Having been born and raised in NO, I'm pretty critical when it comes to food, especially things like poboys........ However, Sammy's was recommended to me by a business colleague and I have to say, they make a poboy that stands out from most others in NO. Went with a friend and I got the hot sausage poboy and he got the shrimp.....both were absolutely terrific! The hot sausage was patty style (as it should be) and the bread was fresh and the condiments/dressings were absolutely fresh. I tried a bite of the shrimp poboy and I would go back to Sammy's just to get that. Sammy's is a breath of fresh air, in that the quality is top grade and everything is fresh and very very tasty! I'll definately be going back when I come back to NO.

I was hoping the food would be better but unfortunately I was disappointed. It wasn't bad or anything but it wasn't really good either. I placed a carry out order : 1/2 a Chicken Parmesan Poboy, a whole Cheeseburger Poboy and some Fried Artichoke Balls. The Chicken in the Chick.Parm. Poboy was overcooked and dry and the actual sandwich barely had any Marinera on it so it made it even drier. At least if they would've put more Marinera on it maybe it would've masked the fact that the Chicken was really dry. Fortunately, the Artichoke Balls came with a side of Ranch and Red Gravy (which is like Marinera Sauce) so I was able to put some on my Chicken Parm. to fix it and make it juicier. The actual Chicken itself just wasn't very flavorful, it was kind of bland. I also had a bite of my boyfriends Cheeseburger Poboy and it wasn't anything special.(he agreed.) Again, the meat could've used some more seasoning. The Artichoke Balls are a different story because they were AMAZING!!! Out of everything we ordered that's the only thing I would order from there again. I wish I would've just ordered 2 orders of those. The staff seemed really nice and the rest of the stuff on the menu looked good. I don't know, maybe we just tried the wrong stuff or maybe they were having an off day but regardless try the Artichoke Balls you won't be disappointed with those.

Really good bread and solidly made ingredients. May not be the highest example of a Po' Boy, but still a damn good one. Recommend getting an ice cold Barqs root beer in the bottle.

I just started getting sandwiches from this place and I don't know why I waited so long. So far I have tried the burger on French, roast beef and veal cutlet sandwiches. And also the old Nola combination:ham and Swiss. Everything was fresh and tasty. Service has been efficient and friendly. I will definitely add this to my dining rotation.

Wow!! Fried shrimp was incredible!! And the sweet potato fries were awesome. Mac and cheese was also delicious but a little too greasy. What can I say?? I'll probably get it again anyway. Can't wait to head back!!

Strong fried shrimp po-boy, probably top 5 best in the city for me. The bread is toasted, which i prefer when eating it with shrimp (oddly enough, I don't like it toasted with roast beef...but I digress). I got the 6 inch fried shrimp (they also have grilled) with a side seafood gumbo. I asked for light rice and got it. The roux was excellent and they didn't skimp on the seafood. I'll get a bowl next time. Great friendly service, with you ordering and then sitting down. The place itself is small, so not the best for large groups. There were a total of nine tables (maybe) with two four tops. Parking was also kinda annoying, but I'll face those issues any day to get that shrimp po-boy again! Go get a fried shrimp po-boy, you will be glad you did!

Awesome! Get any of the Po' Boys, but my favorite is the half shrimp and half oyster. Fried pickles are superb and the gumbo is great!

Wasn't bad, wasn't great. It's was a decent poboy with low grade beef in a pre made patty but it was a lot of meat and for the price not bad. Better than New Orleans Hamburger & Poboy but not as good and any of the bars or other poboy places in a few blocks. The artichoke balls were great I must say I enjoyed them. Service - Good Taste - ok Value - fair Speed - Good

This place is not on west Napoleon by David dr in lafreniere park. Someone needs to fix the map. I was going to try it, but was unsure of the location and only had a fixed time for lunch.... 900 vets can be by the parish line or by CEC BY N.o. Hamburger by the post office and by Lisa dr.

Okay...seriously. How did I not know about this place? I've passed by 100x and never stopped in. Well, after hearing a rave review about the oysters on Tom Fitzmorris' radio show I decided to give it a try. Sammy's (no affiliation with the one on Elysian Fields) is on the 900 block of Vets across the street from Dorginacs. It's a small and cute place with super friendly service. I was pretty sure things were going well when we walked in, and we knew two people eating in this tiny joint. What are the chances?? The place was consistently busy with people eating in, and picking up orders. We ordered the seafood and the chicken andouille gumbo - both very good. For our entrees we ordered a couple of the seafood platters. All I can say is delicious! The oysters were large and plump, and the shrimp were amazing. For $11 and some change you get a full plate of food with two sides. Surprised no one has reviewed this yet - go check it out. They have daily specials (my friend told me they were wonderful - but they run out if you don't get there early.) So happy I found a new/old spot for great seafood!

Consistently delicious...the potato salad is one of kind. Catfish platter worth every penny. You won't be disappointed

We go here all the time for lunch. The food is consistently good. I especially like the chicken andouille gumbo. It comes with just the right amount of white rice and a generous piece of toasted buttered french bread. The place is really small, so if you go during peak times you might have difficulty getting an open table. I opted to try the lunch special one day and was a little disappointed that they used instant mashed potatoes on the salisbury steak special. I am not a fan of instant mashed potatoes. The chicken club wrap is delicious! Their honey mustard is house made. They are a bit pricey for lunch though. $10.50 + tax for a wrap and an iced tea. Add a cup of gumbo and you're up to $15.00 - yikes! I really wish they offered half sandwich/half wrap and a side as a combo option. *REVISION* It saddens me to have to update my original review. I've actually downgraded from 4-stars to 3-stars. I have been coming to Sammy's for the past 7 months or so. I have recommended the place to so many people and have turned many of my coworkers on to the place. We eat there no less than once a week, sometimes twice a week. And they certainly are not cheap! We invited a new coworker to lunch with us and suggested the chicken club wrap. It comes with their homemade honey mustard sauce mixed in as well as some on the side. Well, the extra side did not come with my coworkers wrap, so we asked for one only to be told it would be 44¢. Then once we told the worker it did not come with the order, she was not charged. The whole thing just rubbed me the wrong way. I have spent a substantial amount of money there and referred quite a bit of business to them. You'd think we'd be recognized as "regulars". The same staff is there each time generally. I completely understand the need to charge for extra sauces, but give me a break. Is it really worth it to lose good customers? Very disappointed in Sammy's and considering not going back. Even though it is just one employee who tends to come across as uncaring. Most of the other employees are friendly and one does recognize that we go often.

Ordered shrimp platter and bowl of seafood gumbo. Both dishes were excellent. The baked mac is unique and great taste.

Great menu, outstanding quality, and personally one of my favorite places to go for an oyster po' boy.

I absolutely love Sammy's and my only wish is that they would deliver to my house.

We eat here all the time. Love the parmesan and poboys. Roast beef, however, lacks seasoning. kind of bland tasting. Today I decided to order grilled chicken platter. The menu says, two grilled, seasoned chicken breasts. I was very disappointed. The dish had two small pieces of thinly pounded chicken breasts. I think the menu should say this. It leads you to think you are getting two whole chicken breasts, not pigeon breasts.

Food is very good! Restaurant is kinda small but the food is very good! Definitely get the loaded cheese fries, meatballs and spaghetti, wraps or salads, and poboys! Great little place on Vets!
