Really good sushi, shocking really. I didn't know there was good sushi in NOLA. The chef made the wrong thing for me but I still ate it because it was delicious. My bill somehow got to $85 which was surprising, but I'm sure the sake I drank has something to do with it. I'll be back.

For my money this is the best Sushi Rest in the city. Sashimi always fresh and Sushi Bar Chefs friendly. We visit weekly. Love it.

I've use to come to Shogun all the time with my family until I moved. The owners are very nice and the food here is delicious. I think that this is one of the best japanese restaurants in the area as well. The hibachi grill is entertaining and the food is great (a bit on the oily side though). When I go I usually sit in the dining area because I prefer the menu over the hibachi grill menu items. In the dining area, I'd recommend the Shogun special (2+ people) it comes with teriyaki chicken&beef kabobs, lobster, fried chicken, tempura&veggies. The prices are a bit on the expensive side, but the quality of the food makes up for that.

This is without a doubt, the best japanese restaurant in (around really) New Orleans. It's been awhile since I've eaten there since I live in Austin, TX, but I really like this place. It's moderately priced, the fish is fresh, and the selection is good.

We almost always come here during lunch time and almost always get the "lunch bento box". We never have to wait for a table, but they are always busy. Service is hit and miss, but never below average - sometimes great. The food is average to above average for a Japanese place and my toddler loves it..so we love it too!

This is not only my favorite Japanese restaurant, it's probably my favorite place to eat period! I've been going here since I was a kid and this is where I learned how to use chopsticks throughout the years and it's just as good. This is a great place to come eat with friends, kids, or by yourself. I've done all of the above! I usually sit in the dining room section but they also have seating in the hibachi (grill) section and the sushi bar. The reason that I love this place more than any of the other Japanese places is because their non-sushi food is so great. I love their baked seafood, chicken and beef skewers, and tempura. All their lunch specials are great and under $10, which I consider to be one of the best deals in the city. They also come with a delicious soup and salad....so good!!!!!! I always dream about this place when I'm not in town and this is the place where I dine multiple times in a week. If you go, make sure to try the baked seafood and their crunchy roll. So far I've not been able to find better versions.

Definitely the best hibachi in the city- worth driving out to Metairie.

Shogun is the flagship store in the Tokyo family of sushi placed in the GNO area. Great food, probably the best if you want to stay in Metairie.

Went to eat here for dinner last night around 7:15pm. I have been here for lunch with a group from work. Our wait last night was EXTREMELY long. We had 4 people at the hibachi table and waited approximately 45 minutes for the guy to start cooking our food. The soup and salad were bland as usual. I ordered steak and chicken with hibachi rice. Main portions of the meal were good, but took too long to reach my plate (8:30 by the time the rice was served, still waited longer for meat). Flaming volcano show was entertaining for a guest who had never visited before, but the flying shrimp and sexist comments are getting old. After waiting for our food to be boxed up and our check, it was 9:30 by the time we walked out the door. Next time we'll head back to Little Tokyo on Carrollton Avenue. Quicker service and cleaner restaurant.

Why oh why must this place cost an arm and a leg??? Because their hibachi is the BEST! I'd give it 5 stars if the price wasn't a Small fortune.

I came here often pre-Katrina (2005) I remember this restaurant was really good. It was a favorite and I went often and have a lot of good memories of Shogun. Went in today expecting a similar experience and it wasn't close. They were not very busy, only a couple other tables in the main dining room and it took a long time to get the food. We had miso soup to start, the broth was fine but the tofu had less flavor than it should, even for tofu. We ordered the bbq eel roll, salmon roll and the rainbow roll. All three were just average at best, not great. I've had better from Rouses. The hot Sake arrived as we were finishing our Maki Rolls. Sorry to have to say but I will most likely seek out another place for Sushi before returning to Shogun

Katie and I were looking forward to this experience for quite awhile and the big day ended up being my 38th birthday. We entered the doors, sat down in front of Kaz, and for the next hour we were treated to what might possibly be our favorite of all restaurant experiences in years. It was THAT good. When I lived in Seattle, I was a sushi fiend, visiting as many places as I could visit in the hunt to find the best sushi experience. This experience brought me back to those days, with my senses overwhelmed at the splendor of truly amazing sushi from the hands of a truly amazing artist of the craft. I firmly believe in putting my full faith in a sushi master. If you know what you're doing, I will eat anything you put in front of me (except oysters because they hate me). I trust you to supply the greatest experience possible that day at that point in time. Kaz did not only not let me down, he completely blew me away. Starting off with a volcano looking amalgam of sushi, we knew we were in for a treat. Next up: three different kinds of Nigiri sushi, followed by the lightly toasted face of an Amberjack, and more Nigiri, this time made of scallop and Foie gras. Desert was red bean ice cream and then top shelf sake. The food was truly amazing, but it was the full experience that really and truly impressed. This is the place to go to feel like a VIP. There are many places in this town that make us feel like all we are to them is a walking wallet, existing only to hand them money in exchange for their overpriced and entirely shitty excuses for food in the hopes we're tourists that don't know any better. Here I felt like someone's friend, someone of actual value. That is the reason I would give Shogun a 6th star if I could. I will enter these doors again, and sit down in front of Kaz again, and I have no doubt whatsoever, it will be another incredible experience. Thank you, Kaz for crafting such a wonderful new memory and for reminding me it's still possible to be truly impressed in this town where people sell $10 grilled cheeses that taste like wood and everyone can't wait to burn their money for the chance to pretend it's food.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant of all time. I've eaten sushi all around the world (though not in Japan), and this is still my favorite. The sushi quality is always top notch, and if Tony's working behind the counter, you can get some amazing chef's choice rolls (but if you're sitting at the sushi bar and he sees you dipping the sushi he's made in soy sauce, he'll fuss at you). They also have sushi I've never had anywhere else, like quail egg shooters and sour plum rolls (which are my favorite). And, they have an "authentic Japanese" portion of the menu. I've been here so many times that I've tried pretty much everything on the menu, and the only things I haven't enjoyed have been foods that aren't quite in-line with the American palate (like fermented soybeans). Their hibachi is also quite good, but pricey, and I enjoy sushi more, so I rarely eat the hibachi. The squid steaks are an interesting and delicious choice. I like this place so much that for about a year I ate her once or twice a week. Quality and service have always met or exceeded my expectations.

