Wow. This really good restaurant is in the perfect location. Okay, so you know there's only so much crap food you can eat at the mall... Well Ohana isn't at the mall, but it's super close by. And it's the opposite of crap food. I had broccoli with tofu in garlic sauce. Vegan paradise in Metairie. Who knew? The portion was generous, the price fantastic, and my dish wasn't on the menu, the server had them make it for me with no problems. For only 10 Bucks!!! For all you meat mouths out there... My friend had the curry chicken lunch special. It came with soup and fried rice. She was very happy and was like "we are definitely coming back". The service was out of this world. Quick, friendly, helpful, and attentive. Go shopping and then follow it up with food from Ohana. You'll be happy you did. Lastly, not to name names, but the food, price, and service beat the heck out of a certain Chinese place on Carrollton Avenue. You should be filled with "Happiness" if you try this place.

I visited this restaurant for its grand opening and wasn't disappointed one bit. It's clear that everyone at Ohana really values the customer experience. Not only were the dishes fantastic (try the Spicy Mango Chicken), but our servers were attentive and friendly and the atmosphere within the restaurant is right on par with the direction that the Fat City community in which it is located is going for. We'll definitely be back!!

We came here the first week it was open. Really nice modern decor and good service. I like the different twists on the appetizers list, it's refreshing to see something new besides your typical seaweed salad and edamame, which they have also. The sashimi pizza was good but after awhile the bread got soggy. It's a good portion. The chicken lettuce wrap was good as well but then again it's a very simple dish. The entrees we ordered were the Szechuan chicken and tropical roll. The chicken was very good but I think at $15 that's a lot for chicken and white rice. The roll was the same price, pretty decent size, not too small not big. The fish was really fresh. I'd suggest they change up their menu prices because some things are just aren't worth that much. In other words they offer a happy hour on the week days from 3-6 I believe. That's definitely worth popping in for. Half off certain small rolls and nigiri. Most places that have happy hours use old fish since the price is less but their fish is still just as good as the fish on the $15-$18 rolls. If they keep it up I'll be coming here every week or so. It's nice to have a good sushi place right down the street!

Love this place. One of our favorite for a quick sushi fix. Love the Hawaiian roll with the coconut shrimp and mango. Always great service.

The owner and her staff always welcomes us like family every time we visit. They truly exemplify their name of Ohana!

Mixed sushi pizza was great as well as the Hawaii roll. Less options of fully cooked rolls, but good vegetarian options

Love it!!! All the food that was ordered was so good! No problem with the staff and the place is so pretty and modern like the name! It's really lovely to have a large dinner party, girls dinner out, and for the gentlemen there is few TVs and a stocked bar.

Grilled mushroom appetizer was wonderful. Hot and sexy roll tasted okay but entirely overpriced! Was not any larger than a standard roll with very little ingredients for 16.00?! I hope management is reading this because if they don't adjust that pricing I don't think they will make it. Service was great and the drinks were strong.

Excellent service and great vegetarian friendly rolls. I was hesitant about buying the sweet potato roll at first but it was an amazing and refreshing new taste in sushi. Being a vegetarian, options are quite limited, so it's always nice to have new good options aside from the frequent vegetable and avocado rolls I usually order.

Sashimi pizza is the star dish at this place. So good and refreshing. Presentation of the food is better than some sushi places I've been to. Ohana Dream Roll is also a must. Great service and very clean and modern place.

The mix pizza is good. The beef teriyaki bento box is also great, the beef is tender. Love the fresh wasabi.

I used to live in the Fat City neighborhood and watched them transform what was burnt out convienence store into their now swanky location. The main staff is very friendly and always aim to please. The food is incredibly plated. In the 4-5 times I've gone, I've never had a meal that I felt looked "average." The food is absolutely delicious as well. I've only had one meal that I didn't enjoy, and it was because I didn't care for the taste of it, not because it was bad. I recommend anything teriyaki, you won't be disappointed.

This place had some pretty awesome sushi and miso soup (we had the California roll and tuna avocado roll). I would probably rate the actual food a four, but we came during happy hour and you absolutely can't beat the prices for the sushi. Good stuff for a good price!! Also tried the cherry blossom margarita and it was good! Try it out

Love Love Love!!!! The menu has an entire section for vegetarian/vegan options (I'm in love), the atmosphere is awesome, the sushi is delicious, and the prices are reasonable.

