Had a take out Groupon, so you never know what to expect. Had the lunch Chef's Choice sashimi and sushi combo, salmon roe, and spicy tuna. Everything was fresh and thick. The sashimi was basically two pieces thick. Will definitely be back!

Everything at Sushi Station is alway fresh and made well - dine in or take out. After having sushi here, I don't want it anywhere else! The staff is friendly and interactive, and the atmosphere is cozy and relaxed. The special rolls are delicious - don't miss the salmon pop or the mission maki. So glad to have this place in our neighborhood.

Watch out when buying their groupon they make you think your buying a groupon to be used on $25 worth of lunch then find out later can't use it on the lunch special cause the boss says so. What a bad first impression. Well if your going to be cheap as an owner you don't deserve my business nor my recommendation to others. Apparently it is hidden in the fine print which is sneaky. Looking at previous groupons the owner only recently added that exclusion to the same groupon that has been running for over a year. The sushi is quite small too.

The Red Sox roll was Delicious, and the yellowfin sushi topped it off. An absolute pleasure and such good service. Make the trip and you won't be disappointed. .

I would have given this place 4 stars for the sushi alone, but had to knock off one for the poor service. I've been here twice and both times, despite being virtually the only ones in the restaurant received really slow service. My favorite rolls were the Red sox roll and the mission hill maki. Overall, if you're ok with waiting and you want decent sushi, this is a good option. If you're in a hurry, you might want to skip this spot.

Came here on a Saturday night. Place was deserted and turns out we were the only customers. It was really awkward. I guess the location was bad since it's a small boutique-like restaurant in the corner of a street. Small menu and not a lot of options for sushi. Sushi were pretty fresh and we had phenomenal service! The waitress was very sweet and adorable!

Loved this place. When you walk in you don't expect much until you start eating. The quality of the fish is amazing. We had sashimi, sushi and rolls. Everything was great. The service was great too. We got the nicest waitress. It's a bit far for me but it was worth it so I will be coming back.

Wow. Shockingly fresh hole-in-the-wall sushi at a killer price. The salmon nigiri melts in your mouth, and their rolls are great as well. Our new go-to in Brookline.

This place is so small but it's really good. I would not come here with a huge group. It's like a hidden gem because it isn't promoted heavy. Just a small upstairs sushi spot. The menu is filled with interesting things. I wasn't sure of what to get out of the special rolls because they all sounded great. I got the Mission Roll with the lightly grilled salmon and it was the best, BEST tasting roll ever. Our service wasn't good though, that's why I couldn't give this place 5 stars. The waitress didn't speak English, so it was a little hard to communicate. The food also took a while. My plate came out last and it was annoying to be the only one waiting while my friends had their food. I ordered a Miso soup & that took forever! Overall, very good food and I would definitely come back!

Complaint: If you're bringing a groupon, PRINT IT. Or as a friend just brilliantly taught me a life lesson, screen shot it. The middle aged lady who works there does not understand how to use the groupon function on a mobile phone. I came for a pick up and showed her the groupon I just bought prior to leaving home. I wanted to be nice and opened up the groupon for her where the code was clearly showing and she only had to click the button "redeemed." After handing my phone, she clicked 'redeemed', said 'oops', and gave me back the phone and asked me to go back to the page showing the code. I tried but the code didn't appear anymore and the coupon showed up in my 'used groupons' list. I told her I can't get back to it because she clicked 'redeemed.' Going back to the email doesn't help since it brings you back to the app page where it shows as 'redeemed.' The manager stepped up while the lady went away to attend to other customers. She didn't say she clicked redeemed so it looked like I was trying to jip them with a used groupon. The manager said the coupon showed it was used and asked me to call groupon since they don't have control over groupon and they need the code to process the order. Honestly, I was not in the mood to be put on hold/dealing with Groupon's customer service after walking a mile under the heat for this. I just repeatedly explained it was because the lady click redeemed hence why it shows as used and it clearly says it was redeemed today when they haven't seen me at all today. I am absolutely not the type of person to cause a scene, but I was not going to leave paying full price and lose that groupon. The manager eventually gave in and told me not to worry about it. Patient guy and handled it kindly. Food has always been great for the college budget. Just beware of your groupons friends.

My family had dinner here last night and it was so good!!! It was our second time there and you can consider it a hidden gem as the location is far from crowded area. It looks more like a house actually. Our favourite are the Manhattan, Fire Dragon, and Mission maki. The Sweet Heart one isn't that great. There's too much rice in my opinion. The service is also a little slow so we waited for a long time before we got our first roll. But overall very good rolls and we will definitely come back!

Trying sushi for the first time in Boston- I had high expectations from a city that has no excuses for having anything but the best seafood. That combined with sushi being... well... raw fish the bar was set high coming to Sushi Station. Quick note: It's easy to miss this place. It's a small little restaurant tucked in a white building. Go up a quick set of stairs and it'll be on your left. Seating is a bit limited. Lots of bar type seating in the front of the restaurant and a few smaller table in the back. We came here during lunch and ordered the Chef's Sashimi as well as the Combination Maki B (3-rolls of your choice) overall our total was just over $25. For sushi that's not bad. For Boston that's CHEAP. It's a win win. For the real reveiw: THE TASTE... was freaking delicious. Because we ordered the Lunch Specials we weren't able to pick from the Special Rolls. The lunch specials did come with a miso soup for each person as well as a side salad. For our Maki Combination we ordered the Spicy Salmon, Tuna, and a Una-Avo (eel and avocado) Roll. All were super fresh, super delicious, can't complain about anything. The Chef's Sashimi was equally impressive. All nine pieces were delicious- unfortunately I couldn't tell you what all was included (Definitely had Crab, Shrimp, Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail though and they included two pieces of Tamago!) and they were quite hefty in portion which is always a plus! A quick note for those in a rush (which I was not so this didn't bother me) it can be a little busy. There were two sushi chefs and it took about 20 minutes for us to get our sushi. If you're in a rush get it to go and eat at your desk- it's worth it! Overall this place really can't be beat!! Definitely going to be a regular here :)

The place is delicious, although on the pricier end. The tuna sashimi and salmon sashimi were fresh and tasty with every bite, as was the yellowtail. Having eaten perfect tuna sashimi only once in my life, the tuna here deserves a close runner-up award. I highly recommend the "crazy maki roll," which contained shrimps fried in a tasty, crisp coat that isn't offered often at other sushi places.