Note: this review is only for the hibachi experience Ok, so I'm trying to be a little tougher with my reviews because I know I can be a real softie. I would normally rate this place 4 stars but it really is a very solid 3 stars! I think to date my favorite hibachi has been at Little Tokyo in Mid City. Omg their filet mignon hibachi was so good I can still taste it in my mouth! Back to my review, can you tell I'm easily distracted? Well, I learned my lesson from the last time I had hibachi and this time shared the filet mignon hibachi with hibachi rice with my friend. I had already eaten before this dinner bc I brought Popeyes to my BFF and his sick Mom so this was like a second dinner. And since most restaurants serve so much food with their hibachi my friend and I decided to split an order and I also got some snow crab rolls. It was my nephew's birthday and there were like 10 of us which took over an entire hibachi table. Moon was our hibachi chef and he was hilarious. He was very patient with a table full of Asian people with phone cameras taking slow mo cool movies of him lighting the oil on fire and making the onion volcano erupt! He even juggled the sticks that were on fire, very cool! We had a great time and he kept us entertained for the whole evening! He even lit the oil on fire a second time when I asked him to bc I didn't take a good picture. Yup, I know I'm high maintenance and I own it! I would be remiss if I forgot to mention Midori who was our main waitress and the other waiters and waitresses that cleared our table most efficiently. The service was excellent and one of the owners came out to check on us. One of our friends used to work at Shogun when she was 18 years old and they still remember her! Amazing! Everyone seemed very pleased by their food. We ordered the whole gamut with filet mignon, shrimp, chicken, scallops, snow crab sushi, and a cucumber wrapped yellowtail, salmon and tuna roll, ice cream and fried bananas. It was a nice touch that they brought ice cream with a candle for my nephew as we sang happy birthday! It was such a fun evening! Happy hibachi eating!

The food was terrible. I had the tuna sandwich, Utah rolls, tuna tataki, fried rice and sashimi special. The rolls had way too much of the mayo sauce and the sashimi was cut incorrectly. It was a thick cut that left the fish chewy. Upon leaving the restaurant, there waa a swarm of roaches in the parking lot! To say, I will not be back

If you want good hibachi then PLEASEE go to Miyako instead. It tastes so much better, is a over all better looking place, and in a better neighboorhood. Miyako has a more organized and better dining experience.

Yum yum tasty like Benihana but it's not a chain. Kind of looks like a shit box from the road but don't judge a book by it's cover. Got into a big 'ole fight with my boyfriend here so I sort of left some bad energy behind (sorry) but I think you should still give it a whirl, anyway. We did habachi not sushi. Meal was consistently good from beginning to end (aside from the arguing), as was the service! I want some fried rice now!

I used to think this was the best sushi spot in the city. But now, ehh, maybe it's not the best, but it's certainly a worthy experience. There was a lot of build up for me growing up about the infamous Shogun hibachi and sushi dining experience. My dad used to take us there when we were kids for "special occasions" for the hibachi dinner. Of course, as anyone with kids knows, this was no cheap dining expense. I still think their hibachi experience is great, but I find their sushi/sashimi lunch and dinner options to be extremely overpriced for the portions. I think at one time, I would definitely pay that kind of money for an exotic sushi experience if this was still 1990-something and Shogun was one of the first and few sushi dining restaurants in the area (and it was). But now, the thing is, there are SO MANY great Japanese restaurants popping up all over the place with the same quality and way better prices and portions. Recently I went back to Shogun and paid $27 for a 4 pieces of tempura fried vegetables, 4 slices of sashimi and soup for their dinner sashimi/tempura combination. I don't know if I'm just being an extremely frugal person here, but that's pretty steep. My main sushi places around town are Little Tokyo, Sushi Village and Sake Cafe and if I paid $27 worth of food at any of those places, you better bet I'd be taking home a box of leftovers. At Shogun I just sort of feel like I'm still missing something at the end of it all. In fact, I ended up snacking later that night because I honestly was not full from dinner. Also, the servers are not entirely friendly at Shogun. I always feel a little awkward and rushed when being served here. They have a very, "what do you want? do you want anything else? Ok here's your check" sort of vibe here that tends to occasionally rub me the wrong way. Again, I by no means think this is a bad place. The quality of their food certainly is not lacking here at all. I just think it's once good name is not enough to make me a die hard fan of this place and I can think of much better places to go for a sushi fix that's only a stone throw away from their location.

Some of the best sushi creations that have ever been tasted by my taste buds came from here. When sitting at the sushi bar, always try to order from the specials menu - it is most definitely worth it. The sushi chefs are always a pleasure - kind, professional and helpful with any questions you may have. The hibachi stations are okay, in my opinion. There are other hibachi restaurants in the area that are a little more spacious and accommodating for large parties.

I'm just going to put this out there. I don't get it. I kind of get it for lunch, but definitely not for dinner. The price for dinner hibachi with fried rice is obscene. We're talking opening price of $25 for chicken hibachi dinner. In what world? Yes, I know you are getting entertainment, but call me a party pooper I just don't find it worth it. I will say that the portions are simply huge, too big for one person and don't even think about splitting because you will be punished. Lunch is a different story, the prices are cheaper so if you must I would suggest to go for lunch.

Shoguns is my go-to place for hibachi. I'll write a more in-depth review whenever I have their sushi. I've gone here numerous times for birthdays, etc. They were very helpful in hiding the cake and keeping it cool while providing plates and forks and allowing our big party to eat after we finished our meal although the restaurant was getting busy. Hibachi there is alright, but better than most places I've gone to in the surrounding areas. On one occasion, my boyfriend, my sister, and I were forced to share a table with another group of people because they couldn't seat us three at our own table. I'm not sure if this is acceptable, but it was the first time it had occurred to me. Quite awkward. The hibachi has strong hints of garlic and loads of butter every time I go (which may or may not be a good thing). It was especially garlic-y my last visit because the other group requested it to be. I always get the steak and shrimp, and my sister got the steak and chicken, which was delicious, to my surprise. Our chef stumbled a lot with the tricks. I didn't mind, but I actually felt bad because you could tell he was extremely nervous. Heck, I would be too swinging spatulas and eggs every where! The routine is redundant to me because I see the same act every visit at every hibachi restaurant. I found it strange the you have to pay extra for the hibachi fried rice. My little sister didn't order any, but she received some anyways because there were leftovers after the chef portioned the rice for everyone The soup and salad that comes with the meal are alright. Not too bad or good. The water tastes like tap water every time. My boyfriend whispered it to me, and I was definitely thinking the same thing! Overall, it's not the best, but it's good for Louisiana! I heard their sushi is good though..

Still one of the best sushi places in the area if not the best. I've been going here for almost two decades. This means they are busy. This is a good thing. You want high turnover in a sushi restaurant. That means the fish are fresh and they are always very fresh here. The sushi guys, waiters, and waitresses are always very nice. Additionally, the prime location on Veterans not far off of Causeway, means that it is convenient to go to on your way to or from the city. On my 16th birthday, my mom took me here for lunch and then to see Dangerous Liasions. I felt so cosmopolitan. My most recent meal here was last night (and also with my mother). We shared a rainbow roll and some kind of special roll. Both were excellent.

Sushi is ok. Not the greatest fish quality, lots of farm raised crap. Get the Appetizers and small plates. The spicy miso soup, smeji mushrooms are divine and redeeming enough to make this get a semi regular visit since the early 90's.

