Louvino was an enjoyable experience with the food being slightly better than the wine. The ambiance of the place is incredible with long wooden floors, raised ceilings and plush benches along the wall. We had the bacon wrapped dates, and I think they might be the best in Louisville! Additionally, we ordered the brussel sprout salad, mac n' cheese and chicken fried tacos. All of these dishes were incredibly unique and flavorful aside from the mac n' cheese which was simply 'ok'. Our service was a little slow, but he never messed anything up and was knowledgeable about the menu and wine. One problem with this place is how loud the restaurant is. The only thing diffusing sound in the room are the benches, so it sounds like your hanging out in a huge elevator with everyones conversations bleeding into one another. I chose the Pitino's Pinot sampler and loved the cheese pairing more than the wines. Two of them had an effervescent quality, like c02 was mixed in with them. It was like someone topped off a good wine with a little San Pellegrino. Wasn't digging that. Maybe I know little about Pinot's or maybe it was just an off selection for my palette. However, my girlfriend ordered the Muhammad Ali sampler of Cabernet blends that were much silkier, smooth and had much lower acidity. They were all nice. None the less, I'll likely be back. The decor is great, the food was very good and I'm honestly fine with cheap wine samplers.

Definitely make reservations, but you must have a party of 5+ to do so, otherwise the wait could be long. We waited for over an hr on the patio with drinks, then ordered apps to tide us over and the manager comped them since our wait was so long! That was big in my book! We each ordered a small plate for meat and a side and sampled everything, which I loved! Even though it's small plates you still get satisfied. Service was fast and the wine flights were great! I'll def be back! I recommend: duck fat frites, marinated steak, Brussel sprout salad and mushroom risotto were my faves!

Wonderful little tapas place. We enjoyed great service, delicious wines, and perfect food. Some recommendations: (1) Do a wine flight. They're heavy pours and involve some really tasty wines. (2) Don't bother with the cheese pairing with the wine flight for an extra $2. They're the tiniest little portions of cheese you've ever seen and it's not really worth it. (3) Try the scallops. Always try the scallops in a place like this. Yum. (4) The Brussels sprouts salad is another fantastic dish. Eat and be merry. The only con I have to offer is that some of the tables are VERY close together and don't really offer any privacy.

I went to LouVino the day after it opened and I was very impressed. The atmosphere was great along with the food and wine! We all got flights of wine with cheese and a bunch of their small plates. We had no complaints about the food and I've been meaning to get back to try more! Only downfall of LouVino is that they do not have a full bar. I think they are considering this though from what I heard. Also, our server was pretty average. I said I liked a "dry" Chardonnay and he told me that's not how you describe Chardonnay...

First impressions are everything. Unfortunately, our first impression left us irritated and unwilling to return to Louvino. I called the restaurant at 6p to get on the list for 7p dinner. Per the Louvino website and the young woman on the phone, they do not accept reservations, but they do offer call ahead seating. When I spoke to the young woman on the phone, she said could put us on the list for 7p, but acknowledged the possibility for a wait. When I called there was no wait. Since we live in the area, we decided to walk on up to avoid the wait if possible. When we arrived at 6:30, there were empty 2- and 4-top tables. No one was waiting for a table. The young woman at the reception desk said there were people on the list ahead of us and we would have to wait. I was confused because I was under the impression they did not take reservations, nor did they offer priority seating -- just call ahead to get a name on the list if there was a wait. So we wait. And we wait. We watch a number of groups pass in front of us to be seated, many of which appeared to be friends of the folks at the reception desk. In the meantime, the young woman at the reception desk was joined by another young woman. They shared a conversation and frequently looked at my partner and I as we wait (and waited) for a table. More people were sat as we stood waiting. After 35 minutes (it was now after 7p), I walked up to the desk and asked where we were on the list. She said we were "next" then looked around and said "but it doesn't look like anyone is finishing soon." Off put by the service, we took our celebration dinner to another Highlands restaurant -- Loop 22, where we ordered drinks (we needed two strong ones!), appetizers (yes, plural), and entrees. Glad we were able to support one restaurant in the Highlands, since we won't be going back to Louvino.

What a great spot for an impromptu date night. Being our first time I usually search out the owner or manager and ask how's business and what's your most popular menu item. Chad the owner without hesitation said Fried chicken taco, Tater tots, Brussel sprouts. We had the chicken and tots..WOW what wonderful flavors. Added the Jennifer Lawrence and George Clooney flights and server Tiffany completed our most wonderful first visit. Being in our hood we look forward to our return.

Sunday jazz brunch provides a small menu of delicious items to share and fabulous music to enjoy. Everyone come out and support this new restaurant. The menu is small plates only so be prepared to share a variety of delicious dishes. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Today's jazz was provided by CarlyJohnson. I just want to stay all morning, eat and listen!!

Stop whatever you're doing and go to Louvino right now! It's not open right now? Then wait. It's that good.

Enjoyed trying out this place tonight. Since our group had reservations, we didn't have to wait. Great place to taste some wines! I really enjoyed the Lewis and Clark White wine flight. They have varying price ranges and a variety of wines, craft beers, and bourbons, as well as small dishes. The pretzel and beer cheese and oysters were a hit at our table. Service was friendly and helpful. Only complaint was that even at 8:30-9 at night, it was hot in there. They did have fans going but not sure the AC was working right. Will be going back again!

