Ever since my boyfriend introduced me to tacos (carne asada with cilantro, onions (raw or grilled), and lime) I've been looking all over the new orleans area for tacos that are similar to what I had eaten in the Rio Grande Valley (Mission, Tx). I prefer my tacos with flour tortillas, homemade of course. Taqueria Sanchez makes their own tortillas, at least it taste like it's not from the super market. So I had my bf tell me how to order 3 fajita tacos with cilantro and onions in spanish. Oh it was so exciting ordering it in spanish!!!! They got the order right! I ordered 4 tacos. Let me tell you, I think these are the BEST TACOS I HAD IN NEW ORLEANS. I went to El Gato Negro and it was good/ pricey, but Taqueria Sanchez was better and only $2.25 for a flour taco!!!! Can someone please contact the owner of taqueria sanchez and ask them if they can serve "Botanas," you will not be disappointed!!!! If you are into the TEX MEX stuff, this is NOT for you. I find the same people complaining about "authentic" foods on yelp. It's not tex mexyy enough for them... Any way you have to eat here with an unbiased view. This is the legit tacos you will get when you travel to Mexico or if you happen to visit the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, youll find lots of places like taqueria sanchez!!!! I will definitely be back and next time I'm taking my boyfriend so he can do the ordering!!!!

This may be the sketchiest taco stand around. They dont speak any english not even numbers so come prepared to use sign language or bring a bilingual friend. They were out of ceviche, my guess is that they only make it on certain days. We got chicken tacos and steak tacos. Requested avocado which they didnt have. $25 for 10 tacos. They are served with a green sauce and a red sauce. The green is much more spicy but flavorful. The steak was seasoned well and tender. The chicken was pretty bland. I ended up pouring on the green sauce. I was hoping to have a solid late night quick taco spot. This isnt it.

Hands down most authentic and best bang for your dollar mexican food on the westbank! And this coming from a white boy!

Stopped here for some quick take out this evening. I am a convinced fan now. Grabbed 2 of each taco except the tongue (never been a fan) and a Baleada. Stuffed now but already imagining what my next order is going to be. If you're passing by and hungry, give this place a chance.

I've eaten at a lot of taquerias..from the restaurants..to the little trailers/taco stands, and hole in the walls..from cali to texas..even in mexico. This joint was average. It's good, but it didn't have all the little side stuff like radishes, jalapeños, and carrots. I give it 3 stars.

There are two types of people in this world. The ones who look at a hole in the wall taco stand and think "ew gross, no way" and the ones who think "this looks amazing." If you're in the amazing camp, where you should be if you know good Latin food from Taco Bell, this is your joint. The food is more Honduran/Guatemalan than Mexican and delicious. Occasionally you can get menudo on Sunday, and lengua is a meat option which are both great signs of an authentic joint. The cilantro salsa verde is great too. My boyfriend is from Los Angeles and quite possibly the world's biggest taco snob, and he loves this place. Try: tacos if you're on the cheap, tortas if you're hungry.

This small taco stand is delicious. I have had several thing from there but I think the best are the burritos. The tortas are bread heavy and need more meat. Tacos are fantastic. They don't speak much English but I think you can manage pollo burrito.

Amazing tacos. Everything we've tried here is excellent! The prices are low too. A definite must if you're looking for authentic Hispanic food.

This walk up restaurant serves authentic Mexican food. Located half a block from Home Depot, this place gets a steady walk up business from the day laborers near the store. The menu is a bit confusing since I don't speak Spanish fluently, but I managed. Both times I went I ordered some type of soft taco/burrito thing. Both times were with chicken, unless polo means something else. The food is very good. My meals came with a side of salsa that was spicy and delicious. Don't be intimidated by the appearance of this place. The food is very good. You wont be disappointed.

Finally got a chance to try this stand after a month of living on the West Bank and pointing at it when we went by. Me: We HAVE to try this place! The GIrly: I KNOW..you say that EVERY time we go by, sheesh. Me: But what I'm trying to say is...We HAVE to try this place! The Girly: *Eye roll* So yeah...that's usually how it goes. Yesterday, after a morning spent trying to build a porch railing for our new house, the Girly actually asked if I'd like to stop there. Boy Would I!, I says. Good...and stop calling me boy. The girly wanted 3 beef tacos and that was it. She is used to the ho-hum tacos around the area so wasn't exactly thinking this would be a runaway. I ordered one Chicherone, one pork and one lingua. Total 13 bucks. Note: even though it's pretty much a food stand, their prices are about even with what you would pay at a restaurant. I think we found the most authentic and best tasting regular tacos around. I still think Taceaux Loceaux has the best taceaux, period, but for Authentic tacos, these were awesome. Both the green and red hot sauces were fantastic and a shot of lime juice set the entire thing off. So good. The girly ranked them up there with the holy grail of tacos for her...a little place in North Carolina called Papas and Beer. And that's saying something for her to like a place enough to put it on par with that place. Oh..and while it looked like they piled on the cilantro, it was mostly parsley and a nice mild cilantro. So even though it usually tastes like soap to me, these just tasted clean and fresh. We really can not wait to go back.

