Fun find using Yelp on an overnight stay in Louisville. Music, lots of music, greeted us as we arrived at the front door which we learned goes on every Thursday night. Don't miss this as the musicians are full of talent and willing to share. Oh yes, food. Had the four square pizza and anti pasta salad. Split both two ways and had plenty for our senior appetites. By the next day we were several hundred miles away, but would have returned to try the pasta dishes so now it's up to you!

I have been wanting to check this place out since it opened, but I could never bring myself to venture out to Jtown when there's so much good pizza close by. I'm glad I made the journey, especially since I was able to learn what Detroit-style pizza is. I didn't even know that style of pizza was a thing. Though the atmosphere is a little lackluster and the outdoor seating area leaves more than a little to be desired, the food is terrific. We started out with the beer-battered pickle spears. They were crispy all over and paired nicely with the jalapeño ranch sauce that comes standard with the order. We ordered two four squares for our party of four. We could've used just a little more. We opted for the pound for pound and the great white without chicken. This vegetarian could've eaten the entire four square! We finished off the meal with limoncello cake and tiramisu. While I've had much better tiramisu, the limoncello cake, which was the consistency of cheesecake, was amazing. I found it a little odd that they were out of two menu items - fried cheese appetizer and the cannoli. They must be two of their best offerings.

Okay, this pizza is freakin' delicious and I never thought I'd say that about anything that spawned in Detroit. The pizza is square, with a reasonably thick crust. The cheese burns and crisps around the edges, very similar to Chicago-style pizza. Their beer menu is extensive as well. I loved their margherita-style pizza. That pizza, with a glass of wine, comes to less than $20 and I have leftovers. Unfortunately, not all of their pizzas are such a great value. I feel like their specialty pizzas are pretty high for the size that you get. I could go to Mellow Mushroom and get a pizza nearly twice the size for the same price. I will definitely be back, as they are close to my house and I love their food, but not as regularly as I might like to if the prices were lower.

This place has very good pizza. Detroit style pizza isn't really anything many people are excited to try, but it's like deep dish Chicago pizza. Occasionally Mr. Grisanti will still guest chef here, if you're a fan of Ferd Grisanti's (the restaurant that used to inhabit the space). There's a huge crowd on Thursdays when they have a live band, the age group is a bit older than my crowd, though. There isn't a ton of outdoor seating but it is rarely used so you can get a spot. It's delicious pizza, though!! And it'll fill you right up!

Loui Loui's is a wonderful place to meet up with family and friends for a casual meal. The environment is lovely, above and beyond my expectations. For appetizers, I HIGHLY recommend the arancni.... Delish!!! Our waitress and the rest of the staff were super nice :) the only problem I had was that the chef -assumed- (for some reason) that I didn't want sauce on my custom pizza b/c it was covered in vegetables. They gave me a side dish with it though.... However, I thought it was very silly to assume that when I ordered, ya know, a pizza. They could have asked.

This is the real thing! I am from Detroit. Their style pizzas have special combination of cheeses and the sauce is made from Midwestern tomatoes (not as sweet). The combination is perfect. This is this first time I have had it outside of Detroit. The pizza here is as good as the originals!

I had the meatballs appetizer and they were great. The sauce was just ok. The drinks were good. Prices a little on the high side for the area. I ordered Tiramisu and the waiter came back to tell me that it was frozen! A italian-esque establisment with frozen Tiramisu! The nerve. Will only go back in if in the area. I really want to try the pizza.

This place is excellent! I've never had a pizza like this...basically, the put any flat meat underneath the cheese, bake it in a hot pan and it develops a crispy edge to the crust. You could say it's like a flatbread but a little thicker. The 4 piece is hearty enough to feed two with an average appetite. The 8 piece can feed 2 monsters like myself and someone comparable. The flavor was great, perfect texture and great service!

My daughter wanted pizza and we both wanted to try something new. Only thing to do was to type in pizza and search in Yelp. We came across this place and decided to eat here since it had far better ratings than most of the other places nearby. We were far from disappointed. The decor is great and has a wonderful interior. Very welcoming and very clean. It was so clean that it made me feel like they had just opened for business. After checking in on Yelp, I saw that Loui Loui's offered a $1 off any 4 square pizza, so bonus points for that and we were already growing pretty fond of the place. My daughter and I had the cheese sticks. Seriously some of the best cheese sticks around. I thought about taking one to a nearby table and making them try it. So good. We split a 4 square pizza. My daughter opted for plain cheese because that is just how she rolls. On my half, I added bacon. Didn't get too crazy with it and will save that for the return trip with my wife. They have some really great looking custom pizzas and I fully intend on trying more. The pizza was some of the best I have had. My daughter said it was the "best on planet Earth" and can still tell you how it was cooked. Service wasn't just friendly. It was an example of how service should be everywhere. From the person that said hello and seated us to the person at the door smiling when we left. Never had to ask for anything but they didn't hover either. Kinda like that not too cold but not too hot type of thing. It was just right. We left thinking how awesome it was to find a new place that we had not tried before and look forward to making this a frequent stop. Not to mention our bill was just under $20.