  • Moomin T.

The miso that started my meal was a bit watery, so I was fearing the worst, but boy was I wrong. This is the best sushi I have had in the Boston area. The restaurant is nothing fancy, but the staff is very sweet and the food (which is why I come here) is top notch. Just order the basic sushi, and you can't go wrong.

I love this place. We've sat down at the restaurant several times and ordered delivery. The restaurant is very clean and cute. Sometimes the service can be a little slow, but we've always had very personable servers. When we ordered delivery, it arrived in less than 30 minutes, and the food was very fresh. Probably the best take-out sushi I've ever gotten. We ordered the "D11" combo, which included 3 different salmon rolls and a sweet potato tempura roll. All of the sushi was delicious, and the miso soup was hot when it arrived. The salmon pop maki was AMAZING. The prices are very reasonable, and we will definitely be back. It's a great place to go for a laid back date, or order from on a lazy Sunday.

The second Japanese restaurant I tried after I came to Boston. It is really a small place and I only have been to here three times. Had lunch special and salmon sashimi. It's okay in general, nothing special and impressive. Food: 2.8 Service: 3 Environment: 2.5

My husband and I recently dined at sushi station for lunch after purchasing a groupon for $12 for $20 towards dine-in lunch. We purchased the groupon 6/27/15 and it expires 12/24/15. We purchased the groupon with the intent to spend it on their lunch specials. The fine print on the groupon states 'limit one per person, limit one per table, valid only for option purchased, must purchase a food item, must use promotional value in one visit'. Nowhere on groupon does it say that it cannot be used toward lunch specials. When we arrived at sushi station, there was a sign on the door stating that as of July 24 2015 you are no longer allowed to use 'coupons' toward lunch specials. We verified this with the waitress, who said that we could not use our groupon for a lunch special. We ended up ordering off the dinner menu instead - we ordered one dinner sushi special and one specialty roll to share. We asked if we could substitute the tuna roll on the sushi dinner for a spicy salmon roll and offered to pay extra for the substitution but we were told by the waitress that this was not possible. The sushi was very good, however the bill came out to close to $40, so we felt that we may as well have not purchased the groupon in the first place. Although we enjoy the sushi, we feel that sushi station was dishonest in the way they handled the groupon by not having the terms stated in the fine print of the groupon. They apparently have a new groupon which has a more extensive fine print stating that it cannot be used toward lunch specials, however the fine print on our groupon states nothing about lunch specials so that should not have applied to us. We were disappointed and do not plan on going back.

Tl;dr- great food, mediocre service. The shakshuka is inspired, and the row of beautiful pastries will leave you more than satisfied. However, a seat at Tatte is difficult to find, and a number of the servers are equally as difficult. However, that simply reflects the immense popularity of the restaurant. A must try.

I just stopped in here after flying from Ottawa this morning. Simple menu, fresh, good prices and quick take out service (which I appreciated after a morning of flying and airports). I had the spicy tuna and the Alaska - both were absolutely perfect and a great afternoon snack. My friend loves close by so can't wait to go there again before I leave.

It's blizzard weather and I have to work. Sushi Station is keeping me fed..well--I mean great tasting sushi with soup and salad (incl. great ginger based dressing). I am not normally the salad type, but the salad+dressing is great here. Good for take-out. I have never eaten inside this shop, but the staff seemed nice at pick-up. I did a combo of four maki/rolls incl. sweet potato, spicy tuna, california, and caterpillar, I think-all delicious. I had to stop myself from eating everything. Definitely a good take-out/catering option in the LMA.

Really fresh, no-frills type sushi spot. They have a great lunch special, and big portions. I like your standard nigiri and traditional maki as opposed to crazy maki with all sorts of weird sauces and toppings, so this place will suit a traditional sushi lover. Also, its miles better than the only other sushi option, mission sushi and wok

It's reasonable price for lunch. Services are kinda pushy. I don't like them. Let me alone ! I want to enjoy my lunch.

This place was either overly hyped or something else. It wasn't as awesome as some said. The sushi was good but it wasn't cheaper than many other places throughout Boston like the reviews kept claiming. We got the D4 ($28.95, see photo), which has 9 sashimi, 9 sushi and 6 pieces of California rolls. The quality of the sushi was good. It comes with 1 miso and no salad. It's really a 2 person meal but it only has 1 miso. We also got the Alaskan roll ($4.95). It was good but the tuna was small and it was the same price as other places i've been. Of course I'm not counting the high end places but the average sushi house sells them for the same price. The place is small and cozy. It's well maintained and they have a HD on the wall. The waiter (I'm guessing he's the manager) was friendly but not professional. He would drop the dishes he brought out. Plus, he was hawking over us especially when we were paying. I didn't feel comfortable. Overall, it's not a bad choice but not somewhere I'm going to seek out.

The food was great! We ate D10. When we called in our order we were told we would get our order in 20 mins... Over an hour later it was finally delivered. Delivery service was not the best!!

My wife and I get take out from here almost every week and we love it. We've lived in the neighborhood for 3 years and Sushi Station is a wonderful place. The fish is great - we love the Alaska maki, salmon maki, spicy tuna maki, negi hama maki, una avo maki and salmon sushi. The rice is top notch. The staff and owners are so friendly and they really appreciate their regular customers. Thank you for being part of the vibrant Mission Hill scene!