Went for the first time this afternoon. Excellent! Three of us had gyoza (handmade with a great sauce), triple sashimi (melt in your mouth), miso soup (best according to our daughter), dynamite roll (fresh and again melt in your mouth-full pieces of fish not ground up), and sweet heart roll (loved it). Best sushi we have had in New Orleans.

Delicious food and great open atmosphere. Couldn't ask for much more in Fat City. Food is pretty reasonably priced as well. Definitely check it out if you like fusion cuisine!!

My husband and I had been going to Sake Cafe on Vets, but they had started treating us horribly so we decided to try a different place. I'm so glad we did!! This place is cheap and the food is even better than Sake. This is our new place.

Hot pot was pretty good. We had the hot and spicy broth with rib eye and seafood combo. The soba noodles are extra but really good. For 18.99 you get the ribeye and a tray of veggies and udon. Not bad. And buy one get one for 99 beer and hot sake!

  • Ali C.

Not impressive at all. A lot of sushi was deep fried and seaweed salad was store bought. Tea was served with sugar which says it all. Disappointing.

I stopped here with a friend on the way back BR and after eating here, I'm glad we did. This place seems relatively new. The place looks very modern and clean. It definitely has a nice ambiance to it. The staff was very friendly and the service was prompt. One of the most impressive things about Ohana was the sushi plating. It was impressive to say the least. As for the food it was excellent. This is a great place to bring a vegetarian as they have vegetarian rolls and some vegetarian items on the menu. If you find yourself in Metarie and want some sushi, I don't think you could go wrong by giving this place a try.

This place was pretty empty upon arriving but that could be due to the inclement weather that's been torrential and rainy all day. We were greeted by staff and the sushi chef which is a good way to start our first time coming here. The decor of the place was nice, very modern and has big flat screen to watch the news or whatever sports game. So far so good. Food: so I've been reading from my fellow yelpers that the sushi pizza is a must try so we most def ordered that along with the duck fried eggrolls for starters. we really liked the sushi pizza. it's crispy and flavorful with pieces of mango that gives you a refreshing taste to the salmon. btw, you can do either tuna or salmon or both! my love picked the salmon which was perfect bc salmon and mango pair well together. they drizzle it with a sauce so it's not just straight up raw fish on top of a crispy, circular "pizza." for the entree, my bf picked beef pad Thai and a sushi roll which I've forgotten what the name of it is however I've got pics so that should help. haha! i liked the pad Thai, the roll was nothing too special to me and it's prob bc my partner refuse to eat anything with fried shrimp inside so we were limited, I feel, with choosing rolls. The manager and the server came and checked on us and made sure we were okay, so service was spot on. The server was really sweet, too. I didn't have any issues when dining in here. i wish I were able to try different rolls other than the usual bc what we had didn't wow me but it's quite alright. we enjoyed our stay.

Not sure why this place was empty while we were there from 5-6:30pm but we were the only table there. First time here. Was originally going to go to Kanno but they were closed and we happen to drive by Ohana and glad we did. The sushi was oh so delicious and fish was fresh. Our server jenny was sweet and attentive. Wasn't overbearing. They had wine, beer, and sake buy one get 2nd for 99 cent. And if you spend $55 of more you get $10 off your tab. We'll be back to try out the sushi pizza!!

Nothing but great things to say about this place so far. Although I've only been once so far, we tried a few different things from the menu and I was very pleased. We had the egg rolls, squid steak, and seafood curry. Finding a great sushi restaurant in Metairie is nothing unique, but finding a great sushi restaurant that also serves amazing curry certainly is! I'm looking forward to going back and trying out more of their expansive menu options. By the way, the fried banana dessert is certainly worth the extra stomach room :-)

Pork dumplings, crispy duck rolls, chicken lettuce wraps, hibachi fried rice with chicken all VERY fresh and delicious. First time here based on other Yelpers and we'll be back.

