I wonder if some of the other reviewers were actually in this place? Waiters? seated? Hmmmm I find everything here to be "good",nothing special, but good. Some things seem overpriced so check out any specials that they may be running. All in all while it feels like a fast food place it's actually a step up--somewhere between fast food and a sit down restaurant--but the "waiters" only deliver your food. Place your order at the counter and get your number. The ice "milk" is free of charge but never call it ice cream. It ain't.

Walked in and no one said anything to us we are from out of town so we didn't know the routine but finally after we stop someone we was took to order and sit down and we was handed a cups from a bartender that kept coughing and made me weary but we order I got a eggplant and crab is was very good I just wish service was a lit better

We were in need of some fast lunch that wasn't 'fast food' and we were driving by here, so we tried it out. I haven't eating at this place in eons. I fondly remember the 'French Market Salad Bar' from way back in the day...but it ain't there no more. They do have a nice variety of pre-made salads which were big enough to feed 2 people, but I wish they still had that salad bar...

If you like nice fresh fried seafood this is the place for you. Ample portions and very reasonably priced. I love this place when I feel like over indulging. The pictures that I am posting make the food look extra good. Trust me, these pictures do not do this food justice. It tastes even better than it looks if that's possible!

First meal of our mainland trip...husband and I figured we'd try a place local to New Orleans but still wanted a drive-thru. In fact, the drive-thru and the fries are the reasons for each of the two stars. Spent $50 on a Rajun Cajun burger, Thick-fried catfish platter, a kids' chicken tender meal, a kids' hamburger meal, and an order of Alligator Poppers. I would have to say this was a waste of money. The fish had an artificial lemon taste to the batter. My burger meat was dry and the burger itself had way too much bun. Oddly enough, thr flavor was inconsistent from one gator popper to the next. The hush puppies were good but pretty basic; tasted like a just a fried ball of cornbread. The fries were delicious...thick-cut and soft. Garlic butter came in a separate container so you could coat your fries in it if you want. The garlic in the butter wasn't too overpowering, which my husband really liked. Didn't try the kids' meal items but that kids' burger was nothing but meat on bread, FYI. Kids said if they had to choose, they wouldn't eat here again. Neither would we!!

I went to a job interview when i was about 16, a very informal one, with my sister (for a lack of a better term-long story) and we were both asked something that we didn't like about the food service industry and my sister very bluntly blurted, "the customers." I got the job, she did not. i worked there for like two weeks (I was 16 then remember)...anyway... I didn't go back for years and then have returned more often in the past couple of years (especially after the storm and they were open steadily). The food is pretty good overall. The gumbo, straightforward- not awesome but decent, the po'boys good, and the burgers good and quite sizable. Overall it's pretty decent and the only issue I have is that they no longer cut the roast beef po'boys in half so you have to wield this ginormous sandwich if you don't have access to a knife with your take out order. Not that big of a deal for a native New Orleanian who doesn't particularly mind gravy dripping down her arms but quite annoying for her Yankee dude or "uptight" mom that'd rather eat in a more civilized manner. I usually check it out once during any visit home as it's close to my folks' house in Metry. I don't think I've ever had anything bad here (even eons ago when I worked here it was good and I got to see the kitchen and the cooks... so that's saying something).

I've eaten here a lot over the years. The commercials really piqued my fancy and every single time I leave feeling the exact same way -- nothing to write home to mom about. If anything, this place has been where I'd go when I wanted something better than Mc D's or BK or Rally's and had no clue where else in the area to go. Decent burgers and cozy atmosphere. And that I think the food is overpriced for what you get. In short, there are other places that are better, but if you're in a pinch its doable.

Went here today. The food was FANTASTIC. I got the fried shrimp and is was perfect there is not a single thing I would change. It also came with garlic steak fries. The fried shrimp was perfectly breaded and the flavor was just wonderful. My boyfriend got the rajun cajun burger and onion rings. The onion rings were very lightly breaded and he seemed to like them a lot. The burger had all the spicy things that he loves. They do not mess around with portions here. I had so much shrimp, I have enough left over for a whole other meal. We could have probably gotten away with sharing a meal and having an appetizer to share. The waitstaff was very nice and took great care of us. I will be going back again soon.