I had been wanting to try this place ever since their opening and finally went Friday night with a friend. Was happy to see there was not a wait at 7pm and several tables available, but we opted to sit at the bar, which was not crowed at all. The decor is very well done and there is a nice, festive energy about the restaurant. The bartender was attentive and service was fast, and a nice selection on the wine menu. Everything great so far! The food presentation is picture pretty and interesting choices are listed on the one page menu. My friend started with the Brussels sprout salad, which I tasted. Tasty flavors and pretty spicy, which I didn't expect. She liked it a lot. I tried the bacon wrapped dates. They were just ok...I like Mojitos version much better. Next my friend order the octopus, which I think was a special for the night. I reluctantly tried and was surprised it was delicious in a teriyaki tasting sauce and my favorite taste of the evening. I had wanted to try the hot brown meatballs which is listed on the menu online, but it was not on the menu that night. So instead, I ordered the petit filet. When asked, the bartender said it was delicious and the best bargain in town at $14.50. Well, I have to say I disagree. I found it flavorless and although the menu says it comes with some petite veggies, if they were on the plate I guess I mistakenly thought it was a garnish they were so petite, and can't even say what it was. Again, Mojitos version is sooo much better than this! I had heard so many good things about the food here, that it was hard not to be disappointed about that part of the evening. I will come back again and order differently next time and hopefully find a favorite here. By the time we left that evening, the place had filled up nicely (unlike my stomach)! And although the price of my wine and tapas was comparable to most dinners out I have, I definitely went home a lot more hungrier than usual. Still, a nice experience which I will try again.

I went to LouVino to celebrate my birthday this past weekend. I can say one thing: I'll probably never go back. I was highly disappointed and left feeling like I just paid money for nothing. I have to say its top 5 of the most unpleasant dining experiences I've had. Why you ask? THE CONS: The service: was okay at best .. the staff aren't very friendly That atmosphere: dark and boring. The music could have been more lively. Tables by the window were cold and drafty. Other patrons weren't friendly either. Not a good vibe given off. The food: pretentious, overpriced and bland. For tapas, I was expecting small plates of highly flavored, endorphin releasing, grub. Food wasn't seasoned. Didn't like the presentation. I had the Fried Chicken Tacos, Sweet Potato cake, and tasted the lamb. All I would have sent back if I didn't want to be a hassle. THE PROS: Louvino is a great spot to bring a date, or a group of people you want to impress. The wine flights are good, and I like the Louisville Theme. THE VERDICT: Food at Louvino= boring and bland Atmosphere= suave and sexy but played out. Service= eh.. Eat there are your own risk.

Great place for a date or hang out with friends. Their wine selection is outstanding and we enjoyed their tapas-style menu. Brussels-sprouts were amazing, although the Louisiana chicken tacos were not. Great ambience and although price-wise a little on the higher end, I think in terms the value is outstanding. Sure will be back!

Tried Louvino for the first time with some friends after work. We arrived around 930 and asked for food menus and wine pairings for the food we were planning to order. Some of our friends were running late so we waited to order. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgable about the wine but once our friends had arrived and we were ready to eat our waiter told us the kitchen had closed. He did not warn us beforehand that their kitchen closes at 10 despite the restaurant being open till 12 and we were left with empty stomachs and full glasses of wine to drink. He apologized and gave us two gift cards after we threw some considerable shade. The wine was delicious but now I must go back to try the food **before 10** But because the waiter handled the incident so well I will definitely try again!

Five stars easy for a casual experience. Good food, wine, atmosphere and staff! Had the BLT, today's special, fried chicken tacos and bacon wrapped dates. All good dishes. Tried the Muhammad Ali wine flight with cheese. Good flight! Make this a destination! Great start or end to your evening!

Went on their first Friday of being open, and while there were the normal glitches of a first-week restaurant, this was still a really promising place. Wine selection and flights were terrific. Small plates were delicious, especially the loaded tater tots, hot brown mac and cheese and duck confit flat bread. Chocolate beignets for dessert we're amazing. Really looking forward to when this place has it all figured out. For now, it's a really fun wine bar with tasty small plates and an excellent atmosphere. Great start.

I finally was able to try Louvino this past Saturday, and I already can't wait to go again! I went with two girlfriends and we loved everything about this place--the wine flights were wonderful, the food portions generous and well prepared, and the desserts were delicious! All of the food was amazing, but some of our favorites were the short rib mac & cheese, the grilled oysters, the Brussels sprouts and the chocolate chip cookie beignets. We were just a party of three so we couldn't make a reservation; however, the hostess gave us one of the tables in the front window as we arrived early and they were not seating it until 8 p.m. If you haven't been here already, you simply MUST make it a point to go soon.

This is my new favorite. The food is excellent and the wine flights are fun! My husband will try anything from this place (even things he normally would not eat) because it is all perfection. The ambiance of the restaurant is perfect. There is a secluded area you can reserve if you want some privacy.