"A man should never be ashamed to own that he has been in the wrong, which is but saying... that he is wiser today than yesterday." Jonathan Swift And nothing in my life symbolizes that quote more than Ohana right now. Being the type of person who always tries everything at least twice, I tried Ohana again. And had some of the best service in my life. The restaurant is still beautiful; rolls still fresh. The difference is that my tastes have completely changed. As a meat eater/omnivore, my experience with Ohana still stands. There's lots of restaurants that make great Rock & Rolls and Dragon Rolls. Cheaper and bigger. However, as a new vegetarian, I'm now realizing how difficult it is to find good sushi restaurants in New Orleans. Whose vegetarian sushi menu doesn't consist of just the vegetable roll. Luckily for Ohana, they've got a pretty big selection: 6 to be exact. And all the rolls are good and filled with avocado creaminess. They took pride in experimenting with the flavors and textures to ensure that you're not bored eating their rolls. Their avocado and peanut roll has become one of my favorites. As well as their full-bodied miso soup. Best of all, their servers anticipate your needs. Drinks were refilled without question. And meat-filled sauces were left off. (Because my friend and I only ordered vegetarian stuff, the server left off the eel sauce which normally comes on the sweet potato rolls. For someone learning a new system of ordering at restaurants and all the different questions you have to ask, it's so REFRESHING to go to a place where the onus of dietary restrictions aren't just on the customer. It's also the responsibility of the restaurant to NOT list dishes which include meat products under Vegetarian Dishes.) Ohana understands this. And I'm eternally grateful. So thank you Ohana for showing me the errors of my ways. PS: I loved literally eating my words.

We tried this place for the first time tonight. We arrived and found good parking out front. We were greeted at the door and given our choice of a table or booth. The decor is modern and well done. The restaurant was extremely well done and clean. The menu was nice and they had tons of selections. We ordered drinks and they kept the refills flowing through out the meal. We started with a clear soup and noodle salad. Both were excellent and the presentation was great. We next had a sashimi mix pizza. It was AMAZING and so much fun. We ordered a Dancing Roll, Dynamite Roll, Crunchy Roll and Rainbow Roll. All the rolls came with great presentation and they tasted perfect. We ordered the Rainbow Roll with crabmeat instead of a crab stick. They got that wrong and it took a few minutes to correct. The server apologized multiple times. This place came very close to give starts. After a few return visits I may bump it up. If you love sushi it is worth the try. The price reflects the presentation, service, quality and ingredients.

I would drop from 4 stars that I gave in my previous review to 2 stars after my recent dining experience but I feel bad for them so I'll leave it at three and call it a 2 1/2 star restaurant. We went for lunch yesterday. I bragged about how good it was the first time when I went after they first opened. We were there for lunch at 12:30 and were the only customers. Not a good sign for the health of a business... We were in a hurry and the waitress was quick so that is a bonus. We both tasted our miso soups and had to add soy sauce because they were flavorless. She got the lunch roll combo. Something with spicy tuna and crunchy in one roll and I cannot remember the other roll but she didn't like either. Not only did they not look appealing but I tasted the spicy tuna and it was not good. I got the sashimi lunch and it came with 3 pieces of fatty tuna, 3 pieces of salmon and 3 pieces of escolar. The tuna and salmon didn't look very appealing and tasted like they were at the end of their shelf life. The presentation was still very nice in the white bowls with crushed .ice and a light ball underneath and all sorts of decorations around the sushi. The actual restaurant is really nicely done and it is apparent that they spent a lot of money on the build out. Sadly, it doesn't appear that they are doing too well if we were the only customers during prime lunch hour during the week... There are two other sushi restaurants right across the street. The highly touted Kanno and some new place that I don't remember the name. They are going to need to step up their game if they are going to survive with such stiff competition.

There's nothing "ohana" about this place. I don't think they know what Ohana means. Well, at least they spent $$$ on decorating the place since the food and service was lacking. The gyoyza was small. The miso soup lacked flavor. The rice in the sushi wasn't the best and definitely not sushi rice. The service was horrible. I asked for a Sapporo and she looked confused. We ordered the sushi combo for two that included "chef's special" but no one could tell us what that is. There are several chef's special listed in the menu but the combo comes with the cheapest one. We really wanted to try the dessert but didn't want to take the chance.

first off, ohana has toro. FINALLY somewhere in the area has the gusto to carry toro. and it was great. i was not too impressed with the yellowtail though. i feel like i got the end of a piece. the waitress was very, how should i say, blunt??? she did not enter my order correctly, so i didn't get exactly but i wanted - and i would have said something but i just really didn't give a shit enough to send it back. would have been more effort than i felt like putting forth. ohana is near my work so i'll give it another shot; however, i might take a highlighter to make sure i get what i order.