When my butt is too lazy to go to Avana in Chinatown, it takes me to Sushi Station. The price is normal. The sushi is good. I have no complaints. Although, I do not like their boba tea... EH. I'm so use to KFT and DK, so anything powdery kind of make me gag, so lesson learned! Just get water or coke here if you're thirsty. I love their lunch special, my friends think I'm a pig for getting 3 order of maki but idc, it's tasty and I'ma eat all of it. Also the tako (squid) salad as well as the seafood salad are both refreshing. My favorite maki: station, spicy tuna/salmon, sweet potato, una-avo, boston, crazy, also Salmon Pop!

Without a doubt, some of the best sushi ever. Friends came over last Friday, we ordered delivery from here and all agreed it was excellent. Fresh, tasty, and unique. We had the smoked salmon sushi, spicy tuna maki, unagi don and seaweed salad. Tried this place a few times before and it was good - but this time was great. Definitely worth ordering delivery or take-out.

Beautifully fresh sushi, served in a small, bright and clean dining room, by a quick and friendly staff, at incredibly reasonable prices. Yes, the miso was a bit watery, and the house dressed salad under-exciting. And no, they don't serve liquor or beer. That said, the place is still a screaming deal. Fresh fish, great price.

Great place for fresh and tasty sushi. The staff is nice. This is my go to place any time I am in from NY for business of trips. The service is decent, nothing to complain about this place.

I've only been in Boston for a little over a month & I felt pretty sad when my order arrived, feeling the pangs of heartbreak since leaving California's amazing Asian food scene. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Boston, but with Sushi Station...Yelp has completely deceived me. I ordered delivery, so this is obviously a review for it. Their rave reviews & prices convinced me to give it a go, but it turns out I wasted my money. I felt as though I was being punished by the sushi gods or something or that I used up my warm welcome from the people of Boston. I don't judge a sushi restaurant for its ability to make amazing Americanized rolls. It's really not difficult to bake a bunch of fish together with some Kewpie mayo, masago, avocado, cucumber, sesame oil, & ichimi, then drizzle with eel sauce. Do I applaud its creativity & fusion? Sure. I do enjoy the rolls too, but they also take so much from the fish that it's just kind of pointless to me. SOoOo getting on with this review... Ordered the Negihamachi & Alaska maki: fish quality is okay, rice quality is awful. The sushi rice is just as important as the quality & cut of the fish, so this overly mushy rice just doesn't cut it. No rice vinegar or salt or light sugar is even detected, just sloppy mush. What did I expect from a place titled, "Sushi Station"? Shouldn't judge a restaurant by its title alone, but in the case, you probably can. Also, I ordered a chirashi bowl, which was a bowl of unseasoned rice, stringed raw carrots (what are you doing??), & some fish. I asked for some ikura or masago with avocado & a side of ponzu sauce if it was possible, so I received ikura (salmon roe), but no ponzu sauce. This is probably the third time that I've requested ponzu sauce from a delivery sushi restaurant to not even get it. Why is this so difficult to pack!? I don't want soy sauce, ponzu, y'all, ponzu sauce. Chirashi should not be plain & this one was just poorly executed. Not even a dash of furikake or a seasoning sauce for the rice (this is why I asked for ponzu sauce) on the side. Might as well have ordered a sashimi special with a side order of rice if I knew this was what I was going to get. I can't imagine how much better my experience with this sushi would be if I were in the restaurant. tl;dr if I wanted grocery store sushi, I should've walked to Whole Foods. So unhappy & disappointed. I don't know if I'd give this place another shot...I ordered delivery sushi, so I guess this is what I deserve, but not really. :(

I love this place!! The lunch specials are what keep me coming back. The prices are hard to beat, it's 11.50 for 3 rolls, miso soup, and salad. Their salad is soo good! I also love that it's in walking distance from school because if i ever get hungry I can always come here!

The food was fine, the price was very reasonable, but the customer service was RUDE. This one lady (I think she was the manager/owner?) was very nice, but our waiter and the sushi chefs were so snarky it was unbelievable. I came for lunch with my coworker who has a *legitimate* gluten allergy. I know a lot of hipsters pretend they have CD these days, but this wasn't the case with us, and anyway I think businesses should give their clients the benefit of the doubt when it comes to something as serious as food allergies. The two chefs and our server kept rolling their eyes at my coworker the entire time, and when she told them she didn't realize the roll she ordered came with tempura flakes in it (it doesn't say on the menu), the server told her "that's not our problem". I mean, this is a real health concern, not something to be taken lightly or laughed at! I almost left $0 tip but the lady at the cash register (owner?) was really nice, so I just handed the tip money to her on the way out and told her I didn't want to give it to our waiter because he was inappropriate and surly. I hope she didn't give it to him, but she probably did. He definitely didn't deserve a 20% tip... Oh, and the ironic thing was that they had a sticker in their window that said all their staff members had been trained in allergen awareness...they mock other people's allergies but their "customer service" is the real joke here.

SO GOOD! Spicy tuna is my favorite. It's a little hole in the wall restaurant but it's delicious.

  • Ngan T.

Such a strange location, but well worth the trip. It's a small restaurant, so I can only selfishly hope that no one else discovers this little nook in the wall. It's well kept and the service is very friendly. The fish is fresh and tastes exquisite. You come here for the solid fish and the PRICE. One of the few times I don't make a dent in my wallet eating good sushi. This did not get a full five stars because I did have a couple of pieces fall apart but for the price and friendliness, I will be back.

  • Abbie L.

Pretty good sushi. I got one of the lunch specials, which are a really great deal. It was 5 pieces of nigri sushi and rolls, I got the salmon for am extra dollar. I particularly enjoyed the shrimp and white tuna roll. The other tuna was a little too tacky in texture for my taste. There was also a sweet pocket, I have no idea what it was but it was pretty good. The special also came with miso soup and salad. I would definitely get food there again.

  • Erik V.

