My coworker and I ate here last night. It seemed fresh and was certainly tasty (as most fried seafood is). Boom boom sauce was spicy, not just some kind of combo of ketchup and mayo. We both had the boom boom cod platter and joined the clean plate club. The wait staff was super attentive. Would definitely eat here again. Side note: Kingfish restaurant has this far passed my favorite test for seafood in the Midwest: did I get sick afterward? (Nope, I felt super and satisfied!) While people always say to be leery of seafood in the Midwest, this place challenges that assumption. Before you prematurely judge that last statement consider this: UPS operates its 5.2 million square foot Worldport airport package hub right here in Louisville. That means that your fish could have been been caught (and processed) within the last 24 hours. I might be insane. Ask me tomorrow if I'm sick, but this sure was tasty!

We thought that since it had been a year we would give kingfish another chance to see if they had made any improvement in the seafood quality since our last visit . Sadly, there was not. I again ordered the seafood platter. The whitefish was fair but, the shrimp and oysters were overcooked and not tasty. The clams were really overcooked, hard and the breading was even dark brown. The hush puppies however, were good as were the onion rings and mac & cheese. The seafood quality has not improved one bit in a year. This was my last visit. As a side note, our server was one of the best we've ever had anywhere.

Boom Boom Shrimp, Thai fish, etc. good eats, good portions, and a fair price. Nothing fancy, but for a good meal, and quick service this place is hard to beat.

Let me preface by saying, this is a review of the J-town location only. If my memory is correct, the River Road location is slightly better. Slightly. Was this a joke?! Easily the worst meal from a restaurant I've ever had in my life. This place is nothing but a low quality fast food joint pretending to be a nice restaurant. My husband and 10 year old cousin visited here one Friday evening. It's located in what looks to be an old Frisch's-type building, and the servers wore dirty, old diner-type uniforms... Read: not even a semi-upscale place. When we looked at the menu, we were surprised at the prices. With $20+ platters, you'd think we were at a halfway decent fish place. All three of us settled on a fish sandwich, which is $8 with no side. You can add fries and (a tiny amount of) cole slaw for $4. So, our sandwiches ended up being $12 since we all wanted fries. And keep in mind, this is the cheapest thing on the menu. The service was slow (that's the least of this place's problems), and after waiting longer than we should have, our food finally arrived. We were in shock and dismay at the portion of food we were presented. The piece of fish on everyone's sandwich didn't even meet the edges of the bread. The size was comparable to a deck of cards. I have never been in such disbelief when served a meal. Not only was the fish tiny, it didn't even taste good. It was obviously poor quality. I had the most extreme feeling of diner's remorse I've ever gotten. I couldn't believe I was paying $12 for this crap. I could have gotten better and more food at Moby Dick for a much lower price. We paid over $40 after tip and left hungry. We seriously went home and snacked on more food. I can't stress enough how small the fish is and how bad the quality is here. It is definitely not worth it and I would recommend not wasting your money here. Just to add, I don't at all mind spending a lot of money on good food. But the high prices and extremely low quality of food at this King Fish should be illegal. I will never return here, and keep my fried fish business with Moby Dick.

I loved this place! I ordered the Captain's Platter (not sure of name) and it came with a huge whitefish filet, catfish filet, breaded shrimp and scallops, cold shrimp with sauce and two sides. I opted for the salad and onion rings. My whitefish was the very best I ever had, hands down! Everything was delicious...but the onion rings, a bit heavy. My husband had a coupon for their Boom Boom shrimp for only $2.99 and he also had a chicken Caesar salad. Very pleased. Service was good. The waitress came by our table several times to make sure we were pleased. Owner/manager also helped deliver the food. Would have loved some corn bread ~ I think the table next to ours got some, gratis, but not sure. Will return if in the area!

I went into Kingfish off Blankenbaker to get some scallops but they would not serve me without ordering the dinner. I was not that hungry so I left and went across the street to Ruby Tuesdays to spend my money and they took it. Not surprised now to see only two other customers in your store. I was a big Kingfish fan but I will never go back to this location - I have had issues at this location before. Go across the river or to the River Rd location.

It's been awhile since I've been to a Kingfish restaurant and now I remember why. The server was extremely peppy and attentive but the fish was not very good at all. I ordered a scrod sandwich and what was served to me was not scrod at all. It was 4 small thin pieces of whitefish or perch on rye bread. I know scrod and this was not scrod. Scrod is thick and flaky, What was served to me was thin, dry, mostly coating and not flaky at all. Very dull and tasteless. My companion ordered the clams and they too were dry and rubbery, although they were clams. I guess it's hard to pass something else off as clams. Do yourself a favor. If you wan good fish...don't dine at Kingfish.

This food was really not good at all. Almost everything on the menu is fried and greasy. THis may mask the fact that it doesn't have any flavor. I thought it was pretty pricey for below average food. I would not recommend this place.

Wife and I had lunch there yesterday. Simple fish & chips. Fish was dry and over cooked. Fries were undercooked and dripping with grease. Total bill was about $26 for this and a couple of soft drinks. Hush puppies were OK, but large and not near as good as the ones Kingfish had several years ago. Staff was pleasant and attentive but food and value for the money will prevent me from ever returning.

I was VERY disappointed by this place. I went with my family and although the waiter was very nice and friendly, he complained the entire time! That is excusable. What's inexcusable is that the 'grilled' shrimp I had wasn't grilled at all! It was boiled, tasteless and rubbery! Not everything was terrible, the bang bang shrimp was really good and the fried whitefish my husband and daughter got was tasty. But the 'grilled' and baked seafood that I got (a combo plate) was mostly terrible. The shrimp, as I said, was almost inedible and the scallops weren't much better. The grilled fish was was well cooked but mostly tasteless. To top it off the price was ridiculous for what we got. I will NOT be going back here again.

My family and I went for the first time, today. Our server was great, the Boom Boom Shrimp were great, the crablegs were great, the Blackened Chicken Caeser Salad was ok. The problem was with the Crab Seafood Salad. It was horrible. I don't think it's asking too much for a crab salad from a seafood restaurant to be served with real crab meat. The description says "Light and tasty crab seafood pieces, celery bits, green onion and a special dressing served on a bed of lettuce." I guess "crab seafood" is code for imitation crab; and the celery bits... were more like big chunks. If they can't afford to use real crab meat, I think they should take it off the menu. Part of me wants to go back, but I'm afraid of what else on the menu might be imitation.

What a nice surprise. Don't be scared off by all the fried food.Had the grilled tuna sandwich. It was a nice tuna steak. The salmon on the caesar salad was good. Order the dressing on the side for the salad. Buffalo fries were a good start. They have drink and lunch specials. Enjoy.