Two words: Gravy.........BAR! GRAVY BAR. I would assume for topping whatever already delicious concoctions they have there. Po-boys are too obvious. French Fries of course are delicious with the gravy. Come on folks, get inventive. This place is great. It's not the best New Orleans Food, but it does have just about every dish you'd want under one roof. If you're with a group of people who can't decide what they want, go here because their menu is extensive. Also, Abita Amber on draft is really really really good here for some reason. Oh yeah. Do NOT even think about passing on the Onion Rings. These Onion Rings are SO SO good. The dipping sauce is also extremely delicious. Perhaps the best dish they have, and you know what, they have a bunch of good dishes.

Walked in and we were seated quickly. The waiter was very nice and gave us a few minutes to make our choices. The hamburger and fries were sooo delicious, so were the balls made of alligator. The sloppy roast beef sandwich was so so.. missing something but wasn't sure what.... Very generous portions.

We ate here a few days ago for the first time. As locals we never thought of it as an option because most good food is found our via word of mouth and I'd never heard this place mentioned, despite it being a local chain. I had the crab/eggplant stack and my wife had a burger. She hated the dry burger but I really enjoyed the stack. It was a little slice of heaven for someone like me who loves a fried green tomato, eggplant, and crab cake. I would've liked it better with an aeoli sauce instead of the crawfish on top, though. The reason we'll be back there doesn't have to do with the food, though. It's because the hostess/cashier Daphne was absolutely charming --- she was welcoming, friendly, helpful, and when I asked her what she liked on the menu, she gave me genuinely thoughtful responses... Give that girl a raise!

The fries and the hush puppies are good. If you want to have a meal that is greasier than an oil change and lube job on a vehicle, then this is your place. I have been here on several occasions. The burger is ok, as well as the seafood. The food smells as if the oil it was fried in needs to be changed, has been used too much and is burned. The main reason for the second star is the Zulu king cake during Mardi Gras. Very good. Oh my goodness good. It is definitely a must try!

  • Carole-Marie W.

YIKES! I ordered a cheeseburger from their drive-thru and and it was still VERY uncooked inside. I'm fine with a bit of pink in my burgers, however, this was just about everything below the initial layer. Not acceptable!

The service at the order counter is lacking in my opinion. You expect a little more when paying their prices. Mediocre at best. I was checked on by a dining room worker and offered a drink refill. They did a nice job renovating the place. I like that they have a nice selection of fresh brewed iced teas. Although you pay for it at $2.59 a drink. They do have free refills. I CAN'T STAND condiment squirt bottles on restaurant tables, by-the-way. I really wish they'd get rid of them. I also don't particularly care for a self serve burger dressing bar. Overall, the place was clean. I suggest that they get a menu board on the wall instead of making people read individual menus. Realizing that they change their menu items up often, LCD screens would look great and be able to be changed easily. The "free" soft serve ice cream cones are a nice touch, but I don't see the perceived value. The thin fried catfish is great. So are their fries. The French bread on the thin fried catfish platter wasn't buttered enough. $17 for lunch.

Food is great here. Overpriced in my opinion but it's worth it. Staff can be a bit strange. But over all I will be coming here often.

This specific location has declined in customer service the past few months. Cashier staff needs to be more efficient in taking people's orders. It should not take that long to order food from a simple menu.

