This is a BAR review, not about the food, I will add another later when I actually eat here. As far as a place to go, this is a great place, because it has multiple floors, including a spacious roof deck, which is not common in Boston. There are plenty of rooms, and the crowd is a mix of 20 something year olds. Now here is where I start getting critical on two points. Firstly, the cover, I don't particularly like places that have a mandatory cover every night, unless it is for hiring a band or a comedian, this place just has one to have one. The second are the drinks, nothing is wrong with them, filled with an ok mix of alcohol, and not horribly overpriced, but for how much you pay for a mixed drink ($8-12) there is no style and flavor to them, and being served in a plastic disposable cup doesn't really make it feel good. There is a way to serve alcohol, and then there is a way to serve a drink. Market seems to go for the former, instead of the latter. I recommend this place still as a decent night option, but it just doesn't deserve more then 3 stars, especially with how good it could be.

Your typical lounge -- filled with debauchery, sticky floors, expensive drinks, and creepers... When you walk in, it looks pretty empty... but when you go towards the back room, it's packed! Haha. Such a weird layout of the place. Be prepared to meet creepers and see a girl puking in the ONE STALL BATHROOM. The worst. Also, very disappointed there was a $10 cover...

It was a nice place and cool setting. Knocking a couple stars because the whole system with the roof deck wasn't working well. If you had to go downstairs to the bathroom/smoke they made you wait in line again to get back up untill it wasn't at capacity. That was pretty annoying. Not sure if I would go back but the place itself was really neat inside.

Basic bar food. Don't be seduced by the courtyard. $2.00 per four ounce glass of soda. Go elsewhere.

Came here on an ice cold Saturday night at around 10p. I was surprised to see it completely empty on all 3 floors. We eventually migrated down to the ground floor in the back and it started to finally fill up around 11:30p. There's definitely a lot of real estate here, but as the night went on, the bouncers closed off the other floors, thus making everyone cram into a single, closer sized restroom. Too bad. I was having fun pissing in peace without 10 people breathing down my neck. The bartenders I interacted with were absolutely miserable. I'm not sure why, considering it wasn't slammed nor was it absolutely dead. Eleven dollars for a vodka red bull? Ouch. Good bartenders in Boston honestly hard to find. The coat check was pointless as most people their coats on the giant benches in the back of the bar. I'm curious to see what the roof deck would be like in the summer. Also, I'm pretty sure multiple girls were ripping some ripe farts this night.

Spent some time here on Friday night with a large group. We were all aware of the brutal reviews on this site. But, we truly did not see that. Yes, the "bouncers" collectively looked like a bunch of thugs but the waitresses and bartenders were nice and we had good service. We ordered some appetizers too and they were tasty bar food. No complaints.

My friend got kicked out for dancing. And was not refunded. They said he was being too extreme? Oh and you spend the whole night waiting in lines to get up to the roof (tiny roof) and then have to wait in line again if you need to go to bathroom or smoke downstairs!

Expensive for the cleanliness, bouncers were rude, good service at the bar

Absolutely terrible! For 10 you are way better off going to west end or Ned's. Went there last night and the night played out like this... Waited in line for 25 min to pay a $10 cover charge to only be told they were at capacity and we needed to go upstairs. Bathroom upstairs was coed one stall and was disgusting. Then snuck downstairs only to wait in like to get to the back bar where there is a dance floor... Not worth waiting in line to just wait in line again. The back bar is nothing special. Then at the end of the night, get this, another line. Nothing like waiting 40 minutes for your coat at the end of the night. Needless to say, I'm pretty sure I won't be back.

The only redeeming quality of this place is the roof deck. It's a hike to get up there and the stairwell always seems to stink to unbearable levels. Service was quick but overpriced. Skinny marg that is 80% ice is 10 bucks.

Went to Market for the first time on a Wednesday night, so I have yet to experience it at its full potential I'm sure. I was pretty happy though overall with my experience. The bartenders downstairs informed us that the roof deck was open so we eagerly went up there, to find a really nice, pretty spacious roofdeck with a bar and a handful of people already up there. The bartenders were really friendly and efficient. Really nice atmosphere, and downstairs though it was completely empty being early on a weeknight, it definitely looks like it would be a lot of fun on a busier evening. So basically I like Market because they have a roof deck and the bartenders are nice. What can I say, I'm simple.

I went to Market last night with my girlfriend and a few friends. The place was dead. Besides us there was a few bros having a fantasy football draft on the 2nd floor. With that being said, the atmosphere was bad. The service, when we finally found someone so good, nothing special though. For dinner, We had a beer and a pizza each. I had the buffalo chicken pizza and it wasn't bad, I would actually recommend it. After having the entire place to ourselves, around 8:30pm the staff started removing table clothes, chairs and everything else, as if they were packing it in for the night, right in front of us. Another couple tried to walk in to seat themselves and were pushed away by the staff. Great job guys. I honestly don't know how long this place is going to last, but if Market is going to survive, they need to step up their game big time.

I go here frequently to host after work socials on Wednesday night for my meetup group and for that purpose it is great. We pretty much have the place to ourselves and when we first started hosting them here the manager had a half off appetizer deal for us but since we kept coming back they rescinded the offer (not a great move for loyal customers). Other than a nice empty rooftop spot to utilize during the weekday and an awesome guy bartender (blanking on his name) it's pretty average but a good physical space for groups. Food is decent drinks could use some work. With that being said, I wouldn't step foot in here for the nightlife. I went once in the summer and in my opinion it was overpriced (I think it was $10/15 at the door) for not being able to go upstairs and be forced to stay on the 1st floor when they have have 4 including a rooftop to choose from. The bouncers were rude and didn't make for a good experience all around at night. Go at your own discretion.

  • April K.

Ugh. The only highlight of Market was that the bouncers didn't charge us cover. My friend and I stayed for about 10 minutes and left immediately. Couldn't stand the frat-house vibe. There are four floors, but each floor was pretty dead.

I've only been to the place a handful of times, and none of them were spectacular. Sure, Market is spacious and offers a bunch of different options as far as space and music goes, but thats it. But the real issue here is how disrespectful the staff are. I've read a bunch of reviews about the rude staff, and thought I could look past that, but not when it happens to be a problem just to get a coat. To make a long story short, after not giving my completely sober friend (not a drop to drink the whole night) her coat back, they berated her, treated her like a piece of garbage, and then forced her to come back to try again during the work week (and proceeded to lie to her about other things). Not a single staff member was helpful, or even cordial. It's a shame, this place has the potential to be one of the best places in Boston. But I will never go here, and will never recommend anyone to go. And if you do go, DO NOT check your coat.

  • Dave R.

It's big and they do a good job keeping the back room feeling big by keeping it to a maximum # of people back there later in the night. Beyond that, it's not the best really. Really just a loud spot with a DJ that's usually just OK. I imagine this is a great place for 21-24 year olds to get some quality dancefloor makeout time in though so go at it everyone.

As someone who used to work in the industry, these people need to get their shit together. On Tuesday I called Market during the day and asked to speak to a manager, but she had left for the day. A gentleman on the phone assured me that he could help book this party. He told me over the phone that anyone under my party would get $5 entry ALL NIGHT, and line privileges only until 11. I asked him if he was bullshitting me because I used to work for promoters and I get how nightlife goes. So he repeated and said it would be $5 all night. He was clearly wrong. This party was for over 30 people. I arrived with the first group at 11:07 and cover was $10. First of all, I don't care if I'm paying $5 or $20, it's not about the money. HOWEVER when I am told it will be $5 and I'm bringing a very large party who also are under the impression it's going to be $5, you're giving me and my party a very terrible first impression when you're charging all of us $10. I only had $5 on me because THAT IS WHAT I WAS TOLD. Second of all, the door girl sucked. I used to be a door girl, I get it, THAT IS A SHITTY JOB, but she handled the situation terribly. Go get your manager to handle conflict. I don't know if she was just dumb or rude. Next, I wanted to go find the GM of the place, to inform him/her (still never met them) that either A. their phone person is an idiot and doesn't know the cover policy or B. the door girl is an idiot or rude. I asked the bartender to go grab her and she was just a complete bitch by saying "it's really busy." Have you seen a busy bar? Market wasn't even full (not even the first floor). I mean my party probably took up most of the party, so you're welcome. This bartender should probably get a real job if she can't even handle servicing a non-busy bar--just my personal advice. Next I tried asking the bouncers to find me a GM, but instead I was just mocked, which is completely unacceptable. Don't be bitter because you're a bouncer at a mediocre bar. Then for whatever reason, I was escorted out. That was completely absurd. I wasn't causing a scene, I was simply ASKING to speak to a manager. Was I fighting people? No. Was I yelling? No. Like are you really going to escort a girl out of a bar by herself? That easily could've endangered me. A better way to handle it would've been to find my friends and ask me to leave with one of them. You do realize if something happened to me, you would've been liable? My mother would've done everything in her power to ruin you. THINK when you're handling someone else's life, but then again, you're probably not smart or courteous enough to think about that. I'm still confused as to why I was GRABBED and thrown out. This is to inform people that the service here sucks and is a reminder to myself of why I only go to upscale venues. Oh, this is also to inform the managers that your employees suck, so you should probably do something about that. Based off of all the 1-2 star reviews I'm looking at to the right of my screen, I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Always empty and spacious, and they serve alcohol... Although it's like pulling teeth to get a bartender's attention. Worst service, but convenient location ...

