Five stars as far as take out Chinese food goes. I ordered lo mien, general's chicken, egg rolls, and the house special mei fun with beef. All of it was very good, and VERY well priced. I ordered what seemed like a ton of food that fed six people with leftovers, all for under $40. BOTTOM LINE: Best option for takeout China food in the 70005 area.

This is a nice little whole in the wall place. I would not suggest it for a fancy date night, but it is a cozy little place. The menu is diverse and has very reasonably priced combination meals with pork fried rice and egg roll included. You can also choose from other items on the menu in a more a la carte option.

Being new to the New Orleans area, we are looking for different restaurants at a decent price. Exactly what I expected. Hot food, freshly cooked, and ready for pickup when I got there. Good Pricing for the New Orleans area also. Will be back again to try something different.

Cheap Chinese take out that is always hot and what you expect. We like to call in for pick up. We get some Egg Drop Soup, Crab Ragoons and Lo Mein.

Crabmeat Rangoon! Food is consistent every visit since we began getting take out from here 3 years ago. Only issue- the last few times they say food will be ready 10-15 minutes when ordering and Each time it was 25+ minutes(35 today)

As far as hole in the wall Chinese food goes. This place is the best. Quick service and great food. The Sweet and Sour chicken is my favorite. And the Pork fried rice us a must get. And you can't pass on the egg drop soup. Call ahead or place your order when you get there. Never waited more than ten minutes for my dinner.

I work next door at Fixit and eat Hot Wok on a daily basis. Same great menu as all of the other "Wok" restaurants.

CHEAP, GOOD & TASTY I had bookmarked this Chinese restaurant as one of ten preselected Metairie sites. I always over bookmark for restaurants knowing that I won't get to everyone one of them during my initial business trip. Bookmarking also provides time for me to rethink about my selections and provide an inventory of restaurants when I'm not in the mood to go too far out of my way especially when working late or when weather isn't cooperating. Clientele is primarily Occidentals and their photos speak volumes. So I was enticed with confidence to spend my sole allotment for Chinese food at Metairie this most busy Chinese take out. Except for the take out counter and room for two tables, this Hot Wok is all kitchen. Before I forget, there are other Hot Woks but none rated as high as the Metairie location. The menu is authentic occidental Chinese and would even do well in 808. Parking is no problem with ample side street parking plus a front parking lot. Its a late Tuesday afternoon and there's takeout orders one after another and the same for call in orders. Could have ordered to eat on site, but I could use more peace and quiet plus the time to set up my hotel room. Decided on #51 Singapore Mai Fun and Chef's Specialties S-3 Seafood Delight with lobster, king crab meat, jumbo shrimp sauteed with mixed veggies in a clear corn starch sauce. In less than 15 minutes I'm carrying out a bag of food heavier than my purse. LoL Getting back to the hotel post haste, we quickly opened up our booty to find our Singapore noodle was piping hot and plenty spicy to satisfy the "bang" needed to satisfy hot sauce hungry Louisianans. As for the seafood entree, I couldn't help but notice the many jumbo shrimps and the a real lobster. No soy sauce or yellow mustard needed. Both entrees plus a pint of rice for $20 plus change. Open till 10pm every day except for Friday and Saturday where they remain open till 11pm. We have a saying in Cantonese: "Cheap & good" is always a good deal. Not to forget "tasty and fresh" too ! A no brainer for Chinese food.

Subpar Chinese takeout. I recently moved here from Brooklyn and I really miss good Chinese food. This is not it.

When I first spotted Hot Wok, it reminded me of the type of Chinese take-out restaurants you would find in New York and automatically peaked my interest. After passing it quite a few times, I finally had the urge for wings and fried rice and went inside to get my American Chinese on. The place itself has no ambiance. It's just a hole-in-the-wall, average-looking take-out restaurant where you should never take a date to sit down and eat. Just as I had expected, the place was run by New York transplants who had taken ownership of the restaurant about a year ago. This is a pretty good place, and even ordering Buffalo Wings off of the "American food" section I was satisfied. It was obviously not the typical buffalo flavor but was good sized wings with a proportionate amount of sauce that had a nice flavor to it. I also ordered a pint of Pork Fried Rice. It could have easily been a tasteless, greasy, soggy mess but it was really great rice. It tasted fresh not microwaved. I went in also wanting to get an order of Fried Crab Stick but they no longer sell them so I settled with the Fried Crabmeat Cheese Wontons instead. They were just okay. I wish the wontons were a little crispier and that you could actually taste the crabmeat in the stuffing and not just cheese. Regardless, prices are really good and I enjoyed the rice, so I will be back again when I'm craving Chinese!

