the best part. Delivery charge is only $1.00.I thought it was a bit over priced, though. General's Chicken, Lo Mein Noodles, Wan ton soup and (2)spring rolls for $30... meeeah. I see all the "raves" about this place and feel like I missed something... somewhere.

House of Hunan used to be good, but the food is really awful now. The kung pao chicken lacks the variety of flavors it used to have. It now just tasted like a storefront chinese takeout. The hunan vegetables were swimming in the same brown mono-flavored sauce that was on the kung pao chicken. Our request for spicy yielded a lot of red pepper flakes with no heat. We were regulars but I'm sorry to say, we won't be back.

I reviewed this once before because lets face it. I love this place and can't get enough. This past weekend my Mom and I stopped in and tried eating in! They had just redone the entire inside and I didn't even recognize it! I had never eaten there before but always saw a few couples/families when we were picking up take-out. We went on a Sunday around 5. We were the only ones there and they sat us in a booth. A few other couples arrived shortly after but it was very quiet. The service was great - hot towels in between courses. And a nice little fruit plate when they brought our check! I had the Pineapple Chicken which was amazing. It was served in a half pineapple shell. It was sweet salty decadent. I will definitely get it again. My Mom had a Shrimp and Cashew dish which she also loved. We each had a couple glasses of wine. Their liquor selection is very reasonable. They have many fruity house drinks "Pink lady dancing", "Mai Tais" etc. These were all 3-4 dollars! The wine selections were in the 4-8 range. It was a very nice place to kick back and have a few cocktails after a long day of Christmas Shopping! Not sure if they still have the buffet on Sunday's but I hope so because I'd really like to go back!! If you're like me, take-out is usually your go to for Chinese food but this is a nice place if you want to enjoy it out!

Best Chinese food in Annapolis. The sauce for the Hunan and Kung Pao dishes are excellent. They also have available the house prepared mustard which will clean out your sinuses but is excellent. Will not get Chinese food from anywhere else and sadly they do not deliver to my area so I have to pick it up but absolutely worth it.

I enjoyed the food here. Even though it was simple, I loved the decor, the wait staff and the food. To start Gus loved the two huge fish tanks. He just kept going over to look at the fish. I ordered up some veggie dumplings to start - and they were ok - a bit doughy, but ok. For dinner I had the shrimp fried rice, and hubby had peanut chicken. Both were good, not over the top fantastic, but for me, it was comfort food and it was good. Gus ate some, but that's how he rolls. The things that make this a four star instead of three star rating, the service. They were spectacular. They were super polite here, they gave hot towels between meals, and at the end not only do you get a fortune cookie, but you also get a little ball of ice cream (which Gus loved). I would go back - the service was worth it.

My family and I have been coming here for over 15 years. The reason being: the staff is extraordinary and the food is very, very good. If you're in the mood for some rich, spicy American Chinese cuisine, look no further. All of it, from the soups, the dumplings, the spar ribs, the Hunan chicken, Moo Goo Gai Pan is top shelf. But, the true tasty winner is the dry crispy beef - it is the best dish on the menu. (Fair warning: it doesn't reheat well; you can't get it crispy again but it's just as flavorful.)