  • Freddy W.

Literally terrible. Not sure how they justify a $10 cover charge. Then when you try to leave immediately because there are 5 guys doing a cover album photo shoot while Wham's "Last Christmas" plays in the background, they tell you no refunds.

I had a reservation for my birthday. I had a lot of friends meet me there and they let them skip the line but still had to pay cover. Then I was waiting for the bathroom and someone asked me to move. As I stepped out of the way, a "police officer" grabbed me and made me leave. As I explained my friends were all in there any that I did nothing wrong, they told me to shut my mouth if I knew what was good for me. Eventually they did let me back in, after multiple people said that I was the reason they were there. The bouncer, for no reason, told them that I didn't respect all my friends. It was really weird and difficult to explain. I am disappointed that I had all my friends go here for my 25th birthday. They treated me and everyone really bad for no reason. I was let back in, but all my friends wanted to leave right away. Terrible use of overpriced drinks, very few single women, I wish I had my birthday celebration elsewhere.

Market has a mixed crowd for sure. Downstairs plays mix of hiphop / house / top 40. I feel like market almost segregates itself with the different floors so it is probably best to analyze floor by floor. Floor 1 - A) Bar as soon as you walk in - If you are ready to pick up a slampig and need a quick escape then this is your spot. It acts as a staging area to meet friends or if you are just a blatant alcoholic and cant take the time to explore hit this bar. B) - Backroom / Dancefloor - Circular bar makes for great accessibility and I have never had to wait long for drinks. Can't remember for the life of me what a drink actually costs here but I believe it is less than your typical nightclub for sure. One thing to note is that there is zero fucking ventilation here. I walked in and I could feel the sweat beginning to accumulate on my forehead and on my balls. But screw it, this guy gotta do some dancing. The talent pool was mediocre at best and I really wish there was AC or at least a goddamn fan so that I wasn't sweating bullets when going up to chicks. Floors 2 and 3? - So I don't remember if there are two or three floors before the roofdeck but seriously WTF are the point of these floors? The only people on them are those being denied from the roofdeck to overcapacity and trying to formulate their own bumblefucked line. People were clawing at each other to cut this patron made line for roofdeck access to the point where a kid tells some girl "ew you are gross, don't cut me". Roofdeck - Like most boston roof decks Market offers a glorious view of, yep, you guessed it, a fuckin office building. I guess being outside is okay though if you want to wait in line for literally 30 minutes for a drink from the ONE, yes one, slow bartender they have up there. I leave the decision to you though. A lot of people like Market because of the group deals for bdays and what not. Call ahead about a party and make sure your friends arrive before 11 to beat the cover & guarantee entry.

Felt like I was at a frat party. Most people crowd around the bar. Minimal to zero dancing. Poor pick up lines. Bleh drinks. Why is there a line outside?

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I'm sure this place can be fun, but my experience left such a bad taste in my mouth, I had to comment. I was standing in line in front of a man and a woman - the woman wanted to sit down on a bench as she was wearing very high heels. The bouncer told her that she was not allowed to sit on the bench. After a little back and forth, her companion said to her in Spanish: "stop arguing with him". The bouncer, who did not speak Spanish, decided that the man was calling him a name in Spanish and refused to let him into the bar. They were not being disorderly at all. I've not been in Boston long enough to know if acts of overt racism are common here, but the on duty police officer seemed to be friendly with the bouncer, and rather unconcerned with what had transpired. After the couple left, I asked the police officer if he knew if there was anything I could do if I wanted to make a complaint. He acted like I had somehow offended him by even suggesting that I take action. I know that accusations of racism should not be made lightly. But I cannot in good conscious recommend this place until they make some serious adjustments to their staff.

If I was rating simply on late night entertainment, I would give 3 stars. The music isn't special, the drinks suck, but there is a lot of room and the roof deck is pretty chill. However, the attitude of the staff is disgraceful. They are constantly giving the impression that you're inconveniencing them, and they act like drill sergeants when they lose their tempers. On two separate occasions, I was witness to the employees of market trying to intimidate customers. The first time, a busboy bumped into someone waiting in line for the back room (dance area). After the customer apologized, the bus boy became immediately aggressive; shoving the victim and screaming in his face. The bus boy had to be removed from the area by MKT security. The second event includes me. My girlfriend ran to the bathroom as the lights were turned on for last call. I told her I would wait outside the door to make sure she could leave the bar with someone she knew. Within 5 seconds of her closing the bathroom door, the smallest bouncer in Boston demanded that I leave. Knowing that he was just doing his job, I attempted to politely explain that I was going to wait for my girlfriend to ensure her safety. Obviously, he mistook this as a threat on his mother's life because he, just as the bus boy did to the patron in the previous story, tried to intimidate me by bringing his face within inches from mine and screaming. The "bouncer" ended up being reprimanded by the female manager and removed from the room. I was allowed to wait for my girlfriend.

I went to market last night and had a great time! I read the previous reviews and was a little nervous but everyone was cool. People love to complain - go check it out for yourself!!!! Drinks - dancing - FUN!!!!

Simply awful if you're a young professional. Typical in true Fanieul Hall tradition.. this place is full of college grads and college kids. I felt there were more "meat" heads than ever. I would highly recommend a more sophisticated crowd in Back Bay. It's just better out there. Drinks are standard and nothing special. Shots are not chilled. They have two rooms on the first floor as well as an outdoor area that you can see from the line you'll have to stand in when you get in. You can go upstairs.. but be prepared to go up for a hike. The staircases are long.. there are two mid-floors and a tiny rooftop bar. We just headed back to the first floor where it was bigger and the air conditioning existed. The only redeeming thing is that if you're going to somebody's party and arrive before 10 pm, there is no cover. I don't like this place.. clearly.

Market: (def.) A pretentious wanna-be Boston hot spot where people who think they are really cool go to rub elbows with people who think they are really hot. Disliked by those who enjoy good beer, finely mixed cocktails and chance to get their groove on whilst among witty and charming young Bostonians.

Market is much different at night than it is during the day- and unfortunately, I do not mean it in a nice way. I went here for dancing on a Friday night. Music is great, drinks are reasonably priced and are decently strong, but one staff member took the cake for being the biggest buzz kill of the night. I went to the ladies room and saw a girl that was completely gone- I'm talking about half naked, throw up all over herself, crawling and slipping on the ground, people opening the stall door and slamming it shut in her face. She had no idea what was going on and couldn't even look straight. There is drunk and then there is borderline sick/hospital wasted. I asked her if she was okay and if I could ask someone to bring her home and after staggering and mumbling for a while, she finally agreed. I ran up to the bouncer and told him the situation and asked if someone could make sure that she got home safely because she was completely gone. After waiting a while for him to respond, he didn't even flinch until I asked him again what I should do to help this girl. He responded with, "what do you want me to do about it?" Then that prude just looked away. Okay, douche bag. Do your job. I had to flag down another person that worked there and he rushed over and handled the situation. Even though I'm happy that someone was able to handle the situation, this is a basic thing that happens every night at bars/night clubs and this girl was BEYOND gone. I wish I knew the careless bouncer's name because I would report his ass in a heartbeat.

Tried to like it, I really have. But the 4-5x I've been there I always leave feeling like I wasted my money. The music sucks and I don't like the crowd. Have accepted it's just not the bar for me.

Meh. I was hoping this place would be better, but I basically got the same vibe as I did on Boylston street bars. This place is bro central. Seriously, it reminds me of that youtube video My New F*cking Haircut. It's really a shame because Market has more space than a lot of clubs/bars I've been to. I will be back again, hoping that the college crowd the other night was a fluke. And I really want to try out their roof deck in the summer it looks really nice. Drinks weren't bad. $8 for a vodka soda is cheaper than other places I've been to, and was actually pretty strong. I really did like the decor and layout of Market. It's just that the grinding drunk 21 year olds kinda detracted from the place. Hoping that is not the normal crowd because Market has a lot of potential.

Sat at a table on the outside on the patio with a large group for 20 minutes waiting for a server. Finally went in to ask if someone would be coming outside. The bartender acted like my question of whether or not there was a server for outside was ludicrous. At first he just looked at me, didn't say a word. I then asked again, "Will a server be coming outside?" and he just nodded his head, still seemingly confused by my very reasonable question. After 45 MINUTES OF NO SERVER coming out to about 40 of us outside, I decided to leave. So a couple tips -- #1: Teach whoever was bartending on Flr 1 near the patio how to be a little more customer-friendly. Is there a reason he didn't send a server outside? Or at least tell me that there wasn't anyone to serve us? If servers don't serve outside, tell your customers! #2: If being understaffed was an issue, you should be more prepared for those busier days.

Great place! beautiful bar, 4 floors and a rooftop patio which is perfect for the summer, great drinks, and a fun, goodlooking crowd! During the day / early evening you can expect a more sophisticated business crowd then by 10pm Friday and Saturday nights a much more lively younger crowd. They have several different bars throughout the 4 floors and offer bottle service on the first floor for a decent price. I definitely recommend this place!

