Just happened upon this delightful little Deli on our way to Ocean City. We were looking for Jimmy Johns and fortunately for us we didn't find it. Truly authentic Italian. One word...Porketta...the best sandwich I ever had. Just order one you won't be disappointed. The people couldn't be nicer and we bought some nice Italian beer and wine for the beach on the way out. We'll be back.

I came here to pick up a picnic lunch with my parents. I love a good, traditional Italian deli and this was exactly that. All three of us were extremely happy with our delicious, fresh sandwiches. We called the order in ahead and one of the sandwiches was wrong when we got there. They were extremely fast at replacing the sandwich and fixing the order and the owner took care of us personally, apologizing for the inconvenience. It was great to see a locally owned business doing so well and the mistake was fixed so quickly, I didn't mind the extra time to browse all the Italian goodness offered in the store. The cannoli and tirimisu looked so tempting! I didn't get any dessert this time around but I will next time! My sandwich was huge! I was stuffed by the time I finished eating and it was the smaller of the two sizes! Don't get me wrong- I was stuffed but kept eating until there was nothing left but a few crumbs. All the ingredients were so fresh and it had real mozzarella on it. Mozzarella is one of those cheeses that is so different fresh from the rubbery, plastic-tasting cheese that you find in your average grocery store. It makes a world of difference and the sandwich was priced at a very fair, reasonable price. Overall, for the same price, the sandwiches at Giolitti Deli were a great value!

We visit Annapolis every so often as my brother is at the USNA. This was our first time here and I'm so sad we just barely discovered this little Italian gem!! We walked in and were blown away at how much it looks like those small markets we passed while walking the streets of Florence. Absolutely gorgeous! THE FOOD: I have to warn you: unless you get a sandwich, I'm pretty sure everything is reheated via microwave. I'm not 100% sure, but from where we sat, I could see at least 3. Despite this, we ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese, Orecheitte, Meat Lasagna. All of it was delicious! We also enjoyed some prosciutto and baguette pieces: perfection. We finished the meal with a cappuccino, and a bottle of wine (to go!) THE SERVICE: I was impressed by how much the owner (who's originally from Milano) is involved with his customers. As this is a market as well as a delicatessen, he is everywhere helping people! There were a few other ladies around who were also very helpful, they appear to be particularly knowledgeable of the wine they sell. It was also warming to see that so many of the customers were regulars. We'll definitely be back!!

Have been here twice. First time I had the porketta, and second time had the steak and cheese. Both blew my mind for the price to quality ratio. Will be back a lot more.

My girlfriend and I love going here for sandwiches. The best sandwich in Annapolis hands down! Great service and friendly staff too.

First time here. Had the porchetta Sandwhich and tomato basil soup which we split and it was plenty. Clean and friendly. Sandwhich was great. Bread used was outstanding. Will definitely be back.

Okay - tried my Italian sandwich again, and this time the regular soft roll. Awesome as always. Also did some Christmas wine shopping there. They have a unique selection at reasonable prices.

Best Italian deli in Maryland reminds me of New York. Best sandwiches hands down in Maryland. Tired of tuna salad? Try Tonno Italiano. You won't be disappointed. No mayo, olive oil, hot peppers, capers, drizzled with balsamic, provolone and lettuce. Great bread and an awesome Italian market with tons of imports. Worth the stop for lunch.

Having grown up in a predominantly Italian neighborhood in New York -- as well as in our own family deli in "da Bronx" -- I am admittedly a bit of a snob when it comes to Italian food. For me, Giolitti's Deli in Annapolis is a little piece of heaven. The name "deli" is a touch misleading, because it has a sizeable dining-in area. The food is uniformly tasty, the service is fast, and the portion sizes are good. A personal favorite is pepperoni calzone at lunchtime. My company periodically orders lunches from Giolitti's, and everyone always rave about their antipasti and sandwiches. Quite understandably. I have not yet tried their selection of take-home, homemade ravioli, gnocchi, and sauces, but that's next on my "belly list". (You have a Bucket List. I have a Belly List. Don't judge me.) Their desserts are very appetizing; they have phenomenal gelato (the rum raisin is ri-di-cu-lous!) and canoli. The staff is competent, friendly, and fast. The only down side for me is the fact that as I walk from the parking garage to my gym across the street, I can see Giolitti's Deli off to my right. Beckoning me. Taunting me. Hmm...which will it be today: Stomach crunches, or a calzone? Unfortunately, those who know me can guess what the answer usually ends up being. Leave the gym bag; take the canoli.