I've eaten at and ordered from sushi station many times and will continue to do so while I live in Boston. The sushi is fairly good quality for the price. That being said, I avoid ordering the maguro (tuna) or any sashimi as I don't think the quality of most the fish is high enough to stand alone. Their nigiri portions and decent and I enjoy most their rolls (shout-outs to the alaska maki, station maki, negihamachi maki (yellowtail), and sweet potato maki). I've never had to wait for a seat (there's rarely more than a few parties dining in) and the service is very good. Overall, for the price it is definitely a place to order sushi from and eat at if you're in the area.

  • Jake L.

Sushi Station is a great lunch destination if you're tired of going to stop and shop to fulfill your need of sushi. It nice to get away from your desk instead of getting soy sauce on your desk from those poorly designed soy sauce packets. They have a great lunch deal where for about 10 bucks you can get a drink, miso soup, a small salad, a 2 rolls from their lunch selection. Or if you're really hungry you can get 3 rolls for a few more dollars. The sushi is made fresh right behind the counter and presented well. If you beat the lunch rush you can get a seat at the window to view the daily lives of the longwood medical area. Now I'm not saying it is the best sushi but it sure is a nice lunch option to consider.

As a commuter, this is a very good as a sushi station! Not very good as a train station. It didn't have a connecting route to park street. 0/10 would not take sushi train again.

I decided to try 1 more sushi spot around the area and came across this one. Two words: No Regrets! The best sushi around for a quick meal. We got California rolls & Shrimp tempura maki. Delicious. No complaints.

  • Tyler L.

I've ordered from here twice and will certainly order again. The customer service is awesome, the guy who delivers is really nice and the food is great. My only complaint is that they pack the sushi pieces in super tight, so you open your food and it looks like one huge brick of just sushi and you have to peel it apart. I'd really prefer one extra container and have things more spaced out rather than destroying pieces prying them apart. This is certainly not worth a lower rating though; my key points for any food is the customer service and the food, which are all both great.

  • Spencer T.

I don't give 5 stars often--rarely actually. This place nails it though. Terry, the manager seems to have his staff lined up right. Overall, a great hidden gem. Sushi is great grade, portions are as expected, selection and variety is hefty, and the staff is overly joyous to serve you, like old-school Japanese style. There is a small room in the back that seats about 6 or so. The bay window is a great place to be on a sunny weekend day. Grab the Moochi dessert.

Very friendly staff. Clean well decorated place in a very convenient location. Cheap prices and delicious food! The party boat is a great presentation and their seafood salad is my favorite! Fast service everytime, even when we ordered the party boat we were starving and it came so quickly. Split that between 4 people and it was perfect. They give you delicious guava candies with your bill instead of mints.

I went here with my friends for dinner bc of its rating. it took them just 1 o 2 minutes to bring our orders!!! It wasn't fresh at all! It was like it's left over from lunch! I got stomachache after eating it. The staff also was not friendly. He was like "Hurry up! Eat your sushi and leave"!!! I didn't like it at all!

  • Noah C.

I ordered the three roll special recently, and I was very impressed. The fish was fresh; the rolls were well-spiced; and the staff was very friendly. Compared to Mission Sushi up the road, Sushi Station wins on both price and quality!

  • Sidney L.

I get the sense that the ratings of Sushi Station are influenced by the budget reviewers who are largely college students or recent grads and desire inexpensive calories. As far as sushi places go, this place is definitely pretty cheap, especially the lunch sushi roll specials, which are also served with salad and miso soup. I would describe the sushi itself (I've had rainbow roll, eel roll, and a few others) as being "decent" - not great, but not bad either. Besides sushi, the menu is pretty limited - no tempura, no teriyaki, no sake, no alcohol. A buddy of mine was visiting Boston and in search of good Japanese food, and unfortunately because of the Yelp reviews, he made his way here. That was definitely a mistake. I recommend this place if you're looking for a budget Japanese meal, but if you want good sushi, there are other reasonably-priced places.

I really enjoyed dinner at Sushi Place. Service was excellent without extra attention. Time to wait for plates was reasonable. Our plates were very nice as arrangement, and fish was really fresh, and rice was very good, comparing to many other places. I even decided that next time I am ordering Don. The nice surprise was several lemon slices (of good lemons) on the plate. The complimentary salad was another nice surprise. It was very tasty, so I would add shaved daikon in place of lettuce for volume. The only funny thing was, how they served ikura. If I order it next time, I will ask to peel cucumber skin and make cucumber base 3 times smaller, and yes, omit plastic garnish. By the way, there were ample parking right across restaurant at 5:30PM.

Great sushi, great prices, great staff! I came here with my girlfriend after looking up sushi places on yelp. From the outside the place looks sketchy (above a hardware store and beneath some apartments) but the inside is actually very nice. The menu describes all of the offerings for those who may be new to sushi. They also have good looking boba tea, I'm going to have to come here more often!

  • Sandeep P.

My friends and I used to go here all the time...probably like once every couple weeks. The sushi was decent (varying from fresh to not so fresh from visit to visit) and the prices were great because we always got the lunch special. However, the biggest downfall to this place is the owner...SO RUDE. The most recent and last time we were there it was slow so we asked if we could sit at a table in the back where we normally sit. He rudely refused and told us he wouldn't allow us to sit at the table because he wants to save it INCASE a big party comes in. My friend said that if another party came we wouldn't mind moving but he was set in his way. He didn't allow us to sit at the table (which wasn't a huge deal). I think the bigger issue is that he is always so rude. We won't ever be returning.

Why can this place not be closer to my house?! The BF was picking me up from Simmons the other night and we decided to hit up a restaurant in the area. He found this place on Yelp and surprised me by taking me to it. I was pretty shocked that we were the only people in there, but bc of that we got amazing service! :-) The prices are fabulous for Boston, and we got the sushi party 1 which was huge and def very filling for 2 people. And for $36 it was a steal for that much sushi. It only came w' 1 miso soup, but I ordered a side salad for myself, which was only $2.50--I'm used to paying about $6 in the Cambridge/Somerville area. The sushi was very fresh and we were trying to figure out what a couple of types of fish were and the waitress overheard us and came over to educate us, so sweet of her! I wish I could come here every night, definitely an amazing find and most affordable good quality sushi around--thanks to the BF for finding this on yelp!

