My favorite restaurant of all time. ever. period. The salsa is so addictive and the cheese dip is out of this world. When my family visits me in Texas they always bring down a cooler for me full of salsa and dip. Mainly I love the salsa and covering the #1 w/rice with salsa so that more salsa gets into my belly as fast as possible. Other stuff is good and food isn't anything special but I always get the same thing so I can't comment on most of it. Service is always A++.

Love this place. Been there three times and it's always perfect. Great authentic Mexican food. Very patient with us when we end up yapping so much we forget to look at the menu. We hang out for awhile after also and they are very nice. Not trying to run you out the door. Of course tipping good for service like this, is how you keep service like this. Remember that folks! My daughter goes here all the time, she's an MSU student. She says, hands down best Mexican restaurant in Murray.

Service was fast and friendly. Standard fare for a Mexican restaurant, but it was good. The prices were reasonable. I would eat here again.

Best Mexican dishes in Murray! Here's a hint, when you get your pre-meal chips and salsa, ask for the cheese dip as well! It's a little extra but well worth it! There is no such thing as a long wait at this establishment! They always have plenty of workers and the taste quality has never suffered in the 65+ times I have eaten there. The only thing I do not like, is that there are too many good things on the menu to choose from!

I was in Murray for a visit with my sister, my sister was craving Tex-Mex, so Los Portales seemed like a reasonable choice. When my party and I walked in, we were greeted with fast and friendly service and were quickly seated. We were immediately given chips and mild salsa, which my party quickly took care of. Refills of drinks, chips and salsa were provided speedily and without hesitation. I ordered the Quesadilla Grande, which, to its name, is a large quesadilla (10 in) with a side of rice. It took about ten minutes to get my party's meals cooked and to our table. The only thing that bothered me is that the waiter precariously carried our dishes on his arm and shoulder, but he managed to pull the trick off (surprisingly), so no qualms there. My food was nice and hot. The chicken in my quesadilla was excellently cooked and was nice and tender, as was the tortilla. There were adequate spices within my dish and overall. All-in-all, I had an excellent experience at this restaurant, and should I ever be in Murray again, I will surely visit this eatery once more.

This is the best Mexican place in Murray hands down. The servers are always extremely helpful and make sure you always have plenty of chips and salsa and your drink stays full. They have awesome prices with very few things being over $10. My favorite dish there is the Chile Colorado, the sauce is on point and the beef tips are always very tender. The Chicken, Queso, and Rice is also very good, the meat is very favorable and their cheese sauce is very creamy! This location is much better than the location in Benton because they have Margaritas you can enjoy your meal with as well!

Quick, but not great. Chile rellano was not even a stuffed pepper, but a pile of cheese with a pepper on top, skin still on. The beans were salty and a sloppy mess. The salsa was good, but not worth the trip.

One of the best restaurant I ever tried in US. I have tried fish fajita, cheese steak, grilled tilapia (fish). All of them are awesome. Even my friends tried different dishes they all were so delicious. Highly recommend it ;)

If you're a fan of Racer football, then you know about some of the traditions: listening to the awesome marching band or watching "Racer One" gallop around the track after each home team touchdown. Since the stadium is really only one-fourth of a stadium, with a perched view of the US 641 - N. 12th Street business corridor, another tradition involves using timeouts to scope out a post-game eating venue. If you look southeast toward the Olympic Plaza at the corner of 12th and Chestnut, just to the right of the "Dollar" store sign (use your binoculars, if you have them), you'll see the sign for Los Portales. Los Portales (Spanish for portal or entry) is one of at least three popular Mexican places in town. On game day, you'll love it because they know how to deal with crowds. We arrived during the post-homecoming-game rush. Our party of ten was given the option to wait for a large table to open, or divide into tables of six and four, which we chose. Service was fast and pleasant, though with a few language challenges between us and our server. Eventually we got it all worked out. Chips and salsa were abundant, we were kept well watered, the food was consistently prepared and presented, and the prices were reasonable.

Salsa needs help. How about cilantro instead of chili powder?!?! Service is always excellent though!

Pretty stock Tex-Mex fair says this Texan, but the service is good and the prices are cheap. They are building a nice, new location near Lowe's which looks promising.

Best Mexican food in this area, along with great service, I don't think I have ever waited over ten seconds for a table.

I don't know if it's because this restaurant had high ratings and I was just expecting more, but I was very unimpressed. I would give 2.5 stars if I could. To start things off, while they do serve alcohol (which is decently priced), they don't have a bar to sit at. The service was excellent, and the food was plentiful, but it just tasted very low quality. I guess if you're looking for low priced meal and drinks, this would be a good place to go. Personally, I would check out other restaurants in the area before returning to this place.

The only mexican restaurant I will eat at while I'm visiting Murray, KY I've always had a good time there. Service has always been great! Food has always been great as well! I'm so glad they serve alcoholic beverages there now too!

We were seated quickly, I ordered queso & pico de gallo to go with our chips and salsa, the pico was very fresh, delicious. They do not have a good selection of cocktails, (No Vodka & Tonic seemed strange) but Tequila and cerveza was appropriate. The Chile Relleno was wonderful and they have a Raspberry Chicken dish that was also very good.

Great Mexican restaraunt in Murray! The margaritas are top notch and the food is great. The staff is friendly and even when the place is packed it doesn't take a horribly long time for them to get you seated. The chicken chimichanga and enchiladas suizas are two of my favorites. You can see their menu at MurrayMenus.com .

I had the grande burrito with chicken and it was great. The service was excellent. This is defiantly a Mexican restaurant that you should check out if you have the opportunity.

Murray offers so many options when it comes to good Mexican food, but Los Portales is the best - by far. The service is impeccable, portions are large and every authentic Mexican dish is amazing. Do partake of the homemade chips and salsa which magically appear and are constantly replenished. One bite of the zesty salsa and you're hooked. The menu is impressive and offers an option to suit every appetite. But, try the fajitas, they are amazing! And be prepared to bring home some leftovers. Reasonably priced, great atmosphere, great food - what more could you want?

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