I WILL NEVER RETURN TO Market or ever recommend anyone to go there!!!! their staff and especially management is horribly RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!! THIS PLACE IS RUNNING A SCAM! i visited for a class reunion on 11/29 and paid to have my coat checked in (have several witnesses, know my # and what the ticket looked like). at the end of the night when i went to retrieve it, my ticket stub was taken from me and i was given someone else's coat. after i returned my classmate's coat (who was at coat check at the time to identify the jacket given to me as hers) to coat check i did not receive my ticket back and was told they could not find my coat. i patiently waited over an hour and a half until they began rough handling me and my friends for questioning again why they couldn't find it (we have videos of their behavior) and kicked us out into frigid boston weather. without a jacket, i had to stand in the below freezing cold temperature to figure out new plans home since we missed the last train out because of their staff's incompetence. i called right at opening on saturday 11/30 and was told they do have the coat, but, rather than admitting their staff's mistake for giving it to someone else, they pretended it was somehow my fault it ended up in the bar area and claimed, because i no longer had the coat check ticket, i didn't check it in. this wasn't the only problem with coat check that night..SEVERAL other students had issues getting the right jacket back and issues with keys&other belongs somehow ending up in other people's jackets. BEWARE!! clearly, something EXTREMELY SKETCHY is going on with their staff!!!! i would be somewhat understanding of the mix-ups if it weren't for the terrible service and disrespect that followed the incident. i was available to pick up the coat on 11/30, but was told Elizabeth Burkard, the general manager, would call me back about shipping it me. after no call back, i called monday morning (12/2) and spoke the GM who was dismissive and said i would "have to wait until wednesday (12/4) to get a call back," because for some reason management couldn't be bothered to take care of it until then. initially, i was extremely shocked at how unprofessionally this business is run, but after reading their less than mediocre reviews on yelp i can't say i'm surprised to hear this is typical behavior. i did not receive a phone call back from GM Elizabeth Burkard on wednesday 12/4, as promised, because she was "out until friday (12/6)." i left six unreturned messages between 11/30 and 12/10. i was finally able to get a hold of her when i called again on tuesday 12/10 (over a week after the staff's mistake and after having to endure the dropping temperatures and a snow storm without my jacket). apparently the reason for the horrendous customer service was because "they were busy." she was unapologetic for something they are 100% at fault for and was obscenely impolite and refused to take ANY steps to fix the situation. don't know how they expect to keep their establishment running with this sort of service, but I'M THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED AND DISAPPOINTED and hope no one else is treated this way! any other business, especially a classy one that they claim to be, would have respectfully resolved the situation in a timely fashion. literally THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUSINESS ETHICS, AND DECENCY i've ever encountered in my life!!! now, unless i want to waste more of my time with legal action, i'm stuck with having to take time off from work and foot the gas and toll bill to drive all the way back into Boston to retrieve my coat due to the Market staffs' mistake. when i let Elizabeth know i would be posting a negative review on yelp and Market Lounge's facebook, she callously responded with attitude, "okay." it's really such a shame this business is under such incapable management. this place most definitely DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS (i guess that's to be expected from a con establishment)!! i'm giving Market 1 star, only because i'm required to give it a rating, but it honestly doesn't even deserve that.

If you don't have strong glutes, avoid the rooftop bar. What seems like 10 flights up, you will be out of breath, slightly sore, and ready for a drink. Or perhaps this is incentive to work out more... When the weather is nice (rare in Boston), the rooftop bar is the destination for a loungey/sort of chic but sort of casual get-together. Booth-like seats line the fence that surrounds the perimeter of the roof, so there's plenty of seating and plenty of room to lie down after a few drinks, even. If that's your thing. The drinks are a bit...sub-par, however. I was given what tasted like rum poured into an old can of Dole Pineapples. Rum mixed with the syrupy remnants of canned fruit. My taste buds were not happy. Come here for the ambiance, but perhaps stick to the beer (something the bartender can't screw up).

I think that I am officially old. I've been to Market to get my dance on numerous times over the years since graduating from College, and have had some good times. However, these good times are attributed to the group of friends that usually make a yearly traipse out to this place for a birthday or such. Location is ok, right in the thick of the Faneuil Hall area, giving you lots of neighboring options. Layout of the club is decent - you enter into a bar area good for mingling, and if you keep going straight you will go through a doorway that dumps you on to the ample dance floor. As for the rest, well here you have it: bad attitudes at the door, $10/$20 cover, pretty terrible DJs (well, terrible in my book = those dudes that throw on top 40 jam after jam, throwing in some 'oldschool' 90s jams as well, with minimal attention to the crowd or actual mixing), and inconsistent drinks. The outdoor terrace on the 4th (or 3rd?) floor is nice, I guess. Bottom line, I'll go back with the right group of friends, but I won't wait in line to get into this place.

This review is based on hosting a private event here. In October I hosted a party for a group of international students at MKT My experience was less than stellar, more so in the follow up than the actual event. I worked with Elizabeth (event manager), and we'd come to a contract for drink tickets and food. I was given a handful of tickets, but didn't end up handing them all out. The bartender was swamped when I was getting ready to leave, and so I kept the drink tickets rather than bothering her with them. Once I got the final charge for the event, I realized I'd been charged for all the drink tickets I'd be GIVEN, not tickets based on consumption. In my experience in planning events around Boston (of which I have done several), the bartenders would collect the drink tickets and charge us based on consumption. MKT charged me based on paper tickets I was handed - this obviously ended up in me being charged for tickets that weren't used, either because the students never turned them in (entirely possible), or because I still had them. Luckily, I had kept the tickets so I contacted Elizabeth to straighten out the issue. She said they charge based on the tickets that are given out (ridiculous) but since I had them, she asked me to fax her over a copy of some of the tickets so that she could see what they looked like and verify, essentially, I still had them. Fine. I asked if she wanted me to scan all of them (35 in total) and she said just an example would be enough. Also at issue was the fact that I was charged gratuity for the drink tickets which hadn't been clearly outlined prior. It was my mistake for not clarifying, but most places I've worked with will charge gratuity on the food but not drinks (as people using the drink tickets can tip themselves), or at least clearly stipulate gratuity will be charged on top of the drink tickets as well. I sent over a scanned copy of a handful of tickets, approximately 2 dozen, and ended up being refunded exactly for the numbers I sent over; not the full 35 I had in my possession. Since Elizabeth had specifically said to me I just needed to send her an 'example', that's what I did. When I contacted her about it, she said I needed to show ALL tickets I had. The inability to properly communicate was frustrating and time consuming. I sent over another scan with all 35 and received the refund. Due to the confusion and frustration, Elizabeth also offered to give me a $100 gift card for the trouble. That was back in November. I've emailed her twice and still have not received the gift card. I would not recommend hosting an event with MKT - it's not worth your time or money. Many other venues in Boston offer a great location, atmosphere, and leaps and bounds in customer service.

The sky was dark. Heavy rain was threatening. Went looking for a place to duck into and wait out the precip and rush hour. The bar on one side of the street was rocking and mind-numbingly loud. Across the street, another bar, dark, scattered clusters of people and calm. Menu at the door but no obvious sign giving with the name of the place. Where am I? Discern three letters on the bar: MKT. The place fit the bill for staying dry and waiting out the end of the day hub bub. The food was fine....typical pub fare (a "Mexican style" [whatever that means] chicken wrap) and a Sam Adams Amber. Barkeep was nice but not terribly attentive. Servers seemed a bit clueless. Not there to dance, not there to get sloshed, not there to cruise. Left when I was done and the rain had eased up. So, I guess MKT is my 'stay dry and wait out the traffic' bar when I am in Boston by myself.

I said I would come back for a night out and re-review... so as promised: Market is an awesome time! Lots of space, many levels, great music, and drinks aren't too $$. I partied the night away! The $10 cover sucks (we got there at 10:15 and it was empty.... but we still had to pay), but eh, go with it. My only complaint was that the first level was so hot. I mean... crazy hot... like dripping-sweat-please-don't-touch-me-because-I-am-sticky-and-borderline-smelly hot. Definitely will come back but I'll probably go naked.

Market has potential. It's targeted to, and unfortunately often taken over by, young financial district office crowds on weeknights (disclaimer: that's me), and pretty much everyone on earth on weekends. There's what could be a cool rooftop bar, if they invested in some walls, to prevent the wind-tunnel effect so common among bars that say "Whoa! We own the roof to our building! Let's totally spruce this place up and advertise our 'urban rooftop lounge!'" without thinking that, oh right, our bar is in between three massive high-rise office towers and has a daily happy hour hurricane. (Not to mention the steep and grueling flights of not-entirely-even stairs that make wearing heels almost impossible.) It's got that Saturday-night-Boston-clubs-bouncer attitude that guys in sneakers = trouble and/or not "Classy." Not even New Balances? No one has ever started a fight in a pair of grey 574s. On the bright side, it seems to always have a bit of a crowd. The back room downstairs is actually pretty pleasant. They make dark'n'stormies. When you first walk in from the Broad Street patio entrance, it looks pretty nice and I can't fault them for the stylish if not totally take-your-breath-away decor.

