Ok, so just before I start you should know that I have been to this place twice in one week because it is THAT good. Driving up to this Cafe, it almost feels as if you are in a storybook and you happened upon a wondrous cottage that serves delicious food. The restaurant is actually a small house located in the middle of a neighborhood. It's surrounded by a picket fence and has a nice porch. You almost feel weird walking in, because it feels like you are walking into someone's home. Upon entering the first time, I was greeted by a kind woman named Betty and told to sit anywhere. Looking over the menu, I realized that this place has everything from poboys to fried catfish to stuffed chicken. I decided on the club and I was delighted when it came because it was HUGE and was accompanied by a large pile of fries. I then went back today and got the corn and crawfish bisque and the Friday special: catfish, toast, fries (or potato salad) and a side salad all for about $9. Both times the food was AMAZING and well priced. I liked that the corn and crawfish bisque had A LOT of crawfish in it, making it a very filling treat. The servings were huge and I had plenty of leftovers both times. The owner, Darryl Ballard, introduced himself and thanked me for coming. I thought it was really nice of him to take the time and check to make sure that I was enjoying everything. 10th Street Cafe is my new favorite place and I plan on becoming a regular. They have great lunch deals (and the serve dinner Wednesday through Saturday) and they have food that will please every palate. Can you tell that I am excited about this place?

Arrived at the cafe for lunch today, 12:30pm. Waited several minutes after sitting for menus, but to be fair there were exactly two people running this place - 1 waitress with 5 tables and 1 chef preparing food for all 12 people. We finished off the crackers at the table and used the photos of the menu on Yelp to decide what to order while we waited for service. Waitress brought the menus and we ordered before she could disappear again... Our order: 2 side salads 1 cup gumbo Club Sandwich, no fries Hamburger, with fries Gumbo arrived first after 10 minutes, followed by the two side salads a few minutes later. The rest of the food arrived an hour after we'd ordered. Food was only okay. The gumbo was pretty good for chicken gumbo (it had more chicken than sausage). The club sandwich had what appeared to be Kraft American Cheese on it - the kind that comes individually wrapped and sticks to itself. I think the cheese sort of ruined the sandwich for me. My guy reports that the hamburger was good, but nothing special.

We just found this place in our neighborhood on Friday (thanks Yelp!). We needed to order a Lent friendly dinner at 8pm. We ordered to go: 2 shrimp po boys, eggplant sticks and oyster Rockefeller soup. It was ready for pick up in 45 minutes. Affordable! We both enjoyed the shrimp po boys. They had crusty, flaky bread and fresh fried shrimp. The eggplant sticks were yummy even though they were a little soggy because of the carry out container. The soup was only ok, no oyster chunks and a little too greasy for us. Overall, we thought it was tasty and will visit again. Next time, we will definitely eat there. The restaurant was very cute, cozy and had a nice bar area. Appears to have patio seating out back as well! Nice little hidden gem in Old Gretna.

On my first visit we were seated promptly but service was horrible it was lunch time there was a table of 6, a table of 3 and 2 of us. We finally get a waitress and she tells us she is not an employee just helping out as someone didn't show up for work. Ok not her fault not the owners fault it happens at this point the restaurant had switched hands several times for some of you old school Gretna and Westbank people this was La Maisonnette Restaurant many many moons ago then The Cottage, then Cafe Etienne and now 10th Street Cafe. Ok sorry for the little bit of history back to food. I ordered the crawfish corn bisque it was extremely good seasoned just right. My entree was the catfish plate cooked to perfection only problem was it took forever. Now you have to realize this is a very small restaurant only a few tables in a front dining room as you walk in to your right and the dining room in the back. I am pretty reasonable and understand about people not coming in to work and all that but on the other hand if you are trying to get your business going you need to be prepared for that stuff. Ok 2nd visit, had lunch with friends it was a Wednesday around 12:30 this time service was great. Our drink order was taken as soon as we sat down. Our orders were taken after drink order was delivered and came out fairly quickly not rushed but quickly. This time I ordered the crawfish corn bisque again and the club sandwhich on white it did not come with cheese as another review had said that it came with american cheese the kind out of the individual wrapper so she must have added cheese. I immediately got a go box I knew I wouldn't eat it all it came with a pile of french fries. The sandwhich was just what I wanted a good old fashioned club sandwhich perfect. Now the fries were a little too mushy for my taste I have to say I am a french fry aficionado when they are cooked right I can make a meal out of them when I push fries away they are not that great. On the flip side we were the last customers of the day but flipping back do you really want to have your customers have a partially great meal or a complete great meal. I'd opt for a completely great meal any day just saying I will return I like this place

Came in to a friendly atmosphere, 3 tables had patrons, 3 tables had the remnants of dinner. Service was slow. Waited 10 minutes to order, another 20 to get drinks and another 15 before our food arrived. Ordered two sandwiches and a spinach dip. I wanted so very much to like this place but my first impression is that the waitress is nice. That's the reason for the two stars. They don't have a liquor license yet so I might try back in a few months. Maybe. Food is good, service is just bad.

Amazing and right here at home! Bread Puddin' the way Mama made!! Can it get any better than this? Darrell was most amiable and provided excellent service. He was highly knowledgeable about his great food. We even met Joseph - Wow - the man behind the curtain of greatness! My wife and I had a very good time! Pat

Catfish meunière was succulent, exactly fried and very tasty. The corn grits were creamy and tasty. (The corn grits could be pared nicely with grilled shrimp). The salad was fresh. Service was prompt, friendly, and accurate. The second plate was chicken breast with spinach, and cheese, wrapped in bacon. This entree was cooked just a bit too long. The side dish of green beans and sausage was too salty for this reviewer. The excessive sat (IMHO) was the reason for 4 instead of five stars. Will return for more with a request for less salt.