This is my go to place! As close to the taste of what my dad makes, not quite as good, but pretty good. If they delivered, it would be a five star for me. Food is consistent, filling, and tasty. Skip the egg roll, not made in house. Try the coconut shrimp and Hunan style dishes instead.

This is our go-to Chinese spot. It's close by and affordable. The menu is huge so you're bound to find something that you are in the mood for. The staff is always friendly and the service is efficient. I like the "diet" menu. It includes a perfect portion size and they put the sauce on the side so you can add as little as you'd like. Makes you feel a little healthier about take out. Best part is that we usually have leftovers for lunch the next day.

If a friend hadn't told me about this place, I would have kept driving past it for another decade without ever knowing it existed. The storefront and sign are very unassuming, and it's very easy to miss as it's set back from Veterans Memorial Blvd. Even though there are 1 or 2 small tables, this is a take out restaurant and I've only seen the employees seated there. This place is all about decent Chinses food, served very quickly and at a great price. The menu is pretty large although I've only sampled a few of the items. I can vouch for the all the egg foo young dishes, as well as the moo shoo pork and most of the chow meins. Had most of the soups too with no complaints. There are 27 "special combination plates" featuring entrees served with an egg roll and pork fried rice, all of which are priced under $7.50. What's even better is that the portions are so big, that you can almost share it with another person and get 2 meals out of it, especially if you purchase a soup on the side. There's even a "diet menu" consisting of 6 entrees servied with steamed white or steamed brown rice. I recommend phoning in your order, even though the response is always 10-15 minutes. However, every time I go to pick up food, my order is always ready. Only 1 time was my order not ready because they made the wrong egg foo young. As a courtesy, they made my correct order in less than 5 minutes and gave me the other egg foo young as lagniappe. (Not too shabby). I recommend not staring too hard into the kitchen, as it is very busy and you may see something you don't want to see (just kidding). If you want good food to go, with large quantities at a good price, look no further.

Small place for take-out with decent prices. I had mei fun with chicken, but the chicken was virtually non-existent, which left me a little disappointed. The noodles were good and so was the rice (white rice, how can you go wrong?), but the lack of chicken in a chicken dish was...meh.

Some of the best Chinese takeout I've ever had. General tso chicken & vegetable lo mein are awesome. Always fast service. Take out orders usually ready in under 10 minutes. They are somehow unable to understand that my fiancé doesn't like celery and bell peppers in her Kung pao chicken, but that's easily remedied.

I wanted to like this place more. It's quick, it's inexpensive, and it's reasonably close to Lakeview, making it not too much of a pain for me to get to. For those reasons, I've gone back a few times. The bright spot is the shrimp, which are a really nice size and are cooked perfectly. Note that this refers to the shrimp in the stir fry dishes in sauce, and not to the shrimp in the fried rice, which are small, as is to be expected. The biggest general problem I have with Hot Wok is that just about everything I've ordered tastes exactly the same. I've had shrimp & snow peas, beef & broccoli, Szechuan shrimp, chicken w/garlic sauce, Hunan shrimp, and hot & spicy chicken. The sauces in all these dishes taste the same and are fairly bland. Some of those dishes are supposed to be spicy, and they had no heat at all. The last four dishes I listed all had exactly the same vegetables. I ended up dumping soy sauce all over everything, trying to remember flavor. The biggest specific problems I have are: 1) The fried rice has no scrambled egg. That's my preference and it won't be a problem for everybody, but it bothered me. Incidentally, I agree with other reviewers that the pork fried rice is better than the shrimp fried rice. 2) The egg rolls taste like frozen egg rolls you'd find at the grocery store. 3) The crabmeat cheese wontons are pretty tragic. I mean, they're just bad. I'm swearing off Hot Wok for now, but there will probably come a night when I am dog tired after work and don't want to cook, and my desire for quick, cheap takeout will cause temporary memory loss and propel me toward that little strip mall on Vets. I guess nights like those are the reason places like this exist.

Wow this place is great, fast service, always hot & fresh food at a very good price. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. I usually get lemon chicken with chicken fried rice

This is another of our local go to take out Chinese places that we like a lot. They are a tiny location with only 2 tables for eating in. I recommend calling ahead and bringing it home. However, I have eaten in before and it's fine. They will give you plates to eat on if you ask. Everything is fresh made really quick. Recently, we placed our order while driving nearby and they had it ready within 10 minutes. We like the sesame chicken combination plate the best. The crab rangoons are good too. Everything we have tried so far has been good.