Running some errands on Monday 3/23 decided to get a bite to eat. As stated it was Monday in New Orleans which is red beans and rice day. I have been to New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood company in the past. At that time I was not very impressed but I figured it would be easy and red beans are pretty simple to do. I placed my order around 4 for red beans and rice and an order of hush puppies. Sat at a table and displayed my order number. After I sat within 5 to 10 minutes others sat around me. One individual in front of me and 2 individuals to the left of me. At this time it looked like they were having a shift change on the floor. The new individual came to our tables and introduced herself. When she got to the single individual in front he asked to check on his order and it was brought out within 5 minutes red beans. The 2 individuals on the left also got there order red beans. This was now around 25 minutes after I sat. I gave them around 10 minutes then decided to get a refund and leave. Few things bugged me. Bad service first. Also when I was parking I saw the individual coming on shift getting out of a car coming to work. When that individual came to my table the apron she was wearing was dirty with food I assume from her last shift. Looks like it was not washed. Then it took the manager quite a while to figure how to refund my credit card. When he did he did not refund the tax that was charged. At that time I just wanted to get out. Then finally lack luster food from my past experiences. This all adds up to me never giving them another chance and telling everyone I know to stay far far away.

Excellent burgers, but my favorite is the seafood platter or shrimp po-boy. Overall an excellent place to eat.

Just landed in New Orleans and was looking for a quick bite for lunch. This was the perfect place to go to! We ordered The Seafood Platter, portion sizes were fair and more than enough for two people to dig in to. The Fried Oysters and Catfish were both delicious. Overall a great meal for a decent price. Will definitely return!

I like the food at NOHSC. It isn't ground breaking, but somethings you just want a hamburger. I live a stones throw away from their Uptown location and will not go there any more due to a myriad of bad experiences. This location is nothing like that one-- the service is good and the food is consistent, which are my primary complaints about the other location. They still do the weird order at the counter thing that irritates me, but I know to expect that. I don't know that I'd make a trip all the way out to Metairie to eat here, but it's definitely a contender if I'm hungry and in the general area.

I have been to the drive thru countless times but this was my 1st time actually dining in one of these places. The place is somewhat confusing. You go up to the counter to order, but the menus are in some little shelf 10 feet away. Then they give you a number, you go sit down and they bring you the food and check on you. Make up your mind! Is it fast food or is it a full service restaurant?!?!?! The kids ordered their kids meals and seemed rather satisfied. Although my oldest daughter had the fried shrimp meal and said they were a little too lemony. I've had their shrimp several times and it's always lemony but I like that. I order the Asian Fried shrimp platter. Apparently the cashier didn't hear me or was too pre-occupied with her blatter because during my order she let everyone know "Shoo! I gotsta go to da bat-room". She may be a crime fighter or had to pee. It wasn't clear. So I ended up with an Asian chicken salad. Not the kitchens fault it's what the caped crusading small bladdered cashier rang me up for. It was actually pretty good and I probably needed a salad more than a fried platter. The problem arises when you pay up front and there is no place to add a tip on the credit card receipt. I never have cash so I had to stiff the waiter. The fountain drink machine is accessable for anyone to just get up and get their own but the waiter did this for us once and brough us our food. I felt bad stiffing him but we ran out of their like a bat out of hell. Hahaha I made another bat joke. Oh yeah free soft serve ice cream makes everyone happy. It's actually a lot nicer inside than I expected too.

After seeing an ad for this restaurant in my hotel's in-room booklet, we decided to try it out. The photos alone were reason enough to stop by. Mounds of thin, fried fish fillets a top golden onion rings; fat, juicy oysters on the half shell, plump, succulent shrimp...it all seemed like a dream, but it was real. After ordering, I realized the place was crowded. Everything was smiling, digging into their food and the waitstaff swirled around us with equally idyllic faces, carrying gargantuan trays full of food. The garlic fries were hot, fresh and incredibly delicious. Dipped in buttery garlic goodness and sprinkled with a little parsley, I could have eaten basket after basket of these. The fried catfish, oysters and shrimp were all fresh, piled high and piping hot. Everything exceeded my expectations (which were non-existent). Even the salads were huge and chock-full of fresh lettuce, vegetables and drizzled lightly with dressing. While I did not try a hamburger, the lure of freshly fried seafood could not hold a candle (or a bubbling well of hot oil) to the plethora of good seafood.

I was craving the gumbo and really wanted a shrimp po boy but decided to go with the thin catfish instead. Excellent customer service which is important to me. Gumbo is good. I added a littl hot sauce because I do like it spicy.