Good grief. So they remodeled and had a grand reopening. So they reworked the interior but how about the food? We ordered takeout and sat at the new five stool bar. The menu was newly printed, but did not reveal anything different than the last, except maybe for some typos that were fixed and prices that went up. They have always done a decent job with Kung Pao protein, be it chicken, beef or shrimp. They followed the classic preparation which is with peanuts and hot peppers only. No green peppers or onions, celery or other additives. Their fried rice, although so overpriced, usually came grease free. So we ordered the KP with chicken and the FR with shrimp. Our third selection was the Szechuan Pork. I asked what vegetables came with this entree and they said celery and carrots. I asked them to not include celery. C'mon, we all know this is a filler as it adds absolutely nothing to the final product. The thin julienned carrots at least added some sweetness and visual appeal. Well we got home and I opened our containers. I started digging in the Pork dish and found, yikes, my most hated Asian add on - water chestnuts. I don't know.... are they a vegetable? Can't they disclose this? So I picked like a fussy two year old until I was satisfied the crunchy imposters were removed. Final conclusion - two Szechuan dishes and not a pepper in sight. Bland, boring and absolutely no heat. Some of the chicken pieces in the KP resembled the ones you got in the "Bourbon" preparation at any food court in the mall. The mystery pieces of poultry coming from who knows what part of the chicken, were tough and gristly. The pale rice was dotted with the medium shrimp, a piece of scrambled egg or two, some peas and onion. Really? Is the American palate so dumbed down that we can't even get some flavor in our Chinese takeout? I give up on expecting something better from the Annapolis Chinese scene. Apparently the popularity of dishes like the fried, and heavily sauced poultry pieces known as General Tso's chicken continues to serve as the benchmark of what proprietors think the public wants from a Chinese restaurant.. Sadly, our palates prefer something a bit more refined.

I typically skip the Americanized dishes at a Chinese restaurant, but with this place I just couldn't resist! I highly recommend their general tsos chicken, shrimp egg foo young, and crispy beef. The staffs are very friendly and attentive, and the hot towels are a great touch. Every time I'm in the Annapolis area for a visit with my family, we'd be sure to stop by this joint!

I work in one of the nearby stores and love to frequent this place for my dinner breaks. I mostly order the crab rangoon because they give you six BIG pieces so I don't need a main entree. The only disappointment is that the cream cheese flavor is missing but dipping it in the sweet and sour sauce they provide makes up for it. I've also had the beef lo mein which was also very good, the egg drop which was lacking the chicken brothy flavor, and fried wontons which were not what I expected. Overall I enjoy this place and plan on visiting often.

  • Eric L.

I ordered the dinner special that included some awesome General Tso's Chicken, egg roll and friend rice. The egg roll was horrible but everything else was excellent and a hefty portion. I would definitely recommend this to others.

I'm not quite sure why there are so many positive reviews for this place. I only ordered from here because of all the positive things you all had said. Sadly, this was a HUGE disappointment. After being told I needed to order $25 dollars worth of food to deliver to Eastport- I added on a side of dumplings. Essentially I ordered $30 worth of food for one person. The dumplings were awful and dry. My wonton soup tasted like dish soap. The only redeeming quality was the General Tso Chicken, but it was lacking broccoli. If you are going to advertise $15 delivery minimum please stick to that. I sincerely wish I had canceled my order and saved myself the $30. You can guarantee I will never order from here again.

Good Chinese food. Outstanding service. For vegans, there is a vegan menu which is great. They're getting ready to renovate soon. Friendly waiters. I strongly recommend the vegetarian beef w/ mixed vegetables. Best Chinese in Annapolis.

This is our favorite Chinese carry out place, and we're never disappointed. The sesame chicken is great, and adding an order of crab Rangoon to your meal is always well worth it. They also usually have native English speakers at the front desk and answering the phone which makes ordering easy.

The competition of Chinese food in Annapolis isn't stiff, but this joint's food was not very good. The sweet and sour sauce tasted weird and the best thing I can say about it is that it was essentially flavorless. It was neither sweet nor sour.Call me old fashioned but I want my Chinese take out or delivery to be greasy fried food that will potentially give me a heart attack. It should have the ability to harden the arteries of my unborn children. This was like flavorless health food or something. The steamed rice I had was cooked perfectly and the inside of the restaurant itself seemed to be very nice. I am sure there is something on the menu that tastes good, but the sweet and sour pork was so horrible, I couldn't bring myself to go back.

Garlic chicken is terrific and they go to great lengths to prepare their food so it is not as fattening as most Chinese food. The staff is as good as it gets -friendly, attentive with a good sense of humor.

Hidden gem behind the facade of a suburban strip mall. Food and service is 5-star. Hot towels between each course. Unique dishes you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere - shrimp toast and shrimp stuffed eggplant has no equal. Garlic chicken is the best I've ever had.

  • Gary R.

