Every time I eat one of these I'm reminded about how awesome Louisville is that most stores I go into - from Heine Brothers to Wild and Woolly - I can buy a cookie that tastes even better than homemade from someone who makes them right down the street from my house. Politics aside, sometimes I think Louisville could secede from the state and even the country and operate completely independently with all of the local talent - and businesses already open and operating that showcase it. Kizito is one of those places. Sometimes slightly warm, but always chewy and moist like they just came out of the oven - so delicious! Fall faves are the snickerdoodle and pumpkin chocolate chip. $1 for each at the Kizito store is a steal for this giant piece of baked goodness. The shop has some neat gifts and practical kitchen items like handcrafted wooden spoons affordably priced around ten bucks depending on the size/purpose.

Love her, the cookies, and her story. A bunch of flavors and $1 apiece. The African stuff kinda creeped me out, but I will be back for a cookie fix. The white choc chip was the best so far.

Oh the day that I didn't know about these cookies was so much better for my hips! Ha. Seriously though, totally worth it. These cookies are so simple, yet I can't name a single place like it. They are pretty big, perfectly soft, and moist. Must try the pumpkin chocolate chip! And a dollar, including tax. Yup, I dare say the best cookie in town and it's only a buck. I always take guests here, not only for the yumminess, but also for the shopping. The woman is actually from Uganda and the earrings, wooden carvings, etc really remind me of all of the little handmade things for sale in the open air markets across South Africa. Unlike most specialty shops like this, it is all very reasonably priced. Just bought some wooden earrings for $5. Tips: buy 5, get one free It closes at 5, so go early! They do also sell the cookies at the Valu Market, but you lose the setting I can't stress enough that you must try the pumpkin chocolate chip!

Ubiquitous these days. I remember the early Kizito years when the quality seemed better. Still a damn fine chocolate chip cookie.

So fresh...so moist...so chewy...so yummy... Yeah, these are like the best cookies ever. I always a grab a couple when I'm in the area for the snack on my ride home to Cinci. The shop is pretty great too. I found the cutest little elephant there years ago that I treasure to this day. If you're nearby definitely don't miss a chance to check it out.

I love Kizito's! You can find Kizito cookies at restaurants and stores all over Louisville. They have been in operation since the early 90's. This is their bakery location where the baking is done everyday. It smells delicious in there! The store also sells African art and imports which are perfect when you are looking for a unique gift item. This might seem like a strange combination, but it is because the owner, Elizabeth Kizito, is originally from Uganda and she still has family there. They are best known for their fresh baked cookies, mufins, and brownies. The cookies come in 12, or more, different flavors, so there is something for everyone. I like the oatmeal raisin. I also love the nutty brownies. Best brownies ever!