Love this place. Always friendly staff. I enjoy sitting at the bar for lunch. I like how you can have your rolls made with brown rice. I didn't care for the edamame. I LOVE the Tom yum soup. It's spicy and hot and fresh every time. Definitely a place I would Recommend.

Mixed Sashimi Pizza (12$). Crafted dish that was mindlessly thrown together and not cared about. I would've enjoyed something drenched in less sauce. Pretty heavy appetizer and a decent amount of sashimi. Pizza needed some type of kick, maybe less eel and a dot of siracha on each slice? Fresh Salmon Sashimi (12$). Essentially, I paid more for the same quality and quantity I could've gotten anywhere on the Westbank. This disappoints me. Tropical Roll (15$) - yellowtail jalapeño wrapped around spicy tuna and avocado with crunchy. They do a great job at making this roll sound a little extra fancy but it's puny and overpriced. Sunkist Roll (14$) - spicy snowcrab, avocado, wrapped with salmon and shrimp. Special sauce is what I would call a sweet and sour sauce. Another item I wish I passed on. The spicy "kani" was not spicy at all. Not even a tongue tickler! First and foremost, I am always happy to pay a premium for quality ingredients. However, I left very disappointed! I can find the same quality dishes anywhere in the Westbank for a fraction of the price. I feel like a sushi snob but as far as modern goes.. I don't feel as if any of the ingredients are unique or different. I'm rating this restaurant two stars mainly because the quality of the food does not match the price! If you want to charge me 15$ for a roll please make it worth while. Use fresher ingredients! I hate to say this but there's Kanno, across the street, that is an epic sushi restaurant. Using unique quality ingredients (EX: lump crab meat) for the same price.

My second trip to Ohana was less amazing so I will have to bump my review down. The hawiian roll is outstanding. Coconut shrimp with cream cheese and mango. I ventured off the sushi menu and ordered the szechuan chicken. I hated it, so much that I couldnt eat it. The bite sized chicken were rubbery and the coating was grainy. The chicken lacked flavor. All I could taste was a burnt taste in the background. The "vegetables" is minimal minced bell pepper. Luckily, my boyfriend is a simple eater and sweet enough to give me his dish to eat. Pineapple fried rice with shrimp was tasty. Thai style fried rice with cashews and rasins in it. Not great but good.

I just moved to the area, and had high hopes of Ohana based on Yelp reviews. Everything from the absent minded waitress to the quality of the fish was a huge disappointment. We ordered 7 rolls, edamame and the tuna tartare appetizer. The appetizers were okay, at best. Of the 7 rolls we ordered 2 decent - one was a tempura shrimp roll and the other was cucumber and avocado roll. The 5 that were raw fish based were DISGUSTING, not fresh, the scallop roll we ordered was grey in appearance. We will not be returning to Ohana. I have eaten lots of sushi all over the country and this was for sure in the bottom 2 places I've had sushi.

Coming from Hawaii I was so skeptical about trying sushi here in NOLA, so after 7 months of living here I finally decided to go for it. With all these options I did not know where to go, my first choice was closed, so I went with a place that was new so I could make a fair opinion not clouded by others. And of course I pick a place with a Hawaiian name, " Ohana". I must definitely say that this was a great experience and a nice lunch. Ohana is a fusion of mostly Japanese and Chinese with other Asian hints here and there. I mainly wanted sushi when coming here so I ordered 3 different rolls. I got the Dancing Roll, the Ohana Dream, and Sunkist. They were all very delicious, but I think the Ohana Dream was my favorite because of the Unagi. Literally anything with Unagi is going to be amazing to me. Each plate had the right amount of pieces and the presentation was nice as well. For appetizers I ordered the pork dumplings and a small hot/sour soup. These were also very delicious! The decor is modern, simple, and very very clean. It seems to be a bit classier than other restaurants out there, so you should probably dress pretty nice when coming. Prices are reasonable, with your bill going to be about $20 - $30 a person if you order a nice amount. They do have awesome lunch specials and bento boxesfor about $10 a person. I will definitely have to come back again and try one of those! The service is friendly, though my waitress had a little language barrier since she could not figure out if I wanted "Asahi" or "Sake", but she got it in the end. My only little issue was that since we sat on a table, all of the food we ordered did not exactly fit on it. The plates they use are really large and if you order more than 4 things you will probably run into space issues, so maybe a booth would be better. Other than that, Ohana is a great new place to try. Come for a nice dinner date or grab a lunch. Thumbs Up!

