I was really looking forward to eating here but I was a little disappointed. A wanted to order a reuben but hey had lost power the night before and it was unavailable. So I went with the roast beef sandwich and my gf had the chicken salad sandwich. The roast beef was pretty good but nothing I would come back for. The chicken salad was run of the mill and the bread it was served on was just too dense for my taste. The sticky bun, however, was very good (I might come back for that.) Another issue I had is something I am beginning to see in several restaurants. When you order from a counter and pick your food up from the counter, I believe you should not be obligated to tip unless you just want to. They use a tablet computer for checkout where you may your tip selection and sign with your finger. You can select the no tip option but you feel like a tightwad when you are face to face and say no tip, even though most cashiers usually look at the ceiling or backwards when you sign. It just seems awkward to me. And that is not necessarily a dig on this establishment as several other restaurants do this also. I'm just not a fan.

A brand new venture by serial and successful entrepreneur Susan Hershberg on the site of the Wiltshire Pantry Catering location at the corner of Barret & Breckenridge. Its still very early days and I would say in the process of shake-down but the cool and thoughtful interior design mated with an exceptional range of (often exotic) bread and pastries and the always happy and helpful staff make this a great addition to the area. Its clear the team are passionate about what they do and are close to the food and its production. I have visited on three occasions now and have two suggestions for areas that need to be attended to complete the perfect picture. Firstly please price all food and drink - this should have been mandatory from the start and leaves people guessing at the bill; or as some have said to me, not buying at all as they fear the price tag on some of the more exotic and interesting items. Secondly take a look a staff coffee training; I have had a coffee three times now and twice it was tepid at best and took 5 - 10 minutes to get to me when I was the only customer? People will make the comparison with other local concepts so this needs to be a focus, particularly ahead of getting busier. Its a great start overall but the few bugs need a rapid tweak to cement this as a regular favorite.

Every visit to the Wiltshire is always enjoyable. You are welcomed by delicious pastries and baked goods as you walk into the bakery. If you are going to have lunch, there are menus on the counter and you can order from the seasonal menu. For today, I got something on bread, white bean hummus with avocado, lemon, and dill. It was light, airy and delicious. The service was lovely and the atmosphere relaxing. I always look forward to coming to Wiltshire Bakery & Cafe.

One word: croissants. These are the best I've had anywhere in the United States, and that includes foodie mecca San Francisco, where I lived for 15 years before moving to Louisville. These are the real deal, as good as you'd get at any Parisian boulangerie. But I've also enjoyed Wiltshire's salads, quiches, cookies and other baked goods. The location is handy for Highlands residents, many of whom may not be familiar with the location because its a little off the beaten track. The interior is cheerful, and the staff friendly and welcoming. And, of course, you can get anything to go. I only wish they stayed open later to include dinner. But maybe that will come in time.

Fantastic bakery in a great little space! I drive by this place almost every day on my way to work and have always wanted to stop. I made it a point to drive out here this past Sunday for a pastry and coffee and could kick myself for not coming before. It reminds me of some of the trendy little bakeries in Chicago I like to frequent! I opted for a strawberry scone and a cafe au lait while my husband ordered a savory scone and a biscuit sandwich out of the 30% basket. I loved my scone, but I could probably be fine with one of the discount pastries on my next trip since they warm them up for you. Especially the lavender scone! I think the only disappointing thing is the location. It's out of the way of other businesses on Barret and Bardstown, so it's really only walkable if you live close. It would be dangerous for me if they had a location on Bardstown Road (but I highly encourage a space in Douglass Loop!).

