I love this place. Family owned and run, the mexican food here is the best on the westbank. The prices are especially good and there's many different combinations to pick from . The Chalupas are my favorite with the best guacamole you can find. The tamales are fantastic too and the queso is the white cheese. I get it every time i go there

This restaurant, is a family owned place. That means there is a high amount of pride and attention to details that makes the food consistently good. Also a nice side effect is that it is lightening FAST! I mean really really quick. There may not actually be 50 unique items, just different combos on the plate, so that must help with the speed. The cheese is of the fresco white type. MMMmmmm. The chili rellenos come with a ground meat or not, both fantastic. The tacos, traditional hard shell gringo type, is also very good. The prices are very reasonable too. The staff is friendly , the place is clean, though sometimes, kinda warm inside. Not sure if its AC problems or because there is so many windows? This is a safe place for a fast lunch too, if your in a hurry, you can be in and out and completely stuffed in 20 minutes. For a good example of the food, just spring for the El Mexicano plate. It pretty much has it all.

Meh, it wasnt bad but I've definetly had better. The margaritas were awful. Neon green powder tasting mix. Service was so slow. Menu is generic americanize mexican food. Tacos come with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. There's your first tip that its not remotely authentic. After searching the menu for taco options (which arent listed), we ordered al la cart. Shrimp, chicken, and steak on soft corn tortillas with pico and limes on the side. The steak was good. Flavorful, mosit, and not at all chewy. Better than some other mexican places I've been to. Chicken enchiladas verdes were tasty. The green sauce was thick and spicy. Put a little of that on your taco. Good to go. Dont go out of your way to go here.

Typical American version of Mexican food. Based on many of the reviews, I was expecting a lot more, but this is genuinely just the same average Mexican food you get at 99% of restaurants around here. Pros: Service was friendly, food came out fast. Cons: The margarita was so bad I had to send it back (it tasted like fake lime flavoring and high fructose corn syrup). They have no beer on tap, and were out of three of their bottled beers.

Had dinner with some family and friends tonight at this local family owned place. It was good times with good people!!! The place was having a fund raiser for a teacher who's house burned a couple of weeks ago. Was able to help a local teacher and family business and have good times with family and friends could not have spent a Tuesday night any better!!! Highly recommend!!! The food was great and the service was just as great. Good price on the food and they have 2 for 1 margaritas every Tuesday. I recommend the fajitas!!!

Super fast service, super friendly staff, and deeeeelicious food! It's family owned so there's always a familiar face when I go in! The guacamole salad is delicious as well as everything else I've ever had! Yummy tacos, good fajitas, the enchiladas are good, the chimichangas...the list goes on! It's literally right up the street from my house so I find myself here pretty frequently lol. Make sure you go on Tuesday night when the margaritas are 2 for 1! You won't regret it!

My daughter works at a business in that mall so we are there at least twice a month for lunch and then we make it once or twice a month for dinner. even before we were going on a regular basis, the servers knew us. i am pretty sure it's a family owned business. they close between lunch and dinner service. my daughter ALWAYS gets the spicy burrito with a side of sour cream. when she forgets to order the sour cream they know to just bring it. the cheese dip is my only complaint. it comes out very thin. After it cools it can be dipped with chips but it takes a while to cool. there is something about the white cheese they use in the sauce and in their entrees that is so good and different from other restaurants in the area. the salsa is excellent! i ordered a chicken, beef and cheese enchilada plate and they were equally good and not swimming in sauce so you can't recognize it. I would have preferred shredded beef but the ground meat was good and well-seasoned. I almost always order the plate (number 20something) with a taco, enchilada (cheese), tamale, rice and chili con carne which is served over the rice. If you just order a side of chili con carne in a bowl, it is great on the chips as a dip. the hot tamales were wonderful and presented beautifully in the corn husks. the churros are great but the sopapillas are more like cinnamon chips than the doughy ones most places serve. they are good, just not the "standard" kind. I highly recommend El Mexicano! of all the Mexican places to eat, this is my favorite.

After reading the good reviews, my husband and I decided to check this place out for lunch one day. The atmosphere was a little strange. You could tell the restaurant used to be a store of some kind before it was a restaurant and they didn't go thru too much trouble to give it the whole Mexican vibe. The cheese dip was delish but our salsa tasted like the tomatoes had soured. This was a bummer for me, as I looooove salsa. The meal was decent I guess. I liked how they had put some of the yummy cheese dip INSIDE the chimichanga. The service however was terrible. We only got a drink refill once and my husband usually requires 2-3 during a meal. It was like they just forgot about us. I swear we waited 15 minutes after they took our plates away to bring us the check, with nothing to drink I might add. I was about one minute away from just walking to the register myself to pay. Anyway, I think we'll try somewhere different before we would ever go back here again. We're used to the kind of service Carretas in Metairie or Don Jose's in Kenner provides. We'll keep looking for a West Bank Mexican joint.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