First time here and we'll be back. Good food and good service plus happy hour pricing on drinks. The meatballs were great. I loved the bakes ricotta. The pizza is good - great ingredients! They gave us happy hour pricing on the very extensive beer Los. I love it when Hoegaarten is on tap!

Seriously people, if you have not been to Loui Loui's before, now is the time! Truly amazing food. The food is so amazing, I don't even have a favorite. I get something different every time I come here! The staff is among the friendliest in the city of Louisville!

OMG Detroit pizza? What next Shepherdsville calzone? Okay, so growing up on NYC pizza has tarnished my ability to eat other pizza but while very tasty this pizza contained a mediocre dough and too much of their "proprietary" cheese. I felt like I was eating a slice of cheese and not pizza. What was worse was the dollop of sauce on top of the cheese. It appeared to be added after the pizza was cooked or rather "charred" as they promote. The "charring" created a crisp crust of cheese that could be enjoyable by some. Another damaging effect for me was the memory of Ferd Grisanti's that occupied the building for many years. Ferd, a lovely man from a lovely family, is sorely missed and so is his style of consistently good Italian fare. When will we let pizza be pizza? New York and Chicago is enough!

Really wasn't impressed with this place. Looks really nice inside but pizza was mediocre at best. Others in my party agreed. We drove really far out to try it too. Won't be back. It was very hyped. We did try the arancini which are fried rice balls with ham and cheese---those were worth ordering!

Great food, great atmosphere, great live entertainment great service, great prices! I had dinner with friends last night and we were able to sample a variety of the appetizer s and pizza and dessert. The meatballs were an excellent, the sauce reminded me of Sunday dinner back home in St Louis. The arrichini melted in your mouth. We loved the pizza the crispy crust enhanced the flavor of the toppings. Finally the dessert terimisu, cannoli and the cream puff we all agree were a perfect ending to a wonderful evening! This will be added to my list of go to restaurants.

On first appearance, it seems very nice inside...almost too nice for a pizza place. Really like the feel of the place, very inviting. Beer selection is much larger than expected, a nice surprise as I was expecting the usual suspects. Heard all good things about the arancini so of course we had to have them. One bite in and found the center to be cold. Waitress apologized and promptly offered a new order and took care of it on the bill. We really just wanted a fresh hot order, so getting an immediate comp was above and beyond expectations. Second order was a bit warmer at the center, but we just went with it. Waitress mentioned the order before that was burnt so maybe they were having cook/equipment issues. We ordered a 4 square of buffalo chicken ranch, the others at the table had the hotbrown pizza. Our impression of Detroit pizza, crust is too crisp to cust, so don't waste your time trying. Very very rich, savory, and filling. Everyone at the table had one square and took the rest home. Never had a pizza that was good and I only ate one piece. Flavor was really good, but maybe over the top atleast for everyone at our table. I thought the ranch was included in the pizza we got(buffalo chicken ranch?) but we got charged 50 cents for ranch as though we got a side of ranch. Anyway, overall it's pretty good pizza. Coming from a family that knows pizza it just wasn't my style. For me, crust makes or breaks and the sauce takes the pizza to the next level. The crust here is overpowered by toppings/sauces. Because of the way it's cooked you really can't appreciate the flavor of the crust, but that is due to the pizza style. Service was friendly, although communication between servers, cooks, and bar tender seemed a bit disorganized. I would try again on a busier night. Good news is although it appears to be expensive, almost $16 for 4 squares, if everyone only eats one square it ends up being reasonable.

Good atmosphere. While family frendly, I got the impression that Loui Louis's is probably better for adults. Very good pizza and appetizers. Prices are reasonable, but greater than take out places. Wait staff is average to above average. I recommend for the pizza and appetizers. Did not order the pasta dishes so I cannot rate those.

This place was great! Some friends recommended we go here while on a quick visit to the area. I had the "Kitchen Sink" pizza which was excellent. Although I didn't have any appetizers, they certainly looked and smelled great! Highly recommend!

I admit it, I've never had Detroit style pizza before but when I heard there was a new place to have Italian food and specifically pizza I was all in! My husband and I started with an order of "amazing cheese sticks" and we knew we were in for a nice meal when they arrived. Deliciously crispy, plump with fresh tasting cheese and served with marinara they lived up to their name. We ordered the 8 square "pound for pound" pizza and loved the crisp edges and soft center of the square slices. The sauce was served as the topping for the pizza which was a great way to let the filling be the centerpiece while keeping the great texture of the crust. This pizza reminded me of the type of pizza that I might serve at home if I had all day, and the talent to make it. The service was attentive, and when it appeared there might be a snafu on a timely delivery of our pizza the manager was quick to apologize and offer a free appetizer while we waited. Happily, this was not necessary, however this gesture made me feel that they were eager to give great customer service and for these reasons I am a fan!