Giolitti's is first and foremost a deli. It doesn't have fancy table service, but the food is very good! Very consistently good! If you're looking for great carry-out with a nice bottle of wine, they've got everything you need under one roof!

We have been trying to find a Philly quality sandwich in Maryland for three years and this is the closest we have come. Great Italian sandwich, tastes like a hoagie from Philly. Also got the Caprese which was great, looking forward to trying other items on the menu.

I wanted to love this place, a lot. It is homemade. What can be better than a homemade meal in town, for less than $8.5 for a giant dish of pasta and bread? My biggest gripe is their customer service. It was my first visit here, I went on a quick stop in for lunch, I walked in and went right to the counter after looking around trying to make sense of the place. And here started my biggest issue, where to order? It made total sense to go to the register when there are NO clear sign's stating, ORDER HERE, or anything resembling a place to order. But I was ignored, as if me holding my wallet in one hand and my card in the other was there to show I own a piece of plastic and standing there is FUN! I stood there for 5 minutes, as the staff talked among them shelves, and ignored me. It isn't like there is a clear menu anywhere besides where the deli is, and I didn't want a sandwich so finding out what else they have was somewhat nerve-racking. I was apologized to roughly four times from the lady who took my order. She referenced to the fact that she was just ignoring me, and kept telling her co-workers of what she did. :-| As I ordered, she made it vocally clear I was a new customer, she asked the regulars about the food, while pointing this out to them, and just made the whole thing awkward. As she felt compelled to check with them about the dishes, and their quality, and how good they were, compared to what I might want to order, I got my food, sat as far away from the front of the counter, and though I enjoyed my meal, the experience leading up to that point made me want to leave and fast. I doubtfully will return, unless I am with someone else, or a small party, as I just feel awkward being in that sort of position. It's great food, just strange how they act to their new customers. 3-stars.

This Italian deli is amazing . Love all the homemade pasta . I had the porchetta sandwhich and it was just amazing , so big I split it with my co worker

They have an excellent caprese sandwich AND an excellent Greek salad -- the two things I keep getting over and over when I go there for lunch. They're fast with processing their orders, and they have a nice market section to buy pastas, sauces and wine. The only negative is that you have to spend a minimum of $10 to use a credit card... just a head's up about that!

I can't give any stars because I went in today on my way to work and while there were several employees milling about, making orders, putting items away and talking, I stood there for a full 5 minutes and not only did no one even bother to acknowledge my presence but they went about their business as though I had on a cloak of invisibility. I couldn't believe they just acted like I wasn't there! I was the only customer in the store at around 11:30 a.m.!!! I just left and took my money to Whole Foods Market across the street. I'll never go back! What a terrible feeling that was!

On my way to a different sandwich shop, I saw Giolitti's. Thank goodness. Background: I'm a Jersey-raised pizza and sandwich snob. In my world, 'edible' is pretty high praise for a slice of pizza. This kind of Italian deli/grocery is my kind of oasis, and Giolitti exceeded my expectations. I had their Roman Italian sandwich, which was damn near perfect. Great lil' chew on the Prosciutto, perfect balance of flavors, and the Italian Baguette was spot-on-perfect. Not sure if I was moaning while I ate it. Ok, I probably was. The atmosphere was great. Employees were smiling. Customers were smiling, and I heard many greeted by name. That is a Big Deal. There's a high ceiling with windows all around to let in a ton of natural light. It was a fine spring day when I visited, which didn't hurt, either. Product selection was fantastic, and fun to look at while I ate my sandwich. Well-noted was the nice selection of local beers. I had a nice chat with Nazzareno, the GM. He's a native Italian, and I could tell he wanted to make the place the absolute best he could. He came to Giolitti after a stint at a much-revered Italian Deli/Grocery in Baltimore. He's doing a great job. When a guy like Nazzareno offers to make you a cappuccino, you say, "Yes please!" I thoroughly enjoyed mine, served properly in an 8oz ceramic mug. Like a good traditional Italian cappuccino, this was a delightful cup of espresso-infused foam, not the dismal 20oz paper cup with loose foam scooped on top of underextracted coffee nonsense we've been led to believe is normal. I don't expect this kind of magical experience every time I go back, but honestly the sandwich and capp were so fantastic, they've got me as a customer for good.