Just terrible. I've been here 3 times at various points of the year because it's a convenient location for my friends and I who travel in a pack but wow. It's just terrible. Where to start... - Always overcrowded. - Crowd is just bizarre... it's just weird. I can't really describe it. - Coat check girl is the RUDEST most miserable human being alive. - Drinks are watered down and take a solid 22 minutes to get. - Drinks are over-priced. - Music selection just isn't good. And we're not picky. I'll give it one pro------- The manager is wicked nice.

I've never thought I had a scene until I found myself meeting up with friends here the other night. It's fun to watch the Jersey Shore, but when I find myself shoulders all with the hapless sacks of meat and bones, I only find myself ruing the $5 Bud Light bottle in my hand. Everything is overpriced. House/dance concoctions are 'spun' (immediate side note: if you DJ with an iPod or computer, you're not 'spinning' anything) throughout the multi-level layout and rooms. It's large. Very large. The trash-bitten ladies could far from save this place for me. The area in general is for the five bro ensemble with matching button downs chasing tail and ultimately leaving in the arms of another drunken man.

Meh. I've experienced better. Out with some friends on a Saturday night. The place was dead till 11..but I guess most places are. Although the drinks were average boston bar/club prices at $7 a pop, they were exceptionally strong so you get your moneys worth. The music was lame. Nothing that made me want to dance. And when I requested a song from the DJ, he crinkled his nose and said that song sucks...WHAT! Its a popular song played at many other bars/clubs in boston. And aren't you here to make the guests happy?? PLAY MY DAMN SONG!!!! He never did... Although most people would love a strong drink, the "rum Runner I ordered was so strong I could not drink it. I asked the bartender to add a little more pineapple juice. He began pouring and looked me with a dirty look. He stopped asked if that was enough? I said yes and he began poo ring the can of juice again anyway. I think he was a bit insulted that I asked for more juice. Sorry dude, I'm a light weight. And I'm not even going to comment on the white boy with the doo-rag under the ball cap look...not hot. There are 4 floors to choose from but I found myself staying on the second floor. The first was the entrance and it was small so it was pretty boring. The second was where the DJ, the AC was pumping, and there was a large bar. The third was small and HOT as hell. The fourth is the rooftop deck. No music to be had so it was awkward staring at drunk people in the silence under bright lights. Overall, I give MKT 2 stars, the have a nice set-up with potential for great things, but Ive experienced better.

I had high expectations for this place after reading their website and the other reviews. Alas - I was disappointed. Food - SALTY! There were three of us and we all agreed that our meals were salty. My friend ordered the sirloin steak with gorgonzola mashed potatoes and asparagus, my second friend ordered the pesto chicken and I had the thanksgiving sandwich (which i didn't realize was a sandwich until it arrived). Service - good, but the girls skirts were so SHORT that i felt uncomfortable for her. Atmosphere - seemed like it could be a fun dance club if i had a large number of drinks in me already and was looking to get lucky.

It's the worst. Went there for a friend's birthday and will not be going back again. The crowd it tends to draw isn't so great; I'm not generally a big fan of the guys that go here, but it's nothing out of the ordinary for a slightly higher priced Boston bar that has a dress code. In short, they're twinkies. The girls that go here tend to be pretty bottom of the barrel with regard to conversation. But that's why the place gets one star instead of zero - the music is so loud you don't even want to try and talk to the terrible people there. BUT, the absolute worst part about this place is the staff. The bouncers are big, oafish horses' asses who just stare at you when you ask a hard hitting question like, "Where's the bathroom?" Additionally, if you call ahead with a big group and ask them to put your party on the guest list, they will say yes and tell you that if your group comes before 10 you all get in for free, and before 11 you can cut the line (All great!). Unfortunately, not the case. Got there around 10:20, went to the front to speak to a bouncer about getting in, and this very large man with a hilariously tiny bald head just pointed to the back of a different line. Perfect. (Again, no talking, just staring and pointing - must've been a tougher question than I had initially thought). Waiting well over 20 minutes. Also, the manager of this place is one of those home-bred southie guys that's just awful. Gives the city a bad name. Probably like to tell girls he was buds with Mahkie Mahk before Mahkie Mahk was even big. In short, if after reading this you still want to go here, make sure you wear dress shoes (this is for the guys). I saw someone get turned away after waiting in the "guest list" line for a solid 25 minutes.

Awful. We sat outside on the roofdeck at 8pm on a beautiful summer Saturday in August before the bro crowds arrived, and it looked to be a promising spot. To be fair, as a young professional like the previous poster mentioned, it wouldn't have been our first choice, but we were part of a small pub crawl fundraiser. The bartender on the roof deck was friendly, and offered sincere suggestions. I almost want to give another star for her, but then came the food disaster. As part of the pub crawl, we were treated to half-price appetizers. We ordered mozzerella sticks (not terrible, but how do you mess those up), bbq chicken pizza (cardboard), fries (drowned in salt), and the buffalo chicken tenders. The tenders looked promising, until I cut into the first one and saw that it was totally pink, raw and Salmonella-rific. Again, to be fair, they gave us our money back on the chicken when we complained, but it was kindof a night-ruiner because my husband had already eaten half of one (must be a guy-meets-buffalo-thing). Blech. If I'm a Boston bar that serves pub grub, I feel like there's one rule: DON"T serve raw chicken. And if they were really concerned, I'm thinking they should've comped the whole meal. Not exactly a fine establishment, but not a bad place to grab a beer outside either. Just don't get the chicken.

I came here on a friday night and it was pathetic. The drinks were well over-priced. It was empty and the roof deck was not as impressive as they said it was. We came here with 9 friends and they would not let another friend in because he was wearing sneakers. But half the bar were wearing sneakers and shorts! They have double standards and I would not recommend you to come here. They also had a $10 cover before 10 pm and the place was half empty!! Rather go to other bars around that area which look better, cheaper drinks and have no cover before 10 pm.

Got here after the Bruins game and just before peak time saturday night. At first glance i was impressed how the exterior blends in with the historic/refined architecture of the neighborhood. The tone is a little more dressy here as well. Unless i'm just too used to chilling at low-key place with jeans and a t-shirt. As i walked in I like that the entire space in and around the bar on the first level is basically a casual dance floor. What was also impressive was the variety of options available as far as atmosphere. If i dont feel like getting my dance on i can move to a straight up bar area and kick back with some drinks. If i feel like getting way from the ever thickening crowd i can head up to the third level and chill on some comfortable seating. The bartender didnt make me wait long to order but he had no bourbon to make my favorite drink, a Manhattan. No bourbon?? He made up for it by inventing some fat whickey/martini hybryd on the spot. However, every bar should have bourdon. Is it me or does everyone seem drink vodka lately? The only real problem with this place is that after 11 it should be called the Meat Market. It was stifled with bodies once i left the third level and it was hard to breathe never mind navigate my way out. How can people enjoy beng packed together like that? Of course i suppose there are some unintended benefits but i'll leave it at that. : ) Good service. Atmosphere options. Dancing. No bourbon. Three stars.

What more could you want from a place that offers asshole bouncers, skanky girls, blah music, and an atmosphere that's hotter than the blazes of hell? We originally got here and found out there was a $10 cover. Not everyone had cash, so we left the club (those of us that had paid got our money back) and went to the nearest ATM. Came back, and the bouncer wouldn't let one of my friends in. He had sneakers on. "But we were just here... they just let us in 10 minutes ago." "Sorry, those were the other bouncers, now I'm responsible for manning the door." Or whatever the douche said. "But there are a ton of people inside with shorts, t-shirts, sneakers, and baseball hats inside." "Sorry, those were the other bouncers." Finally my awesome fiance coaxed him into letting my friend in. And it was totally worth it... oh right no it wasn't. Drinks were actually pretty strong and reasonably priced by Boston standards, but the place was hotter than hell. The windows had been open and it was great, until they closed them for whatever reason. If you're going to close the windows, put on the AC! Crikey... The music was just "eh," but it started to pick up near the end. It was TOO LOUD though. My ears were ringing afterward. But the WORST part of this place: at the end of the night I was waiting at the bar, right after last call, to get a WATER. Then, all of a sudden, the bartender says: "Sorry guys, we're done here!" I say: "Could you just get me a water please?" She says: "No, sorry, we're done." "Uhhh... it's kind of the law, you have to." "No." What a bitch. I'm NOT going back to this place, and you should find somewhere else.

Dear MKT bartenders, Stop adding false charges on tabs. Stop rolling your eyes at customers who don't want to keep their tab open. I gave this place a second chance last night and I now feel really confident in my decision to never go there again.

If I had to use one word to describe the night, it would be HUMID which is to be expected when a ton of 20-somethings are dancing up a storm. It seemed like the requirement to get in that night was that people should be above 6 foot. At 5'2, I seriously felt like I had entered the land of the giants. I think being in Stratosphere made these giants like bulls in a china shop. The DJ was a downer. He'd play a good song, people would get excited, and then he'd change it half way through. I'm not talking phase in another song, blend them together, a transition of sorts. He literally cut off one song, to play the next. The bar is circular which makes service a lot easier. There's a couple people in the pit bartending, which reduces the wait to around 5 minutes.

