I think the coffee here is much tastier that Starbucks. Minus one star for being a hangout for the hippie college kids at the nearby school (and I'm not talking about the Naval Academy!). I prefer this location to the one downtown though - I like that it's smaller and less touristy.

Nice coffee shop. 20 different kinds of coffee and fresh bakery goods. I got an iced caramel latte. It's just okay. Decent sizes offered and good thick straws which are needed when drinking an iced coffee on a hot day. I also got a bagel that was fresh and good but you have to put the cream cheese on yourself and they give you a little side of cream cheese. Overall good local coffee shop but nothing special.

COFFEE REVIEW (b/c what else would it be..?) Little coffee house in the city dock area of NAPTOWN (thus the Name...) This little place has a pretty good cup of joe and some quite places to just sit and read a book, the paper (wait, what is the paper, I really been an iReader or iPad or etc..) or study. The PROs: Good Coffee (not the best but good views as well) the CONs: closes relatively early and is cold during the winter inside overall, pretty good place - This yelper will go back when in town

My husband and I stopped by here while we were in the area. City Dock Coffee was started by locals back in 1993, originally opened under the name of Seattle Coffee Company. I like the fact that they have 3 principles they abide by: making the coffee place a local watering hole; live by the 70/70 rule in which the staff know at least 70% of all the customer's names and/or drinks; and, to develop a 'Cheers mentality' in which the interaction between a staff and a customer is more like a friend rather than a business interaction. I ordered their African spiced tea, which came in a nice generous cup, filled to the brim - the tea itself had a nice mixture of spices infused within the tea, but I thought it would be more enhanced and more flavorful. Service was friendly, and there were some limited seating area by the window. I am glad I was able to check this place out! +friendly staff

I really like this place! Coffee is good... They offer soy and almond milk options... As well as an awesome selection of pastries including gluten free! I like their terrace area as it lets me take my dogs. But it could use a little shade. Just sayin :)

Tasty coffee - white chocolate mocha, hot chocolate, cafe au lait, and hazelnut lattes are all tasty (read: much better than Starbucks). Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is very cozy and warm. There's a lovely couch in the window area to sit and people watch.

After touring the Naval Academy during the hot Labor Day weekend, my boyfriend and I decided to wander around Annapolis and stumbled into City Dock Coffee. Being spoiled Southern Californians...we were dying from the heat and needed something to quench our thirst. The barista recommended their Jamaican tea so we went with that. The tea was very good. It was weird at first because it tastes like fall, but it was iced. The Jamaican tea had fall flavors, but it was surprisingly refreshing. If we're ever in Annapolis again..we'd definitely hit up City Dock Coffee for drinks.

The guy at the counter was so rude. A pretty girl went up to the counter and he just smirked abbr asked her if she was ordering a pumpkin spiced latte. Wooooow. Coffee was ok. Two lattes took 10 minutes. Next time we're going to Starbucks.

Dragging after a day of site seeing stopped here and asked barista to make me something of his choosing that would be awesome. He served up a double espresso concoction with orange undertones. Can't wait to go back.

Prefer this location better for people watching. Their coffee is excellent, they have a variety of roasts to choose from. They even have an organic option. Not sure if it is available all the time, but I did recently see it there. While this is a great place to grab a cup of coffee, it may not be a good choice if you are in a hurry. Because of its location and popularity, the small little shop builds a line a line pretty fast. So if you are willing to wait, you won't be disappointed. However, if you are in a hurry waiting in line here can be irritating..especially with indecisive customers ahead of you.

I stopped in here while I was waiting for one of the businesses down the street open up and I was mighty glad this place was open. (It was raining and cold). It's quite, er, intimate, and cozy. Lots of ambiance and none of the Starbucks blandness and sameness. The coffee is good. I had the medium roast coffee - nothing fancy like an espresso or latte. I also had one of their brownies. Both the coffee and brownie were delicious and the staff are friendly and competent. This place truly seems like a nice meeting place for people in the neighborhood who know each other. In the half hour I was there more than one person came in for coffee and recognized and said "hi" to someone else having coffee. Stuff you wouldn't necessarily find in the Starbucks of the world no matter how much they wanted to be that "Third Place." It's a bit too small to hang out for very long and you won't find a bunch of college students with their laptops open even with free WiFi. That's a big attraction.