Wonderful. Went on a Wednesday night, no wait. Service was personable and informative. Three girls. We all got different flights all were amazing. I am doing a paleo type diet and got the Brussel sprout salad and mussels which were great. Friends got the pretzel and port cheese, bacon wrapped dates, short rib Mac and cheese and chicken fries tacos. All fabulous. They got dessert, beignets and salted caramel. Delicious again. We each got another glass of wine after the flight,I had a glass of an amazing lifts but dry red from Greece. We will be back!!!

Wow, the flavor in these dishes POP off the plate! We started with loaded baked potato tots and the smoked Gouda hot brown mac and cheese. The tots were were perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Mac and cheese left us speechless! I ordered a beef slider and shrimp and grit cakes, both packed with flavor. My wife had a Brussels sprout salad and steak and jalapeño hoe cake. We shared bites and both agreed we couldn't decide what we liked best. When a few other places have recently opened on Btown road to mixed reviews, this place is a winner all around. The grand finale of our meal was the beignet dessert which I highly recommend. I'm definitely excited to go back soon.

Loved loved loved the food BUT the noise level was so loud my friend and I had to shout to each other. It wasn't bad when we first got there because the place wasn't full but once it filled up the noise really made for an unpleasant dining experience. The decor is really cool but I think they made a huge mistake when this place was designed. All hard surfaces...nothing to absorb the sound. I hope the owners consider installing sound absorbing panels or something to help with this. I really would love to bring my family here but it's impossible to carry on a conversation when the restaurant is full. If it weren't for that I definitely would've given it 5 stars because the food was amazing! My friend and I shared the bacon wrapped dates with Stilton cheese, the marinated steak, the smoked Gouda Mac and cheese, and the warm Brussels sprouts salad. Everything was cooked to perfection and so delicious. We shared the chocolate chunk beignets for dessert. They are the size of donut holes and the only complaint I had about those were the fact they only give you three. They came with vanilla bean anglaise for dipping. Amazing! I would love to make this place a regular spot to eat but am hesitant because of the noise level. So hoping something is done about that.

The food was really very good, but our service was not.....no one told us about any specials, which we found out later that it was offered.....plates came out one at a time, with long waits between....not good when you are sharing.....and the noise was deafening.......my companion won't go back because of that!

We met up with a friend for a post-holiday dinner. We were excited to try out this new wine bar in the hot Highlands neighborhood. The restaurant features wine flights, and "small plates". They have a decent by-the-glass program and a varied and interesting wine list. The "small plates" change seasonally. My friend and I ordered flights to start --they feature 2 ounce pours and are a great way to sample the nuances different winemakers bring to the craft. We ordered about 5 small plates (which was actually too much food for 3 people)--the food was flavorful, interesting and hearty. The server had said the food went better with red wines and I understood why as we ate--big flavors, suitable for the wintery evening. We ordered a bottle of wine to go with our meal. We decided to do dessert, so a sparkling wine flight was ordered, along with a port. The dessert was a bit disappointing--was billed as beignets, but was actually tiny fried balls of dough stuffed with chocolate chips--sweet and bland. The bill came to $133 and hubby included a $30 tip. Not inexpensive for 3 people, but we were feeling well fed and happy. We closed out the bill and had lingered for about 10 minutes when the server came over and informed us that the 7:45 reservation had arrived and "we need this table". It was 7:38. We gathered our things and left promptly. . .and we will not be back. I'm not sure exactly when restaurants decided this was okay, but its not and it has left a really bad taste in my mouth. Had this been handled more diplomatically this would be a glowing review, instead I am warning folks about how rudely we were treated. I noticed that on their webpage they are promoting their Valentine's dinner and they say there is a "two hour time limit" on each table. Perhaps they should just make that a standard for every day, to avoid confusion and hurt feelings. This is NOT a place to go if you want to linger.

I came in with a party of 10 that became a party of 12 - generally a server's worst nightmare, and something I really hate to do - on a pretty busy night. Our server did an incredible job getting us food and drinks, recommending wines to us, and keeping us watered. I had the sautéed octopus and it took all my self control not to inhale it, it was amazing. Also really enjoyed the Tempranillo and a Pinot noir. This will definitely become a favorite spot for special gatherings with my friends.

This may be my new favorite place! Every single plate was delicious. We tried scallops, wings, frites, duck flatbread, and each of us tried a different wine flight with tastes of cheese! My favorite of the night is a toss up: either the loaded potato tots or the chocolate benets. The atmosphere is lovely, the service was awesome. My best piece of advice is to go with a few other people so you can try a bunch of things! I am so happy this new gem is in my neighborhood. I will be walking over for a glass of wine and a bite often.

It was a beautiful night in Louisville, we scored a table outside at a restaurant we've been wanting to try. Our waiter seemed nice enough, but when the table next to us was seated their server ran through the menu in detail, informed them of specials, recommended the appropriate number of items to order, etc. Wait, there were specials?! The ancient grains caprese salad was good. A bit too much dressing and a portion not quite worth $9 in my opinion, but good. The scallops and spaghetti squash was steaming hot, but holy seasoning. Waaaayyyyy too much oil, salt, butter, everything. Oil dripping over the side of my plate. Luckily, this seemed to be relegated only to the squash, so I was able to enjoy my two plain steaming hot scallops without further complaint. $11. Oh, I forgot to mention that this was basically thrown across the table at us by a runner who didn't wait for our answer to whose dish it was. My husband faired much better with the lobster and greens salad and chicken wings. The wings were really good; meat-falling-off-the bone-good. But again, the salad and coleslaw were way over dressed. Good seasoning, just way too much of it. We just moved to Louisville a few weeks ago, but there are a half a dozen restaurants I would return to before Louvino. For the price, I expect better service and more temperately seasoned food.