Great Place for recent college grads and Dancing the night away. Total bar scene with ok drinks, a bit pricey but overall not bad. Not a place I would order food. Strictly a party type of place. My advice to the Boss....hire more help on the weekends, I dont enjoy waiting 45 min to get a drink

No. No, no, no. I don't know what it is; maybe it's the douchey name, maybe it's that I got raped by paying $14 for a dirty martini, maybe it's the fact that our waitress wouldn't let a table of nine people use more than one credit card to pay the tab. [And, actually, wouldn't even let us split the tab - she said we'd just have to figure it out ourselves.] Also, our oh-so helpful waitress was terrible; we got there early, and the place wasn't even busy, but we still ended up waiting a minimum of 20 minutes from ordering our drinks to receiving them. What good can I say about the place? My martini was smooth, but for that price, I kind of expect someone to be hand feeding the olives to me. Or at least have more than two in the glass. Actually, never mind. I can't say anything good.

If you're looking for a bar filled with hammered young people and subpar music, you will love Market. It seemed as if no one in the bar was over the age of 30. Typical raunchy dancing spot with decent drinks. Might try it again if the crowd I am with is looking for that type of thing.

The bar itself wasn't bad.....but it attracts the saltiest of douches alive. The DJ was good, the drinks had kick and the staff overall was great, but man do the people who go here suck something awful. It started off OK with the door man letting me despite me wearing sneakers, from there we met some friends at the bar and had a drink. The bartenders were more then pleasant and the way they made drinks almost made me want to stay....but I just couldn't get over the people. Call me crazy but I like to have fun when I'm at a bar, maybe have a few drinks, dance a little, but everything here was tense. Everyone had something designer on and made a point to let you know that they did. I maybe saw 4 people dancing and everyone else was just there to be looked at. It was awful, this place would be a great time if it weren't for the crowd it attracts. Getting to the bathroom was a mission seeing as people just clog the dance floor which inevitably will stand in between you and the bathroom, and nobody moves as if there entitled to stand there. I will never come back her based on the sheer arrogance of the crowd this place brings in. If it weren't for the people, this place would of had 4 maybe 5 stars.

I feel kind of bad giving you two stars. I know that someone probably owns you and loves you and strives to make you the best bar/restaurant the city of Boston has ever seen. But the thing is I have a bone to pick with you: $25 credit card minimum? Really? First of all, most people know that credit card minimums are illegal, but if they hover around $10 we're bound to forgive. But $25? That is pushing it. I know you get charged maybe 25 or 50 cents for every charge you run, but a $25 minimum? That is just insulting. And if you think it's working to have people buy more drinks, think again. I stopped after one drink because I didn't feel like have another argument with the bartendar about the fact that he HAD to run my card even though it wasn't up to $25. Have a bit more faith in your customers. The part of the restaurant with the round bar looks cool, but I came one evening with about ten people, we were the only people in there, and I had to continually flag down the server. It was early in the evening so I understand she was probably prepping or whatever, but come on, really? Customer first, everything else second. Maybe she was having an off day. I don't know. If you're looking for an afterwork place for drinks, check it out, but be prepared, it's not the cheapest bar you've been too. I'm sure Market is someone's favorite bar. Maybe just go full and bring lots of cash!

I joined Yelp specifically because I needed to share my discontent with this place... and I didn't even make it inside! It may seem unfair to review a place I didn't even set foot in, but hear me out. I went to college in Boston, so I know that bouncers have to maintain a certain degree of toughness, but the bouncer at MKT was beyond rude to us. I showed up with a group of about 20 people. Upon getting in line we were informed that sneakers were not allowed. My boyfriend was wearing a pair of perfectly tasteful plain black sneakers. My friend talked to the bouncer, and he agreed everyone's footwear was acceptable enough. Once my boyfriend and I got to the front of the line, the bouncer looked at him and said (completely unprovoked) "Take the baseball hat off, and if you put it back on once you're inside, you will be kicked out." Seriously? How about a "Sorry sir, hats are not allowed inside"? So my boyfriend turned to me and said "I don't exactly feel like giving this guy $20 for our cover charge now," and the bouncer heard him and responded with "Good, then leave." So we left. He wouldn't have minded taking off his hat had he just been asked in a reasonably polite manner. It infuriates me that they think they can be that rude to their customers, and then still expect a $10 cover charge per person. I realize the place was crowded enough that losing $20 (plus whatever we spent on drinks, which I hear are also overpriced there) was no big deal to them, but I still think that is no excuse for complete and utter rudeness. Call me old fashioned, but I refuse to give my business to a place like that.

  • Matt B.

I agree with a few of the other reviews - this place isn't quite as cool as I hoped it would be. But - I've always had a great time here. While the scene may not lend itself to the culture, fashions, and conversations, as, say, Barbara Lynch's Drink in Fort Point, it's definitely a great spot to meet new people. MKT creates a very inviting environment (I especially like the round bar, easy to catch someone's eye contact and introduce yourself) and the roof deck is awesome. It's essentially a really nice college bar. Don't come here expecting a Drink/Beehive/Sonsie, but you can expect to have a good time.

  • Polite G.

A friend convinced me to go to this place even though I had read the reviews that said it was not a good place. So I had low expectations ... the place didn't even meet the low expectations. If there was a option of minus stars this place would get at least a minus 2 starts. Read below. The drinks were watered down and expensive. The bartenders have attitudes that are unpleasant and rude (seriously you are not working in Vegas you are working in some crappy club in Boston), the music was bad, the people were not that interesting, so I left around 11 PM. bored and with the realization that my night would be better spent sleeping that trying to create a good time in such a crappy place.

So much nicer than what Aqua was back in the day. I expected to pay more for my drinks so that wasn't a problem, and I was surprised the room stayed busy the whole time we were there. Great room. Great DJ. I'll be back.

So it has a big round bar. So it has four floors (with no elevators...not that I'm complaining...) that leads to a rooftop. Sounds like the makings of a good place to chill after work or even a night out. Except, it just really doesn't stand out. I've been here 3 times now. All three of them have been after work. The place is huge and relatively nicely located (right off state st) for being in the financial district. But the drinks are just not that good. They sound good on the menu - but god they're not good when you go to drink them. I ordered a Mai Tai (alcoholic version) and to my extreme dismay, it was terrible. Another one of my colleagues had to reorder her drink because it wasn't what she ordered. The third time I went, we had an outing at the 'rooftop.' Now, when I hear rooftop, I think of a beautiful skyline or at least something of a view. Nope..none of that. The entire place is blocked off by buildings. False expectations! And their drinks are absolutely different served in the rooftop than the actual bar. Downstairs there's TOO MUCH alcohol in their mixed drinks and upstairs, it's entirely too watered down. Just meh overall. Not too bad, but nothing great either.

After reading several of the reviews, MKT sounded like it would be a relaxed lounge for mildly sophisticated dinner and drinks. Instead, my experience was a tragedy of errors unbefitting the price of entry. The space was nice. Low lights, velvety red colors, chill music. I could have done without the bank of screens broadcasting sports games. Something classy like old film projectors would have fit much better. On a Friday evening for late dinner, the noise rose to an octave that made loungy chat rather difficult, thus misconstruction ensued. Sitting down to eat at MKT was a chore. The chairs were very low and long such that the table was at chest height and leaning into the chair back put one uncomfortably far from conversation. I threw a pillow under me just to feel like I'd be a reasonable distance from my food. Ordered drinks and the one concoction that truly seemed interesting (the Hot, Hot, Hot) was unavailable for the night?!? Ended up with something blueberry infused. Decent but not distinctive. Ok, let's order food. You're out of the one dish (fried squid) that we wanted to try?!? Maybe the waitress, who was certainly friendly and patient, should have just told us what they DID have available on the menu to save us time. Food arrived well presented but not well received. Baked artichoke with goat cheese tasted more like some kind of mashed potato, and the flavorless seared scallops elicited my childhood disdain for all squishy, fishy mollusk meals. Dessert? No, let's get out of here and find some place with proper chairs that doesn't charge a premium for pabulum with a paucity of flavor.

One bartender told us that they would not be making drinks from the drink menu once it got too busy. We could order one now, but that would be our one chance, as it was already too close to being "too busy". They were out of an ingredient in one of the drinks that someone in our party ordered, and did not seem to want to be bothered substituting it with something similar (ex: lemon for lime, guava for mango). J. ordered a caipirinha and got something that tasted nothing like one (we're still not too sure what was in it - tasted kinds of tart and salty). The drinks that I was able to get were OK. Bottom line - if you do not plan on making any drinks that are on the drink menu, do not even bother handing customers said menu. Don't get my hopes up. Watch out for haphazardly placed furniture (Maybe this was just the night I was there? Not sure if it's always set up like that) - I watched J. and a waitress nearly trip over 2 randomly placed chairs. And watch out for the railing on the left side of the staircase down to the bathrooms - it came out of the wall and was flapping around a bit. The DJ was pretty decent. Most of the staff was nice and helpful. Wasn't too crowded. Overall OK experience. Would I go back? Not if there was a cover.