This place is alright. It's a cute spot to sit and sip some coffee outside when it's warm out, and the staff and owner are friendly and efficient as can be. I'm not on board with the espresso products, but I haven't tried the actual coffee yet. I shall upon my next visit. Each time I've gone so far, I've gotten a white mocha. I daresay, it's not as good as Starbuck's, I just keep getting it because I'm a creature of habit. I love coffee, and DTA, so I'm not giving up on it.I'm sure they offer drinks I'd like better. I do know, however (as a start), they have a fantastic peach-tasting protein shake!

Was here at 9ish on Sunday morning while out walking. Both baristas were grumpy and rude (late night on Saturday, maybe?). The pastries were delicious, and the coffee was very good, but I had a bad taste in my mouth due to staff. Additionally, something smelled off - not sure if it was something baking or due to the moldy-looking couches, but it was bad enough I decided not to eat indoors.

Let me preface my review by saying this; I love coffee, but I'm hardly a connoisseur. I'm more like a devotee; an acolyte of the bean and all it represents. I feel this is an important distinction to make because many of the coffee drinkers I've encountered throughout my jittery, over-caffeinated life tend to fall into three categories. Two of them are snobs. There's the chain-store snob, i.e. the person that treats coffee like it's an accessory more than a drink and delights in uniformity and comfort. Then there's the boutique snob; the one that frequents the smaller, more hidden stores that you've never heard of, talks about how great they are, then immediately stops going and criticizes what they perceive to be an abandonment of a righteous founding cause when you actually decide to check the place out. Both groups are insufferable. Then there's the group that I fall into. I just want good coffee, good service, and a nice setting in which to enjoy them. City Dock provides all of the above. And while I occasionally cross-paths with a malnourished, mustachioed hipster or a desperate Charbucks fan within it's confines, my love of this place is never diminished. And now, a word on the baristas; they're the best I've ever had the privilege of ordering from. Pleasant and competent, kind and genial, the staff has always been a sunny, calm spot of my otherwise tempestuous life. Given the location, I can't imagine this to be an easy task. If I had to deal with lobbyists, legislators, lawyers, liberal arts students and, last but not least, pompous Squid parents before they had their caffeine fix, I'd have gone insane ten times over by now. Thank you for being there, City Dock!

It's good, decent espresso from a real machine, decent pastries. Small place, definite atmosphere. Small wooden tables, old upholstered chairs. Good oldie alt music too (Madness, Flirts, Devo, Costello).

Very busy in the summer, still worth it. Better than StarB across the street.

Stopped here on a day trip to the Annapolis area. Very nice barista. My husband got an iced espresso and I got an iced vanilla latte and we both were very happy with them. We also got some pastries - scone was awesome, cookie was good, and muffin was great too! The baked goods were clearly fresh, homemade from scratch which was wonderful (in my opinion). The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that it was just a bit too cramped. Pretty narrow, small place.

City Dock's coffee isn't "bad" as much as it's what I would call un-interesting, bland, and on the good side predictable and consistent. It's basically a Starbucks- the drinks are mostly espresso-based and flavored, they don't have different types of coffee nor do they offer their actual espresso shots in anything other than a full size cup. We'll say that City Dock isn't a place for the coffee snobs, but still does a decent job. Their baked goods are pretty good though. Fresh and local, what more could you ask for. And the ambiance is really nice too- retains that "local hangout" charm with a relaxed feel, and nice little couch situated in the window area facing the sidewalk. Very pleasant.

Best coffee place in Annapolis. Visited a dozen shops in the entire zip code before settling. They have couches to chill :)

Poor service on a Saturday the one (and only) time I've gone there. Several young Baristas joking and talking amongst themselves during morning rush (which doesn't bother me). When I stepped up to the counter to order my drink, the young man working at the register, stood there choosing to talk to his co-workers or any other activity that would keep him from helping me. When he finally asked me if he could take my order he told me my total, and tossed my card at me when he was done, without asking if I would like a receipt. I actually felt uncomfortable and embarrassed that this young man was acting such a way toward me. I had been wanting to visit City Dock Coffee for some time, and am saddened by how my visit there went.

Great coffee with excellent baristas. The food is actually great, too. Typical cafe fare, but everything's made in-house and you can practically taste the love. I know you're here for coffee...but try the spiced iced tea. It's a perfect blend of flavors that's so refreshing on a warm day. (Try the spiced hot cider in the fall...equally as satisfying). There's a cozy and homey feel about City Dock. It's inviting and full of great people from the community. And City Dock features work by local artists, which is wonderful. Really adds to the atmosphere here--everything feels familiar.

