oh no. not another burger place where i must be enticed by all the fries, shakes, and mouth watering burgers ... this diet is never going to happen. or is it? Ive been here before, once or twice. First time was great! Chicken avocado sandwich thing was delicious, rosemary fries were something to be remembered, and that nutter butter shake ... omg :D. more please! The second time we left smelling like we had been in the kitchen flipping and smashing burgers all afternoon (poor ventilation?), other than that, it was still good. This time, it had been a while since we've been. With myself trying to eat better and both of us not wanting to pack a change of clothes for afterwards, we decided it was time to give it another shot ... they did have salads after all. & let me just say, the salad i ordered lacked nothing of taste or quantity. For 310 delicious calories, It had bacon. it had cheese. Guacamole. jalapeños. I added grilled chicken and left the dressing out (i didn't need it anyway). I'm so impressed but how filling and satisfying this salad was at a burger joint. btw, it was the baja cobb salad. So if you're ever craving burgers and you have that one friend that's "on a diet" (like me), tell them it's all good ... and it is! :)

First time at any Smashburger. Like The Counter back home. Cool selections and build your own. Ordered the spicy jalapeño baja and it was a bit salty and not really that spicy. Also ordered the spicy buffalo fries and those were good. The guy that took my order was good. Actually had a positive attitude amd was courteous. I'd come back.

Just had my first experience at Smashburger. Why did I wait so long? Yes, the meat is on the thin side at about 1/3 inches, but it's packed full of juicy, hit burger flavor. I scarfed the Bluegrass Burger, which includes bacon (yay), cheddar, and fried banana peppers. Cheese was a nice meltiness and there was BBQ sauce too. Yum. My friends had the BBQ, Bacon and Cheddar Burger and I heard no complaints. One fry (rosemary-flavored!) fed us all. Friendly gal at the counter, very clean place. Come here to get full of yum!

We came into Smash Burger and it was glacially cold in here.. we ordered and the cashier was a typical fast food employee with no emotion toward what was going on around her. We went to get our drinks and the sweet tea was horribly soured. Our order arrived at the table quickly and was hot & fresh. The Smash Fries are Phenomenal! I enjoyed my BBC Bacon Cheddar burger!

The food was...good. That's all. I had the spicy buffalo fries which, in my opinion, were over seasoned to the point that I had to stop eating them because all the salt hurt my mouth!

MR says ... is there one in Cincinnati? MRS says ... apparently YES!!! we're so delighted to discover SmashBurger before moving to Cincinnati otherwise we'd still be going to FiveGuys. No offense, we love FiveGuys but to have variety is good. It's nice to know what SmashBurger has to offer over FiveGuys. You don't get free roasted peanuts from SmashBurger but there's no other good burger chain out there that uses quality ingredients. So, if you like burgers, then this place is as good as it gets. Great variety of fresh meats: beef burgers, chicken, hotdogs, and veggie. Sides are so good. I like the fried veggies and sweet potato fries. Try it. You'd come back just to have sides :)

My husband and I went there last night. The serve was good but the tables still had drinks and baskets on them. The burgers were ok but nothing to brag about.

The restaurant is trashy every time. The burgers are good. The service is ok. From the bathrooms to empty tables, there is sense of urgency to clean. I sent pics of the bathroom and dining room to corporate and received no response. I'm done. Will never go back.

So good I felt it twice.... Yea I said it...of course I had the Baja Burger with Jalapenos, Chipotle Bun, Guacamole, Spicey Mayo, and Cajun Seasoning. Oh and I threw a fried egg to my burger because I could. This place is a build your own burger establishment. They have a couple classics listed, like the American Cheese Burger, but the ingredients are high quality. In fact, all the ingredients and sides are good quality, you will know because of the $7 you'll pay for your burger. I had the smash fries which had good flavor of seasoning and olive oil. Smashburger also carries sweet potato fries and cut potato chips. Finally, Smashburger has the same setup for your chicken sandwiches, if you came to Smashburger, well... not looking for a burger. I can definitely see some comfort food appeal to this place, which was kept very clean and had great service. I definetly left with a smash after effect on my face...kinda looked like this * L * O

I ordered the bbq bacon burger and the Rosemary garlic sweet potato fries. It was pretty good overall. Great for the price... Everything was about $10 ( I got the big burger)...It was my first time here and they helped me decide on what to order. Next time I go back I'll be sure to try a milkshake. Only con would be the sweet potato fries were laying in oil practically... And they didn't have many dipping sauce options for the fries. I ended up going with a Cajun sauce. It was mild but suitable for the sweet fries vs the smash sauce they initially brought out. I liked their variety compared to Five Guys for example. So I'll def stop back in and try another burger next.