Quite possibly the lamest bar in Boston. If you like climbing stairs then this is the perfect place for you, but if you like being around fun easy going people then go anywhere else. There was nothing about this place that I can speak positively about....especially the croud. This is a place where lame people go to ignore each other and pretend they are cool.

After reading the reviews I wasn't expecting much from this place, but in the end I would agree this place is decent. My husband and I went for a friend's birthday party and we didn't have to pay a cover with the reservations our friend made. FOOD & SERVICE We ordered some apps: kickoff wings and the pomme frites trio. They were okay, but we've had MUCH better. The service was great overall though and we loved our server! The bartenders were more attentive if you had your money in your hand or if you were female. DRINKS I ordered a strawberry caipirinha; it was AWFUL. Way too strong, should have been sweeter. (I'm basing this on one a Brazilian bartender made in Costa Rica. Another guy in the group sent a bad drink back too). Then, I got a long island ice tea. It was GREAT, but the presentation was bad. They served it in a small, hard plastic glass they use for soda and the amount was miniscule compared to the price, $12. I've always had long island's served in a tall glass. Later I had a tequila shot, which was fine; these are hard to mess up. Overall, I would stick to beer here. It's much cheaper and probably tastes better although they don't have GLUTEN-FREE beer, which is what I have to drink. MUSIC & DANCING The first floor at the back has the largest dance floor. The music was good, but not my fav. The second floor is about half the size of the first floor and plays better hip-hop music. The third floor was tiny and crowded, so we didn't stay there long. ROOFTOP & PATIO Who knows what it was like because they closed it for maintenance. Seriously. The patio was nice except they didn't have any speakers out there to hear the DJ just inside. Dumb.

I love Market! I've been here about three-four times last Summer on Friday nights. What's better than sitting on a roof top on a beautiful, hot, Summer night with a group of your best & funniest friends? Well a lot of things are, like being in Miami or something but... when you're in Boston, stop by Market and have a few drinks :-) Music is good. It's a mix of top 40, some random hip-hop songs every now & then, and sometimes house/techo. I have never been charged an entrance fee (not sure what everyone else is talking about), fun crowd, and many floors to bounce back & forth from. PS: Ladies, they have the best raspberry kamakaze & amaretto sour here. But make sure a female bartender makes it!

Descent lunch, I went with a bunch of friends when we just so happened to be in the area. It's tucked away on a side street right across from the Vault. The curtains were covering all the windows so we were a bit curious. The inside is spacious and very sleek. Prices are a bit up there but the drinks were well balanced and the atmosphere was very calm and soothing. A lot of suits and a handful of financials. I'd come again for lunch; for me this is the type of place that I'd go once in a blue moon.

Just went there this past Fri night. There's a $10 cover to get in--- definitely NOT worth it. We got there around 11 and it still wasn't really busy. The good thing is that they have a rooftop-- the bad thing is that you have to wait in line (even when its dead) AND the only view you have is of all the buildings around it! So then close to 12 we went downstairs and to my surprise there's this huge back area where theres a circular bar and DJ. It had started to pick up, but the clientele isn't really my style. Its definitely the young-mid 20's, rather than the upper 20's and 30's that I prefer. The DJ was ok, nothing special. By 12:30, my friend and I were done with the less than mediocre scene and headed to Alibi to finish the night.

This place sucks--bad--from the eight underage d-bag teeny-boppers, to the d-bag bouncers who can't do their job right, to the d-bag who sadly runs this joke of an operation. And your dress code sucks. You can't change the fact that this is a d-bag bar.

I don't usually write reviews, but had such a bad experience it was worth it for me to take the time and add this place and write this. Four of us were stopping in for a quick drink and we ordered a bottle of wine. The wine was fine and the price reasonable but the bartender was just awful. She poured the wine and then when questioned on whether or not she had poured us our drinks from an already opened bottle that she showed us, she became argumentative. Then she proceeded to tell us that "this is not a wine bar." I had stepped out but there were some not so customer friendly comments exchange between her and my friend. All we wanted was a glass of wine, but the service was so poor, i will never go back....even when my co-workers go on a warm summer night!

so ...if paul bunyan opened a club in boston.. and hired a dungeon master to help him with some of the decorating... and a slew of cute girls to jiggle around while they make people drinks, this is sort of what it might look like. that sounds negative.. but the fact is it's a real funky, large, creative space for you to get drunk and stumble around in. go forth. 4 stories with hot tunes, an intimate courtyard, a roof deck, and a line to get in. i can skip the line and come in for free? oh. ok! i'm happy east coast clubs "ditched" ditch thursday at revolution rock bar and came here instead. it has a lot more potential :]

I like the people that go here. The ladies keep it classy, and the men actually ask you to dance, before grinding up on you. There are never creepers here, and in the summer you can sit outside at little tables and have a drunken cigarette. It's a little more expensive than other places, but suuuch a good crowd.

This market has crashed. I have been forced to go to this place too many times. The roof deck actually smells like a mexican bathroom due to the bathroom vents from other buildings bathrooms releasing there. The dress code, which I believe is khakis or tux, is only enforced to keep undesireables out (aka any non lax bro.) I cant speak to the quality of the food, but if its anything like the people who attend it will be pale, tasteless and give you the runs.

I can't stand this place. Market is an over priced wannabe upscale bar that's terrible. I don't think I've ever had a good time here. It's usually so loud that you spend the whole night yelling at the people 2 ft from you while drinking some watered down mix drink. Obviously some people like places like this where you can go dress up and dance all night, but that's not my scene and I would avoid it if it's not yours either

My friend hosted a birthday party here and everyone had a great time. There were appetizers and table service for the event and the waitresses were able to split checks and everything with no problem. The drinks were good depending on the bartender, but most of the drinks I had were strong. The music was good, and they even played the remix of Robin S Show Me Love, which was great. The clientele at the bar was mixed, but I only cared about the people in our party. Overall a great night.

Great atmosphere for not too crazy night out or fancy dinner. I had tried the drink called '"The Hot Hot " with grey goose, gigner, lime and chili powder on top. i think i saw sesame seeds too.. it was interesting but i finished right away. And other hit drink was the "The Basilique" with Ketel one, passion fruit puree, fresh basil and mint! This was super yummy!!! I would love to try few other ones that i could not try... Thus-Sat has DJ and definitely bringing the place nice and cozy. I felt like i should dressed up a bit more ... For now, this starts are only for the cocktail. Well, i could gave the 4stars for the drinks but I will have to re-review again after I try food then star number may goes up.

This place is lame. I went on a Saturday night and there weren't many people there. Wasn't my type of crowd either. Mostly college kids. DJ played the same old "college bar" songs- livin' on a prayer, etc. If you like that type of crowd and music, then the place is for you....just not for me!

I'm interested to try this place as an after work scene. I went on a Sat night. I got there early enough where there was no cover and I was able to avoid the ever so clever 'M' magic markered on my hand, which you know is not coming off in the morning no matter how hard you scrub. This place consists of one large room with a circle bar in the middle of the floor and tables along the walls. Drink prices are as expected; mixed drinks were $7-8 bucks. The one downfall is don't expect to have a conversation. Get your lungs ready. The music is SO loud you have to scream! And despite the loud, pumping music, no one was dancing- even into the early am hours. And the ratio of girls to guys appeared to be 4:1 FYI. It was nice to venture to a new place, but there was nothing spectacular here for me!

If you're looking for a place to hang out and have dinner and drinks, listen to some music or watch the game, and are looking for something a little nicer that won't break the bank, MKT is perfect.

Music is really good 5:1 girl to guy ratio Setup of this place is great. Circular bar with the dance floor surrounding it. The other floors are small but each have their own bar. Crowd is 20-28yrs olds. Pretty good scenery and the booze is fairly priced. Def. a place to check out if your not down for a bar and not looking to go to Rumor/Roxy kinda place.

I would give this place zero stars if I could. This place sucks. Awful bartenders who make weak drinks. Total idiot clientele. The loudest (and worst) music ever. A really lame scene. A cover charge. There is legitimately no reason to go here- ever. This place sucks.

it was after the horrible/typical faneuil hall experience, i suggested we go to aqua cuz 'no one ever goes there'... turns out I was right, because they changed it into this place. the decor has changed, but the idea is basically the same: martinis and bellinis - yes, pricey - but very tasty and well made... the guy with the hair seems to know what he's doing! seems they have your standard beer as well.... older crowd (as in not 21 yr olds). very chill and enjoyable.... i saw outfits from jeans and heels to skirts and tanks - no need to slut it up here, but if you are in the mood, you won't feel naked.... and by 11 it was nicely filled... best part was the live dj (who i was told was also the owner....) who avoided top 40 and played bar/lounge classics that stayed in the background, where bar music belongs.... give it a shot - it deserves a fair chance...

I have been here twice now, once a few months ago after work for a drink, and last night after eating at Houston's. The decor is nice (much nicer that what was Aqua), the staff pleasant (the bartender came over to serve us at our table--very friendly!) and they have a good wine list. All and all a decent choice for a quick drink, but both times I found the place to be VERY loud. The first time because the place was packed, so everyone was shouting over each other. Last night, the music was WAY too loud for a bar with maybe 15 people in it, tops. I felt like I was in an empty club. Plus they have speakers everywhere, so there was no where to hide. We had a quick drink and left, in search a place that didnt hurt our ears.