Dear City Dock Coffee, Thank you so much for being a great host upon my visit to Annapolis. Not only are your iced coffee drinks delicious (I credit your house brew and use of top-notch milk!), but your service is friendly, location convenient, and atmosphere cozy and laid back. I especially love your Maryland Avenue location since it's just enough off the main streets to not amount to a tourist trap. I noticed that most of your patrons are locals, which made me feel like I was getting a true local experience. I also enjoyed your artist of the month feature in your shop. What a nice touch to an already lovely experience. AND you have free wireless! I will have to remember to bring my laptop next time. I do have one issue, however, and that is the fact that you aren't in the DC and Virginia areas. We have water and docks here, too--our location would be perfect! If you could, please set up shop down here so I can have your coffee all the time. Love and thanks, Sarah

I'm not a big fan of Starbucks because I think they tend to burn their coffee. I prefer Caribou, Dunkin Donuts, and light roasts. This is a great place. I had a light roast and it was exactly what I expect from a good coffee house.

Tiny, tiny little shop. Excellent chocolate chip muffins, nice coffee. Barely enough room to turn around, with seating for only a few. I was pleasantly surprised by how long they let customers take up the tables (I guess there are few enough that they expect most of their customers to be take-out anyway). Service was good.

Great mocha hot chocolate and friendly baristas! Very cozy and usually quiet. Great place to curl up and read a book

Much better than their Dock St locale! This place has the same great ambiance, the same good coffee, and right awesome seating. All in a store that's never packed so much that you feel cramped, or your service is bad. Only drawback: the place closes at 6 pm.

Hands down the best coffee in the area! I love how places like the breakfast shope and other local venue offer this brand of coffee, simply delightful!

I loved this cozy little coffee shop in Annapolis. It had limited seating and it was an intimate little shop. I had the white chocolate spiced latte and it was delicious. I would definitely would love to return again when I'm in the area.

Before reading further, I will preface with I went to this location of City Dock on a "snow day". I'm a teacher so school was closed and I couldn't go in to work. The roads weren't too bad so I decided to go to a coffee shop to get some work done and enjoy the quiet atmosphere. This was the first time I'd gone to the Maryland Ave. location of City Dock, as I usually go to the one at Market Space (it has more space to hang). When I walked in there were two other people hanging out and drinking coffee, so I figured they must have been open and aren't planning to close any time soon (there were no signs on the door stating they were closing early). I ordered a latte from the barista, who was less than friendly (understandable on a snowy day when she has to work). She then proceeded to make my latte, grabbed my blueberry scone, and rung me up. I sat down at one of the 4 tables and began enjoying my latte and scone while starting to do some work. Latte, which even had a little design on the froth, and scone were both delicious. So far so good. This is when things went down hill for me. Several people came in and out ordering drinks or just saying hello. There was lots of talk about closing "early". The girl spoke, loud enough for everyone to hear, about how she's going to tell the girl who's supposed to come in at 2 not to bother because they'll be closing early. She then proceeded to complain for the next hour about how she can't believe that people expect them to be open, saying "It snowed for us too!". Rather than respectfully telling people in the cafe that they would be closing, she continued to complain about the fact that she was working and how she couldn't believe that people were even there. She also complained that the owner/manager made them open when they were going to make no money and had no business (guess I didn't count). At this point, I left and will not return to this establishment again. I completely understand that people don't want to work when it isn't safe to go out. However, if I was able to drive to the cafe (in a Honda Civic, no 4-wheel drive needed), then I would expect a business to act like a business and appreciate what customers it does get. If you don't want to work, go home. If it's not worth it to open when there's minimal business, don't open up. I'll go to Starbucks, as much as I hate to give business to that chain, but at least they smiled when I walked in and had a sign posted saying they were closing at 4pm and were having a sale on their baked goods (that's good business). I'm sure there are other people who are looking for jobs who would be happy to get a paycheck for having to do a little work.

A great little coffeehouse to stop by whenever in the area. One summer day my friends and I were forced to come in, the sun was out and burning our skin. The entire area had lost power temporarily and we were in desperate need to use the restroom. They were kind enough to allow us to use their restroom and sit in their dark cafe while we gasped for air in the shade because the heat was so painful outside (Summer of 2011). The staff were very welcoming and nice. The drinks were limited due to the power outage but we were able to order something. We had a pastry and iced coffee. Would love to come back again when in the area.