I've been going to this restaurant for 22 years and it as good now as it was then. Their dishes are accurately Chinese, but lacking the fillers (carrots, peas, water chestnuts) that most other cheap Chinese carry-out places ruin their dishes with. Service is almost annoyingly good. Each meal is finished off with a hot steaming towel and a nice plate of fruit.

  • Emily O.

This is by far the best quality Chinese take out I have ever had. Good service and very clean if you eat-in too! I ordered the sesame chicken and vegetable egg rolls very fresh ingredients and not greasy and old like other Chinese take out places.

Expensive for Chinese food. Right size in the combinations for one person. I you want to care from salt and soy sauce you will like it.

My husband and I have eaten at the restaurant twice, but this is (I mean WAS) our go to for Chinese delivery in Annapolis. The food is decent but the customer service is TERRIBLE. We have ordered from here numerous times and our order has not be right a single time. We thought when they started taking online orders that things would improve, but it actually got worse. My latest order was veg. lo mein, beef and broccoli, lg. wonton soup, two lg white rice, and two cokes. I received a call from their female employee stating that they did not have cans of coke. I asked what else they had for soda and was told that the driver had already left. Why not call me BEFORE he leaves to see if I would like to substitute something else?? Ok, its soda, not a big deal. Except for the fact that EVERY time we order soda (over the phone or online) they magically forget to bring it and we've even been charged for it a few times. When I finally got my order they had forgotten the 2 lg white rices AND the lg wonton soup, but don't worry they STILL charged me for it! I called to complain and have it delivered and went back and forth for 20 mins on the phone trying to get everything straight. I am now waiting for the rest of the order...I'm not optimistic. I have no idea how they're still in business. Here's my advice: Don't order from here. If you must, make sure to ask for someone other than the female employee because I guarantee you she will screw up your order every single time. Every time I have talked to her she has NO clue what is going on. She told me I had to speak to her because she took the order, but then blamed the mistake on the kitchen and thought that meant the conversation was over. Oh, and make sure to check your order BEFORE the driver leaves and make sure you weren't charged for something you didn't order. The ONLY positive is that the delivery guys are always really nice.

Good selection on combination lunch. Love their spicy kungpao chicken, it's so delicious!!! For $7, it cones with egg roll and fried rice, decent price...

  • Ethan R.

Just ordered the general Sao chicken. The sauce was sludge and the chicken had little to no taste. The rice was "ok". Even the fortune cookies were stale. It is also very expensive considering the small portion size compared to other Chinese places. Would not order again.

  • Hugh N.

We were feeling lazy and ordered in on a week night from Hunan. WOW! The hot and sour soup and wonton soup in large were enough for a meal on their own. The spring rolls had large pieces of shrimp and were great. We were full by the time we got to the shared entree of beef and broccoli but it was worth feeling gluttonous to finish that tasty plate.

    (4)
  • Elly T.

Got take out today from here. Huge variety of selection and staff was very friendly. Would select again. Wonton soup has a great broth and was the wontons were soft. I also ordered the pork lo mein. Good sauce and meat consistency. Portion was too big, good leftovers I guess.

  • Arcadia W.

I ordered General Tso's Tofu (I'm a vegetarian) and ended up with some spongy tofu balls with thick gooey slimy stuff in the sauce, I asked for broccoli and got maybe 2 little pieces of broccoli. It was so gross and the fact that they charge 12$ for this is even worse. I've ordered this before and it was great, not spongy but thick slices of tofu the sauce was great and not all watery like it is now. But the last couple of times have been so awful. I will NOT be buying again. Vegetarians beware.

Kind of expensive for Chinese food, but you get what you pay for. They're clean and they have the typical Americanized Chinese food suspects if you don't feel like being brazen. I do question why places like this insist on adding other cuisines to their menus (i.e. Thai food). It takes away from your authenticity, unless that's really their prerogative. The service is a little on the slow side, even with just 2 other tables around, but the food was solid. Beef in orange sauce, moo shu pork, shrimp spring rolls, hot and sour soup, roast pork lo mein, and house egg foo young were all pretty good. This is THE ONLY decent Chinese restaurant in Annapolis!