My dinner companion was the one to select the place we ate. And he wanted a burger. So, to Smashburger we came. This was my first time at a Smashburger. Ordering was easy enough, and I was pleased to get an Ale8 (really I just wanted something cold because we had walked to dinner). I am watching what I eat so I opted for the black bean burger with ranch and avocado. The patty wasn't too bad...I've had better bean burgers, and I have had worse. What really turned me off was the avocado....it was basically inedible. It was strangely dry and really hard. Like....I struggled to break a slice in half....with my hands. What have I done to anger the avocado gods?! My friend enjoyed his burger, but I have no inclination to return.

I went on a Friday during lunch hour and it wasn't too busy yet around 11:15 am. It took about 10 minutes for it to be ready, but they make it fresh. I love their BBQ, bacon and cheddar burger and their spicy fries. The facility is clean and well maintained.

This location used to be a weekly family outing. Every Friday evening after our swim practice we'd head over around 8:30pm. Recently the place has been filthy and the service terrible. Last Friday was the worst. The manager clearly doesn't care, the clerk had her two kids running crazy while she yelled at them between taking our orders. The burger was dry and tasteless. What used to be one of my favorite burger joints will now be at the bottom of our list.

The burgers were definitely good. It seemed to be a little high compared to a few places I've been. Atmosphere was ok. I think my expectations may have been a bit to high. I don't know something about the name i just expected more. But can't tell you why lol. Staff was very friendly. This is a great place for a quick work lunch.

The wife and I stopped in as we had never eaten here before. It's got a decent menu with some items that sounded good. I was a little turned off by the appearance inside. The floor was surprisingly messy and many of the tables were dirty. I encountered some of the same lack luster employee attitude that I saw another reviewer mention. The food was decent. I am not saying it is bad by any stretch. But for the price ($25+ for 2) I was expecting a little more. I had a chicken sandwich and my wife got a burger. I had the sweet potato fries and she got the seasoned fries. I wish I had gotten the fries she got because those alone might have been enough to bump the rating up a star. All in all, this is not a bad place to eat. It seems like a high priced fast food joint with not a lot separating it from some other fast food joints to justify the price.

I tried to go but was told they were closing early because they didn't have enough workers. The building has a large sign proclaiming that they are open until 10 PM every night. This is obviously not the case. There are many other places I can go in this town and I will not be back. The last time I went, I waited over 30 minutes for one burger and I was one of only three people in the whole restaurant. I would keep things moving along and not waste my time.

Although I have heard good things about it, I was resistant to trying Smashburger. I've done a lot of food service, and I have fired cooks who persisted in smashing hamburger on the grill. If there is ever a Dixonburger, my policy will remain, but I'm glad I tried Smashburger today. The folks at Smashburger abuse their meat, but it works somehow. This Smashburger location is nice. The decor is more "casual dining" than "fast food." The person at the register was nice, but a little too wound up for my taste. He needs to take a deep breath or meditate or something. The dining room was clean: mostly. Tables were bussed, but some of them needed to be wiped. Prices were fair: about $10 for burger, fries and large beverage. I think smashed meat works at Smashburger because it really allows the flavor of the accompaniments to shine. Beef is an important player, but it is no longer the star of the show. It is a team player in a great ensemble cast. I ordered a Bluegrass Smashburger, which comes with Wild Turkey Bourbon BBQ sauce, bacon, cheddar and fried banana pepper rings. I also ordered fries and iced tea. The burger was very good. True to the name, the burger patty was smashed down to about a quarter inch. It's really difficult to cook meat that thin any way but well done, and that's how my meat was cooked. I worry about barbecue sauce on a burger (it can take over), but they applied just the right amount to allow for subtlety. The bacon was good, and the cheddar was sharp and melted into a delicious glop. The banana peppers on top were very lightly breaded and very tasty. The burger was perfectly composed. Balanced. It was hamburger as art. If my burger is Matisse and theirs is Mondrian, both can still be wonderful! The fries were fine. They were shoestring cut, which makes them very crispy. They tasted good. I LOVE places that have delicious freshly brewed iced tea. Smashburger offers THREE kinds of freshly brewed iced tea: unsweet, sweet and green. They use Hones-T, which is a very good brand. I had the unsweet, and it was heavenly. All-in-all, Smashburger is a good place. I'll be back.

Smashburger is surprisingly yummy! Great sweet potato fries, try them Smash style with olive oil and rosemary! I like their multigrain bun, slightly healthier option.

I have to Smash where ever I can because it is such a unique taste. The level of execution is consistent across the country. I have had Smash out West and in the Deep South. There customer service is always one of the most refreshing things about the experience. I try to order the specialty Smash Burger at each location. This location has the "Bluegrass" More to follow constant eater.

The location downtown is good, but something isn't quite right with the food here. Everything is always undercooked or overcooked or just generally doesn't taste very good. The place is decently clean but for the price and taste, try elsewhere. There are too many options nearby to go for badly cooked food.