I can't believe I've actually never eaten here until recently. I always pass this place on both St. Charles and Veteran's and have either ignored it or passed it off as a tourist trap. I came with a group of co-workers for lunch and we dined in. The dining room is strangely carpeted, which kind of weirds me out in fast food type restaurants. You order at the front just like a fast food joint and then get served tableside like an actual restaurant. Maybe I'm just unaccustomed to dining in these kinds of establishments, but I'm always confused as to whether I need to bus my own table, get my own utensils, or listen for my food order to receive it. The burgers are creative while still being pretty cheap. They're nothing spectacular, just a step up from fast food burgers, but still good if you're looking for a cheap, quick burger. I ordered the Jamaican burger and it came with a mango chutney and pepper jack cheese. The mango chutney was a little bland and probably just came from a mass produced jar. All the burgers are served with big steak fries that are slathered in a pretty addictive garlic butter that probably helped me meet my trans fat quota for the week. If you're craving a fast burger I would suggest using the drive through to avoid the awkwardness of the place and you'll end up with a better burger than the average fast food restaurant for probably the same price.

The local chain that was a mom and pop operation that specialized in the overstuffed shrimp poboy has morphed into just another chain serving overpriced seafood and dull hamburgers. The new owners have jazzed up the menu while jazzing up the price. There are plenty of other places to find much better food for the amount you will spend here. The "famous" thin fried catfish is a ripoff in more ways than one. Cutting one large catfish filet into two or three was an idea ripped off from Middendorfs. The idea of thin fried catfish is a ripoff because they are charging you full price for one catfish filet that they slice two or three times depending on the size not to mention most of what you taste is the cornmeal breading. If you in Metairie which I hope your not, this might be a spot for you but if your in Orleans proper, don't waste your time nor your money.

I am a huge fan of NHS Co. I love the garlic butter on the fries and have a particular interest in their spicy burgers. They also have some really good pasta and seafood dishes... the fried oysters are delicious and typically well fried. BOTTOM LINE: Great place for a burger.

Really good food with allot to choose from with that good old New Orleans Flare. After driving around with da Wife trying to figure out what we wanted to eat, we seen the sign and it had Crispy thin Catfish. We decided to eat here, glad we did because everything was great, only thing that sucked with the broken ATM but i will get to that. When we arrived we noticed a bunch of older lady's having some kind of party or meeting, My wife and i ordered the Seafood platter to split, with BBQ Shrimp one hander and a grilled chicken sandwich and some onion rings. Yes i know that's allot but i wanted enough for leftovers for work the next day. The onion rings came out first and were awesome, very crisp, Thin cut and lots of them. They tasted like they were cooked in fresh oil so no hint to other foods, and the sauce they came with went very well with them. Not long after the rest of our food arrived and the whole table was full. We started on the seafood platter, the crispy catfish was great, good flavor with lots of crispy goodness. The shrimp were good, they only had 2 small hush puppies, there were typically good but could have had a couple more. The Crab patty was missing something, it was ok and fell apart. It had good flavor but must have missed an ingredient to bind it. I then moved to the shrimp one hander, and then i realized why they called it a one hander. Everyone that has ever eaten a shrimp poboy knows you need to hold with two hands, one to hold together to keep the shrimp from falling out and the other to guide to your mouth. They took a french bread, bored out a hole, then rammed aweseome bbq shrimp and some other goodies and everything held together so you could eat with one hand. Then we moved over to the grilled chicken samich with bacon, it was pretty damn good, I know its hard to mess up grilled chicken but they did good and bacon made it even better. We were so stuff we had to get 2 containers to bring my future lunch home. It felt like it weighed 5 lbs when we picked everything up to leave. I really hate when restaurants make you pay before you eat, because even if they messed up or give you shitty food you already paid them. Plus they had no option to tip, i hate tipping before i eat, feels like its a service charge more then a grateful reward for great service. We didn't even have that option, I seen they had an ATM but it was out of service. I thought they had a clown cashier so i asked the her if i could run my card on something so i could get cash to tip the server because i only had $2 on me. She seemed to care less and flat out told me no, So she wasn't a clown she just didn't have a mirror while doing her makeup. She gives you that "WTF was she thinking" when looking at her. But back to the point, i asked if there was another local ATM she said "Yea a Bank and pointed" i was kinda annoyed after i just spent $55 on my meal and she was no longer helpful. So overall we had a good time, with good food, half the staff was nice and helpful, but the Goofy looking clowns they had running the register was not. I would go back next time i am in the area