This was our first time. We were stuck in traffic, found this place on yelp. It was fabulous! The fish was fresh. It was a good value. The manhattan roll was awesome! So was the Red Sox roll. Service was super fast. It totally hit the spot! We will be back for sure!

I think i should have written this review when it first opened... well anyways, better be late than NEVER i suppose. The food is actually pretty decent and fresh. it isn't good for small groups however. Its literally small and you'd have to sit along the counters. So if you want to have conversation, 3 to 4 people max. On the up side, the staff are very friendly, refilling your drinks before you ask and always ask if you want anything else. they've also made some pretty good recommendations. Now, i wished had remember what exactly i ate, and pictures but since i've had so many different things and never had a complaint about it, i think it's safe to say that just about anything there is good!!! would definitely give this place a 5 star if spacing was a bit better. too bad no half stars :(

Great sushi for an even greater price!!!! Had great service, definitely will be back. It's hidden on Tremont Street in Mission Hill, I would have never thought to go to this place. I ordered a few rolls and they came out quickly and were delicious.

This place is fantastic. While I can't vouch for anything more than the lunch time special, I must say, this place is a definite go to for anyone in the mission hill area. My favorite part about this restaurant is that during lunch time I can literally walk in, sit at a table, order and finish my meal and pay all within 15 minutes. The service is exceptionally quick but they aren't rushing you. If you need a bit more time with the menu, that's OK, too! The lunch special runs for a total of $10.80 (with tip included!) and you get a salad, miso soup, water and the choice of two sushi rolls. I come here frequently because I live so close and god, considering the nature of Tremont street it's nice to escape to a clean, non-hostile environment where I don't have to be worried about fighting off a drunk. A great mini escape from the otherwise deplorable streets of Roxbury Crossing. OH! Make sure your running total (not including tip) is more than $10 if you want to use a credit or debit card. This can be accomplished during a lunch special if you swap your water out for a drink in the fridge.

Might not look like the best place, but once you eat there you're hooked! I go there atleast once a week for the sushi special. It's cheap and fresh!

Quite good for a budget sushi place! Good rolls, salmon always seems fresh. Lunch specials are a good deal too.

One of the best places in Boston for the price! For just $9 you can order their lunch special which is a choice of two rolls (12 pieces), miso soup and salad with awesome Asian style dressing. Oh and they have bubble tea :)

I was apprehensive about getting sushi at a place run by people speaking Chinese, but the other reviewers are right. This is good sushi for a good price. I was ravenous when I walked in, but stuffed after getting the 2 maki lunch. The service was very quick. I probably got my food within 5 minutes. I love that the spicy salmon roll wasn't smothered in sauce, and the sauce was delicious. The dressing on the salad is perfection. The only cons I can think of is that you can't bring large groups because the place is small, and they don't take American Express.

I'm always pleased with the service and value from this unknown sushi GEM. Always fresh and their Chirashi to-go with soup and salad is a great pick me up during a long work day!

Great prices and delicious sushi. It was so beautiful too! Like it was made for a magazine. The inside was EMPTY when I picked up my order. A little strange vibe inside, but the food totally makes the hesitation go away. They are fairly new, so I am looking forward to seeing how they catch on!

If you want top of the line sushi, this isn't the place for you. The nori is a bit on the chewy side and the sushi rice could be better. Other than that though, the sushi always tastes extremely fresh. The fish and avocado (I usually get the salmon and avocado or Tuna and avocado rolls) are always amazing. The prices are quite inexpensive and for the price, the sushi is really quite good. If you're looking for decent sushi without hurting your wallet, this is certainly a good place to go.

i love this sushi place. decent prices and thick rolls. i almost aways get a tuna avo and salmon avo. almost too much food! best sushi lunch specials around.

I think that Sushi Station would make a killing if they swapped out their bar-style seating (the only option) for some tables, and possibly got rid of the massive TV. The fish was wonderfully fresh, the rolls were beautifully made, prices were VERY reasonable, and the menu had a great variety of traditional and creative offerings. We got spicy tuna rolls, yellowtail, and the "Red Sox roll," which was a nice combo of tuna, spicy tuna, and tobiko: yum! My husband and I were a little weirded out to be the only people there at lunch time, but that did mean that we got amazing service. Several people picked up take-out while we ate, which we might consider in the future so that we can enjoy the excellent sushi without needing to watch the news (because really, American politics do not go well with even the finest maki). Definitely a great choice for a quick, casual, affordable meal.

It's ok. There are not a lot of sushi options in the neighborhood. I agree with others that the owner is super rude. This was at lunch time when there's hardly anyone there- and it was just rude got the sake of rude, nothing to do with sushi quality or something.

    (2)

It was ok. They only have sushi, no noodle dishes of any kind. The sushi was ok, but really cheap prices.

Went for dinner, walking distance from a college we were visiting. Probably the freshest sushi we have had in a long while, and we eat sushi a lot! Found it on Yelp, and take off one star only because the seating is a little awkward, the space is so small that there are no tables, just counter seating. We were able to grab seats with a street view, which we enjoyed, but were facing the street not each other. Although...we somewhat ignored each other as the sushi was just sparkling. We also had a first for us which was the Alaskan pink shrimp. In over 30 years of eating sushi we've never had those, and loved the briny fresh taste! We had a sushi regular and a sushi deluxe, and outside from California roll being on the sushi deluxe (this did not make sense to us, so pedestrian for a deluxe), the assortment was excellent. The sushi regular was 19.95 I think, so for dinner was reasonable but not "cheap" and came with rather bland miso soup. We would definitely go back for the incredible quality of the fish - would love to try the lunch special.

  • Jill G.