Delicious wine bar featuring a in-depth wine list, tasty tapas and knowledgeable/professional servers, bartenders and staff. Sophisticated, incredibly cool atmosphere and the perfect addition to Bardstown Road. Come to celebrate a special event, an evening out with your loved one or just for some quality happy hour fun. The cost on the final bill might sneak up on you, but just about everything on the food menu (not to mention the drink menu) is a winner. Can't wait for my next visit...

I am a visitor from Florida and really enjoyed our dinner here! My friend and I shared the recommended sliders and loaded tator tots. I was very impressed by the food and wine choices! The sliders were so tasty! I don't even like onions but ate the entire slider; caramelized onions and all! The tator tots were the most unique simple idea turned gourmet I have seen in a while. I got the George Clooney flight and the pours were generous. The filtered tap water tasted as if it was $10 bottled water. My friend and I also enjoyed the atmosphere. Whenever I come visit again I would definitely come back!

I'm a fan of this place for sure! Love the wine selections and décor. A bit on the small side and seating stinks. It's the type of place, where if you are only 2 people, you are you going to be seated wicked close to the folks next to you, as in maybe 6 inch separation between tables. That's disappointing because wine and small plates are usually conducive to serious chat time, but you're neighbor is either all in your conversation or all you can hear is their conversation. lol. The small plates are fantastic, some better than others but all worth trying, to each their own. If they took out a few tables and made it more spacious that would be amazing, but they would also be removing potential for more money so totally understand.

This place is awesome! Five stars all around. The concept is so fun. A wine bar serving small plates. There's tons of wine to chose from, and flights of three wines if you're having trouble with your decision. Here's generally how the small plates work: Dishes are grouped into sections on the menu (snacks, seafood, meat, veggies, sweets). You pick as many plates as you want. You could order a plate or two as your own personal meal, but these are meant to be shared. For two people, I'd recommend at least three plates. You can order one at a time as you sip wine, or all at once. The whole experience is really neat and unique for Louisville. Since we caught happy hour, and glasses of wine were $2 off, I had a glass of Riesling. It was refreshing, and I'm looking forward to trying a wine flight. The food is phenomenal. Each dish is flavorful and well-prepared. It's the kind of place where you know there isn't a bad thing on the menu. For my first visit, I tried the loaded tater tots, chicken fried tacos, and the chocolate beignets. OMG everything was mouth-gasm good. The tater tots are large balls stuffed with cheese and bacon and served with homemade ranch. The chicken tacos combine mashed potatoes, gravy, fried chicken, and cheese into a tortilla. Pure down-home goodness. The beignets are a must-try. They're light, fluffy, sugary and stuffed with chocolate. You dip them in a vanilla sauce, and they're absolutely heavenly. To note: After three plates between two ladies, I left filling satisfied but not overindulged. Still, I could've handled one more savory plate without hitting that "stuffed" point. Louvino is one of my new favorite spots in the city. The atmosphere, wine, food, and service is outstanding. It's perfect for a date night or a girls night. I especially love it for girls nights, as my girls nights usually involve wine, and women tend to embrace the smaller, shareable portions. The only negatives I experienced can be overlooked by the positives, but I will note them in case it's helpful. Louvino is pricey. With the plates ranging from $6-$15, and wine starting at $8 a glass, the bill can really add up. To me, the food justifies the price. Keep in mind, these are high quality, fresh, gourmet-level small plates. You can keep the bill reasonable if you select carefully and hold back a little (it's tempting to order plate after plate). Also, the dining room is pretty small and packed full of tables. This does provide a cozy, intimate setting. However, most of the tables are extremely close to each other, and you could feel like you're sitting with the table next to you. Again, these downfalls are far outweighed by Louvino's greatness. Give Louvino a try. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait to go back!

Louvino blew away my expectations for dining out in Louisville. We split nearly every plate on the menu, and each one featured a new taste and perfect plating. From the popcorn to the seafood to the meat to the dessert, our party devoured every dish and ensured our collective entrances into the clean plate club. In addition to the food, the $15 wine flights (with a small upcharge for cheese) paired almost as well as the cheap (and generous) pours of bourbon. Our party of five didn't wait more than twenty minutes for a table in a packed house. If you're in the area, Louvino is a destination.

Excellent service. Daniel is a very attentive server and was so knowledgeable about the menu. Made great recommendations and was patient and thorough helping me find numerous options for my paleo nutrition needs. Big fan of the slider (I had no bun but the bread looked good). The peppers that accompany it are a great touch. The scallop was cooked very well. The petite filet needed a lot of salt. It was cooked well but very under flavored. Brussels sprouts were great. Obviously a Robust wine selection too. Disclaimer I am conceptually opposed to small plate restaurants. The concept of paying twice as much for half the amount of food and still leaving hungry or needing a real dinner later beats me.