My companion had been here quite a few times and decided I should try this place as well. We came in around 9:30 p.m., reading online as well as here that they close at 11pm. We chose to sit at a table since I wanted a hibachi entree and he preferred sushi. We were greeted promptly and orders were taken and served in a timely manner. The food was good. Just good, nothing special but nothing negative. Our waitress did not check back with us at any point during the meal. Around 10:40pm, another server walked up mid-meal and said "Hey guys we are about to close, any last minute orders or are you okay?" We responded we were fine, but checked our phones to see if we were there past closing time. Immediately after the other sever walked away our waitress sat down the check in front of us and walked off. At this point, it was obvious we were being rushed out, 15 minutes before they closed, with other patrons still in the establishment. The staff was hanging around in front of the sushi bar, facing us, just waiting for us to go. So threw the rest of our food in a to go box, paid, and left...at 10:45pm. Food was decent, but as a service industry veteran myself, it's crucial that you treat the last guest of the night the same as the first guest of the day. There's nothing that ruins an experience more than being rushed out, with ample time before closing. Experience ruined.

Not great. Not bad. Just okay. I've been told to go back for the hibachi, so maybe that's where the honey pot is. Quick service, good prices/value for quantity, decent flavor. Good for a quick work week lunch.

My wife and I came here for dinner one night and sat at the hibachi table. We ordered the lobster tail & steak entree for her and I had the shrimp and steak entree with a California roll as an appetizer. The hibachi chef comes out with a cart with filled with all the ingedients to make what everyone has ordered and makes a fun display of everything he makes starting from the delicious fried rice and does some cool tricks with the eggs. Each entree comes with miso soup, a small salad and the fried rice. We had a California roll for an appetizer as well which was delicious. The steak could have been a lil more well seasoned, and although we asked for it medium it came out well done, but overall it was a great experience. Be ready for the chef to play a game where he flips shrimp off the grill into each persons mouth!!! I hear they have 1/2 off lunch specials... We will be back!!

This is hands down the best Hibachi and Sushi I have ever had in the USA. The flavor profile of the food mimics the true taste of Japanese cuisine. I lived in Japan for over a year in my younger days and this place brings back all the great memories of fresh sushi and the great food that I once had is now available here.

My review is for sushi only. I'm originally from California and feel like a little but of a sushi snob in New Orleans - most of it just isn't that good. Shogun was the best sushi I had in New Orleans, and some of the best I've had ever. We were recommended by a chef friend to go to Shogun and sit at the sushi bar, and to trust Kaz (spelling? unsure), so we did and went with the Omakase chef's tasting. Oh my gosh! I keep describing it as life changing- and I'm not kidding. Each nigiri was better than the last. We had Spanish mackerel, amberjack, tuna, countless others - but the best by far was the fresh scallop nigiri with foie gras on top. BEST THING I'VE EVER EATEN. Most sushi places make a scallop salad with mayonnaise - not Kaz, it was amazing and I could literally weep thinking I may never taste that again. The nigiri kept coming, about 2/3 I had to switch to one piece per round because I was so full but didn't want to miss out on anything. We ended with a dessert roll full of cream cheese and sweet but fried and so good, truly the best meal I've had in ages. Our server was also super attentive and kept our sake full, such a great experience! Just like Jiro dreams of sushi, I dream of sushi by Kaz.

This review is so overdue that it's utterly ridiculous. I've been patronizing Shogun since circa 1999 and have probably eaten here at least 200 times. So it definitely goes without saying that this is my all time favorite sushi spot, and I've eaten sushi at a lot of places, including several in the Los Angeles area that are top notch. The owners (I think their names are Ms. Mikki & Mr. Charlie) mainly work the register at the front of the restaurant. They also act as hosts and hostess, greet their customers and walk the floor to mingle with the patrons. However, it is Tony, the long time sushi chef / manager that is the face of Shogun, as he has been there for probably 20 + years. Tony is a skilled sushi chef and is always helping out behind the sushi bar; and everywhere else in the restaurant for that matter. Even while preparing delicious sushi, he is always keeping one eye on the restaurant and the other on the kitchen staff. And no matter how busy he is, he always has time for pleasant conversation while he is preparing your food. Before I get to the food, I'd like to give props to the sushi chefs who are no longer there, but have left a lasting impression on many customers. Kevin - One of the most outgoing and talented chefs ever to work there, and now owns his own place in Oceanside, CA. Everyone wanted to sit at Kevin's station and it was not uncommon to wait for 30 minutes just to sit in front of him. Elvis - Very friendly and a talented chef. Opened Kanno sushi in Fat City. Ed - Very young and a little soft spoken if you were not a regular. But he was talented beyond his years. Yuino - She was the first female sushi chef that I recall working at Shogun and immediately had a large following. And I mean a very large following. She created some truly delicious and intricate dishes, but moved to L.A. The good news is that aside from Tony, there are three regular sushi chefs that have all been here for a little while. And you would not be disappointed with any of them, as I have gotten sushi from each of them dozens of times. Ronald is the quietest of the 3 and is often at the far end of the sushi bar preparing a lot of "to go" orders. But don't let his quiet demeanor fool you, as he is an accomplished sushi chef. Hiroshi is from the Los Angeles area and reminds me a little of Kevin. He is very outgoing, very talkative and very creative in his sushi preparation. Always a good spot to eat and have fun. Kaz is one of the newest chefs and also from the Los Angeles area. I prefer to call him a sushi artist as his creativity is on a level all its own. If you want a truly unique experience, give him a try. Now for the food. Since there are so many wonderful dishes here, I am going to give you a brief synopsis of a few of my favorite dishes: 1. Tuna sandwich - Imagine a finger sandwich in which the bread was tuna and the meat was actually snow crab and blue crab. Served with a spicy mayo sauce on the side. This is my all time favorite dish. 2. Tuna shogun style - chopped tuna sashimi, topped with green onions, avocado and masago. Served in a bowl on top of a dressing of oil & balsamic vinegar. 3. Halibut sushi - This is not always available, as it is not a Gulf fish. But it is absolutely the most tender, buttery, semi-sweet piece of fish you'll ever try. I kid you not that you don't even need teeth to eat this tender fish. By far and above my favorite sushi. 4. Japanese red snapper sushi - My 2nd most favorite sushi. This is also a semi-sweet fish that has a very light taste but with a little more texture than the halibut. The following items are fully cooked for those of you not ready to try the raw stuff: 5. Baked scallop sushi - Chopped but fully cooked scallops on top of rice, wrapped in seaweed and topped with green onion, sesame seeds and a deliciously sweet BBQ eel sauce. 6. Steve roll - Don't let the simple name fool you, as this is one of my favorite rolls. It starts as a snow crab roll, but the exterior of the roll is topped with alternating slices of BBQ eel & avocado and then topped with sesame seeds and drizzled with sweet BBQ eel sauce. Other restaurants have similar rolls and are often called caterpillar rolls due to the resemblance to an actual caterpillar. 7. Blue crab roll - There is no imitation crab here. Just hunks or pure white lump blue crab meet with avocado & masago. Simple but delicious. 8. Hamachi kama - For those who are not at all adventurous, the Hamachi kama is for them. In its simplest terms, it is a piece off broiled yellowtail. However, the cut is from the gill are and is known for its "marbled" fat content and buttery light texture. Served with a ponzu sauce, it is delicious. Don't forget to add the crushed radish to the ponzu sauce. This is a limited item as there are only so many to go around. So order early as it is also cooked/broiled to order. Out of space so I'll discuss the hibachi bar later.

