Had a very sad sushi selection. The best thing on the buffet would have to be the beef & broccoli and the pizza.

I've never been to a Chinese buffet in my life. In New York we just don't have that sort of thing. But here I was in New Orleans - my new home - desperate for Chinese food. Some friends brought us and as soon as I walked in the door and saw the Bruce Lee posters, I was sold. When I walked ten more feet and saw all those chafing dishes, I was floored. "But how do I pay? How do they know how much I eat?" I whispered "They don't care how much you eat. It's $11.99" my friend whispered back I was sure he was pulling my leg. By my third trip to the Jalapeno Chicken station I was sure a waiter was going to drag me out while I screamed "BUT IT SAYS 'ALL YOU CAN EAT!!!'" just like Homer Simpson. But no: I went for a fourth. It was very clean, and much fresher than I would have imagined. There are friendly waiters hovering everywhere to grab your plate so you can refill a new one. There are huge TVs so you can watch whatever sporting event happens to be on at the moment. The chafing dishes are shallow and they place is always busy so nothing sits in them for very long. That food is MOVING! If it's fried (which most of it is) you can bet it'll still be crispy. The hot stuff stays hot and the cold stuff stays cold. Is it the most authentic Chinese food ever? Certainly not. But it is pretty damn good and there's lots of non-Chinese items there (pizza, fried plantains, sushi, Mongolian stir-fry, macaroni & cheese and even peel & eat shrimp which weirdly lives in the same station as the pudding) so there's something for everyone. Lunch is an even bigger steal at $6.99. I recommend the jalapeno chicken, wok shrimp, plantains, crab rangoon, peanut chicken, peel & eat shrimp, sushi and the sauteed green beans. Fair warning: there are 48 chafing dishes at the Hot Wok and only two of them are vegetables! No really. It's true. Eat up!

I went there after I asked someone to drive me to a chinese restaurant. Wasn't expecting such affordable buffet food. Was amazingly good not just for a buffet. They had a few american dishes available and the restaurant was very clean. Food appeared to lack proper allergen labeling (shellfish, gluten, dairy) which for someone not ordering directly from a waitress might require. As someone with a shellfish allergy, I found it difficult to know what was prepared near seafood.

I've been here several times since it opened. It's gotten better over time. The first time or two, I might have given it two stars, but it's now a solid three. Some things on the buffet are really good. For example, the jalapeño chicken is delicious. The chicken teriyaki skewers are meaty (not gristly like they used to be) and delicious. Other things aren't so good. For example, the squid salad doesn't taste like anything, and the ham cubes on the salad bar had an off taste like they'd been in the refrigerator too long. In all, it's a pretty decent chinese buffet. If you like this style of restaurant, you won't be disappointed. Most things on the buffet are fresh and either hot or cold, as appropriate. Pro-tip: the restaurant has a mongolian grill, but it doesn't operate until after 4 PM Monday-Saturday. It's open all day Sunday.

Came around 3pm and this time other buffet places usually have old dishes out... Here, no. The food was still fresh and hot. Plenty of choices and many of the dishes were really good. Around 4pm they started prepping for dinner. Plenty more choices at dinner time. Lunch ran myself and another only $16 plus change. Pretty decent chinese buffet, if you are out in this area.

3.5/5 solid options. so i stumbled here after my very first venture into chalmette (is this chalmette?). i was hungry and had a slight craving for american-chinese, so i figured why not? the price was reasonable for what it was. bright spots for this place was that i felt there were more meat/entree items vs. fillers. some buffets will offer you so many "fillers" (rice, noodles, other not useful stuff), but this place offered me fish 3-ways, shrimp 4-ways, etc. so i felt for what i paid, i got value in that more of what i was eating was seafood rather than other stuff. it seems they have an awkward lunch vs. dinner pricing option, but if ever i get a bad craving for "chinese" this will be it!

I used to be regular at Hot Wok with my husband and 2 kids but my one son ended up vomiting the noodles so we haven't been back. He was the only one who got sick but he was the only one who ate the noodles. Before this incident they were really good. I'd still go back but my son refuses.

Hot Wok is decent, but not great. The best, most fresh and healthy tasting item there would be the Mongolian grill in the back. The sushi in the back is also okay, nothing wowza. But before you see either of those things, what you notice is six long buffets with chafing tables inside of them and a recessed ceiling all neon-lit and colorful. One of the tables has mostly salad bar type stuff. Another has mostly fruit (ack, please peel the kiwi, right? Is it just me who'd expect the skin to be removed?). There are Chinese meat dishes and green mussels and some sort of octopus something-or-other and the full range of fried American and Chinese foods - egg rolls, shrimp (2 kinds), fish, fries, wontons, chicken nuggets, etc. There's also pizza, macaroni & cheese, noodles, boiled shrimp. And soup - egg drop, hot & sour, maybe another. The hot & sour soup is surprisingly edible. This is such a hard soup to nail, or so it'd seem based on how many terrible bowls of what-should-be-awesomeness I've had, so I give Hot Wok credit for making a hot & sour I actually eat every time I go there. The desserts are okay - more fun for the kids than actually tasty, the exceptions being the pudding and the ice cream. Still, Hot Wok is convenient, and you start eating as soon as you can fix up a plate, so it's a nice place to bring the kids. I'm sure I'll return soon.

