The boiled crawfish here are awesome and well-seasoned! This place is always packed with people waiting in line (take a number) but the line moves fast because the staff knows what they're doing. Try these crawfish before the season is over!

WORSE crawfish ever!!!!!!! They weren't seasoned like at all. The potatoes are super small. Like the size of a golf ball & they were super hard & flavorless. I wanted to just go down the street to the lake & eat crawfish so I stopped here. NEVER again!!!!! I was highly disappointed.

Been coming to Schaefer's for years and years for boiled and live crawfish when we do our own boils. Always consistently sized and priced. They got killer side dishes (crawfish empanadas, etc.) that y'all should check out too.

I stop by here almost every Friday during crawfish season. The people there are fairly nice. Every time I come here it's usually packed. So, expect a waiting time if you're coming during prime crawfish season. The crabs are good as well but they seem to always run out fast. My routine order consists of 1 hot sausage, 1 pork boudin, 4 small potatoes, 1 corn, 2 crabs, and about 3 pounds pounds of crawfish depending if they run out crabs. It's a little bit of everything.

This is my spot for picking up 5 lbs of delicious crawfish, a side of remoulade sauce, maybe a couple of crabs, a drink, and then posting up on the levee to enjoy a delicious lunch on a beautiful day. It really is one of my most favorite things to do in the city. They have so much more than that there including other fixins to nosh on, but that's what I go for. Dipping your meaty crawfish tail in the remoulade sauce (spicy, citrusy, creamy flavor) is amazing to say the least, and you'll have left over of the sauce for sure. Their crawfish are perfectly seasoned to me. I like them spicy but not so much that I can't put away a few lbs. Just remember to grab a ton of napkins and some hand-sani before you get your crawfishin' on. The staff is very sweet and attentive there. The price of crawfish fluctuates but if you pay cash it's cheaper. I really can't say much more than I have about this place, just check the hours to make sure they're open when you're craving!!

My work holds an annual employee seafood party and the highlight of the event is several hundred pounds of hot, boiled crawfish delivered from Schaefer and Rusich. It is consistently perfect-- plump, juicy and fresh. And everything has just the right amount of seasoning to appeal to a wide range of tastes. My favorite part (aside from the crawfish themselves) is the garlic. You can always count on a few cloves making onto your plate and sometimes, when the stars align and moon smiles, you get a whole head and you know that heaven on earth really does exist sometimes. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it. Everyone I've ever encountered there has been incredibly nice and easy to work with. They are dependable if you're counting on a delivery. And their prices are right on par with anywhere else in the city.

Crawfish were absolutely delicious! $3.25 a pound. The boiled shrimp though...were inedible. They were way oversalted and they were mushy and gritty like they had been sitting in dirty water for hours. The woman that waited on me was really slow! The other woman waited on 4 people in the time it took her to wait on me. Then brought me the wrong change...twice. With all of that being said...had I only gotten the crawfish and had been waited on by someone else, I would've given 5 stars.

Best place to buy seafood in New Orleans. Consistently fresh. The boiled shrimp, crawfish and crabs are done excellently. Great prices on fresh shrimp. I am always disappointed when Schaeffer's is closed and I have to go across the road to Deanie's. Note that this is a seafood shop, not a restaurant!

my friends and i always come here first to get some boiled crawfish. their corn is good too although last time, it wasn't boiled along with the crawfish. but the crawfish was so perfectly seasoned, i can't complain too much. plus they're usually cooked just right, with the meat so easy to suck out. they usually have some really nice sized one thrown in. definitely worth that line every time you walk in. and you know they gotta be good if there's always a line- with two other seafood places within two blocks. plus you never know who you're going to meet in that line. last time i was there, it was during lent and i had a cute boy in front of me in line. he asked me out on a date! i turned around and my friend was in line, impatiently sniffing the air as she waited for her crawfish. i ran over to her, excited about my news. we sat there and giggled like high school girls. once, we got our steamy hot crawfish, we were able to head over to the lake to enjoy the still steaming mudbugs. one of the best afternoons of my life. the date was great too! methinks it's the beginning of a beautiful relationship. boiled crawfish is one of the main reasons i live in new orleans. and after eating schaefer's crawfish, i don't want to go anywhere else to buy them. i grew up in bucktown so my love affair with schaefer's is now at least 25+ years. bring cash since they have different prices if you pay with credit card. and expect to be there for about 5-15 min. waiting in line. the worst part is waiting in line because you are surrounded by that wonderful boiled seafood scent. your tongue starts salivating and your stomach starts to immediately growl. luckily you know you're not the only person in pain and can commiserate with your fellow line-standers. maybe you will also find a cute boy that wants to share some awesome boiled seafood with you.

You saved me!! Local seafood store (Big Fisherman) didn't come through on a two sack crawfish order - and didn't even call. S&R did and they were cheaper. I live uptown but its worth the extra drive to get real crawfish. Great staff and fresh seafood.

This is a great place to stop in and get fresh seafood or boiled crawfish/shrimp to-go! I felt confident walking into this place for the first time today knowing there were about 20-25 other people in line at about 4pm! Don't worry- it moved fast and only those waiting on the next batch of crawfish to come out had to wait any at all. Boiled Crawfish $3.10 / 3.40 per lb. (Cash/ credit) Live Shrimp $3.50/ lb. The crawfish were delicious and mildly spiced for all to enjoy. The potatoes ($1.50/lb), corn ($.50 ea), and (best of all) garlic ($.75 ea) were great too! *Don't forget to grab a number when you walk in!

Seafood is fantastic and I'm usually in and out of there pretty quickly. However, this past Saturday I wanted to get several crabs and walked in to a line of about six people ahead of me. I pulled a number but quickly realized all of the people waiting were waiting on crawfish which were being boiled at that time. Looking at the display, I could see the crabs were ready to go and be sold. I asked the lady behind the counter if I could go ahead and purchase my crabs since everyone else was waiting on just crawfish. She stated I could not and that I would have to wait until my number came up. So, let me break it down...I had to wait for other people's order to be completed (the crawfish to be done boiling) in order for me to get my order (the half a dozen crabs looking at me) which was ready to go. That is absolutely silly. I told the lady behind the counter the exact same logic who replied with a "yep" and I told her I decided I didn't want what I was going to purchase any longer. As I was leaving she gave me a very sarcastic "bye" out the door. Great tasting seafood, horrible multi-tasking and using of logic when it comes to serving the customer.

I have used Schaefer and seafood for many years, with confidence that their crawfish would be packed well and boiled with care. I have not been disappointed for probably fifteen years or more. Until today. We opened the plastic bags expecting the aroma of spice and salt water, but when a few were peeled it was as if they confused my order with a batch that were boiled to be used for cooking.not a hint of seasoning, and they seemed to be a bit older than I paid for! I realize the demand for crawfish is at its peak right before Easter, but the mushiness was such that I believe they were two days old! These were the worse crawfish I have put to my lips in memory. Period. I will call them when I get back to town and see what their reaction is. I am not looking for any freebies or anything, just an explanation. I will follow up,I promise.

This is a good standard crawfish/crab place. It has been a while since I have been there b/c they have not had crawfish at xmas which is when I am in New Orleans but if you are there when they do have them, I dont think that you'll be disapointed. Their spice mix is a little heavier on the clove in comparison to Big Fisherman on Magazine which has more heat in their spice mix.

Full agreement with the reviews below. Nice people, quality product, and good prices. Always call in advance if you want more than 100 pounds crawfish!