OK, this is technically bordering at 3-3/4 stars but I couldn't really push to 4 because I can't really say "Yay, I'm a fan!" That's a stretch. I give them props for a pretty good burger, fresh ingredients and I will recommend if you're searching for a better than McD's burger on the Hurstbourne/Shelbyville side of town. However, fandom requires a little more flag waving and a big foam finger, and Smashburger was not handing those out this particular day. On to the review. Smashburger is another among the fast-growing line of "deluxe" burger chains, right behind Five Guys. I haven't tried Five Guys yet, so I can't really compare, but I suspect it's fairly similar. Good burgers with your choice of toppings that range from the type of bun to the type of sauce. I had a pretty basic burger on an egg bun kicked up a few notches with some jalapenos and a chipotle mayo. A little greasy but good and definitely spicy. They also have salads (and a black bean burger), hot dogs and chicken sandwiches so they're not simply suited to the beef lovers only. Sides include sweet potato fries (a favorite) tossed with rosemary and garlic. I would calm down on the rosemary. It tends to be a little overpowering and again, the fries were a little greasy, but otherwise, not bad. I can't comment on the other sides, but it's more than simply fries. This location is clean and fairly spacious with a little outdoor patio which generally is always a plus. They're getting a pretty decent take-out business and didn't seem to be lacking for customers. I suspect they'll be around for awhile.

For what it is, this is a good place. The service was great and food delicious - a sort of high end fast food. We walked away pleased.

Smashburger reminds me of Steak 'n Shake but greasier and more expensive. And sadly not as good. I like that you could dress your burger anyway you wanted with a good variety of toppings but unfortunately putting fancy toppings on a bland greasy burger does not make it any better. We paid nearly 30 dollars for two burgers with fries and milk shakes which in my opinion is a bit expensive especially since the food was just ok. Save some money and hit up Steak 'n Shake instead.

Perfect place if you are looking for a great burger that won't leave a grease ball in your stomach. Cooked when you order every meal taste hot and fresh. Definitely recommend!

The burger was OK. Little pricey for what you get. I also got the salty caramel milk shake. It was good but a small portion for the price. I've had better burgers for less money.

Good burgers and friendly service! Love having lettuce as a listed option instead of a bun. Update: Two return visits have been less than impressive. Both times, the service was snippy, the orders were wrong, and repeated attempts to correct them were botched. What happened to this place? I've reduced the stars from four to three.

Well first time here.... visiting from SoCal. My bro. N I was just getting out of the house for a quick lunch... So basically seems like a simple place... Decor was all good... Went there with my youngest son before his scout meeting. I love going out with my kids before thier activities. Family time is the best time. So we tried Smashburger for the first time. I found the menu a little confusing, but I survived it. My son got the kids grilled cheese and fries. He also asked if we could share fried pickles. I got a "create my own" ordered the way I like it, or so the menu said. I ordered the basic burger with Blue Cheese (only $.70 and normally places charge more for Blue. Positive for me), Mustard, and pickles. The cashier asked me how I wanted it cooked. I said Medium Rare. He said they would only do it in Medium Well, or Well done. That is when I knew it was a problem. I have learned that when a restaurant says they can or will only do a burger Medium Well or Well, then they are cooking a frozed patty. It is nearly impossible to do a medium rare burger from a frozen state. That was a little disappointing. We got our ticket and went to our table. The food was brought out and I had mixed reactions. My sons Grilled cheese was perfect and he loved it. He is picky, so that was a relief. I also liked that they had mustard on the tables. He always has mustard with his grilled cheese (not sure why), so that was good. I had the Smash Fries. They are basically fries with some thyme on them. I like the flavor but the texture was an issue. Mine were rubbery and I could tell then spent a little time under the warmer. Not good. They also brought out fries after a while becuase they claimed the fries that my son had were cold. I suppose they were, but why would they serve them if they were cold??? The fried pickles were fine. The burger was ok. There was the right amount of toppings. Nothing was over powering. I pinched off a bit of the beef to see if it was frozen like I thought. It turns out, it was frozen at one point. I was not happy. The fries are marginal. All in all, not impressed. Maybe I would go back to see if it was a fluke. Sometimes you go to a place and decide it was so bad you will never go back. I am not there yet with this place. I will give them another chance. They have the building blocks of a decent place, so maybe they will get there. I would have given two stars, but the value is pretty decent. The prices are fair and the tea is good.