The only thing consistent about this place is the food consistently gets worse every time I go. My only reason for going back is because my boyfriend loves stuffing his face full of Chinese food and unfortunately there aren't many decent places for it in New Orleans. This place has amazingly tacky decor. Honestly, it's one of the only pleasant things about being here. There's multicolored, neon lights on the ceiling, Bruce Lee posters everywhere and a giant tree in the middle of the restaurant. There are also quite a few nice sized televisions that are always showing some type of sporting event...or Cops. With the exception of the hostess, the staff isn't very friendly. Especially after you've payed your bill. We've felt like we were being rushed out plenty of times while we were still eating, even though the dining room was mostly empty. We've also been completely ignored a few times after they've picked up the check. With the combination of their high dinner price, mediocre food, and rude service I definitely won't be going back.

I've gone to many asian buffets in the city ; such as, Mandarin, Panda King, Panda, and East. The most convenient one I find right after attending school at UNO would be this place, plus it's fair pricing at lunch-it's cheaper than the other buffets. It doesn't have a large variety of food like Mandarin or Panda King does, or a huge range of sushi like East or their hibachi grill, but it does stock up your normal chinese food needs like Pepper steak, Teriyaki chicken, Sesame Chicken, Egg Drop Soup, Sushi, etc. My most favorite dish there would have to be the happy shrimp, the best description of the shrimp I can give you is that it definitely lives up to it's name in making me happy. I only go here when I'm cheap in saving money, don't feel like driving very far from school (particularly in a crowded street area place like in the city or metarie, or i'm not in favor of eating at a restaurant. My overall experience with the wait staff was okay. There were many times where I did feel uncomfortable because some members of the wait staff kind of looked as if they were constantly staring at me until I finished eating to take my plates. It's kind of creepy and I don't like knowing there's someone in front of me watching me eat. Even so, they were very nice towards me in waiting my table.

It's a buffet. It has sushi and lots of fresh entrees. Very clean, with excellent service. However, the sushi guy did not understand my "no fish" or "cucumber roll" order and so.... I unintentionally ate fish. The bar was pretty cool looking, but I don't think I will be returning.

yes, its an asian/chinese buffet...BUT....this one is really good!!! the food is fresh, they fix it in small batches, so it doesnt sit out and get all gross....there's sushi, a mongolian grill, dim sum, a variety is soups, lots of hot entrees to choose from and a nice salad bar and lots of fresh fruit...including lychee nuts to finish up with!! the place is all brand new, so the decor is very nice, good service. obviously authentic....and there's a brand new 6 screen stadium cinema right next door to enjoy a movie afterwards! (oh, there's also a Big Lots and Hibbetts on the other side!)

Variety and courtesy. Reasonably priced with a good selection of items. Very efficient waiters. My kids love it.

They do not appreciate the military and service dogs.never go there again. They expect a disabled person to leave their service dog at table and have to have someone else watch the dog so you can eat .

TERRIBLE!!!!! My 10 yr old son vomited at our table after eating 3 pieces of sweet & sour chicken. The manager was very, very rude when we stopped at the front counter to explain the situation, She said there's nothing wrong with her food. I explained he was sick and we had to leave. I couldn't eat either, as I could still smell the sour scent of vomit. I felt sick to my stomach. She told me that it was a buffet and I had to pay for our meals. She could see from the check we were there less than 5 minutes. Took off 15% of bill. My total was still over $20.00. Then, she called the police when I refused to pay that amount. PSYCHO!! We never ate! My son got scared & started crying. In the end, I put $21.00 on the counter and walked out. I will never, ever give that place another dime

A waiter just laughed me trying to pay. And then begged for a tip. Thanks Evan. In short, thanks for the crappy service.

I don't like buffets so my review may be biases. I've eaten here twice because 1) I went with my family & 2) my boyfriend wanted to try it since he couldn't go the first time I went. The decor is beautiful. I love the tier ceiling. The food was 'meh'. Hot Wok's selection of food is just about the same as anywhere else. I think their dinner price is a bit high considering they don't offer too much. One thing i did like, the ice cream is pre scooped into containers. Convenient and no mess.

The food at Hot Wok is very good. It's a very large restaurant. With a variety of food. If you ever want a family night out. This is the place to be.

Not the best. A waste o $10 actually. Cold food and most of the dishes I tried made me want to never come back. I'd advise you not even eat the American foods such as the bacon cheddar potatoes -_-

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