Went for lunch today and got the porchetta sandwich. It was simple and done well: juicy and tender pork sliced thin with broccoli rabe, carmelized onions, and provolone served warm on a good Italian roll.

I had the best Italian sausage & peppers sandwich I have ever had. I would love to get this sausage at home, but it will have to be only when I'm in Annapolis for the Army /Navy basketball game is happening. By the way, my wife's pepperoni calzone was just OK, so stick with the sausage.

Giolitti is just a simple, semi-authentic family owned Italian deli that just happens to be one of my favorite spots to get a cheap lunch in Annapolis. I go there for the sandwich. That's all I know. The Italian sandwich, ordered on fococcia rather than ciabatta. It's really good. REALLY good. I can't vouch for the rest of the menu. I did pick up some frozen dinners once and I remember enjoying them thoroughly.

I travel to Annapolis from Jersey periodically to visit relatives and after numerous poor experiences with local pizzerias, I decided I would scour the area based on Yelp reports to see if I can one that comes remotely close to New York/New Jersey pizza. I've been very fortunate in having many excellent pizzerias in my neighborhood as well as having sampled great Manhattan and Brooklyn joints over the years, so the bar was set pretty high. Sadly, none of the local Annapolis offerings came close. Giolitti's is first and foremost a deli, so pizza is not the focus here. It borders almost on pretentious (think "Dean & DeLuca") but I didn't come there for the atmosphere. This was the last of the locations I was trying out and it was late in the day, so I decided I might as well as order some pies to go (I had family waiting for my return and findings). In the meantime, I ordered what they called their Sicilian slice. I guarantee that if you lined up 50 New Yorkers and asked them what they were looking at, no one would identify it as Sicilian. Barely 1/4 inch thick, it had more of a cracker consistency to it than bread dough. The sauce tasted more like a pasta marinara rather than pizza sauce and it was topped with the same tasteless mozzarella I encountered in other Annapolis locations--same supplier, perhaps? I understand it's their take on Sicilian--but I wouldn't order it again. The regular pies didn't survive the ten minute trip back home. On arrival, the slices were completely limp, had not crust to speak of, and the sauce/cheese issues came through again. I don't recall the price, but they weren't cheap for the size.

The food was very good but the service wasn't. The staff were very disorganized resulting in orders being backed up. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day.

Five star Italian sandwiches and lasagna. Everything else is less predictable. The five star rating is because I have not found an Italian sandwich anywhere in Maryland that even comes close to the quality of Giolitti's. I get the "Italian" with everything on a hard roll (which actually isn't as crusty as what I got used to in other areas, but is still good). Quick service, and you're in and out of there for less than $10 with a drink! This is a regular place for me to eat.

My new favorite place in Annapolis! This is the bait my wife now uses to get me to accompany her to Whole Foods, a place I generally avoid at all costs. The food is delicious, the service friendly, and the prices reasonable. Plus, they have beer and wine! My best find has been the bake-at-home sfogliatelle. They're may favorite Italian pastry, and now I can have one or two fresh from the oven whenever I like. Well done, Gioletti!

Food has always been great ! Italian on focc is my go to sandwich. As of late though , pickles are being slivered thinner and the sandwiches are lacking girth. A smile and thank you would be nice when paying . Usually don't get that. Seems like they do payroll up front in the restaurant area. I know the place may be small but that's just tacky. I get it though , places everywhere are cutting back ... just not the prices ....

I'm giving this place 4 stars cause I absolutely love their grilled cuban pannini. The pork, smoky ham, sharp mustard, chesse and crunchy tangy pickle combine to make a perfect symphony of flavors. The fact that it is served on their excellent Italian hearth bread and grilled, just brings everything to a higher level. It is always on their special board, and even though Cuba is pretty far from Italy, they know how to make this great sandwich. It's also a pretty good deal considering you can get an ample half portion for $3.50. A bargain considering a 6" at Subway will strip 4 bucks out of your wallet. Other items, however, run hot and cold. The whole loaves of bread are excellent and so are the Italian deli meats, but the prices are just crazy. I don't understand paying $5 or more for yeast, water and flour. Prices go up for foccacia since I guess a sprinkling of rosemary is as valuable as gold. Their frozen pizza dough isn't as good as Trader Joe's, .99 cent ball so there is no reason to switch. Still, I'm glad to see this place flourish. Anything locally owned that carries quality stuff is a plus, even though some items may put a dent in your budget.