Tried 3 times to find this place. Have not succeeded and given up. UPDATE:: AH! Don't rely on the directions that yelp will give via the maps because it had me totally driving in circles! Finally found it and will definitely try it out tomorrow! I will update the review then! Totally went today and they are delicious. Price has changed to $2.50/taco but they were tasty. I ordered chicken pork and tongue. All delish!! Try them! It looks sketchy but they were pretty quick and tasty.

Stopped in to try the tacos after some beyond belief hype and it was just as advertised. I got the barbacoa tacos and they were absolutely the best tacos I've had in New Orleans. The beef was tender and flavorful absolutely perfect. Cant wait to go back and try more. Don't come here if your not used to real Mexican food if your used to americanized crap this is not the place for you.

This place is located in a small little snack stand of a structure and you can only order Mexican food to go at the walk up window. It has tiny little tacos just like the kind you get out of a real Mexican taco truck except they are less good than most I've ever had out of those trucks. I got the chicken tacos and they were way more dry and flavorless than most any other I've had. I think the tacos at Taqueria Guerrero are much better for this "authentic" style of Mexican taco. I've only had the tacos and usually the only time I'm in this area I'm heading to 9 Roses for some pho so given the choice between these tacos and pho I will go pho nearly every time. Pho sure!

This used to be my favorite burrito place until they over cooked my carne asada. Then I found La Conquistadora Restaurant just down the road. They cooked it properly. Same owners, better cook.

Taqueria Sanchez is definitely a hole in the wall. As another reviewer said however, a hole in the wall can equal feasting opportunity. "Dirty" Sanchez' looks like it hasn't been scrubbed down, ever... but that means years of accumulated flavors. ¡que sabor! The first time I went I was kind of shocked when the tab for 2 people was $25. They had recently whited-out all the prices on the menu so it was a known gamble, but it was a BOATLOAD of food. We were not disappointed, and muy delicioso! This is the closest I've found to a Texas or California style taco shop in NOLA and is a great addition. Just note that it's take out only unless you want to eat

It's like a snoball stand for mexican food but the tacos are fantastic. Worth eating in your car.

I ordered a chicken quesadilla because i had heard they were good from this small little taco stand in the Westbank. The wait was a little bit long but the quesadilla itself was quite good. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this place but if you're in the area I would stop by.

My boyfriend turned me onto this place, as I am a Taco Bell fan, and he said that this is a step up. He was right. I have only ever had the burrito, but it is HUGE and I can never finish the whole dang thing! Great prices, although it is in a sketchy area. I have and would never go by myself. My boyfriend has had pretty much everything on the menu and has said it is good. It's cheap, so it's worth trying. It's not restaurant quality Mexican, but it's better than the Bell.

After the storm, we got latin taco trucks. For real, with actual latin employees and customers. When Jefferson Parish misguidedly decided they were a menace somehow, Taqueria Sanchez bought a snowball stand. Voila. I'm not an expert on authentic mexican v. honduran v. tex-mex cuisine. I'm from Minnesota, right. But this has got to be the real deal from somewhere. The menu's in spanish, but you'll figure it out. Or guess, like I do. Everything's spiced and perfect. You pick your food - the tortas are a kind of sandwich on super soft bread, or there's tacos, and a list of other choices. Then you pick your meat. I usually pick the barbacoa, because I think I know what that means. But seriously, it's all good. There is no seating. It's a snowball stand. You can stand around and eat at the limited counter space, or do like everyone else and take it home. If they have it that day, get the melon drink.

Best tacos & burritos ever. This place is the real deal for mexican food. I order the same thing every single time. Their steak burritos are to die for. It's kind of hard for me to order since I don't speak spanish. I just keep my words simple so they understand what I want. I'm pretty picky so they actually do it just the way I describe how I want my burrito. Definitely choose TS over Taco Bell any day.

Taqueria Sanchez definitely has the best tacos I've ever had. Their pork tacos with the onion and cilantro topping is just amazing and so juicy. And it's so simple. DELISH!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
