I'm very unhappy that Yelp chose to remove my negative, and extremely accurate review of Mare. We went for our anniversary dinner and the did not have a good experience (poor service, appetizer was missed, lukewarm main courses). There are plenty of other restaurants in the North End, including others from the same owner, which offer a much more positive experience.

Average food and service. Nothing to write home about. There are better places for sea food in the area

Unfortunately this establishment did anything but impress... From having a reservation for our anniversary and checking in...and given a 10-15 minute window and then 5 minutes later asking if "we had a reservation and waiting".... We were greeted at the table with complimentary bubbles for our anniversary but everything else went downhill. Our server was nice... But food was superbly sub-par... Oysters were good but then stuffed calamari (which was recommended on yelp) was horrible. I make better on xmas eve. Flavorless, dry, all breading for the stuffing, and nothing to write home about... Bottom line...pretentious place with menial culinary talent and nothing overwhelming when it comes to customer service. Nico BLEW them away with making us feel at "home." Won't bother to visit again...

Was looking forward to eating here. First, hostess couldn't care less that you showed up. She forgot we checked in, 20 minutes later decided to see why we were hanging out in front of the restaurant. Finally were seated...cold intro initially but server warmed up during conversation. Ordered oysters....they were awesome! Come here for oysters. Then leave. Appetizers were ok, stuffed calamari had no flavor. Kampachi tartare was very good. Anyways, this is a try to be south beach in Boston. Good and bad.

This restaurant was recommended by a local so my boyfriend and I decided to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised! The food and cocktails were superior. I had the Truffle Crusted Tuna and my boyfriend had a burger (he can't eat seafood). Everything was prepared well and the outdoor seating lent a beautiful view of the city. The staff was very friendly and we were able to be seated immediately upon arriving, without a reservation. The restaurant is a little hard to find if you are not familiar with the area. It is down a dark alley way that seems a little sketchy. Google maps has the wrong address so ask a local when in doubt. I gave 4 stars because although our waiter was very friendly, he seemed very disappointed that we didnt get appetizers, multiple drinks, and desserts. It felt like he was pushing to make our bill higher. But at 9:30pm, we didn't need a 7 course meal. Bottom line: Food is amazing. View is amazing. Prices are fair. Check it out

I left disappointed, especially after having positive experiences with their past location. Started w/ a few different types of oysters, which were the best part of our meal. Mare, from this experience and in the past, always has very fresh oysters with high variety. We then moved onto the crudo trio, which was tasty but very simple. Actually "crudo" is a bit of a misnomer, as it was simply sliced fresh fish with some fleur de sel on top. Now, it was very tasty - since it was fresh raw fish and salt (cant go wrong there) - it just wasn't/isn't a crudo. On to the mains, which is really where Mare fell short. I had the gnocchi frutti de mare, which I really could have done without completely. The gnocchi were a joke: chewy, tough, and flavorless. They were all very uniform, which leads me to believe they weren't made in-house. And if they were; they were overworked to death and not salted properly. The sauce in my dish lacked any flavor at all, and was watery. If the "watery" aspect had been fish stock, or properly salted pasta water - I would've welcomed the flavor addition. The assortment of seafood in my dish consisted of the "throw-away" type scraps and was overcooked. My wife had the halibut, which was cooked to perfection - but she complained of severe lack of flavor. We ate outdoors, which was quite lovely and extremely romantic. I would only comeback for some oysters and rose (or beers) or drinks by the fire.

Thankfully north end is small so when we realized that mare had moved we just walked to its new location. My friend and I shared oysters and drinks. I got a glass of chianti and she had a mojito. The mojito was pretty yummy. The chianti was wonderful. Now the oysters were good! I had sorta expected the price to be more since it seemed like such a fancy place but they were decently priced. We thought that the dress would be casual per the old location yelp standards but..... We felt super underdressed in our vnecks and tank tops. Our server was nice but it seemed like he was gunning for us to order more. We were there for a simple ending meal to our night! (We got there around 930pm- so how late this place is open is a plus). I felt very out of place and not very comfortable :( as yummy as oysters are I don't know if this was a highlight of Boston for me. Food is about experience for me thus the rating. Whoop I'm a Texan who is doing the first review for a Boston eatery!!!!

Very good service, good coctails, and which is the most important: delicious seafood. I tried oyster and lobster, and I was really impressed both by the taste and the visual. All this in the heart of North End, with limited, but very good view on the city, it wasn't even expensive.

I love the new location. Great vibe, outside seating and music. Just really too bad that service and food can't be great too. We had so many servers around us but it still took 45 minutes to bring a glass of wine. Restaurant was half full. My raw tuna was no more special then the 99! The rolls... well...I wouldn't feed them to my dog for fear it would break his teeth! Disappointing is putting it way too lightly!

3.5/5, +.5 for service Good thing I consulted Yelp beforehand, because I was about to go to the old Mare location! Although I think if I ended up there, there would've been some guidance to end up here anyway. However, this restaurant was somewhat difficult to find, as it's at the end of a hidden alleyway. We were seated in an outside patio, which provided a nice view of Highway 1A entering Downtown Boston. However, the seat arrangement was quite poor, as people had to walk through our table to reach the sofas, as there was no other path. Mare has an extensive raw bar menu, and I highly recommend ordering something from the raw bar if you dare to eat raw seafood. We ordered a large mix of raw clams and mussels to start, and each of them were beyond delicious. For the actual menu, we ordered the octopus salad, seafood meatball, and the zuppa di mare. The octopus salad was the more expensive of the appetizers, and honestly was something I wouldn't bother next time as it wasn't anything special. The seafood meatball was quite unique and the "meatballs" were very large. Finally, the zuppa di mare was very delicious and had a lot of the seafood staples (shrimp, lobster, scallops, clams, and mussels), and the tomato-like broth was also very tasty. Definitely worth the $37 in my opinion. Unfortunately since we were so full at the end, we didn't order any dessert. However, we were overall satisfied with our meal, and we would definitely return when we're ever in Boston.

After numerous visits to Mare both in their previous location on Richmond and their new (fabulous) location on Mechanic off Hanover, I can say unequivocally that this is a top shelf seafood restaurant!! Their stuffed lobster is a signature dish as is their platter of fish and seafood. Both are off the charts and exceptional (and I'm very discriminating!). This is a restaurant that takes great pride in preparation, creativity, incredible layered flavors, the freshest seafood and shellfish and a great staff. The new space is beautiful with low light seating and sofas by fire pits. All around I have to say its a top Boston restaurant, consistently!!!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