I am a big fan of this place. Yes, it can get busy and you sometimes have to wait but the sandwiches more than make up for it and the staff area always friendly. Be warned, this restaurant can become addicting. The subs, lasagna and pizza are awesome and the take and bake foods are to die for. Do not go in there thirsty or you may up with more bottles of wine then you bargained for. Call ahead and order to avoid having to wait if you are in a rush.

The food is fantastic. I always order the vegetarian sandwich with extra dressing on the side. The focaccia is so damn good it's ridiculous. Their sauces are wonderful. Their desert is wonderful. And I love the small market feel inside with the Italian imports & wine selection. Two things: The older lady who works here isn't very friendly. Seriously, I'm not sure I've ever seen her smile. Don't order the pizza for children... it may also be called the thick crust pizza. It tastes very mediocre and anyone could make it.

We went here for lunch and were surprised and impressed. It is a cute Italian deli with a large amount of seating and some good fresh made sandwiches! We split a Roman and Italian Cold Cut sandwich and were impressed with both! There was a nice oil and vinegar based dressing and it was packed with meats and cheese. It also has a variety of meals to go as well as wine and beer. We will definitely return.

Now this is what a deli should be like, lots of fresh ingredients, lots of people, yummy bread, and true Italian meats, chesses, and PASTAS!! The place was busy when my friend and I arrived. I ordered the cuban panini sandwich, it was AMAZING!! The bread was a little burnt but the shredded pork and ham that was inside was soooooo tasty. My friend ordered a turkey sandwich and said the turkey was some of the best she's ever had. I also took home the antipasto salad with salami, artichoke hearts, and an assortment of olives, it was the best salad I've ever had. I was so tempted(and I should have)to buy an assortment of olives and stuffed mushrooms but I passed, next time I wont! Do yourself a favor and get down here, lots of fresh food, and true ITALIAN deli.

It's everything I want in a deli and more! Well ok, it does remind me of some delis I grew up with (I am from NY). We went for an afternoon lunch. It was not overly crowded but they have two dining areas, very causal and open. The food was wonderful, Neil had a muffaleta sandwich and I enjoyed a vegetarian. Both delish! Fountain drinks and some bottled/canned drinks available. They also had fresh breads, ricotta and some other Italian delicacies available. We also took home some frozen pasta and marinara. I can't wait to try the different menu items next time. Also check out their dry goods and wine selection, it's a nicely rounded out inventory. Also if you go, try the chocowine if you get a chance, just yum!

What a great deli! Fresh breads, pastas, sauces--they really nail the tastes of Italy. Friendly and fast service and one of the best casual atmospheres.

So, after many many years of hearing how good Giolitti's is, I finally got to give it a try. After a shopping trip at ATC my Mom, sis and brother-in-law dropped in for some authentic Italian fare. Except for my Mom, none of us had been there before and all four of us were pleased with our lunches. We ordered the veggie sandwich and two different calzones. Everything was delicious. My only regret is that we stopped in a few hours before I had to fly back to San Diego so I couldn't load up my suitcase with their prepared sauces and dishes that they sell out of the refrigerator case.

Our favorite place in Annapolis. We live in Bethesda, but feel that the 35 min drive is well worth it. Delicious bread, Cesar salad, manicotti, and spicy sausage. Tiramisu was incredible. Counter service but they bring it to your table, cheap prices, and lots of great Italian food to bring home at the grocery. Highly recommended!

Great food and atmosphere. Plenty of daily specials or have them make you something custom, either way you can't go wrong here! Small on parking but there is the garage across from Whole Foods for a short walk.

My husband and I found this hole-in-the-well deli while searching for a new gourmet sandwich shop to try. After reading all the good reviews, we couldn't pass it up. Upon walking in, we were a little confused with the menu and were to order. I ordered the Genuine Italian Cold Cut and my husband ordered the Roman sub. The sandwiches were amazing! The hard Italian bread was very delicious, the meats were flavorful, and the vegetable toppings, fresh. The atmosphere inside is quite unique with a full deli, wall of wines, and mini market which reminded me of being in Italy. We will definitely be back here.