LOVE THIS PLACE! I went here for a Stoli flavor Launch party... it was fantastic on a Thursday night... great drinks and i LOVE the round bar... Bartenders are very nice girls... not rude at all... I also went on a Friday night and it was dead, it was like 11pm and a Friend and i had few shots to Pregame... it was great service and decor is very nice... its also great since its close to all other bars near by in the fanuiel area. there's two entrances too which is pretty interesting one leads to the bar and the other leads to the lounge area

I came for "Meet Market" on Saturday night. I actually like the venue quite a bit. The bar is right in the center of the lounge with couches on the side. There is plenty room to dance. There is an adjacent room that is much smaller and you can go out the back. The upstairs area was closed for a private party. The interior is decorated by a lot of wood supports. The black and white checkered floor is a stand-out. I remembered the DJ to be quite good as I remembered a lot of dancing. DJ went between hip-hop and techno frequently. The people here seemed quite friendly and open but crowd was kind of sparse here this past weekend. Overall, I would recommend MKT Saturdays but try to come with a good company and mingle from there.

I had walked by a few times and the decor intrigued me, so I suggested to some work friends to head here instead of our normal go-to for a much needed drink. Side note: yeah, I know I've lived here for a decade and I know all about the stupid blue laws, but WTF is up with no happy hour in this frickin state?! UGH! Anyway, back to MKT. I kind of like the odd mix of decor and ambiance. I like wood, what can I say? Sat at the bar next to a bunch of suits. I ordered a watermelon martini and that's probably the last one I'll ever order. I'll stick to beers and pomegranate 'tinis next time. The suits next to us ordered a shitload of $10 Perron shots. I wished I was part of their crew for that. Couple people ordered food and we all just picked. Pesto chicken with goat cheese - yum. Bacon on it, not sure, as I gave it to a friend. The fries, pretty tasty. I liked it because it wasn't chock full of 20 year olds, but at the same time I wished there was more of a crowd there. I like to people watch. The bartenders had a tough time in their space, they kept knocking into each other and breaking glasses left and right. I think the couple next to us was a first date. They were both awkward and shitfaced. It was awesome.

I've now been to MKT twice during the week at the after work time period for drinks and appetizers. Both times were for organized events. The first event was a packed, Stoli event and the second was a smaller party. Both visits, I was extremely impressed with the staff. Starting at the door, the hostess and bouncers were really nice and knew what they were doing and got everyone in quickly and happily. The bartenders were attentive, personable, and accurate even with tons of people wanting a piece of them while they were working their butts off to make everyone happy. The servers were awesome at delivering apps and taking drink orders. The chunky furniture and upscale decor make you remember that you are in the Financial District and should probably keep your heels on for the walk home and not change into flip flops. Oh yeah, and the DJ was spinning some good stuff. MKT is a great place to grab some stiff drinks and tasty apps after work. Will be back.

I have been here a couple of times and had fun. Its not my favorite place to go to but its not the worst. Cool circle bar and a great place to meet people.. The drinks are not cheap and the 10 cover seems a little much for this place but overall the place is acceptable. Another thing is the doormen are known for being dicks. Ive seen them not let people in for having sneakers on, then you get inside and every other guy has nikes on. I give it 3.5

We saw MKT featured on the news. The Chef put together a really yummy looking looking lobster salad. This was to be one of our selections. We arrived at 6:00 on a Saturday. The front lounge was busy w/ what looked like a jack & jill, we were sat in the back dining room, much quieter. I was kind of suprised that we were the only ones there. Our server was pleasant enough. We ordered the springroll appetizer and it was very good and nicely presented. When we ordered our entrees (that lobster salad was not on the menu) we were told the kitchen did not have swordfish but would substitute Tuna. My partner ordered the Seared Sea Scallops w/ Chutney. This dish was OK, portion was fair. My Tuna dish looked good but the rice was cold (as was the plate), the baby bok choy was hot and tasty, We had the apple crisp tart for dessert. It was very good. Overall, I feel that they need to pay a little closer attention to the small things (food temps, staff not eating on the floor, etc)

MKT is a nice upscale lounge in the Financial district. Great bar and just nicer overall than anything in Faneuil Hall. The food is incredible - pricey, but worth it, and drinks are pretty reasonable. If you're looking for a place to hang out and have dinner and drinks, listen to some music or watch the game, and are looking for something a little nicer that won't break the bank, MKT is perfect.

MKT is a great atmosphere and good food, but beware of going at lunch. My coworkers and I made a reservation for 8 people for lunch at 12:15. The restaurant was empty when we arrived and were seated at 12:15, but we did not get our lunch until 1:43. We did order an appetizer which also took forever and could barely hold us over for the hour and a half we waited for our food. The staff did not even explain the situation until we ask why it was taking so long. I guess there was a large party on the 3rd floor that was causing a back-log in the kitchen. The manager did comp a lot of our food, but if your job does not permit a 2 and a half hour lunch, you may want to steer clear of MKT.

this review is a bummer to write because i really would have liked to see this place do well. maybe soon it will with some improvements. i had gone a few times with some friends for some app's and drinks. it was usually pretty awkward, only a few people around the bar. they really talk up the chef there as though he has found the cure for cancer or something. i have never heard of rene but of course that doesn't mean he isn't great. whenever i get food there though, i am not very impressed. a cold artichoke?.... hmmm.... i miss the old chart house chokes. the decor is really cool. nice but not too nice. the music is great. but the service is just.... there is something to be desired there. the last time i went i brought some out of towners. i was handed a drink menu when i sat down at the bar. it was cool, had some creative drinks on it - not the same banal martini list you see everywhere else. i usually don't go for these types of things but they had one that caught my eye. it was champagne, a drinker of which i am, and lime juice, a flavor that i love in anything, and some craisons - not a huge fan but the champagne and lime juice overruled so i went for it. i watched the bartender make it and only two of the ingredients were put into the glass. i am thinking, well, maybe when they put it down in front of me they might do this fancy thing with the lime juice on top.....what i got was champagne and craisons and nothing else. since one of the key elements in my decision to order this drink was missing, i wanted to politely say to the bartenders that i didn't taste anything passed cheap champagne. i was giving some good thought to finding a way to say it without sounding rude and so as not to embarrass anyone. the bartender who made my drink now had his back to us and was talking with another patron so i asked the nearest bartender if lime juice is part of this drink..... the response i got from the him was "um no actually it's lemon juice that's in that drink and there is some already in it...." hmmmm - this is the bartender who did not make my drink so, how would he know that there was lemon juice already in it? secondly, you are a new place with very little business and either you don't even know your own drink menu that you are offering to people or you are just so enthralled with being on a power trip that you can't even take the time to look at the menu to see what i actually saw or just make me a new drink or offer up something other than a snotty remark like "actually... blah blah blah". SO LAME. there was no evidence of any other liquid in the glass other than champagne so i was a little irritated at this point considering i could have said, "there is no lime juice in this....which is what the menu actually says...." . i even double checked myself - not one but two drink menu's. kind of sad that i had to do it and was the one who was right and the bartender couldn't , who i think is there to make money, no? i let it go. i felt that his attitude would not get any better if i asked him to look at the menu or get me a beer or something. just doing that sounds condescending enough even though it was likely warranted at this point. i sat there for one or two beers after i finished the drink and some lack luster apps that look great in print but don't taste as great as they are described, and went on my way. that was just foolish service. i haven't had great experiences there. if you're going to talk up your chef and how your provide a unique atmosphere you need to back it up and make your customers happy about their choice instead of irritated by your attitude and lack of enthusiasm about your own product.

i do NOT reccomend this establishment for any type of event. my friend had a birthday party for 20 here this past saturday night. they said one thing and did another. told us we would get in without having to wait in line -- we all waited in line. told us we would pay half price on cover -- we all paid cover. told us we would have access to the whole club -- only had access to 2 floors because there was another private party. and that's just what those of us who were lucky enough to get in experienced. the rest of us were stuck outside in a line that didn't move because they were "at capacity with fire codes". the door men were all exceptionally rude and refused to listen to our pleas about our party inside. this place thinks they are hot s*it because they just opened. they are a joke. i would never recommend this place to anyone. at least not until they figure out how to actually serve their customers.

Despite of being very new place, I have been here 3 times already. Drinks aren't cheap. But normal lounge price - $5-6 per a bottle of beer. Mix drinks are 50-50 of hit and miss. But it's hard to say as it all depends on personal preference.(I personally thought that sweet drinks were horrid but great to others, especially chick friends). Waitresses are really nice and friendly.(Of course they were all hot) Most importantly, the guy at the door was very respectful when he had to reject customers. My friend was wearing a pair of ripped jeans which was prohibited attire. He was soooo apologetic that we even felt so bad for him. Food looked good but I haven't tried any. Apparently, the chef is well known but I didn't catch his/her name. Since this is a new place, you don't have to wait in the line which I find it very precious, especially around Fanueil Hall area.