I'm sorry, but this place is awful. After reading all these good reviews I thought I will give this place a shot. Oh how I regretted it a soon as I saw the food. I order the beef and pepper and it was so bland. There was absolutely no flavor in this dish. I felt like they just stir fried the unflavored meat with cut up peppers with water and called it a day. It was just awful. Now on to the sesame chicken... this has to be the worse sesame chicken I ever taste. It was nothing but batter on the so call 'chicken'. I said that because I could barely taste any meat in this dish. The sauce was awful and running. I order the fried chicken wings as well; while this dish had flavor it was bad flavor. It just didn't taste right. I'm not sure if they had an off night or what since when we order we saw the cooks in the back cooking themselves up a meal. While we were waiting for our food 90% of the worker came in the front area and start eating... 10 minutes later our food came out. That just strange to me, but I guess it's the normal thing to do for them. I can honestly say I'm never coming back here.

Excellent place for good, quick and cheaper Chinese take out. You get a lot of food and it's worth the price. It's always quick and the employes are nice. I live in Lakeview and this is my 'go-to' Chinese take out place.

This place does take out only!! Good and CHEAP!! I love the fried wings here!! They use 4 whole chicken wings which have a hint of Asian spice and come with your choice of pork, chicken or shrimp fried rice for under $6. Combined with your favorite Chinese American dish and you can feed 2 adults for under $15 and have some left overs, too!! No, it isn't the best Chinese you have ever eaten, but it is good and fresh, made to order and in nice sized quantities. Call 'em before you leave the house, or work, and it is ready by the time you get there. p.s. I don't like their version of hot and sour soup at all!!

Hands down best fast Chinese food. Nothing was soggy once we got out takeout home. I also ordered chicken nuggets and fries for a picky eater & he was pleased how crispy everything was. I wish they delivered, glad I found them!

We consistently get good food from this small walk in shop. Great for anyone expecting decent take-out Chinese--nothing super authentic or out of this world, just plain good. The ladies that work the desk (and sometimes cook, too) are generally friendly and helpful. My favorite thing about this shop has to be that gladly switch up the combos for you (vegetable fried rice instead of pork, etc.). As a note, they do have cheese and crab "wontons" (what some other restaurants call rangoons). We've asked them to make some of the items spicier a few times (it says they can make it spicier on the menu), but have yet to really notice that they're spicy at all. Keep in mind that I love Sriracha hot sauce and dump it on almost anything in ridiculous amounts so some people might find the 'spicy' items on the menu are spicy, I just don't personally think so. Prices are great as well--makes for a perfect go to on a random weeknight!

Do you want Chinese food fast and cheap? How Wok is the place to go. It's become a standard fall back on nights when I don't feel like cooking. For under $10 I can get a dinner special which includes rice and an egg roll to go with my selection (I like the sesame chicken). Portions are generous, usually I eat about half of it and have a lunch to take to work the next day. Is it authentic Chinese? Not at all. But it's still delicious. Note: this place isn't a sit down restaurant although they do have a table or two if you really want to eat there. Hot Wok is designed to do take out.

Great reasonably priced Chinese food cooked in a REAL wok which affords superior flavor! Good-sized portions. Good prices. Huge menu. Fresly prepared food. Sure, it's a hole in the wall, mainly just for take-out, but that good enough for me. The parking's a bit cramped also, but worth the effort. Best things I've tried are chicken on a stick app, chicken lo mein, beef & broc, and mu shu. They take plastic too.

I discovered you one night while across the street at Blockbuster. Your little unassuming storefront called my name. I noticed you were tiny and more set up for To Go orders which was just fine with me. I perused your extensive menu and was quite pleased that you offered vegetarian and seafood selections. I chose the Vegetable Eggrolls and Mu Shu Vegetables. Awesome! Since then I've had your Szechuan Bean Curd, Vegetable Fried Rice and Lo Mein. Next time, ill try something with shrimp. Your not gourmet chinese food and I don't expect you to be, but you are very good. Your prices are amazing, so cheap, and you give so much. Your girls that work the counter are sweet and efficient, and your guys on the line in the open kitchen are fast! Your also consistent, and always get my order right. I love that if I call my order in, its ready within 10 to 15. Hot Wok, you Rock

This place is great to call your order in ahead for pickup. There are a few small tables, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone eating a them. It's inexpensive, the food is pretty darn good and the portions are very generous. (I usually make 2 meals out of it) You can get a combo plate of most of your favorite dishes with fried rice and an egg-roll for around $7-$9. It's not the absolute best ever, but if your looking for some good, quick, cheap Chinese to go, this is the spot.

Great Chinese food and portions for the price. I have had all the lo meins and I have enjoyed every single one of them. The brocoli and mongolian beef are also some of my favorites.

For quick Chinese TO GO (they don't have much space to eat there...it's more or a take out kinda place) this place I think is the best bet in Metairie. They give you a lot of food too...so much that it always seems to be two meals for me. I think this place is better than the House of Eggroll and it's maybe a mile or so up Vets. It's not like sitting down and being waited on like Five Happiness or China Doll but for good food, quickly and to carry out, I think this place is a great pick.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