This is one of my top three places to eat in Louisville! Such a hidden gem! Their pastries are mouthwatering and decadent. They offer a day old pastries at a discount rate. For my first visit, I decided to get a discounted pain au chocolat warmed. Oh my gosh! It was one of the best tasting pastries I've ever had! I can only imagine what it taste like fresh. My husband got a cinnamon roll warmed. Tasting that brought tears to my eyes. Since then, if they are serving cinnamon rolls, we order one each, so we don't have to share. After my first visit, I ended buying a few pastries for the road (not going to mention how much- don't want to look like a glutton). They also do lunch after eleven. The pantry is small, so be mindful of the busy times. For lunch, I had the roast beef sandwich with balsamic onions, provolone, and horseradish aioli on an oatmeal baguette. The onions made the sandwich. The bread was great, too! What I like about them is that instead of fries on the side, they served a quinoa salad. I like that they have a healthy alternative. This has become one of my husband's and mine favorite place. We have decided to come here at least once a month, even if it means making a special trip. It will be my official post-race stop. Who needs a banana when you can have a flaky, sweet cinnamon roll?

I've never had anything there that I didn't love. It's all amazing! There have been a few times where the folks working behind the counter weren't very nice - once my dad ordered a vanilla latte and the girl uttered an audible sigh and rolled her eyes, then told her friend, "I haaaaate when people order drinks that take FOREVER," in a voice loud enough that we could hear. That was kind of a bummer. Also, it's a little (okay, a lot) pricey. But the food is amazing and for the few times the staff was kind of rude, other times the staff was extremely kind.

Wiltshire B&C has become a recent favorite of mine for its quiet, excellent vibe, clean and friendly layout, and of course, its baked goods. Sandwiches and soups are outstanding here as are the salads. Perhaps my favorite salad offerings in town. A recent one-off brunch classic, which consisted of Wiltshire's Croque Monsieur (Ham and Gruyere cheese on house-baked brioche) and a soy latte (one of the best soy lattes going), has become all but a necessity in my Sunday morning ritual. Closed Monday, but open at 0700 on the other weekdays, an early stop here can make your day.

Great place! Their sandwiches are a bit hit or miss (didn't like the bahn mi, but loved a turkey from a previous visit). The pastries and coffee drinks are always solid. Wish there was more space for outside seating, as the inside gets cramped and loud during busy times.

What a beautiful and delicious surprise! Walking through the door of this brightly lit, sweet smelling and chic interior is like walking into one of those Pinterest interior design pins. Sweet goods are enticing displayed behind glass panels, the menus are hand-written on vintage frames, the cheerful and friendly waitresses are welcoming. There are various selections of soups, sandwiches, salads, sweets and coffee. You can do 1/2 and 1/2 orders on many items. My 1/2 Kentucky Harvest salad with smoked chicken, bacon, and squash with lightly sweet and sour dressing was refreshing and delicious. The soup of the day, tomato and apple, was creamy and perfect for the cold autumn day. Small portions for the price of $11 but it was delicious and filling. Seating is limited so you might have to wait for a table. It's a perfect place for a lunch date with the girls.

This place has become my Kryptonite. I pass it on my way to work, and my willpower weakens. In particular I like their fig bars, which are like oversized Fig Newtons, and their "big girl grilled cheese," as the server called it. That is a grilled sandwich with mozzarella and tomatoes and on owner Susan Hershberg's artisan bread. I also stop by hoping to buy one of their "do-ssants," which is their take on the popular cronut. But alas, they've been so popular that I haven't been able to gobble up one of these $2 treats. The decor is also tastefully done. I'm hoping to actually stop and eat a meal there soon -- as opposed to taking it to go -- and take it all in properly.

After seeing the high reviews on yelp I decided to give this place a try. I work very close to here so I just walked right over. The place is very small, but it is set up well and clean. I had soup and a sandwich and neither were memorable or worth the price. Their lunch menu selection is limited, but they do have quite a few bakery items. I have only been to this establishment 1 time, so I'm just basing my opinion from that. I really wanted to like this place because I'm so close to it, but don't really see myself returning. I would rather go down the street to The Café for a great lunch where I feel like I get more than what I pay for.