The best Italian Deli in Annapolis. I eat here at least three times a week. I usually get the sandwich special, but all the food here is great. They also have a nice selection of wines from around the world. and homemade deserts. Five Stars all the way on this one

My mom and I visited Giolitti again this afternoon. We shared a french dip (toasted foccacia, tender roast beef, buttery provolone, hearty au jus) and sundried tomato and pinenut penne pasta salad. While waiting for our order, we perused the market area of the deli. There were several wines available for tasting. While we didn't particularly care for the varieties on sample, it was a nice gesture. The sandwich was perfectly heated: the provolone was soft and pliable and the beef was juicy. The penne was as perfectly turgid as before. After finishing our lunch, we visited the dessert counter. We were offered a sample slither of Italian rum cake, Oh my! moist, lightly sweet and sinfully rich. My mother ordered a slice of Italian rum cake, amaretto chocolate cake, one other (the name of it escapes my mind) and tiramisu. We ate the tiramisu while battling in traffic on the way home. I think that if everyone had someone to feed them this tiramisu while sitting in traffic, the world would be a much more pleasant place! The tiramisu is filled with the cannoli cream (with chocolate specs). While it is unlike any other tiramisu I have had, it is quite nice by its own right. This place is definitely on my must visit list every time I visit Maryland.

i chose Giolitti sight unseen by the reviews written to cater lunch for 20 after my son's graduation from the Naval Academy. Boy, am I glad I did. The chicken picatta was delicious and the penne sauce got the thumbs up from my italian family and the cannolis were scrumptious too. They delivered the food on time and everything was perfect and allowed me to concentrate on being a great hostess without having to slave over a hot stove. Thank you very much and i'm going to let everyone I know in the South Florida parents club about you for future catering needs.

This place really is a fantastic italian deli. You would think that you couldn't distinguish one vs. another but their choice of fresh bread, high quality meats combined with their expert preparation really makes it "as good as it gets." I've only eaten at one sandwich shop that I dig more (Noonies in Middlebury, VT) but this place is a "must stop" whenever I am around Annapolis.

Best deli in Annapolis. I need to branch out and try their entree selections but I always crave the same things when I go there...meatball parm, Italian sandwich, Muffalatta (sp?). A great place to pick up cold cuts and stuff for an "antipasto" platter. Can you say "Mortadella"?

Now serving dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. Bargain ALERT. Same prices for dinner as for lunch. Lasagna was outstanding and we couldn't get enough of the grilled garlic Tuscan bread. The real showstopper though was dessert. Homemade Chocolate Cream Pie, with a simply impossibly thin and crispy crust that would be the envy of any pastry chef. It's the owner's mother's recipe and God love her, it is incredible.

I decided to try Giolitti's after reading a fellow Yelper's review, and I must say what a find! I am usually not a huge sandwich fan, but I do love a good meatball sub. A previous review made it sound so yummy I had to check it out myself. First the meatballs. These are real meat meatballs, not processed previously frozen balls. They weigh a ton and taste fantastic. They were out of rolls and the sandwich came on foccacia and it was awesome!! The cheese was melty and the sauce was chunky with tomatoes. The hubby swears its the best meatball sub he has ever had and he has had plenty. We decided to share a sandwich and it was huge. I could have eaten the whole thing if I hadn't eaten much beforehand. We couldn't pass up dessert and got two canolli to go. The shell was crisp and fresh and the filling was rich and creamy and sinful. Needless to say, they didn't make it home. I was happy to see that they have prepacked meals to go which make a perfect dinner when you're in a hurry. I plan to try the lasagna on my next visit. I am so glad that I found this place, but am rather sad to think that it may be crowded now due to the extra traffic headed to Whole Foods. It definately deserves the attention.