I just tried Louvino for the first time last week, and I'm already in love. The space is really great. It's small, but full of seating. The décor is nice, and along with the rest of the restaurant it screams Louisville and Kentucky, with photos of Muhammad Ali and Jennifer Lawrence on the walls. The food and drink is on the Kentucky train as well, with wine flights named after notable Kentucky individuals. I enjoyed the Jennifer Lawrence flight, three 2 ounce pours of crisp, sweet, bubbly whites. You can also choose to add a cheese pairing to your wine for $2, but I skipped that in favor of ordering some of the delicious small plates from the menu. I had the warm German pretzel with beer cheese, fried chicken tacos, pumpkin whoopie pies, and chocolate chunk cookie beignets. Everything was delicious! Especially the beignets. You get three in an order, but believe me that I'm not exaggerating when I say I could have eaten a dozen of them. There are about ten more items on the menu I'm interested in trying, so this definitely won't be my last visit! They also had a sign out front for $10 bottomless mimosas with an entrée purchase on Sundays. I checked out the brunch menu and it sounds fabulous! I'm going to be trying out that deal as soon as possible. I highly recommend Louvino. I can't wait to go back myself!

It has taken us awhile to get to Louvino. I love the concept and love the menu! We especially love that the have a small dog friendly patio and that has becomes a make or break point for us in the non-winter months. They manage a lot of seats in a relatively medium sized space but it does not feel cramped. The atmosphere and staff were professional and top notch. The crowd was a fun mix and we had a nice conversation with the table next to us through out the evening. We had some great rating food. (I just add photos versus describing them all as it is a tapas restaurant and we had a few dishes.) Overall a nice experience and a nice meal!

Omg AMAZING!!!! If you like trending, cool and fun then this is the place. All dishes are small tapas size, so you can order a variety. It has been quite a while since I had been to a place where not only the food, drinks and atmosphere were all on Fleek. Some of my favorite dishes were the loaded tots, Cajun crab cakes, and fired chicken tacos (best ever). I can't wait to go back!

Great location, delicious food and lots of wine selections. I give three stars based on value...I have been here several times and I think it is pricey. I typically spend lat least $40 on just a few drinks, one "small plate" and possibly a salad, even when trying to be frugal. Everything is a la carte and they do not bring any bread etc. to the table. I wish they had an affordable wine by the glass, $8 is the cheapest Cab I saw for Dreaming Tree which is very fruity and light for a Cab, meh. Better glasses go for $15- $23 a pop and can get expensive. It is very difficult for me to see all the great wines and have to resist excess temptation based on price or else end up spending a fortune. Also, no happy hour at all. The small plates are not big enough to really fill you up but the dates wrapped in bacon are very, very good. I also like the mini slider burgers. I had the mixed greens salad with goat cheese recently and it was it delicious. I must mention that the bartender lady is really amazing, she is one of the best in the city. I think her name is Stacy. Overall, I recommend highly for quality but bring lots of money if you plan to have more than one glass of wine. I really do like Louvino but hate that I always break my budget here and leave a little hungry, then end up with buyer's remorse later in the evening.

Went during the happy hour. $2 off wines and Snacks and $1 off brews. Fried chicken tacos were out of this world. Super tender and flavorful, they fell apart in my mouth like Jean van de Velde at the 1999 Open Championship.

My celebration go-to place has become Louvino. With the ability to have wine flights inspired from KY locals coupled with cheese, and the ability to share your dishes, Louvino is a great place to go with a group. As a vegetarian, I'm quite appreciative of the tasty and plentiful veggie options and the yummy desserts. I can't wait for our next celebration to go back and try out the seasonal menu!

I love LOUVINO; the wine and the food. There is some bourbon, too, for you non-wine drinking bourbon drinkers. Everything we had was delicious: Bacon Wrapped Dates Fried Chicken and mashed potato tacos (YUM! They are lightly battered) Scallops, with pasta, were perfectly seasoned. My husband and son loved the shrimp and grit cakes (I don't eat shrimp, but it was beautifully presented, as all the dishes were.) My GOSH! The Brussels Sprouts dish was delicious! And, a healthy serving. The chocolate chunk beignets...let's just say, 'I wish I didn't have to share them.' All this with wine, made for a great meal. The staff was very friendly, from the hostesses, to the bartender (we ended up eating at the bar, which was great. Keep in mind it is a small space.), and the food servers. They serve small plates/tapas. Order and share. It is all good.

I'm a huge fan of Louvino. I came here for the second time and very much enjoyed the experience. I like the whole sip on wine and enjoy the small plates idea so this place is wonderful. My friend and I started with a bottle of wine at the bar as we had a short wait before the table was ready. We only had to wait about 15 minutes on a Friday night, which wasn't bad at all. We both ordered flights and about 4 small plates. We had the tator tots, scallops, fried chicken tacos, and shrimp and grits. All were wonderful and well paced. It's nice that the servers let you pace your own meal/experience as you can order as you go. I finished the meal with a nice glass of Pappy and my friend got the Jennifer Lawrence flight with champagne. I had absolutely no complaints of the night. Great food, great wine, great service, and a great experience. I'll definitely be back.