Monday .10 cent wings are the biggest positive about this place. It's a pretty huge positive, especially when you work downtown. Wouldn't go there on a weekend, however.

I still cannot stop seeing what I saw on Saturday night. Lets just say my friends and I (as well as like 20 other people in the bar) saw lady genitals for a good 20 minutes. Yes, out in the open, with a guy groping on them in the wide open bar. I wanted to pull that girl away and smack her in the face. She should NEVER drink again. EVER.. YIKES I still like this place for a few different reasons -no line at 11:30 -tons of different options for floors and crowds -roof deck -good music I still think they need to -charge less for a cover -charge less for mini drinks in dixie cups -decorate the roof deck a little

A friend usually rents out a place, fills it with folks in their 30-40s, and provides a great, catered spread: Shrimp, chicken skewers, steak tips, etc. He picked MKT this time. He had 208 confirmed guests on Evite, another 50 on Facebook. I was psyched to attend. Alas, the venue's "catering person" forgot to tell the manager AND chef about the scheduled party. If someone hadn't, on a fluke, called the place asking for directions and confirmation of the party, there would have been NOTHING ready. As it was, with only 90-minutes to prepare anything, the kitchen coughed up some...pizza. How lame is a place that botches a 250-person party? Attendees were not college kids. They were professionals. They've outgrown places that attract 20-somethings. They expect good food and ambience. They don't expect being frisked to get into places. At MKT they were treated like bimbos on a pub crawl. Luckily there was no cover charge for my friend's party. The doorgoon at least got that right. (Besides, who pays covers these days? Clubs should pay US to attend their events!) The front-area bartenders were efficient, fairly friendly, and gave great "pours" of drafts. Not so in the first-floor's back room. An IPA I ordered there was 1/3rd foam. One-third! I looked at it, then asked the bartender to please top it off. After several tries, she finally got it down to about 1/5th foam. Methinks the front room staff should train the rest on how to do things right. I went up to the 3rd floor in the back half (which used to be, I think, the Black Rhino). There was no draft beer there. Worse, the bartender suddenly jacked the already-too-loud music to the point where people started screaming. What is it with DJs and "sound" people in Boston? Are they all deaf? Not one in 10,000 uses a decibel meter, much less knows what one is. (Can you imagine a professional photographer not using a light meter?). I bet most all have lost hearing, just never get it tested. Anyway, most DJs set their equipment to one level: TEL ("too effing loud"). One day loud sound will be viewed like smoking: Not good for one's health. In the meantime, clueless maroons (not swift enough to be deemed morons) think the way to treat people paying patrons is to damage their hearing. Plus make it nearly impossible for people to talk to each other. If MKT were a diner it would coat all food with 1 inch of salt because, well, "everyone does it." Insane. At closing, security goons YELLED for people to get out. It was 1:45am, not 2am, yet we were herded out like cattle. Another example of cluelessness, incompetence, and arrogance. MKT's management seems to believe that customers are always wrong. A more savvy place would have had the DJ begin politely preparing people to leave 15 minutes before closing. He would have thanked patrons for their business, then asked for their help, saying the place's license stipulates that it must be vacant by 2am. After several such polite reminders (Remember: People came out in a snowstorm to give the venue money!), security staff could have augmented procedures by "nicely" going up to stragglers and suggesting they "please" leave. But no. The robobullies had to flex their "status" by SHOUTING at 40-something doctors, lawyers, real estate brokers, etc. Made me want to come back, right? Not! See the pattern? The place acts like it does people a favor by letting them in. Instead of being professional, competent, and courteous, it acts with disdain and/or cluelessness. To wit: * The catering "professional" forgot to tell both the chef AND manager about a big party. * Security staff acted like goons, apparently having no training other than what they learned in prison...probably as inmates. They certainly lacked tact ("people skills"). * The upstairs bartender/DJ thought setting off sonic bombs in a small room was "cool." Oy! In our Electronic Age, word-of-mouth travels at the speed of light. Managers forget that at their peril. If they don't treat the public well they chase business away. Quickly. There are too many competing venues in Boston for the public to waste time and hard-earned money in places that take them for granted. MKT might be okay for under-age drinkers, newbie collegiates, or bachelorette parties. That is, folks who don't know better or settle for less. But anyone over 30, especially professionals, will NOT frequent places that don't provide good service. I seriously doubt my friend will host another party at MKT. Too many bad vibes were experienced, too much negative publicity generated by management that should have known better. So...how soon before MKT goes the way of Aqua into DDDD: the dumpster of deservedly defunct dives?

I booked aprivate table here for a bachelorette party I hosted. The normal cover charge is $10 and they gave is a reduced rate of $5 for the party. I was ok with that but I would have preferred a waived cover for a group of 14 people. The location is good. Right outside Fanueil Hall so there are plenty of places to go before and after. Which turned out to be very good in our case because of one factor.... this place smelled AWFUL. As soon as you walked in there was a strong urine odor and everyone smelled it. As people walked in you could see them hold their nose. It was that bad. The music was ok. Dance/techno. I would have preferred pop or top 40 so we could sing along while dancing. Drinks were $9 for a mixed drink, I had ordered champagne and appetizers for the table. The chanpagne starts at $45 a bottle which is pretty standard for these type of places. The food was ok. We got nachos, bruschetta, cheese plate and spring rolls. The spring rolls were good. It cost me a small fortune though and if I had known we would be staying there long (because of the smell) we would have just eaten somewhere else. All in all I was not impressed.

Disclaimer: This review is the result of my hosting a private event at MKT, not attending the bar. I wanted to host a specific type of party for the bf's 30th birthday -- a comedy roast followed by a short live set from a musician friend of ours. Now you can imagine that this type of event would require a few things: a decent sized room (not too big so that it echoes), a microphone, the ability to move things around, and lots of alcohol. I was first guided to the Lansdowne, which did not work out because of the Yankees/Red Sox game (even though it was earlier that day??). I then consulted a friend who had been to many birthday parties around town, and he suggested MKT. I was a bit turned off from the reviews, as people seem to be pretty harsh on this place and/or have high expectations. I called anyways. The woman (Nicole?) who helped me on the phone was patient, answered all my questions and even made a few suggestions, including that she reserve the top floor as it has a sound system that can be shut off. The whole thing sounded too good to be true: no room charge? no drink or food min? our own bartender? bathrooms right there? and we can have a mic and bring in our own sound equipment and musician?? Are you sure you don't want any money for this?? okaaaayyy.... So flash forward to the day of. I got there early to help reconfigure the room the way I had envisioned it, and they allowed our musician friend to plug in, set up, and do a sound check before people got there. (Just a side note here: I have never seen a place that will allow someone to just come in and play, we were wowed that we didn't get yelled at!) Several people were on hand to help bring up more tables and chairs, and the bartender was setting up while all this was going on too. I talked with the chef and we ordered up a couple of app platters (they have an extensive catering menu). The event itself went off without a hitch, and the size of the space was perfect given that the tables were set up and about 30-35 people were there. (After our private party, it opened up to the public, and only then did I start to understand other reviewer's comments about the crowd that hangs out there...yikes.) A special shout-out to our bartender Zack, who was super cool and flexible throughout the event, and kept all of our drinks filled up. Try his Boston Tea Party drink if you see him tending bar. One weird thing: they did not tell me that the DJ for the entire bar plugs in on the 3rd floor. This wasn't an issue, but just weird because the DJ came in not knowing there was a private event and just started setting up! I had to run over and tell him what was going on, poor dude had to wait outside while our event was finishing up. There were 2 other private events going on at the same time as ours, so I would venture to say this is a great place for events, large and small, just make sure you know what you want and come early to make sure it happens. Thank you to Rich and his team of staff at MKT for making our event easy to host and enjoy!!

Market is A-Ok in my book. Drinks are moderately prices, they have a $10 cover on the weekends, in my opinion I thought they had a good looking crowd too. If you can dodge the cover it is definitely worth stopping in.

I went to this place on a Thursday night. We walked the 50 flights of stairs up to the rooftop bar. I don't mind walking up flights of stairs for a beer. It's good cardio, and you'll feel much less guilty about drinking that Sam Adams! I had fun. I'll admit that I don't have SUPERHIGH standards. The view of the buildings was cool. It was cool drinking on a rooftop. The bartenders were nice. The beer tasted good. I'd go back.

I went to Market for a friend's birthday. The place is located right off State Street, and has its own small courtyard in front. They offer patio drinking/dining, as well as a roofdeck. The view isn't spectacular, as it's boxed in by other buildings in the Financial District. However, it's definitely a nice thing to have, nonetheless. The staff is friendly, the prices are standard, and all in all, this is a good place to keep in mind when looking for a decent watering hole in downtown.

  • Clare S.

We went there this weekend (Saturday night) and had a pretty good time - music was good, drinks $8, cover $10, BUT I got a non alcoholic drink poured and had to return to the bar TWICE to have actual alcohol put in my cranberry juice. lotta bros, definitely, but wasn't too bad - in all mostly a college grad and up crowd. There are three floors, and two bars on the first floor. The easy to miss large back room was definitely the center of the all the action. We'd go back, but I don't know if we'd seek it out.