I have officially crossed this establishment off my list. Today, we sat down in the restaurant side to order as my husband and I wanted sushi. My daughter is allergic to shellfish and wanted to order steak off the hibachi menu. The server told us that was not available and I asked to speak to the Manager who told us our daughter would have to go and sit at the hibachi table to eat. Really?! She said it was because they weren't cooking on that side of the restaurant. Last time I checked it was one restaurant. That is like saying if you aren't sitting at the bar you can't order a glass of wine. Needless to say we paid for our drinks and drove to the next sushi restaurant and won't be returning. They were very rude and unaccommodating.

Quick service. Came for lunch and ordered tempura and sushi combo off the lunch menu: it is A LOT of food. It was ~$10. Comes with fried rice, a soup, and a boat of veggies, fruits, and tempura variety. Plus a full plate of sashimi and sushi. Excellent food. Also had a side of Snow Crab roll, shrimp tempura roll, california-- very good and very filling. Snow Crab was my favorite of the three. Came out very full and worth the money!

I have been to this restaurant several times in the past. The food is satisfactory, but some, not all, of the people that work here are unkind and rude. I have attempted to order over the phone, but it is just too frustrating to actually talk to the man and woman who answer the phone. I understand that this establishment has been in business for many years, but this does not allow the workers to treat a customer unjustly. As a business owner, I respect each and every customer and believe in the saying, "the customer is always right." I'm not sure if these people have heard this saying. To conclude, I will never return to this restaurant.

Prior to Shogun, I have never been to a Sushi place that I would willingly go back to. To define 'willingly" : It's man for 'would go without a woman dragging me'. To use it in a sentence : I went to Shogun willingly, she didn't even have to put out. This would be the opposite of going to see a Tyler Perry movie, shopping, or getting a mani-pedi. After I got divorced, it seemed like every girl I dated wanted to get sushi by date 3 (If I got to that many). Before this I had never tried it. The first time I tried it, the girl ordered everything knowing I was a raw fish virgin. So about 6 mini rolls come out so we could try them all. By the 3rd bite I was like a little kid spitting food out and wiping his tongue with his napkin. She was a nice girl but strangely she become a nun and moved to a convent in Romania after this dinner. I swear I saw her a few months later but it couldn't have been her because this girl sprinted in the opposite direction after seeing me. So other girls have tried to get me to try various sushi places, always saying this one is "THE BEST". I always left thinking "it was ok but I'm in no hurry to come back" BUT THEN.....the ladyfriend and I went to Shogun! Shogun looks like a shithole dive bar from the outside but is really nice on the inside. You walk in to the hostess and immediately choose your own adventure. You can go left and eat hibachi with all the other suburbanites who think they are dining ethnically. You can go straight to the sushi bar and eat while you check out the sushi chefs do their thing. Or you can be like me and go right for the traditional sit down menu ordering kind of dining. This is where I learned there is so much more to dining in a Japanese restaurant than raw fish wrapped in rice and scrambled egg tossing chefs. They had a grilled fish, tons of soups, beef dishes and the usual sashimi, and sushi rolls. I order the beef tataki to start . It's a raw cold beef dish in some sauce. Great flavor. I then reluctantly ordered the spicy tuna roll. It was a really flavorful tuna and avacado wrapped in the usual seaweed covered in rice. It was great! That's the first time I can say that. Shogun, is it the baddest? Sho' Nuff! Is it the greatest? Sho' Nuff! Is it the tastiest? Sho' Nuff! (All you young whipper snappers that don't get the Last Dragon reference, Netflix that shit!)

Shogun has awesome sushi and a great hibachi experience. My favorites here are the tuna sandwich, which consists of a typical snow-crab blend stuffed between two pieces of tuna, just like a small sandwich, and the hibachi experience. I like to come for lunch and get the filet with fried rice. Very good, and reasonably priced. The only problem I have is with parking. It is always very difficult to get a parking spot, especially around lunch time as this is a popular place for business lunches. BOTTOM LINE: Probably the best all around Japenese dining experience in the NOLA area. Bad parking.

This is the most popular place for Japanese in the area. Consistently solid food is the calling card, and they also do a tasty hibachi here. I've been here many times over the years - always been a dependable spot for larger parties.

Great restaurant for couple or groups! It fit very well! They are very fast, and efficient. The food is always hot . The staff are very friendly. It my second time in two weeks although I own a restaurant!

Pretty sure I acquired mild food poisoning after eating at this establishment last night. I had the tempura udon and a crunchy roll. Both had a fishy taste leaving me to suggest that they weren't fresh. The soup was so fishy not even siracha could help. The crunchy roll fell apart before it even left the plate which is where I wished I'd left it because once In my mouth I wanted to vomit. I'm not one to complain so I tried to enjoy my night out but once I started looking around I noticed how dirty this place is. Can we introduce the owners to a thing called dusting??? The dust is so thick above the sushi bar it's a wonder they pass health code regulations. Its not the weekly dust it's the not dusted in years dust!!! Please clean!! After being sick all night and most of today I finely feel better. I only wish that the owners read this and attempt to do some cleaning and check their products for freshness. The one star is for ease of parking.

First time at a hibachi place. That's right. I've never been to here (at least not since it was a pizza place in the 80s); my niece was stunned too. I did not have the sushi but other people at my table did and it looked delicious. My group had an assortment of dinners. At first I thought the price was a bit high, but then I saw how much food you got. Seriously I ate my "dinner" for 3 additional meals. My shrimp were perfectly cooked and my dinner companions enjoyed their steak, lobster, scallops and chicken. My only criticism would be that I found the fried rice a bit greasy. There was a veggie dinner option but the soup that comes with has a seafood broth and, of course, your veggies will be cooked adjacent to meat and seafood. I did enjoy the hibachi antics... the egg split on the spatula, the onion volcano, the flipping knives, and corny jokes. I did decline the offer to catch shrimp bits in my mouth. I'm way to spazzy for that.

This is the ONLY serious sushi place in the New Orleans area. And it is much better than the others by a mile. This is a place for people who love fresh sushi and that doesn't come out cold. And they fly in great fish overnight from Japan. They have delicious snapper, amberjack, and so on flown in from Japan. How are the rolls? I don't know or care because I rarely eat them. But the nigiri sushi is top notch. The raw scallop sushi is a definite must.

Here's a hint: sit at the sushi bar. The service diminishes when you sit at a table. Look at what the sushi chef is creating for the other customers and don't be afraid to go off menu. The chefs know their stuff and can create some orgasmic creations. I normally just get the metairie roll to go but when I sit down and eat I treat myself to something special.