A wine bar in the Highlands! I am overjoyed. As a lover of wine and small plates, I was beaming when I heard about LouVino opening in my neighborhood. With a concept focusing on small plates and 'big" wines in a chic, modern, yet laid-back environment, local owners Chad and Lauren Coulter hit this one out of the park! The wine menu features several flights cleverly named after local celebrities both past and present. Genius! I started with the Muhammed Ali, and just like their name sake- these 3 red wines were bold and fierce, but kept me coming back for more. . For $1.50 you can have a cheese pairing- and that was a no-brainer. Delicious, smokey cheeses that went beautifully with the vino. My husband started with the Lewis and Clark reds with a cheese pairing. He was a big fan. We started with the bacon wrapped dates stuffed with creamy stilton cheese, topped with fresh arugula salad. AMAZING. These are addictive. Luckily- there were only 4, so I couldn't over-indulge. Next, we order the chef's special which was duck confit poutine. This was my first poutine experience- and I was very impressed. Pomme frittes covered in a light- brown, spicy gravy with cheese curds and duck confit. Rich- yes- but undeniably delicious. After 2 decadent small plates, we moved on to something a bit lighter. I ordered the bright and bubbly Jennifer Lawrence sparkling wine flight and my husband went for the Lewis and Clark white flight to pair with our grilled oysters and mussels. There were 5 grilled oysters of decent size. They had a nice, smokey char without being over-done. The mussels were small, but the sauce was amazing and the garlic toast points on top were salty and yummy. We almost went for a dessert or more wine, but decided to save some things on the menu for our next adventure. It is a perfect environment for people like us, who have outgrown the "bar scene" but enjoy going out for cocktails and sharing food and good conversation. While LouVino is appealing to people of all ages and backgrounds, I found it especially appealing for 30-40 year olds that like exploring new wine and food. Can't wait to go back!

We had our second visit to Louvino last night for date night. We love the casual but still upscale ambiance of this restaurant. My fiance and I share plates all the time and love all of the options. Happy hour is great as well. This trip we tried the loaded tater tots, which were amazing, the crab cakes (a little over cooked/greasy), the caprese/ancient grain salad (balsamic glorious-ness), and the chocolate filled beignets with vanilla creme sauce (so tasty!). My fiance had a Cabernet and I had the Sacha Rosé, both delicious. Our server, forgive me I cannot remember his name, but wore a hat and had a longer beard, was extremely knowledgeable, great personality, and super friendly to get our happy hour picks in before 6:30. Great service, great ambiance, great food :-).

OMG!!! The entire experience is awesome. I cannot believe this is in Louisville. Really!!??? Wow! First of all, our bartender - Danni - is amazing! Eat at the bar if she's working. We had something from every course offering which are small plates. You're going to have the best mouth orgasm you can possibly have in Louisville. Amazing food, amazing service, awesome atmosphere!!! A MUST TRY!

Holy Jesus. This place is AMAZING! Small plates, big wines, awesome staff. Tavis Rockwell and his kitchen crew are true masters of the trade! Each dish is carefully and skillfully crafted-- and full of flavor. With more than 84 wines to choose from and plenty of experts to help you decide, you'll never be left wanting. Louvino's atmosphere is everything and anything you could want. Relaxed, casual, but perfect for a classy first date or GNO. My personal dinner faves are the sliders, Brussel sprout salad (Oh my God delicious), and the chicken tacos. There's plenty of options for vegetarians and the gluten-intolerant. Louvino recently won the honor of Louisville's best new restaurant, for pretty obvious reasons. Try it out. You'll be permanently hooked!

I love Louvino! Although I went with a friend, it's a perfect date spot. Intimate setting, nice wines, and you can order lots of small plates and try everything. If there happens to be a wait, you can stroll around Bardstown Rd and the friendly hostess will text you when your table is ready. To start, we ordered the Loaded Baked Potato Tots. How could you go wrong? I also ordered the Fried Chicken Tacos. Amazing!! Like eating a home-cooked meal at your grandma's house, IN A TACO. I also had the waitress choose a wine for me, I can't remember the name, but she mad a great choice because I enjoyed it. LouVino should definitely be on everyone's "date night" list!

Great place. Nice atmosphere. Little loud because of all the people. Great location off the heart of bardstown road. Food comes out continuously and are little portions, about the size of a small salad plate. Locally owned. Love it.

Just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful dining experience we had at louvino this past week. The food was surprisingly spectacular! Not only was the waitstaff attentive without being overbearing, they were friendly, knowledgeable, and fun, they made the entire experience a memorable one. Word of advice, ask the chef for the off the menu "Lorenzo special" ..... You won't be disappointed!!!

Atmosphere: Trendy, sparkling, and not too posh for jeans. Tables are very close together but somehow, it didn't seem to bother. Service: Friendly, prompt, and though a mistake was made on food, they made it right very professionally. It happens, it's all good. Food: Everyone enjoyed their food, some plates more than others. Presentation is always lovely from what I can see. I'm impressed by their vegetarian-friendly section (even vegan). I highly recommend the warm brussel sprouts salad whose flavors blended, surprised, and finished beautifully. Really well balanced. I did not overly enjoy my sweet potato cakes, the texture and concept were there but they lacked some heat or spice to round out the flavor profile. I'm told the risotto is out of this world. Price: Somewhat affordable for a trendy new spot in Louisville. Alcohol: can't comment, don't drink. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for a date (ours was a double) or a girl's night out.