Great Breads from real Italians from Rome. Giolitti has been here for almost 20 years and has great sandwichjes, good dry goods, excellent wines, some nice pastas. The owners and staff are delightful, it is a pleasure to watch them interact with regular patrons. They do a nice Tuscan Bean Soup and many hot foods for eat in or carry out for dinner. I have always like Giolitti's deli, I love to hop off rt 50West when driving to the beach and pick up a few sandwiches and loaves of their homemade bread and Focaccia. Their Tira misu is devilishly delicious. They also have some ncie cheeses and charcutiere that you can't get in many other places in the area. Well worth the trip!

  • Ricky Z.

Just not that great. Sandwiches were uninteresting and not very tasty, roast beef lacked everything that makes roast beef delicious (like being a little rare with some juicy pinkness and a little salt), crab soup left something to be desired. Would very unfortunately do better across the street at Whole Foods, something I do not generally prefer over mom and pop at all. Could be that it's wonderful outside of the sandwiches or I'm just stuffy.

Nice little combo deli/service counter restaurant (no wait staff). I've eaten here a few times now and have had some of the stuff out of their take-and-bake freezer. The breads are spectacular. Deli meat is Boar's Head brand and definitely high-quality. The sandwich special is usually a good deal (sandwich of the day, drink, and pasta salad for around $8). I had the Buffalo Chix Sand. Quite good. I would not recommend the pizza, the curst is very bready and the toppings were pedestrian. From the freezer the pepperoni calzone and the pesto-chicken ravioli (made in-store and frozen) were very good. The takeout tubs of marinara is good but a little on the sweet side for me (I prefer something with a little more spiciness). The layout is simple with a dozen or so tables with chairs.

This deli/Italian food market is tucked away near the Whole Foods Market in the new Towne Center. Casual, of course, (eat-in, take out) but authentic deli food, good selection of hard-to-find Italian specialties and -surprise!- wine, too.

We stopped in for lunch and loved our experience. I ordered a mozzarella caprese sandwich and my boyfriend had the ravioli. Everything was delicious and we really enjoyed the outdoor seating ! The prices were very reasonable especially considering the great quality of food. We will definitely be back!

I "discovered" Giolitti Delicatessen a couple of years ago and it's been one of my favorite restaurants in the area since then. If you're looking for wines, fresh bread, cold cuts, cheeses and yummy prepared foods, look no further. They have a wonderful variety of local wines and have sales on them often. They offer many different cheeses, desserts, prepared foods, and Italian grocery items. The staff are very friendly and always have smiles on their faces. You see the same staff every time you go in and they remember you. They greet you when you come in and thank you for your business on your way out. The food is consistently fresh. I order the same sandwich every time I go in and it's always piled high with meat and fixin's. It's impossible to walk away from this place hungry. The place gets very packed around lunch time (12pm) so sometimes it's difficult to find a table, or a parking spot! That just proves to me how great the food is! I tell everyone about this place. I've converted my family, my neighbors, my friends and even my friends family members into Giolitti Delicatessen fans.

I went to Annapolis for a wedding. After taking in the sight, I look for a good place to eat that's not the touristy bar food. Found Giolitti near where we stayed. What a find! Authentic Italian deli. Must try Torta Della Nona. Custard pie with a hint of lime. Yumm!

Great sandwiches start with the bread. Perfect Italian sub rolls. The Italian and the muffaleta are my favorites. Mediterranean tuna is very good too. Good selection of cold cuts and frozen Italian goodies. Wine selection is good and prices are reasonable. Very nice staff. One of our go to places.

Fantastic. I don't care how many sandwich shops and deli's they open in annapolis this place is great. My wife and daughter had the sandwich special and they both raved about it. Where else can you get a drink, huge sandwich with high end deli meat and pasta salad for under $10. My sandwich the Roman was superb and the crab soup is simply fabulous. I give the owner credit for keeping the place modern and setting up a process for ordering and paying that maximizes efficiency. Their wine selection is top notch and well priced. Go to Giolitti right away and thank the owner for keeping this gem open amidst all the sprawl that is parole.

We stopped at Giolitti's to pick up some pancetta for our home-made carbonara. Our local Italian deli had recently closed so this was our first time shopping at this location. The selection of meats, cheeses and wine was unbeatable. After our purchases we decided to have lunch in their restaurant section. Fantastic is the only way to describe the spaghetti and house special and the Cuban Panini which was also very good. This was during the week so I can't vouch for the weekends. We will return for more in the weeks to come. The staff was friendly knowledgable. I love this place.