I honestly have no clue why people like this place. My friend INSISTED we come here for lunch. We argued for over an hour. She convinced me their hibachi is good; I told her fine. We arrive and waited over 10 mins for the host to notice us. They were crowded, but this place always seems packed. We told her I wanted hibachi; she said we can order that at a regular table since there's no room for us at hibachi. So we go to our seat and place our drink orders. When the waitress comes back, I told her I wanted hibachi. She said that's a separate section so we'd have to close our check and pay before we can go over to hibachi. I only have an hour for lunch so I declined, even though I'm pretty pissed at this point. My friend swore by the Shogun lunch (tempura with two yakitoris- 1 chicken, 1 beef skewers) so we got two of those. As usual, it was not good. Greasy fried rice, mayo all over some frozen steamed broccoli, horrendous tempura (overnight-wasn't even crunchy) with watery lemony tempura sauce. The only thing decent was the teriyaki sauce they put on the yakitoris- until I bit into my chicken teriyaki and realized it wasn't fully cooked. Never again. In fact, I was so disgusted by this whole Shogun experience, I've been questioning my relationship with said friend. As a foodie, I'm actually insulted that I forced to come to this subpar restaurant and eat the stuff they claim to be authentic Japanese food. The only selling point were the portions. But if you're the type that prefers quality over quantity, or edible over food not cooked at safe temperatures, then play stomach Roulette at this place.

really great lunch prices. I got the sushi roll lunch. They have a TON of different rolls and options on the menu. The wife got the steak teriyaki lunch. The hibachi rice left something to be desired. I enjoyed my meal, but the service was a little slow. I chalk that up to English being a second language. Everyone was super nice and accommodating. Great value and would go again to try something very different.

Love the food here! The fact that they cook it right in front of you, and even provide some entertainment while doing it, makes it one of my favorite restaurants. Only negative is that there is always a wait for the hibachi side, but that's just because this place is super!

  • Tonya T.

One star on service three stars on the food. This place was so slow. My son and I put our names on the hibachi grill list. We decided to go to the dining side. We sat down was waited on, we received our drinks and when we placed our order of grilled shrimp the waitress told us they couldn't get anything but fried rice from the grill. We had to go back to the Hibachi grill side, put our names on the list. The wait for the night was 3 hrs. Ridiculous. I know, you're thinking why did you wait forth at long, why did you not go to another restaurant because.... We love the crunchy roll! Lol

I truly enjoy this the atmosphere for this place. Every time we come to New olrwans, we make it a stop, the hibachi is a fun experience for the family and the food is definitely fresh..I have come here on several occasions and it has not yet disappointed me. The hibachi, sake, some sashimi on the side is what we go for. I definitely don't like shrimp being tossed into my mouth but I'm just not that sportmanlike. When I order hibachi, I do the steak and calamari, they do way too much salt and soy sauce sometimes for my taste buds but it's all good. Each order comes with a a salad, soup, rice, veggies and shrimp thrown at your face plus some good old fiery onion to entertain the kids I loved it as a kid so I take my kid with me now. Talk about feeling old. The sushi about nd sashimi is definitely fresh, I mean with a eat every time we get there, why wouldn't it be. I would recommend this sushi spot over most others in Metairie, they just get it right.

Three thumbs up!!! If you're looking for an authentic delicious Japanese restaurant, definitely go here! My parents and I have been going to this Japanese sushi restaurant since I was a toddler. They offer a wide range of Japanese food (sushi, Japanese dishes, and hibachi). The nice Japanese atmosphere (tatami mats, decor, etc.) adds another layer to the Japanese dining experience. In addition, the people are really nice and the sushi is delicious. Here are the following reasons why Shogun is the best Japanese restaurant in the area: 1) AUTHENTIC Japanese Sushi & food, unlike most of the Japanese restaurants that are Korean or Chinese owned nowadays. 2) They actually speak/understand JAPANESE. 3) DIVERSE selection of Japanese food to choose from: Sushi, Sashimi, Bento, Hibachi, etc. 4) NICE STAFF. Polite, courteous and friendly. 5) Japanese people choose Shogun to eat Japanese food. 6) My parent's SEAL OF APPROVAL. My parents are selective eaters and they love this place for Japanese food. Need I say more? If you don't believe me, go check it out for yourself. I promise you won't regret it! (^_^) My parents are 100% Japanese and they say this is as good as it gets.

I've been coming here religiously with my family since I was at least 7 years old. 20 years later, I am still a regular when in town and the place is honestly the best sushi I've ever had anywhere I've been. Consistently fresh sushi and they give you nice portions of sushi as well. I've never had a bad roll. I must say, I have only had the hibachi once so I can't really speak to that but if you are looking for solid rolls/sashimi/etc, this is a great choice! Love shogun!!!

Arrived at 5:30 Christmas Eve, 3 empty hibachi tables. Two large groups walked in behind us and owner told us they couldn't seat us tonight. She didn't say it would be an hour, just no. Empty tables, but you can't eat here. Done. Found another Hibachi restaurant nearby who welcomed our business, and the part of 15 Shogun ran off. What buttheads.

So Kanno is closed until February 12 (my heart is broken), which gave us the perfect opportunity to try Shogun for sushi for the first time. We have tried their hibachi and it was a good experience. In my opinion, it's not the best hibachi I've ever had, but good enough. This time we tried the Baked Salmon appetizer, "Tuna Sandwich" (my favorite!), crunchy roll, spicy tuna roll, snowcrab roll, and the Utah roll. Everything was great and the service was fantastic. No wonder everyone raves about this place.

Visited Shogun for Hibachi last Sunday and everything was fantastic! I ordered the Seafood Combination which consisted of Lobster, Scallops, and Shrimp. In addition, I ordered a Filet on the Side. The Hibachi rice was absolutely delicious and flavorful. The grilled veggies were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The seafood was fresh. I ordered my steak medium. It was cooked a little more than medium, but I didn't complain because it was still very tender. The restaurant is definitely outdated, but don't let that deter you from going. I was very pleased with the food!

The sushi is pretty great, although we always go for hibachi and order a roll as an appetizer. The crunchy roll is my favorite. As for the hibachi, it's good. The rice is consistently good and the meats (we usually get steak and chicken) is always cooked perfectly! Certain chefs are better than others but that's probably true at any hibachi place! Ask for Dexter, he is hands down the best!

AWESOME HIBACHI! I love it.! I always get the chefs choice but the only problem I have is the waiters act towards me. They always have that rude feeling and rush feeling. I didn't like it. So I gave it one star less. My sister and I order some sushi, the rainbow and tuna box (I LOVED the tuna box), and the lady slammed it on our plates. And then two more people came onto to our table and made me move all the way over which made me mad. Because she made me move my plate on my own and also made me push my trash away. I wasn't upset just thought she was giving me a your not an important customer. It's fine. Overall I enjoyed the food so despite the service I got I would really recommend the chefs choice.