This wine bar is a go-to place for date night, or a get together with friends. The almonds are my favorite app. The wings are delicious. The scallops and duck fat frites are delicious.

Wow! This place is great! I went for 502 Restaurant Week so the meal was $50.20 for a couple to pick 5 small plates and 1 dessert (this saved us $5-7). I took pictures of all the food we ordered so you can check them out. We started of with flights of wine ($10 each). I got the Jennifer Lawrence and my friend got the Lewis and Clark White. I liked all mine but the second and third were the best. The third, Gancia Moscato, was my friends over all favorite. We both like the first and last wines of the Lewis and Clark best. The first, Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc Viognier was my favorite over all. One of my favorite dishes was the fried chicken tacos (we actually ordered an extra b/c it was so good and we were hungry!) which had mash potatoes, cheddar cheese and gravy! KFC, watch out because Louvino has you beat! My other favorite was the shrimp and grit cake which had crispy country ham, maple syrup and a tinny sunny side up egg. Both of these small dishes were like eating a full meal in a small portion. They had it all! My friends favorite was the pork tenderloin. The brussels sprouts (I was eyeing everyone's brussels sprout salads!) and cauliflower gratin were delicious! Hopefully they will add this to the menu full time. The scallop scampi with roasted tomato, garlic, sherry, capellini, and parmesan and the marinated steak with jalapeño hoe cake and poblano tomato sauce were good. If I had to say which was my least favorite it would be the steak but I would order everything again. For dessert we got the amazing chocolate chip cookie beignets. They were so good! I can't wait until the next time I go! I want to try all the dishes I didn't get to try this first time! We really liked the small dish set up because you get to try so many different things! I hope you give Louvino a try!

We enjoyed our Thursday early evening visit. The atmosphere was casual and comfortable; our waiter was knowledgeable and welcoming. The food was perfect-we savored every bite starting with the brussels sprouts salad, making our way through the steak and oysters and ending with the chocolate chunk beignets. The wine was good too, but I was hungry and more focused on the food! I look forward to getting back to Louvino soon!

Great drinks selection and small plates! Food was fresh and flavorful. Good service. Bring from CA where we have a great wine selection, I can be picky about wine but Louvino's list/selection was just as good as good Bay Area restaurants.

Love the new place! Living nearby, I have walked by every day waiting anxiously for it to open. At last, a coworker and i visited for a flight of wine. The bartenders were super helpful, offering advice on all the pairing options. They explained the menu, how the wine taps (awesome btw) work and were there to answer any question we had. I ordered the market vegetable dish that was quite delicious, though the bartender didn't know what was on it, but it's only the second day so we'll give him a break. My coworker ordered the shrimp and grits dish which she also enjoyed! All of the wine flights are named after people who have a connection to Louisville, Lewis & Clark white wine flight (what I ordered) and the Pitino Pinot flight (what my coworker ordered).

Dinner at the bar on a Saturday night. Place looks great, has wonderful energy, phenomenal location. Clearly Louvino is very well thought out from a business perspective - props to the owner for that. I can also highly recommend the brussel sprout dish, it was amazing. That being said, there are some items that make this a 'probably not again' place: - This is a high class wine bar. The bartender did not represent an employee of a high class wine bar. You could tell he was a hard worker, but lacked a background in wine. Also screwed up one of our food orders and managed to cash out a patron before taking our order while reversing course when we were ready to cash out (thus, serving a patron ahead of us). - The food is a little off. It looks great, don't get me wrong - I was super excited about it and wanted to love it. But it just fell short. Especially the grilled oysters, which have the sauce thrown on after the oysters are already grilled (it doesn't work) and the beer cheese for the pretzels (you could have called it sour cream and no one would have ever questioned you). Also - the way it comes out from the kitchen. Yes, most of it is for sharing - but if I want one thing for the 'main' course, and my date wants something else - it reduces the experience for one of us to eat while the other watches.

This place was amazing. It was uber cool with just the right amount of hip and none of the douchebaggery. The food and wine were amazing. My new favorite spot to chill and eat in Louisville!

It's about time that Louisville got a tried-and-true wine bar, and right in the middle of town! A couple of girlfriends and I went, and I was so impressed. They had fantastic wine lists for every taste, from the most complex and expensive, to the better prices and approachable. The staff was great at answering questions, making recommendations, and checking in. We loved it, and I have zero criticisms. Awesome!

Awesome new place on Bardstown. Refreshing/interesting take on tapas, with a great wine, craft beer and bourbon selection. Sunday brunch is a lot of fun too, live jazz and great Bloody Mary's. I highly recommend it

I went in for a business meeting, reluctantly. I suggested we go really early like right when they open due to the wall of noise that you hit head on when opening the door to enter. I also warned that if in fact it is as loud as other times I had been - we would have to go somewhere else so we could hear each other talk ... Business. Lastly, my business friend had never eaten here. I raved about the food and drink and aesthetic...but groaned about the LOUD NOISE. She said, "let's just try it". Glad we went. They listened to the feedback! Noise barriers have been placed throughout the place. It made ALL the difference in the world. Seriously. The place was jammed packed and we sat at the bar and comfortably conversed without shouting . Brilliant. So, a perfect rating. Hands down the best new joint in town - no doubt. Food drink price point aesthetic and owners that listen to their patrons. Done and done. Highly highly recommend ... Get in there. Often.