Not bad sushi, not amazing. Nice service, though! Wish they had a bigger fresh seafood selection. Less expensive than the other sushi spots in the area, which is nice. I recommend the rolls, rather than any of the sashimi.

I have been going to sushi station ever since I started college in the area 3 years ago. If i was writing this review when I first started going, I would have given this place 5 stars but the service and quality of food have both gone downhill. What drew my friends and I in was the lunch special that is a really good deal, but the freshness of the sushi varies greatly day to day and it's a hit or miss. There has also been a strong "fishy" odor the past few times my friends and I have been - I know it's a sushi restaurant but it smells like rotten fish and is extremely nauseating. Other than the major decline in the quality of food there has also been a horrible change in the service. There used to be kind waitresses but now it seems as though it's only the manager who is extremely unpleasant, unfriendly, and extremely rude. I hate feeling rushed while I'm eating and the manager is constantly pushing to get my friends and I out of there. They have a bar type set up - which I don't really like because I like to face my friends and have conversations, but they do have tables in the back. When my 2 of my friends and I went for lunch recently, I requested we be seated at the table in the back - which didn't seem like an odd request since the restaurant was completely empty and we often asked to be seated back there when we go. The owner refused to let us sit at the table saying he needed it for a larger party in case they came. The table seats 4 and there was 3 of us. I told him we could move if a larger party came because that is what he told us we could do in the past if a larger party were to come and he still refused to seat us there. I told him if he wasn't going to let us sit at the table we would be going to Mission Sushi across the street and the owner told us to go right ahead. I used to go to Sushi Station once a week, sometimes even twice a week, but it's safe to say I will never be going back.

This place is the best everyday sushi deal. Really cheap and good sushi for the price--we spent about $30 for 2 people and were full at the end. To compare, it's probably similar quality to cafe sushi in harvard square and bluefin in porter square but it's waaay cheaper. It's certainly nowhere near as good as oishii in Chestnut Hill--but it's good for a simple weekday meal when you don't want to go somewhere far. In terms of non-sushi items, to warn you, the miso soup is probably from a powder and could be skipped. But the ginger dressing on the house salad is really good. Ambience is very casual and low key with no frills. So not a good place if you want to be romantic etc. It also may or may not be good for hanging out with a big group of friends because the seats are in a bar format and not grouped around tables.

I tried out this restaurant based on the review here and tripadvisor. It is small and was empty when I was there. I ordered a $20 sushi combo and enjoyed it. The fish is fresh and portion is good for what it cost. Will go back again next time I am in Boston.

Been here numerous times. Perfect quaint little place to meet up with a friend and enjoy the freshest, tastiest sushi in Boston. It's not a pretentious, upscale sushi joint you'd spend $50-$100 and leave feeling unfulfilled. The sushi here is made fresh with very generous portions, and you'll pay anywhere from $20-$40 for dinner if you're a raw fish enthusiast like me and order 6-7 rolls because-I-just-can't-help-myself-darn-it! Staff is very attentive, polite, and eager to serve you. You never wait more than 15 minutes for your food, even if it's packed. Truth. I love this place. What a gem in the city!

  • Paraag M.

Best sushi we've had in Boston, hands down. The owners are super-friendly. They are thrilled when you walk in the door and greet you warmly. This might be because the place is so new, but hopefully it's a trait that won't disappear over time. The renovations inside are well done, but as others have mentioned, there is extremely limited table seating. So if you're cool with a sushi bar, nothing's stopping you! The miso and edamame are pretty good. The rolls were really good - we got a few smaller rolls (like the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls) and they were $5 each for 6 good size pieces. The special roll that we ordered was a bit bigger and had 8 pieces for $10. Above everything else, the lunch specials are a phenomenal deal. You can get the veggie two-role version, the two-role version, or the three-role version. All come with salad and miso, and the carrot ginger dressing on the salad is perfect. Highly recommend this place. It's our new "go to" place in the area. You just can't beat the value.

I really hope the honeymoon stages of Sushi Station do not disappear. This is a great sushi bar. They did an awesome job turning the old skateboard shop into a restaurant. It looks great inside The good: The staff is very friendly, and willing to provide helpful recommendations. The sushi appeared and tasted fresh. I did not get sick and in fact I thought it was phenomenal. The prices were very reasonable and since it just opened they provided at 15% discount. The chefs appeared to be on their game as well. I loved the ambiance they had going on. The bad: There is basically no parking. This is one major issue with the place as well as them not delivering. Don't expect to be seated at tables, almost everything is setup as a sushi bar. This is ok for 1-3 people, and they have one table seating area but it's literally one table for maybe 5 people. They also do not serve booze. I think it might end up being exclusively a "neighborhood" place. If you live in Mission Hill, I highly recommend checking out Sushi Station, unless you are allergic to seafood. Even if you don't like seafood, it's worth a try, they will find something to give you and help you along the way. First Time ordered: Miso Soup (free), Green tea (free), Philadephia roll, Spicy Tuna Second Time: Miso Soup (paid), Tuna Sashimi and a salmon roll I can not remember the name of.

This place is small but does helluva of a job to satisfy the tummy... It's value for money, has great food...as fresh as it gets. They have great proportions and never disappoints. Perk is..its less than half a block from my place, so I hop by when I feel like.... service is quick but it can get busy during lunch and dinner hours, so try get there early to get yourself seated... To be honest some of the best sushi I have eaten in a while....

Finally, sushi in Mission Hill!!! We may be a long way from Japan, but man, has this neighborhood been craving some sushi! I've been here twice in the last month. Sushi Station isn't fancy, it does not do magical carthwheels or make sushi out of unicorns but it does get the job done! The staff are quite attentive and are ready to answer any questions. So far I've tried the edamame, miso soup, Philadelphia maki, spicey tuna maki, and shrimp tempura (special) maki. I don't have a single complaint about the food but maybe a suggestion... I'd like to see the special get pumped up a notch, maybe something more inventive or exciting? I'm not sure, but the staples are good and CHEAP! The place is small, I mean really small. It's not good for a group or a herd. It's not really a good date spot either, but maybe a good lunch spot or a quick dinner with a friend. Like I said, no unicorns. I can't wait to come back for the lunch specials served M-Sat until 3pm! One of them is 3 maki rolls for only $9.95! hella cheap, let's be real.