Ate here for the first time last night and will definitely be going back. I sat at the hibachi table with my companion and ordered a couple of rolls for appetizers. Overall, it was a very tasty and enjoyable dinner. The rolls we had were delicious. I think next time I'll just eat sushi and skip the hibachi... Not that it wasn't good, because it was, but because I want to try more of their sushi. After our rolls, out came the usual soup and salad. This was, by far, the low point of the meal. The soup had no flavor, I'm wondering if it was anything more than just hot water with a few noodles and green onions. I had 2 spoonfuls and pushed it aside. The salad was equally disappointing... I was hoping for the standard ginger dressing, but this wasn't it... more like Italian dressing, which I love but not what I want when eating Japanese food. I only ate a couple of bites. Turns out that skipping the soup and salad was a good idea because portions of the rest of the meal were HUGE. Started with fried/hibachi rice. It was good, but it's kinda crazy that they charge an additional $4.75 for it. One of the people at our table ordered it spicy... which I'll definitely do next time. (Spicy just means they add Sriracha sauce, so don't ask for spicy if you're not a fan of the rooster.) All of the dinners come with a shrimp appetizer... I got the House Special which is steak and shrimp, so the appetizer was just lagniappe. (It's same hibachi cooked shrimp that comes with the dinner.) I find that hibachi food can be kind of bland at times. Not at Shogun... everything was cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. Be forewarned, don't eat the hibachi if you're got an issue with garlic or butter! The chef was super liberal with both ingredients, which worked for me. I was initially disappointed that they didn't have the usual "pink sauce" that I've come to associate with hibachi. You get 2 sauces, neither are pink, but both are okay... And then the chef breaks out the "cajun butter"... he puts a big pat of seasoned butter in the dishes and leaves them on the grill to melt, then later adds some sauteed garlic. Yum. In addition to the rice and veggies, they also do noodles. Meh, they were ok but it was already so much food that I could've done without. It was on the expensive side, right at $100 for 2 people, but that's pretty standard for hibachi so it wasn't a shock. All in all, it was a really good meal, very entertaining and we made some new friends. I'll definitely go back.... and probably wear a pair of stretchy pants, LOL.

Expecting just another "meh" sushi restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I got the Steve Roll (see photo) and the Tuna Sandwich (also photo). Great Miso Soup. Good Plum Wine. Service was good and we wound up talking to a local who was a weekly regular at Shogun...that should tell you it's good, especially when there's so many alternatives in the area. I wish it was closer to me and not in Metry, but it was good enough to definitely make return trips!

Shogun is a big restaurant separated by two dining area: Hibachi and Sushi. I was in a sushi kind of mood so with their direction, we seated ourselves near the sushi bar. The inside of the restaurant matched the outside of the building. It was a bit dated and a little run down. It was clean but dark with poor lighting and visually not the nicest of places. The staff was very attentive which is normally nice but it became annoying when several different people constantly stopped by the table and when they were not at the table they were stationed nearby staring at you waiting for you to need something. Bad service is one thing but being stared at while eating isn't a good feeling either. We ordered three Maki rolls: Crawfish, Crunchy and Spicy rolls. The roll were fairly small and taste wise were just average. Nothing stood out so there is not much to say, but I did enjoyed the Crunchy Roll the most. We also ordered the Rainbow Roll. Despite the larger price tag, it too was nothing special. However, I will say that the fish tasted fresh. Although the sushi wasn't spectacular, it was good. It was good enough that I would be willing to come back and try the Hibachi. My only complaint would be that they just need to work on the presentation of the restaurant.

Shogun is probably the best Japanese restaurant in the Metairie and New Orleans area. A lot of celebrities dine here...famous TV stars, famous Chefs (incluing Emerils), and notable public figures. I can see why, the food is authentic and actually made by japanese chefs. The owner and manager are great people...I highly recommend it!

The sushi is very good here. Great restaurant atmosphere, great food, and great service. There is also a wide variety for the sushi connoisseur, including 4 (maybe 6, forgot how many) hibachi tables. The restaurant has been around for at least 30 years, well before Japanese food and sushi began trending in this country. Have been repeating and will continue to do so.

This is my favorite hibachi place in the United States. The food is well seasoned and the chefs and wait staff are very personable. Most of the chefs here cook with garlic and plenty of garlic butter. My preferred chef is Dexter! He is the best chef there and extremely entertaining. LOL. Jen and Miyako are nice and very attentive. I also like their edamame, shrimp tempura, vegetable tempura and snow crab rolls. I have been eating here for about 11 years and it is consistently of great quality.

very poor customer service. never greeted to after 20 mins., had to get up and ask. then waited 10 mins for water. then sushi bar took 25 mins to make order. owner tried to pawn off cheap wine for mistake. paid my full bill, after discussing with owner. been eating here for 15 yrs, yesterday was my last time. customer service is key in keeping quality customers.

Wow! Great Place. Don't be fooled by the outside, food and service is top notch. We had various dishes from sushi to chicken teriyaki. All were fantastic. Our only complaint is that the chicken was a little dry. I'm not usually a fan of sushi in the USA, it is Americanised with being twice the size it should be and often filled with cream cheese and "crispies". This however was the real deal (mostly, I totally understand catering for your customers requires a few necessities). Our waitress (I think her name was Rachel?) was the best, she checked all of the boxes for a good waitress. She wasn't afraid to step up her game when the restaurant became busy either. She is definitely an asset! We will be back!

I think it's safe to say Shogun is the the best hibachi place in New Orleans and surrounding areas. When dealing with raw fish and sushi i expect a place to look an smell clean an thats just what shogun offers. You are greeted by everyone working as soon as you walk through the door. How much more of a welcome do you want, I mean sheesh!

Baked kaibashira, Utah Roll, and Chicken teriyaki was OK. For the Utah roll, there is a huge layer between the rice and the tuna/avocado which has imitation crab. It does not taste good. I just throw it away. Baked kaibashira & Utah Roll cost 25 bucks. A bit too much for lunch.

I've been frequenting this restaurant for decades and this truly is the BEST sushi/sashimi place in all of Greater New Orleans. I have ordered almost everything on the menu here and I rarely go to the hibachi area. The lunch menu prices are more reasonable than the dinner menu, and it seems you get the same portion size (which is huge). The staff is always friendly and the sushi chefs are very skilled. I love the baked seafood and the tuna box is the best in the city. I usually get the sashimi and tempura lunch combo. It comes with clear (broth) soup, bean sprout salad, rice, cabbage salad, steamed broccoli, tempura veggies, tempura chicken and shrimp and a lovely plate of sashimi. The green tea (hot) is delicious and it rounds out a delicious dining experience. My kids always loved this restaurant, now that they are adults they introduce their friends to the best, most authentic Japanese restaurant in NOLA.

4.5 stars here! Everything was good...my friend knew the Sushi bar chef...and Tony was awesome! You can actually get good sushi in the DEEP SOUTH? Yeah you can....in Metairie too! You can't compare it to NOSHI in L.A...but i'd be at this place all the time if I lived in NOLA. They have the Benehana style hibachi grill too. Fresh food/sushi, good service...good times and company! Missing the 5 stars cause this place was actually quite expensive!

  • Shannon S.