This place is not bad for what it is. Yes, it's a chain. Yes, it has schmaltzy decorations. Yes, there are like a million places in NOLA to get more authentic po'boys. BUT... I ordered the Oyster Heaven po'boy with fried oysters, blue cheese, and bacon (among other unusual po'boy toppings) and it was really good. I also liked the potato wedges that came drenched in herb butter. I would probably like anything drenched in herb butter. I'm not telling you to go here. I'm just saying you could do worse.

This is a great place to take the kids or a group where everyone can get something they like. They have a really surprising variety of delicious, filling salads, and a smattering of local options, as well as burgers and poor boys. I love the drink bar. It's pretty nerdy, but I get so excited to see several varieties of flavored teas and am just sort of awed by the choice. I love that you order your food at the counter, take a seat, place your number on the table, and they deliver the food to you. The dining room is nice and not too fast-foody, and it feels much more like a traditional "sit down restaurant." Maybe the biggest plus? Soft serve ice cream cones for dessert!!! As much as you can eat! YAAAAAY!

We had everything from hamburgers to fish to veg burgers and all was great. Didn't care much for the boudin ball or aligator but it was a hamburger joint and that is what makes them. Burger was big and cooked perfectly. Will go back. Decent price.

With a name like "Hamburger Company" I can't help but think of all the other huge corporate, processed, mass produced, uncreative, tasteless, food monsters. Eating here, my thinking was justified. From the large, action-colored, laminated menus to the pathetic choice of alcoholic beverages, there was nothing special about this place whatsoever. I got the raved about thin fried catfish but found it over breaded & not crispy at all. The bread it came with was hard and had a few bright greasy dots on it that smelled like fake butter. My greatest disappointment however, were the hush puppies. How I adore hush puppies as you can rarely get them wrong. So even if my seafood is sub par, I take small pleasure in the crispy, spicy, cornbread balls of goodness. But these fell so short of good they were just "goo." As in raw in the middle. Booo. My husband had the hickory burger which was a decent patty in itself but the amount of sweet, syrupy, bland BBQ sauce slathered everywhere, it was hard to tell. The toppings are up at the minimal effort, slapdash, bar. And unless you like your fries dripping garlic butter all over your plate & yourself & sogging up everything, get the salve on the side. We left our meals half finished with bloated bellies, burning hearts, & sad tastebuds.

Its halfway between fast food and full blown sit down restaurant. You order at the front and your food is taken to your table. The food is good. Its standard NOLA fare, no frills, and its fairly quick. The fries are wedge cut and garlic flavored. The only downside is I think its priced higher than it really should be, as for what it is there is quite a bit of competition in the niche they target that offer better food for an equivalent price. It is consistent and that is a plus.

    (3)
  • Didi D.

It's one of those places where you pay for your food first then sit. It's very relaxed in there, there are two big flat screen tv's (it's usually football games on) it's a large room, lots of seats... And the food is really yummy. They have hands down the best and biggest cheeseburgers. I always get ice creams after... I just have lots of fun there

Hadnt been here in years. Kids and I went for dinner. I liked the eggplant and crabmeat. One of my kids said his burger was dry and not enough fries. I had to agree about the fries. At the most he had 8 fries on his plate. Definitely not enoigh for a teenage boy. Only one ordee line open during what seemed to be a busy dinner time.