Loved their Salmon, really a great cut and the prices are very reasonable. The menu isn't very large, but they have the basics and they are done well. Major downside, no alcohol. The inside is REALLY small. In fact the sushi bar seats more than the entire restaurant. I've also done take out from here and that was pretty awesome too!

  • Alison L.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! My coworkers and I literally crave the ginger dressing they have on the salads. It's freshly made and creamier than other places I've had it. SOO GOOD. Their sushi selection is not very extensive, but they have the basics down. I really like their station maki and spicy tuna. I always get that in the lunch special for just 8$ and it comes with the awesome salad and miso soup. The staff is very nice. The only downside is that they are soooo small! There's like two counters you can sit at and a table for two and a table for 4 and that's it. We came there the first week it was open so it wasn't that busy but we came back maybe 2-3 weeks later and it was packed! Goes to show it's a good place. They also have old 90's instrumental music playing which is awesome!

Great little place for sushi. Nothing fancy but what they have is pretty delicious. Not too expensive either. I usually have a problem with places that charge you for tea but that's neither here not there. The lunch special is a decent deal as some of the other reviews have mentioned. Their boba, however, left something to be desired... I just really don't like them made from powder!

    (4)
  • Sara G.

Good basic sushi at very reasonable prices - 2 rolls, a salad and tea were $13. The spicy tuna was spicy enough and neither too mayo-y nor too spicy. The salmon/avocado/cucumber was what it says. A classic combination. The fact that they left the skin on the cucumber bothered me a little bit but it was a delicious roll overall. The jasmine tea was very fragrant, which the waiter (and owner?) said was because they brew it fresh there, not from a powder. I don't know enough about the science of tea to weigh in other than to say it was nice to drink and even nicer to smell. My favorite thing about this place is the location. It is right down the block from my apartment! Convenient good sushi? I will be a frequent customer there, for sure.

Sushi Station is a very awesome sushi restaurant, the atmosphere is very chill and it's not loud, although it's not very spacious. The service is really good, the people are very nice and welcoming. The sushi is really good I usually get the Manhattan Maki, my favorite dish. The sushi has actual quality unlike a lot of other places you might find around here. I wouldn't recommend getting the boba here though, it's whatever. Anyways, overall the sushi is awesome, the service is great, and the atmosphere is nice.

This is one of those places that you just don't expect to be there. Right off from Brigham Circle is a nice hole-in-the-wall type place known as Sushi Station. The place maybe sits only 20 people, but in my view that's good. When I walked in with my GF it was empty and we actually enjoyed it because most places are just loud (sometimes obnoxiously loud). So getting off that and onto the food.... Very reasonably priced for what you get in return. We ordered a Philadelphia roll, Spicy tuna roll, Salmon pop roll, and a Manhattan roll. All of them were awesome. The Manhattan was surprisingly spicy, but that was good since my GF and I like spicy foods. The Salmon pop had great flavor. The Spicy tuna had a nice texture to it compared to other places which just seem to rush it and make it taste blah. All of this came to a total of $34 and with tip was $40 (nice service and no complaints). It was our first time going there and will probably not be our last. Although it may not be the best place in Boston for sushi, for the price and the quality, it's something not to miss out on.

Fresh sushi and friendly staff. The restaurant itself is clean but very small. Seating is limited to counters with stools. Good for a quick meal or as a takeout place. A great addition to Mission Hill!

Convenient sushi spot for a college kid in the Mission Hill area. Usually, the wait is quick and the food is always good. My favorite is the Manhattan Roll and I would recommend it to anyone who likes seafood. You will not be dissapointed.

Hidden gem! Definitely good eats for a good price. I gave four stars because the place is small and not wheelchair accessible. My gf and I went there for lunch and ordered the 3 maki special for about $11. It came with a salad and miso soup. The spicy tuna there was great!

Walked in on sat night and it was empty, but take out was great. Wish this was there when I was in college. Quick takeout, good eel which can be hard to find. Hand rolls were well wrapped. Great avocado. Def going back

The exterior decor of this restaurant makes it seem like their sushi is fake and cheap. I have walked pass this restaurant so many times until one day I decided to give it a try (A year later BTW) Do not judge a book by it's cover because their sushi is unbelievably delicious. This restaurant makes top 10 when it comes to sushi restaurants. I work in the LMA and I have an hour lunch break, the walk there is a good 15 min but they are so quick to serve as soon as I put my order in. The workers are always so accommodating when I come, I have always been pleased with their service. Sushi is also pretty cheap in my opinion. It's not located in the best neighborhood but believe me their sushi is just as good (maybe even better) than a more up-class sushi restaurant.

  • Schleiden M.

The food here is awesome. Went for lunch, had some squid sushi, and the crazy mariyaki ( I think that's what it was called, anyway. idk I was torn between paying attention to the menu and to my awesome date.), both were fresh and tasted great. Service was attentive and polite, though we were the only ones when we walked in so maybe that has something to do with it. I'd love to see this place get more business, hence the review. This is definitely my new go-to sushi spot. The prices are great and they don't skimp on quality. Great value when compared to the more expensive places downtown. Just go!