Since I first tried Ghyslain, I thought I would never find a comparable lunch spot that I liked as well if not better. Wiltshire has surpassed Ghyslain. The prices are comparable, so get ready to shell out some cash for lunch. Coffee, salad and a dessert can easily set you back $18, but it's worth it. Seating is limited and they don't take reservations. It's counter service only. Be prepared to get your items to go if you arrive only to find that there aren't any free spots. The lunch menu is limited, especially for vegetarians. I've gotten the same salad every time I've gone. I can't recall the name, but it has corn and avocado in it. I would definitely continue to get this every time I go in the future. It's good and, let's be honest - I'm really going there for the dessert anyway. I'm overwhelmed by the variety of dessert options, all of which always look great. I always opt for the ones with chocolate as a main ingredient because that's the way I roll, and I've never been disappointed. Two of the reasons I like it better than Ghyslain are the staff and the clientele. The patrons aren't stuffy and hoity toity like those at Ghyslain. Wiltshire is nestled in the Highlands and its customers are reflective of the neighborhood. The staff are all so friendly and seem thrilled that you've stopped in to dine with them. The only downside to lunching in the cafe is the smell from the kitchen that lingers on your clothes and in your hair for the rest of the day. It smells delightful when you're there, but it's unappetizing a couple of hours later. Maybe better ventilation would help. Bad smell or not, I'm going back as often as my schedule allows.

Wow! This is a great place. The food is amazing but slightly overpriced. Quaint, chic, comfortable. If you sit in the rear of the cafe you can watch them busily creating wonderful pastries. Service is very friendly. Great little neighborhood spot.

Delicious, fresh, creative, great presentation. Friendly staff, clean shop. European quality, right here in River City. Get thee to Wiltshire!

Very cute decor, friendly service, strange location for such a place. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and my French toast with Chantilly cream was extraordinary. My chai latte was acceptable but could've been better. My wife's pastry was a tad dry and not adequately stuffed, but overall we were pleased.

Ever since Joe Davola's closed its doors, I've been eagerly anticipating the next business to take over its quaint Barrett avenue location. I'm glad to see that the owners decided to open another bakery/cafe offering: soups, salads, sandwiches and an array of pastries. First impressions: I love the renovations they've done to the building. It really opens up the space and gives it a tasteful, uncluttered look. Also, as someone who doesn't love chicken salad made with grapes and walnuts, I was pleased to see that Wiltshire Cafe offers a chicken salad sandwich sans fruit and nuts. Unfortunately, the day I went, they had already sold out of the chicken salad so I ordered the Sourdough Kentucky Club. I thought it was delicious and really enjoyed the side of lentils that came with it. Times you should come in for lunch: when I arrived around 12:30 on a Tuesday, the cafe was completely full (it only seats about 20 people). However, when I left an hour later it was almost completely empty. Despite having a full house, it wasn't a long wait for a table. Overall, I had a great experience. I look forward to going back again.

Delicious Lunch!! Very fresh & wonderful combinations!! ....Went with son, who had requested a different bread type & no cheese on a lunch item--staff very accommodating to his request! However, small miscommunication resulted in cheese on the sandwich, staff quick to apologize & replaced with requested modification in very timely & pleasant way!! And, insisted on giving us, free of charge, a dessert, --in which we chose -- a most delicious, moist & wonderful chocolate/pumpkin brownie big enough to share generously!!!

I love this neighborhood cafe! It feels elegant and chic, and the bakery is amazing. Four stars instead of five because I just wish they had longer hours, and no WIFI. But I am grateful to live in walking distance of this place!

Beautiful ham & cheese croissants!!! Very cool store! And they serve Quills coffee. Wish I live near by to savour their pastry and coffee every morning. Service was fast and welcoming also. You MUST check it out (before they become too popular)

Had a delicious pain au chocolat and coffee this morning. Definitely the best place for pastries in Louisville. Service was fast and friendly and the space is clean and bright. Will be back soon.