Another great experience at Louvino last night. Have to say it's becoming one of my favorites. Two of us plowed through 6 plates, only one (crab cakes) was not up to the very high standards set by the rest of the meal. They weren't bad, just ordinary. Service was perfectly attentive. Skipped the wine this time as my friend doesn't drink wine. We found a perfect whitbier on tap, and thoroughly enjoyed it throughout the meal. Don't miss this place!!

No. No and no! Sunday brunch was expensive, uneventful and so not worth the money. The portions are really small so you order two and then it's too much. The wait staff is not educated and they don't seem to care. It's a wine bar, know something about wines! Won't be back for brunch. Dinner is better and the wine is thoughtful with a lot of good options. The food portions are more reasonable and the wait staff seems better than the Sunday group. The menu changes, but you can count on some things hitting the mark and others falling short. It's OK to push the food envelope, but make sure you keep the taste in the game.

Hot Brown Mac & Cheese. Need I say more? I tried this place out with a friend on a Thursday evening after work. We each had a wine flight (I had the Jennifer Lawrence and she had the Pitino's Pinots) and they were both really wonderful. We each chose a full glass from the flight once we had finished the flights and noshed on several small plates. Our small plates included the stuffed tater tots, hot brown mac and cheese, steak carnitas, and beignets. Everything was mouthwatering good and our waiter was very attentive and helped us choose our flights based on what wines we liked. I've told everyone about this place and can't wait to go back!

Another tapas place, ok fine I'll go but it better be good. Renovation looks great, love the vibe they have going in there. Super loud due to acoustics or maybe that was just the loud groups were were sitting near, pretty sure it was the acoustics. I compare it to Tin Roof while a band is playing, you almost have to yell across the table to be heard. Anyway we are here to eat not talk. Duck Frites were ok, not crisp and a little soggy with grease. What saved the frites was the white truffle aioli. I could have dipped anything in that and said it was good. Pretzel and beer cheese and port cheese was good as well. I prefer the beer cheese she liked the port, which was basically cream cheese from what I could tell. Pretzel was large enough to share but a little too hard in spots. Needless to say that didn't stop us from making it disappear. Confit chicken wings were just ok for me, I think there were 6 so plenty to share just a little too salty for me. Beef slider was excellent only wish there were two instead having to split the one. Hot brown mac n cheese while it sounds interesting was just ok as well. Needs to be less runny and more stick together gooey. The flavors were all there and the portion size was large, but it was just missing something to put it over the top. Obviously the highlight was the chicken taco, i would return just for that alone. Oh that and the dates which they ran out of on our visit, but to be fair it was almost close. Which reminds, they are open til midnight Friday and Saturday but kitchen closes at 10pm. Not a smart move if you ask me, the place was packed when we went at 9:30. Maybe just for summer extend kitchen hours or have a late night menu. We enjoyed all the different flavors we got to try here and will definitely be back. Really interested to see their spin on Sunday brunch. We didn't have the wine, but the flights are a great idea and reasonably priced.

A few weeks ago I celebrated my big 3-0 with a girls night at Louvino. We had a GREAT time! Our server was very attentive (although a little distracted at times and often looked rushed - he tried). I was a little worried about space with a group of 8 but we made a reservation and I loved our little window table. It was the perfect size and great place to catch up with friends. I love all the wine selections and the names of the flights. Our group opted for 4 different types of flights and then each also ordered a glass from each afterwards. I highly recommend the "Pitino's Pinots" or "The Diane Sawyer" :) We ordered several small plates to share. The Loaded Bakes Potato Bites were Ah-Mazing!!! They were crispy and loaded with gooey-carb-goodness. If you are looking for a substantial plate opt for the fried chicken tacos. The chicken strips were huge and the garlic aoli mashed potatoes made it feel like Sunday dinner is a flour tortilla. For dessert (because of course we needed wine, food and dessert) we shared the Chocolate Chunk Beignet and vanilla ice cream. I didn't think I could take another bite but every struggled spoon-raising was worth it. I would highly recommend Louvino for after work drinks, dinner with friends, or just a glass of wine to unwind from the day. I can't wait to go back and try Sunday brunch!

I dined at Louvino with a group of girlfriends for Ladies Night. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered several dishes and sampled each other's choices. I didn't try one thing that I didn't like. I think the frites may have been the group favorite among the appetizers we ordered. My chicken tacos (that included mashed potatoes, yum!) were fantastic. The dessert was amazing as well. I'm a fan of sweeter wines, so I enjoyed the Jennifer Lawrence flight. Louvino is a little on the pricey side, but I've found that to be true of most tapas restaurants in Louisville. Parking can be a little tight even though they have a lot around back, so be prepared for that (it is Bardstown Road, after all). Overall, it was a great experience and perfect for a special date or fun night out with friends.