This is probably the oldest sushi and hibachi restaurant in the New Orleans area. They are consistently good and they are probably the best hibachi in the metro region. From the outside this place doesn't look like much but the interior is much nicer than you would assume from the exterior. Personally I think the hibachi is better than the sushi and I generally prefer the sushi at Kanno but Shogun does have some great spicy sauces they use on their sushi.

  • Deanna S.

Nice, inexpensive hibachi lunch for 2 ran about $30. We had a huge portion of steak & chicken, along with veggies, noodles and rice. I'm not sure if it's worth the dinner prices I saw, but for lunch, not bad at all!

  • Mike K.

Consistently awesome sushi and hibachi for decades. This is one sushi spot that has Japanese chefs. If you are a Japanese speaker or have Japanese friends in town, this is the spot to feast. If you're doing Hibachi, there is no better place in town.

  • Rene D.

Whizzing by along Veterans, you'd think this was just another mediocre attempt at Japanese in another nondescript strip mall. you'd be wrong. This is the best example of sushi and sashimi New Orleans has to offer. Mr. Tony and his crew create authentic, delicious interpretations of fish and seafood. Everything I had was fresh and fantastic. By the time I samples the sweet and delicate uni, I was transported back to California and visions of happy times flashed before my eyes.

This wasn't the best sushi I've ever eaten, it was the best food I've ever eaten. I can't vouch for the hibachi, but do yourself a favor and get a seat at the sushi bar near Koz. He is a master and from the blowtorch seared yellowtail to the scallops with wasabi soaked fish eggs, everything was incredible! Oh, don't forget the eel "burrito". Finish it off with a Bob Marley shot (Sake with quail egg and four kinds of flying fish egg) and you'll be reconsidering what you used to call sushi. Luckily I went with someone who knew what to order (which in this case was to ask Kpz for whatever he wanted to make), but if you're not sure, ask Eli if he's waiting the sushi bar and he'll set you straight.

The service here is horrible! Lady was so rude! Our food sat by the hibachi girl for 30 min before cooking it. That's so unsafe I'm surprised I didn't get sick! The lady counted get tips right in front of us I mean seriously who does that. This place is not clean at all the base boards look like roaches shit on them!!! There is a better place on St. Charles Ave!

Ever since my family has been to America this was their all time favorite sushi joint. I gotta admit the food doesn't taste as amazing as it did back in the days but it still deserves 5 stars because nobody can top their udon in my opinion. I iiterally order the same items everytime, the only things I'll switch up are the rolls. Tempura Udon: I prefer clear broth over brown so being that their broth is clear is a Plus! I love how chewy their udon is and even though there isn't alot of things going on in this broth, It still manages to be flavorful. (Also comes with shrimp tempura on the side) Baked Seafood: It used to be stuff with more seafood, now it seems to be stuffed mostly with onions but I love how creamy it is. I pair it with white rice so it isn't as rich as eatting it by itself. There is never any of this stuff left at the end of the meal. Lobster Dinner: The lobster itself is just plain but it comes in a butter sauce that is finger lickin' good. Nothing special about the lobster but I love that butter sauce. Last but not least to finish my meal off I always get an order of the crawfish and crunchy roll. Nothing too special, just regular rolls. Their crawfish roll isn't spicy like most places I've had it but its good and the crunchy roll is as any other place.

I was so excited because I saw many people in the restaurant around 10pm. However, what I got was below my expectation. We ordered 4 rolls and sushi dinner. Sushi dinner was okay, but rolls were expensive but lack. We also ordered banana tempura dessert for almost $6, but we were not given a whole banana and fried banana was not crispy at all. Maybe I should try hibachi next time instead of rolls.

Family restaurant with talented chefs that work hard to bring us back week after week. Without a doubt our favorite Japanese restaurant. Dexter is one of the most talented hibachi chefs in the city, and the guy who wears the bandana(Kazu) is one of the most talented sushi chefs I have ever seen. It is truly an honor every time I can sit in front of his bar.

Have eaten here twice now, wife and I both prefer the Hibachi side. But the sushi is good as well as the tempura items. And being a fat man, the amount of food makes me happy.

I can't say enough about this place. The chefs are phenomenal. Because of diet restrictions there are certain things i can not eat. The chefs have been able to alter much of the sushi bar menu so I can enjoy my experience. Hiroshi has actually taken it as a personal challenge to come up with something new for me to eat. The staff is great Charlie and Miki are always there with huge smiles. When it comes to favorite items- i can honestly say i don't have one because everytime I love something else. If you are adventurous and want a different twist to the regular menus and rolls go sit at the bar and talk to the chefs, they are great a making something new.

Me and my starving girlfriend got here at 9 pm for the hibachi. We had to wait for more than 40 mins for the food to come just because we were the only ones sitting on the grill table. (Hibachi seating is shared and a common chef cooks the food for all seated). Food was great but waiting for the food wasn't a fun experience.

This is what hibachi should be! Multiple dining rooms ensure you dont feel cramped and make it great for a private party and/or large group! Four hibachi grills allow personalized service and you dont feel you're part of a hibachi assembly line! Shogun has a full bar and a reasonably priced menu with something for everyone. I look forward to trying some of the other items available. The entire staff was so friendly, accommodating, and professional! Personally, I'm not a huge fan of hibachi (ok I really dont like it), but I have friends who are. I'll be sure to suggest Shogun restaurant next time they're selecting the type of food.

My boyfriend and I come here as often as we can. The staff is great and the food is AMAZING! A couple of the sushi chefs have their own super spicy sauces that they can add to your sushi if you ask for it but, be careful! My favorite is the BBQ eel roll, super tasty. I also always get an order of pan-fried gyoza. I haven't had anything besides sushi here but, I'm sure it's wonderful as well.

I am a regular at the sushi bar at Shogun and have never been disappointed. There is a new sushi chef serving some of the most creative dishes I have ever had. Kozu was imported by the owners from L. A. and is one of the best chefs I've seen. I use to order standards from the menu, but now I just allow Koz to feed me his newest creations. I suggest the halibut which is accompanied by the halibut swim fin muscle. Also try the wasabi scallops. This man makes eating at Shogun's sushi bar a real experience.

  • Heather S.

I have ONLY had the hibachi so I can't speak for the sushi, but it was just okay. You have to pay 5.75$ extra to get fried rice with your 20-30$ meal, which seams ridiculous. But the portions of meat are slightly larger than most places, they put garlic in the rice (so good), and give you bean sprouts with your rice. However, the soup and salad that comes with your meal are slightly tasteless and they don't put broccoli in their veggie mixture (zucchini, onion and mushroom). All and all if you are really craving hibachi and nothing else will satisfy you then you won't be disappointed, but for what you pay there are so many places in the city that I think your money would be better spent at.

Childhood place of mine. The seafood is always fresh and the taste ....wow the taste. The only place comparable is in Japan, which I have been to. They have great deals on different daily lunch specials, such as salmon & sushi box lunch for $15 which gives you a taste of everything. The baked seafood and snow crab rolls are great. So is their eel sushi and this bean sprout salad. I wouldn't recommend the hibachi because it seems like Chinese food to me and that's not my purpose whenever I go. The hibachi is nice if you have never been and in a group, otherwise they will sit you with other strangers which can be fun. Go to the sushi bar to observe how they make it and the sushi chefs are ever so friendly and humorous. Been to other sushi places and this is the only Japanese place that makes me happy!