Ordered lobster in Sichuan style , to me it's like shrimp stuck together into a ball. I should be alert when the waiter told me that it comes in chuck in stead of a whole lobster :( Not sure about other dish, but don't order lobster

Where do I start??? My girlfriend and some of her friends wanted Chinese take out. Since my goto Court of Shanghai was closed, they ordered here. I went to pick everything up and was assured that everything was there by the only person I saw in the restaurant (10:30pm). I come home to separate everyone's orders. When everything was opened up, my girlfriends Hunan beef was labeled correctly on the box but was orange chicken inside. The fried rice looked terrible. The peas looked canned and the rice looked drenched in soy. I took a taste of the rice and just terrible. How can a Chinese restaurant screw up fried rice??? Her friends fried rice looked like white rice. The peas at least looked decent in this one. Egg rolls were mushy. Half the order was just thrown away. At least they got the fortune cookies right.

Fantastic! I order chicken with snow peas almost everywhere and this was one of the best I've ever had. Great taste, sauce not too thick or goopy. Everything just right. Good sized portions for the price, and really fast and cheerful service. My boyfriend got the general tso's chicken and he really liked it as well. Better yet, they give you hot towels, fortune cookies and a tiny bit of strawberry ice cream after your meal! Much better Chinese food than anything in Baltimore.

We are local and we go here all the time for "restaurant high-quality Chinese"; nice ambience and great owner named Tom. Try the crispy eggplant! Don't be fooled by House of Hunan 2 in Cape St Claire, they are not the same owners or staff!

I tried their hot & sour sour as an appetizer and it was horrible. It was bland and tasted like dirty water. Then I had the Hunan beef over rice. It was just marginal. I expected it to be spicy, but it the spices were barely noticeable. I give it 1 star based on Chinese food I have eaten in San Francisco's & Oakland's China town.

My boyfriend and I have been To House of Hunan a few times now and it is our favorite Chinese restaurant to eat at. They have a wonderful staff that is very polite and quick. Their service includes hand towels after your food as well as a small dessert dish at the end. The food is excellent, I've tried at least five different things on their menu from the seafood and chicken variety and it's all spectacular. The only thing I didn't particularly like was their decoration, but for what they serve, and how they serve it, it could be in a parking lot, I would still eat there.

Boy, this has to rank as one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had. I have not been to this place in years--I found it pretty dreadful back then and after several tries, never went back. But, with such good Yelper reviews, I thought it warranted another attempt. (I guess I should have checked those review dates more carefully...) At any rate the Sunday dim sum brunch sounded awesome and since I haven't had decent dim sum since I moved into this deprived town, I was thrilled to know it was available nearby. So, I completely rearranged my schedule, up-ended my routine and was so fired up to try all the delicious sounding dishes that were advertised on the restaurant's website menu. I walked into the restaurant and found a young man who seemed non too happy to be there and even less happy to have to deal with a customer and asked about the buffet. We don't do that anymore he said--not too many people came. Whhhaaaaatttttttttt???????? Then why is it still listed on your website????? Well, I was hungry so decided to stay and sat down to the same dirty, sticky oil cloth table covers they had when I was last there 3 million years ago. I started with the vegetarian eggroll and have to admit it was the best in town. It was a bit undercooked and pale, but still crispy. And what made it remarkable was that the filling was fresh, crispy vegetables. I have to compare this place to Jack's Fortune Restaurant because they both seem to have ambitions for upscale Chinese food--with artistic, decorated plates, and lovely presentation of food. Jack's eggroll is cooked to a better golden brown consistency, but their filling is mushy and cannot be ordered without the pieces of pork, and I would bet it is a premade filler from Sisco or somewhere. So it was great to really get a decent eggroll. Both restaurants have pretty good duck and mustard sauces that seem in-house made. And the hot towels in between courses was a nice touch although I wanted to use them to scrub down the disgusting wallpaper I was sitting next to and which has obviously not been cleaned since the last millenium or two. The dirty plastic holder advertised that they are now doing sushi--this speaks of either desperation or a Japanese chef is now running the kitchen For my entree I ordered Gen Tso's Chicken and received an overly cornstarched gloppy bland sauce over soft pieces of dark meat chicken chunks. There was literally almost no crunch to them at all. The rice was mushy and I decided to pack it in and cut my loses. ($21.00 before tip) The little scoop of ice cream with the bill was nice but what a HUGE come-down from the buffet lunch I was expecting to have! I was the only customer when I arrived, and the only one when I left--a couple came in and seemed unhappy that the entress did not come with anything but rice. But I thought I heard them order, yet the next thing I knew they got up and left HoH gives off a vibe of a failing place--unhappy, dirty, ripped rug and all, which is sad because with some minor adjustments and a major scrubbing, they could be really top-knotch. I might go back for an eggroll crave, but when in the mood for Chinese, I will either go to Jack's with their happy, welcoming people and VERY clean interior, or I will bribe someone to drive me out of this barren wasteland. ****************************************************************************** I wanted to add a followup--later in the afternoon, I got a headache and major heartburn which made me wonder if they use MSG??? ****************************************************************************** P.S. I went back to Jack's to give them another try and found that they have a Vegetarian Roll that is almost as good as the HoH Eggroll--filling much fresher than their mushy eggroll. So, now I don't have to step foot in this grimy place again...yeah!