An Ohio Buckeye singing the praises of Michigan pizza might be a bit of an anathema, but I welcome dropping in on this place when I visit Louisville. As the name promises, it is the real deal as far as Detroit (and parts of Northern Ohio) style pizza - crisp-yet-thick pastry crust, unique cheese and hearty toppings, burnt on the cheesy edges. I've visited Detroit plenty of times (to party, not to cheer) and this stuff is the sealed deal. Appetizers run along those found in the more old-school Italian pizza joints in the North - Arancini (addictive) and Bruschetta (fresh and tangy) being my favorites here. All appetizers are substantial enough to be shared, as are the large serving options of lasagna and spaghetti. Salad selection is more creative than most pizza joints, but we were there for the pie. Good selection of beers both imported and craft. One of our party was feeling hipster-cocktail-ish and she asked for a Sidecar. The bartender mixed one right up without having to fumble for a bar guide. Points! The interior decor is a bit upscale-ish, but the prices don't really reflect that - especially considering that we had plenty left over from the large portions to take home and use as hangover therapy the next morning. A manager stopped by to make sure we were happy and he also gave us the rundown of the place's history and their efforts to make it the "most authentic Detroit" as they can. Our server told us he was one of the owners. Seemed a little tall for a typical restaurant owner, but hey, in this economy, beggars can't be choosers. I've added this place to my Yelp Louisville bookmarks and will drop in on my next trip...

Great pizza, great appetizers! The first time I went to Loui Loui's was for a work dinner where we had the room in the back for our party. We had a selection of appetizers and pizzas which was great because it gave me the opportunity to try a variety of things. My favorites are the Arancini, Bruschetta, Great White Pizza and the Vegetarian. I've been back several times since then and have done both dine-in and take out and the food has been consistently excellent. The interior decor is very nice and lends itself to a nice evening out with friends or family. I haven't had a chance to go when they have live music but I'll certainly make it a point to do that since I have heard good things from friends about that experience.

Visited for lunch. Ordered the veggie pizza. Great ingredients, lots of flavor in the pizza sauce...I even asked for extra it was so good! Very similar to chicago style pizza but the crust is more crispy. Great service...we were his only table. Only complaint would be more ingredients/sauce on pizza. Would come back again.

Been here just the one time. Pizza is pretty good and its Detroit style but that's similar to deep dish. The problem I had with this place was the service. I went on a Sunday after noon and the lady who was our waiter kept calling us kiddos or other impolite names. Also she was not observant of the table, especially drinks, and kept trying to refill my drink with something other than what I ordered.

Found this cozy, tasty pizza place while on a journey to discover and sample all the local pizzerias in the Louisville area. Pizza was great (a little pricy but worth it). Ordered the eight slice sausage/pepperoni pie. Thick, buttery crust. Home made sausage, large pepperoni slices buried under delicious mozzeralla, and lip smacking warm marinara sauce. Next go around, would like try one of the Louis signature pies. Friendly, knowledgable, attentive service. Variety of menu items. Salads looked delicious. Pasta selections. Tasty appetizers. Desserts . An appetizing lunch menu (1130a-4p). And a fully stocked bar with the option (complete with a check list card) of bourbon selections you can sample. Would definitely recommend this pizzeria. Cheers!

Hey, the name says it all - Detroit style pizza. While in town on some 'business' we needed to tend to, we decided to grab a bite to eat. It was just me an a couple of da boys, Jake da Brake, and the Dillon. After a long day in the Lou, we needed something to remind us of the Motown - good old fashioned cookin' like Mama used to do in the 'D'. We parked out back just in case some of da local boys wanna tangle it up. We entered through the front and followed our waitress to the Ford room off to the left. Strohs is served here - they must have a hidden stash, 'cause you can't find it in the 'D'. We ordered separate pizzas only because Mama wasn't cookin tonight - for supper, she made one pizza for us boys, no special orders, and we always ate whatever she made. Good stuff! Hey, save us a table for next time we're in town on 'business'.

Have been to Louisville 2 years in a row for the Mid America Trucking Show, and have come to Loui Loui's both times. If you Love pizza and great service, this is the place to go! They also have some of the best cheese sticks I have ever had! The waitress we had this time was the same one we had last year, and is very nice, and very good at her job. This place is a must If your in the Louisville area. Their is a reason we keep coming back!

I've only tried this place once but don't think I'll be giving it another shot. I believe it has potential to impress like I see it has for others, I just can't really compare since my pizza was so undercooked. It was basically inedible. I'm not one to complain. I would just rather go to Old Chicago or Jets to get some deep dish pizza.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