Hey, I have a great idea for a restaurant concept! Hear me out! Let's make an upscale burger and seafood place, with fair prices and an amazing salad bar. No! Wait. Let's not do that. Let's nix the salad bar.. and instead let's take a mediocre, boring menu that is basically shared by 50 other restaurants in the city, make people line up like cattle to order, charge just as much if not more for the same food you'd get in a traditional sit-down restaurant, but instead make you feel like you're in Burger King with some illusion of "table service" which is a joke. New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood Co used to be a decent place. When they got rid of the salad bar and turned it into an overpriced cattle call, it went downhill from there. Why am I paying so much money for such mediocre food and nonexistent service?

  • Sara P.

Loved this New Orleans semi-fast restaurant! Their Cajun potatoe wedges were to die for and their thin fried catfish was just the right amount of batter and fish. I will be making this a must stop when in NOLA, for a good cheap eat!

-------- FREE ICE CREAM! ---------- On the outside, the restaurant is all neon and very inviting. Once inside, you must order 1st at the front counter then sit and wait for you food. It's a lot like a buffet style restaurant, but without the buffet. While

We tried this place twice and we really wanted to like it, but just couldn't. The food was average, the service was decent, but it was just a little too greasy, a little over priced, and nothing on the menu you can't get anywhere else. Yes, it does have free ice cream.

This place was recommended by a local and I hesitantly went in. The outside looks like a fast food diner and I was looking for something nicer. I was very pleasantly surprised. The food here is excellent. I ordered a fried oyster poor boy with onion rings on the side. This was the best poor boy I have ever eaten. First of all, they make and bake their own bread. Add huge fried oysters, apple wood smoked bacon, blue cheese and chopped cabbage instead of lettuce (so as not to get soggy), and you have a culinary masterpiece. Spoke to the chef who happened to be an owner (every one of their restaurants has a chef on the premises) and I asked how he got the onion rings so perfect and he told me they cut and refrigerate the onions so the natural oils don't "sweat". This allows the flour coating to stick to thinly sliced rings....these are some of the best onion rings I have ever eaten. The atmosphere is like a diner. Lot's of locals and families. But you don't come here for the atmosphere, you come here for the food and the food is truly excellent. Whenever I am in NO, I go to this place. Gotta go, I am making myself hungry!

Eaten here a ton of times over the years. Food has always been good but I think they hit a really good spot a few years ago only to tweak the men-u again to loose some of those good items. This is a cross between fast food and quick casual. Most items seem pretty fresh and the semi-table service is always friendly and helpful. This place can get very busy around lunch and dinner especially with senior citizens. At one time they offered a salad bar but since upgrading the decor over the past few years they got rid of it and cut back on their "fixings" bar area where you can dress your own burger, sandwich, etc.

I was pleasantly surprised! We went here for a school fundraiser with no knowledge about the restaurant but with a general aversion to chain restaurant with this being New Orleans. It is an interesting setup. I guess they call it "fast casual". Restaurant type menu. Good quality fresh food. You order like a fast food place when you walk in. Draft and bottled beer and wine available. Free soft drink refills. Condiment bar. Free soft serve ice cream for dessert. The interior is decorated like a nice upscale restaurant and super clean. The food was very good for the price and type of restaurant. The Shrimp-Zilla poor boy was tasty, large, and fresh and came with good garlic wedge fries. The red beans and rice tasted home made and very flavorful. The meals are served by a wait staff on real plates and look to be prepared per order. The service is extremely friendly. We will return.

I don't usually eat at this location because it's off my beaten path. But after Katrina, I was helping some friends salvage what they could from their house in Lakeview. We drove out to this location and they were a godsend. Under those circumstances, I think it was the best food we ever ate.

This was my second time ordering from here and I've got to say that the crawfish pasta will have you HOOKED!! Okay, I really, really enjoyed the onion rings - they taste homemade!!! You can order catfish thin-fried or thick - I prefer less batter. The seasoning is normal, but the most important thing is that the seafood is FRESH!! Whenever, I'm in town, and want to find great food outside of the French Quarter I'll be eating here.