Leaps and bounds the very best chinese in the Annapolis area. I've tried them all and if you're looking for authentic accuracy and wide variety this is the place for you. Now this review is strictly from a carry-out perspective as I've never set foot in the dining room (but it is resplendent with the usual fish tanks full of huge goldfish etc). I've recently finished touring their vegetarian menu (Bean Curd Hunan Style to be precise) and have never had a bad dish yet. My benchmark dish for any chinese restaurant is Kung Pao Chicken. At Hunan you get green onion, chicken, peanuts, hot peppers, and sauce which is how it's supposed to be - amazing how many places you go to you find green peppers, mushrooms, water chestnuts (yuck) and all sorts of other filler items that have no business in this recipe. One of my favorite sleeper dishes that alot of people probably avoid because of it's unusual name is Chicken with Fresh Hot Pepper. It's sort of a Kung Pao stir fry without the peanuts and instead has lots of serrano chilis, big hunks of sliced garlic cloves, and green pepper. You don't have to ask for this spicy - it will melt your hair off if you like it that way (I do). They offer a number of reasonably priced (5.95-7.95) lunch specials that include egg roll and fried or steamed rice. Lunch portions are huge but of course I never have leftovers. A soup entry to try is the Shredded Pork and Pickled Cabbage - an unusual take on Hot & Sour. Another favorite of mine here is the Singapore Style Rice Noodle - thin rice noodles with yellow curry and mixed vegetables and meats (chicken, beef, and pork). Hunan is one of the only places in the area that offers Chow Foon noodle dishes which are wonderful and very authentic. If you do eat in here they have a supplemental menu that changes periodically and offers chef specials such as the Hong Kong Pork Chop (grilled center cut chops with a wonderful hosin/chili glaze). I don't eat dinner here often so I have yet to explore fully the supplemental menu thoroughly - everything on it sounds fabulous. Lastly if you long for Dim Sum in the Annapolis area and don't want to go to DC, Hunan has a Sunday buffet that includes tame but effective Dim Sum entries (no Tripe here, sorry!) and a great assortment of desserts. Dim Sum Buffet is 12-4 on Sundays. The wait staff is very friendly and if you have the good fortune to meet the owner Tom you'll be glad you did - a wonderful soul indeed. Only 4 stars because I don't think we'll ever see a 5 star chinese place in this area - not enough chinese food snobs like me to support it! If you're looking for 5-star go to Peking Gourmet Inn in Arlington VA. Editor's Note: Ate in here recently and doesn't change my review or rating however it's worth mentioning you get hot towels before you begin your meal. That's always nice - I did order hot tea and never got it but I think that was a communication breakdown - I'm pretty sure the staff was shocked that I was sitting in the dining room for the first time ever. I could be wrong but I think portion sizes might be a little larger in carry out!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