I've been here more times than I can count and If the Utah roll and Green Mussles weren't soooooo good I would have maybe given it one less star. I usually sit at the sushi bar because the service isn't always the best when sitting at one of the tables. And bring a jacket! Maybe it's just me but it's always freezing in there. The appetizers have come out after our meals more than once and the sushi comes out one by one over the course of 45 minutes. Besides the service it really is a great place and the sushi is fresh. The hibachi is pretty much like any other. Big portions, good taste.

Maybe we ordered the wrong things, but we tried loads of items and left still feeling hungry.

Great Sushi and hibachi. Best time to go is for lunch. Must get snow crab rolls cut in eights. Enjoy the hibachi show every time. Add the Hibachi rice with your order.

A Japanese restaurant owned by a Japanese family, staffed by Japanese with authentic Japanese food. If you want the real thing this is the place to go.

I have been here many times, tonight i brought a guest. Service was weird, the waiter didn't know the menu. I usually order the Hamachi Kama and they were out. I was trying to avoid a plate of fried seafood so I ordered the seafood dinner...(the #4) which does not make any mention of anything fried...Gross..Fried seafood and sweet sauces, mayonnaise. Pretty bad. I do not like to complain but the menu really did not specify that the seafood was fried and the dinner was not cheap, so i ate what i could stomach because i was hungry and the service was strange, and our waiter didn't come back for a while. When he did I asked for a box and when the meal was over I told the waiter about the problems with the menu, and after he told me that I was wrong about what the menu said (I had to get a menu and show it to him) he unwillingly asked if I would like it removed from the bill I thought this was a nice gesture and said yes, please. He then came back and aggressively took the food I had in the box back, saying that since i did not like it and was not paying for it that he was going to throw it away. Fair enough. So he took the food and brought me the altered bill. Next, the owner or manager shows up with another bill saying that I ate some pieces of rice and some of the seafood bake (which was awful) and that he would charge me for the seafood bake (6.75). I argued for a minute but then realized that this was a petty argument and before I was going to allow it to escalate any further I signed the bill and left. I did not ask for anything free. The food was terrible. This was very embarrassing. I will not go back.

I didnt have any sushi so I can't comment, I had the teriyaki steak and tried a couple other things. I was a bit unimpressed with their lack of sushi/maki/sashimi choices. But maybe cuz this place seemed more like a hibachi, steak house vs a sushi restaurant. I dont know... My steak was cooked pretty on point. It wasn't tough and chewy so I enjoyed it. Downside is that they drown it with teriyaki sauce and it killed any flavor the beef naturally had. I also tried the shrimp tempura, which was pretty decent. Not gunna say that this place is the best Japanese I've had but its a pretty decent place for a regular night out.

The freshest, tastiest sushi in town. They offer all of the standard sushi and some uniquely different dishes. The fish always tastes fresh and presentation is always perfect. Many days I walk in and ask "What's good?" and am always given a dish that amazes me. You can't go wrong with the sushi here.

I've been going to Shogun for years. I can't think of anything negative. Food is always fresh. I've never had to wait long for anything. Hibachi is awesome (and fun). Service is consistantly good. Tempura lunch is perfect for a quick, tasty lunch.

Yet another review of an Asian restaurant in a strip mall in Metairie...must be a theme. I had my first taste of sushi at Shogun's original location up the street in 1982 and have been a fairly loyal customer. Yes, local raw fish snobs may scoff and prefer Wasabi (like it), Kyoto & Sake (love it) or Horinoya & Seikisui (Gotta have it!) and scoff at this suburban crowd pleaser, but ignore their hipster-informed purity-Shogun brings the goods and can be as "authentic" as any of the aformentioned luminaries. I would never describe myself as a sushi expert and I am just as likely to order something from the kitchen as I am to luxuriate in some sashimi and Shogun excells in all aspects of the Japanese restaurant experience (including hibachi grills for an amusement park ride vibe, if desired). While not an expert, I have eaten fine sushi, sashimi, crudo & tartar all over the U.S. & elsewhere and can assure you Shogun procures incredibly fresh and often rare (for these parts) selections. I just had Japanese amberjack and was floored by both the silken fish and the unexpected kick of heat and tartness from lime juice and fresh chiles. I also had one of the very best bites of food I've ever experienced in a sushi format: lobster roll had the sweet tail meat rolled with rice and avocado and topper with a brulee'd egg sauce lobe and a subtly sweet variation on teriyaki sauce, accompanied by the entire lobster shell with hefty claws and a cracker with which one could extract the luscious flesh within. The full menu is so extensive and offers myriad delights, but some days, one can offer exclusively from the specials menu and be happy as a (raw) clam. Special mention must be made of the noodle soups: nabeyaki ramen is the real deal and as good as I've had anywhere; rich broth harbors a tangle of perfectly toothsome noodles lurking beneath slabe of BBQ'd pork, colorful fishcake, a plump half of an egg and crunchy cabbage leaves. The chicken and shrimp tempura udon soups are fantastic and comforting (and quite accessible if you are dining with a finicky eater, or just hook them up with the tempura and skewered meats and you'll be free to explore sushi exotica). The service is, in my humble but nearly always correct opinion, the best of any Japanese restaurant in New Orleans and regulars are acknowledged and doted upon, but so are newcomers. Shogun is set in an old Shakey's Pizza (I'm pretty sure I dined upon pepperoni pizza while wearing a straw boater, listening to ragtime piano there in or around 1971), but the decor is now blonde wood and Japanese printed fabric and is charming if a bit more capacious than one is accustomed. I love thsi place and so will you.

Went here for lunch as I was in the area. Realistically, I was sitting in the car wash across the street for a few minutes watching how busy it was getting. As I pulled in I saw "the ladies" walk in, so if THEY eat here, it has to be good! Dining room was almost full, and they had a bevy of service staff buzzing like a bee in a bonnet. I had high expectations of this place. Well, it wasn't that good. I ordered the sushi-tempura lunch special, and the mackerel is rubbery. The salad (cole slaw?) has weird, dressing on it. The tempura tasted like everything else that was frying in the same oil. The broccoli had Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing on it! The soup that came with it had heartworm like noodles in it. The seemingly fried rice had canned looking mixed vegetables in it. Ugh! Nothing really pleased me except the service.

This place serves pretty good Japanese food considering I have eaten a lot of good Japanese food in California, but this place is pretty scrumptious. I would definitely recommend this place to all. Delicious sushi, good service, and fantastic Shogun Dinner Special.

What can I NOT say about this place? I've had their sushi, which is amazing. Their soups are quite tasty, and the hibachi is excellent. The chef knew so many jokes, tricks with the grill and he presented a whole "catch with your mouth" challenge. I had a good time laughing, and eating. Definitely reccomend to sushi and hibachi lovers.