Finally got the chance to write a review for this place. This place is great, is it called a station because it is tiny inside? It could probably fit only 15 people at max. I'll recount the chairs next time. I think people usually order takeout here. I love their lunch specials! 3 rolls for only $9.95! It is sooo CHEAP compared to other places. The special also comes with a salad, and miso soup. The sashimi's are ALWAYS fresh, I've ordered here so many times and I never complain (a miracle). Also, their slices are HUGE and so fulfilling in the mouth! My boyfriend always get the Uni Don (eel rice bowl), it is the best! They give you so much eel, it's amazing! Forget picking up the the sushi at Stop and Shop, this place is so much better! Lunch Specials Lunch Sushi (Chef's Choice): 7 pieces of nigiri sushi with cucumber roll for $7.95 Lunch Sashimi (Chef's Choice): 9 pieces of assorted raw fish Sushi & Sashimi Combo: 16 pieces, 5 pieces of sashimi, 5 pieces of sushi roll with California roll for $14.95 Veggie Maki Lunch: 12 pieces for $7.50 Maki Combo Special I: Choice of two rolls, 12 pieces for $8.00 Maki Special Combo Special II: Choice of 3 rolls, 18 pieces for $9.95 The choices for the rolls include Makis: California, spicy tuna, alaska, spicy salmon, boston, una-kuy, una-avo, sake, take, & boston Again, awesome lunch deals! I hope the prices doesn't ever change !

I like this place but only because of their lunch specials. Otherwise I don't think it is work it the fish tastes good but its too fatty, I like my fish with a little less fat. The place is nice in other perspectives and I do plan on coming here more often because their maki rollls taste good.

  • Yolanda Y.

We each got the three roll special that came with miso soup and salad. Very tasty and a really good value. My friend and I were stuffed and the meal with everything came to a little less than $25. The service was good, and I really appreciate the tv. I don't know why exactly, but there's something comforting about being able to watch tv while stuffing your face. They even accept credit cards. The only downside is that to get in you have to climb a pretty steep set of stairs, so I have no idea how someone in a wheelchair would get up there.

I love Sushi Station. Their fish is always extremely fresh and very tasty. Some of the best sushi around.

  • Harel T.

I guess the best way to sum up the station is: you get what you pay for. There's some bonuses here and there, like the miso soup and salad for lunch (only -not dinner), and the customer friendly waiters and staff know you personally once you go there after a few times. In my case, I don't eat shellfish, so in my "sushi sashimi special" which I almost always get they already know what to put in and leave out. Overall, this sushi place is pretty fresh, fast, and cheap, so fine --I have to pour on the spicy mayo to enrich the taste and flavor of the fish, but nevertheless, they pay enough attention to the details to make you want to come back.

We have lived in Mission Hill since 2003 and have been trying to get sushi to come here ever since. Finally, we have a wonderful new sushi restaurant about a 3 minute walk from our home. We have only done carry out so far because we love sake with our sushi. Hopefully, Sushi Station will be able to get a beer and wine license sometime soon. The fish is plump, tasty and very fresh. The rolls are moist, firm and the flavors go well together. Our friend loves uni and was very impressed by the uni on the menu. The staff is pleasant and professional. The dining area is small, but they have utilized the space well. Pass the word around so we keep this great place in business!

I went here trying to catch the Lunch speical, missed it by 10 minutes but I ended up getting a few different sushi dishes, they were all great. I will have to come back and check out the lunch speical sometime soon. The restraunt is small and quiet my group and I were the only ones in there so perhaps it gets busy at another time of the day. I was not a fan of the bar style setup but it is like that way to maxmize the limited space. The chef and waiter sort of made the experince uncomfortable because we were the only ones there, they were waiting on us and pretty much just stood in the corner watching us making sure we got everything we needed. It is a simple place that I would recommend.

Definitely best value for decent sushi. My daughter and I were visiting the Museum of Fine Arts. We are not crazy about museum cafeteria, so we searched yelp for suggestions nearby. Sushi station was just short walk (10-15 min) from the museum, perfect for a break, when kids' attention span in museum may not go beyond 1-2 hours at a time. The place is pretty small, with only couple of tables in the back and mostly bar seating towards the window, wall, and sushi bar. May not be the best setting to accomodate parties larger than 4. We had a sushi and sashimi lunch and two roll lunch, totaling about $25. Both lunch specials came with soup and large, tasty salad. The rolls and sushi were quite good, but the sashimi lacked flavor despite the generously large cuts, which is the reason I took away a star. While the dishes were not perfect, we could not complain at the bargain price.

Definitely great to have a sushi place in Mission Hill. Even better that it is well run and the food is great. I've gone through a bunch of sushi places in the Boston area and this definitely wins on the combo of taste and price. The owners and chef are all quite nice. Now that they are 2 weeks in since opening, you can see the place more and more crowded. Glad to finally have a reliable place for sushi for a great price. Will be going back.

So happy to have a legit sushi lunch option in the area...this place is fantastic! The sushi is fresh and delicious and the lunch specials are a great deal (I may have stuffed myself it was so good!). Only thing I wish they had was a website so I could more easily refer people. I just hope they keep getting business because they're great!

It's only a tiny place, but they're doing a great job here. We grabbed two lunch specials (one vegetarian, one not) and the miso soup was great, the salad super fresh, the sushi fantastic. Make the trip up the stairs to check them out, you won't regret it.

Spectacular lunch special- 3 maki rolls, miso soup & salad $9.95. The quality is the difference. The best una-avo I have ever eaten. I have gone to buffet(Natick), upscale(brookline, braintree and watertown) and so many in between and this place has them beat on quality and quantity. These guys offer large rolls and could not be happier to serve you. Dinner menu looks fine too except no tempura available. Ordered a drink and chose the most expensive looking one in the cabinet- Arizona Ice Tee- only $1.00 when the bill came. No booze or delivery, don't care as I drove from the sticks to a meeting in Boston. Plenty of free parking, many students nearby, three nice window seats if you can get one. Cannot wait to go back!

Very attentive service, delicious food. Good variety of veggie rolls if that's your thing. Good value too.

The appearance and location are ...interesting for a sushi place, but I love going to sushi station. I live right around the corner so its a great place to go to get a quick dinner. I ate in once with a group of seven and they were so accommodating. They didn't charge us for some extra things we asked for and they made a special roll for someone with a food allergy. They seemed to genuinely happy to wait on us. If you live in the area I would highly recommend it.