I'm a little biased in my review and have already eaten smashburger and really like it. I was surprised to see a location opening in my old hometown of Louisville. This runs in the same class as Five Guys or Red Robin. Gourmet burgers is the name I've given it. Smashburger has always been the less greasy alternative to the other two but this location was pretty bad on the grease for both my sweet potato fries and all American burger. About on the same level as five guys grease. The sweet potato fries are my favorite thing here. Best I've ever had and that include all the places in DFW that offer those. I don't think Louisville has any competition in that area. The location is a little hidden but convenient on the corner of hurstbourne and shelbyville. This gonna run about $9 for burger, fries, and coke so keep that in mind. But I recommend this place.

I love hamburgers and will pay a premium for a good - great burger. This was the worst "upscale" fast food style burger I've had in Louisville. Greasy , greasy, greasy. Employees nice service was quick because there were only 2 customers in there @ 7:30 pm. Sweet potato fries so-so. Big waste of money. Five Guys has nothing to worry about. I hear they have fantastic milkshakes made with HagenDas that cost $3-$4.. they should be good. I will never go back.

Good, but not great. Burger (egg bun, ketchup, cheddar and onions) was delicious but a little greasy. Fries were disappointing and bland. Fried pickles were good except for the solid chunk of breading we found. The kids' grilled cheese was almost burnt.

There was a decent line when i arrived, but things went quick. The Order takers where polite and knowledgeable of the menu. The seating is limited, but the table seemed to turn over pretty quick so i don't see it being a problem. They have the Best black bean veggie burger I've ever had. It wasn't the normal frozen microwaved patty most places have, it was made fresh, decent size, and tasted great. The fried pickles are also some of the best I've had, and the Chocolate malt tasted like a malt instead of a shake like most places.

Excellent black bean burger. One of the best I've had. Prices are a little high though.

Overall OK. I had the classic and we split the Smash fries and some fried dill pickles. The pickles were really good, the smash fries not my cup of tea. Overall the burger was good, but 5 guys has nothing to worry about. IMHO for a good burger at responsible prices, go to 5 guys instead, if your craving fried dill pickles in a hurry, go to Smash burger.

  • Derek A.

Pretty good joint, but prices are little to steep for what you get. My wife and I both got sandwiches, we spent over $20; that's pretty pricey for glorified fast food. The reason? Burgers aren't served with fries and adding a slice cheese cost extra. It's these little add-ons that drive the prices up. Other than that, no complaints! Good, fresh food and quality service. Do yourself a favor: drink water and share an order of fries.

Home Run Burger's, watch out, here is your competition! We first found Smashburger when we lived in Phoenix. I had forgotten about them over the last two years but when I found them at the corner of Shelbyville and Hurstbourne, we had to try it again. Their unique style of ordering is fun and the cashiers at the counter are well trained and well versed in their menu. With a warming welcome and asking if we had ever been there before, it was a nice touch to break themselves away from the normal fast food counters where the people tend to look miserable. There was a real pride in the employee's face about where she worked. The uniforms of all the employees were well kept and clean and there was no grease or dirt on the counters which for sure granted this place an "A" from the Board of Health. After ordering, the cashier wanted to remind me that all beef was cooked medium well to well done. Fine by me knowing that it was a Smashburger. We took our number, found a table that was immaculately clean and then we went to the fountain for our wide array of sodas and teas. The tea dispensers were quite impressive with their bright colors and clear container-ing. We waited and then our fresh food came. The server ask us if we were happy and we were. Throughout our meal we were asked at least one more time, this time by the GM if everything was okay and we were always greeted with a smile. It is nice to find this in a short order type establishment. My burger was perfect with all the correct toppings and my wife's chicken sandwich was cooked to perfection and not dry at all. The Smashburger fries were equally as good and I sure no one wanted to smell our breath but the tastes were well worth it. Thanks for the great meal and low prices. I was surprised to see so many people eating there, but with the economy the way it is, Smashburger has become a great alternative to fine dining. It doesn't matter where you eat, it only matters who you are eating with.

I visited this place twice recently. First time I asked for a light on the sauce cheeseburger cut in half. The burger was heavy on the sauce, no cheese although I paid for it, & it was not cut in half. The second time I ordered sweet potato fries, paid, then realized I wasn't charged for the fries. Immediately told the cashier who told me I had to wait till she finished with the order she was taking. By the time she finished with that order 5 minutes later, they were bagging my food. She said I would have to wait while they cooked the fries. So I left without them. She could have turned around & told the cook to make the fries when I first noticed the error but she didn't. I went there mainly for the sweet potato fries but did not want my other food to get cold. Cashier didn't even apologize. Probably won't go back because of the bad service. Food was OK.

MR says ... is there one in Cincinnati?

Smashburger is surprisingly yummy! Great sweet potato fries, try them Smash style with olive oil and rosemary! I like their multigrain bun, slightly healthier option.

A la carte menu. But satiating. Closer to home.

The food is horrible and over priced. The fried veggies were just limp veggies soaked in oil. Gross!