I intentionally tried to eat Kanno, but it was closed on this Sunday I went. So.. I decided to give Ohana a try. I had the mixed sashimi pizza, salmon avocado salad, chicken lettuce wrap, and 2 simple rolls: eel roll and spicy mango shrimp roll. I'm not impressed by anything I ordered other than the mixed sashimi pizza. I felt like everything I ordered was pricey for the amount I got, except the sashimi pizza again. I go to a good bit of sushi restaurants and for the price I pay, I'm usually offered a great portion. And if not portion, a great satisfaction to my taste. I can't get over how small the sushi rolls are. Honestly, I felt cheated. Everything probably would have been better if the portions were bigger or if the menu was less pricy.

This place is AWESOME and I don't see how it wasn't busier when we went! There were four of us and we shared a bunch of appetizers and sushi plus we all had entrees (yeah, we pigged out!) and everything was delicious and fresh. Service was fast & friendly and the inside is modern & clean!

This is our weekly sushi lunch place. We have come here at least once per week for there happy hour sushi. (3-6pm) mon-fri. It's very affordable and the service is always good and friendly. Jenny is our favorite server. I would recommend this place for lunch any day. We haven't tried the main menu or any of the fancy rolls but the quality of what we eat is always great so is imagine it's great all around. Stop by and give this place a try.

Good sushi in Metairie. If you have a reason to be out in this area and are hungry, come here for a good quality meal. I believe that if you sit at the sushi bar you get free salad and soup, which is awesome! Solid sushi.

Service was excellent even when I showed up 30 minutes before closing time. I had 5 different rolls and they were excellent. Thunder roll I highly recommend if you are likes and like my meat cooked. The fried ice cream was forgettable but everything lead was fantastic!!

My go to sushi restaurant for lunch was closed and just when I was feeling defeated I saw this place across the road. It still had a grand opening side out front and it looked extremely new so I just decided to go in and try it out. I usually like going to sushi restaurants during lunch because it's such a better deal than going for dinner. The ambiance was a little too nauseatingly modern and "sushi hip" for me. Everything was in cold, dark colors and the place could have easily turned into a boring, uncultured night club or martini bar at night with little to no reference of a sushi restaurant. Even though it was a Monday, for peak lunch times hours it seemed odd that only me and one other person on a lap top at a table were the only ones in the restaurant. I sat at the bar and ordered the chef's choice of sushi for my lunch. It was a selection of sushi pieces from the chef along with a salad and miso soup. Everything came out really fast, which is great for lunch service but I found it too fast. Before I had even touched my soup and finished my salad plates of sushi were put in front of me from the sushi bar. I had to move everything around me to keep accepting the plates of sushi. I was first given a small dish of chopped fish in a vinegary sauce which I really liked and then a large plate of tuna maki and yellowtail nigiri. I simply stared at my large plate of sushi while I slurped my soup down in a hurry. The sushi was good and fresh, nothing spectacular which sums of my entire dining experience of this place as just okay.

Nice place in fat city. Very kind and attentive staff. Excellent international beer selection and cool tasty fusioned appetizers. Love love love the sushi pizza. Had the three roll special with soup and salad. Nice lunch deal. Looking forward to trying dinner here.

The service was impeccable! I ordered the Vietnamese Summer Roll and the Shrimp Pad Thai. My only complaint about the summer roll was that it wasn't tightly wrapped and it was also cut up which made it a touch difficult to eat. I think it should also be served with either a peanut sauce or hoison sauce. The pad thai however was super delicious! I would definitely go back again!

  • Dennis G.

Overall I'm not particularly impressed. The location itself is small although it is modern looking and clean. They didn't have my standard order, chirashi. Instead I got their roll combo special. Looking at the menu it looked like a good value. I chose spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and a Philadelphia roll as my three. Those spicy rolls weren't really spicy. Even worse, they were packed with tempura crunchies to pad it out. These rolls are typically made with leftover cuts to begin with and padding that out just feels cheap. While the lunch special was a good deal I doubt I'll be returning.
